    Interstate '76 meets Fallout 2.

If you have played Just Cause 2 you might notice the gameplay similarities in both mechanics and amounts of fun you get out of the game.

The combat fighting is amazing and the road wars are as well, there is tons of explotions and action which gives this game the real Mad Max touch.
The costumization of Max and his car is great and I like the fact that you have to drive out in the open world to find loot to build your car ect.

Big thumbs up from here! :)

Take all the cool things about Just Cause, water them down, add a bunch of continuity errors and characters you don't care about and call it Mad Max and that's this game. I beat it in six days, got it via Gamefly just to try it and it was barely worth the slot in my queue.

I really, truly enjoyed this game. The early hours are a bit of a slog while you level up your max and the opus (Car). After getting used to the vehicle controls and the on-foot combat controls, exploring the devastated world of Mad Max becomes a joy.

Car combat has never been done better and every car you see you can drive. Explosions make the payoff of destroying your enemy oh so sweet.

The on-foot combat, while at first seems sluggish and clumsy becomes a brutal dance once you're used to the controls and level up Max a bit. I found myself attacking outposts just so I could watch the awesome animations of Max clothes-lining some fools.

I've beaten the main story and am still wandering the wastes in search of that precious scrap. For what this game is going for now (Around $30) you really have no excuse not to try it. And even if you hate it at first, give it an hour or so to settle in. You wont regret it.

One thing to note on the technical side. During certain driving sections I had some of the worst frame rate drops I've seen on the PS4. So much so that it affected gameplay. Only happened a handful of times, never had a hard crash like I've had on other open world games.

Mad Max is good 3rd person action game which isn't necessarily bad but It's not anything special either. I'd recommend it buying at full price only to the core fans of Mad Max universe.

Upgrading your vehicle and stats is always good fun, and is achievable through collecting scrap metal and lowering 'threat' in parts of the world. Scrap collecting can be a bit tedious, however there are options to have scrap collected for you automatically via certain upgrades.

The driving is fun and often resemble the best parts from the Fury Road film. My only complaint, I would say, is that there's no option to make choices in the story - something I have come to enjoy doing when playing games. Max is, understandably, quite selfish through most of the game, though does show a shred of consideration to some of those he meets - although this is usually for personal gain. Just part of his character, I suppose.

Combat has been done very well, and the need to scavenge for basic materials such as fuel, water and food add an extra element to the game which doesn't go unappreciated. I would recommend Mad Max to anyone who fancies a good, open world, post apocalyptic environment with solid gameplay - yet doesn't care so much for a story or for the Mad Max series as a whole.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Games are supposed to fun, and this one is regardless of it's repetitive nature. And yes, super stable with practically no FPS drops. And you CAN play the game without an update and the update size is reasonable. Probably the highest quality release on the PS4 to date. Another great game where critic reviewers are out of touch with.

"There is something so satisfying driving through the wasteland"- Colin Moriarty. I echo that statement.

I lost my 24+ hour save by mistake and had to start all over. That didn't put a damper on the entertainment as Mad Max is a game that deserves to be replayed. Just finding out about the world through historic relics is awesome. What happened to this world? Why did the ocean retreat?

And at essence this game is about the world that Max finds himself in. Its just so fascinating and a experience that needs to be savored. The campaign leaves little to be desired but then again its the dismantling of camps, finding scrap, car combat and just wrecking in combat that make this game a game. A favorite of mine for 2015 as there was little known about it before launch and thus you go into the game to experience it.

Combat feels like from Guy Richies movie, u hear bones cracking and punches landing, with some awesome slow motion effects and gory details. Also car chases, those are fast, thrilling, with amazing effects and great use of harpoon, you can strip enemy cars from wheels, bodyparts or drivers themselves. But the problem is, thats all there is, I spend maybe 10 hours in game and then I just gave up, everything just feels the same, the first base you are raiding feels as difficult and rewarding as the one UR raiding 8 hours later, same with the car chases, or convoy challenges, it just feels the same like the first one. The only challenge that the game gave me was finding of scrap parts and insignias in enemy bases, but thats just annoying, you are running around bases over and over trying to find collectibles, feels like a 90s game. And the story doesnt deliver at all and there is nothing to care for. So when I figured out, after 10 hours of gameplay that Im just doing the same things all over again and again, and Im just aproximately 50% done with the game, I just gave up, it didnt felt that the game has anything more to offer other than what I done 150 times over already. I don't know what reviewers were expecting, Its fun and is what Mad max should be. Yes it get's repetitive but it sort of fits the story in a weird way.

The vehicle physics are excellent, which is good because you do a lot of driving.
Combat is very similar to Batman & Shadow of Mordor, which I like.

Only downside for me was the assisted targeting for the harpoon, or lack thereof. 9 times out of 10 it would highlight a section of an enemy vehicle that I didn't want to target, and wouldn't allow me to target a wheel for example.

But overall a very fun game. This is exactly how a Mad Max game should be made.

Car combats are silly, since your enemies just hit their cars against yours, and thats it.

Story is really, really bad. Actually there is no story at all for most part of the game, since most of the main story quests will be "collect scraps to upgrade your car".

Graphics are the best part of the game. The wasteland is huge and beautiful to watch, but I just realized I was spending more time taking pictures in the photo mode than actually enjoying the gameplay.

