    I remember experiencing this game back in 2020 during the pandemic after hearing the sequel and was hyped SEVERELY. So much so I played both games and loved them and after experiencing Ragnarok, I went back to play this game again and I can definitely say I prefer Ragnarok but that shouldn't take away the fact this is probably one of if not the best PS4 game of it's generation. So much so I played both games and loved them and after experiencing Ragnarok, I went back to play this game again and I can definitely say I prefer Ragnarok but that shouldn't take away the fact this is probably one of if not the best PS4 game of it's generation. So the story for this game might not be as good as Ragnarok, but it's still amazing primarily of what was established in the previous games since the main character was been through a lot and that's not something him and you don't want your kid to go through all over again because your past will always catch up with you but before I get into the bigger picture, I wanna talk about the other great parts. This game looks amazing on a PS4 Pro not necessarily for the graphics, but for the art style as it helps the graphics stand on it's 2 legs and ensure it looks great evennowadays, the combat might feel strange especially since this is coming off of a franchise with fixed camera angles, absolute chaos, and especially MASSIVE boss fights to help you feel satisfied you did it, in this game, it's pretty much an over-the-shoulder one shot camera so you're up close to the action and I would argue this improves upon the franchise since it helps you feel like Kratos with how the camera never cuts and you're up close meaning you feel like you're there when creating a massacre on the battlefield. Actually creating a massacre is pretty damn easy with how well the combat flows since it can feel incredible to understand the combat and make your enemies look like pathetic obstacles in your way. The level design is great since it's complex enough for there to be decent puzzles that aren't solvable immediately and you need to genuinely think about how you're gonna deal with it. There was also this one time when I was opening a crate and there was a jumpscare and it genuinely got me, so much so that even though it only happened once, it was enough to the point where I took a step back whenever I saw another crate even during the entirety of God of War: Ragnarok. The side quests are great since they are connected to the lore and not just filler to increase the run time. The dialogue, performances, soundtrack, and writing are top tier and ensure you are incredibly immersed throughout the entire game and the boss battles are good just enough to remind everyone they're playing a God of War game. Now while there are some sections of the map that are locked behind a certain wall meaning you'll have to come back later, I would argue this comes to the games benefit since it means you'll come back later with the equipment you need, but then you'll also find something else on that same island you initially missed you need to get closer to full completion. But all of this is just an extension of the bigger picture since there's more to this story than just the characters, graphics, combat, side quests, story, or even the destination itself: it's the entire journey. Throughout this game, the journey you go through feels relateable since it feels wonderfully paced and helps a father and son learn to trust each other no matter what which in turn helps you relate to these characters even further. Now there are some problems like the enemy variety since most of the time you will face the exact same mini boss over and over again and this easily gets repetitive, the end game is good but not great since you need to do a decent amount of grinding but that personally never bothered me, but the main thing that bothered me personally was how it tries to tell a story similar to The Last of Us but doesn't quite succeed with how the stakes don't feel high and instead you only feel improved in those stakes instead of stripped down and desperate. But with all that being said, this game is absolutely incredible and succeeds on all fronts to ensure it's a genuine masterpiece. If you happen to have a PS4, why haven't you ever picked up this game when it first came out? But now that it's on PC and even verified for the Steam Deck, there's no better time to pick up this masterpiece than right now.… Expand

    Great game from an already great serie, lack some boss battles but i can pass that since its a new begining, deep story, respecting and enhancing the OG games.

    Never played God of War before. Big lover of Scandinavian mythology, so, when i saw a video-memes about this game i purchased this game in ps store. So, what i got? At first, game seemed to be boring and monotonous. But after an hour it turned me into 12 years old boy who cant break away from the monitor. Story, gameplay, setting. All of that was amazing. Cant wait for sequel.

    One of the best games I've played in my life. Fighting mechanics, graphics, storytelling etc everything is great. It only has 2 issues for me, one of which is the lack of Quicktime events and the lack of boss battles in older games.

    I don't see why anyone would hate on this game. Characters and their development are amazing, combat is amazing, story is amazing. It feels rewarding when you become a better player, side quests related to the world and the norse mythology and outstanding graphics and music.

    Been a fan of this franchise since I was a kid, but i would've loved this game even if i wasn't. Except from the fact that people do not need to play the previous games to understand the story(although i would recommend playing them), it has an outstanding story, touching real life problems such as loss, anger issues and a father trying to bond with his kid.     It's an awesome game, great gameplay and combats, deep well rounded characters and beautiful graphics.
    It doesn't get a 10 from me because of the exhausting number of collectables. So many mods that it gets super overwhelming and makes you loose hours and hours in the office to basically do nothing.
    Next one, please simplify the collectables and mods.

