This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

A jogabilidade é absolutamente envolvente.

A trilha sonora é verdadeiramente magnífica.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

There is no doubt that it deserved the GOTY. The story is the most incredible when at the beggining Kratos doesn't deal with his son but along the plot there is an important turn which Kratos is able to change their feelings (it's very emotional). Another point to remark is the music. Without the band it wouldn't be God of War.

God of War (2018) is a really good game but it’s hard to not be cynical, disappointed, frustrated and annoyed. This is what happens when you put presentation and story above gameplay and player experience. First of all I have to say that anyone that ever said anything like ‘God of War is grown up now’ or ‘God of War is now mature’ has a bad memory, didn’t play the older games

God of War (2018) is a really good game but it’s hard to not be cynical, disappointed, frustrated and annoyed. This is what happens when you put presentation and story above gameplay and player experience.

First of all I have to say that anyone that ever said anything like ‘God of War is grown up now’ or ‘God of War is now mature’ has a bad memory, didn’t play the older games or is just an idiot. Second, why is this a God of War game with Kratos? I get that using that name and character brings some history, depth and built in fan base but this could have been its own new IP with new characters. We all know how much the AAA gaming industry likes to take risks so of course they are rebooting something instead. Third, why the hell is this being considered as one of the greatest games of all time and getting such high praise? God of War is the perfect game to pair with popcorn and soda. It is a blockbuster game – big budget, fun, highly polished but kind of shallow and not really special, amazing or interesting. If God of War is peak gaming then are good super hero movies peak film?

Let’s get the obvious out the way this game has really high production values. It looks and sounds excellent and made my PS4 Pro roar like a jet. The voice acting, sound effects and music is great. Everything is highly polished but it’s not that interesting. I’m not a big fan of the games art direction, a lot of the environments feel very similar and level design is kind of bland. It mostly loses the original God of War trilogy’s personality, variety, epicness, scale, over the top action and gore.

The story is fine but left me a bit cold. It starts off okay, although too slowly, and it ends well. However the majority of the game is just meh. I didn’t connect with things at all and wasn’t interested in the characters. Don’t get me wrong there were some good moments, humour and I liked seeing their take on the Norse mythology, unfortunately though it’s mostly forgettable and this why the ending probably didn’t hit as it was intended to for me. Also Atreus is annoying.

The game play has some problems and choices I just don’t get and didn’t enjoy. The commitment to the camera and the close over the shoulder view just doesn’t work for the gameplay. Not being able to see what you need too isn’t fun and it gets even worse in close spaces or near walls. Why can’t Kratos jump? It removes verticality from level design and combat and means platforming is just put in the bin. Kratos climbs so slowly too. Puzzles are underwhelming. The difficulty curve is poor with spongy enemies at first and then things just get too easy. There is all this different stuff to find and so much for Kratos to equip. Why is this crap even here, what does it add other than monotony and padding? I do like the way combat feels. The axe is fun and it hits hard. Everything feels like it has great weight and momentum to it. It doesn’t reward you for playing well though and starts to feel like you’re just going through the motions before the games end.

I think the original God of War trilogy is better than this and enjoyed those older games a lot more. It’s sad to see God of War lose its personality and uniqueness and become another big, homogeneous, cinematic, story driven, single player experience like the others by Sony. For me God of War (2018) is kind of forgettable and doesn’t have any replay value. Of course it is a delight for your eyes and ears. Of course it is impressive. Of course it is enjoyable, worth playing and I recommend it. But it is definitely not top shelf gaming or deserving of a place next to the all time greats.

God of War, 2018’s installment in the acclaimed franchise, delivers a thrilling and immersive experience that combines exceptional combat mechanics, a captivating storyline, and breathtaking visuals. As a player, you'll embark on an epic journey with Kratos and his son Atreus, unraveling a tale that is both emotionally charged and action-packed.

Let's start with the gameplay mechanics
God of War, 2018’s installment in the acclaimed franchise, delivers a thrilling and immersive experience that combines exceptional combat mechanics, a captivating storyline, and breathtaking visuals. As a player, you'll embark on an epic journey with Kratos and his son Atreus, unraveling a tale that is both emotionally charged and action-packed.

Let's start with the gameplay mechanics and combat system. It's no exaggeration to say that they are outstanding. The developers have crafted a seamless and satisfying combat system that strikes a perfect balance between depth and accessibility. Each encounter is a symphony of brutal and visceral combat, blending fluid melee attacks, powerful magic, and tactical maneuvers. The combat feels weighty, impactful, and rewards skillful execution. It's clear that the combat system is one of the game's strongest aspects, providing a thrilling experience from start to finish.

Moving on to the storyline and narrative, God of War does not disappoint. The game takes a bold and refreshing approach by delving into the complexities of Kratos' character, presenting a more mature and introspective portrayal. The relationship between Kratos and Atreus serves as the emotional core of the story, beautifully portrayed through their interactions and character development. The narrative is intricately woven, filled with unexpected twists, and explores themes of parenthood, grief, and redemption. It's a testament to the game's writing and voice acting that you'll find yourself genuinely invested in the characters and their journey.