Despite being beautiful, there is not enough to do in the wasteland. That makes a bad combination with the stupid main quests that won't let you advance unless you upgrade your car. For example, at some point my main quest was to collect 300 scraps. So I went looking for scraps. After I just found an outpost, defeated 10 enemies, all I got was 40 scraps. Guess what, there won't be any scraps sources nearby, then I had to drive gain untill I found more 20 scraps. Repeat. Then I realized I was driving and driving for more than one hour looking for scraps.

Next mission: I had to find another base that I could use to upgrade my car. When I found that base, then here comes next mission: collect 200 scraps to upgrade your car. Thats Mad Max for you.

The game is really lazy. Nowadays some developers are just using the "open world" term to sell games, without putting effort in creating a unique experience. I have to admit I'm one of those guys that gets excited when you can freely explore a huge world, but Mad Max is boring and lifeless.

Just a forgettable game released in 2015. Get this one on sale if you are willing to give it a try.

Boring as hell, the sand storms are the dumbest mechanic you could add to a game and it's all identical, you just repeat the same 3 things ad infinitum, the game tries to make you play secondary missions which are even more of a giant waste of time, making you repeat the same thing for hours. All mechanics are made so that you waste one more second of your time to this piece of junk. It's also buggy, the console can't render the graphics for **** making for cutscenes where the characters have big areas of the same colour instead of details. It's overall unpolished and the commands are confusing, with r2 to run, l2 to jump, O to shoot the gun (of which losing a round is a rather big deal).
Again, it's painfully built on the idea that it really wants you to spend time doing nothing. To take something from the ground you have to wait a couple of seconds, to talk with a guy you have to wait a couple of seconds for the conversation even to start, to have markers on the map you have to spend five minutes of a montgolfier slowly going to the air, you selecting every single marker you see and it going back down. The combat is pressing the same button for 15 minutes with a rare second button to keep pressed to win any fight ever.

I guess people really need an excuse to throw their time away doing nothing and they really like it. That or marketers have put quite the effort into making this look appreciated, notice how all 10 points reviews are from 1 and 2 september. I also saw them on other sites, claiming this to be the greatest game ever after not even a day of it coming out.

Gameplay 8/10 Like batmans combat and a all new car combat style. 7/10 Story Exactly what i had expected. Not some The last of us story telling but its a ok story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got really sucked into the Mad Max world and I love it's mix of clustered chaos and serene peace. I have a hard time putting down my controller and even though tense car battles and mission tend to wear on me... basically I need a rest from it... I just charge back in.

I feel like the results of missions, however fetch quest they are, have interesting reveals of the post-apocalyptic world and I can't help but get into scavenger mode and search whole areas. Usually with a surprise sprinkled in with some thoughtful construction and architecture. Like every place had a story and a meaning/usefulness and is now lost to the world. I feel like there is some type of payoff every time.

EX:(small spoiler if you care) Finding the Christmas tree with a family of mannequins pose around the tree in the middle of the desert was quite effective. I actually had to pause as the sun hit the visual perfectly and then a storm blast though and go, 'yeah... this world is f**ked.'as I raced to find shelter in a area with very little protection.

Mad Max has many moments like this.

The racing/battle car mechanics feel fresh and customization beneficial. You make your ride to your liking. The fighting mechanics are, as many have stated, similar to Batman and SoM... but for me that's fine because I love the fighting control of those games. You still can get overwhelmed and overpowered, I think more so in Mad Max than Batman and SoM. You are much more limited with weapons, making the feel of getting down and dirty (and well timed parrying) the best way to prevail. Also with Batman and with SoM there is more variety in escaping. Getting to higher ground and retreating. Not so much with Max.

I read a lot of reviews. All I can say is to each their own. I love this game and I still have a ton to explore.

I would recommend for anyone looking for an adventure in exploration and tense action.

If you love Rage, Borderlands and Shadow of Mordor you will love this game for sure! Awesome game with a lot things to do. There is few things which are not done perfect like strange camera angles when you are near wall, but overall awesome and well optimized game!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to say the game is about a 50/50 why? cause once Max steps out of his car the game sucks. and you cannot suspend disbelief enough to get totally into it...i am just playing it until F4 comes out.
    1. combat is clunky you have to fight the camera especially if you get up against a wall.
    2. WAY to much timed button mashing (which does not work most of the time)
    3. the constant time slow down for execution scenes is way over done..its not that special or cool.
    4. glitches in terrain and or items that are there but not being seen for example a transfer tank that is invisible but needs to be blown up
    5. MAX has no real range capabilities why cant you throw the shiv???? WHY cant you take the sniper rifle out of the car??
    6. hood ornaments are lame cant see any difference in their effects.
    7. as others have said its VERY repetitive.
    8. why are there no women in the gangs that attack you?
    9. really water heals all?
    10. maggots or dog food really?
11 so if I get out of my car the world forgets about it and attacks me while chum if fixing it? so chum is invincible what the heck do you need Max for?
    12. no stealth or real strategy for bases..its either a frontal assault..or the same painted side entrance on every encounter. then its always mob fighting until you take them down.
    13. in a sand storm the balloon is perfectly still.
14 the ambient sound in the bases is all the same there are voices but no ones around.

