God Eater 3 is a good hunting game that could serve as an ideal starting point for those that haven't played these type of games. Having said that, it feels simple and with a lot of wasted potential. It works perfectly but veteran players will not find a lot to do on it aside from enjoying a kinda cliche and post-apocalyptic story with anime design.

There are better and deeper hunting games, but we’ve had a great time with God Eater 3, and it’s a very good choice if you’re planning to play it with friends.

At the moment, God Eater 3 is the best option for the fans of the genre, and while some control and graphical issues are here and there, the gameplay is solid and the multiplayer section is very entertaining.

While God Eater 3 offers a worthy alternative to Monster Hunter thanks to the epic hunting, and a more forgiving gameplay, players will have to do with a dated technical side of things inherited from the times when the IP was exclusive to handheld machines.

Not having played any of the previous God Eater games, I can’t speak to how the franchise has progressed. As a stand alone product, God Eater 3 has generally engaging combat, some depth and complexity in terms of weapon and skill development and a story and character that are not actively bad, just generic and not very creative. Fans of Monster Hunter and games in the genre will enjoy the shorter encounters and faster, more fluid combat.

God Eater 3 doesn’t particularly do anything new and amazing for the hack-and-slash RPG genre – but what it does, it does really well. Despite the drags of the narrative, and extreme gripes with button bindings (and sometimes forgetting which buttons to press), God Eater 3 manages to keep you wanting more through combat, weapon upgrades and different battle tactics.

God Eater 3’s gameplay has some hits and misses, but the overall experience proves to be a solid one. Anyone who likes Monster Hunter should certainly give this one a whirl.

God Eater 3 doesn’t break any molds and that’s okay. It fulfills its role as a solid action JRPG and a worthy successor to Bandai Namco‘s God Eater franchise by combining the rustic tropes of the genre with a heart-warming, if familiar, story of a developing family struggling to survive. Even through repetitive beats, the missions that run into each other, and the humdrum of the reused environmental assets, the story shines bright like a beacon in the Ashlands.

In the end, I don’t think God Eater 3 will leave much of a mark in the genre now that Monster Hunter World seems to completely dominate it, but my time with it was fun nonetheless. Thanks to its engaging and interconnected systems, it’s ever-present anime aesthetic, and its lovable although underdeveloped characters, the game ends up overcoming many of its flaws. In all honesty, I never thought eating gods would be such nice comfort food.

God Eater 3 is a good if unremarkable title in the monster hunting subgenre. This is a game that doesn’t excel in any one area, but none of its shortcomings are damning to the point of ruining an enjoyable experience. There are attempts at giving more depth to combat with the characters engaging each other and having burst attacks, but using these actions strategically doesn’t greatly alter the battle outcome from just button mashing. The repetitive mission structure paired with a story and characters that feel as if they could have been lifted from any number of games prevent this title from being exceptional, but for fans of the genre, there’s a good game hiding beyond these shortcomings.

We love some aragami and weapon design, but gameplay gets too repetitive and character progression is too complicated.

While God Eater 3 has its share of problems, it's still an incredibly fun action RPG that I found myself playing for hours on end. While it's not quite up to the quality of Monster Hunter World, it's worth playing for fans of anime aesthetics and JRPG tropes.

God Eater 3's another frenetic action RPG where the enjoyable rhythm and flow of combat is enough to outweigh most of the negatives. Whether you're up for a lengthy session or you're just stopping by to farm some materials, the game's easy to sink your teeth into, and there's plenty to chew on should you find yourself hooked thanks to the in-depth character progression. While more could and probably should have been done to bring God Eater's visuals and cumbersome menus up to speed, there's still plenty of skilful hack and slashing on offer here.

God Eater 3 boasts fantastic monster hunting combat and the best visuals we've seen from the series, but hangs onto too many of the previous game's hang-ups.

God Eater 3's core gameplay is spot-on for exciting combat yet its missions are too one-note for it to remain engaging for more than a few hours. As a result, its campaign can feel like a chore and even playing online multiplayer ends up being all too samey.

Fans will certainly appreciate God Eater 3 as a solid continuation of the franchise. Newcomers, however, will probably have to force their way through a significant part of the experience to feel the same joy. There is a solid monster-slaying action-RPG buried under here; it's just a matter of how deep you're willing to dig to uncover its treasures.

