This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. inFamous Second Son is a great game, I'll say that. Graphics are stunning (this is next gen, of course you need to push the consoles limits) likable protagonist. Finished it on both Hero and inFamous, however once you beat the game, there isn't much doing and you will possibly leave the game in your shelf for a long time. Expand

If you like this kind of game and liked the other infamous games, you'll also like this one, but might find it worse. That is basically my opinion. I never though of buying infamous 1, but I gave it a try after Sony gave it for free after PSN problems (loads of years ago) and I loved it; since then I played all of them. I got to say this is a good game and it is definitely worth the money, but the word is good, not great. This instalment of the series has a much more realistic-like setting which I personally like less that the original settings. I also found the game short (I mean the main story) in comparison with the other two games. Other than that, the game play and everything else is quite similar to the previous infamous games in a good way. The characters are likeable and the story is all right (not as great as the in the other games). Go for it, you'll find a good game, but I wouldn't expect great. Expand

A good game that can get very repetitive. Doesn't take long to do a full play through, it will capture your attention for a few days until the repetitiveness becomes too much. Not much replay value but still worth a play through if you have a PS4.

Story - As a gamer who played the first two of the series. The story of this game is worst compared to the previous titles. The story of this game is worst compared to the previous titles. In fact, it is very ordinary, short and nothing really in the whole campaign felt as unique and everything is predictable. It just shows the aftermath of Cole's actions from Infamous 2 and revolves around the discrimination felt by the surviving "bioterrorist" in the world. As to the characters, All in all, It is BAD, Delsin is not that interesting and has a lot of corny and annoying jokes, his evil persona is so out of place and a try-hard to be "evil" while it is very obvious that his good path is his true personality. As a conclusion, he is not a good new protagonist to change Cole. The supporting cast however are much more interesting esp that guy who likes videogames (avoiding spoilers). Ill give this aspect a score of 6/10.

Gameplay - The positives, the gameplay is so smooth and has little to no bugs or glitch whatsoever. Delsin has not only one but FOUR different powers in the game which is divisive and useful in many and different situations and battles in the game. The negative side however is the small number of skills and scope of Delsins power in the game. Every power has their own version of R1 and L1s and glide and dashes and nothing really distinguishes a power from another power other than how they look. Its should have been better if they just made more skills available for us. An okay score of 8 to me.

Graphics - Now this is the part where this game lives up to the hype. The game is SOOOO GORGEOUS AND SO SMOOTH. One of the best graphics of the game in the year it was released. No graphical issues, lags or frame rate drops are occuring anywhere despite a lot of explosions appearing on screen. The facial expression of every character from the movement of their eyes to their movement of their lips and cheeks are all detailed and almost realistic. The motion acting of every character is smooth and the cutscenes are like watching a film. A score of 10/10 deserves such effort by Insomniac Games.

Soundtrack and Sound - Voice acting is top notched. You have Troy Baker who tbh, the only reason why Delsin is not a failure of a protagonist. The guy's voice acting is awesome. Every actor and actresses in the game really put their best in order to put life to every character they did and I LOVE IT. As to the soundtrack however, personally, I never really liked the punk style hardcore music, Its not really my thing and it didnt really fit to the storyline the game wants you to feel. A score of 6 for this.

    Total Average = 7.5

This is a game which continues one of the better series from Playstation's exclusives and this game is the worst of the 3 games in its series. The protagonist is weak, overall cast are weak also, the story is average, the powers are many but nothing really was interesting and the overall campaign felt normal and nothing really memorable happened. All in all, despite the great graphics and smooth gameplay, every other thing felt ordinary if not dissapointing. Dont get me wrong, if it is a stand alone game or a new ip it would be better but it being a successor to its succesful predecessors would also be the reason of its criticism. That is all. Thank you.

Story - The game continues from the aftermath of Infamous 2's good ending and tells the new protagonist Delsin Rowe's story which is a conduit whose powers can absorb the powers of other conduits. The story centers on Delsin's battle against the DUP, a group who swore to capture all conduits in the world lead by a sadistic but powerful conduit Augustine. It covers also the life of conduits after infamous 2 and the discrimination and hate that they encounter. IMO, i am not impressed with the story, it is very cliche, short and also predictable, and this are from the makers of infamous 1 and 2 which has great storyline. In addtion, the protagonist is weak, his good path is his obvious personality while his bad path is ridiculous and out of place. Despite that the supporting characters on the other hand are great esp Eugene and Fetch, other conduits who will help Delsin in his fight againts the DUP. The same weakness goes to the antagonist which is pretty cliche at start but was rather interesting at the end. Overall though, it is dissapointing and a siginificant letdown for me wirh regard the storyline. A poor score of 4/10

Gameplay - I can say that this aspect of the game is till maintained and it is awesome! The way the powers is used, the smooth controls and how you have different powers at your disposal unlike the previous two in the sequel in which you can only use lightning, in here, you can use 4 different powers and skills which is great. My main problem in the game though is its missions, it is short and was kinda repetitive as a whole, cause all you do is go to point A fight, then go to point B, then fight, the open world, you can only cover the area by taking over DUP bases and getting collectibles. The only miscellaneous quest i really liked is the wall painting mini game which is entertaining. Overall, a good score of 8/10 will do.

