Really enjoying this game so far, at first I was sceptical, but then it got really addictive.

Please judge based on the genre, which is JRPG. Do not expect something else.

Much, much improved on the awful Final Fantasy 13, but it has many faults that stop it from becoming a classic.

First of all, the plot - a convoluted mess that somehow manages to get worse the longer you play it, which is a death knell for any sprawling RPG. Second, the characters - I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter how much you try and add layers to them, they are ultimately emo boyband

First of all, the plot - a convoluted mess that somehow manages to get worse the longer you play it, which is a death knell for any sprawling RPG. Second, the characters - I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter how much you try and add layers to them, they are ultimately emo boyband members running around a field more often than not. Compare them to the classic Final Fantasy games and these cut and paste characters simply don't hold up.

Another issue is the illusion of an open world without actually being that open. It devolves into a combination of doing loads of stuff repeatedly that is essentially the same thing, or doing barely anything for a whole hour.

The good? I like the combat. Sort of. I like it more than I hate it anyway - it is fluid, often fun, but hectic and times borderline incomprehensible; simply too much stuff on the screen, taking away the tactical element and sometimes coming across as a poor version of Dynasty Warriors.

The soundtrack is also OK. Not the best in the series - probably not even top five - but competent.

But what rescues the title almost wholesale from being a disaster is the sense of an epic journey. It is a majestic example of world building around a central character, so much so that it often disguises the poor plot and lack of a 'traditional' open world, simply because you want to know what part of this world you will be led to next. It is graphically fantastic and that helps immerse you in to what is on offer.

And now we come to what actually saves the game from being around a 4 or a 5 - the boss battles. They are, in a word, awe-inspiring, and are the one section of the game where I'm glad it doesn't have turn based strategy as a combat system.

All that said, FF15 is OK. Not great, certainly not in the same league as the classics of the 90s, but solidly OK. It was sort of overhyped for what it eventually is, but you'll get fun out of it nevertheless - if you ignore the laughable plot and ridiculously bland characters.

An amazing fresh start for a long series. Yes, it's completely different from other Final Fantasy's but so is the player base and so is the industry. Just like every other Final Fantasy, XV has its own identity and shouldn't be looked down upon simply because other FF games from over a decade ago were different.

Although it might seem like a very weird game from some trailers, once you play you see how everything fits well.
Epic gameplay, epic bosses, lots of things to do in an extremely well polished game.

Final Fantasy XV is easily the best FF game since IX.

    - Cast is so unique and defined. And you care about them.
    - Graphics are the one of the best on this gen.
    - The open world is a game changer on the serie and is soo good.
    - Combat is exquisite and varied.
    - Chocobos!
    - Music is godlike.
    - Quests are addictive.

If you love RPGs go for it!

One of the greatest things that Final Fantasy does is changes itself to fit with the times. The characters work beautifully and you get truly engulfed in the world. Some of the greatest scenes in the game are the simplest. Just driving before nightfall, watching the sun set over the mountains reminds you of all the little details that were so elegantly put into creating this game.

This game has a lot of heart to it. It captures the little things perfectly, with beautiful landscapes and overall scale and deaph. Most people complain about the story being a bit confusing. I followed it perfectly after watching Kingsglaive and think people could benefit from giving the companion movie a watch. But the gameplay is really fun, and it is the ultimate road trip with the boys.

I don't think this game is amazing, but it's very good. I'm enjoying it more than Final Fantasy 13. The combat system is very different compared to the previous FF games. Once again I am filled with a since of wonder and curiosity. Games that can do that for me in this day and age are few and far between.

Beautiful visuals, really strong characters, a great story (so far), and a combat system that is much improved over the version we saw earlier in demos. Kudos, Square Enix.

A Final Fantasy with a weak story, weak characters and a combat system suitable for a child? Not my cup of tea, thanks. Square Enix is following the industry worse attitude: give eye candies and, thanks to a titanic marketing operation, hiding many low points of this product. This is simply not a Final Fantasy worth of this name: enjoy your GTA style car, true JRPGs is not here.

Combat is actually pretty good, its fun and fast paced, but at the same time it can be a little bit difficult to tell whats going on due to the camera not really being able to keep up. However if you opt to choose wait mode, which is a slower approach to combat were you can plan out your attacks (which is something the long time fans may prefer if they would rather turn-based combat) the problems with the camera will probably cease.

The characters who everyone was probably a bit worried about are actually pretty likeable and I find myself really getting attached to them, there is a real sense of camaraderie with Gladiolus, Ignis and Prompto as you endeavour on this epic road trip.