This game starts slow and that's where most people give up. Once you unlock more skills and upgrades, this game becomes very fun. The world is also very immersive and packed with fun side content that you can do until you clear the map. Graphics are technically decent, but it's the visual style and the lighting that takes the cake...probably the best post apocalyptic game visually so far. Get it !

Yes the game have some glitches and a lot of people is b"#"$ing about it, but remember when you play with a cartridge and the game have glitches and there where not patches or updates. This is a great game, great fighting mode like Batman Arkham Series, and is rewarding you unlock thing while you play and complete special missions. And if you are a REAL Mad Max fan you should play it

All right, Critically speaking this game doesn't have much to offer but as a gamer I'm enjoying this game more than most that have come my way recently so here's a breakdown review for you.

All right, Critically speaking this game doesn't have much to offer but as a gamer I'm enjoying this game more than most that have come my way recently so here's a breakdown review for you.

Graphics: People who say a game sucks because it lacks colour should keep their mouth shut, though it is true that it is better to have a varied pallet over the same bleak colour I would rather take a well made desert over poorly made areas any day, the thing that makes mad max different in its setting is how well it's done, the desert looks bleak and depressing which is what I expect from a desert but it also looks really nice, the lighting gives you feel of being in a real desert and the world actually looks varied in the terrain rather than the colour. 9/10

World: The world of Mad Max is a desert, there's not much to say about that. At times I felt that even with the cars, the world felt too big, while every sandbox game boasts the largest sandbox available I think they should instead do what Shadow of Mordor did and just make the world large enough so you can explore it without the tedious to and fro you get from the likes of Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3. That said, the world looks beautiful and there is plenty to see and do but the size makes it a drag from time to time. 8/10

Story: Now people have constantly said this game doesn't have a story but I find that to be untrue, the main story by itself is very, very bare bones but the side quests given to you supplement it, this is a true RPG where the side quests matter to your experience instead of just being a check-list item, I found myself more engaged with what was going on when I took the time to do things for these people. The story is also in the locations and collectibles, giving you a reason to explore and find artefacts. 9/10

Gameplay: Harkening back to Shadow of Mordor, the gameplay is very similar to Mordor and Batman Arkham with regards to the combat minus the stealth mechanics which suits the style of the game. While the gameplay is clunky compared to Batman Arkham and Mordor it does everything right for the most part, the parry system could be more responsive but that's a given. The driving is actually up to par with what I expect from a real car, with different vehicles actually handling differently forcing you to adapt to them but I can't figure out why this game doesn't have a hand brake available which would make car combat less tedious. 8/10

Things to do: Mad Max has plenty of stuff to do but it isn't very varied, Wasteland missions (side missions) are good when you get them but there aren't that many with each Warlord giving you about 2 or 3 at a time, reducing the influence of Lord Scrotus is 90% of what you do by destroying scarecrows or raiding camps, which can get tedious but never boring. The best part is when you raid a Boss camp, while the bosses could have been more varied in their design (they are the same guy just re-skinned) the way you fight them is interesting as they all have their own weaknesses from being weak to bladed weapons to fury mode but an upgraded shotgun can make it a bit easy especially if you have the maximum ammo upgrade but despite that they're still the highlight of the game. 8/10

The tipping point for me about this game is that it is more Mad Max than the movie, while Mad Max: Fury Road was a good action movie, it wasn't a good Mad Max movie with its not so subtle messages while this game is just drive and kill Mad Max style.

Overall, Mad Max doesn't bring anything new to the table but what it does bring is tried and tested gameplay that is both parts challenging and rewarding making it a better game than most blockbusters that come out these days.

Of all the games I've played in the 3rd quarter of 2015, I've put the most hours into Mad Max. It was everything I was hoping for and more. If you enjoy driving in games, you'll love Mad Max. The car-fighting action brings me back to the "Twisted Metal" series and its "gritty-ness" is reminiscent of Road Rash, a game I've always loved.

IMO, more than 90% of the 103 negative user scores

IMO, more than 90% of the 103 negative user scores are just angry, ranting lies; probably from people who never played the game. I always ignore scores of "0" and "10" because they're often the product of angry fans venting their frustration.

Do I recommend Mad Max to everyone? No. However, read some of the genuine reviews and you'll see that it's nowhere near what the "majority" had to say about it. Mad Max is a great game that simply got some mixed reviews, and unfair ones at that. Dishonored (one of my favorites) got mixed reviews when it released, and now it's got a cult-like following and it's one of the most popular PS3-PS4 remakes!

The point is..Mad Max is a great game. Don't let other people's bad reviews spoil what could be a great adventure! Just because this isn't a game that's as hard as Bloodborne or a story as rich as The Witcher 3's definitely doesn't mean it's a boring game, and certainly not a bad one either. Mad Max is entertaining as it gets!

Too many bugs and glitches and for once I had to replay the game all over from the beginning just because I had my Garage tab to never show up after the final story mission.. The 3rd patch may have had fixed the old issues but certainly brought up new ones like being unable to choose autosave slots from the in-game menu and huge fps drop..

Overly dramatic at some points, but still doesn't take away from how fun the open-world action is. The average player may get very distracted from the story considering how much driving their is, but the weapons bring you right back in. Childish fun, but definitely recommended.