Graphics - Now we are talking, Sucker Punck really showed in this game how powerful and how promising next gen games will look. It is very pretty and there are ZERO frame drops or screen tearing occuring ingame despite the many explosions and effects coming out in the screen. My issue however is the environment, realistically it is good and beautiful but it is very short and you cant really go to places which are interesting despite its great view, in addition, i was somewhat neutral to the punk character design of the characters but i didnt like Delsin's image in both the good and bad path, glad that you can change his jacket ingame. Overall, it deserves a great score of 9/10

Music and Sound - The soundtack of this game is a mix of punk and rock music, and i can see why based on the main characters. Though imo, with the storyline they want you to see, i dont think it matches it. As to the sound and voice acting though, it is top notched with troy baker being the lifesaver of the protagonist with his good voice acting and motion capture. A fair score of 7/10.

    Average score = 7.00

If this game was released as a new IP or new title then i would be giving it a better score. But considering that is a sequel (or spinoff) then there is no question why it will be compared to its previous game in the series. It is inferior and despite the good gameplay and good graphics, i never really felt connected nor fell in love with its characters nor are they that memorable. Regardless,it its still one of the better exclusives of PS4 and suckerpunch being one of the better developers of them also hope to make more and better games in the future, Kudos to them! Thanks

Well, at the first glance of the graphics made by suckerpunch, the art style is very careful with animations and details of the textures that draws attention during its time of launch and stay pleasant, although there are some bugs in the execution, as well as in the jump of the characters .

Soundtrack is far from being marked as the open world of the game that tries to bring innovators quests but that are repeated a lot and are boring, the studio also fails to try to set seattle in the game being the unattractive and charismatic city looking like just another generic video game map.
The game narrative with its ups and downs, the main group of characters are charismatic, but is very little explored during a game campaign, sees very little development, making some moments more difficult to make a big impact on the plot.

In a sustainable way, the story is good and has good characters but everything seems very and empty, this takes the Karma system already present in other games in the franchise or the system was expanded taking into account small choices in its gameplay or that it is very interesting, but big choices are not very interesting representing almost no dilemma.

In the end what makes the experience of the infamous second son really interesting is its gameplay with a wide variety of skills and powers allows you to play as you prefer to have the most fun with a great combination of activities and strokes available in the game, infamous is not a marked game, but it has its qualities being an interesting distraction if you buy a good price.

This is also an open world sandbox game which was quite new in 2014. I didn't completed all of the optional quests as I found repetitive to always fight DUP agents. For the main story, you can expect a game that will last around 10 hours.

Having played Infamous: Second Son for the first time in 2014, this was my first game on the PS4. After 6 years i returned to finally complete it on Hard, and here's my review of the game.

Infamous: Second Son feels more like a spin-off to Infamous 1 & 2 than like a sequel. The main character is a loser that takes no responsibility for his actions (whether you gain Good or Bad Karma doesn't matter). Delsin Rowe gets himself and others in danger repeatedly, and only thinks short term. He's the definition of a Millennial. Unfortunately, neither the villains or "Good guys" in this game have much of a brain, well except for Reggie.

The previous games choose to have a cartoonish look to them, trading in realistic graphics for art style. With this entry it is mostly gone in favour of more realistic graphics. At times it looks beautiful, but i don't see the point. Shadow and black in this game is so dark that it will block your view, followed by flashing you with very bright light. It's rather uncomfortable. Without the art style from the previous games it is also harder to see what's happening on screen, and it feels more tame. What happened to the colour full monsters?

But gameplay wise, Infamous Second Son does entertain. The better you get, the more you will use elevation, environmental objects and different powers. At Hard it feels like enemies are spamming you a bit too much, but it is manageable. The climbing system feels rather broken though. Delsin jumps on objects very inaccurate, and usually doesn't grab ledges that are right under his nose. Once you get Neon you won't have to climb anymore thankfully.

I do hope that some studio returns to the Infamous franchise someday, but rather from an angle AGAINST the conduits. I would like to see more DUP soldiers that have genuine motivations to hunt the conduits, even if they might be conduits themselves.

A fun game, but a bit of a tame and dumb game as well. It is a good game overall, and i give it a 7/10.

Althought not as good as it's series' predecessors, Second Son feels like a refreshing side-story in the same world. The new protagonist isn't as good as Cole, but he still manages to be an adequate leading man for the story. The variety of new powers is fun and allows you to mix and match. Overall not a stand-out experience but a good sequel that serves to continue the Infamous story.

