    Amazing game! Rich story and smoothly gameplay and rendering. Beautiful graphics. There are only 3 things I can complain about: 1) Falling: I find it absurd that falling the heights not so high takes away an absurd amount of stamina. 2) Climbing: It's frustrating not being able to climb rocks or cliffs like in Assasin's Creed. Why not use only the left stick and L3 for that. 4) Inventary is way too small, specially the resources slots.

    I hope they change this mecanics in the next Forbidden Forest sequel. Overall it is still an amazing and enjoyable game. More inclusion in all aspect would be appreciated also.    … Expand

    Horizon Zero Dawn is a game which I put myself off playing for a very long time, the game came out almost 5 years ago as I am writing this review and the new Horizon II Forbidden West is dropping in just 3 weeks time.

    The game feels fun and enjoyable but it does have its flaws and show some signs of age even though it is a spectacular game, I feel the story was fairly good but a little    Horizon Zero Dawn is a game which I put myself off playing for a very long time, the game came out almost 5 years ago as I am writing this review and the new Horizon II Forbidden West is dropping in just 3 weeks time.

    The game feels fun and enjoyable but it does have its flaws and show some signs of age even though it is a spectacular game, I feel the story was fairly good but a little bit shorter then I hoped, the combat felt smooth I mainly used the bow and arrow and enjoyed every second, the other weapons were good too however I didn't really use them as much as I might have liked.

    The selection of weaponry you have is satisfactory along with the heavy weapons you can pick up from enemies that add to the list of fun and enjoyable ways to take down human or machine enemies.

    The world of Horizon Zero Dawn is both beautiful and massive although I did wish exploration was a bigger focus, fast travel made this habit redundant at times and the quite frankly poor climbing really killed the vibe at times (a lot of these issues look to be fixed in Forbidden West).

    Overall Horizon Zero Dawn is a must play game if you want something fairly unique and different, I just hope the sequel lives up to it's billing and is a knockout hit for the playstation 5    … Expand

    I bought this game in 2019 but never played through it cause I had many other games at that time, fast forward to 2022 and i decided to complete it so I could get ready for forbidden West and omg i was blown away even though the game is 5 years old it did not age one bit, you could see the love and the attention to detail at every corner. Please do yourself a favor and play this game.

    This game is one of my biggest disappointments.
    I did it 3 years after its release and its worldwide consecration when it was one of my priorities to do on PS4.
    Each successful element of the game comes in contrast with a failed element. The robots have an excellent design and are superbly made, just as much as the human characters are missed, without any charisma, non-existent AI,    This game is one of my biggest disappointments.

    The starting premise is intriguing but the unfolding of the story is pompous under cover of boring war between clans and the thread of which we quickly drop out of disinterest. Finally the outcome is an indigestible twist that we see coming from the beginning and ultimately very conventional and unnecessarily complex.

    Character development lags behind. Aloy the main character is also part of it. We feel no attachment to her due to a charisma and a more than wobbly character, seen and reviewed 100 times (rejected by others, she forms herself).

    The gameplay is rather successful, especially fights which are complex, with a raised difficulty and different ways of approaching them. A good point.
    Point which will unfortunately be tainted by a very classic and uninteresting skill tree (no real choice to make so not really RPG). The very dirigiste side of the platform aspect of the game is also a bad point, showing that freedom in this universe is all relative.

    The open world is beautifully done, with a coherent universe that makes you want to be discovered. Even today the game is magnificent and is one of the best open worlds created. However again this does not work, because having a huge world with different biomes then requires having interesting content. Side quests and related content, each one is more repetitive than the other.

    In conclusion Horizon is not a bad game, but just a bland open world whose only difference with other games of the same type (Assassin's Creed,...) lies in its universe.
    Everything else seems to be a specification in which all the checkmarks have been checked but whose realization makes it just an average game in everything but excellent in nothing.    … Expand

But the gameplay, the graphics and the combat is amazing. Such a stunning world, characters and diversity in weaponery. Loved it and I can not wait for part II soon :)… Expand

    In my personal opinion, this is one of the best game ever made in the world, Not only for the geniuty of the plot, always very attractive and always well put together, but also the aesthetics and the structure of the Open-World, always full of mini-secrets to find out.

