I love the Mad Max movies and the wasteland atmosphere they create, so I naturally had high hopes for this game. It was disappointing how quickly the excitement wore off. The missions and activities get repetitive in no time, a real sense of progression is missing, and the combat is a poor copy of the Batman: Arkham system; it is simply unresponsive and clunky. I really wanted to love this game, but I just lost interest after around 15 hours. Wasted potential. Expand

This has to be one of the most under-rated games of all time, mad by the masters of huge open world games Avalanche studios Mad Max. Not following any of the movies, but taking a little from each film and making an original game is what the developers have done. There is fighting (like the batman games and driving like the grand theft auto games) The landscape is barren and beautiful including storms that are truly epic. The cars are accurate to the films and it is Maxes goal to reacquire his stolen interceptor. To do this he has to build an even more sinister car and defeat many gangs throughout the game. The missions can be repetitive, however it becomes addictive just to upgrade your car so you bear with it and keep playing. The story is average and could have been so much more, with the ending being very jarring. It is sad that the game was not more of a success as they would have made a sequel for sure. I don't have much to complain about this game, if anything I would say that there are many other vehicles, but they was never really a reason to use them as the one you are building is so much better. I would have loved to see more missions with other vehicles and perhaps missions where your dog goes with you.

I feel this game will be a cult hit in the future and hope the devs revisit it again. Just need to utilize more of the map by including fleshed out missions and they would have had a winner perhaps a AAA game.

    MILD SPOILER BELOW
The one negative thing about the game is that at a few key places you’re forced to act in a way that’s pretty inconsistent with 95% of the way you played up until then. That felt kind of terrible and to happen at the end when you’ve invested so much was kind of really sucky. The ability to choose and then a little bit of time invested in two endings would have felt quite a bit more fair.

Hra je za mě překvapením roku. Perfektní vizual, se zabavnou hratelností dělá z Mad Maxe jednu z nejlepších Open World PostApo her. Super jízdní model vozidel, a jejich destrukce s výbuchy jsou vážně impozantní. Avalanche studios se vážně předvedli, a ukazali že to umí, pokud mají dostatek peněz a času na hru.

Don't really understand the mixed reviews of this - this game was immensely fun and the attention to detail of George Miller's world is just outstanding! It's visceral, brutal and the driving mechanics are brilliant! Some of it can be rough around the edges and the story isn't all interesting but the amount of technical heart that has gone into this makes it worth a recommendation.

I ranked this game 10 because I think this title deserves more credit. It has a good open world atmosphere. You can see a devastating sand storm coming your way and then you have to run for your life and take shelter. It has a very nice graphics, fair story, nice combat system, and very fun car combat.

Mad Max is an open world third person shooter game based on the movie series. There's a lot of sand, and cars that want to explode. And there's a guy named Max in it.

The Map might even be too huge. It does get the feeling of a desolate world across, but with little variation of what you will actually do in the world it feels like too much of the same. The combat gets very repetitive, and even the bosses are almost exact copies of each other. The only thing that changes is the actually location and hideout.

So it's about shooting, fighting, racing and carnage. And there's a story! Not a particularly interesting one, but there is one. Some missions do immerse you, and others feel like ordinary fetch quests.

    All in all it's a good game. I give it a 7/10.

Car combat and not much else. Actually, there is a lot more, and all of it the worst of modern game tropes. If this game was just car combat it would be a 10/10. Hasn't anyone played Interstate '76? Am I so old that game developers are too young to be aware of classic games that influenced me?

Let's get the good stuff out of the way. The car combat is well done. I can't say it is spectacular mostly because it depends on a lot of upgrades that you have to spend hours grinding. So far I'm not interested in that grind and keep picking fights I can barely win. Still, with what I have the combat is fun. In addition to the stand front end collision, you can send enemy cars veering into obstacles. In a fun addition, a grapple hook lets you target parts of the car or the driver. An open world demolition derby would have been a great game and Warner Bros. should have focused on that.

Now that the good is over, let's get to the bad. This game is every open world base take down trope that has hindered almost every game this generation. Instead of climbing towers to fill in your map, you go up in balloons even though the Mad Max films didn't have balloons every square mile and the idea is stupid. You also get an annoying companion to serve as your tutorial help, narrator, mission giver. This game would be so much better if it embraced the notion of Mad Max as a loner. Then there are the cookie-cutter bases that have infected open world games. I get it, development is costly. Instead of hand making areas for players to visit, it's easier to make a library of assets that the designer can then cut and paste into the game world. All of it is boring and immersion killing. On top of all that, Mad Max has the Batman style fighting copied and pasted from Warner Bros.'s Arkham games. You never get a good Mad Max feeling of fighting. Oddly, the game has no stealth options when sneaking around enemy positions is something Mad Max does well in the films. Even the excellent car combat is inhibited by thedumb A.I. In one car fight, I kept going in for a few hits and driving out of their A.I.'s patrol zone.

