    Positives
    - The story is amazing, gripping, full of fun twists, and packed with real drama that emotionally resonates. - The characters are top-tier, so nuanced, deep, and compelling.     Positives

    - The characters are top-tier, so nuanced, deep, and compelling. Kratos and Atreus are so great, their relationship pulls on your heart strings. They take a less is more approach with Kratos, he doesn't say much but when he does it is profound and revealing. I love it.
    - Lore and worldbuilding is 10/10 it is such a cool mixture of the God of War lore, Greek mythos, and Norse mythos. Very creative and well realized. Also for those who played the original trilogy, this is a soft reboot, that still seems to count the original three games as canon.
    - Combat, the combat feels good and weighty, the more abilities you get the more complex it is. I love the combat in this game, and being able to control Atreus to a degree is awesome.
    - Puzzles and locations are also great, there are some amazing puzzles and some of the locations are just beautiful!

    Negatives
    - More back tracking then necessary for a metroidvania. I can't tell you how many times you complete a huge and long fetch quests in the main story only to get to where you need to go and find out you still don't have what you need so you go back through areas you have already cleared to get something else. This formular is rinsed and repeated far too often in this game. Sure there are more items and loot you can get with your new abilities, but with such a story driven game it just felt like it bogged the story down to an unnecessary degree. I don't know if this game needed to metroidvania style backtracking. I think it needs to pick whether it is a third person linear story telling game or a god of war game in the style of the older games.
    - Enemy design is far to repetitive. I thought the enemy diversity was really good for the first third of the game, but after that point you are fighting stronger versions of the enemies you have already seen in nearly every encounter. It gets to the point where they just have to throw more of the same thing at you to keep tings challenging, it just feels lazy.

    If the enemy design was more diverse and there was less backtracking this game is an easy 10. Hopefully the sequel will improve on this. FYI I played on PS5 and the graphics and frame rate were great, definitely recommend 4K if you can.    … Expand

Terrible, repetitive combat and boss battles with little to no enemy variety. Puzzles take two seconds to complete and are only difficult and challenging if you're 7 years old. Open world is absolutely awful where you have to spam quicktime events all the time to get anything done properly. The story is an actual mess, with no motives other than to go scatter some ashes of a woman we have NEVER MET so don't even care about, whilst random, terribly written enemies come to attack you because this game needs some sort of plotline. Just as the game is about to get kind of interesting, when you find out that Atreus is Loki, it ENDS. By far the worst God of War game and one of the most overrated games I have played in a long time. To give this game of the year back in 2018 was an actual crime.… Expand

    Played it again recently for the first time since launch. Was way more thorough with it - didn't complete everything but I came pretty close. What a damn game. Seriously. Phenomenal.

    There is no other option but to give it a full 10/10. This is simply one of, if not the, favorite games of all time. The storytelling, the music, the scenetic views, and the game mechanics are just unmatched

    Clearly too many paid reviews here, the score does not reflect the game at all. Was a huge fan of GOW games up to now, the originals were still much better! It's a mediocre game at best but lacks the controls and battle system that made GOW great in the first place.

    (10) Outstanding. A truly elite title that is nearly perfect in every way. This score is given out rarely and indicates a game that cannot be missed.

    What was once just a hack and slash is now a proper game. The reboot of the franchise is well done. It keeps it’s hack and slash gameplay while finessing their narrative growth. God of War (2018) delivers on all fronts, graphics, combat, music, story, and characters. They moved into Norse mythology and has a more cinematic feeling. This is a story and a boy and his father. The Ghost of Sparta has grown emotionally and yearning for a better life and has much to learn about being a father. The boy learning to be a man and getting to know himself, who will also struggle emotionally. Together they journey to spread the ashes of their spouse/mother and learn to trust each other and strengthen their bond.    … Expand

    Confesso que nem sou fã de God Of War mas dei uma chance, gostei, já zerei 2 vezes mas não acho que é isso tudo que falam não, o Sonysta fanático tem mania de hypar os exclusivos ao extremo, mas o jogo é legal, quanto ao Ragnarok que tá pra sair esses dias, só vou jogar se cair de graça na minha mão, não sou fã pra chegar ao ponto de pagar caro num jogo

    The game is a completely different style from the rest of this game series, and it turned out to be really wonderful. It had a great story and great gameplay, especially the physics of throwing the ax was wonderfully designed, and the design of the environments was really satisfying.