Машины эти как правило предстают пред нашим взором в знакомой форме животных или доисторических динозавров с хромированным блеском и в ореоле синего света — захватывающе! Природа дышит полной грудью, картины пышных лесов и цветочных полей перемежаются с монструозными останками машин и развалинами давно отгремевшей войны. Такой постапокалипсис и его обитатели очаровывают и восхищают. Положение дел на планете таково, что именно машины не человек являются ее хозяева. И вот наша рыжая смелая девчонка Элой, до наступления совершеннолетия пребывающая в изгнании вместе с ее наставником Растом, решается изменить ход событий и расстановку сил. Помогает ей в этом визор, найденный случайным образом после того как она еще совсем юной провалилась в глубокую яму, которая привела ее к древнейшему строению предтеч с куда более совершенными технологиями нежели у того же племени Нора, застрявшего в еще первобытных временах, откуда собственно и была изгнана наша героиня. Визор дает Элой всевозможную наглядную цифровую информацию по окружающему миру, происходящих в нем событиях и населяющих ее машинах, об их слабых местах, наличии брони и главном их оружии. Благодаря этому волшебному девайсу ну и конечно же усиленным тренировкам с наставником наша протагонистка становится к совершеннолетию просто исключительным охотником на машин и прекрасным следопытом. Задача вселенского масштаба в игре выяснить как человечество дошло до жизни такой, узнать причину появления машин ну и конечно же немного о себе. История Horizon весьма массивная и местами занимательная. Примерно на экваторе сюжетных перипетий потихоньку начали скучать, уж больно томная размеренная подача с растягиванием «интриги» до самых до окраин. Финальной битве той же с Аидом определенно не хватило эпичности и грандиозности что ли, какая-то она будничная получилась. Могли бы какого-нибудь нового невиданного монстра впихнуть, Мега-Громозева например.… Expand

    I've heard that videogames cannot elicit the same range or depth of emotion as other forms of media, such as music or film. HZD proves that wrong. This game is brilliant and phenomenal on so many levels. The originality of its concept alone is captivating. Ironically, I find the voice actress for Aloy the weakest aspect. I say "ironically" because she voices one of the strongestI've heard that videogames cannot elicit the same range or depth of emotion as other forms of media, such as music or film.     The gameplay on this is really fun, shooting machines with bow and arrow is really fun. But that's the best thing about this game. The facial motion and the costume design is a little bit silly in my opinion. The Story itself have ups and downs.

    기계공룡을 수렵한다는 볼때는 정말 화려한 작품이지만 그 외에는 만들다 만듯한 오픈월드, 평이한 스토리, 개성없는 주인공.. 몬스터헌터식 전투스타일을 싫어하면 정말 취향에 안맞을 작품

    All game mechanics work perfectly, Aloy movements, NPC's, combats...there's basically nothing bad in it.
    But if there's something where the game excels, that's the story. A brave and risky bet that works perfectly, creating a world that is mysterious at first but where everything makes sense at the end, linking every single detail with ease. The depth of the story, not only related to the main character but to the whole world, the secondaries, the perfect rythm that the game has to keep dropping hints and new info about everything, it's just amazing.
    Negatives? It's hard to find any, one being for me the huge potential of the story to create a way, way bigger game that makes this look kinda short. It is not, probably regular duration if we forget about The Witcher and similars, but it is so good that makes you wonder how many extra content could be made. That question is easily answered though, the second part is coming and probably will be more, so better bussiness to extend it withing a few games.
    The other negative I can think of are the weapons. They don't change much and you can get the best equipment fairly easy. The lack of upgrades in the spear, being the main weapon/tool is a bit dissapointing as well. This point might be the easier to improve.
    Anyways, you have to look hard to reason why it doesn't deserve a 10, really good game.    … Expand

    A forma como a Guerrilla construiu esse jogo, nos mostra que dar tempo e liberdade para o estúdio fazer o que quiser com o jogo, é a solução para os problemas que vemos na indústria. Um jogo exemplar com uma jogabilidade perfeita e viciante, com variedades de inimigos, combates e armas que fazem nunca se tornar genérico ou repetitivo, além desses gráficos e cenários ricos em detalhes que fazem qualquer um com olhos perceber que é um dos jogos mais bonitos de todos os tempos. Embarquei numa das histórias mais fantásticas e anti-genéricas de todas que já vi somando cinema e jogos eletrônicos, é espetacular acompanhar a Aloy na jornada dela, sem que você e a protagonista saibam de tudo do universo, como perguntas do tipo "Como o Mundo ficou assim?", "De onde surgiram essas máquinas?", "Por que a Aloy nasceu dentro de uma ruína dos antigos?", "Quem é Hades?", "Como funciona as tribos fora da região onde a Aloy nasceu?", etc. O único problema que vejo nesse jogo, é evidente que são as expressões faciais, que deixam a desejar até mesmo nas cutscenes!    … Expand

    9.5/10. It has fun and often challenging combat, a great art style, a beautiful world with different biomes to explore, fantastic presentation, an interesting story to see unfold, and a very good score to listen to while you play. Half a point off because it could use better facial animations/lip sync, but it's just during cut scenes and it doesn't ruin gameplay. I highly recommend this game.

