    I remember experiencing this game back in 2020 during the pandemic after hearing the sequel and was hyped SEVERELY. So much so I played both games and loved them and after experiencing Ragnarok, I went back to play this game again and I can definitely say I prefer Ragnarok but that shouldn't take away the fact this is probably one of if not the best PS4 game of it's generation. So theI remember experiencing this game back in 2020 during the pandemic after hearing the sequel and was hyped SEVERELY. So much so I played both games and loved them and after experiencing Ragnarok, I went back to play this game again and I can definitely say I prefer Ragnarok but that shouldn't take away the fact this is probably one of if not the best PS4 game of it's generation. So the story for this game might not be as good as Ragnarok, but it's still amazing primarily of what was established in the previous games since the main character was been through a lot and that's not something him and you don't want your kid to go through all over again because your past will always catch up with you but before I get into the bigger picture, I wanna talk about the other great parts. This game looks amazing on a PS4 Pro not necessarily for the graphics, but for the art style as it helps the graphics stand on it's 2 legs and ensure it looks great evennowadays, the combat might feel strange especially since this is coming off of a franchise with fixed camera angles, absolute chaos, and especially MASSIVE boss fights to help you feel satisfied you did it, in this game, it's pretty much an over-the-shoulder one shot camera so you're up close to the action and I would argue this improves upon the franchise since it helps you feel like Kratos with how the camera never cuts and you're up close meaning you feel like you're there when creating a massacre on the battlefield. Actually creating a massacre is pretty damn easy with how well the combat flows since it can feel incredible to understand the combat and make your enemies look like pathetic obstacles in your way. The level design is great since it's complex enough for there to be decent puzzles that aren't solvable immediately and you need to genuinely think about how you're gonna deal with it. There was also this one time when I was opening a crate and there was a jumpscare and it genuinely got me, so much so that even though it only happened once, it was enough to the point where I took a step back whenever I saw another crate even during the entirety of God of War: Ragnarok. The side quests are great since they are connected to the lore and not just filler to increase the run time. The dialogue, performances, soundtrack, and writing are top tier and ensure you are incredibly immersed throughout the entire game and the boss battles are good just enough to remind everyone they're playing a God of War game. Now while there are some sections of the map that are locked behind a certain wall meaning you'll have to come back later, I would argue this comes to the games benefit since it means you'll come back later with the equipment you need, but then you'll also find something else on that same island you initially missed you need to get closer to full completion. But all of this is just an extension of the bigger picture since there's more to this story than just the characters, graphics, combat, side quests, story, or even the destination itself: it's the entire journey. Throughout this game, the journey you go through feels relateable since it feels wonderfully paced and helps a father and son learn to trust each other no matter what which in turn helps you relate to these characters even further. Now there are some problems like the enemy variety since most of the time you will face the exact same mini boss over and over again and this easily gets repetitive, the end game is good but not great since you need to do a decent amount of grinding but that personally never bothered me, but the main thing that bothered me personally was how it tries to tell a story similar to The Last of Us but doesn't quite succeed with how the stakes don't feel high and instead you only feel improved in those stakes instead of stripped down and desperate. But with all that being said, this game is absolutely incredible and succeeds on all fronts to ensure it's a genuine masterpiece. If you happen to have a PS4, why haven't you ever picked up this game when it first came out? But now that it's on PC and even verified for the Steam Deck, there's no better time to pick up this masterpiece than right now.… Expand

    I love the god of war games the story at fun combat . And replaying the game in 2022 on my RTX 3070 TI PC on ultrawide was a lot of fun. So thank you God of war 5. I did ended like the combat and world than in my first played . I did wish there was a a field of view setting. So you can adjust st your vision. Kratos was what I still love after God of war 3 .     Perfect game, it was too short for me I could have played this awesome story for a few hours more.
    Perfect combat and gameplay, I done all the side quests, New game + was not for me but everything was really enjoyable and can present a great challenge.
    Characters, story, fun 10/10

Well written and produced for the most part, but what were they thinking with all the elemental trolls every 5 mins? Also doesn't feel anywhere near as grandiose as its ps3 predecessor.     Zwar habe ich die Teile davor nie gespielt und habe von God of War nie was gehört, war ich wirklich begeistert von diesem Spiel, als ich es dann doch durchgespielt habe. So eine Story wie hier habe ich noch nie gesehen und das Gameplay hat sich sehr smooth angefühlt. Einzig die doch etwas kleine Boss-Variationen und das spammen von Truhen und Schätzen haben mich etwas gestört

    One of the more compelling games to release for the PS4 that remains consistently entertaining throughout with its interesting and well-paced story and its challenging combat. It has plenty of post-game content to sift through as well if you still want more after you are done with the main story.