A feature I thought might be a bit pointless was that Prompto actually takes photos of each day in game, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, it's actually a pretty nice touch-he takes some pretty cool photos which range from action shots of you fighting and group photos- all of which are memories you'll be looking back upon fondly.

The soundtrack is also fantastic, it's really the icing on the cake on whats a really good game.

There are some parts were pacing problems here and there, driving (whilst by no means is bad) may be a bit disappointing because it tends to be automatic a fair bit (you will get your chance to drive though) and along with the occasional bug, Final Fantasy is not a perfect game-but there really isn't such a thing and all that matters in the end is if you enjoyed the game or not and to say I enjoy Final Fantasy 15 is an understatement.

What makes the game so engaging is the fun factor, I cant explain it but running around in the world and talking a look at all the things going on can easily make for hours of fun. You can spend four hours in the first segment of the game without even advancing the plot.

    - Camera could use some work in some battles and tight areas
    - Bugs, with any game this big there are bound to be bugs, but all mine have resolved quickly

This game is so big and grand in scale, with a lovely dude and his bros, an incredible combat system, very badass and detailed animations, a huge and beautiful world to explore with an insane amount of content to eat up. It's easily a 9/10 and contender for my GOTY. After reading all the negative reviews I have to point out that there is no way in hell this is a poorly made game. So much time, care, and effort went into the development and it shows within all it's charm and character. I've never played a JRPG that has received this much treatment and attention to detail, and I have over 200 physical RPGs from several systems sitting here on my shelves. Play the game and decide for yourself, but I'm telling you, this is straight up a well made game, like it or not.

Nevertheless, I'm not going to hate for the sake of hate. (notice I didn't give the game a zero.) Here are some pros and cons:

    Pros:
    --Cut-scene graphics are very impressive.
--Clearly a lot of time was put into the game.
--Combat can be exhilarating at times.
    --Enemy/Boss design is fantastic.
--Characters/Story/World may appeal to certain people.
--I hear things later in the game get better, but personally I don't want to wait for that.

    Cons:
--Story is preposterous, even for this genre.
--Main cast's looks and personalities are uninspired (this one is the most disappointing because that used to be the series' strong suit.)
    --Main cast never. shuts. up.
--Combat can be very repetitive (you can literally just hold circle for much of it.)
--Traveling, at least at first, is excruciatingly dull (in your car, you're unable to even veer off the road!)
--Side quests are often boring (think typical "fetch" quests.)
--It doesn't feel like Final Fantasy, at least not to me.

Again, there may be people who will enjoy it. Judging by the other reviews, there are already quite a few.

This is the Final Fantasy game that was created to attract new fans to the series, not satisfied their old long-standing fans.

Frankly, if you're an old-school fan who is still trying to stay loyal to the title after the fiasco that was FFXIII, this your other chance to walk away. Square clearly gives no **** to the title anymore and it shows on how poorly designed this new game is.

Short campaign, bland characters and story, lack customization, you name it.

Multiple big story moments happen off screen, and supporting cast are barely utitized, have minimal impact, and disappear from the story. The supporting characters with the most screen time - Luna and Prompto/Ignis/Gladio - primarily exist for Noctis' development, with little story of their own. It really seems like this was an earnest attempt from a new director to make people excited about Final Fantasy again, and for me it really worked. It's nice to have a game that makes me grin from ear to ear, and setting this next to this year's Skyrim re-release shows off just how far open world RPGs have come. Expand

There is also manual drive. You choose manual, and your destination. You press and hold L2. The car drives itself there. You can't accelerate the car drive. You can't skip the drive. You can't bypass it in any way. BUT you can choose when to stop the car, by letting go of L2. And look at the pretty scenery.

On a less joke-y judgement(which is still true though, I did not lie to you), the game feels EXTREMELY poor. Probably the biggest mountain of money I've seen thrown at a **** designer (Tetsuya Nomura is easily one of the worst cancers in the entire videogame industry and I cannot believe the number of braindead fanboys he has) so he could stroke his ego hard enough for him.

    A quick pros and cons:
+it looks nice, alright, not a visual slap to the face like XIII in its time but it looks nice for sure
+the combat is very limited and has a lot of problems but it is energetic and feels very good in aerial battles and against huge bosses
+the map is large, I guess

-from what I could see 6-7h into the game, apart from some spellcrafting which was a bit neat, there is ONE special attack(a very long distance lunge) in the entire game

characters: it's a boy band with the Big Guy, the Smart Guy(he has glasses so he's smart), the Annoying Guy, and the King Without A Throat, due to spending too much time whining with it. So Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo and no Leonardo.