Leaving that aside, it was a fun game to play. It was not better than the previous ones but it was not lesser either. I loved that you had more powers to choose from, that was a great idea.

The story was ok, it kinda followed the plot that you have seen many times, so I didn’t get surprised at all in how things turned out, or maybe I’m just too old to get amazed any more...

The side missions were really simple and repetitive, honestly tree missions that repeat over and over again, why would they do something like that?

The last battle was dull and kinda boring, I think the previous boss battle was way better.

I love InFamous games because you get the chance to do what you cannot do in any other video games, that is to get the chance to play as the villain. It’s always lots of fun.

    Fantastic voice acting and visuals.
Gameplay is smooth and combat evolves at a nice pace.
Story is pretty thin and ultimately its weak point. The good vs evil story progression is nice, but mostly falls flat, particular when playing on evil karma.
The game is incredibly easy to beat on the hardest difficulty, and appears to be much easier playing as evil vs good.

This game is enjoyable; it's pretty and has a solid story and characters to boot. The sound quality with the abilities is good but there aren't many good music tracks to enhance the experience. On balance, Second Son is a fun game.

o meu unico problema com este jogo é que nao é um jogo facil, mesmo na dificuldade mias baixa alguns jogadores podem se ver presos durante algum tempo em certos boss...

A blast of a game, with fantastic gameplay and world/level design. Whilst the binary choice system has always felt a little limiting and this game doesn't really break that trend, the gameplay implications of your story decision are just as great if not better than the other mainline Infamous games.

Playing this for the first time, using a ps5. It's an OK game. Controls feel kind of floaty, and the lighting makes it hard to see. The powers are kind of underwhelming and odd (smoke, neon, video?).

In a game like this where neither the atmosphere nor gameplay succeed story becomes incredibly important. Unfortunately, what's here is forgettable.

As negative as my review is, I still feel that inFamous: Second Son is worth it to the right person. If you happened to enjoy inFamous 2, you will very likely enjoy this latest iteration. It suffers from the same issues, but manages to deliver a better visual experience.

But in my opinion, the game falls short of being recommendable at the $59.99 MSRP.

    PROS:
+They have some wonderfully written characters. For example, you get a strong brotherly bond between Reggie and Delson.
+The game is beautiful - a game, like The Last of Us, silences boastful PC fascists.
+The AI is one a lot of other game developers should study. It felt surprisingly realistic, and two steps ahead of it's predecessors.
+Multiple powers all carry their own independent sense of extreme power while still maintaining a sense of agility. Shards are much easier to find and seem to hold more use when they have the potential to unlock a myriad of abilities.
    +Executes open-world well.
    CONS:
-The choice system was incredibly black-and-white: right away they throw a convincing character into an evil situation and he becomes dreadfully unbelievable! You're exposed to a gentle, humorous and kind young man, and then the game wants you to believe this lovable soul has the emotional capability of killing innocent people. Yeah, right...
-They could have done a lot of things with some characters that quickly disappeared (Betty, Fetch, etc.).
-While Reggie is almost as lovable as Delson, he seems to be their only as weight for the bland decision making; again, falling to the evil situation, why would a cop let his brother do evil things - and still support him? The character writing backfires, were it's previous titles had flawless decision making, and believable characters on both sides of the road.
    -Both endings are garbage, sorry.
I guess the bottom line is if you're looking for a open-world superhero game - or just an Infamous fan - you should by this game, but I wouldn't even come close to saying it's worth picking up a PS4 for.

Firstly, the game looks absolutely superb on the PS4; the lighting and general textures are fantastic and the colourful effects really add to the gorgeous backdrop. The game performs solidly throughout and with it being such an early game in the consoles lifespan; it's definitely encouraging to see. Too many areas around the Seattle location are copy and pasted though and this makes for a repetitive feel to the scenery and the overall gameplay in time.

You play a young man called Delsin who acquires superpowers through an accident and it up to you how you use them - you can either be good or evil. The lead character is extremely irritating although he is supported by a significantly more mature and intriguing cast. However, the narrative doesn't go deep enough and most of the time you are given 50/50 choices on how to proceed. It just feels a bit linear. Whether you are good or evil; it opens the doors to a couple of play-through's but you may be bored after just one outing.

The game takes about 12-15 hours to finish which isn't very long and with a lack of an engrossing story, an poor lead character and repetitive gameplay; Infamous just lacks what is required of such a game. It's a sandbox but the overlay structure and depth is somewhat lacking. For an early PS4 game; this will pass as an acceptable title but it fails to maximise the potential of the console and the growing genre. This game is not worth full price and even around the £25 mark; it may be wise to skip and look elsewhere. In a few years time; this game will be gone and long forgotten.

