    Unforgettable gaming experience.

A really great and unique game.
I played this game when it came out over 7 years ago, and still remember the fun I had whilst playing it.
I really can't think of anything negative to say about this game.

That's why I definitely recommend you to play this game, if you haven't already.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My first ps4 game was technically amazing for me back then. I still consider it to be one of my favorite games mainly because of the sentiment when it comes to the story, I can admit that Infamous 1 and 2 were better structured but it is still an amazing game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played this game in 2022. I may say it managed to surpass my expectations.

I was drawn to this game by graphics which look stunning even by today standards. Rain-soaked, neon-lit Seattle is very detailed and believable. People in the streets behave realistically, there are many cars with some driving AI (which tends to be a great deal since Cyberpunk fail).
I was impressed by the story. It's surprisingly emotional, you naturally feel sympathy for the convict who tries to reunite with his daughter, drug addict who takes revenge for her brother's death or bullied gamer who seeks acceptance and satisfaction in video games. Chemistry between Rowe brother is also strong suit of the game.
Where game partially fails is gameplay. It might seem a bit repetitive and tedious. Throughout the entire playthrough I had an impression that Delsin is a weak superhero. The game doesn't allow you to increase his health so oftentimes you find yourself running away from battlefield amidst plethora of projectiles hitting you with pinpoint accuracy. One way to deal with it is to abuse the karmic superattack but it seems a bit cheesy. While you are eventually gonna have four types of super-powers they all feel very similar in how you use them.
Overall it's a strong 8,5 game but the inclusion of Nirvana tips the scale somewhat so I gave it score of 9. It's a hidden gem in Playstation library.

This game has become a PS4 classic for a reason. The game is fun to play and easy to navigate. The choice of good and evil paths make the game easily replayable, with both endings being satisfying. Getting the game to 100% fairly accessible and easy, highly recommended.

Great game with great combat, even after playing through the game its fun to just turn it on and try out different combat styles. Story was average. Also the good and bad karma point system is nice, the good karma being harder to get level 5 than the bad one ibviously. But enjoyable playing through with both bad and good karma.

inFAMOUS: Second Son is a blend of great combat, amazing storytelling, and unforgettable characters. It might be the best superhero/villain game I've ever played.

Lets talk about the combat and parkour. Combat is fluid, and each power has separate traits and weaknesses. Smoke is the most balanced, ranging from moderate hit speed and moderate damage. Neon has faster attack speed but deals less damage. Video has slower attack speed, but deals more damage, and concrete has slower attack speed but kills standard enemies in one shot. Parkour is also fun, and I find myself jumping from building to building to be incredibly satisfying. However, video and concrete are the only two powers I deem to be useless in parkour, since video has wings that you can fly up walls with, but the can't be upgraded to last as long as you want, and concrete, you can hover off the ground, but you also can't upgrade it to last as long as you want. Which is unfortunate, because concrete is the last power you get, and it should be a good one.

Well, what about the story and characters? Story is great, characters are likeable, especially Delsin and Reggie, and the main antagonist, Augustine, is understandable, and you can (kind of) get behind why she does what she does. Other character like Fetch and Eugene are great additions too. You play as Delsin throughout the game, and the game seems to adopt this kind of "choose your path" gameplay, which is really cool. But if you chose the evil side, it wouldn't really make much sense. See, the game doesn't give any suggestion that Delsin is the type of guy to kill a bunch of civilians and be fine with it. At the beginning of the game, he seems like a really nice guy, who cares for his people, and will save anyone in trouble. Killing civilians seems out of pocket for a character like Delsin, he doesn't have any backstory that suggest why he would do these things.

Lastly is the world. Seattle, Washington is a beautiful and vibrant world, and the day-night cycle adds a type of uniqueness to it. There's much to do in the world, but it's not too much to the point where it feels overwhelming. There are several districts you can conquer and clear out, so if you've finished the campaign, you have things to do after the game ends. Enemies are fairly balanced, and none of them feel over-powered (maybe the turrets on Expert difficulty). Boss fights are great, balanced, and fluid, and enemy variety is introduced perfectly. The world is never empty, and civilians allow the world to feel alive.

In conclusion, inFAMOUS: Second Son is an incredible "choose your path" game. Even though the evil karma side is awkward to play on, and video and concrete feel bad to use for parkour, excellent combat, great characters, and the bright and colorful world of Seattle are what make this game great.

An Unsung Hero - A Review of Infamous Second Son

Infamous Second Son is a title that, for some inexplicable reason, has been relegated to the shadows of the gaming world. It's a game that I firmly believe deserves a spot in the limelight, and I'm here to tell you why.

Starting off, the action in Infamous Second Son is nothing short of electric. The combat is fluid, and the powers and abilities that you can harness are immensely satisfying to wield. From fiery explosions to graceful aerial maneuvers, the game offers a thrilling and engaging experience that never lets up.

The graphics are another high point. Even years after its release, Infamous Second Son continues to impress with its detailed environments and lifelike character models. The vibrant city of Seattle is rendered with meticulous care, and the visual effects tied to the various powers are stunning.

But where the game truly shines is in its story and, specifically, the relationship between the two main characters, who happen to be brothers. This dynamic is so well-crafted, so believable, and so emotionally resonant that it had me shedding tears at one point — something very few video games have achieved. The story unfolds with careful pacing, and the plot twists are both unexpected and fitting.

The relationship between the two brothers is not only well-written but beautifully acted as well. The dialogue is realistic, and the emotions conveyed are palpable. The writers and actors succeeded in creating a bond that feels genuine and powerful, drawing the player into the narrative in a deeply personal way.

Overall, Infamous Second Son is a game that's criminally underrated. It's a well-rounded experience that delivers on all fronts. Whether you're a fan of action-packed gameplay, stunning visuals, or storytelling that touches the heart, this game has something for you.

In an industry where so many titles get lost in the shuffle, Infamous Second Son stands out as a gem that shouldn't be overlooked. If you haven't had the pleasure of playing it yet, do yourself a favor and dive into this extraordinary adventure. You owe it to yourself to experience it at least once. Trust me; it's a journey you won't regret.