Maybe this kind of generic open world game was less generic in 2015. I don't think so. I remember playing Far Cry 4 and feeling the same way about it as I do about Mad Max and Far Cry 4 was a much better game in general. The problem is that Warner Bros. took safe bets with Mad Max. Safe bets are what you make when you don't want to lose. When you want to win, you take risks.

Full Disclosure: Mad Max was a PS+ "free" game so I felt no obligation to "get my money's worth".

    Recomendado.

the controls are another pain in the ass. i guess you can change some keys there, but i didnt even try, cus i like to play in whatever settings the game gives me, but it was another fight i had to endure.
no to talk about some good (almost) things: the idea of forts, and helping them grow is really cool. BUT, they made it kind of repetitive, lazy work. while playing i coldnt stop thinking about how much a wanted to be a beta tester for this game. i finished the game frustrated, hoping to free my hard drive from that ****ty game, but actually i left it there for a little longer, just so i can go around the maps for a while, without any pressure. (thank god for the fast travel buttom, so i dont even need to ice skate in the sand that much
oh, almost forgot, the story is kinda cool, even tho they created the most hateful dumb pre-adolescent Max of all times. you'll hate him for every choice he makes, and you just have to go along hating him (yourself)

while playing i was thinking about giving it a 5 stars grade, or even lower, but giving the good parts as scenarios, and diversity of cars, and the beaty of it, etc, AND, the most important part: PSN just gave me the game for free, i'm ok ith 6

There are balloons to elevate in order to reveal portions of the map, camps to take down so as to reduce the enemy presence in an area, and tons of places to loot for scrap (the game's currency).

But here lies the problem, the scrap economy is broken. If you just want to complete the main quests and avoid the side content, you can't do that because story missions are locked behind requirements that need to be met, and you need scrap to proceed. So much scrap, indeed. The rate by which you gain scrap is much slower than you need in order to upgrade Max and his car, so you have to grind a lot if you want to progress (it helps if you take enemy camps down, you get free scrap every 20 minutes or so). If the story progress wasn't locked down this way, you could finish the main missions in a few hours, but whatever story there is, it's forgettable and meh. In terms of open world games standards, Mad Max's content is below average, and inflated with so much repetitive side content (it's not even side QUESTS, as you just have to shoot down snipers, clear minefields, or destroy scarecrows out in the desert).

At least the core gameplay is a bit of fun. The melee combat system is clearly inspired by the Batman Arkham games but lacks their fluidity and rhythm. The vehicular combat is another focus of the game, driving a car is nice but it's frustrating when you are confronting 2 or more enemy vehicles at the same time. Resources in the Wasteland are scarce, so you have to manage the water you drink, the fuel your car burns, and your ammo, but these will never create a serious problem.

The best part of the game is the atmosphere. The artists captured the feeling of the Wasteland and its crazed inhabitants, the post-apocalyptic world and the accompanying madness are shown in all their decadent glory. There is also a bizarrely funny AI partner in the form of Chumbucket, a deformed mechanic who repairs the car and issues some missions for Max.

All in all, Mad Max is a game that can only be played when you have nothing else or better to play. If you like the Mad Max movies you'll probably appreciate this game a bit more, but trust me you are better off watching the movies instead. Or play some other fantastic game, there are plenty of those on the market.

Its gameplay mainly revolves around melee combat (with a fighting system inspired by Rocksteady's Batman games) and car battles.

Unfortunately, the game is boring and extremely repetitive. The main story is very short (spanning over only a couple of hours) and not very interesting, and once you're done with it (and the side quests known as "Wasteland Missions"), there's not much left to do, except mindlessly looting the 200+ scavenging locations scattered around the map and clearing the various enemy camps to gain control of them.

This game loop is similar to what you can find in Just Cause, but here it's way worse. In spite of the repetitivity, JC3 was still fun to play, with the dozens of possibilities offered by the Grappling Hook, the vehicles, the weapons, etc. Mad Max, on the other hand, lacks that variety and that fun. The fighting system, while decent, quickly gets old as you're always fighting the same enemies throughout the whole game. Even the "Top Dogs" (sorts of mini-bosses) are all the same and not even threatening. Besides, the car battle system is boring and you'll be glad to get the Thunderpoon weapon (that allows you to easily destroy enemy vehicles) to avoid those combats entirely.

The atmosphere and imagery of the game are good and well done, but once again, things are very repetitive. Most of the world map looks the same, with a lot of sand, a couple of mountains and not much else. Of course, it's a good rendition of the Mad Max universe, but more variety would have been nice.

To sum things up, this Mad Max game is not a horrible game, but it's certainly not a good game either, and I would not recommend it : it's just an extremely repetitive open world game that becomes boring after just a few hours.