    This game is my absolute favorite out of all time. I really had a beautiful time playing it. The story really catched me and i couldn't stop playing. I obviously had its problems for example the lack of enemy variety, but the gameplay and story really made up for it. Also in my opinion its a perfect start in the series.     Strong gameplay. Weak plot. Not really an open world. World feels small and narrow. Lack of human NPCs and limited choice. Fast travel is very limited and time consuming. Rich crafting system that feels too grindy.

    1. Worst camera choice

    Most of the enemies are very generic and the difficulty curve is completely artificial where higher-leveled enemies don't get stunned so you can't combo them, while 1 to 2 shotting you. Meaning you have to use a dark-souls-esque combat strategy which completely defeats the purpose of this game
    Most of your light and heavy runic attack animations don't have I frames (this is a HUGE overlook by the devs honestly), making a cooldown build an outright recipe for disaster.
    The rage system was a disappointment at best as it achieves nothing at higher difficulties other than build up some health while dying.

    3. Cinema > gameplay and quality of life features
    Looking at the game, it's obvious that this is an attempt to broaden the target audience of GOW, by sacrificing the core community once again. GOW as I remember was always combat-driven, with a plot built with the clash of morality and strong emotions. This feels like I'm playing another game with a Kratos DLC skin add-on.

    4. Meh skill/combo tree
    The combo tree is just horrible honestly. Most of the time, it was me going back and reading on how to use the next skill and thinking of how to use them in combat. But as you get in NG+, higher-level enemies start showing up, which don't get stunned by anything, making half of the tree completely useless. Rather the game becomes a grind to get the next best armor set.

    Some pretty cool stuff they've done:
    1. 8/10 story
    The story is well thought out with great music choices and scenic locations. The additional lore markers are a real treat for feeding in all the foreshadowing of the adventure to come. Mimir has become one of my favorite characters in this series with tales of side characters past and quirky remarks in general. The world-building is also pretty solid. The only issue I would have is with the side quests being in general boring and a lack of lore regarding mid game bosses which was seen in earlier GOW games.

    2. Amazing port
    Seeing how 90% of the console to PC ports can't handle a consistent 60fps unless you got a fire-breathing GPU, with the gods of Helheim cooling them; I would say the devs have done a decent job.

    TL;DR
    Really bad game mechanics and combat in general, but an equally good story experience. Treat this game like a playable novel and enjoy it as such.    … Expand

    This game came out with a lot of hype behind it and for once it was well deserved. Santa Monica brought back the God of War. The story and character writing was top notch and even the gaming environment were truly beautiful. You just have to play the game to experience it for yourself first hand.

    This is a must play and a game that will easily go down as a classic. It's great on so many levels, and deserved the game of the year award at the game awards, even though I liked Red Dead and Detroit more personally. It also has some of the best boss fights I've fought in a long time.

    Every aspect of this game is just fantastic. I played it on a PS4 Pro and I can only imagine playing it on a gaming computer with 60 fps but nonetheless, this piece of art will thrill you from the amazing action to the incredible world.

    Great story, great art, plenty of content, great gameplay.

    character control is not realistic enough, Assassin's creed is better.

    Santa Monica in my opinion never missed in a God Of War game, and this game proves it. The gameplay is so damn fun, amazing graphics and story, compelling characters and I cannot wait to Ragnarok coming November 9th!

    Il gioco è spettacolare dal punto di vista grafico, lo storytelling e la trama sono di altissimo livello e l’evoluzione dei personaggi è notevole ma coerente, inoltre ho apprezzato molto la scelta di realizzare l’intero gioco in piano sequenza e questo, almeno a me, ha garantito una maggiore immersione nella storia.