    Some spoilers within.
Ok, so this isn't really a "review" exactly, more like "good news, bad news"

First the good. Graphics are, of course, amazing. Especially Neon powers. Absolutely gorgeous.
I've heard complaints about the story, characters, and plot. Honestly, yes it's not perfect, but no game is. I really connected with Delsin and got into his head.
The powers.... oh man the powers are, to use Delsin's words, The powers are awesome! Love them.
And the destruction is fantastic. I love going around and tearing down what the D.U.P. has put up.
The city... again I've heard complaints that it didn't feel alive. I can't understand that though, I love how the city interacts with you. How the citizens will stop and take pictures of out of the ordinary things. How they'll run away when things happen. And other such things. Felt really alive to me.

    Ok, the downsides....
First... too damn short. More a nitpick than a complaint, but it really was too short.
The powers.... while they were really awesome, seriously awesome. I was/am disappointed that you couldn't switch powers on the fly. I also would've liked a bit more variability in the powers.
    and the biggest "complaint"
The last power you get, concrete, isn't fully fleshed out. I know it's basically a post game power, but they still should've filled in the last slots anyway.

The story was good, a slight disappointment to say the least. The characters were quite forgettable to be honest except for Delsin and Reggie. The gameplay was smooth and the powers were interesting. However I feel Sucker Punch are starting to lose the rag with some super powers in the universe of Infamous they created. First of all, the story is simply too short, and you'll see the ending coming from far, far away. The 4 powers (Smoke, Neon, Video and Concrete) are very cool, when I got Video I was blown away that SuckerPunch managed to somehow turn that into a power. However, Concrete really isn't good enough. Also, the game really lacks in the post-story content. When you've all of it there's nothing to do besides the repeating D.U.P. raids. However, the voice acting is simply brilliant! Troy Baker did an outstanding job as Delsin, just like all other actors and their characters. Graphics are also brilliant for an open world game so early in the generation. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh, Second Son, how you toy with me. I have a love hate relation with the game. On one hand, it is the best looking game on consoles, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if screen caps are confused with images from high-end gaming PCs. On the other, the story was very meh. It's not as grandiose as the previous two (or even three, if you count Festival of Blood) games. That's not to say it's bad, but the story could have been boiled down to a few missions, making room for a much more inFAMOUSy story. Anyway, let me just write down some, uh, "bullet-points", sans bullets. The characters were good, but of the five or so supporting characters only one was fleshed out much, but even then, it wasn't enough to make me care much when that character died. Double spoilers, it's Reggie. Abigail "Fetch" Walker held a lot of promise; she lived on the streets of Seattle with her brother, and both were "taken in" by a gang of drug dealers. They both got addicted, she killed her brother using her neon powers while in a drug-fueled rage and decides to take out her anger on the drug dealers that use Seattle as their stomping grounds. Good, dark back story that is not yet a cliche, but will be soon, thanks to Breaking Bad. Sucker Punch had a chance to use this character and make her great, but they didn't. A few "drug busts" later and you don't see her again until the end of the game. Another side character was Eugene Sims. He could have been good too, a withdrawn kid who discovers he has powers a year after his mother, a senator, votes to give money to the DUP. Harsh, and could have had good family dynamic issues... But no. Sucker Punch makes him a gamer, and a very typical, weird, virgin-type gamer... Which makes you wonder, does Sucker Punch not realize that this is the person that their game is supposed to appeal to? Good job alienating the people who adore you.

Now, the dialogue, on the other hand, was fantastic. Every character felt believable in the moment, and the voice acting at its WORST was good, and throughout the game peaked at an 11.

Content... Now here is where the game was really polarizing. The (story) missions were really good, and they all had about the perfect length. Switching to the other foot, the side missions were terrible. Every "district" had the same missions, cut and paste, verbatim, over and over again. (Get the point?) The side missions were things like "look at this picture, find the person in the crowd, then subdue/kill them before they escape." That would have been fun maybe three or four times. After the twelfth time, it was just ridiculous. There was of course the two side mission sets that were more "story" oriented. These were Cole's Legacy (available with only the Limited and Collector's editions) and Paper Trail, which tried something new by letting you look at evidence on your computer to decipher clues about the crimes that had taken place. Nice idea, but I got sick of it after getting off my PS4 and onto my PC two or three times. Too bad it makes you do it six times in order to get... Not a new, awesome paper power, but a paper bunny mask. Yay.

The atmosphere was at its best near the beginning of the game when it was dusk and very foggy. After that, the city felt dead. Sure, there were people walking around who would occasionally take pictures of you and say things... But there were very few ambient sounds, and the cars are the same Hotwheels that drive in a perfectly straight line and don't dynamically alter their paths to go around obstacles, and the drivers never get out of the vehicles, taking everything in stride.

Gameplay was kind of hit or miss. (Skip this next part if you know what I am talking about.) In the first two games, X was jump. And only jump. This allowed to press X multiple times to scamper up walls to the next handhold. Second Son turns the X button into the glide button as soon as you're in the air, so when climbing buildings, if you press X multiple times, you'll just glide in place. They "balanced" this by making Delsin (the main character) scamper up walls already with a single press of the X button, but this just makes timing awkward. X, wait, X, wait, X; rather than XXXXXXXXXXX. Bad move. The reason they did this (the glide was originally on R1) was so they could use all of the shoulder buttons for different attacks. R1 is heavy missile type attack, R2 is normal gun type of attack, L1 is special, like grenade or invisibility, and L2 is zoom (for those really difficulty moments when you need the FOV to be 85 instead of 90. The Circle button used to be for cover, but now it does dash. This means, obviously, NO COVER. It also makes things awkward when you try to drop down from a ledge, because the Square button is drop...

Some redeeming factors... Camera mode. That's about it.

OK, the game's good, but it's just not as good as the first two (or three...). Something that would have made the game better... UGC. Yep, I said it.

This is the great first Playstation 4 game with hard graphics. Very beautiful visuals with really spectacular moments, interesting storyline and very enjoining and great sensation of freedom. I like it so much.

Best Infamous yet...but Sucker Punch needs to get out of their comfort zone and let the series grow. What we do have is a very pretty, very fun, but "safe" entry into the series. Good stuff, though.

