Best inFamous game so far. Good story, great world to explore, cool abilities and good to play through at least twice. Also achievable trophies for the trophy hunters out there!

"Infamous Second Son" is an exhilarating open world super hero game played from a third person perspective in a very nice looking version of Seattle. I highly recommend this game to anyone who can make the jump to a PlayStation 4. The game looks fantastic and plays great. However, the game follows tropes of its genre, both good and bad. The worst trope, or crutch, is the abuse of wave after wave of guys with machine guns who constantly shoot at you until you end up hiding in an alley until you recover.

For me, the super hero game gun problem began with "Crackdown". Despite the utter lack of a narrative "Crackdown" was a fun game because for the first time, you could jump anywhere and toss any person or vehicle. Yet, even at its best, "Crackdown" constantly subject the player to enemies that simply stood their ground and firing guns with an inexhaustible supply of bullets. This horizontal hail of bullets continued in "Just Cause 2", where the player character had two super abilities: 1) an infinitely re-usable grappling hook and 2) an infinitely re-useable parachute. The bad guys only had one super ability, telescopic x-ray vision that let them shoot the player character from any distance with any weapon. The game "Batman: Arkham City" solved the gun problem by mostly removing guns from the game. The story device was turning party of Gotham City into a prison a la "Escape from New York", and guns are not allowed into prisons. Although guns appear later in the game, Batman is provided some bullet resistant body armor and stealthy techniques for handling gun wielding enemies. At the very least, "Batman: Arkham City looked like the first super hero game that was not born out of a first person shooter. None of these games nor any super hero game to follow includes the simplest solution: a bullet proof hero. The one game I know of where the player character can be bullet proof is "Saints Row IV", though to be fair this attribute is only unlocked after completing most of the game and the entire game is a parody of other games.

"Infamous Second Son" does not make a character bullet proof. Nor can players truly fly. The player character has access to 4 sets of super powers, with something like 20 distinct powers in the entire game. None of the powers are very helpful when the main enemy is the ubiquitous faceless soldier wielding a machine gun. And the entire time you play, no matter what the power, the defense to getting shot is running away. Hard to look feel like a super hero when you're running away.

Another missed opportunity is the lack of differentiation for super powers. All four powers have a same-y-ness to them. You can do a quick movement, shoot enemies, disable enemies, or fire an enormous missile. The color changes but that's about. The big differentiator is the power of invisibility, and though fun, it won't clear the street of jack booted thugs. Most disappointing is the concrete power. You will see bad guys put their concrete power to creative uses. When you get the concrete power, your back to using the same few attacks, only less interesting. Sucker Punch is a studio that is apparently not brimming with creativity.

The story in "Infamous Second Son" is nice change of pace from some of the bonkers, surprise laden stories of AAA games in the last half decade. The highlight is the interaction of Delsin and his brother Reggie. Though the game is constantly teasing with a dark side, the interplay is funny, heartwarming, and sometimes hilarious. My one gripe is with how the story deals with the antagonist. Early in the game the antagonist violates federal law by torturing members of an Indian tribe on their reservation. Terrorism laws are one thing. Treaties are another. Later one, the player character has ample opportunity to defeat the antagonist in what could be considered the longest boss battle in video game history, except, of course, "Metal Gear Solid" took that prize back in the days of the original Playstation. Instead of playing to the story and ending the fight at the first available opportunity, the game forces the player to keep the fight going for no apparent reason other than padding the playtime. My suggesting for the developers: when you have a story that is more creative than the game play, let the story take over.

Final thoughts. For better or worse, the game uses every trick the PS4 controller has to offer: a color changing light, in-controller speaker, touchpad, and accelerometer. All of these uses seem tacked-on and gimmicky. The accelerometer, for instance, is only used to paint graffity, and even then, only within a stencil created by the developer. Why have a path for hate filled psychopathic killers? Despite the large open world setting, 100% completion is possible in 20 to 30 hours. The game looks great but the environment is standard non-destructible and the NPC models are straight out of the last generation. The InfamousPaperTrail meta game is expertly done.

This game does a great job with retaining the feel of inFamous with a good story and nice wide, open spaces. My main gripe with it is that you really don't feel engaged with the enemies (all one type with little variance), and perhaps they should have done more with fewer powers than cram as many different powers into the game as possible. Still a LOT of fun!

Infamous SS is a reasonable sandbox game that looks impressive but the gameplay and general narrative lack any real substance, making this a slightly above average title.

Firstly, the game looks absolutely superb on the PS4; the lighting and general textures are fantastic and the colourful effects really add to the gorgeous backdrop. The game performs solidly throughout and with it being such an early game in the consoles lifespan; it's definitely encouraging to see. Too many areas around the Seattle location are copy and pasted though and this makes for a repetitive feel to the scenery and the overall gameplay in time.

You play a young man called Delsin who acquires superpowers through an accident and it up to you how you use them - you can either be good or evil. The lead character is extremely irritating although he is supported by a significantly more mature and intriguing cast. However, the narrative doesn't go deep enough and most of the time you are given 50/50 choices on how to proceed. It just feels a bit linear. Whether you are good or evil; it opens the doors to a couple of play-through's but you may be bored after just one outing.

The game takes about 12-15 hours to finish which isn't very long and with a lack of an engrossing story, an poor lead character and repetitive gameplay; Infamous just lacks what is required of such a game. It's a sandbox but the overlay structure and depth is somewhat lacking. For an early PS4 game; this will pass as an acceptable title but it fails to maximise the potential of the console and the growing genre. This game is not worth full price and even around the £25 mark; it may be wise to skip and look elsewhere. In a few years time; this game will be gone and long forgotten.

I loved the beginning of the game. The first hour or so, introduces some fine characters, and what promises to be an emotionally compelling story.

I'm the kind of player that loves to level up to the max, grind, become godly in agame, then just destroy everything in my path. So before I got too deep into the story, I collected almost every shard, and had gotten every district down to 0% DUP controlled. And I REALLY enjoyed the open world aspect, and the grind. The world is small enough that you can collect everything and level up to the max in just a couple of hours.