There is a huge game world to start. Full of details, things to do and stuff to collect (if you like that). The details really make this game shine. There are so many little things that just stand out. The locations are beautiful. I spent so much time just taking pictures while using the photo-mode. Oh yeah, there is a photo-mode where one can move the camera around. Just like in Batman Arkham Knight.

Talking about Arkham Knight. The fighting system is very similar. But that's a good thing. It works and Max fights with chutzpah and by god does he have anger issues. :D He beats the living **** out of people. (Oh this is my first review, not sure if I'm allowed to swear... I do that a lot usually. I'll try and keep it to a minimum.) It is great fun to have to fight about 30 guys at once and to just see Max f*ck them up. The executions are awesome.

There are races to participate in and unlike many other open world games these ones are fun and somehow more logical. Most of them aren't your typical "stay on the course"-races. I mean like they would have those after the apocalypse! No. The races task you with mostly just getting from A to B. How you get to be, what route you take: that is up to you. I loved finding out that sometimes I could just go straight through the desert and other times it would make sense to remain on the roads. The game never punished you for being yourself and doing what you thought made sense.

The missions are fun and varied enough. I mean they fit into the whole game. Critics complained that the missions were all the same. First of all they are not. They are similar, of course. But what do people expect?? For Max to dress up like a clown and go to a party? That just wouldn't fit in.

Also the customization is fun and awesome. I won't write any more. Don't want to spoil anything.

I could go on and on for ages, but then would be telling you a little about the story and I don't want to spoil it for anybody. All I can say is this game is great. It is such fun to play and never once became tedious. It is just FUN!

I recommend everybody playing it. Well anybody who like open world games.

However, the game is not perfect. It lacks the sheer insanity that Fury Road had.The game needs proper war parties, not just convoys of 8 cars max. It needs ways of jumping from car to car, sabotaging and hijacking as you go. Just Cause 2 had this done pretty well, so I'm not sure why it isn't present here. Also - the soundtrack. I know the game isn't a movie tie-in but it would have benefited greatly from the film's score. The music in the game isn't bad, but it adds little.

Your car and your character Max are more upgradable than customizable. Max can get a leather jacket, wrist guards and gloves, but you can't customize the way these look. You do get to choose the basic shape of your car, and then you can add some decals and eventually you can choose what color to paint the car. Other upgrades to the car just make it go a little faster, handle a little better, or improve it's armor rating, but I would not call that customization.
Controlling Max in a fight is like the Batman Arkham series but not nearly as fast and fun. However, once you upgrade your ammo belt and do a project that allows you to get full ammo whenever you return to your base, the game starts to get a bit better because you can blast the more annoying enemies (the ones who dodge all of your attacks) with your shotgun, which is pretty awesome.
Car combat is strange. You use a harpoon a lot and try not to get rammed by other cars because your car can't take many hits. If you are out of shotgun shells and makeshift missiles (thunderpoons) it's often best to run away and avoid car combat. You would think that defeating enemy cars and then driving them back to your base would earn you a ton of scrap for upgrading your car, but it doesn't pay off. You can collect parts to build projects that allow your allies to collect defeated cars and gather scrap, but this also does not add to your scrap supply as fast as you'd think it would.

I can tell that it's going to take many months to finish this game, because I don't like playing it for more than an hour or two at a time - it's just too boring. I play this game while waiting for more Batman DLC and when there's nothing interesting to read about in the news.

I feel like it should also be noted how unusually detailed the world in this game is. No two locations are the same, even the numerous war-boy camps that dot the landscape are different in their layout and structure, making them all feel organic to the game's world.
the driving is responsive and fun to do in general, so much so that I haven't bothered using the fast travel even once. though if I were to bring up an issue with the car combat; I found the enemy cars to be too skittish, often running away at minor damage. I feel like more aggressive or reckless enemy drivers would have made for more intense road combat.
hand to hand combat is simple but satisfying, with combos being rewarding with neat fishing moves including a German suplex (my favorite). get used to rolling though, because later game enemies will dish out a lot of unblockable attacks that can really mess up those who have only mastered the parry.
all in all, I'm satisfied with Mad Max and would suggest it to fans of the movies or those looking to scratch that car-combat itch.

The fighting, in an Arkham kind of way, is improved because you actually have to be looking where you´re hitting or counter-striking. Is not just tapping X like Batman.

The depth of field of the game is really something else. I play on a projector and it really looks great. Great Graphics. Maybe they go 15-20 fps when a lot, lot is going on. But is not that bad.

I haven´t finished so right now I could only say that im a really good friend of my car.

I had a LOT of fun with Mad max. I played it relentlessly until i saw the credits roll. While it does have some pretty noticeable flaws, it was still a solid experience.

Avalanche studios perfectly emulates the world of Mad max. It's characters, presentation, and cars are spot on. The story follows Max (obviously), and his quest to reach the plains of silence, a locale which he hopes he can escape his past. But after a fairly mediocre and rushed opening, Max makes a mortal enemy: Scabrous Scrotus, the ruler of gastown. After getting his car stolen by said ruler, Max makes a friend: chumbucket, a wasteland mechanic. Together, they must build their ultimate ride and escape to these plains of silence.