It also doesn't help that the control scheme was designed by someone whose last console experience was on the N64, the UI is confusing and doesn't tell you how to do anything, and the open world is one single color and has absolutely nothing interesting in it. Just painfully boring and its only saving grace is that I didn't have to spend any money on it because it was free for PS+. Expand

The best part about this game was the open world, it feels authentic and lived in, i loved driving around, even the smallest camps has diverse and interesting set ups. The hand to hand combat was simple and addicting (Same with car). Driving was very fluid. Now the story brought this game down a lot, without spoiling anything it felt lazy and uninspired, which was a shame. The repetetive nature will also kick in at some point, luckily for me it didn't happen until probably the 20 hour mark. To, end it felt like Ubisoft decicded to make Rage 2, and it's really good. Pros: masterpiece of an open world, addicting gameplay. So-So= can get repetitive for some very quick, overly simple combat mechanics. The cons= non existant story Expand

This game, THIS game is like Fallout on STEROIDS. I love the post-apocalypse world, the landscape, skybox, is SOOOO beautiful and majestic. Just driving around doing missions/tasks is therapeutic. Avalanche has created a magnificent world in Mad Max. Astounding graphics! And i dont generally like driving in games but boy oh boy am I having a blast speeding across the sand dunes.

Oh and the combat. My God is it addictive! I can feel the weight behind every meaty punch, dropkick and bodyslam that Max rains down on his enemies. It feels completely superior to Arkham Knight's floaty and easy combat. In Mad Max, momentum and direction matters if you want to pull off perfect combos. Seriously, to me, the combat never gets old and I in fact always look forward to the next combat sequence. It's THAT good!!

Car combat is absolutely fun! It reminds me of Twisted Metal/Road Rash/Carmageddon. Like the fist combat, car combat never gets old. Every time it feels like Destruction Derby. Friggin awesome!

The story is also interesting so far though at the time of this review, I have not finished the game. Im maybe 25-30% done but i just felt compelled to write one right away as the game is sooo good! I played like 10hrs, fell in love with the game, had the itch to rewatch Mad Max Fury Road, did that and it made the game feel even more ALIVE! As if Max came from the end of the movie right into the game as some sort of continuation. I'll be updating this review once Im done with the game but after 20+ hrs and still at the first base, I can safely say Mad Max will blow my expectations away.

Hoping for a Mad Max 2. Well done Avalanche! Although, funny enough, I hated the Just Cause series.

Good game. It's a shame, there won't be the second one because the gameplay is strong and visuals, while not technically ideal, are artfully and immersive. We would only need a bit better story and a little more complication in fighting and looting (f*cking scraps...). Kudos to people who had developed it. You were just unlucky with unfair reviews.

Basically, you never feel like you have done the same thing twice, except you have done it a hundred times but differently.

This is the beauty of this game, and what makes it so enjoyable.

The combat system is also great, but requires some getting used to. While it is a rhythm-based combat system akin to Batman games, there are clear tactics for each enemy horde on how to beat them clean, or get beaten up. Every fight also feels a bit different from the next one, even if there are only a handful of different enemies.

Driving is marvelous, and extremely responsive. Weaponry on the cars is highly enjoyable to use as well.

    Lastly, it is Mad Max.

It really is difficult to find anything negative to say about this game, except that I want more of it.

After a while too the checklists of things to do in areas can become pretty repetitive and with some temperamental camera issues and frame rate issues can make you want to turn off. I’ve been playing videogames for more than 25 years, since I was a kid and I must say this game surprised me in a few ways, it’s been a nice surprise.

So this is a sandbox kind of game, the setting is obviously the mad max world. Bad things first, I must say I was surprised with a lot of reviews both from fans and professionals complaining about the game being repetitive. Let’s be honest, most sandboxes are quite repetitive in the side quest/additional stuff to do, only very few do something that’s completely different, this is for example the witcher 3 or Fallout 4, where even the sidequest feel very unique. So, I’m quite surprised a lot of people gave this game a hard time for being repetitive but didn’t complain about this for example in Metal Gear Solid V or Mirror’s Edge 2. Anyway, yes the game has quite a few repetitive aspects in the side quest/collective aspect, but in my humble opinion the gameplay is so funny that it didn’t feel like a pain (speak about this a bit more later), but yes the non “main story” content is a bit repetitive and maybe they could have added a bit more variety for certain stuff. Other than that I think this is the only real negative point of the game.