But then the boss fights. I didn't understand why they were SO drawn out... For a while I thought this game would be the one of the first games where I disagreed with Adam Sessler's review. But no.. 20 minute boss fights? With almost no variation. Just the same repetitive actions for each boss. All of them 10 - 20 minutes. And if you die during a boss fight, you start either the beginning or halfway. Left a terrible taste in my mouth after an otherwise very fun game.

And the absolute worst part of the game for me was the good/evil options. I completed the good paragon side early in the game due to my grinding. So I decided to try and switch to the dark side, to see if I could complete the trophy about unlocking all of the powers. But.. Instead of earning evil karma, I was just demoted, so when I actually finished the game, I missed a gold trophy completing the game with good karma. There was no explanation, or advanced warning that would happen. But I refuse to play the game again with all good karma just to collect that trophy. That left another very bitter taste in my mouth.

But other than those two problems, I really did enjoy the game. Especially when there's not many quality games for the ps4 right now. But I don't think I'll be purchasing the DLC, or the next game in the franchise. Not unless all the reviews talk about better boss fights, and improved karma system. Or if they just got rid of them, I'd be into that..

This would be forgivable if these sacrifices in story made the gameplay better, but no, most of the time these illogical jumps in no way improve or actually make the game worse. Good for a few nights, but tends to be very repetitive. Also too easy for the most part. I managed the platinum in 4-5 nights play. It has some very good points and variety over the previous versions though, and is well worth a look. Story isn't much, but these clowns who whine about the story in these games make me laugh. The conduits are still being treated as dangerous subjects. Our hero, Delsin, is a rebel lad. And his brother, Reggie, is part of the police force. One day, the two of them witness a car accident. Delsin found a guy who can shoot fire from his hand, and when he touched him, he got the smoke power and turns into a conduit. So, will Delsin will be able to turn back to normal? Play and find it out.

    Plus point:
    - Lovely graphics. As a PS4 exclusive, Infamous Second Son has an awesome environment. I mean, it's a sandbox game, but it's just lovely.
    - Awesome gameplay and usage of the DS4. I mean, the way you use your controller as a spray can? That's just awesome. The game itself is pretty easy to control. One button to release Delsin's powers.
    - Still the choices of being Infamous or True Hero. This increase the replay value. But only once. The path to be a hero or infamous. After that, you are done!
    - Probably one of the game in PS4 with the easisest platinum trophy. Play it twice, and it's yours.
    - Delsin can absorbs total of 4 powers. Smoke, Neon, Video, and for the post game, Concrete. This makes the battle more variable. You can change your style in the middle of the battle, and see their different ultimate attacks.

    Minus point:
    - Cheesy story. I never expect much from the story. Well it is a sandbox game, but yeah compared to the Cole's chapters, Delsin's story is just plain & boring.
    - Although Delsin got 4 powers, the powers seems almost the same one to another. I mean, first there are shoot power, and then one big attack moves, jumping/flying moves. They could have specialized each power to make it more special though.
    - Lack of formidable enemies. Well, if you play it on insane difficulty, then yes, it's quite a challenge. But other than that, they don't have a "strong" bosses to challenge us.

    The verdict:
Infamous : Second Son is a must play if you have a PS4. I mean, it's GTA with superpowers. How cool is that? But don't expect the story to be awesome, because it's not. But nevertheless, the game us very enjoyable. Although you'll get bored with the repetitive missions. But that's to be expected. 8/10 for this game.

Gorgeous-looking game that pulls out all the stops when it comes to visuals. That being said, the story is only okay and it's shorter than I was hoping it would be. I'm not as big of a fan of Delsin as I was of Cole McGrath, but Second Son has a bit more of a darker tone than the previous two in the series, which I really enjoyed.

Right of the bat inFamous: Second Son is gorgeous. Considering the quality of the character models and how far graphics progressed on the PS3 and XBOX 360 it's safe to say that consoles are of to a great start.

The game was available at the launch of PS4 and in many aspects it seem to serve as sort a tech demo. It features a lot of cool new... uh... features. It extensively integrates the speaker on the controller, the touchpad and in some elements you get to turn the controller sideways and use it as an improvised spray can. Luckily most of these doesn't seem awfully contrived or forced and just give an extra layer of interaction.

The story in itself isn't groundbreaking and nor is the narrative. For those who have played other sandbox games it's actually a little bit too familiar. Just like Prototype and nearly all of the recent Spider-Man games it's an open world cityscape being occupied by an invading or peace-keeping force. It's generic but inFamous manages to keep it's ideas fresh at least. Especially the powers at hand feel like a step-up from the bland mechanics of other games in the genre. However, and I may be nitpicking, they do feel like they're forcibly rewritten. The first powers you get are called smoke but the effects involved seems awfully fire-like. The main antagonist is sporting a concrete power. Here concrete just seems like some attempt at making an earth-like power without naming it so. But then we have the colorful neon and video powers making up for it all.

There's also a lack of real defense mechanism in the game. You main key to survival is positioning, movement and having good enough aim to take down enemies before they take down you. Considering the game doesn't provide you with the most obvious indicators of incoming attacks there's a fair bit of trial and error. At least the first time around. My second play-through felt a lot easier once I gotten the hang of all the different encounters.

Basically, once you get the hang of the combat it's all down to you. It may be frustrating at times to be overrun by enemies without any proper ways to counter the barrage of attacks. Too many games to day just let you press Counter or Block and be done with it. But my immediate impression is that most of the time you're not really fighting a boss battle but rather trying to battle the game mechanics. The Arkham-franchise may be overly simplistic but it sure makes you feel like The Dark Knight making short work of villains. Not saying there's not moments where you feel powerful but it feels a bit degrading being forced to cover through boss fights or having to repeat large sections of a boss fight when you fail right at the finish line because you got a bit too eager or accidentally hit an obstacle on your way to cover.