    I never really enjoyed the first 3 games so I started this one with no expectations at all. I was so surprised I much I loved playing this game and I even went for all the trophies! A really great game!

    I could say that is a different game than previous one, god of war 3. But it's still masterpiece with nice design levels which I liked to explore. History is very interesting although I heard many opinions that 3rd part was more intense which is true. This game is similar to Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order in many aspects, specially in exploring new levels.     A damn near perfect game that nails both the gameplay and cinematic aspects. It's both one of the most addicting and enjoyable combat loops of recent memory, and it presents a story that drew me in and kept me invested. An easy recommendation to anyone who enjoys gaming.

    O único motivo da nota não ser 10, é a pouca variedade de inimigos presentes no jogo.

    Pretty fun game with a well-built world that leaves me wanting more. Feels like I got done binging a season of TV. My dislikes are mostly the repeating execution animations and dialogue being interrupted during traveling transitions or turning away being drowned out.

    Finally played this game and it was really underwhelming. I kept waiting for it to get better and it's really just a beat em up like Streets of rage or TMNT with better graphics. They really hold your hand in the game. Normal difficulty is super easy and I'm not a great player or anything. I got really bored with it.

    It is not a masterpiece, but is a great game nonetheless. If the protagonist was not Kratos, the game would be just another one, but putting him in the game does not make the game any better.

    Decent open world game, quite lengthy, lots of grinding and puzzles, some puzzles feel like whipped up in a hurry. Story telling sometimes feels like an too long podcast on autoplay. It was okay when they did it here in 2018, in 2022 doing it for the second time it felt repetitive.

    The game has beautiful graphics, but the worst mistake a company can do to their customers is change the product that was beloved. God of War 3 is one of the best games I've ever played. You do a spinning attack and everything around Kratos is minced meat, while in God of War 4 a bug-like human can destroy me in 4 blows. I swing my axe and i might not even land a hit.

    Many people think that the game has "changed" and is not like any of the previous 3 installments. But infact they have improved upon everything phenomenally

    Holy crap Christopher Judge is an amazing voice actor!!! Also, yeah, this game is amazing, besides the generic title and the generic designs some enemies have this game is really engaging. The way you earn new abilities to keep you entertained is also a nice touch. This game definitely stands among the rest of the franchise as a certified masterpiece.

The 360 grades change that this saga has suffered is the best change in the history of videogames. The combat feels amazing, there are a lot of combos, perks, hablities to improve and master them. The story is amazing. A 10/10 villain, a 10/10 relationship between Kratos andMy favorite game so this review could not be that objective as i would want. But for me this is a masterpiece. The 360 grades change that this saga has suffered is the best change in the history of videogames. The combat feels amazing, there are a lot of combos, perks, hablities to improve and master them. The story is amazing.     Жаль в бою весьма немного анимаций добивания противников, это бросается в глаза, и самих оппонентов тоже не много. Но как же красива в игре визуальная составляющая, и как же интересно в игре путешествовать. В итоге оторваться от игры не возможно до самых титров.

Сюжет здесь довольно посредственный, графика звук и тд хорошие, попадаются интересные виды но в целом ничего сверхестественного. Бои к концу игры нагоняют скуку, я абсолютно не чувствую что играю за бога войны.

    This game is a Masterpiece. The graphics are gorgeous, the combat is very satisfying and the story is amazing. God Of War 2018 is my favorite game.

    When a God of War game was announced I was very skeptical at first. Reviving a dead franchise is very risky and very hard, there are many expectations and many challenges.
    How can you possibly continue a character that whole idea is to kill stuff mercilessly? How can you improve a universe that has virtually been destroyed?

    A new beginning for the series with drastical changes made to the gameplay and direction of the game. But BOY the changes feel awesome. The combat, the graphics and the soundtrack together with the exploration and the gameplay itself just makes up for some lacking and repetitive bossfights. That's the only negative aspect for me .. except from that this game is one of the best of this generation.

    I love this game from the start it throws you into the action and never loses its speed.
    The story is one of the best stories ever and they made the combat even better than the original games.

    Storyline was decent. I haven't played all the previous games to know the nuance of the character, however the relationship between Kratos and his son was rewarding and worthwhile. Gameplay was really average for me. RPG elements were poorly introduced, much of the game was spent traversing terrain that became stale once the beauty of the world wore off, combat was bland and very jankyStoryline was decent.     A great renovation for the game that features a character that fits into different battle contexts, I thought it was fantastic, in addition to a game with great gameplay both for PS4 where I had already played and PS5 where I played for the second time.