Good stuff? Pretty much everything else. Graphically speaking I think the game is superb for a sandbox. I was particularly amazed by how well made the wasteland is done, it is beautiful to see (as beautiful as a wasteland can be) and massive with views that will let you wow. Also, I must say they made a great job at making the wasteland feel not repetitive, considering is a wasteland I think is hard, but you have more kind of rocky regions, sandy desert ones, mountain-ish, landfill etc. The wasteland feels varied and not boring at all. More good stuff, the gameplay is superb and for me is the main positive aspect of this game. Some people say it’s too simple, I say it’s simple but it is good because within its simplicity you have quite a few options, a responsive control etc. Being a bit more detailed, on foot the gameplay feels a bit like the Batman Arkham series maybe a bit simplified with not a lot of combos etc, but still a decent number of moves and the battle feeling is so wild that I don’t think it spoils the fun. The driving is also great with some mechanics I haven’t seen in any other games. Some people complain the car driving is awful, I think that’s unfair. At the beginning of the game you have a **** car and you’re driving over sand, gravel and dirt roads, it is true that at the beginning is kind of easy to lose control of the car, but I think it’s part of the gameplay. I don’t think driving a car with homemade **** tyres over sand etc. has to be easy, on the contrary. If you stick to roads the car drives a lot better compared to just land, I think it makes sense. Also the driving is a lot better when you start upgrading the tyres (with chains, spikes etc.), which again I think it makes sense. Anyway, the driving is good, I think you just need to be sensible and a bit patient as in getting used to it and improve the car; I mean improving the car is a big big part of the main story, so it makes sense to me that they made it feel like it actually matters. The battle mechanics on the car feel great and wild again, it is high adrenaline stuff with you being able to hit cars directly with massive bumpers with spikes, spikes on the side, shacking off guys that jump onto your car, sniping, using the shotgun, using explosive spears and, my favourite, using the hook for a variety of things from destroying other cars (as in taking off a door to be able to shoot enemy drivers), dragging down sniper towers or doors to hook enemies directly and drag their bodies through the mud. It is simple, but you have a decent amount of choice and it feels funny, simple and direct but very funny and satisfying, it is really really fun to play.

Story wise, I think the game was all right it is not a superb story but it is good and it has good moments, it isn’t worse than, for example, the Road Fury movie story. Finally, in terms of duration, it isn’t super long but it feels right, around 20 h the main story + another 20 to 40 hours if you do secondary stuff and a huge map to explore.

Summarising, if you’re looking for a sandbox with an action packed gameplay full of adrenaline and fun, I think you should give it a try, most likely you’re going to enjoy this game a lot. Otherwise, better spend your money elsewhere.

With all the customization, great physics and weapon arsenal you get finally a great car combat games that comes to mind in the recent memory. Even though the locations often have the same muddy colors, they are still memorable and have their own identity. One of the most fun mode I played in a while is crushing convoys, especially when you're car is not fully upgraded. And when you take out the main car with the artifact it's damn satisfying, especially seeing the explosions. The main story is straight forward with some great cut scenes. And the last act with Scrotus'es convoy as final boss is something I will remember for a while.

I don't know how big budget had Avalanche Studios for development of this game, but some details feel a bit sloppy. In the game you have to meet a lot of random NPC's, they'll say a few sentences and then either you continue your journey or you two start digging for no damn reason. All the top dogs have slight changes of color and weapon texture, but act exactly the same. Most of the time you defeat those top dogs near a wall and most of the time you see the same animation of max beating the defeated top dog through the wall texture. Some of the collectibles feel very unnecessary, for example relic with personal pictures. Mostly they seem like private pictures of developers. Something else I would like to mentions is appearance of some characters that after the final are not supposed to be in some strongholds. Some might blame it on the game budget, but some minor details are likely just a lazy work by some developers.

The worst part for me in the game was the fighting system. They were approaching the flow system of the Arkham series, but it felt clunky and more often frustrating, as a result. When the counterattack button appears on the screen I felt like it show too little too late. Some times NPC would attack max in the middle of a fight scene, other times they wait til he finishes off the defeated NPC.

It might sound like a mixed bag, but for the money right now it's a cheap grab. The cons I mentioned are so significant for the overall of the game. I strongly suggest to try it out, especially if you're into car combat games.

Driving and car combat are big parts of the game, and (arguably) the most fun you'll have here. Cruising around the desert in your custom

war machine is a blast, as well as all the trouble you're likely to get into just by doing so. Enemy car patrols and convoys are fairly

frequent, and there are plenty of options to deal damage. This keeps the desire to keep upgrading the car a high priority.

Once the larger game world opens up (about an hour in), the real fun begins. Casually driving around and causing chaos, completing the

main missions, and messing around with custom car configurations are all dumb, loud fun. The game got really bogged down, however, when I

tried to take it too seriously and complete 100% of everything.

Trying to knock off every point-of-interest on the map screen reveals an ingrained repetitiveness to the tasks that leads to joy-numbing

boredom. Using the dog to sniff out land mines is fun one time, but not thirty times. The same goes for scavenging locations, road races,

and even the base camps. There just aren't that many different things to do here. Batman this is not.