Still, for all it's worth, inFamous: Second Son is a good game. It's fun to explore and toy with your powers, despite it's formulaic approach it's rescued by it's integrity. It's a solid production, great voice acting and interesting characters. It would have been fun to see a bit more though and some serious attempts at breaking the status quo regarding superhero sandbox games. Until we get to see some truly innovative takes on superheroes in games inFamous: Second Son is probably the best we get.

There are some serious moments, one that almost mad me cry, and that part where you can either kill ore spare Hank, really brought me into tears. And the vocal performances don't hurt either. inFamous: Second Son is a true demonstration of the power of the Playstation 4. The game looks amazing, and the gameplay is fluid. The story is intriguing, yet the side missions feel repetitive. The choice system involving good/evil is never fully expressed, either. Cole's Legacy is a nice diversion, although somewhat pointless. Finally, the Paper Trail dlc is just downright terrible.

Right off the bat, InFamous Second Son looks great. It is certainly not the best the game on PS4, but it does look nice. The cutscenes look amazing and everything runs at a smooth pace; however, I am disappointed that the game gave up its comic book look. The effects look nice and lip synching is mostly on. Graphically the game is great, but not astounding.

    Story: 6/10

Here is where InFamous Second Sons falters the most. In InFamous and InFamous 2, humanity was at stake. In InFamous Second Son only a small group of people were really at stake. It kind of beats you over the head with the whole "equality message" to the point of being annoying. I really enjoyed the more human elements of the story and Delsin is a great protagonist. He is funny, witty, and very likable. Delsin kind of reminds me of Deadpool. His brother is caring and has a strong sense of justice. The villain is a cartoonishly evil women, but at the end they paint her in a more sympathetic light. I cared about Delsin and his quest to save his tribe, but little else. This, however, led me to dread playing the evil version. Playing the evil version always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. However, aside from a few cases of who lives and who dies, there is really no difference in the story. It seems like Sucker Punch didn't want to do an evil version, but were stuck with it. Delsin just becomes unlikable. If you choose not to play through the evil version, no one will blame you.

    Side Activities: 7/10

I was sorely disappointed in the side mission, because there are none. In InFamous, you expanded your zone of control by doing a number of side missions. Collectables now run the show. However, collectables are still fun. My favorite is the spray painting one. It is creative and fun. I always wanted to do them and completed them, even if I didn't need to. Most side activities won't keep you unless you are a completionist which I am.

    Gameplay: 9/10

This is where the game shines the brightest. It has taken the gameplay of the previous games and innovated them. Smoke is the most similar to lighting of previous games. Neon is my favorite, it is like an up close sniper rifle and lets you move really fast, which is really handy for collectables. Video was disappointing and rarely used it. It uses a semi-automatic stream of projectiles, and it allows you to glide up buildings and in the air. Concrete was also fun, but you get it at the end, so you rarely use it. Concrete is like a machine gun and allows powerful movement, but limites jumping capability. The variety of powers is extremely fun and keeps you hunting for shards to increase your power. The melee has improved, but feels light and floaty. If there are future InFamous games, I hope with see more of Delsin and more varieties of power.

    Final Verdict: 8.5/10

I have recently adopted a .5 scale, except for a few circumstances. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give it a 9/10 or an 8/10. An 8 felt low, but I wasn't sure if the game deserves a 9/10. In the end I decided that if I had to struggle to give a game a 9, then it doesn't deserve a 9. The final verdict is an 8/10. It is great and a must own for PS4 owners. However, I still say InFamous is the best in the series. This game proves story does matter. I know I sound disappointed, but I had a great time while playing it.

General Overview: inFamous Second Son is a semi-open world super hero game that is beautifully rendered with incredible depth of field, a serviceable soundtrack, great sound, decent AI and great game play. Its not a hard game other than a few places (He Who Dwells is NOT my favorite part) and is pretty forgiving on normal difficulty. The dialogue is well written, the story is well done and very well voice acted and the motion capture is just fantastic. This is easily one of the best launch titles for either the PS4 or the XBO and if you enjoy open world action and being a hero, this is a game you should not miss! The game gets dinged for the supposed "morale choice" system as it is not a choice beyond the first one - once you have made that choice your ultimate power is driven by sticking to that initial decision. There is no substantial consequence to your decisions either so the entire idea is mostly an after thought. ALSO NOTE: The Paper Trail FREE DLC is so very, very well done. With that addition this has to be a 9.5 - for metacritic I am revising this to a 10.

TL;DNR: 10 - Great story with superb voice acting, truly next gen graphics, great game play mechanics. However the meaningless "morality" system appears to be an after thought and should have been better developed, serviceable soundtrack, great atmosphere and overall a fun game with just a few annoying technical control issues (He Who Dwells will sometime have you run backwards despite pushing forward on the stick causing you to die - just as an example) in places but otherwise a great launch title for the next gen PS4. Recommended for those who like to roam a bit and also experience a story - not Mass Effect level of story telling but a good story none the less.

Technology/engine: 10 - The rendering is amazing and really brings Seattle to life. There was not a moment of delay or tearing - phenomenal engine behind this game with great depth, clarity and detail.

AI: 7 - Not the brightest nor the dumbest AI, its passable.

Graphics: 10 - Superb and very realistic graphics rendered flawless by the engine. Great use of motion capture and excellent, seamless integration of cut scenes.

Sound: 10 - The sound is fantastic with great distance and depth recognition and perfect sound effects and good use of the mini speaker on the dual shock controller.

Soundtrack: 8 - beyond the Nirvana cover there is not much out of the ordinary nor off putting about the soundtrack. I won't go out and buy it, but it was never a real factor in the game. Appropriate intensities to fit the situations.

Voice acting: 10 - Excellent voice acting all around. Well delivered dialogue that is very believable and appropriate.

    Crafting: N/A

Customization: N/A - Very minor part of the game - Custom vests are available as your free sectors (not very intuitive for changing them though) and you get to spend points as you acquire shards for the abilities that interest you. Not a lot of depth here but that is okay for the game that it is.