PS: Metacritic opinions, both professional and otherwise, should be taken with a grain of salt--as should all critics and/or fans.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've finally got myself a PS4 and inFamous Second Son is obviously my first game on the new console, as I'm a fan of the series since the first installment. Since I'm a bit late for the party, I'll keep it to the point, in the pros-cons style.
    Strengths:
    - Graphics. They're awesome, the console generation leap is noticeable here.
    - Brothers. The only well-written aspect of the plot, Delsin and Reggie are kinda relatable and I could empathize with them.
    - Powers. They're original (really, there's no other game where you can control neon, or video, or concrete) and deadly and mostly useful, although lack of a simple grenade is a bit disappointing.
    Weaknesses:
    - Plot. The characters are mostly poorly written with little development. (For instance, you fight Fetch in one mission, BAM you're best friends in the next one, and BAM you bang her in the third one. Well, that was fast.) I hated Eugene in particular, he's a super-stereotyped nerd whom I hated and his boss fight was the worst designed one, all those angels and **** ugh.
    - Pacing. The storyline is very short and Seattle isn't very big, it took me around 16 hours to complete the game with ALL of the side missions, 100%. Besides, the last power, concrete, is given to you only in the last story mission, so you can't really use it anywhere but in clearing out the few remaining districts.
    - Karma. As before, here you don't get to choose between good and evil during your playthrough, but BEFORE it, as opposite karma-based missions are actually locked out this time. So even though I, whilst playing hero, was really mad at Augustine, I just couldn't choose the option to kill her. I'll do an infamous playthrough for that, of course, but still.
    - Continuation. Or the lack of it. I mean, there is little to no connection to the events of the first two parts, except for some lame paid DLC, this is ridiculous. As a fan of the series, I'm disappointed.
To sum up, SS mostly keeps up with its predecessors, the gameplay and graphics are stellar, but the plot and pacing have their issues. Not a system-seller, but definitely should be on your list when you've got the PS4.

Being new to the franchise I can't judge how inFamous relates to it's predecessors. I can, however, give a verdict based on it as a stand-alone game.

Right of the bat inFamous: Second Son is gorgeous. Considering the quality of the character models and how far graphics progressed on the PS3 and XBOX 360 it's safe to say that consoles are of to a great start.

The game was available at the launch of PS4 and in many aspects it seem to serve as sort a tech demo. It features a lot of cool new... uh... features. It extensively integrates the speaker on the controller, the touchpad and in some elements you get to turn the controller sideways and use it as an improvised spray can. Luckily most of these doesn't seem awfully contrived or forced and just give an extra layer of interaction.

The story in itself isn't groundbreaking and nor is the narrative. For those who have played other sandbox games it's actually a little bit too familiar. Just like Prototype and nearly all of the recent Spider-Man games it's an open world cityscape being occupied by an invading or peace-keeping force. It's generic but inFamous manages to keep it's ideas fresh at least. Especially the powers at hand feel like a step-up from the bland mechanics of other games in the genre. However, and I may be nitpicking, they do feel like they're forcibly rewritten. The first powers you get are called smoke but the effects involved seems awfully fire-like. The main antagonist is sporting a concrete power. Here concrete just seems like some attempt at making an earth-like power without naming it so. But then we have the colorful neon and video powers making up for it all.

There's also a lack of real defense mechanism in the game. You main key to survival is positioning, movement and having good enough aim to take down enemies before they take down you. Considering the game doesn't provide you with the most obvious indicators of incoming attacks there's a fair bit of trial and error. At least the first time around. My second play-through felt a lot easier once I gotten the hang of all the different encounters.

Basically, once you get the hang of the combat it's all down to you. It may be frustrating at times to be overrun by enemies without any proper ways to counter the barrage of attacks. Too many games to day just let you press Counter or Block and be done with it. But my immediate impression is that most of the time you're not really fighting a boss battle but rather trying to battle the game mechanics. The Arkham-franchise may be overly simplistic but it sure makes you feel like The Dark Knight making short work of villains. Not saying there's not moments where you feel powerful but it feels a bit degrading being forced to cover through boss fights or having to repeat large sections of a boss fight when you fail right at the finish line because you got a bit too eager or accidentally hit an obstacle on your way to cover.

Still, for all it's worth, inFamous: Second Son is a good game. It's fun to explore and toy with your powers, despite it's formulaic approach it's rescued by it's integrity. It's a solid production, great voice acting and interesting characters. It would have been fun to see a bit more though and some serious attempts at breaking the status quo regarding superhero sandbox games. Until we get to see some truly innovative takes on superheroes in games inFamous: Second Son is probably the best we get.

This games great visuals and sound design take center stage here. In short they are amazing. The gameplay is tried and true, and there's nothing wrong with that. The only major complaint I have with the game is that as you get later into the game, you'll notice very little variety in the mission structure or side quests. Still, this is a great game that every PS4 owner should look into.

One of them was overpowered main protagonist. InFamous is a carbon copy. We also have overpowered main protagonist and a bit silly narrative. You can be good or you can be bad, the choice is yours. In fact, this prolongs gameplay after you finish main story. It has no difference if you use your power for good or for bad. All superpowers are basically the same: quick and deadly. No matter which power you set active , it will always kill your enemies in most spectacular way. It is great to see a sequel that sheds many of flaws of the original two games and even gains a new perspective through protagonists and powers without fully forgetting where the series has come from and how far it has gone already. I’ve been particularly happy with the Infamous series over the years, and this game was definitely one of the better ones in my honest opinion. Not only did it look wonderful but the controls felt tight and the overall aesthetics were pleasing and impressive through and through. I loved the choices presented to players as well as the options in response, coupled with the narrative itself and the vivid characters. Truly a wonderful start for the next generation, and a graphical masterpiece in both setting and particle effects in explosions, fires, and powers.

Concept: Explore a realistic setting in a possible future as a super powered conduit named Delsin Rowe, battling the oppressive DUP and fighting for freedom and equality.

Graphics: It’s the little things and the attention to detail that really make the experience, but the excellent animation work pulls it off as well.

Sound: The soundtrack and voice work are both excellent, although the soundtrack pulls the experience along better than the one-liners and humor do.

Playability: Not only is it fun and enjoyable, but highly usable and playable to boot. The makings of an excellent experience if there are any.

Entertainment: Highly entertaining as an adventure and as a story go, for not the first or second, but the third time in a row.

    Replay Value: Moderate.