Bugs- This game had some funny bugs not game breaking but for some odd reason the things that are supposed to be the easiest such as climbing walls, lock on, jumping/landing can be a frustrating experience. Ex: I want to do a drug bust sounds easy right.....you walk up to the goons and try to do a normal attack with the chain on the closet person but since there is a crappy auto lock it locks on the furthest guy which I cant reach, now im in the middle of 4+ goons that are shooting me, i do my smoke escape move and try to climb a wall(that has windows and other items that I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GRAB A HOLD OF) but to my surprise im just doing the whole animation of scaling a flat wall. Keep in mind that Im still getting shot. So now i know i have to fight to survive. Lets start with a jump attack.....WAIT there isnt a normal jumping attack....WTF!!!! Ok i can just use Comet Drop but when i jump i either get caught in some weird jumping motion(usually a potted plant or something small keeps me from actually landing), or i try to catch something to hold onto, or by the slim chance Ill actually do a proper jump and land. These small things are very frustrating

Combat-Garbage compared to BATMAN or even Assassins Creed. There isnt a real jump attack, slide kick, combos, just hit Square over and over with a small mix of X/O. What doesnt make any sense is that for such simple combat mechanics its broken mostly cause theres NO LOCK ON, NO ENEMIES ON THE MINIMAP, NO INDICATOR THAT YOUR ABOUT TO GET SHOT IN THE BACK! I get shot in the back so often its very frustrating that i can see whats behind me and i have no idea what so ever whats going on behind me.

Story- Im over a quater of the way through and i guess its my sense of humor that i dont mind the story. Its not OMG like Halo, Metro, or Batman its just passable like the scripts for those action movies.

Overall Gameplay- With all the bugs and combat issues this would be a game that I would have liked to be able to just run around and thats about it. Bugs and crappy combat mechanics dont make the action fun. Glad to have a DECENT Sandbox game but this is straight mediocre are best!

The karma decisions in this game are WAY dumbed down in this game and do not really affect the story at all until the ending. When I played through as evil, I felt that Delsin was being forced to be evil, and there was no appearance change like in Infamous 1 and 2 to make it seem that he was more of a villain.

Overall, Infamous Second Son is a okay game, but dissapointing as a fan of the series. The graphics and powers are great but the story felt rushed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a fantastic celebration of the PlayStation 4's somewhat powerful hardware. The graphics are beautiful and the game manages to maintain performance and frame rate, even in the most hectic situations. Even it's gameplay feels distinctively smooth, with smoke and neon feeling having fluid movements. However the games aesthetics and solid is hindered by a surprisingly short story, unforgivable repetition and a binary karma system, which could of been designed by a 7 year old.

I think the main problem with Second Son is it's repetitious campaign and side missions. Too many missions rely on you fighting through endless hordes of the same rock enemy, over and over and over. Sucker Punch I applaud you for creating some cool, original powers (Neon, smoke, video) but why didn't you apply these to any of the enemies? Missions would of been more challenging if you threw in enemies with the same or different elemental powers. Why not make it like Pokemon, where a wind conduit fights you and will kick you're ass if you play smoke (because he/she can just blow the smoke away) but if you turn to rock, its much easier. Furthermore, not all missions have to consist of, blowing a generator or tower up. In this day and age, especially with the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 (which isn't a perfect game and undoubtedly had problems) offers a wide range of mission objectives and is more diverse than you and lasts 30 hours longer.

Another issue is the silly, black and white, Pepsi or coke, Marvel or D.C., COD or Battlefield, Dreamworks or Pixar, Playstation or xbox binary and so on binary system. This is next gen folks, a clean slate, time for developers to try new things and have the powerful hardware to back them up and this fails to do anything innovative with a choice mechanic and rather reverts back to the old and tested gimmick of pure pedophilia, baby crushing evil and pure, brown nosing angelic, symbolic of the lord himself, good. In the first game and second it was sorta forgivable, as each power clearly changed and it gave reason go with either play style and offered replay value. But here they don't even make the powers that different. (SPOILER ONWARDS!!!) The morality of outright killing or reveling the villain to the public, isn't as simple as black and white, my first play through was good karma and the that last choice left a sour taste in my mouth, it was rushed, not thought out and lacked Infamous 2's awesome **** ending. Now If i was writing the story, I would of designed the ending to have more than 2 choices, more like 5 or 6... theyd be branching and go like this:

Don't reveal- She stays in charge of Seattle and keeps the conduits safe. They live a sheltered life but without freedom and experience. Also you bargain, for yourself to be left alone, but in this process you're also letting the woman who killed you're brother get away with it.

Reveal that she's a bio-terrorist sympathizer and was keeping conduits locked up for their own benefit. The goverment and her own men might turn on her and she gets fired or killed and her prison for the conduits is taken over by the government- (with the chance of the conduits being experimented on or even executed) Plus you have just condemned a woman, who was trying to help your kind.