Game play systems: 10 - Simply fun game play with lots of side missions and quests. Paper trail -available about 1/3 of the way through, is a nice addition and works seamlessly with the PS4 and a tablet or PC. The abilities make sense and the game is forgiving if you mess up - just run and hide until you regenerate health. Great fun all around. The morality system was meaningless fluff however after your initial choice.

Controls: 7 - The controls are flawless except in the areas where they need to be flawless - boss encounters. I had a number of deaths due to controller errors and lack of responsiveness in boss battles and that is my only gripe.

Story:9 - Well written and great pacing to the game's story.

    Multiplayer: N/A

Some of the characters are good, but the good characters are the characters we don't see much of. Delsin was not a very special protagonist. There is absolutely nothing that stands out about him. And the good karma ending is really boring and unsatisfiyng

The best thing about this game is without a doubt the amazing special effects. Aboslutely mind blowing. This game really have some of the best special effects in video games, and the photo mode is a really nice addition to the game. The game does not look to bad too, but I have seen better in the last generation for example The last of us. Some of the buildings are also destroyable and it look very realistic when it falls.

The antagonist is not too bad, and the reason she does thing is pretty good. She is more of a grey character that believes she is doing the right thing. Too bad Delsin is completely the opposite of that. For Delsin there are no grey, only good and evil, nothing between that. The game actually punishes you for trying to remain neutal as good karma and bad karma get special abilites and upgrades.

The gameplay is pretty good and there are many different battle scenarios and every battle does feel a little bit different, but not that much. There are no stealthy approaches here and that is kind of dissapointing. The side missions are fun at first, but quikly become boring. Excpect for some missions. My main problem with the game is that I never once felt like a super hero in this game, even though it technally is a super hero game. When I save people it does not feel like they need help instantly. There are not enough consequenses for doing something bad or something good. Even if you have saved may people, people will still react if you have killed someone too. I feel like a man with smoke and neon power and not a superhero. Seattle is also not a very exiting place to be. It all feel the same. And this game has absolutely no atmosphere. It does not feel tense like Dishonored or Fallout, it does not feel beautiful like Journey and it does not feel sinister like the Batman Arkham series. It feels like Seattlle. Nothing else. Just plain, old Seattle

Short summary: Bad story, decent characters, amazing special effects, good graphics, good gameplay, no atmosphere

Story in itself was pretty generic, but good enough a frame around a very well done main character. It was fun to play and there was progression all the way until the end. The game was short for my taste, but it lived up to my expectations. Probably have to play it through again for the obvious reason. Overall it is a solid, fun game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh, Second Son, how you toy with me. I have a love hate relation with the game. On one hand, it is the best looking game on consoles, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if screen caps are confused with images from high-end gaming PCs. On the other, the story was very meh. It's not as grandiose as the previous two (or even three, if you count Festival of Blood) games. That's not to say it's bad, but the story could have been boiled down to a few missions, making room for a much more inFAMOUSy story. Anyway, let me just write down some, uh, "bullet-points", sans bullets. The characters were good, but of the five or so supporting characters only one was fleshed out much, but even then, it wasn't enough to make me care much when that character died. Double spoilers, it's Reggie. Abigail "Fetch" Walker held a lot of promise; she lived on the streets of Seattle with her brother, and both were "taken in" by a gang of drug dealers. They both got addicted, she killed her brother using her neon powers while in a drug-fueled rage and decides to take out her anger on the drug dealers that use Seattle as their stomping grounds. Good, dark back story that is not yet a cliche, but will be soon, thanks to Breaking Bad. Sucker Punch had a chance to use this character and make her great, but they didn't. A few "drug busts" later and you don't see her again until the end of the game. Another side character was Eugene Sims. He could have been good too, a withdrawn kid who discovers he has powers a year after his mother, a senator, votes to give money to the DUP. Harsh, and could have had good family dynamic issues... But no. Sucker Punch makes him a gamer, and a very typical, weird, virgin-type gamer... Which makes you wonder, does Sucker Punch not realize that this is the person that their game is supposed to appeal to? Good job alienating the people who adore you.

Now, the dialogue, on the other hand, was fantastic. Every character felt believable in the moment, and the voice acting at its WORST was good, and throughout the game peaked at an 11.

Content... Now here is where the game was really polarizing. The (story) missions were really good, and they all had about the perfect length. Switching to the other foot, the side missions were terrible. Every "district" had the same missions, cut and paste, verbatim, over and over again. (Get the point?) The side missions were things like "look at this picture, find the person in the crowd, then subdue/kill them before they escape." That would have been fun maybe three or four times. After the twelfth time, it was just ridiculous. There was of course the two side mission sets that were more "story" oriented. These were Cole's Legacy (available with only the Limited and Collector's editions) and Paper Trail, which tried something new by letting you look at evidence on your computer to decipher clues about the crimes that had taken place. Nice idea, but I got sick of it after getting off my PS4 and onto my PC two or three times. Too bad it makes you do it six times in order to get... Not a new, awesome paper power, but a paper bunny mask. Yay.

The atmosphere was at its best near the beginning of the game when it was dusk and very foggy. After that, the city felt dead. Sure, there were people walking around who would occasionally take pictures of you and say things... But there were very few ambient sounds, and the cars are the same Hotwheels that drive in a perfectly straight line and don't dynamically alter their paths to go around obstacles, and the drivers never get out of the vehicles, taking everything in stride.

Gameplay was kind of hit or miss. (Skip this next part if you know what I am talking about.) In the first two games, X was jump. And only jump. This allowed to press X multiple times to scamper up walls to the next handhold. Second Son turns the X button into the glide button as soon as you're in the air, so when climbing buildings, if you press X multiple times, you'll just glide in place. They "balanced" this by making Delsin (the main character) scamper up walls already with a single press of the X button, but this just makes timing awkward. X, wait, X, wait, X; rather than XXXXXXXXXXX. Bad move. The reason they did this (the glide was originally on R1) was so they could use all of the shoulder buttons for different attacks. R1 is heavy missile type attack, R2 is normal gun type of attack, L1 is special, like grenade or invisibility, and L2 is zoom (for those really difficulty moments when you need the FOV to be 85 instead of 90. The Circle button used to be for cover, but now it does dash. This means, obviously, NO COVER. It also makes things awkward when you try to drop down from a ledge, because the Square button is drop...