The story is actually pretty good. It was interesting and engaging enough to want me to see it through to the end. Along the way, you meet many interesting characters, half of which are group leaders, whose strongholds you can use as a base of operations. But one thing i didn't like about the story was this one character named Hope, a slave bounced back and forth between masters throughout the game. She and her daughter, glory, are just not interesting characters, and what makes it worse is the shoehorned in love story between her and Max. It just doesn't work.

The gameplay is split up between driving/car combat, and ground combat/scavenging. The car combat is so much fun, slamming into cars, shooting at them with explosives and shotguns, lighting them up with side-mounted flame throwers, and literally pulling off their armor and wheels with the harpoon. I always had fun when engaged in car combat. The overall driving mechanic is really solid too. Ground combat and exploration is fun as well. the combat is reminiscent of the batman arkham games, except with many major tweaks (not to mention more violent!)

The wasteland may be the best open world I've experienced in a video game. Which is ironic, an open world that is meant to be empty feels so alive and full of personality. In this world, you'll tackle side objectives, which consist of toppling intimidation towers, taking out Scrotus convoys, partaking in vicious death runs, and taking up many jobs from the stronghold leaders. While some of these tasks get repetitive, others, like the convoys and camps, are really fun.

Now i'm going to get into some of my major gripes with the game. Boss fights being one. There are mainly two types of boss fights, big guys that swing huge sharp things, and small fast guys that flail around dual shivs. These get repetitive. There are also several graphical quirks, such as glitching models and framerate slowdowns. And the thing that made me the most angry, was a bug that prevented me from continuing the game, forcing me to restart the entire thing. Thankfully this was early on.

Overall, i really did like Mad Max, 8/10.

Being a major Mad Max fan I was absolutely excited for this game. To finally play as Max and lay destruction in the wasteland. This game let me live those hopes and dreams, but it wasn't without its disappointments.

    Story:

The story starts off almost exactly the same as the movie. As Max is driving Scrotus, the Warlord of Gas Town, and his War Boys chase him and take possession of his car turning it into scrap. You then meet a Black Finger (mechanic) who says he can help you build a new car and restore it to your previous cars glory. Max's main goal is to go to gas town and get a V8 engine for his new car so he can go to The Plains of Silence where he believes he will finally find peace in the wasteland.

The story was meant to fit in with the current movie that was just released and does so to a degree. Both personalities that we see in game and in the movie are completely different. The main thing that troubled me as a Mad Max fan is that when he reflects on his family it shows visions of his wife and daughter (who seems to be 10 or so). Which threw me off (Max had a wife and a son no more than 2 years old) and made me think that Max isn't THE Max, but just a man in the same situation. It did not take away from the game, however it was a disappointing moment.

    Gameplay:

When you first get your car it starts out as just a frame, but not to soon after you get to choose a car body that will depict the type of driver you are based on attack, defense and speed. If you want you can change your car body afterwards and you also find more car bodies in the wasteland.

The vehicle customization is the best part. In order to gain parts for your vehicle you need to acquire "scrap" which is found throughout the wasteland and is a foundation of the game. Ever part you add changes the states for better or worse. For example, you can have the best suspension, however if you add to much armor your handling will go down. Other elements and added parts affect the type of vehicle you will have. There is also what they call Archangels which consists of different vehicle builds and are body specific. They also require specific parts in order to complete. Archangels do not add anything special to your car, but are merely just specific car configurations. I personally found this feature useless and unnecessary.

As mentioned before "scrap" plays a huge role through the whole game. You pretty much need to ever bit because not only do you need it for your car, but for Max as well. You can upgrade his signature jacket, turns his double barrel shotgun into a quad barrel and give him wrench knuckles. It can also be used to teach Max special moves like disabling enemies and breaking limbs. Without these special abilities the combat itself is mediocre

The wasteland is massive. It is incredibly vast and is exactly how you would expect it to be. Out in the wasteland you have multiple objectives. These include raiding convoys, taking down scarecrow towers and varies other objectives. These must be done if you want to free various territories from Scrotus's control. This I found very rinse, wash and repeat because you will be doing this the whole time you play the game and it really never changes except for the Bases with Oil Rigs. The mini bosses all have the same armor and same weapons and attack the same way.

I left this part for last on purpose. The car battles are fantastic and give you a pretty good adrenaline rush. At first it will seem like everyone is kicking your ass, but eventually you get to kick everyone else's ass. With the Black Finger on the harpoon you have the ability to rip of tires, doors and even pull people out of their cars. The man is a true ace. Smashing into everyone's vehicles is fairly exhilarating. This is the true Mad Max experience and the main reason to have this game.

    Graphics:

The world of Mad Max is exactly how I would of expected it to be. Lots of sand, but it has its own charm and beauty. The Peaceful Wasteland NPC's in the world are very poorly polished, but you do not see enough of them to really even care. Explosions look realistic and the cars look fantastic. Sometimes the PS4 would stutter, but not enough to really bother me.

    Issues:

I had some issues which could be easily fixed with a patch, but I had one major issue that crushed everything for me. My map would not display when I pressed the touch pad. The map is a crucial element and I was not able to access it after 30 hours in. I tried previous saves to try and restore my gameplay, but the only way to fix it was to reinstall the game and start over. After 30 hours of doing essentially the same thing over and over I just never attempted to continue it.