Hurt her, badly- Not kill her per-say, rather just inflict alot of damage on her, until shes unable to walk or you cut of her arm or something :') (Of course she has fast healing so this choice would be kinda pointless)

Kill her and leave- You kill her, revenge for your brother and your people she tortured. A satisfying ending, but now you have to consider you've killed a powerful official.... will the DUP ever stop chasing you? They might murder you're whole tribe trying to find you, you'll more than likely live your life on the run... always looking over you're shoulder and can never settle down.

Kill her and take over- Ok, so this one is just in their for the awesome factor.. What if you decided to kill her and take over the DUP. Releasing the conduits and protecting them. However no you've just released potentially angry, extremely powerful people. Who were put in that prison and experimented on by their friends and family because they were rightfully scared. The death-count of innocent civilians could rise dramatically, but you have given the conduits freedom.

I don't know if those choices seemed any better, but it think if they had something like that, it would of been far more satisfying.

And the good karma ending is really boring and unsatisfiyng

The best thing about this game is without a doubt the amazing special effects. Aboslutely mind blowing. This game really have some of the best special effects in video games, and the photo mode is a really nice addition to the game. The game does not look to bad too, but I have seen better in the last generation for example The last of us. Some of the buildings are also destroyable and it look very realistic when it falls.

The antagonist is not too bad, and the reason she does thing is pretty good. She is more of a grey character that believes she is doing the right thing. Too bad Delsin is completely the opposite of that. For Delsin there are no grey, only good and evil, nothing between that. The game actually punishes you for trying to remain neutal as good karma and bad karma get special abilites and upgrades.

The gameplay is pretty good and there are many different battle scenarios and every battle does feel a little bit different, but not that much. There are no stealthy approaches here and that is kind of dissapointing. The side missions are fun at first, but quikly become boring. Excpect for some missions. My main problem with the game is that I never once felt like a super hero in this game, even though it technally is a super hero game. When I save people it does not feel like they need help instantly. There are not enough consequenses for doing something bad or something good. Even if you have saved may people, people will still react if you have killed someone too. I feel like a man with smoke and neon power and not a superhero. Seattle is also not a very exiting place to be. It all feel the same. And this game has absolutely no atmosphere. It does not feel tense like Dishonored or Fallout, it does not feel beautiful like Journey and it does not feel sinister like the Batman Arkham series. It feels like Seattlle. Nothing else. Just plain, old Seattle

The new powers are fun for the first few minutes you have them, but then you realize that even with these powers you are STILL under powered no matter how high up you level them. the same enemies that gave you trouble with your first set will still give you trouble with the "powerful" third set. Add in the repetitive, boring mini missions you have to do for every single subsection of a REALLY dull and uninteresting city, and you have yourself a nice shiny repeat of the first InFamous game. Once you played the game for about an hour you pretty much have played the whole game.

Firstly I would definitely not recommend paying full price for this. I bought in on release for £50 and, pound to hours, this game barely lasted a fraction of the time. I completed my first playthrough in 8 hours, I wasn't even rushing, this was 100% 1st playthrough completion in practically one day. Naturally to see both the Hero and Infamous endings you'll want to play it twice, which totaled up to a grand 14 hours. For the amount of money they demanded for this game that is simply disgraceful. Aside from that I found Delsin a poor replacement for Cole; While Cole was the sort of character who could have gone either way, being good or bad based on the short straws life had handed him, Delsin's motives were purely altruistic and any decisions he makes along the Infamous karma route don't develop him as a character at all, they just make him out to be a punk. On that note the good and bad karma decisions in this game were weak. While Cole had some good ones: Bad: Absorb the power of the ray sphere and become all-powerful or Good: Cast it off and save the city, Delsins decisions are more along the lines of Bad: be a dick or Good: DON'T be a dick.
The game is of course not without its good points, the powers are quite expansive and while they don't vary as much as Cole's did in Infamous 2 with regards to Karma, they are still quite balanced at it's not unreasonable to expect the player to attain complete mastery of all of them...Though I did favour neon myself. Open world Seattle was quite expansive and well designed, it did an absolute fantastic job of making us believe the game was much bigger than it actually was. Graphics were sound and the game ran smoothly with no noticeable glitches or bugs. While the voice acting wasn't terrible, Troy Bakers did absolutely nothing to help Delsin's case or make him even a remotely likable character. Quite the opposite I found.
To sum up my review, if you can get this game for cheap...like £10 or something I say go for it, while it may be disappointing to many Infamous fans it can be fun, but if you want to go ahead and buy it at full price anyway, you've been warned.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Infamous Second Son: A PlayStation exclusive that was the first game to show off the power of the PS4 (yay) and all the things the new controller can do (Not as much yay.) A soft reboot of the original Infamous series you play as Delsin Rowe who lives on a Native American reservation north of Seattle. One day a prison transport carrying conduits (basically X-men) crashes and you accidentally absorb the powers of one. Now you have to go to Seattle with your sheriff brother to get a special power to save the nice Native Americans and defeat the evil government forces who have the city under martial law.