Speaking of Batman, Mad Max (like Shadow of Mordor) basically rips the dark knight's free-flow combat system right off. Way to cut those

corners, WB. The game tries to custom-tailor the fighting to Max by making him more of a brawler. This amounts to having only one actual

move you can do over and over (surprise - it's a punch in the face!) and making Max slow and clunky. There's no way to interrupt your own

move to counter an incoming punch from the guy behind you (a problem Rocksteady fixed years ago), so timing is really key. To spice things

up with some originality, Max also gets a move to avoid incoming attacks. Can you guess what it is? Yeah, it's a freakin' somersault. To

be fair, rolling out of the way of incoming hit-and-runs while Chumbucket fixes your car never gets old.

Ah, Chumbucket. Apparently the one thing missing from the Mad Max universe was a comedy sidekick who's not only completely unfunny, but

also who's annoyance factor is of a Jar Jar Binks-level intensity. The developers also decided to have him follow you EVERYWHERE YOU GO

and comment on EVERY SINGLE THING THAT HAPPENS IN THE GAME. There's no way to drive off without him or turn off his audio. He sounds like

a mentally-handicapped anxiety-case was force-fed caffeine pills and possibly some hallucinogens. Colorful characters are great in small

    doses, but not like this.

The car physics feel perfect for smashing or just driving around. It's when racing is involved that things get sticky. If the car even

grazes the edge of the race track or a rock, it's likely to go airborne and land facing the wrong direction. Thanks, havoc engine. Even

in the open desert, the handling is a problem with tight cornering. It's way too easy to have the whole car spin out of control. You

can't combine the crazy physics of GTA with the picky precision of Forza and expect people to not free-flow their fist through the TV

screen. Number 2 seems to be the magic number with video games. Here's hoping they can work out the kinks and deliver a 9/10 sequel in a few years. The Good: - Car combat is really satisfying. - Building custom cars rarely gets old. - Breaking someone's jaw feels great. - Feels like Mad Max. The Bad: - Chumbucket. - Max is too slow needs more moves. - Need to be able to counter an attack at any time. - No way to save custom car configurations. - Archangels don't line up with when upgrades are available. - Almost impossible to build a car that's not ugly (but it IS Mad Max, so...) - Mini bosses need to not all be THE EXACT SAME OPPONENT COPIED AND PASTED FIVE TIMES WITH DIFFERENT-COLORED ARMOR. - Max needs to be able to fix up his own damn car. The road warrior doesn't know how to use a wrench? - Not being able to drive The Interceptor until the end. Let us have some fun before you take it away. - No way to easily locate the car bodies. - No clear reward for adding to the stockpiles. - Endless desert. How about more than one biome? It's Australia, not Vault 101. - Drifting? Things I wish I knew sooner: - The rolling actually helps a lot. - You don't the yellow winch to kill a war crier. You can actually just shoot them. - Don't bother trying to eliminate all threats in an area unless you need to unlock something. - The quicker you get to Gastown, the quicker you can upgrade Chumbucket's wrench. - The big dust storms blow crates across the desert full of HUGE amounts of scrap. - There are game-breaking bugs that can pop up if you leave a camp in the middle. - Upgrade the harpoon. Ripping a wheel off a car is a one-shot kill.

The beginning of the story is a little weak and the game has to make use of some goofy time-killing mechanisms like forcing you to do side missions to unlock main missions but the final hours are exciting and emotional.

There are some other iffy features: getting hit by a car doesn't seem to hurt you very much, there are random "storms" that occur and the only way to have them not kill you is to drive or fast travel to a base which just sort of interrupts gameplay and the game tempts you with encounters which give you "intel" on how to take down a base but they don't actually help at all or seem to matter one way or another. There's no shortage of things to do in the game though, and the environment, though bleak, seems authentic and enthralling.

Racing and vehicle combat are excellent and very well incorporated. Though sometimes irritatingly difficult and buggy, this is strictly confined to the upper-level optional tasks and do not impede the story.

The characters are rich and varied, enemies are often disturbing and loathsome; Max himself gives a believable performance as a tortured soul who still seems to care a little about his dying world.

Probably the most unfairly panned game of 2015; based on that the price is way down so you should almost certainly give it a try.

Tedious, bug ridden and not remotely fun to play, its time for Avalance to admit that they just don't have what it takes to code 8th gen games and refocus on marketing their quite competent game engine to companies who understand gaming thats fun.

Open world game, map is pretty big. Game level pretty high. Besides racing, it included on foot battle as well. Invested time on finding loots to upgrade gears. Combat style is similar to batman arklum series, which i think there is more room for improvements.

Surprisingly good, I'm very glad I bought this despite the mixed reviews. Feels like a bit of a grind sometimes, and has some annoying moments, but still made me fall in love the wasteland, and I enjoyed the ride with Max all the way.