Visually, God of War is a feast for the eyes. The game showcases stunning graphics and a meticulously crafted world inspired by Norse mythology. From the grandeur of the mythical realms to the smallest details in character designs, the visual design elevates the overall experience. The attention to detail is remarkable, creating a sense of immersion that draws you further into the game's rich and atmospheric world.

Character development and interactions in God of War are top-notch. Kratos' evolution from a vengeful god to a more compassionate father figure is a remarkable journey to witness. The growth of Atreus as he grapples with his own identity and the dynamics between the two protagonists are skillfully portrayed. Supporting characters also play significant roles, contributing to the depth and complexity of the narrative.

Sound design and music in God of War are nothing short of exceptional. The ambient sounds and battle effects enhance the immersive experience, while the musical score complements the epic moments and emotional beats. The game's sound design succeeds in immersing you in its world and heightening the impact of key moments.

While the puzzles and exploration elements in God of War are solid, they may not stand out as much compared to other aspects of the game. They offer enjoyable challenges and encourage exploration of the beautifully crafted world. However, they don't always reach the same level of innovation and complexity as the combat and narrative.

In terms of overall enjoyment and replay value, God of War is a triumph. The combination of engaging gameplay, a compelling storyline, and exceptional character development makes it a truly unforgettable experience. The game invites you to delve into its rich lore, uncover hidden secrets, and engage in rewarding combat encounters. Whether you're a longtime fan of the series or new to it, God of War offers a satisfying and immersive adventure that will keep you coming back for more.

In conclusion, God of War deserves every bit of praise it has received. With its stellar combat mechanics, compelling storyline, impressive visuals, and memorable characters, it stands as a shining example of what a modern action-adventure game can achieve. It's an absolute must-play for any gamer looking for an immersive and emotionally resonant experience.

Kratos is a mature and developed character with his own motives, and Atreus is a fantastic sidekick with some depth that really enhances the story of the game.

I love how they changed the gameplay from the previous games, it feels more realistic and grounded, while keeping the amount of action a God of War games needs.

The environment looks fantastic, so many areas to explore and secrets to find, unlocking new equipment or upgrading weapons feels very rewarding.
The game also has backtracking, so you can always go back and find new things, and even a mini open world map where you can travel to all the realms you've unlocked and explore every last corner.

There's a good amount of side content such as side quests and challenges aswell, you can put many hours in this game and you'll still want more, it's honestly a very enjoyable game.

The puzzles are okay, nothing groundbreaking but serviceable, although I wish there was more variety, many of them are the same puzzle with some minor differences.

There is so much potential for the sequel to be even better since this game sometimes feels limited, such as the re-skinned boss fights, or the lack of realms you can visit.
There are few sections near the end where the game drags quite a bit, and it feels like unnecessary filler but nothing to worry about, it doesn't ruin the overall experience at all.

For me this is one of the most important First Party Sony games of the PlayStation 4 generation, a videogame that everyone needs to play at least once, absolutely remarkable.

    Final Rating: "Excellent" ~ 9.5/10.

Well, the first time I played, I ended up quitting. Why? Because I found it boring. The hype and self-pretentiousness kinda ruined the experience for me. This time was different. My friend let me his Playstation 4. I played every main GoW and loved it, especially the third one. After that, naturally, I was curious about how Kratos would end up there and why. I also had sympathy for Kratos, which I didn't have before. I'm trying to say that GoW 2018 does not sustain itself alone. If you never heard about Kratos and has a good repertory of movies/book with similar Dad and Son Plot, It will not be enough to grab your attention.

Furthermore, I believe the game lost its soul. Yeah, they are trying to tell a new story - and I appreciate that. The problem is a major mischaracterization in-game. The point of view is a nice example of that. Sacrifice the gameplay in favor of the narrative was not a good idea when the script is not that good, like Last of Us, and the melee gameplay was going to get worse. And I say more, the RPG system here is weak as hell. What can I say more? well... mediocre dialog and a static story "progression" made me get angry sometimes.

But... I still recommend this game. The story is still interesting if you played the previous games. The gameplay is not dynamic, but fun sometimes. The dialog is not great but has its moments, especially when Kratos reflects on his past. The graphics were amazing, as was its optimization. 4K 40 fps looked amazing. There is much to talk about - good and bad things, but I'm sleepy. Happily, most of its problems were corrected in Ragnarok, so it's worth your time.

This game offers both a substantial narrative and a surplus of thrilling gameplay. From the personal journey and compelling characters, to the vast realm exploration and brutal combat, this fresh departure from the original Greek saga has solidified itself as something of a modern masterpiece.

Many years after leaving his homeland behind, the legendary Spartan, Kratos, has started a new life among the Nine Realms. For a time, Kratos learned to temper his rage and live in peace with his wife, Faye, and his son, Atreus. However, after a sudden loss befalls his family, father and son are prompted to embark on a great journey to fulfill a final wish. Along the way, the two endure many obstacles as they learn to build trust, each teaching the other something valuable as they move closer to their goal. Kratos and Atreus make several allies, but also powerful enemies. Together, they strive to overcome the monumental conflicts that stand in their way and learn a great deal about the forces that oversee the realms as they attempt to find their own place in this world.