    Overall Score: 8.25

With this new protagonist, we players can relate much more to the inFamous universe. Very well done. The A.I. isn't as weak as the first two. Similar, but improved. Second Son is a strong, but imperfect, PS4 debut of the Infamous franchise.

Where the series has excelled before, Infamous continues to impress, with large-scale battles between superhuman characters across beautifully detailed cities. The visuals of Second Son are surprisingly advanced from the first two Infamous games on PS3, and are arguably the best yet out of any PS4 game. The depth of the particle effects are obvious from as soon as you use your first superpower of smoke, and continue to amaze with each following superpower unlock.

The powers themselves are a mixed bag. They're fun to use in combat situations, are very visually impressive, and thematically diverse (without going into heavily spoilery content, the second elemental power you unlock is the ability to weaponize neon lights found across the city). They are not, however, particularly diverse in terms of their uses in actual gameplay, which is a minor setback that stifles the novelty of each power.

Second Son features a morality system, similar to that of games like Mass Effect, in which there are certain points in the story where you can make black-or-white choices that are explicitly good or evil, and influence the outcome of the story. This translates to gameplay as well; if you chose to be Good, you could evolve your powers to be more precise so as to non-lethally neutralize enemies, whereas if you chose to be Evil, you could gain more powerful but reckless attacks that would endanger surrounding citizens. Playing through the game twice, once with each morality path in mind, can be especially rewarding, and allows you to experience two vastly different gameplay styles and stories.

Unfortunately, Second Son's weakest link is its narrative and characters. The plot doesn't really avoid common storytelling tropes that we've all come to recognize in video games, and while the Good/Evil stories are nice in concept, they're often quite predictable. The motion/voice capture used to create the game's stunningly detailed cutscenes is impressive, and the performance of Troy Baker, playing the game's protagonist, is particularly outstanding, but the writing doesn't truly shine until the game's latter half or so. Most of the minor characters are forgettable, and tend to be of far less significance than Delsin after their debut.

    In short:
Pros - probably the best visuals out of any PS4 game; almost a complete absence of bugs/glitches; superpowers are consistently fun to play with; interesting Good/Evil dynamic.
Cons - story is rather predictable; powers aren't as diverse as they initially seem to be; any character whose name isn't Delsin Rowe and doesn't wear a beanie is forgettable.

The series has given players a chose in their own morality; something no superhero game has done before. Instead of playing the role of the typical good guy, the player can choose how to handle every situation. Most superhero games have leaned over the subject and simply focused on the players having fun, all power, no responsibility. Infamous never grazed over that. Every action the player takes will have backlash. This hasn’t changed in Infamous Second Son.

Set seven years after Infamous 2, Second Son follows a new protagonist, Delsin Rowe. Living as a carefree graffiti artist, Delsin constantly gets into mischief as he tries to spread his art to the world much to the annoyance of his brother, Reggie, a state police officer. One day, the brother’s lives take a turn for the worst as a truck containing three conduits crash near their Akomish tribe. In this moment, Delsin comes into contact with a conduit and discovers he can siphon their powers to use as his own. This sets Delsin apart from the series’ previous protagonist, Cole, in a big way: Delsin gains new powers as the game progresses and is not limited to one. Within this opening moment, Delsin is also hit with a bombshell of a choice involving the people in his life. The choice is left up to the player and determines Delsin’s path to becoming a hero or a villain, creating the backbone for the story to come.

After this, the game transitions into the same game fans are familiar with. As Delsin steps further down his path, he will encounter the likes of different conduits, gaining new abilities. The further you get within the game, the more of a weapon wheel Delsin becomes. From various powers such as smoke and neon, the powers are unique and very creative. I would’ve never thought smoke could be used so effective until Delsin has it within his grasp. When Delsin phases into a cloud of smoke and passes through a ground vent leading to the roof of a building, gaining a sniping advantage at the D.U.P.s below, you feel powerful, you feel in control. All of the powers are fun to use and have their own unique play style, from the smoke’s shotgun like blasts to the neon’s super speed.

You are limited to one power at a time, however. You can swap powers by draining from an appropriate source, such as a smoke stalk or a neon sign. This can prove annoying in the heat of battle since some sources are more common than others. There will be times where you want to keep sniping them with smoke pellets but have to swap to neon since there are no smoke stalks close to the action. This will come to a more common effect later in the game when more abilities open up to the player.

The combat is still as fun as ever. Delsin controls the chaos with his wide variety of attacks and movements. Chaining together smoke grenades that stun the enemies, while quickly dashing into a vent for an aerial comet drop is as satisfying as ever. Conflicts also showcase high levels of environment destruction. If a sniper is making you feel anxious during conflict, you can quickly send a rocket hurtling towards their tower and watch as their perch crashes down onto his allies. Car’s explode, D.U.P. walls crash around them, bodies ragdoll, and ash flows through the air with beautiful particle effects. This is the battlefields that take place within Seattle, all without a single hiccup in the frame rate.

Sucker Punch succeeds once again at creating a beautiful world to explore in. Seattle is full of life as you run around the occupied city. Neon signs reflect of the wet streets and rain drops leave ripples as they land on puddles. Each building has high qualities of detail and creates excellent points of view. There are several times during a play through where you can stop in awe as the sun touches the city in a beautifully rendered sunrise.

The story clicks as Delsin attempts to weaken the DUP and the action is fun and engaging, but Infamous Second Son isn’t without flaws.

The missions outside of the main campaign are small and varied. These missions range from destroying DUP mobile units, destroying cameras, uncovering secret agents, spraying buildings with graffiti, and finding audio files. All of these missions can be completed within minutes, even seconds, and are fully displayed on the map. With the lack of variety in missions, side activities felt repetitive quickly and leaves the experience feeling empty overall. The plus side to completing these missions however is more shards as well as new vests for Delsin to wear. More shards lead to new upgrade paths, leading to a more powerful Delsin.

Another issue I had with the side activities were the lack of karma based missions as the previous games had. The karma missions in the previous games were unique and always different than the next, some of the best missions within the game. With such a strong experience, it’s surprising not to see such a big part returning to Second Son. This wouldn’t be such a big flaw if the karma choses within the story weren’t lacking as well. There is only a few throughout the campaign, leaving fans of the mortality system with a hollow experience. All of the karma is mostly based off your actions within Seattle such as stopping drug deals and silencing activists. Karma is still a big role but doesn’t fill the shoes that Infamous 2 established before it.