    Final Result:

This game is Mad Max. It lives breathes and eats it. However, it can get very dry and repetitive lacking some elements that could change it up. It is worth the buy and should not be counted out if you are a Mad Max fan.

After watching Mad Max: Fury Road, it made me hyped to buy the game. It exceeded expectations and after playing it for a week straight, ive only progressed 50% through this massive game. Driving through an open wasteland might sound boring, but theres a ton of things to do such as pulling down scarecrows, infiltrating camps, finding scrap and history relics in at least 100 scavenging locations and reading bios about every character, enemy, and location. The customization in this game isn't infinite, but its very good and uprading Max's jacket, shotgun, wrist armor, and more is very rewarding and enjoyable, and purchasing skills to upgrade Max's fighting skills makes the brutal melee combat even better. The Magnum Opus car is very fun and exciting to upgrade, such as weaponry, rims, armor, engines and more. The graphics are truly next-gen as different rocks and boulders break and fly aroound as you crash into them. The wasteland is truly dynamic and doesn't feel blank or bare in any way. The story wasnt the best but it was pretty good and resembles the Mad Max universe very well. It is one of the only games i ever played that had an enjoyable ending and unlocking special items to use after you have completed the story. There are also different Strongholds where Max can return and add vehicles to his garage, do Wasteland missions for the Stronghold leader, and upgrading the Stronghold is very rewarding. Finding Project Parts and building Oil Pumps to refill Max's vehicles, Maggot farms, Survey crews, and much more. Each Stronghold can upgrade as in donating scrap, and building projects will change the stronghold, such as adding new houses and decorations and more people, making it look way better than what it started with. Max can't do parkour, but he can climb ladders, certain ledges, shimmy trough small gaps, and jump a few inches in the air. This game has THE best camera editor ever. You can take screenshots and add a ton of filters, overlay, logos, blur intensity, exposure, and more to create an epic screenshot stabbing a guy in face, car combat, and whatever you want, Theres also a Video mode, where you can connect a second controller so a friend can record and control the camera to make an awesome cutscene. This game deserves an 11/10, and i hope this review helps you understand the game, and that your'e putting the disk in right now. Expand

Big Mistake, the intro of the game feels awkward and is completely linear, i felt like most of it could have been done differently, for example the intro fighting scene could have been the way to teach the player how to fight. Still I drove on and dived deeper into the game. The best i can say is that it is incredibly bland, completely mediocre, if you have played, assassin's creed, arkham knight or farcry, you've already played this game, multiple times. It brings nothing to the table, absolutely nothing. The graphics are ok, the skybox and the wasteland look amazing, very realistic, and have beautiful colors and you can get some very impressive sights. On the other hand, the character textures and structures, look dated, like textures from the previous generation of consoles.

I regret buying this game, it is not terrible, but i feel cheated, it feels like a copy paste from other modern sandboxes, the story is crappy and poorly written, after playing it for 4 hours i just cannot bring myself to start this game again on my PS4 :(

I joke, but that’s essentially what this game is.
You start the game losing your precious black on black, and it’s up to you, because who else is gonna help you?
    To get it back.
Maybe a hunchback with magical black fingers will help since he believes you’re essentially the Dragonborn.
You set out on your journey for redemption with the entire world full of scrap metal at your disposal.
Having to live off of small water pumps, maggots, lizards, and dog food.
Offering yourself to stronghold leaders in return of some help to continue your quest.
Mad Max is a massive open world with well over 50 hours of content.
The good or the bad is that this massive world is just that.. a massive world that stays the same, keeps the same rules from beginning all the way til the end.
By the rules of the game staying the same since the start, the world feels even more as one,
you’re introduced to everything that the game is going to throw at you very early on
but the downside of this is that it’s easy to feel repetitive…. After a while you’ll realize, wait a minute…
No matter what I do, I’m really just going to location after location and picking up its collectibles and killing all of the bad guys there and doing it over and over and over until the credits roll.
A side mission, a main mission, scavenge locations, it doesn’t matter, it’s the same thing.. collect scrap, kill everything there.
Luckily though, you have to really concentrate on the repetitiveness to notice it, because while the world of mad max is one giant collectathon, the locations are surprisingly unique considering the game takes place in a desert.
I actually loved exploring the open world, it never felt to me like the design team got lazy.
If you stop to just soak in your surroundings, you may actually find them to be quite beautiful.
Even the devastation and destruction is beautiful.
Without warning you’ll see a dark cloud approaching you, and you know you have to find shelter fast,
The skies are about to get dark, the wind is about to pick up, and lighting is going strike the ground around you.
The storms are terrifying, but bring so much excitement to the game, really adding a layer of immersion to an already super immersive game.
After a storm has passed you can set out into the world to find scrap crates it blew around or get back to looting.
While this really is just a game about map cleaning like assassins creed has become, there is reason to the mad maxness.
The scrap is used for upgrades.
You get scraps from exploding enemy cars, from scavenging, upgrading strongholds, and constantly like a bank system by claiming enemy camps, which is done by clearing them of their leader, fighters, or by destroying their pumps or tanks inside.
You can freely upgrade max, your weapons, or your car as you level up and decrease the threat in each territory.
You decrease threat by eliminating snipers, claiming camps, pulling down scarecrows, taking out convoys, and defusing landmines.
and You level up by completing combat, environmental, and car based challenges.
Leveling up really happens for the most part naturally.
Car combat is surprisingly fun, you can rip off doors, tires, explode tanks, or just ram into opponents until they explode or run away.
Hand to hand combat is a less satisfying version of the arkham games.
Mad max on foot and in combat feels very stiff. So think skyrim in 3rd person but with batman style prompts. The camera doesn’t pull out like in batman, which can lead to some hits that feel pretty cheap since the enemy is off camera.
enemies do die quickly in hand to hand, so weapons aren’t all too necessary outside of completing challenges and luckily neither is your shotgun.
And I say luckily because you can only hold 2 shotgun shells with you in the beginning until you upgrade yourself to being able to carry a whopping 7
Making the shotgun really only useful for hard to reach collectibles.
But then there’s the racing, the sections that if you’re like me you’re not going to enjoy even a little.
They’re cheap, luck based, physics don’t exist, your car seemingly has no weight, and handling in this game sucks, there’s a particular spot in the game where you die almost instantly from the never ending enemy cars in this quote unquote race that seem to do nothing but hinder you and are given a laughable 6 minute time limit to try and take out a larger truck.
And for some reason when you’re about to deal the killing blow, you will start locking on enemies behind you instead.
Mad Max breaks in the spots it needs to work most.
The racing in general and this section sprinkled into the main story really ruin what otherwise is a decently fun and relaxing experience.
It becomes a frustratingly cheap ps2 era time trial out of nowhere.
Luckily races are optional…but the one I had issue with the most unfortunately isn’t
While mad max stays the same game from hour 1 until hour 80, you’ll find yourself enjoying every second lost in this desert world claiming it for your own as you set out for a bit of revenge.
The racing sections though, not so much.