They're bad? I mean, I think the setup speaks for itself: a prince gets his country robbed, his dad is dead, so he takes his boy band childhood friends on a road trip to kill bad guys and succeed at Trials. They're not so "bad" as they are so Nomura it hurts. This man is a living cancer due to always cramming whatever "looks cool" together in the most ridiculous of mishmashes, and I gotta say, the boy band childhood friends is quite beating everything he's done before, even Tidus or Snow.

    Battle AIs:
A lot of the combat is done against massive mobs. When you die, you don't "die" quite, you can get tapped on the shoulder by a friendly AI to get back with a portion of HP.
They don't do the tap. They take an insanely long amount of time to do it and it can mean death a lot of times.

    Driving:
I think my intro was quite clear, but in case it wasn't abundant: this is an open world where you can't drive, only watch. If you drive, you'll quickly regret it as it's pointless and will cost money to repair the car. Also, driving warrants you no battles, so you'll literally waste untold hours just waiting for the damn car to reach its goal. When you get off and go on foot, it's also long and boring, but there's mobs and thus fights. The walking around in a Just Cause 2 size map is as atrocious as you can imagine, although at least you can farm EXP.

    Battle Gameplay:
As I said fights look really good and feel very dynamic, so that's great. But between the battle AIs that don't rush to save you and instead stumble around, the "protagonist is dead = game is over" crap that was into XIII, was hated, was fixed in XIII-2, and now is brought back by whatever inflated ego at Squeenix who thought it was a great idea like some Lucas forcing Jar Jar Binks into people again and again, the ONE special lunge attack and everything else is just spamming your weapons and crafting some AoE spells WHICH DAMAGE YOUR OWN PARTY by the way, and the general feeling that when you're against many foes you're often cornered into lunging in and out to not get mobbed, and having no reliable AoE attack, I'd say this feels good, but it is extremely underdevelopped.

    -Storytelling
I could make an entire thesis on why Nomura and his team of ***wits are absolutely cancerous to videogames, and especially to proper storytelling. As I said the Cancerman is unable to not cram something in as long as it looks cool. Even if it's utterly stupid, he'll cram it. The Boy Band Childhood Friends King Ninja Turtles Who Must Get The Holy Weapons To Save The World probably exemplifies it.
But instead of a thesis, I'll say this: out of the 4-5 hours I've seen of this, there wasn't a single time, not once, where the story wasn't told through flashbacks. Not once. The only story part that wasn't a flashback was when Titan attacked the party. The rest is either dropped(IE doesn't become a story), ignored or is just quest-giving.

I have played every FF from IV to XII save for X-2 and XI. And XIII and XIII-2.

This is the laziest storytelling of them all.

Some of these reviews are pathetic. "I've cleared the game in just less than 40 hours." Uh, no, you haven't. The game has been out for sixteen hours. And if you're five, six, seven, even eight hours ahead in Europe, that is maximum 24 hours. So no, you haven't cleared the game and most of the side quests. Get over yourselves. Nothing but haters putting 0s to put 0s. I gave it a 10 to combat that, but honestly I would give it a 9.

The combat in this game is spectacular. It makes tedious side quests fun. And believe me, there are some tedious quests. Think World of Warcraft 2004 when every quest was either fetch X number of items, or kill X number of enemies. My sole criticism.

How can you hate on Noctis and his group of friends? They're the most shelled-out, realistic group of dudes we've seen in a long time. You can relate to them, they make you laugh, they make you cry.

You have to refill the gas tank, you don't replenish health after battles, you need to actually use those items you save up for the entire game. It's awesome. And even after it all, you can come back to the open world to get what you missed and trust me, you'll not get stuff, because you need to complete the game to get some stuff, you need to be way higher level to get stuff, kill stuff.

The mini-games are hilarious and awesome. I love how SQE brought back betting on races and what not. Riding chocobos around. Man.

And the nostalgia. The car. The old FF tunes.

I've read that you get sucked into a linear portion when you need to advance the story past the open world. What's the problem with that? Story is what makes an RPG, and this one so far is a doozy. I am excited to see what we get when I get there

Buy this game. Play the heck out of it, you'll be sad when it's done, I'm sure.

FFXV is easily the game of the year in my opinion. I'll admit that I was skeptical of watching one of the most beloved franchises of my childhood move towards a "hack and slash" RPG. Lots of terrible games, such as Dragon Age 2 for instance, have put such a sour taste in my mouth for this genre that I found myself bracing for the worst. I'm really glad that has not at all been the case soFFXV is easily the game of the year in my opinion. I'm really glad that has not at all been the case so far with FFXV.

At this point i've sunk about 10 hours of gameplay into the game so far (I haven't been able to put it down since it came out last night) and I've loved every minute of it. Square really nailed this game. The combat is surprisingly fluid and fulfilling, I love the secondary jobs each character has and have very much enjoyed the massive open world with side quests, treasure hunting, dungeons and crafting material spawns. It seems that Square Enix took some of the best parts of previous final fantasy games I loved and expertly crafted them all into one masterpiece.