Some redeeming factors... Camera mode. That's about it.

OK, the game's good, but it's just not as good as the first two (or three...). Something that would have made the game better... UGC. Yep, I said it.

    5000 characters already!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Infamous: Second Son is a Masterpiece if comparing it to Watch Dogs, hands down I enjoyed my time more playing Infamous then I did Watch Dogs. From the very beginning to the end I wasn't disappointed , The main character in Infamous Delsin Rowe is so much better then Aiden Pearce, I liked the cockiness of Delsin which made him a really sweet superhero or villain to play as. Another cool thing about Infamous is you could pick how your story went either becoming a hero, which you do good things or becoming Infamous in which you do bad things and become a villain. I also really enjoyed the powers you could become in the game which made it a ton of fun to play with the awesome gameplay. Infamous: Second Son is also the best looking Open world game I've ever played, with a beautiful recreation of Seattle, which was pretty sweet that they decided to make it Seattle. The Story in Infamous Second Son is very good with lots of compelling points and emotional points, especially when Delsins brother dies. I completed my first playthrough in 8 hours, I wasn't even rushing, this was 100% 1st playthrough completion in practically one day. Naturally to see both the Hero and Infamous endings you'll want to play it twice, which totaled up to a grand 14 hours. For the amount of money they demanded for this game that is simply disgraceful. Aside from that I found Delsin a poor replacement for Cole; While Cole was the sort of character who could have gone either way, being good or bad based on the short straws life had handed him, Delsin's motives were purely altruistic and any decisions he makes along the Infamous karma route don't develop him as a character at all, they just make him out to be a punk. On that note the good and bad karma decisions in this game were weak. While Cole had some good ones: Bad: Absorb the power of the ray sphere and become all-powerful or Good: Cast it off and save the city, Delsins decisions are more along the lines of Bad: be a dick or Good: DON'T be a dick.
The game is of course not without its good points, the powers are quite expansive and while they don't vary as much as Cole's did in Infamous 2 with regards to Karma, they are still quite balanced at it's not unreasonable to expect the player to attain complete mastery of all of them...Though I did favour neon myself. Open world Seattle was quite expansive and well designed, it did an absolute fantastic job of making us believe the game was much bigger than it actually was. Graphics were sound and the game ran smoothly with no noticeable glitches or bugs. While the voice acting wasn't terrible, Troy Bakers did absolutely nothing to help Delsin's case or make him even a remotely likable character. Quite the opposite I found.
To sum up my review, if you can get this game for cheap...like £10 or something I say go for it, while it may be disappointing to many Infamous fans it can be fun, but if you want to go ahead and buy it at full price anyway, you've been warned.

While the story may not be on par with something like The Last of Us, it's still interesting and fulfilling. The main story clocks in at about 10 hours (not long but not short) or 19 hours for the completionists out there (a very easy platinum trophy). Characters are fun but, sometimes underused. For example in the game there is character named Abigail Walker who is immediately interesting but, she's used for a while and then pretty much forgotten. Moral choices in this game are obviously good or bad and not innovative.

Gameplay is really the best part of this game. Including four different powers and smooth gameplay. The AI is smarter than in any InFamous game. Destructible environments are scattered all over the game's version of Seattle, Washington. Each power set has its own version of a projectile, missile, and precision shot and grenade like weapon, as well as a unique special power. In conclusion this game is too much fun definitely the best gameplay I've experienced in some time.

The visuals in this games are almost too good to be true. When I stepped into Seattle for the first time I stopped playing and took it all in, this game is honestly the best looking PS4 game out now. Beautiful, life-like and colorful city Seattle. Your jaw will literally drop in awe at how this game looks, especially at night and the signature Seattle rain. If this is how games look in the first year of the PS4 and XBOX One then, I can't imagine what'll be like 5 years from now when we're well into the console life cycle.

The in- game Seattle is filled with so much to do. Several side missions like drug bust (where several areas of the city are infested with drug dealers protecting their drugs and you can stop these people from this to earn good karma) to earn bad karma you can partake in harassing the local obnoxious Akurans.

All in all InFamous: Second Son is the best game released by Sony exclusive studio, Sucker Punch. Totally worth a 10/10 in my opinion.

What's left is a nice looking, competent action game that offers nothing more than 12 hours of "shooting a bunch of bad guys". A major disappointment in nearly every regard, it's confounding that Sucker Punch would dismantle the franchise in such an epic way. It's not "more of the same" inFamous, it's far, far, less of something vaguely similar. If you were a fan of the first 2 games, there is very little here to enjoy. I would wager that you're actually going to be heartbroken, much like I was.

The original InFamous still remains one of my favorite games in the genre. The free-running traversal of a beautifully crafted environment and emphasis on collection made exploring the environments a joy and worthwhile. It could (and should) be argued that the franchise was so much fun not just because of the "super powers" but because exploring the open world was a compelling experience. What Second Son offers is a graphically beautiful rendition of Seattle with absolutely no reason to explore it.

You won't be climbing up and jumping around buildings in fantastic displays of athleticism looking for treasures and leaping around town. This just isn't that game, that mechanic has been more or less completely omitted. You won't be facing a multitude of exciting and different enemies, there are only two types: Soldiers and drug dealers. Missions are repetitive, laborious and require a great deal of time running away from enemies to recharge instead of facing them head-on. Unlike the first two titles, finding recharge stations is much more difficult and frustrating.

What's left is a very average action game that offers no appeal other than the scenery which you'll have no reason to explore. Your enjoyment of the game will come down to what you liked about the original titles. If you weren't fond of the locomotion and collection aspects and simply had fun mindlessly shooting enemies with something other then bullets, you may well enjoy Second Son. If you valued the core gameplay mechanics of the first two titles and accompanying artistic direction, prepare for an unrivaled let down in every regard and another 4 year wait in hopes that Sucker Punch can restore some of what made the original such a joy.