    One of the best games I've played in my life. The environments, quests and characters are ever changing. The main story will grab you from the beginning with such a lovable main character "Aloy". Fantastic game in my opinion

    This game has: dinosaurs, robots, dinosaur robots, post-apocalyptic world, jaw-dropping graphics and animations, great storyline, and, to finish everything off, it has the best monster hunter/bow arrow combat I have ever seen in a game.
    Horizon Forbidden West is my most anticipated game (of maybe all time?).

    Un jeux très sympa mais vite répétitif, un AC like qui donne bien plus envie ceci dit.
    L'histoire se laisse regarder mais ne m'a pas convaincu de faire le 2nd, un comble quand la DA du 1 était la plus inspiré jamais vu.
    Au final on passera 50 bonnes heures en compagnie d'Aloy pour la quête principale et le DLC. Les annexes étant peu passionnant.

    A very solid and a very good title. I'm substracting 2 points, because it felt boring and grindy during some parts. Also the last boss is kind of a joke. Otherwise everything is top notch.

    Combat System / Gameplay: Oh my God! It's just amazing. I don’t have enough symbols to describe how great it is, there are enough weapons for different fighting styles, battles with cars are exciting and addictive, especially if you play on pre-max / max difficulty level, in this case, the game turns into a kind of challenge ... The artificial intelligence(AI) of robots deserves respect, but it should be said that in this contrast, battles with humans look weak.

    Open World / Side Quests / Characters: The world is full of different activities, side quests, hunting trials, etc. It all comes down to fighting ancient robots, and for me this is definitely an advantage of this game.
    Characters who live in different settlements are plastic and do not react in any way to the main character, you can literally jump over his heads. But this is typical for most role-playing games.

    Total: objectively this game is good, it has some problems and drawbacks. But playing it, getting carried away by the delightful gameplay and battles with robots, all these problems fade into the background.

    I'm looking forward to continuing on playstation 5 and hope that most of these problems will be eliminated.    … Expand

    The most overrated game i've ever played. Game let you in with an interesting intro and then uses all the dated video game tropes. Full of chore and bad npc conversations. It's like Ubisoft game. AC mixed with FC Primal but worse. It might have been okay in 2000's or early 2010's. HZD is late to the party.

By the halfway point I just wanted to be done with it, I was so fed up with the story, and the sidequests are so bland that I could predict them a mile away. Everything related to humans ends up in an ambush and everything related to machines ends up in a fight. Nothing interesting is discovered or achieved.

    The gameplay, minus the stupid AI, can be very satisfying, and while I think it's a bit shallow, I appreciate the mod system and the different ways you can customize your weapons and gear.    … Expand

    I can not recall another game that I accidently found myself exploring the world for literally hours. Platinumed the game when it came out on ps4, went back on ps5 after the performance update and fell back in love with the game and completed it on new game +. Looking forward to the next Horizon game.

    Horizon Zero Dawn was a surprise for me. When I played I didn't think it would be a great game but the narrative caught me and made me love and be passionate about the history of the game. Incredible gameplay.

    О сюжете. Он мне в принципе понравился. Запоминающиеся персонажи, есть тайны, есть и предательство. Но есть какая то недосказанность что ли.
    Теперь про внешний вид. Ну здесь думаю вопросов быть не может, он великолепен. Джунгли, города, но больше всего конечно порадовали машины. Роботов какое то невероятное количество, они красивые, брутальные, каждый со своим подходом. Очень понравились такие роботы-брахиозавры, они очень высокие, огромные, их видно из далека. Они представляют собой эдакие ходячие вышки из Far Cry. Немного огорчили враги люди, просто меркнут на фоне роботов. Так же мне не очень понравилась мимика людей.
    Порадовала боевая система, такая смесь Enslaved и Assassin’s Creed.
    В общем игра классная. Есть небольшие недостатки, на пример однообразные захваты поселений людей, на мой взгляд геймплей с людьми наиболее слабое место игры. Но плюсов у Horizon Zero Dawn в разы больше к ним можно прибавить и неповторимую атмосферу игры.
    Скоро выходит сиквел с подзаголовком Forbidden West, это повод освежить воспоминания и пройти игру ещё разок.    … Expand

    The story is vast, and not easy to follow unlike most video game plots. Certainly, the immeasurable greed of the corporate world and the consequences of pursuing monopoly are topics that are not represented in the mainstream entertainment industry enough (for understandable reasons). I found most side characters unilateral, but there is a mysterious one that makes up for it.