The game has you take down districts in a standard open-world fashion. Each takedown ends with a large battle which is usually quite well down. There are also four distinct boss battles related to gaining powers that are a little less successful. They are not as bad as say Deus Ex: Human Revolution but they have the annoying habit of ignoring your progress and skills for a cheap arena battle.

The Good: The game is downright beautiful. The action is often fun and chaotic. You eventually get three powers (smoke, neon, and video) with a fourth power (Concrete) available post game. The powers are different enough to be enjoyable and you will find your favorite. You are restricted to only one power at a time which unfortunately restrict the mix and match on the fly a bit.

The game’s main character voiced by Troy Baker is not nearly as irritating as the promo materials would lead you to believe. His relationship with his brother is actually kind of touching. He does have that annoying Niko Bellic habit of not being able to see a plot twist in neon orange with a well lit blinking arrow pointed to it.

You main action loops of fighting the super-powered mooks and destroying their bases are quite fun with a decent mix of strategy and action.

The Bad: Unfortunately to clear the districts there are side activities such as graffiti tagging (complete with annoying motion controls) and Where’s Waldo (find the undercover agent.) These start out meh and becoming draining by the third district or so. There is simply no variety.

While your actions on the city of Seattle are permanent (destroyed guard towers stay destroyed), there is never any reason to visit a district once you cleared it. It is a lot of work for no payoff outside of progression.

Sometimes the game will decide it is night and it will continue to be night until you do a mission to advance the game and change the time of day. Side missions, in particular, are often a bear at night (or even dusk another popular choice) so one finds themselves advancing the game through main missions trying to get decent lighting so they can mop up the side missions. This takes one out of the narrative a tad.

Second Son continues the Infamous tradition of two paths one good and one evil. You get different attacks and a different ending depending on which you choose. There is no nuance in the process and it seems to have no effect on any story beats outside of the conclusion. Compared to even Bioware or Fable's attempts at the same it is a crude underutilized tool that never really satisfies and sometimes doesn’t make sense.

In Conclusion: Infamous Second Son is a beautiful game with solid mechanics. It is also like playing Saints Row 4 with all the fun bits removed. Everyone is going to take the same path with the same character. There is little creativity outside of some at the moment strategy while taking out bases. Enjoyable overall it seems in a bit of a straight jacket that the gameplay cannot compensate for.

I loved the beginning of the game. The first hour or so, introduces some fine characters, and what promises to be an emotionally compelling story.

I'm the kind of player that loves to level up to the max, grind, become godly in agame, then just destroy everything in my path. So before I got too deep into the story, I collected almost every shard, and had gotten every district down to 0% DUP controlled. And I REALLY enjoyed the open world aspect, and the grind. The world is small enough that you can collect everything and level up to the max in just a couple of hours.

But then the boss fights. I didn't understand why they were SO drawn out... For a while I thought this game would be the one of the first games where I disagreed with Adam Sessler's review. But no.. 20 minute boss fights? With almost no variation. Just the same repetitive actions for each boss. All of them 10 - 20 minutes. And if you die during a boss fight, you start either the beginning or halfway. Left a terrible taste in my mouth after an otherwise very fun game.

And the absolute worst part of the game for me was the good/evil options. I completed the good paragon side early in the game due to my grinding. So I decided to try and switch to the dark side, to see if I could complete the trophy about unlocking all of the powers. But.. Instead of earning evil karma, I was just demoted, so when I actually finished the game, I missed a gold trophy completing the game with good karma. There was no explanation, or advanced warning that would happen. But I refuse to play the game again with all good karma just to collect that trophy. That left another very bitter taste in my mouth.

But other than those two problems, I really did enjoy the game. Especially when there's not many quality games for the ps4 right now. But I don't think I'll be purchasing the DLC, or the next game in the franchise. Not unless all the reviews talk about better boss fights, and improved karma system. Or if they just got rid of them, I'd be into that..

Repetitive, super powers which aren't so super, story is not compelling. Graphics are pretty but it takes more than that to make a game work.
I tried to like it but haven't even finished it yet as I just can't commit the hours to this. There are MANY other games worth your time.

Its graphics? The previous inFamous games were superb and I think there was a good reason inFamouns is in tiny letters and Second Son overtakes the label. As though they felt bad even calling it inFamous. I think this was supposed to appeal to dudebros who just bought a PS4 and only play "certain types" of games. For the well rounded gamer, this is poison. I went in with high hopes and was constantly insulted... as a person. I don't like to be around characters like Delsin in real life, why would I want to play one in a game?