Également le fait qu'il y ait plein de monde non visitable, ça m'a un peu déçu. Le jeu a une belle durée de vie, avec la possibilité de rejouer tout en ayant de nouveaux équipements.     I must say that after playing God Of War Ragnarok, I realize that this game set the bar very high, a very creative story, very good fights, excellent gameplay, very good graphics, a more than entertaining difficulty (without reaching the level frustrating), it left so much expectation that it was impossible to ruin the sequel, in my opinion this game is a Masterpiece, which its sequel didI must say that after playing God Of War Ragnarok, I realize that this game set the bar very high, a very creative story, very good fights, excellent gameplay, very good graphics, a more than entertaining difficulty (without reaching the level frustrating), it left so much expectation that it was impossible to ruin the sequel, in my opinion this game is a Masterpiece, which its sequel did not know how to finish off.     The story telling and the cinematics were fantastic and engaging. The battel system was good and pretty easy to use. The whole game is fantastic and they really did an excellent job and took their time with everything and being quick to fix player issues.

    At first impression I put the game down and said I’ll redownload another day. I wasn’t into it. Then one day I felt the urge to give it an honest attempt. I now have the game platinumed. All other games I was playing at the time became irrelevant, including Witcher 3, Bloodborne, and Divinity Original Sin 2. It took my attention away from masterpieces. You tell me what that means.

I've recently started playing Ragnarok and it's just reaffirmed to me how good this 2018 installment of God of War actually is. I never played any of the pervious games, so if that's stopping you buying it.... think again. Play this and play it asLet's be honest here. This is one of the greatest games of all time.     Yeeees yes, if we look at it, there are some nitpicks here and there ... but, in the end:
    It's A game. It was finished, graphics, sounds, fighting system, characters, story.
    GOW is really doing a very very good job in all of these aspects. Nothing new - really, but we don't need new here, we need more. We got more. I am happy!

    One one the best continuations of an older video game series of all time, I haven't played the older god of war games but I do know much about them. I had to platinum this game because of it's incredible graphics and gameplay and mainly it's incredible character building.

    Да игра выглядит просто офигенно. На экране всегда что то происходит, кто то бегает или что то падает. Анимация выше всяких похвал. И вообще к визуальной составляющей вопросов ни каких. Это пример для подражания.
    Боёвка. Ну, что боёвка, она изменилась. Как это сейчас модно, кнопки сменили на Dark Souloвские. Но    Ну вот, God of War: Ragnarök вышел, а я решил вспомнить God of War 2018 года.

    Боёвка. Ну, что боёвка, она изменилась. Как это сейчас модно, кнопки сменили на Dark Souloвские. Но привыкаешь быстро. Сильно изменился темп битвы. Он стал каким то более медленным, тягучим. Камера сместилась на вид почти из за плеча. Враги хорошо реагируют на попадания.
    Головоломки, сундуки остались на месте, но стали интересней.
    История длинная и интересная, особенно если хоть немного знать мифы о скандинавских богах.
    Персонажи тоже как на подбор, один лучше другого.
    Теперь о не однозначном.
    В игре есть промежуточные боссы. Это такие 5 метровые инеистые тролли с обломанными рогами, их много, но...
    Есть одно но. Все они совершенно одинаковые, один со льдом, другой с огнем, третий с электричеством, каждый имеет своё имя. Но бой и внешность на всех одна. Как будто на них у разработчиков кончилась фантазия.
    Ещё очень не хватало боссов-гигантов. Это же God of War в конце концов. Был снежный гигант Йотун в конце игры, но он боссом так и не стал. Это же касается и Ёрмунганда, мы путешествуем в нём, но с ним не сражаемся.
    Так же не раскрыто большинство миров, в скандинавской мифологии их девять. И в игре они все есть. Но исследовать дают только три, это Альвхейм, Хельхейм и Йотунхейм. Так же можно открыть ещё два: Муспельхейм и Нифльхейм, но эти миры бонусные и в них нас ждут только арены боёв и бонусы открываемые за определённый лут. Больше в них делать нечего. Но надеюсь мы увидим все девять миров в God of War: Ragnarök.
    Итак, последнее это скорее придирки. Игра великолепная. Одна из лучших на PS4. А теперь ещё её можно попробовать и на PC.    … Expand

    This is just as amazing as its predecessor, good quality animations, great character development, flawless and intense combat system, incredible graphics, a really good amount of bosses and side quests, many more locations and character. the only thing I didn't like was the final boss, It was way too easy. But this is a masterpiece, no doubt

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Rebirth requires courage. Like Kratos, God of War 2018 leaves the past behind, seeking change.