The game starts good, interesting story, world and characters, then it becomes boring, repetitive and the story turns a bit cliche.

Graphicaly good but nothing above the average, the combat lacks of variety and the car customization ends in a gathering scrap to upgrade it. There are too many collectibles and interest points, just to gather scrap and spend more time playing without

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was a bit of a mixed bag that came out on the positive side in the end. It did some things really well. The atmosphere was fantastic, really captured the feel of the motorized wasteland you find in Mad Max and it was impressively large to boot so you could buzz around at some fun speeds. The hand-to-hand combat was loads of fun as well and you felt probably more competent than Max was supposed to be. First time you suplex some poor dumb bastard is cackle inducing satisfaction. The third leg of the stool of enjoyment were some little touches I found charming like the warcriers (when you left them alive) and the admirable variety they managed to put into the scavenging locations and camps.

Despite being an overall enjoyable experience, the game did have some glaring issues to my eye. Starting at the top, the story never made much sense to me. I understood what was happening through it but it was the motivation that never quite rang my bell. I'm punching my way through dozens of goons and smashing my way through lots of vehicles so I can acquire a bigger engine that I need for what? After the Jaw I could have just driven off to these Plains of Silence. Felt a little silly. The upgrade systems need some SERIOUS overhauling. I maxed out Max within the first third of the game and I bought upgrades for the Magnum Opus that were superior to ones I had to unlock through later quests rendering those pointless beyond the experience. The loot itself was really poorly done as well. What I hoped to have was finding new guns (or upgrades at least) and items and parts for my car but all you find is scrap which you use like a money system to upgrade said items. The scrap wasn't bad I guess but it certainly wasn't exciting. No "what am I going to find in THIS chest" sort of excitement. There were also a slew of smaller disappointments like the same graphic used on all the top dogs or the lack of need for food or water, but I'm gonna jump to my biggest complaint. The car combat in the later parts of this game was torturous to me. At first it was satisfying and fun and visceral in it's effect, but by the end of the game with my car as upgraded as it could be everything I encountered had so much armor that I didn't feel like I was doing any damage. I wanted to feel in the Magnum Opus like I felt as Max but instead I was Robin rather than Batman. It's not that I don't enjoy a good challenge, I love me some Dark Souls, but when you find yourself trying to deal with multiple opponents that feel superior to you with every random encounter it begins to suck the fun out of it. I ended up just trying to run from every fight and even that was frustrating. Who knows though, I might just suck at it Either way it left me woefully disappointed.

The story is as bare bones as it gets, but it doesn't matter. There is so much to do between missions, it can get a bit overwhelming, they do get a bit repetitive but they're so damned fun. Max is a bit of a completionist's nightmare because of all the collectables and all the side quests, but again, I'm having so much fun with it I just don't care.
Sure the AI sucks, enemies just rush you, or stand back and wait while you deal with their friends, the vehicle combat is fantastic with various ways to dispatch your opponents. The character upgrade system and vehicle building work perfectly and are suited to this type of game.
I feel that this game really should be a 9, because of how its really just a glorified, violent fetch quest, but its pulled off perfectly.
That and the fact that there is no redundant DLC or tacked on Multiplayer I'm going to give it top marks!

In Mad Max is a great atmosphere that feels just like from the movie and you can feel like a survivor in an apocalyptic world where we must searching and saving resources, but there is also many negatives aspects like very repetitive quests and missions or exploration of camps was monotone. For me playing in Mad Max was hard and i have mixed opinion about it.

What I enjoyed the most about this game, is how well developers have put on the effort to recreate and build on the Mad Max scenario and lore. Take a couple of minutes and Look around, the wind blowing, the vastness of the desert, the jerks and perks of the characters. Notice how Just everything went mad. There is cannibalism, people eating worms, a godlike culture of endless warfare and the struggle of all against all. When you find the relics, put the pieces together and notice how much they built on the original movies, adding more to the lore. And also, there are the missions and combat. It is repetitive to a point, yet no mission is the same, scenario wise. The learning curve is great because If you want the game to be easier, do all the side missions first; you will get better equipment and upgrades and the game will flow. If you want a challenge, focus on the main mission and you will find yourself constantly dying due to a beating, hacked by an axe, due to hunger or thirst, or run over by a car driven by hostiles. Finally, combat options are many, since the player may fight while on foot or while driving, using punches, guns, harpoons, flamethrowers, among others. If you like Mad Max, and is willing to explore more of its characters and lore, I recommend this game.

I think many are turned off by the storytelling, and that makes them look for other flaws. Truth is, at first there is no noble motivation to do what you're doing. But that's who Mad Max is. And as you may guess, it does get better. There is a tough race where many get stuck. If you manage to go past it then there will be a lot more fun waiting for you.

