Although almost every single mechanic in the game feels eerily similar to the Monster Hunter series, God Eater 3 manages to stand on its own (monstrous) two feet thanks to some incredible combat and a surprisingly engaging story.

God Eater 3 is a shining example of a sequel improving in almost every way. For those looking for a more story driven alternative to Monster Hunter World, God Eater 3 is maybe your game.

God Eater 3 does enough to push the franchise forward with new mechanics, improved visuals, and slick animations but is held back a little by annoying camera angles and some poor environments.

God Eater 3 is an enjoyable action RPG that offers both a solid solo and co-op experience, but it doesn't really stand out from the rest of the pack.

It cannot topple Monster Hunter World from the top of the food chain, but if you like your monster hunting and gathering with a hefty dose of post-apocalyptic atmosphere, this definitely is for you.

A staggering amount of gameplay customisation options, and adrenaline-pumping combat make it easy to forgive and forget some of its few shortcomings.

The complexity of the game can definitely be a huge barrier to entry, and there’s a repetitiveness that comes with hunting games that might turn you off if that’s not something you enjoy. Still, God Eater 3 functions as a strong, complex JRPG and a good way to test out the series if you’ve been curious this whole time.

Made both for the fans and new-comers, God Eater 3 is fun and demanding. It offers many hours of play and many subtilities you must master, making it a nice little journey.

Frankly, God Eater 3 has left us with quite a bit more positive feelings than we expected it would have. These primarily derive from the interesting evolution that we find in the characters of its history as well as the ability to create the type of fighter we want.

God Eater 3 definitely has a tougher barrier of entry compared to last year’s Monster Hunter: World. Most of that is due to complexity; God Eater 3 has tons of combat mechanics, a weird, jargon-filled narrative, and just generally a lot going on at once. However, it also doesn’t have a lot of the same heavy preparation and survival vibe of Monster Hunter, so it’s really more about mastering the action than micro-managing your inventory and outsmarting behemoths.

It doesn't use the transition to modern consoles fully to its advantage, but with plenty of man-eating Aragami and action that is simply exhilarating to participate in, God Eater 3 is an Action RPG that's good as a snack, and even a three-course meal once future content arrives.

While there are a lot of standard features for its genre, God Eater 3 is far from standard. Where once this was one of the genre's pretenders, sitting quietly on handheld consoles and developing a small, but dedicated audience, it now looks like Bandai Namco has a series that belongs with Toukiden and Monster Hunter at the very front of the stage.

God Eater 3, the latest entry in the fast-paced hunting action series, offers a fresh location as well as a new set of characters. While introducing new elements, the snappy core gameplay remains intact, and the difficulty is well balanced. However, the story develops in a rather clichéd way, and some characters would have benefited from a little more depth.

This new entry in the series improves in many ways from its predecessors, especially in terms of graphics and gameplay but also by offering an interesting plot and characters besides multiplayer content. However, it lacks additional content beyond the main story it's on the short side.

God Eater 3 isn’t quite polished like Monster Hunter World, but it surely is the best alternative to Capcom’s videogame.

God Eater 3 is still a must for fans of the saga, who after many remastering will finally have something new on which to vent their hunger for divinity.

God Eater 3 is a good hunting game, although not a perfect one. The RPG structure focused on equipment and allies’ growth allows to stage great hunts against giant monsters in a post-apocalyptic world. It is also possible to share everything both on single and online playing. By the way the game maintains its historical flaws such as being repetitive and running with a very raw graphic. Old fans will immediately feel at ease, but newcomers will have to take some time to ponder and get used to the system and narration proposed by the game.

God Eater 3's frenetic anime-style combat and party customization make it a solid take on the Monster Hunter formula, even if its lackluster story and somewhat unvaried content keep it from being the best it could be.

Despite the lack of challenge and somewhat underwhelming story, I still found myself thoroughly enjoying the fast paced combat, and as I continued to experiment with different weapon types and skill loadouts losing countless hours, I knew the niche that God Eater has carved out for itself is most certainly well deserved.