    I never played any of the previous GoW. I quickly watched a story recap of the other games and boy this game was amazing. Visuals, story and combat were fantastic. Was gutted to finish the game and cant wait for ragnarok. I hope they dont rush is and make it as great as this

    PS4 banger, the gameplay bossfights and nordic ancient worlds and creatures excuted perfectly with such a graphics, Kratos ofcourse is wiser now and more responsible but not less destructive, everything in this game is perfect yet the plot was more of a link than it’s being the thing, Ragnarok so it seems will be the epic sequel, God of war 2018 is a 9.5/10 for me

    This game does everything it tries to do masterfully, the combat is one of the best, most nuanced ones I've ever seen, the story is externally simple, yet internally clever and complex, and he visuals and music are absolutely stunning. Puzzle elements can be obnoxious and bog pacing, as frequent as they are, but don't take much away from the brilliance.

Before this game came out the God of War series was a hack and slash franchise with a mediocre story but always lived up to the excitement with its gameplay and bosses. That all changes with this, the game is a simi open world but there are still plenty of things to do. Kratos now has a son and they work so well together from the moment you meet Kratos and Atreus. The camera is behind Kratos this time and he doesn’t use the Blades of Chaos he uses the Leviathan Axe or Stormbreaker. Using the axe has to be one of the best video game weapons I have ever used, taking off your back and throwing it off a mountain then calling it back to slice a enemy’s head off amazing. Christopher Judge does a phenomenal job he just has that deep voice that really gets under your skin. On top of that we have fantastic music as well to set up the tone of fighting huge dragons to human monster hybrids. The developers went all out and gave us a story that is a first for the series amazing, on top of that it’s all shot in one take. You can go from killing a enemy and all of a sudden it’s a cutscene, unless you die there are no edits to this game and it makes the story have more of an impact on you. I can’t recommend this game enough if you have a PS4 get it because now it’s like 10 bucks.… Expand

    Heard the praise and when I got to playing it I was not disappointed. This quickly became one of my favourite games; the mixture cinematic emotionful story telling and engaging gameplay was perfect for me to be fully invested and be entertained till the very end.

    For me by all means the GOTY of 2018 on PS4, the release on PC made me come back to this game reminding me of the fun i had with it, its just hands down, top 5 of my favorite games

    Fantastic Game.

    Played on PS5. The game ran well and the story is very engaging.

    The game doesn't drag on and makes you want to keep playing.

    Felt the puzzles could have been more difficult and the hints should be able to be turned off.

    Old God Of War games had a good gameplay and story. So they loved by people. But this game changed mostly things from old games for example gameplay, character design, story telling etc. And this game did all of this things better, and became legend. This game is best game i think. I am very excited for the next game.

    I did't play previous GoW and still the plot was so absorbing and interesting that I've finshed most of the additional quest, just to get to know the history better. Fantastic creations. Additional plus for my dubbing which was incredible as original voices. I'm waiting for more games like this.

The story is normal at best, the game relies on a lot of repetitive combat and puzzles with little variety of enemies.     Es bastante bueno. Una gran historia, con unos personajes con gran carisma, los cuales los hace grandiosos. Un combate que parece bastante a un souls menos frenético. Un gran titulo.

    The story isn't very good and the difficulty is too much for people who never beat dark souls without dying at all in first try. But i gotta admit, it is very satisfying to kill an enemy. So if you're a casual gamer, pick easy mode. (AND THIS **** DOESN'T DESERVE GOTY 2018)

    I think it is a decent game, but in my opinion slightly overrated. Story is okay, pretty solid actually. Gameplay is not very original and sometimes fighting system becomes very unfair. Open-world is just average with side activities like "kill 100500 Odin's crows". But overall this game is fine and entertaining and it deserve to be played

    Обзор будет краток. Игра года 2018 и игра всех времен по опросу IGN. Я не спорю с тем, что игра хороша, и мне самому она очень нравится.     For me this game was amazing. The gameplay, story, characters and every part of this game was amazing. I played this on a ps5 with improved Fps. If you own a ps4 or just got a ps5 this game is a must play.