For me, the biggest motivation to keep playing was unlocking car parts. Car customization is a huge part of the game, in my opinion the most fun part. Like I said, if you've seen Fury Road, you'll kow what to expect.

It may not be for everybody. Do a bit of research. It does have the potential to be one of the best in your collection depending on your taste.

It´s a O.K game, technically on consoles sometimes struggles, story wise, very short and uninspired. Final Boss Fight is Horrible. I litterally had more fun looting, finding scrap and invading campaments. My score is based on secondary missions if i had to give a score to the main story it would be a 5/10. My biggest problem with the game however is variety, as there are a lot of rinse and repeat things such as tearing down scarecrows, scavenging locations, or the worst of them all, minefields, if you choose to take them out to complete everything. I am about halfway through the game now and it has become quite a chore and would be nice if some different activities were brought up as a change of pace.

The game comes hot on the heels of Mad Max Fury Road, the astonishingly good, award-winning film starring Tom Hardy. You play as Max, the bearded wastelander we have all come to know and love. He is on a mission to reclaim both his car and glory from villain Scrotus in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, with the help of his trusty friend and mechanic, Chumbucket. Don't expect much on the storyline front. It's simply not all that enthralling. We've all seen it before. Even the characters aren't very memorable or unique. This adventure is all about gameplay. It's all about checking the boxes, upgrading your weapons, car and equipment, that sort of thing. This approach actually works really well here. That's the sticking
point. You never run out of things to do, whether it's conquering a new boss, clearing out some underground mines, defeating a convoy or doing errands for leaders in various territories. Some of it can get repetitive, but the constant feeling of improvement and accomplishment make it worthwhile. Upgrading various components at each stronghold proves to be very helpful. By doing so, you will gain access to free water, free fuel and improved weapons and accessories. As far as weapons go, Max has only a few toys in his arsenal. These include the shotgun, harpoon, thunderpoon, sniper rifle and a couple others. It is the wasteland after all. It is also noteworthy that ammo is very hard to come by.

The combat system is reminiscent of the Arkham series. It doesn't copy it though, it has its own unique style. The exceptional fighting animations make it satisfying to kick your foe's tail. It is always a pleasure to run into some baddies while driving across the desert, because fighting is so fun. It never feels like a chore or drag. I like how you can finish someone off with a shiv too, Tomb Raider style. When Max gains enough momentum, he can enter Fury Mode. That's when combat gets even more awesome. You essentially tun into a beast who can do wrestling moves on enemies, deal double damage and string together more combos. It's pretty amazing. I did come across some control issues where I would hit the correct counter button but Max wouldn't counter. These moments were few and far between though. The real fun in the game is simply scavenging. Looting every camp, nook and cranny is immensely satisfying, primarily because you know upgrades will soon follow. It never got old defeating enemies in each camp, looting everything in the area then darting off to the next location. It's all about checking those boxes and it's a ton of fun. One other gameplay element to note is racing. You can compete in races and challenge other players' best times. It's a cool diversion, but it doesn't stand out as anything great. Visually, the game is beautiful. It's the best-looking desert in any game to date, that's for sure. The character models, vehicles and locations all shine with color and detail. In the audio department, I wish there was more music. It's almost nonexistent. You'll mainly hear the grumbling of your car's exhaust, which can grow annoying after so many hours.

Mad Max is not without its issues. As I previously stated, the story isn't going to pull you in and the characters aren't anything special. One thing that does contribute to the story are things you collect called history relics. These are remnants left behind from the world you once knew and loved. The surrealism behind how different the world was and is now is what gets Max (and the player) emotional. It's quite jarring and adds a lot to the experience as a whole. The combat system is great, but at times it feels like you've done it somewhere before (because you have). The wasteland is divisive because many gamers see emptiness, while others see that as simply the style of the game. I noticed a few bugs, most notably, vehicles randomly disappearing and Max's car is sometimes without sound. These are minor technical issues but they need to be cleaned up. Mad Max seems to be a divisive game overall among gamers. Personally, I had a great time with it. That's saying something, especially considering the fact that I like plot-driven games. The main story along with occasional side quests will take around 35 hours to complete, which is a hefty amount of gameplay, offering a big bang for your buck. Ignore the negative noise and give Mad Max a shot. It may falter in some areas and become repetitive over time, but it's fun and has high replay value. (7/10)

The hand-to-hand combat resembles that of the Batman Arkham games, however it feels heavier and dirtier - just the kind of combat the wasteland would demand. There are also survival elements in the game (such as the need for food, ammunition, and water) that add an extra layer of depth, and give incentive to upgrade bases. Much like Fury Road, if you're in this for the story you're in it for the wrong reasons. It's one downfall in my eyes are the atrocious attempts at Australian accents. Mad Max is a gem of a game with a few rough patches. Visually its one of the best looking games on the new generation of hardware. Its fun and exciting to play. Story: 7/10 not really why you are playing a Mad Max game not bad but not the best however there are far worse stories out there.