I want to rate the game a 0 as I have no reason to spend time playing it and am, frankly, so very, very sad. However, I want to remain objective and rate the game accordingly. It's technically proficient, the voice acting is very good and the controls are solid. Average in every regard and a major let down for fans of the series.

It's starts out as a fun, interesting experience. But becomes highly repetitive and the game centers around copy and paste abilities and tiresome button mashing. Could have been better, if not for it's uncorrelated story and a lifeless city.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be honest with you, I haven't played the game yet. But I have seen multiple game walkthroughs of it on YouTube. I wasn't really pleased with the storyline even though the graphics and animations were beautiful. Even though there were subtle messages of discrimination in the game, it was heavily overshadowed by heavy violence. The attacks also are pretty repetitive(i.e. same shooting, ground pound, hovering, going up walls, etc. Even more frustrating was the fact that you can't even swim! The side missions were also pretty repetitive too to add to my frustration. The story was ludicrous for both Karmic plotlines, who goes up against the dictators just to save a family? The fact how Augustine still uses her Conduit abilities also confused the heck out of me, she would have been easily captured. The facial animations were also pretty awkward and unemotional in some cases.

Even though I support the fact Conduits shouldn't be labeled "Bio-Terrorists", I agree the same thing with the non-Conduits, I was angered at the fact the developers made the non-Conduits weak and helpless, just because they don't have "powers". My anger heats up with Reggie reduced from a big-time sheriff to a dude-in-distress, increased even more when Abigail Walker and Eugene Sims come in. Reggie is then used as emotional leverage to influence Delsin and the player's decisions, which cheeses me off! The game developers killed Reggie off even though Reggie should've been given a larger support role. I also hated the fact how Delsin "leaves Reggie for his own safety" and then... Delsin asks Eugene to help free the suspected Conduits even though Eugene has no formal combat training like Reggie and Abigail does. Pffft... Oh well, I'm looking forward to the sequel after I play and finish this game.

Voice cast produces a fantastic performance and gives the somewhat sketchy plot a right to life.

Only downside is that it's over too quickly, but alas

My first ps4 game and of course first infamous game!!! The game runs like butter! The graphic is outstanding (compared to xbox360, my sole last gen console). The story and the power, for someone never played infamous, is well-done and cool. I actually find the boss fight design is way above average, the music for the last boss fight is fantastic.

Loved how Seattle was the setting and the new story is built up fantastically. I really enjoyed Delsin's multiple powers and loved the free-flow feel of the gameplay. Great start to PS4 exclusive games and I can't wait for the next Sucker Punch production.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Second Son, truthfully probably deserves a 10. However it falls short of this because of one thing. The evil campaign, now hear me out here. Simply put the evil campaign just isn't what I and what I hope others were looking for in the sense there is no moral sympathy of an evil character in this game. Unlike Cole when playing as evil it was more of a twisted sense of justice rather then some weird evil of killing street performers for whatever reason. Additionally being evil doesn't really change the story much as spoiler your brother continues to aid you the entire time which feels weird. In the end playing the evil route just made me feel like some whiny baby rather than an anti-hero that I felt while playing as Cole in the previous inFamous games. Graphics, combat, and overall gameplay are great; so are the whitty lines and the good campaign which was rather impressive I think. So if you own a PS4 buy this game it'll be money worth spending. Not so in this one. Every character feels like they were put there because the formula of a story needed them there. Nobody feels real. Plot twists occur when they need to for the story but nothing seems to have any justification. And there aren't any rules to how the powers work. The game just uses cores from the old games without explanation and you're restricted from using powers at random when it serves the story. It has the depth of fan fiction.

Such a shame too, because the powers were way cool.

Infamous Second Son is a real pleasure to look at. I mean it is just beautiful. This and Killzone Shadow Fall are the best two looking games on PS4. Killzone Shadow Fall is still the king of graphics though and it's miles more fluid.

TECHNICAL PROBLEMS: I do notice a LOT of judder, being that the game isn't capped at 30 FPS, instead it goes from 30-45 from time to time causing a TERRIBLE stutter when running really fast and also moving the camera around really fast. It also has horrid looking texture pop-in, that also causes a stutter in the game. Personally I think it makes the game UNPLAYABLE. But I'm a PC gamer. But for those of you who don't mind gamebreaking stuttering and are used to playing crap console ports and don't mind(I know a lot of you won't see this cause you don't care about this), I'll continue my review like this doesn't exist.

The gameplay is fun. I think it's so much fun to run around with all these super powered and blast people apart, or save them. And the difficulty on "Normal" is JUST right I think. I heard at the last minute they increased it just a bit. So you don't feel too over powered in the game. But you do have to retreat to gain health every now and then and you will find yourself dying if you aren't really trying your best to retreat and regain health.

The game is also long enough to keep you engaged for quite a while. I've been playing since Tuesday and it's Thursday today and I am just a little past getting the second power out of the 4 powers you get. I've played about 4 hours per day for 2 days, so I'm 8 hours in and less than half way through. They say the game takes 10-15 hours to complete the story mode. But personally I can see this game taking me about 15 hours for full completion. And then I'll probably still roam around more or complete the "Evil" version of the game.

Now with such a great job they did creating the city, and Delsin, and his powers, I figured they'd have A LOT more to do in this game, but besides the story, and unlocking the city from DUP, there isn't hardly anything to do that's the least bit fun. It's not remotely close to GTAV as for things to do, you can tell this game only took 2 years to make and not 3-4. Hopefully Watch Dogs has a LOT more to do.

    Graphics 10/10
    Gameplay 7/10
    Storytelling 7/10
    Game Longevity 7/10
    Game Smoothness/Play ability 0/10

OVERALL: Infamous Second Son SHOULD be a solid 8/10 game, but because of technical issues that have NOTHING to do with my PS4 or the disc(I know because I returned my PS4 and the disk and it still happens), the game is pretty much unplayable, even Sucker Punch admits this problem but says it has to do with the engine and they can't fix it.

This being the second ps4 exclusive (killzone being #1), and arguably the first game some may consider buying the console for, I waited to review this one until I beat the game and had some time to reflect.