Overall, Infamous Second Son is still the same game you’ve enjoyed in the last generation. It’s still fun to explore the city and fight dastardly villains, but its lack of variety in karma and side activities leave players wanting more in their experience. Its presentation is excellent, its gameplay is fun and unique, and its story is engaging. Infamous Second Son is a game that shouldn’t be left out in any PS4 owner’s library.

inFamous: Second Son is a true demonstration of the power of the Playstation 4. The game looks amazing, and the gameplay is fluid. The story is intriguing, yet the side missions feel repetitive. The choice system involving good/evil is never fully expressed, either. Cole's Legacy is a nice diversion, although somewhat pointless. Finally, the Paper Trail dlc is just downright terrible.

Visually this game is stunning, the powers, the town, and the animations (especially the facial ones) are all incredible. Gameplay wise the controls are smooth and responsive and Sucker Punch actually did a decent job of making use of some of the dualshock controllers unique features without making it feel too gimmicky. The additon of "hipfire" makes the combat much more fluid and helps add movement and flow to the combat. And the powers do feel unique from each other and none of them are overpowered enough to make the others obsolete. However there are some things that keep this game from being any higher than a solid 8-8.5/10. First of all, the enemy AI occasionly bugs out at close range and just stops for a bit, nothing too bad and it will probably be patched later on but still kinda detracts from the action. Second, even halfway through the game and there is still only one enemy faction which does make the fights a bit stale but this somewhat countered by the relatively diverse number of enemies in this one faction. Third, the objectives do get somewhat repetitive when you're clearing the districts but this will only bother people who want to 100% the game. Overall one of (if not the best) game on PS4 at the moment and I would highly recommend it to series veterans (like myself) or to people new to franchise that are curious. And newcomers don't worry the previous games stories don't play a huge role in this game so you can get by with just a brief summary of the game's lore. Expand

I have been anticipating this game ever since it was announced. Is it a great game? Yes. But it doesn't live up to the previous games. In my opinion InFamous is the best in the series. The order goes InFamous, InFamous 2, InFamous Second Son.

I have been anticipating this game ever since it was announced. Is it a great game? Yes. But it doesn't live up to the previous games. In my opinion InFamous is the best in the series. The order goes InFamous, InFamous 2, InFamous Second Son.

    Graphics: 7/10

Right off the bat, InFamous Second Son looks great. It is certainly not the best the game on PS4, but it does look nice. The cutscenes look amazing and everything runs at a smooth pace; however, I am disappointed that the game gave up its comic book look. The effects look nice and lip synching is mostly on. Graphically the game is great, but not astounding.

    Story: 6/10

Here is where InFamous Second Sons falters the most. In InFamous and InFamous 2, humanity was at stake. In InFamous Second Son only a small group of people were really at stake. It kind of beats you over the head with the whole "equality message" to the point of being annoying. I really enjoyed the more human elements of the story and Delsin is a great protagonist. He is funny, witty, and very likable. Delsin kind of reminds me of Deadpool. His brother is caring and has a strong sense of justice. The villain is a cartoonishly evil women, but at the end they paint her in a more sympathetic light. I cared about Delsin and his quest to save his tribe, but little else. This, however, led me to dread playing the evil version. Playing the evil version always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. However, aside from a few cases of who lives and who dies, there is really no difference in the story. It seems like Sucker Punch didn't want to do an evil version, but were stuck with it. Delsin just becomes unlikable. If you choose not to play through the evil version, no one will blame you.

    Side Activities: 7/10

I was sorely disappointed in the side mission, because there are none. In InFamous, you expanded your zone of control by doing a number of side missions. Collectables now run the show. However, collectables are still fun. My favorite is the spray painting one. It is creative and fun. I always wanted to do them and completed them, even if I didn't need to. Most side activities won't keep you unless you are a completionist which I am.

    Gameplay: 9/10

This is where the game shines the brightest. It has taken the gameplay of the previous games and innovated them. Smoke is the most similar to lighting of previous games. Neon is my favorite, it is like an up close sniper rifle and lets you move really fast, which is really handy for collectables. Video was disappointing and rarely used it. It uses a semi-automatic stream of projectiles, and it allows you to glide up buildings and in the air. Concrete was also fun, but you get it at the end, so you rarely use it. Concrete is like a machine gun and allows powerful movement, but limites jumping capability. The variety of powers is extremely fun and keeps you hunting for shards to increase your power. The melee has improved, but feels light and floaty. If there are future InFamous games, I hope with see more of Delsin and more varieties of power.

    Final Verdict: 8.5/10

I have recently adopted a .5 scale, except for a few circumstances. I wasn't sure if I wanted to give it a 9/10 or an 8/10. An 8 felt low, but I wasn't sure if the game deserves a 9/10. In the end I decided that if I had to struggle to give a game a 9, then it doesn't deserve a 9. The final verdict is an 8/10. It is great and a must own for PS4 owners. However, I still say InFamous is the best in the series. This game proves story does matter. I know I sound disappointed, but I had a great time while playing it.

The powers that you get are unique elements that you typically wouldn't think of, unlike the stereotypical/generic electric powers of the first 2 games.

The story is easy enough to follow. Nothing outlandish but not incredibly dull either. As far as character development, Delsin (the main character) is really the only one who undergoes significant change from beginning to end, which should be expected since the player can choose whether he becomes good or evil. The combat is smooth but somewhat repetitive. The boss fights are fun, though. Overall there are no glaring weaknesses in Second Son, but as I said it will be collecting dust on your shelf from lack of use just a few weeks after buying it. RENT!

I wasn't really pleased with the storyline even though the graphics and animations were beautiful. Even though there were subtle messages of discrimination in the game, it was heavily overshadowed by heavy violence. The attacks also are pretty repetitive(i.e. same shooting, ground pound, hovering, going up walls, etc. Even more frustrating was the fact that you can't even swim! The side missions were also pretty repetitive too to add to my frustration. The story was ludicrous for both Karmic plotlines, who goes up against the dictators just to save a family? The fact how Augustine still uses her Conduit abilities also confused the heck out of me, she would have been easily captured. The facial animations were also pretty awkward and unemotional in some cases.