If you couldn't guess, my main complaint about this game would be the characters. They aren't likable at all, none of them. Your main character Delsin is kind of an angry arrogant teenager in a 25 year old's body who thinks he's Banksy and tries his hardest to be cool but he's just a douche. He's whiny, sad, lonely, abrasive, self absorbed, and incredibly sexist. The writing of his script shows they not only don't care about this character but whoever wrote him must think this giant sack of dung is the coolest person in the world. He forces his brother to constantly go against his own principles and do wrong by questioning his manliness and his devotion to family.

The female protagonist is super cliche and basically her only focus is blaming her drug problems on pushers and killing them off. She's petty, small minded, easy, and I guess embodies a drug addict but still not a character I want in this game. I kept playing, even with how much I hated all the characters. The worst part is everyone is calling you on your phone all the time to complain at you and you just get whiny at them and the ringtone is just horribly annoying.

The city design is terrible. Everything looks the same, there's no compass direction on the map indicator, the layout making getting around over complicated, the "fast travel" stations only work when you go to one so they're halfway useless, and the change of day doesn't change the city. I kept playing even though the game was clunky. The city was just a low point and it made me miss the amazing open world designs in pretty much every other game like this.

There are still bugs after patching. Some of the missions don't trigger so you have to restart them several times. Sometimes double the enemies spawn. Randomly guys will be much more active about shooting you so sometimes it's super easy and other times you get shot to death in a couple seconds. There is a glitch where spray painting makes people stop shooting you as well.

So when did I stop playing? How about the tedious and terribly designed boss battles and fighting system. How about the niche overuse of new PS4 control methods? That's what usually hurts a game. When you just can't enjoy playing it after you remove everything else. The melee is basic and the most powerful but it's so badly done. Shooting powers give almost no damage and headshots take ridiculous accuracy, which your character doesn't have. You can take 20 shots and easily miss a guy you have your reticle right on. Your character goes down fast so you have to hit, shoot, hide, wait, hit, hide, shoot, hide, and repeat that for the entire game. You don't ever feel powerful. Worst of all your super ability takes about 15 seconds to watch and isn't skipable. It keeps me from even wanting to use it.

There's also the quirky things they tried to do but just became obnoxious. The touchpad is used for several things and it just seems stupid like Sony demanded they use it. The spray painting is just pathetic and the mechanics for that are clunky as well. The sound coming out of the controller becomes annoying. The phone ringing, absorbing things, just any loud high pitched annoying sound they could throw through that thing at way too high of a volume, they did.

So why would you like or play this game? I don't know, maybe you're capable of overlooking all of the terrible qualities on your wasted money. The story is not even redeemable, it's a rip-off of X-Men. If you look at the competent well done reviews by the more reputable people around gaming, you find mixed or negative feelings toward this game. It's just bad and I only enjoyed the first 20 minutes, until you start getting powers and become a needy child wanting more and more. Because all you care about is more powers so you can be cool and tough.

Bad story, gameplay, mechanics, design, and characters make it one of the all time worst games I've played. I just hope they remaster the first two inFamous games for PS4 so I

There's not much enemy variation, the enemies are limited to a few different types throughout the game. The city you are left to free roam in does not feel alive. The citizens walking the streets do not feel like they could be real, and the people driving cars never get out of them and just aimlessly drive around the city. The choices that you make don't feel like they matter, and it's the same with your karma meter. There's just not much life in this game's city and the actions that you make. It didn't feel like the karma actions that I made affected the city at all, and that what I did was useless and didn't affect anything. Also, the different powers felt almost like a rehash of the same thing, with the skill tree unlocks being almost the same. However, the game was fun, and it was entertaining to play. inFamous: Second Son is good but unmemorable game. If you played the previous games than you basically played this one as well. Except the two previous games had superior story with interesting twists and surprises. The gameplay hasn't changed much from the previous titles but it's better especially the movement. The new powers are fun and make you feel like a superhuman so the game succeeds in some way. Also the game looks stunning on PS4 so if you want the game to show off what the console can do, it's this one. Overall the game is fine but you won't remember it for long.

This is likely why Infamous: Second Son succeeds at being a fundamentally enjoyable experience. Yet, it is worth wondering how much more interesting Second Son could have been if the developer had taken more creative risks. Beyond some stellar acting and visual niceties, there isn’t much to appreciate. The formula is heavily iterated upon, but still feels middling when compared to competing products.

A core issue is the loosely structured and insubstantial narrative. Second Son is engaging in moment-to-moment plot events, but lacks overall cohesion. The story could be drastically reordered or slimmed down without consequence. If not for outstanding performances by Troy Baker (Delson), Travis Willingham (Reggie) and Christine Dunford (Augustine), Second Son would be a literal collection of self-contained circumstances without an anchor. Even the moral alignment system (which is typically a highlight of the franchise) is plagued by these issues. None of the ethical decisions players make follow a linear progression, resulting in a forced and undeveloped selection of endings. This is particularly upsetting because previous Infamous titles have significantly offset their own problems with memorable finales.