    this is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played - hands down. The settings and the characters are all amazing , the voice acting and the story are incredible and the overall look and feel of every part of this game is truly awesome. Even though this play-style isn't really my thing I found myself enthralled by the story and had to keep playing in order to see where it all went - I genuinely cared for the protagonists and developed soft spots for the rest of the characters as well.

    it helps that I am a huge fan of mythology and am already familiar with many of the gods and powers and themes that make up this game. A truly unique idea executed extremely well.

    however - this typeof gameplay is not my thing. Having a main character who can't jump and walks like he is wading through knee deep vaseline is frustrating to me. I find the camera to be extra annoying and just wish it would zoom out a bit .. particularly during combat - but I made do and quickly realized that there isn't a lot of 'play' in this game - it's more like a heavily guided heavily scripted story that you guide your characters through. Every time I played this I would be slightly annoyed by just getting around and the camera during combat was just silly. I understand that this bad camera is apparently part of the charm of this game for many - but not for me. The lacklustre controls and repetitive nature of the combat caused me to drop this from a solid 9 down to a 7.

    I really appreciated the level design in this game - even though you can't freely explore much at all there are still a ton of hidden areas and regions that you can have to come back to later in the game - after acquiring abilities and equipment that allow you to access new areas. This is maybe my favourite part of the game to be honest.

    the boss fights - wow. again not the most entertaining as far as actual game play and skill go - but holy crap are they ever amazing to watch. I'll be honest the over-the-top death animations and R3 kills didn't do much for me - but that's just me and some kids really like that sort of thing.

    final word - I almost think I would rather watch this as a series than play it as a video game. most of the time I felt like I was chained to the rails anyways and was just waiting for the right time to press X or press O - but the incredible level design and unique story overpowered any negative feelings I had about the controls and combat and I am pretty sure that I will remember God of War for a long time to come.    … Expand

Plus these enemies in the hidden chambers known as valkeries (How ever its spelt) are stupidly difficult compared to the rest of the game. Basically all of the bosses on hard mode are easier then valkaries on easy mode? Their attacks have unusual timings with no consistency. You get the flash but sometimes its 2 seconds and then other times its 5 seconds so you don't know when to dodge. 1 of them has an attack which flashes yellow meaning to block but then follows up with an attack that you need to evade but the block causes you to be stunned so you can't evade. So why isn't that attack marked as an unblockable attack because the full attack cannot be blocked and must be dodged? Another one does an attack which you need to attack them to cancel it. Cannot be dodged nor blocked, but if you miss your axe and your to far away to hit them and arrows are recharging then you'll die or have an almost empty health bar. If the game was this difficult throughout then I wouldn't care but its the fact that they are stupidly difficult compared to everything else you are going up against. Plus some of there attacks should have clearer timings as some of them look similar but have different timings. I can bet that allot of people just skipped them because of how stupid they are. If I wanted to be stuck in the same places for ages dying before I got a lucky kill then I would play the souls games. I found myself constantly switching to easy and then back to hard again just for these chambers. I shouldn't have to do that if these parts were scripted better.
    Other then that the game is fun. Some of the characters are humorous and the game is portrayed really well. The puzzles are good and the best part is that it doesn't constantly tell you how to do everything. I hate it when games do that, why give me a puzzle then show me how to complete it because I spent 10 seconds looking at everything to work out how it fits together. This game allows the player to think for them selves.
    I also found it easy to follow the story. There was never a time I didn't have a clue what was going on. There is also side missions and stuff aswell which give you bonus items to aid your quest. You also find bonus stuff around the map aswell.    … Expand

    God of War is a near perfect game to me and I love every element that this game has to offer.

    The story is a fantastic, deep, layered story that is so entertaining to watch. Every cutscene added to the story in a way that made me want to play for hours at a time. The combat is so extremely smooth. If gives a challenge, while also is rewarding. They world is so beautifully designed. I    God of War is a near perfect game to me and I love every element that this game has to offer.

    Upgrading weapons is so extremely satisfying to me. It is a very rewarding experience. When upgrading weapons, there is a noticeable difference when fighting the same enemies.

    Many more elements to this game made me absolutely in love with it. I cannot wait for the sequel. I recommend this game to just about anyone that can handle a little blood and gore from defeating enemies.    … Expand

    I am, and actually was, a fan of the series. I went through all parts of the game starting from ps2, through ps3 and psp, ending with the remaster on ps4. This part is a break with the previous formula, it is very boring, slow, annoying playability, stretched out fights , annoying kid. Not recommended.