Even though I support the fact Conduits shouldn't be labeled "Bio-Terrorists", I agree the same thing with the non-Conduits, I was angered at the fact the developers made the non-Conduits weak and helpless, just because they don't have "powers". My anger heats up with Reggie reduced from a big-time sheriff to a dude-in-distress, increased even more when Abigail Walker and Eugene Sims come in. Reggie is then used as emotional leverage to influence Delsin and the player's decisions, which cheeses me off! The game developers killed Reggie off even though Reggie should've been given a larger support role. I also hated the fact how Delsin "leaves Reggie for his own safety" and then... Delsin asks Eugene to help free the suspected Conduits even though Eugene has no formal combat training like Reggie and Abigail does. Pffft... Oh well, I'm looking forward to the sequel after I play and finish this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Infamous second son is a great game and one that every ps4 owner should atleast try. The game is so much fun to play that wont regret purchasing it. The game looks absolutly fantastic, one of the best looking game to date. I'm not much a graphic guy but I appriecate beautiful games and Infamous is one hell of beauty. Not only does it really looked good but the gameplay is so good. You will never get borred in this game because there is always something you can do and your imagination is your only limitation. one reason why you never will get borred is the joy of getting a new power, just when u starting to get tired of a power set you will get a new one. You can updrage all your powers by collecting shards and by doing so you will get new types of attacks/ abilities.
I dont know why people complain about the story, it is not as awful as some make it to bee. Sure its not of the best stories in game history but it certianly is not bad. I really loved the relationship between the brothers and they made me laugh few times. But the choices in this game can be a bit dissapoint as it does not impact the game so much. THe choices are like black and white and there is nothing in the middle, either its a good act or a evil act. I really wished it was not so obvious which is good and which is evil. I enjoyed the moral choises in infamous 2 more and I felt they had more impact on the game.

Overall the game is fantastic and I give this game 10 because it dos get a lot of things right. i have played over 30 hours and for me, I have enjoyed every minute of it and at the end of the day thats what counts. I really hope we get to see another infamous in the future. If you own a ps4 and wondering if you should get this game then I highly recomend you to do so. Now back to Seattle!

I highly recommend this game to anyone who can make the jump to a PlayStation 4. The game looks fantastic and plays great. However, the game follows tropes of its genre, both good and bad. The worst trope, or crutch, is the abuse of wave after wave of guys with machine guns who constantly shoot at you until you end up hiding in an alley until you recover.

For me, the super hero game gun problem began with "Crackdown". Despite the utter lack of a narrative "Crackdown" was a fun game because for the first time, you could jump anywhere and toss any person or vehicle. Yet, even at its best, "Crackdown" constantly subject the player to enemies that simply stood their ground and firing guns with an inexhaustible supply of bullets. This horizontal hail of bullets continued in "Just Cause 2", where the player character had two super abilities: 1) an infinitely re-usable grappling hook and 2) an infinitely re-useable parachute. The bad guys only had one super ability, telescopic x-ray vision that let them shoot the player character from any distance with any weapon. The game "Batman: Arkham City" solved the gun problem by mostly removing guns from the game. The story device was turning party of Gotham City into a prison a la "Escape from New York", and guns are not allowed into prisons. Although guns appear later in the game, Batman is provided some bullet resistant body armor and stealthy techniques for handling gun wielding enemies. At the very least, "Batman: Arkham City looked like the first super hero game that was not born out of a first person shooter. None of these games nor any super hero game to follow includes the simplest solution: a bullet proof hero. The one game I know of where the player character can be bullet proof is "Saints Row IV", though to be fair this attribute is only unlocked after completing most of the game and the entire game is a parody of other games.

"Infamous Second Son" does not make a character bullet proof. Nor can players truly fly. The player character has access to 4 sets of super powers, with something like 20 distinct powers in the entire game. None of the powers are very helpful when the main enemy is the ubiquitous faceless soldier wielding a machine gun. And the entire time you play, no matter what the power, the defense to getting shot is running away. Hard to look feel like a super hero when you're running away.

Another missed opportunity is the lack of differentiation for super powers. All four powers have a same-y-ness to them. You can do a quick movement, shoot enemies, disable enemies, or fire an enormous missile. The color changes but that's about. The big differentiator is the power of invisibility, and though fun, it won't clear the street of jack booted thugs. Most disappointing is the concrete power. You will see bad guys put their concrete power to creative uses. When you get the concrete power, your back to using the same few attacks, only less interesting. Sucker Punch is a studio that is apparently not brimming with creativity.

The story in "Infamous Second Son" is nice change of pace from some of the bonkers, surprise laden stories of AAA games in the last half decade. The highlight is the interaction of Delsin and his brother Reggie. Though the game is constantly teasing with a dark side, the interplay is funny, heartwarming, and sometimes hilarious. My one gripe is with how the story deals with the antagonist. Early in the game the antagonist violates federal law by torturing members of an Indian tribe on their reservation. Terrorism laws are one thing. Treaties are another. Later one, the player character has ample opportunity to defeat the antagonist in what could be considered the longest boss battle in video game history, except, of course, "Metal Gear Solid" took that prize back in the days of the original Playstation. Instead of playing to the story and ending the fight at the first available opportunity, the game forces the player to keep the fight going for no apparent reason other than padding the playtime. My suggesting for the developers: when you have a story that is more creative than the game play, let the story take over.

Final thoughts. For better or worse, the game uses every trick the PS4 controller has to offer: a color changing light, in-controller speaker, touchpad, and accelerometer. All of these uses seem tacked-on and gimmicky. The accelerometer, for instance, is only used to paint graffity, and even then, only within a stencil created by the developer. Why have a path for hate filled psychopathic killers? Despite the large open world setting, 100% completion is possible in 20 to 30 hours. The game looks great but the environment is standard non-destructible and the NPC models are straight out of the last generation. The InfamousPaperTrail meta game is expertly done.

The graphics are outstanding, each set of powers looks unique and stands out. The characters are well modeled and the motion cap is impressive although at times it does look a little odd.

The game rarely stutters, I had it slowdown during one mission about 2/3rds through the game that involves an overpass and that was about it.