The story isn't engaging, the overall gameplay loop is weirdly off-balance, and the combat won't surprise you. But if you want to sink into that loot cycle, be it for better scythes or snappier clothes, you'll make yourself at home in no time. God Eater 3 is a delightful smashup of monsters, swords and skintight leather. Just don't be surprised when you discover that's all there is.

The greatest enemy in God Eater 3 may not be the Aragami, but a stagnated system and potential fatigue instead.

God Eater 3 has a nice and pleasant combat system, which will satisfy the fans of the series. On the other hand, if you were excepting something new and fresh you'll be more than disappointed by the stagnation of the series.

God Eater 3 is certainly not a bad time, and there’s easily thirty hours of enjoyment to be had going through its seventy story missions along with all of its optional missions, including several challenges unlocked once the credits roll. However, coming into the context of Monster Hunter: World doing so much to advance its series, God Eater 3’s approach of simply offering more of the same without doing anything to expand on what made it such a strong challenger is a disappointment. It still has its positives, but they’ve all been seen before.

I understand that this is a popular franchise overseas but it translates really poorly to something I’d want to play. There is simply is not enough love to make this game worthwhile. I’d be buying this when it is very very cheap.

God Eater 3 is a solid entry in the franchise that doesn't necessarily reinvent itself, but it doesn't have to. All the core things that make God Eater so enjoyable, from the lightning-fast combat to the anime stylings, have been given a new lick of paint and propped up enticingly next to additions like the well-tuned Assault Missions and creative enemies to make one delicious package. Some aspects of the game--like its difficulty curve and multitude of superfluous customization systems--miss the mark, but it's an enjoyable romp with plenty of raucous battles if you're hungry for an action RPG.

If God Eater 3 sounds like the average action role playing game, it's because it is pretty cut and dry. In the hours played, it was hard to find something that truly sets the game apart from similar titles.

In a perfect world, God Eater 3 would have been a leap in quality similar to Monster Hunter World and had been the big coming out party for the series. Sadly, that isn’t the case here at all. Instead, fans got more of the same with little innovation and the extra difficulty feeling more artificial than interesting.

A Monster Hunter clone that does some things differently but doesn’t manage to improve on element of it is far more entertaining inspiration.

I like the grind it presents when I want to get certain items to create certain weapons and I definitely enjoy the character creation per usual. Story is solid. And although people have mixed feelings because of its comparisons to MH, I enjoy the fact I can play with my friends and the fact that it has an anime feel to it for me. Full Review »

It's a good start for an initial release, but for it to truly be great it needs additional polish and an endgame. The story and side missionsIt's a good start for an initial release, but for it to truly be great it needs additional polish and an endgame. The story and side missions all together will net you around 40-ish hours. It's a much faster game then Monster Hunter World so hunts only last between 5 to 10 minutes. Where in monster hunter you need to run across massive zones the zones in GE3 are pretty closed off and it won't take a long time to engage an Aragami and it won't be able to run too far away from you. Mind you, the weapon customization system lets you customize your weapon, shield, and gun to fit your personal playstyle. Whether you prefer a more up close combat style or a long range style, you can expend Abandoned God Arcs, the game's Gem system to add abilities to your arsenal to power them up. And the bullet editor is back which let's those who prefer playing support or dealing damage from afar to completely design their own bullets albeit it's not as broken from the looks of it to its GE2RB counterpart. There's also the Engage system, Acceleration Triggers, and Control Modules that all act as personal playstyle modifiers. There's a lot LOT of tools, but no big baddies at the end to use these on. Weapons stop at Rank 7 but you're not fighting anything like tempered Aragami or anything. Patch 1.20 is supposed to add fixes and polish to the game that it desperately needs for some things. It's good that the developers are listening to feedback and adjusting the game accordingly which gives me hope for the future of the game. Right now it's 'good' but it's living in GE2RB's shadow. In about 1 to 2 years time from release, it needs to add another arc or two to add another 60 to 80 story missions, about 30-40 more aragami even just reskins, and needs to add a lot more Hard Mode missions. 1.20 scheduled in early spring for JP is said to include "Certification Missions" which I'm hoping equates to a Hard Mode, and 1.30 will be adding the first story-based DLC. The game needs more variants and new monsters it needs to go up to at least rank 15 during its lifespan to match GE2RB.