    ---Graphics & environment---
    I could go on and on about its artistic greatness but I just want to mention three things that got me the most. I can firmly state that this game has the most beautiful eye animation in any game still up to 2021. Even the eye and mimics of the n+1th side character was mesmerizing. Then there is Aloy's hair, which itself is a masterpiece. Thirdly, I enjoyed every single time when I heard Aloy’s echoing voice in the mountains, unique sound effect, that I have not experienced in other games.

    ---Combat & other mechanics---
    Fighting mechanics against machines were much better executed than human vs. human combat. I found aim assist non-existent against human enemies (I find this particularly crucial due to that fact that the game provided quite little space for aiming customization), and they could be very easily tricked by dodge + heavy attack combos. Although fights against robots showed great abundance and diversity. Stealth combat was also disappointing against humans, you just cannot kill 2 people next to each other without alarming the whole camp (I expected that if nor by melee hits I could take down 2 enemies standing next to each other with two quick arrow shots but it’s not possible). The way Hunting Grounds quests taught you insane tricks to fight gigantic beasts easily was utterly jaw-dropping. I loved that every beast had a weak point to be exploited. The variety of weapons and the creativity that was put into them was extraordinary. All in all, the game mechanics were entertaining, but I want to mention that I found the climbing/parkouring system too rudimentary.

    ---Skill & RPG elements---
    Considering the RPG elements, namely the levelling system and the skill tree were quite disappointing to me. I did not feel the need levelling up except for the bonus HP, since after around lvl 20 (when I already got extra skill points from side activities) I felt the remaining 2/3 skills so pointless and lazy. Picking up unused trap should not be the part of any skill trees. Some of the armour designs were quite imaginative, the armour and weapon customization were okay, nor revolutional. Crafting was manifold enough, but not exaggerated. One thing that I missed a lot was a stash to organize my loot. I maximized loot capacity quite early in the game, but I ended up organizing my pack in every 10 minutes.

    ---Technical stuff---
    Sometimes when I got into serious large-scale fights with robots, half of the loot despawned before the end of fight. This is quite annoying when they would certainly drop epic loot. Also, I found the bonfire save system inconsistent sometimes, which dripped some frustration in the gameplay experience.    … Expand

A lot of it just boils down to hiding behind some cover and spamming arrows at the robot until it dies, which can take a long time because every single enemy is a complete sponge. The melee combat is even worse. You have a light and strong attack. The light attack does practically no damage and is only really good for when you need to hit an enemy one more time before it dies, and the strong attack takes about 2 seconds to hit the enemy after you press the button. Neither of these feel good to use at all and I found it better to keep my distance and spam arrows . One thing that a lot of people seem to really like about this is the story. I think it's fine. It's fairly generic with you needing to stop this cult from destroying the world. It is also very clear that the developers came up with the idea for robot dinosaurs
    well before they thought of anything else. I think I might have enjoyed the story more if the cutscenes were hand animated and the didn't house some crappy automated lip sync thing that makes it look like two lifeless robots are talking to each other so that they didn't have to do as much work. It's honestly kind of distracting how bad it is since a good portion of the game is cutscenes. Despite all of this, I did somewhat enjoy my time with this game and managed to finish it by playing it on and off for about 6 months. With the complete edition for the game being only $20 now, I think everyone might as well play it, but in my opinion it's not all too great. Aside from the main character and her acquaintances (Erend and Sylens), everyone else feels a little too generic. Besides that, it's a fantastic game.

    Combat might feel repetitive unless you use everything at your disposal to its fullest potential. If you do that, there'll probably be no other game that impresses you more with it's combat. Some of the robots are strong enough to be in a boss battle but the bird robots just fly around like its nothing. They drain your resources and its very time consuming to drop some of these robots

    Very bad night, you can't see anything in battles, it's bad that you can't avoid night when you want like in Witcher or some other games. Other than that, pretty good game.

    Fail to see what's so amazing about this game. It has good visuals but boring and flat characters, a mediocre story and generic gameplay.