Overall 8/10 a good solid game and about time a Max Max game was made.

Mad max the game is a fun but fastly repetetive open world action game.
Is this the open world game the movie deserves ?
In my opinion it couldve been done better than this, the game wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I had low expectations of the game because usually ''movie games'' don't do so well. After pretty much finishing the game (I'm trying to get it on a 100% fairly close

After pretty much finishing the game (I'm trying to get it on a 100% fairly close to that now)I can say that you should get this game if you enjoy the open world exploration and not for the storyline of the game.
The story is not that great and could've been done better.

A lot of reviewers/players complaint about the fact that the side missions etc are fastly repetetive and honestly I have to agree with that.
They couldve added some more stuff to do and removed a couple of things.
For instance the scavenging over the whole world is a nice addon , but having to get every single one of them for a trophy or achievement feels a bit overkill.

Coming to the trophy/achievement subject a lot of them are earned doing the repetetive side missions and exploration missions.
Since I'm a trophy hunter myself this is highly frustrating , don't get me wrong I like a challenge but doing the same thing over and over (basically grinding) for such a useless trophy isn't really worth it.
So if youre a trophy/achievement hunter with a lot of time on his or her hands go for it , otherwise i'd reccomend going for another game.

I enjoyed the game on a fair level so its a 6,5/10 for me.
The game wasn't too bad but could've been done a lot better.

That lacking, little else is. Although I didn't find firing and driving an easy task i am unsure if that is a controller issue or mine. The game loading and saving system is very good with lots of slots and a quick rapid save. Over all a good game Expand

Dull and rushed plot. Good graphics. Repetitive gameplay. Mad Max is a game youl wil most likley have fun with for a couple of hours, but then struggle to get through to the end.

Conclusion: it's a must have for any who loves action and the 80's movies with a touch of next gen!

    + Really fun upgrade system
+ Extremey cool scenarios and landscape design
+ Driving and combat is really fun
+ Loads of stuff to do
+ The camps are all different, and feel really cool to explore (not repetitive at all in my opinion)

    - Dodgy graphics / textures in some points of the game
    - Really bad performance issues with framerate drops that last quite a while
    - Handling of the character feels a bit rough sometimes, could be better (for instance jumping, dropping off edges ...)

I felt compelled by the game play and the whole Devastated violent unforgiving world. The game itself is just too damn big, and for those who do not fall in love deeply with it might not like it as I did, just for the repetition such a gigantic open world might bring.

If you liked the 3rd and 4th mad max movies, it is a faithful recreation of the world, even more cruel I would say.

Definitely worth to check out, worth every penny. I really hope this was the begging of a franchise, the game could be a 10 game if they invest a little more time and love on it, just a little.

For someone that has not seen the latest movie the introduction felt a bit unexplainable and unconvincing, but the setup and the massive world makes up for pretty much of that. I like that you have to earn yourself favors to get different fractions to trust you, but still the missions get repetitive pretty fast. And you tend to loose interest.

    Mad Max reviews on PS4

I waited to play this game until a price drop due to some of the low scores and also because other games being out such as The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, etc. However, after playing this game for several hours I had to create an account on metacritic just to give my opinion and maybe help others decide to buy or not buy.

    The good:
Graphics are beautiful; I have never seen a wasteland look more amazing (sorry Fallout 4).
Story is actually really good once you are open to the idea of this being a "Mad Max" world and setting. It's goes along with all of the movies setting the tone where it should be.
Soundtrack is also great which sets the tone for the game.
Characters in the game are insane, crazy, and completely out of their minds, which is perfect for this setting.
Car and character customization is a really nice feature that allows the player to step back and see their progress and character development.

    The Bad:
Sometimes the repetitive missions within the vast open world can feel a bit to much at times.

Overall, this is a must own game for anyone who is a fan of Mad Max or an open world fan. Sure this game isn't as vast and expansive as the The Witcher 3 but I found it to be better than some of the other games out right now that are getting a higher score than this game. I really don't know why the critics rated this game with some of the low scores, it just doesn't make any sense?

The best open world games nowadays are an expansion of the form, but Mad Max is highly regressive in far too many areas to be meaningful.

Mad Max used its imagery well, and as a sandbox game, it's thematically pretty coherent. I actually liked this more than GTA V: driving around is more exiting, and Batman-style fist fighting is more fun than Gears of GTA -cover shootouts. [Oct 2015]

A functional open world game, Mad Max captures none of what makes its source material great. Missions are uninteresting, the world is dead and there are next to no damn car chases. [Issue#262, p.64]