    In the storyline, Kratos moved to Scandinavia from Southern Europe, had a new wife and a son. Upon the woman's death, Kratos and his son Atreus journey to scatter her ashes from the highest peak of the Nine Worlds of Norse mythology. But that's just the incipit and there's no lack of plot twists and turning points. The writing is good and compelling, including dialogues, characters and the edgy Kratos-Atreus relationship. Important issues are accepting the past, creating a new and better future. It's with the merciful killing of Æsir god Baldur, that Kratos truly proves to have changed. "The cycle ends here, we must be better". This way Kratos saves Atreus, saves Baldur's mother Freya - she willing to be killed by him is secondary - and also saves Baldur from making a mistake to which, yes, death is preferable. Similarly to Arthur Morgan, Kratos takes back what belongs to him: dignity. Other people in video games, e.g. Joel Miller, should learn.

    God of War needed a refresh, however, I was skeptical of the new gameplay formula. Surprisingly, the game is "more game" than I expected. Compared to the old games, God of War 2018 is certainly more technical. The Leviathan Axe, which can be thrown and recalled, is brilliant and has glacial properties, so it freezes enemies in place if thrown. Comeback of the Blades of Chaos in the second half of the game adds variation enough to partially turn combat upside-down as they require different tactics; their flaming chained rotation allows for better crowd control, limiting encirclements. Both weapons have spectacular magical light and heavy runic attacks that require cooldown and can be upgraded. The game requires efficient use of parrying and dodging, hand-to-hand combat and shield hits inflicts minor damage but unbalance and stun opponents. Bare-handed attacks reload the Spartan Rage, a power which temporarily makes Kratos an invulnerable furious boxer. Health must be restored by stepping healing orbs on the ground while Resurrection Stones (1 at a time) can bring Kratos back to life. Combat is impactful, satisfying and fun. The game goes beyond mere weapon upgrading like in the old games and is closer to RPGs: Kratos can of course upgrade weapons and unlock new moves but can also obtain, buy, or upgrade armor pieces and set from blacksmith dwarves Brok and Sindri. There are attack, defense, etc. parameters which can be altered with talismans and spells. Equipment has various rarity ranks with different colors and comes in various levels. Equipment level shapes Kratos' overall level, from 1 to 9, which is opposed to that of the enemies; this level ratio shapes the toughness of enemies. Companion Atreus is important with his bow and melee attacks and he can be upgraded as well. The game has an open world component, with enjoyable side quests and activities. There are good puzzles that also require freezing and burning properties of weapons to be solved.

    However, balance of such gameplay is delicate. I finished the game story and the Valkyries in "Hard" mode, so I think I know what I'm saying. First mistake: often, enemies are too numerous. Such slow gameplay allows to manage two or three enemies at a time; usually the number is the double at least. Second mistake: Kratos is too slow and clumsy. Enemies score chained slashes without the player being able to move Kratos (which is still finishing his animations) out of the way. Command input is just void. In general, it's clear developers used Kratos/enemies speed ratio to artificially increase difficulty. The pinnacle of this is Valkyries being way too fast for Kratos, some of their attacks are almost impossible to avoid, which constitutes the bulk of their challenge. Also, too much and too many different types of collectibles, making the game sometimes distracting and confusing. The game is certainly violent, however it lacks the gore of the old games which is an unjustified absence as much as it's unjustified the lack of purely human enemies or good old gigantic bosses, except a few.

    Graphically, the game is great, one of the most beautiful games on PlayStation 4. Great character models, little graphic details (joints, engravings, stretch marks) are very sharp. Environments and effects visuals are stunning. The audio component is equally high in quality. Rock-solid frame rate holds the gameplay action up. Overall, a notable tech achievement on the console end-of-life.

    God of War 2018 was a gamble. In the name of renewal, the game was at risk of losing its series identity. Cory Barlog and his team managed to make a different, yet worthy, God of War game, with a solid and technical gameplay and a compelling storyline. The graphics and weight of everything is gorgeous and it just works. The story is so fantastic and a huge eye-opener in the direction of where God of War has gone. They created one of the defining titles of the current generation and a technical marvel whose stunning beauty in motion words cannot describe. And there’s one more thing.