I can’t recommend God Eater 3 to everyone, you’ve got to be able to put up with a certain amount of dry exposition, lackluster VA line reading, a whole host of menus, and some obtuse crafting mechanics. But if you think you can either get past that or aren’t opposed to diving in and reading up on mechanics via in-game tutorials or through other resources, there’s a decent-to-great game here. Obviously if you already enjoy God Eater as a series, then I’d say God Eater 3 is a no-brainer for you. But for everyone else, if you have the option to try before you buy, I’d do that first, just to see if God Eater is a series you’ll enjoy.

If Monster Hunter is slow dining, God Eater 3 is shamelessly snacking. You will get a high of hacking monsters, but afterwards you will feel empty.

If you have played a previous iteration of God Eater, you'll know exactly what to expect because the third part in the franchise does not innovate in any way. It is still a fun game though which especially excels in coop and the single player content has some seriously awesome missions which will enamor both series' veterans as well as newcomers.

God Eater 3 does a lot of things right, but misses marks as is goes along. Youu have a lot of options and skills and the battles you fight against huge monsters are epic. But there are only a few of these monsters.

Taken on its own terms, though, with God Eater 3 we have a pretty hunting game that moves like lightning and makes its stylish combat feel like something worth mastering. Players willing to adjust their expectations will find plenty to fill up on, but those seeking a novel new taste rather than a bit of comfort food may want to keep looking.

God Eater 3 won't stoke the hearts of Monster Hunter World addicts too much, but it could prove to be a nice break for fans of that game. For God Eater faithful, 3 will undoubtedly become their favorite due to an overall better presentation and sharper combat and multiplayer.

Not the best entry in the God Eater series, but still God Eater 3 could be a really fun action adventure game if played with friends in coop mode.

Although God Eater 3 boasts some stellar gameplay mechanics that allow you to play how you'd like, the surrounding aspects keep it back from being otherwise a great game.

I like the grind it presents when I want to get certain items to create certain weapons and I definitely enjoy the character creation per usual. Story is solid. And although people have mixed feelings because of its comparisons to MH, I enjoy the fact I can play with my friends and the fact that it has an anime feel to it for me. Full Review »

It's a good start for an initial release, but for it to truly be great it needs additional polish and an endgame. The story and side missionsIt's a good start for an initial release, but for it to truly be great it needs additional polish and an endgame. The story and side missions all together will net you around 40-ish hours. It's a much faster game then Monster Hunter World so hunts only last between 5 to 10 minutes. Where in monster hunter you need to run across massive zones the zones in GE3 are pretty closed off and it won't take a long time to engage an Aragami and it won't be able to run too far away from you. Mind you, the weapon customization system lets you customize your weapon, shield, and gun to fit your personal playstyle. Whether you prefer a more up close combat style or a long range style, you can expend Abandoned God Arcs, the game's Gem system to add abilities to your arsenal to power them up. And the bullet editor is back which let's those who prefer playing support or dealing damage from afar to completely design their own bullets albeit it's not as broken from the looks of it to its GE2RB counterpart. There's also the Engage system, Acceleration Triggers, and Control Modules that all act as personal playstyle modifiers. There's a lot LOT of tools, but no big baddies at the end to use these on. Weapons stop at Rank 7 but you're not fighting anything like tempered Aragami or anything. Patch 1.20 is supposed to add fixes and polish to the game that it desperately needs for some things. It's good that the developers are listening to feedback and adjusting the game accordingly which gives me hope for the future of the game. Right now it's 'good' but it's living in GE2RB's shadow. In about 1 to 2 years time from release, it needs to add another arc or two to add another 60 to 80 story missions, about 30-40 more aragami even just reskins, and needs to add a lot more Hard Mode missions. 1.20 scheduled in early spring for JP is said to include "Certification Missions" which I'm hoping equates to a Hard Mode, and 1.30 will be adding the first story-based DLC. The game needs more variants and new monsters it needs to go up to at least rank 15 during its lifespan to match GE2RB.