The only downsides I could think of for this game are the side missions to clear out each part of Seattle are the same throughout the entire game. Raid a settlement, destroy some cameras and shoot down a lot of drones. By the time you reach the second half, you'll do these things only because you need to upgrade your powers or you're chasing trophies.

The morality system is very forced, I played through the game as a hero and you are rewarded for doing certain things during fights (not killing enemies or injuring civilians). There are also side quests that pop up on the map for helping with your karma but like the other game side quests, they are very repetitive after the first few times you do them.

I really did enjoy the game but the lack of variety in the side missions and the morality system brought me down from a 9-9.5 to an 8. Definitely recommended to anyone that is looking for a fun game to play but if it's out of your preferred genre it might be worth waiting until it goes on sale.

So the long wait for triple A exclusives is over... Hard to believe it's been nearly half a year since the ps4 graced our homes...six months without anything truly great...or have we? That depends on your perspective.
Killzone shadowfall is undoubtedly the best looking game on any console but suffers from lackluster campaign and a mediocre multiplayer, drive club was held back and this left us at the mercy of generic multiplatform titles and indie games.

But I digress, today we're talking about INFAMOUS SECOND SON, a game many have been looking forward to for so many reasons.
The third installment of the infamous story fast forwards us several years into Delsin Rowe, a petty criminal living in a tribal community with his newly appointed sheriff brother. Delsin becomes unwittingly embroiled into events when a convoy carrying bio terrorists is sabotaged. Cue events which leads him and his brother to a glorious looking Seattle to find a 'cure' to help the tribe and uncover a truth he never went looking for.
so was it worth the hype?
    Firstly, how does it look...
Seattle looks fantastic, it's not exactly street for street accurate but the landmarks like the space needle are there and it's about as big as New Marais in infamous 2.
There is no dynamic weather or time but that's not to say you won't see Seattle at night or in the rain. Suckerpunch have cleverly combined the time of day to coincide with Delsin's powers. I won't spoil too much but one power sees you harnessing neon, night falls and you feed off neon energy by draining signs over town. Combined with the rain it adds a fantastic little touch when it reflects off the rain soaked ground.

This time you have several sets of powers, each set is upgradable by collecting shards. This adds a nice touch but people who strictly follow the main story will miss out as you can only enjoy one set of powers at a time and it's not a choice, so enjoy, do side quests etc and really play about with your powers.
The karma system is back, good or evil, I'm playing evil right now with five stages.. From thug to infamous with each stage unlocking perks to your upgrades but also has exclusive powers depending on which side of the coin you flip... For instance, being evil will unlock a certain perk like an execution move which isn't available if playing as a good boy but dont fret, good karma has its own set to enjoy.
The missions so far have been anything other then average. Good here, kill this, destroy that. Which is pretty meh and I expected more. Whilst there are plenty of side quests I feel they could of made the main quests a bit more substantial. Every mission has been played outside, unlike gta v which puts you in the odd building or whisks you to another part of the map previously inaccessible on free mode.
It's a fun game and it's story isn't anything too exciting but enough to keep people playing. In respects, it's like an upgraded version of infamous 2. The phrase 'if it isn't broke, why fix it' leaps to mind
And yeah, it wasn't exactly broke but it did require upgrading. I feel it only made a graphical leap and not the leap I expected from say GTA IV to GTA V. It's enjoyable, the characters are warm and funny at times and it has plenty to do but it's a tad repetitive and has me looking forward to my next set of powers just to keep me interested.

If you enjoyed infamous 2,you'll easily enjoy this but don't expect anything too different except the story and your powers. It's still an open world game which truly lives up to the phrase 'open world'

That there is the problem with the Metacritic scoring of users. Half of the "reviews" aren't reviews. Just a bunch of fan boys. And just to try and get the game to a respectable rating, the people that actually enjoyed the game BECAUSE THEY PLAYED IT, have to give a rating of 10...which this game is not.

By now everyone that's interested in the game has seen some kind of actual game play. If it interests you go out and play the game. The game play can get repetitive but 90% of games get repetitive at some point. If you own a PS4 do yourself a favor and pick this game up. It'll keep you entertained long enough to get your $60 worth.

Second Son is definitely one of the better PS4 games so far, but it isn't without faults.

Total playtime was probably 20 hours or so. There's no multiplayer either, so once you've finished the story there's really not much left to do.

All in all, I feel like the game is a good one, but I honestly don't know if it's worth the money. It's definitely not worth buying a PS4 just to play this one game. If you already own the system and are thinking about picking this one up, rent it first.

Infamous: Second Son is a strong entry in the series and possibly one of the best games released yet on the PS4. Gameplay is top notch and the game is stunningly beautiful. The only issue a had was with a weak story and poor morality system.

InFamous: Second Son shows us why Sony's Playstation 4 is the number one console on the market today. Some may disagree with that statement, but figures show that as of writing this review, it's the truth. The inFamous franchise has always been seen as somewhat of a second fiddle to the critically acclaimed Uncharted franchise by long-time Sony exclusive developers, Naughty Dog. But with the release of inFamous: Second Son, that's now proven to be all passe'. Developers at Sucker Punch have now stepped up to the plate and proven that they are now ready to be top-dog in the Playstation Universe, and inFamous: Second Son is certainly the jump start the game studio needed to get them ahead of the rest. But even with our initial praise, was the game's plot all that great? Did Delsin leave an impact that would make us forget the heroics of our electrifying hero? or did his smarky attitude leave us hoping for Cole's survival?

    GAMEPLAY: -
As inFamous fans, we all know it's all about the power game. You can't just walk in thinking that it's all going to be handed to you on a silver platter, and in a matter of moments you have the ability to blow everything up at your own free will. Playing as Delsin, you will find that alot of your powers will emulate much of what you had in the previous inFamous titles. You get the standard shoot, hover, and grenade powers, but will see that some new powers have now come into play, whilst leaving a couple behind that make total sense. Second Son brings in wall running which replaces much of power line surfing from it's Playstation 3 counterparts, and short dashes with the simple press of the 'circle' button make melee attacks pretty practical, and awesome. Of course with the different powers Delsin collects, each individual type of melee attack will have it's own unique twist with it. The powers Delsin sponges off other conduit's, or Bio-Terrorists (however you see fit to name them) throughout the game make's Delsin an irresistible force to control.