The critics are being way to harsh on a game that will have you glued to your seat for hours if not days. This game is a hell of a lot of fun despite a bit of a repetitive feel mid game when the massive world begins to open up and you have tons of locations you can loot for scrap. That said not every enemy encounter, death race, car battle, or enemy camp run is going to be the same experience even if you have repeat objectives to complete. For instance you cant approach every enemy camp the same way, each one has different defenses so you have to use some strategy and figure out how to gain an advantage on the enemy inhabitants or you will be quickly over run. And any one crapping on the car heavy steering controls is a winey baby, you get bad ass upgrades for your car over time so its no surprise to me that it looks and feels like a hollowed out rust bucket at first. I will mention that my very first death race I finished 1st on the second try no problem, I actually thought it was a little too easy. Once you begin to upgrade you opus(Mad Max's hotrod) car battles become extremely enjoyable and as long as your out on the road you'll have plenty of encounters with roaming bands of enemy vehicles, all of which have different ways of attacking you, as well as different strengths and weaknesses. The real addictive part in this game is collecting scrap, earning upgrades for your car as well as your character and all the awesome ways you can dispatch enemies. The game environment is nothing short of epic, the game action is tons of fun, and the characters you meet are unique and interesting; I never get tired of hearing what the people in the game have to say. Truth be told I'm not a fan of cinematic cut scenes or too much dialogue in a game but in this game it was a pleasure to sit back and watch and listen to the interactions you have with all the characters you run into through out the game. If you like exploring open worlds with endless task and side missions(think borderlands or gta) this game is for you. And I crap on anyones opinion that this game starts to grind, personally I never tire of the gruesome ways you can kill enemies in this game both in hand combat and while driving your vehicle. I mean someone could say that GTA5 starts to grind because it's massive and has repetitive objectives as well, so what ever. People gonna hate thats all I can say. I gave this game a 9/10 just to counter the piss poor reviews but in reality it feels like a solid 8-8.5/10. Expand

Mediocre at best. The game feels like a Batman/Wasteland crossover. Yes it's a lovely game, but the the fighting is limited, the weapon choices are VERY limited, and the game is jam-packed full of tedious and pointless tasks. Seems like more of a children's game - fairly disappointing.

one of the best single player experiences i have had this year... i just don't know why this game gets poor ratings from other reviewing sites ... i am just loving this game .. combat is great almost identical to batman arkham trilogy .. visuals are great... driving is good too... but .. jump button feels a bit awkward ,,,

Very solid game! Fills the needed niche of next-gen car combat. Open environment driving is fantastic and the car combat is visceral. PLUS, you can then get out of your car, explore, gather, fight and more. I am really enjoying this game.

"Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search of our better selves.”

    The Good:
Beautiful environment, chaotic car combat, great world building

    The Bad:
Repetitive fetch quests, shallow hand-to-hand combat, inconsistent difficulty

    Verdict:
Good, not great. Mad Max is fun albeit pure fluff. Worth playing if you're a fan.

To make it short, good looking, fun to play the first 30 hours and after that you realize that you're doing the same things over and over. There are good customizations too and honestly, the game worth the try. But to give you a good example, i've finished 55% of the global progression in about 65 hours, too damn long when you want to do everything on the map...