While this is arguably a larger game than the three Greek trilogy games combined, 2018’s soft reboot is a deeply personal story, with elements that match with the stakes of 2005’s original God of War. Where God of War Ragnarök is the Norse saga’s equivalent of the more epic and expansive God of War II and God of War III, 2018’s entry is a slower burn. Previous titles focused almost exclusively on Kratos, though, as part of this installment, Kratos is constantly accompanied by Atreus. Several other supporting characters also assist the father and son at multiple points in the story, each going through their own journey alongside them. There are only a couple of major antagonists to keep track of, with the journey itself serving as the chief opposition to Kratos and Atreus. A cast of this size makes each character memorable, especially given the scope of this game. One of the things I appreciated most was the deliberate inclusion of little character moments, be it through a string of seamless transitions between cutscenes and gameplay, or frequent dialogue between characters as players move along through each of the levels. The amount of emphasis on story and speech is substantial, but in a way that always feels natural and never feels excessive.

What makes a story like this so compelling is a combination of these strong characters and a unique take on mythological figures and lore. This entry certainly captures the spirit and excitement of an adventure through realms flowing with magic and fantastical creatures. Despite the subject matter concerning loss, corruption, cruelty, and murder, the game constantly delivers moments of awe, often reflected through the young Atreus.

Being a God of War game, this title does not disappoint in its gameplay execution, and with the PlayStation 5 performance patch, it runs even better than before. Like the previous iterations, this installment is a hack and slash, action/adventure game set in a fantasy world. However, unlike the Greek saga titles, this iteration utilizes an over-the-shoulder perspective all throughout its gameplay, outside of sections involving climbing the environments. While God of War (2018) features a new perspective and less over-the-top tone, it also manages to preserve certain elements from its predecessors. For instance, juggling opponents can still be accomplished by launching them into the air with large attacks, then proceeding to continue attacking them as they slowly make their way back down. There is a balance between combat, exploration, traversal, and puzzle solving made even greater in this game. Weapons feel heavier, exploration is expanded with more open environments, traversal is improved with more guided paths and assistance from Atreus, and puzzles come in the form of riddles and uses of combat techniques. Unfortunately, the enemy variety is noticeably small—especially when it comes to discussing the minibosses. As a result, execution animations quickly become repetitive against these opponents, even though the animations are initially satisfyingly brutal. There is a handful of main bosses and several optional bosses, each of which are memorable experiences that offer great spectacle and succeed in bringing out the god in Kratos.

God of War is an exceptional feat that certainly deserves the attention, praise, and accolades it has garnered since its release. An uplifting tale of father and son, abundant with beautiful landscapes, compelling characters, engaging lore, and gripping combat, this game is a prime example of how to evolve a series and its protagonist in a captivating way.

Even with that complain the combat is really exhilarating and very fun. What makes you "kind of " don't feel the necessity of jumping is the change of camera, which is a nice chance since you can see all the detail SM putted in the environments and that was not possible in previous games of the franchise.

Also the story is really amazing with great performance of the actors. The pacing is also great, you can do side-quests if you want to or just blaze your way through the main story. It depends on what you want.

If you could jump and go wherever you wanted as you wanted this would be a 10/10 for me, because it would also increase the combat possibilities of the game. I really cant avoid the feeling that in every action game the main character MUST be able to jump.

From the breathtaking visuals to the pulse-pounding combat, every aspect of this game is a testament to the skill and dedication of the developers at Santa Monica Studio.

The story of Kratos and Atreus is a triumph of character development, as we witness the growth and evolution of two complex and flawed individuals as they navigate a world steeped in Norse mythology. The emotional depth and raw humanity of their journey are nothing short of breathtaking, and the bond they share is one of the most touching and compelling relationships ever depicted in a video game.

The gameplay is equally impressive, seamlessly blending action, exploration, and puzzle-solving in a way that feels natural and intuitive. The combat is brutal and visceral, but also strategic and rewarding, requiring careful planning and execution to overcome the game's challenging enemies and bosses.

The world of God of War is a marvel of design, featuring breathtaking vistas, hidden secrets, and rich lore that rewards exploration and curiosity. The sound design is equally impressive, with a haunting and evocative score that perfectly captures the game's themes of loss, grief, and redemption.

Overall, God of War (2018) is a tour de force of game design that sets a new standard for what a video game can be. It is a must-play for anyone who loves gaming and storytelling, and a testament to the power of this medium to move and inspire us.

Cory Barlog and his team achieved what many thought impossible – despite having changed almost everything Santa Monica managed to preserve that elusive spark that makes God of War game feel like a God of War game. They created one of the defining titles of the current generation and a technical marvel whose stunning beauty in motion words cannot describe. And there’s one more thing. Barlog’s touching reaction to his masterpiece’s scores shows that even in the world of huge budgets, micropayments, loot boxes and sales forecasts there still is a place for artists who pour their hearts into their work. We need someone to remind us of that once in a while. [06/2018, p.38]