Some of these recurring gaffes carry over into Second Son, most notably the repetitive gameplay. Despite featuring polished traversal mechanics and an enormous play space, there is alarmingly little to do. Opportunities to fight enemies or perform heroic deeds appear constantly, but can usually be resolved in seconds. The sole alternative to this mindless scavenger hunt is a sparse quantity of story missions. While these missions are cleverly constructed and take full advantage of Second Son’s foundational strengths, their inherent creativity emphasize the unhealthy ratio of necessary to unnecessary content. It raises the question of whether or not Second Son was unduly rushed to arrive within the Playstation 4 launch window.

Though if the game was rushed, plenty of resources were still allocated to refining the visuals. The graphical composition of Second Son is easily its most consistent and carefully crafted element. Artistically, it leverages the serene lighting and color palette of the Pacific Northwest to generate a wonderfully unique atmosphere. Combined with impeccable motion captured animations and sharp textures, Second Son is dazzling in motion. Its lone visual caveat is somewhat unstable performance. Even on the beefier Playstation 4 Pro hardware, Second Son cannot run at a locked framerate. Dropped frames mostly result in inconsequential stuttering, but also occasionally slow intense action to a crawl. Had these densely packed areas been further optimized, Second Son would be a definitive technological showcase for the Playstation 4.

Additional development time could have made Second Son an overall consummate title for the console. Producing more diverse mechanics for the gameplay loop would have substantially benefitted the entertainment factor of Second Son, and allowing the writers more leeway to sculpt a traditional narrative would have mitigated how arbitrary the game feels. Another marked improvement would have been for the engine programmers to establish a 60 frames per second lock, given the focus on precise world navigation and combat. Otherwise, what remains is an arguably standard superhero escapade.

Still, this means there's two different paths to go down in the game, providing a fair amount of replayability if you want to see how those different choices affect the narrative and what different powers you get to use, as some upgrades in the skill tree are locked depending on your karma.

Personally, I chose to be good in my playthrough, and although this was quite a short game, I won't be going back to play the other side for the time being. I did enjoy my playthrough, but this isn't the best game out there.

Infamous can be quite fun thanks to the four sets of powers you unlock, but unfortunately the protagonist Delsin feels quite clunky to control, at least at first, and even throughout the game I thought the combat felt too loose. It can be exciting and chaotic, but it can also feel unsatisfying because it's hard to tell how close you are to dying, and because there isn't much depth to the melee or ranged combat. The sets of powers could've done with being more functionally distinct - besides having their own visual identities, there are a lot of similarities in how they actually play. Overall, the combat never fully clicked with me, but I liked it enough.

Traversal can be fun, if a little clumsy, but the climbing, which you admittedly don't have to do much of, is too fiddly.

Second Son is still a decent looking game in 2020, and the powers all have a unique visual style to them, but the world just looks way too dark sometimes and it's hard to tell what's going on. When you unleash your powers it all looks flashy as the screen fills with impressive particle effects, but the frame rate can be very unstable when there's a lot of action happening.

The open world shows its age a bit in its basic design, as there's barely anything to do except for what is essentially liberating districts. The side content is all very simple and easy to get through quickly. None of it is too much of a chore, but none of it is particularly interesting. The spray painting activities are quite unique and cool but very gimmicky.

The story is passable, and as others have pointed out the lore seems quite inspired by X Men. Most of the characters aren't very likeable, and Delsin can be quite annoying which made me struggle to get invested in Infamous Second Son.

As it is, this is still a fun, short title with some good replayability. It doesn't do anything exceptionally well, but it's still a decent game.

The graphics for 2014 are very good, for this game is a fat plus. I can not say for sure whether you should buy this game or not, because the game is very much for the amateur Expand

Overall fun game. Elemental powers are a fun addition. The story is forgettable. Gameplay loop is ok

inFAMOUS Second Son is great within the first two playthroughs, but I think this is a major step down for the series. All my opinion. The story feels too generic, and isn't as engaging as, say the first inFAMOUS. Characters are uninteresting accept for two characters. Side missions have no value and the map isn't as fun to explore as in the first two games.

It definitely isn’t one of those games you talk about years after its release, but it showcases PS4’s capabilities well and in contrast to Killzone: Shadow Fall also does something else – guarantees fun from the beginning till the end. [CD-Action 05/2014, p.58]

Fun romp, beautifully rendered and executed. Fantastic superpowers make up for the lack of depth. [Issue#241]

inFamous: Second Son is not a bad sandbox game at all! Serves as an interlude while waiting the heavy hitters to arrive. [Apr 2014]