What's with all the above average scores from the critics? This game EASILY scores at least an 8 out of 10. Fun vehicle and hand to hand combat, large open world, upgrading Max and your car is also very fun and addictive. I have already invested over 40 hours, and none of it have been boring. Story is not too shabby, but the gameplay is what matters more in a game.
    Not to mention, the PC

A mad max-game should give you a taste of the desolation, the fend for yourself- and go your own way-mottoes that's inherent to that world. It isn't perfect, and of course there's room for improvement in later games(when isn't it; in a first-in-a-new-series-game?) - but it's much, much, much, better than what most critics give it credit for and I'm not surprised to see the actual gamers themselves loving it. If you love the Mad Max world and seemingly endless activities to do in an open world sandbox then this game is for you. No, it is not groundbreaking or revolutionary in any way, but I love being immersed in the Mad Max world in the beautiful Wasteland. I'm writing this at work and I can't wait to get home to play some more!

This game deserves a 9 but due to game-halting bug in one of the story missions I give it an 8. While this game may be similar to other WB games, this game is far better than Batman, but not quite as good as The Witcher 3. If you like games that offer a decent story and tons of things to do that are challenging and fun, I recommend this game as at least a rental if not a purchase. Definitely fun, but also seriously flawed. I've beaten 40% of the game so far. The driving is awesome and the battles, while driving are awesome. It looks great...smashing through a car and the fire ball that reaches for the heavens is freaking sweet!

Now the flaw the, fatal, fatal flaw...the fighting sucks (really bad). I like the batman series and this fighting is very similar with one huge difference you basically press two buttons the whole time. One punches one parries...its fun pummeling dudes but, oh so repetitive. With batman, while it took timing, you had options with different attacks...with this you again just use two buttons. The worst is in pressing those buttons and timing things perfectly they will put you into animation that you can't parry (an incoming attack)...again...stupid. To make fights more difficult they just keep upping the number of dudes you take on at once, which takes things to a ridiculous difficulty when fighting 12-15 guys. I remember in batman happily pissing off 15 dudes because I knew I could beat them all flawlessly...not in this game, it's just frustratingly annoying. Bottom line: the driving keeps me playing but the fighting is deplorable and repetitive. I'm not sure I would recommend this to a friend unless they are just huge fans of the series...be warned.

I don't understand why all the reviews are so mixed. This game is great. I was reluctant to get this game since I've never seen a mad max movie nor do I know anything about them, but I'm impressed. By itself, this game is fantastic with a ton of content.

I've played this game for a good 3 hours so far and I'm hooked. The only thing I can think of mentioning that keeps the game from a 10

One of the best PS4 games to come out so far. This is a great game with alot of character customization, melee combat, and the best wasteland I've played in a game. The skies look beautiful, the sandstorms are intense. Not sure why it's being so underrated.

Ahh... A perfect Mad Max game, love it! And again his cars (The Interceptors) get stolen (again). But who cares? Anyway, the game was rock & solid, a truly AAA Mad Max game, where you ram (almost everyone) with your car, & beat every War Boys until their thick skull, CRACKED!

Best Game ever! Unless you count Fallout 4 & Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

What an incredible game. I came close to buying MGS V instead, but since I hadn't beat ground zeroes (The prequel to MGS V) yet, I decided to go with this first. The races, chases, harpooning, vehicle destruction, spearing, sniping, and running around and climbing on vehicles are all in this.

Unfortunately you as the player cannot climb other vehicles, but your friend and other enemies do this. The graphics are also quite amazing... The sand storms are beautiful.

I would have given this game a perfect score, but unfortunately there are some minor flaws. First, you, mad max, the main character... cannot climb up anything like you can in the GTA games. This can be quite annoying and is my only major irk I have with this game. You cannot climb up ledges of any sort, let alone other cars, buildings, rocks, etc. You also can't jump too high which you do by pressing the left trigger. When I see the enemies climbing around and up on my vehicles, i do become jealous.

There is no multiplayer, but I can't complain too much. I'm glad this studio focused on making an incredible single player game, because it really is. I would loved to have given this a higher review, and almost did, but the lack of climbing and the minor bugs prevent me from giving it a perfect score.

This is one INCREDIBLE game. If you like sand box games and the Mad Max world is what you wish you could live in, then pick this up. It's really amazing. I love driving endlessly, slamming and ramming into enemies hoping to pick up their scraps to upgrade my stuff. This game really gives you the survival feel because you scrape to find scrap parts, oil, and water and food to keep you alive.

Avalanche Studios, you all have made an incredible game. Please keep up the great work and make more DLC, expansions, and sequels.... I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!

Rich content, great gameplay (car combat is awesome and fist combat is brutal!), but kinda weak story (basically just: build a car...), and the game could feel a bit repetitive after a while.
The absolute best part about the game, where it shines, is the driving. This is something that I think many games lack, but in Mad Max it just feels so good.
Avalanche Studios delivered a decent and intense action-packed game, and I hope to see DLCs and possibly a sequel.

tl;dr... Mad Max is a solid and badass game. I recommend it!

Mad Max used its imagery well, and as a sandbox game, it's thematically pretty coherent. I actually liked this more than GTA V: driving around is more exiting, and Batman-style fist fighting is more fun than Gears of GTA -cover shootouts. [Oct 2015]

A functional open world game, Mad Max captures none of what makes its source material great. Missions are uninteresting, the world is dead and there are next to no damn car chases. [Issue#262, p.64]