I usually feel let down by sandbox adventure games. aside from GTA, which set the precedent that base my opinions off of, most of them sound great in theory and have you daydreaming about the possibilities for awesomeness, and don't really deliver. Infamous actually surpassed my expectations, and really turned out to be a gem.

combat: this is what really shines. the powers are SO MUCH FUN. when you can find a game with combat so good, you go out of your way to look for non-progress related encounters just to experience the gameplay, you know you've got something special. the four different powers are each unique, and feel like their own skillset. i dont see the exact same skills with different colored spell effects, i see four entirely different skill trees, each bringing their own strengths to the table. each tier has its own method of travel, active skills, and passives. they use this as a sell point to the game, and rightfully so, the powers are damn cool.

story: involves your typical stuff; hero, villian, conflict, tragedy. the characters are voiced over nicely and you can connect with some of them, which will help keep you absorbed in the plot. i won't spoil anything, but it's a good time.

graphics: i dont normally list graphics as a bullet point in my reviews, as i would play a 2d side scroller if the game was good, but infamous: second son requires recognition for its beauty. i can confidently tell you, this is the nicest looking game i have ever played. ever. ever ever ever. the game takes place in a scale model of seattle, and the scenery is literally immaculate. coming from ps3 and 360, i was in the mindset of "how much better could it really get?". the first couple of launch games are all ports, and even killzone as nice as it looks, was only marginally better than what we already had. this is that first one that will blow your mind, the one you want to have in the disc tray when showing off your new system. spell effects, character models, and the world in general look superb.

cons: my only complaint is the length of the game. i picked this up the tuesday it released, and beat it on saturday of that week. i made it a point to take my time also. between the gorgeous graphics, the phenomenal gameplay, and the above average story line, i just wish it would have lasted longer. the good news is, our new main character cole left us off with plenty of questions to be answered; i think we will see him again for a sequel.

all in all, great game. whether you are an 8 year old girl or a 75 year old man, you're going to have a good time with this one. if you are debating on grabbing a ps4, go ahead and pick it up, because we have reached the point where next-gen is in in full swing. a legit catalog of titles are now available (including several exclusives- digital download and retail), there are quite a few blockbuster AAA titles on the immediate horizon, and the next-gen only titles have started to release. just make sure that you pick up infamous: second son to go along with your shiny, new console. it's worth buying the system for.

After a series of events, a wreck in your town leave the conduits, or bio terrorist depending on who you ask, freed and running for their lives. You character comes into contact with one of them and through some sort of hocus pocus becomes a conduit himself. images6Now with the ability of Smoke you will start to have fun toying with the different ways to use it. This only leads to problems for the young…hero?

This leads me to the next part of this game. The Karma system. Doing good and bad things can effect the game in different ways. Good guys get certain abilities later while the baddies do the same but in images2different ways. For me, after running through both ways, I feel the good was a little easier to stay alive while the evil made it easier to kill large groups. There are SO MANY ways to gain or lose karma. Everything from killing drug dealers (evil) to healing hurt civilians (good, duh) The one thing this didn’t effect… much to my surprise, was the story line. While there were tiny differences ( If you want to know what they were then play the game) but not enough to really make the game worth playing through twice… unless you are hunting trophies. Otherwise, just 100% on the path you choose. You won’t miss much.

One of my favorite things about this game was the choice in powers and the variety of abilities within said powers. The was three main powers (and fourth once you beat the game) to choose from. There’s Smoke, that yo u start with, Neon, and video. They all hXkyQdU1ave their advantages but once i got neon and especially video, i never used smoke again… until they made me.The wings of video (see right) made it super easy to travel through the large map! Neon was great for long distance and was a huge help when it came to upping your karma levels!images(see blow) Concrete is the last power and is fun but not easy to use. Just have fun finding all the different ways to kill the DUP’s!

Another fun and innovative add-on to the game was the graffiti art that you could do. They let you choose good or evil and you had to turn images3the controller sideways, shake it like a spray paint can, and then aim it while holding the trigger. It was fun and for some reason, never got old!

Over all the game was good, not great, but good. The story keep me wanting to play more…which is why I beat it so quick… it really doesn’t take long to beat but there is plenty to do after to get 100%. If it sounds like fun to you then chances are you will love it and play it till your passed out still holding the controller, for a day or two.

    So lets review:

    Pros:
    Great story
    awesome powers
    fun game play

    cons:
No difference in story line from good to evil
    No online play

So overall it was good… let’s say 8/10

And as always, This is Steps

This is a very good game but I would recommend renting over buying. Reason being that the game is relatively short, can be Platinumed in a little over a week, and there is no multiplayer component to speak of. The powers that you get are unique elements that you typically wouldn't think of, unlike the stereotypical/generic electric powers of the first 2 games.

The story is easy enough to follow. Nothing outlandish but not incredibly dull either. As far as character development, Delsin (the main character) is really the only one who undergoes significant change from beginning to end, which should be expected since the player can choose whether he becomes good or evil. The combat is smooth but somewhat repetitive. The boss fights are fun, though. Overall there are no glaring weaknesses in Second Son, but as I said it will be collecting dust on your shelf from lack of use just a few weeks after buying it. RENT!