With each of the power's unique twist on every melee attack Delsin has in his arsenal, you'll find yourself wanting to switch it up every once in a while. This is where it becomes a little hectic. It's not as simple as a click of a button and Delsin changes from Smoke to Neon, you will have to find the nearest Neon sign or Smoke chimney to switch around each power. Losing and gaining energy is exactly as it was in the previous title. Low on health? Drain a Neon sign. Low on fuel? Drain a satellite Dish. Oh yeah, you can do that. And of course, what is an inFamous game without Karma? Your actions throughout the game will set you on a unique path to either becoming a hero or paving the way for becoming infamous. Each simple action in the game will either add good karma or bad karma to your karma gauge throughout the game, which is now represented by the two-colored eagle patch placed on the back of Delsin's vest. And yes, like the previous titles, Delsin's clothes do change according to his level or Karma. There are six levels of different karma again, three for good and bad karma's respectively with each name only showing the level of decency or devilishness your Delsin will get up to.

Only thing is, you will find that it is near impossible to avoid accidentally attacking the innocent throughout the game at times, that is if you are running through a straight good karma run. If you're going on an evil karma run, you will have no problem achieving the infamous rank. You will find that swarms of D.U.P's will come in masses, and aren't that easy to defeat. Even on the easiest difficulty, you will find yourself struggling to keep up with enormous swarms attacking you from every direction. Best advice? Run and wait. Just don't move away too far from certain missions, as you may fail them if heading too far out of bounds. And as far as in-game controls go, if you're expecting to jump directly from a fresh playthrough of inFamous 2 to Second Son feeling "prepared", you're in for a world of surprise. Forget everything you knew about the original inFamous controls as alot has changed, although once getting used to the new control system, you will find that the new layout is has improved and feels much more streamlined for better character handling. The game also makes use of the Dualshock 4's new touchpad, which you will be using quite abit throughout the game. The speaker on the controller will spark off a couple times as well, giving you the occasional treat.

    PRESENTATION: -
Second Son is nothing short of gorgeous. The design really does show off the difference between last generation and current/next generation consoles. The detail that the developer's put into every little speck throughout the game is remarkable. From rain droplets hitting puddles in the street, to the Smoke particles from Delsin's arsenal, the attention to detail put into Second Son is amazing. Rest of this Review is on DashGamer.com

Why then am I giving this game an 8 if its this bad then? Because in spite of itself it is a blast to play. That alone bumps it to an 8.

My first good playthrough on normal was fun, smooth. Not very challenging. Second playthrough, evil on expert. Much better. The combat had more memorable moments. Its more challenging and the karmic differences become apparent. I enjoyed how on my second playthrough smoke was so much more fun to play. I found myself using completely different powers, flying from rooftop to rooftop, taking more strategic approaches, launching missiles springing from rooftop vents. Taking down towers from 3 blocks away and generally feeling like an evil badass. If you take it for what it is you can have a ton of fun, just don't expect a GTA killer.

I found the gameplay and abilities pretty interesting and the graphics pretty well made and optimised for ps4. No significant framerate issues and pretty nice art. The only downside was the dull story and the repetitive pace of the game, unlocking areas, clearing them out, progressing the story and repeat.

The second play-through was tough to finish because the game loses it's appeal once you have beat it the first time. There is really nothing to do after you beat the game if you do everything as you go.

    - Decent story

    Cons

If you are considering getting it, just get it. It is a GREAT game even if the lasting appeal is not there. If you are skeptical, just wait for a price drop or rent it.

While it's a solid 8, it could be higher. This is mainly due to the so-so story, repetitive objectives, and crude execution of the classic inFAMOUS morality questions of becoming good or evil. I'm guessing the developers didn't have enough time for variety of objectives or finer tuned morality leveling. What they did have time for, however, was excellently developed and implemented.

After a series of events, a wreck in your town leave the conduits, or bio terrorist depending on who you ask, freed and running for their lives. You character comes into contact with one of them and through some sort of hocus pocus becomes a conduit himself. images6Now with the ability of Smoke you will start to have fun toying with the different ways to use it. This only leads to problems for the young…hero?

This leads me to the next part of this game. The Karma system. Doing good and bad things can effect the game in different ways. Good guys get certain abilities later while the baddies do the same but in images2different ways. For me, after running through both ways, I feel the good was a little easier to stay alive while the evil made it easier to kill large groups. There are SO MANY ways to gain or lose karma. Everything from killing drug dealers (evil) to healing hurt civilians (good, duh) The one thing this didn’t effect… much to my surprise, was the story line. While there were tiny differences ( If you want to know what they were then play the game) but not enough to really make the game worth playing through twice… unless you are hunting trophies. Otherwise, just 100% on the path you choose. You won’t miss much.

One of my favorite things about this game was the choice in powers and the variety of abilities within said powers. The was three main powers (and fourth once you beat the game) to choose from. There’s Smoke, that yo u start with, Neon, and video. They all hXkyQdU1ave their advantages but once i got neon and especially video, i never used smoke again… until they made me.The wings of video (see right) made it super easy to travel through the large map! Neon was great for long distance and was a huge help when it came to upping your karma levels!images(see blow) Concrete is the last power and is fun but not easy to use. Just have fun finding all the different ways to kill the DUP’s!

Another fun and innovative add-on to the game was the graffiti art that you could do. They let you choose good or evil and you had to turn images3the controller sideways, shake it like a spray paint can, and then aim it while holding the trigger. It was fun and for some reason, never got old!

Over all the game was good, not great, but good. The story keep me wanting to play more…which is why I beat it so quick… it really doesn’t take long to beat but there is plenty to do after to get 100%. If it sounds like fun to you then chances are you will love it and play it till your passed out still holding the controller, for a day or two.

    So lets review:

    Pros:
    Great story
    awesome powers
    fun game play

    cons:
No difference in story line from good to evil
    No online play

So overall it was good… let’s say 8/10

And as always, This is Steps

inFAMOUS Second Son is a phenomenal game. It is such a fun game to play, thanks to Delsin's superhuman abilities, the outstanding triple A graphics and a quite interesting story line. The game's only flaw is that it can be repetitive at times, and the ambient soundtrack is not that great.