    [Note: This is the only/first God of War game I have played]

    Gameplay: Everything controlled very well. The addition of the Blades of Chaos halfway through really added to spice up the gameplay. I did however prefer the axe and wouldn’t choose the blades when I had a choice (opposed to needed the blades since others were immune to the the frost axe) I did learn to like using them later into the game. The use needing to switch from the axe to the blades in the final baulder fight was really fun and a great idea. The “boss fights” were amazing. As for using Atreus’s arrows, once I obtained the shock arrows I only used those and not the light arrows in combat though, using them worked very well. Once I found runic attacks I liked using I never really changed them out for different ones. And they were normally the fist ones I got. I didn’t do the side quests during the main story although I may go back later (I just finished it) since I had a great time playing the game. [Updated note: Ive been playing the side quests and they’re really fun] The puzzles were great. There was never a dull moment. Mimir’s storys in the boat were really nice to listen to. I started waiting right by the dock for mimir to finish his storys.

    Story: Kratos and Atreus’s relationship coming closer was beautiful. Freya acting like a mother to Atreus was great to see. The end was beautifully done and really fulfilling. I really enjoyed it, so much. I haven’t wrote much on it but that’s not because I don’t love it so much. There was so much emotion in the story that I just ate up.    … Expand

    I have not played the original GOW games. But I think that this is a great attempt to keep an old franchise alive and give it a modern game.

    The game itself is outstanding. I can see the care and the elaborate details that make the game lovable and beautiful. It is not my favorite but I really enjoyed and it captivated me in it's world.

What really makes this an annoying game are the horrible dialogs and the permanent stupidity of both Kratos and his son.     God of War is probably one of the best games I've played. One of the few that not only entertains children's minds, but even develops knowledge about Scandinavian and ancient Greek mythology. The most brutal and most cruel god, who killed all the Greek gods, including the main god of all Olympus, Zeus, has a child under the name Atreus. And the whole story that we will do, travelingGod of War is probably one of the best games I've played.     I don't like a mechanic with hammer, it’s very difficult and uncomfortable. And plot isn’t interesting for me too. I have something to compare. I’m played a lot of Assasins, Horizon, Monsterhunterworld, days gone and others. But i like this game for graphic arts and for fighting generally. I take a different picture, thats why i think, that game not bad, but not 100

    Almost perfect i every way. I liked the most the music, the combat and the voice of the Serpant,it sounds so good when you play on your headphones. The only thing i felt lacking is more boss battles, which i hope will see in Ragnarok.

    One of the strongest PlayStation titles in recent years, the visuals are excellent, the art direction is well executed, voice acting is solid, gameplay incredibly satisfying and the story is interesting from start to finish. If you have a PS or a PC you owe it to yourself to try this game out.

This oaf I was in control of was a disgrace to the God of War franchise. The entire "Epic!" element you get when you're playing GoW was nowhere to be found.

    The saving grace, if you can call it that, are the gorgeous visuals. which is to be expected with games coming out on next-gen consoles. I forced myself to play it for a couple more hours, hoping that it would get better but why torture myself into playing a video game, right?     I really don’t get the hype?! I just got it on ps plus for free and the game is beyond annoying! I rather watch god of war “the movie” . Kratos can’t jump neither can he climb? Are you kidding me?! The combat system is very confusing and lame . Also your “son” is very annoying he won’t be quiet.The old god of war games are definitely better.

    As a 14 year old who bought a ps3 back in the day just to play god of war 3 I could not be less proud in calling this game a masterpiece and the finest ps exclusive I have ever played. Barlog and team took me back to when I was 14 years old and made me have the experience of a kid again.

I never played gow until now, and now I see what all the rave was about. Only hoped the story was a bit longer and spanned into more realms, and the sickest fights, which were the Valkyrie fights, were all just endgame.