Well here is Infamous: Second Son. Infamous: Second Son is special as it was supposed to be the game that would sell the PS4 similar to how Titanfall was supposed to sell the XBO. These games were hype to hell. Titanfall while fun missed some basic FPS needs, probably brought by the developers inexperiance. If I reviewed it, it would pro...bably get a 7/10. What about Infamous: Second Son?Well here is Infamous: Second Son. Titanfall while fun missed some basic FPS needs, probably brought by the developers inexperiance. If I reviewed it, it would pro...bably get a 7/10. What about Infamous: Second Son? I mean it's developed by Sucker Punch who made the previous installments and the Sly Cooper series, so you think with this, the game would top of the line, right? Unfortunately no. This game is a huge dissapointment. First I have to talk about the story, It is pretty boring. It amounts to: Character gets powers(conduit); Character is attacked by military against powers(D.U.P.) who attack his people(who will die); Character recruits others with powers; Character finds main boss and beats her. Thats it. It's a shame too, because the actual characters are actually interesting. They develop and have outstanding and even dark backstories. With special mention going to Fetch. She's a former junkie whose parents sold her out to the D.U.P, but she is saved by her brother, they seek refuge from drug dealers and become addicts. Her addiction causes her to kill her brother by accident and as vengence she kills drug dealers. That's good stuff, but if the story is bland than good characters can't save it. With that said the Moral system returns, but again it isn't interesting. In the last game your choices have big impacts, here it seems so small a detail. And the endings are barely different, so causes you to wonder if you should play again. Plus being evil actively contradicts the story and of what Delsin(the main character) is trying to accomplish **** up the story as a whole. I swear by the end I was saying wtf? With that said the Graphics are pretty good and the world is detailed though there is a moment where I got shot into a building(you can't go into buildings) and got stuck because of a glitch. Though this is the only one I found in the game. But of course what matters is the gameplay. So, how is it? First returning is the fact that you absorb material to attain empowerment. What I really like are the powers. In previous games the powers, while fun, were also generic. Here the powers are pretty inventive. By the end you will have Smoke, Neon, Concrete and my favorite Video. These can be upgraded by collecting blast shards and what you get adds tons of fun, because you get certain abilities depending on your Karma(whether it be good or evil). With these you can develop your own style of gamplay. There is also stuff to do in order to increase your karma. Spray-painting, freeing people and drug bust increase good karma and killing civillians of any kind increases bad karma. The main goal aside from completing the story is driving the D.U.P. from the city. This is accomplished by beating up D.U.P, destroying their equipment and taking over their zones. Now reviewers will say the combat isn't that good and I disagree. With all the ways to take down enemies it makes battles versitile. However the problem is the enemies themselves. There isn't a huge veriety in the enemies which means there isn't a need to change your strategy much. The Boss fights are a huge Dissapointment. They aren't even the least be creative or fun. What happened to an awesome boss like Kessler? Augustine is a poor replacement. Hell, the most creative "He Who Dwells", is also the most annoying. Fortunately you won't have to worry about enemies for too long as the main storyline is only five hours long. you could do tjhe other Karma and double it but come on that is short for a next-gen sandbox game. With all this I stand by what I think. This game isn't bad, but with all that hype, it's dissapointing. So this game is pretty much like Titanfall and will have a score of 7/10. This game had a lot of good things going for it, but fell short. It needed a better story and enemies to complement the cool powers. I would try it, but only as a rental. Expand

This was the first game I played on the new gen and I did buy the ps4 with this game in mind and I honestly could have waited until more games came out for me to enjoy. The town is not as big as previous games. The people walking are detailed but more than often I would see about 4 of the same in one small area. The game is beautiful. So detailed and stunning to look at. The story is ok. The side quests are actually where I had more fun. I thought Fetch was a great character...I would have enjoyed her as the main player! She had a really interesting back story! Replay value...yeah maybe once but only to get trophies! I am quite easy to please and I was a bit disappointed with this. Expand

While it's a solid 8, it could be higher. This is mainly due to the so-so story, repetitive objectives, and crude execution of the classic inFAMOUS morality questions of becoming good or evil. I'm guessing the developers didn't have enough time for variety of objectives or finer tuned morality leveling. What they did have time for, however, was excellently developed and implemented.

I'm afraid I was slightly disappointed in this game. Ultimately, it wasn't something special and didn't feel that next gen. It didn't have real time day/night cycles and you were unable to swim in its world. It's small things, but they just take you away from the experience. Slightly underrated, this is the first great game of the PS4. Technically, it's the best thing that exists right now. It is superior to both Shadow Fall and Ryse. Because of the open world and of the unbelievable art SP has created.

As an inFamous game, it lacks some of the missions variety (or side missions) from the previous games and also is quite shorter. On the other side, this time you have 4 sets of powers. Some say, that the other 3, beside the smoke, which is the first, are useless, but I have been using all of them almost equally (except from the last which comes almost at the end). Each action you want to take makes better use for one of them.

Also the pace is great this time with each power being presented perfectly fitting the laid-back attitude of the whole game. The music is stylish and sets the mood as does the weather and the atmosphere colors.

This is a great game, the best of the PS4 right now, the best of the inFamous series, the best visually right now. I had my complaints for its gameplay, but I had much fun and most importantly I felt the next gen leap. The controller gimmicks, the stunning graphics (with all the new tech), the more coherent inFamous world... all of those made me feel that next-gen feeling.

The only reason I gave it a nine was lack of a "New Game+" mode like other Infamous Titles had before this. Why this was ommited from the game remains to be seen, and it affects replay value quite a bit.

The developers tried to use the new features of the Dualshock 4 to give the player more immersion, like using the controller as a spray can and using your fingertip to identify yourself at checkpoints. The game is running smoothly and I've noticed only a few framedrops when the action got a little bit too crazy. but nothing to be alarmed by.

In inFamous Second Son you play as Delsin, an unlikable guy who gets superpowers by touching other "conduits" (that's people with superpowers). There are 4 powers to be gained throughout the story, each with some unique abilities. However, these unique abilities are not enough to keep things fresh and you'll soon stick to your favourite power. The game sometimes forces you to use a specific power to proceed, but mostly you can choose which power you want to use. It's is fun to mix things up, but you can't combine powers for different combo's as you'll need to find a power source to change powers.

The story is paperthin and the main character is an unlikable dickhead. The gameplay makes up for a lot, but it does get repetitive. The story isn't that long either and it'll be over before you know it. You can play the game again making different choices, but it doesn't chance the experience that much.

As one of Sony's flagship franchices I expected a bit more. Second Son plays it by the book and delivers a polished game, but it doesn't really do anything new and it doesn't set the bar for years to come. At a price point of $69,99 I wouldn't pick it up a second time. Get it once it's cheaper or wait for it on PlayStation Plus.

Feel I wasted my money on this, so boring.