    Horizon Zero Dawn is significantly overrated. For an action RPG the game is lacking in four main areas. First, almost everything besides the main quests are incredibly boring. Second, close range combat is a joke. It's way too easy to get stuck in close range fights against multiple enemies where you basically just have to load a save game or die and try again.     I was really excited to finally be able to play this game. So much praise and all the trailers/screenshots looked fantastic. However, after having enjoyed the first five hours, the fun basically stopped entirely. Here are some aspects that stood out to me.

    | Story:
    There are essentially two stories in this game. One of the past, and the present story. In the game you're basically trying to figure out what happened to the world while unraveling the story of the past.
    The story of the present was pretty bad in my opinion and the world-background was the main thing that kept me going through this game. While not entirely original, it was intriguing and kept me wondering what would happen next.

    | Characters:
    Just terrible. Aloy, our protagonist, is one of the most annoying main-characters I've ever come across. While it is very refreshing to have a female lead that is not sexualized (in any way), she more than made up for that with stupid remarks and just an unlikeable attitude. The voice-actress was the best in the game, but the lines were just horrible.

    She also wouldn't stop chattering to herself with useless phrases that completely broke any sense of immersion. I generally dislike (game-) protagonists that are unable to shut their mouth for just two minutes, but this time around she really made me hate almost every minute I played.

    What also bothered me was that she always (and I mean ALWAYS) was right about everything. No matter how illogical her thinking was, she somehow always managed to exactly hit the mark on any "riddle" that presented itself. She never really seemed to struggle with anything and thus made a really uninteresting case of "I'm the chosen one so I cannot fail in any way".

    Pretty much every other character was simply a puppet used to advance the story in any possible way. No interesting "rivals", only incredibly stupid cardboard cutouts (although a lot dumber).

    | Visuals:
    This game is obviously gorgeous in almost every way. Every screenshot looks breath-taking and foliage looks convincing. However, there were some things that really bothered me and seemed too easy to fix.

    - rainy weather. I'm not sure if anybody at Guerilla ever experienced rain, but it certainly does not immediately put a black & white-filter over your eyes. Gameplay was heavily impeded by this, as visual clues get lost completely on a bright screen. It just does not look good.
    - caves. and subsequently, Aloy being too dumb to carry her own light around. Not sure if she has nightvision and doesn't care to share or if the developers had their screen-brightness on maximum. With HDR enabled, caves were a chore to plow through. Barely anything is visible and even machine lights do not help a lot with orientation. The world looked great at night though, so no idea what they f'ed up there.
    - terrain. It looked generally great (as I hinted at with the believable foliage) but stones basically always look like plastic. Not sure if this is a shader-issue, but I felt like playing in a sandpit with plastic rocks again.

    | Combat:
    While I think the idea of machines and vulnerable parts to shoot off is great, it just got boring after a while. It's cool that you can see the parts flying off and can then use them to craft other things, but the novelty wore off a lot faster than I expected.

    - Hit-detection (or lack thereof). My biggest gripe with the ranged combat was the hit-detection. Not only are there numerous invisible walls throughout the game (even in boss-fights) but arrows also sometimes go straight through enemies. Being in an intense fight just to either see three arrows stuck in the air before me or have several consecutive arrows go straight through human heads (WTF) without dealing damage makes me want to throw my controller until it's considered micro-plastic. Seriously, how did they not manage to fix stuff like this in four years??
    - close combat. Honestly some of the worst melee I've experienced in years. Not only do animations take ages, they also cannot be cancelled and the lack of a lock-on feature completely killed it. Luckily, there aren't many situations that require its use.

    | Other things:
    - Dialogue. Holy **** is it bad. I had to laugh out loud at almost every other sentence with how stupid it was. Not sure if this is due to the studios lack of experience with open-world games, but damn the game took itself WAY too seriously and 95% of all sentences made no sense. Voice acting (except for the two main-characters) was also very sub-par. My opinion probably was also influenced by the horrible facial-animations. Another heavy task, of course, but damn it removed every ounce of respect I had left for the dialogue.
    - Inventory. Not talking about UI here (it was pretty good actually) but how space is managed. Basically, it's like the inventory in Minecraft, just with stacks of 50 items. The problem is that it is full WAY too fast and usually with items you never need    … Expand

    The unfortunate fact of Horizon is that most of what it does well, other games have done better, and they did it with a compelling who and where. This is the game you play after you’ve finished The Witcher 3, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, and Far Cry: Primal. It is the greatest hits compilation of open-world games. Yeah, sure, you might want to own it, but the real connoisseur has the original albums.

    Horizon Zero Dawn has an unforgettable protagonist, world, story, visuals, soundtrack and gameplay. Due to minor issues with inventory management and quest selection, I cannot call it perfect but I can say it is absolutely worth your time.