The hunt system carried over from FFXII, which was easily the best part of that game. The hunt system in FFXV is every bit as satisfying as it was in FFXII, if not more.

The sphere grid upgrade system has been massively improved from FFX. There are now multiple sub categories that allow you to upgrade your crew as you see fit, whether that would be focusing on battles, exploring, jobs or whatever way you want to play.

The magic system is ported in from FFVIII, which I'll admit I used to hate back when VIII came out, but they've refined the draw system to nodes that grant you 60-80 of a specific element and then you can craft whatever spells you want from your menu.

Outside of that, the chemistry between Noct and his friends is amazing, the banter they have throughout the game has been very pleasing and fun to experience, and I very much enjoyed Promto's random terrible "beat boxing" of the final fantasy victory music after some battles. The music is outstanding in FFXV, and being able to listen to all of the old FF songs while driving in your car just makes the music that much better.

Many of the bug-bears other people have had with the story or with the car don't really bother me. I've been able to follow the story just fine so far, and while the car does feel like it is on rails to a certain point, I want to point out you CAN still wreck it. I had just started playing and finally finished the missions to get my fancy car all fixed up and went to take it out for a little test drive in manual mode, and I made it to the first turn and ran it straight into a barricade causing it to have to be repaired once again. 10/10. Also, I'm glad the car doesn't go everywhere, otherwise there would be no need for Chocobos to even make an appearance in FFXV, and if the car did go everywhere on the map, people would just complain that there is no use for Chocobos.

Either way, this game is a solid 10/10 for me. I'm glad that after 10 years I can finally get excited about such a beloved franchise again.

I've played every single FF game since its conception (including the original 6 which was 3 at the time and the original 4 which was 2 at the time) multiple times each. I've cosplayed as FF characters including Cloud, Squall, Cid, Cain, and Vivi at Comic Cons across the US. I even started a league for the Triple Triad card game from FF8. So it hurts my very soul to be putting a 4/10 for this game.

Unfortunately, this game is really not a Final Fantasy game. The story is lackluster and there is no real character development as of yet (and I'm 15 hours into the main story, the half-way point). I loved all of the FF games for their stories, so to have a not-so-compelling story with little character development is a major issue. But that's not the only issue.

You only control the main character in combat, which is, again, a HUGE deviation from previous installments. Controlling only the main character makes you feel far less invested in the side characters and it really takes out a level of strategy that I liked so much in previous installments. It feels like a button masher, beat-em-up game now. Don't get me wrong, the combat IS fun and good, but it's really not a FF combat system with a depth of strategy that I've become accustomed to.

Furthermore, the game seems to have been focused on giving us the current trending gimmick of an open world. They focused so much on it that the other elements of the game mentioned above suffered because of it. Basically this game feels more like Skyrim, focusing on the open world aspects over story-driven content and strategic combat.

Don't get me wrong, Skyrim was an awesome game and one of my favorites, but if I wanted more Skyrim, I'd just play that, or the Witcher 3. When I pick up an FF game, I want exceptional story and strategic combat.

Now, the open world IS great and the combat IS fun, so that's why the game gets a 4/10 from me, but as an FF game it was greatly disappointing. Graphics are also decent, not the best they could be, but not bad at all either.

I hope this review helps some of the die hard fans of FF. If you aren't a die-hard fan, though, and you like open world and a fluid combat system then you'll most definitely like this game. In fact, if this game did not bare the FF name, and it was just some new game that Square Enix was trying out I would have given it an 8 or 9 out of10.

It's got some pretty graphics, there's plenty of cute girls AND guys (for the people who enjoy looking at models straight out of victoria's secret). The combat is decent enough, you got option. You got summons. The movement is okay, nothing wrong with it. Unfortunately that's really all I can say positive about it.

Now for the negatives. The car, which I was excited for, is nothing more than a glorified waypoint traveling device. You barely have any control in it, I find it impossible to use off roads, and if I'm being honest, the game would've been better if you just instantly teleported to your next destination. It lacks the punch and pizazz of a cool airship, and I don't think you get the flying car anywhere near when it would be useful. Too little, too late i'm afraid.

The story is even more out there and nonsensical, especially by Final Fantasy standards. There's a war and some magical curse and the moon is evil (Majora's Mask anyone?) and Noctis has to do something. I couldn't be bothered to pay attention.

The lands you travel over are so devoid of life. And when you finally do find some generic mob to beat up, they die almost instantly. It once again falls prey to the Final Fantasy formula of enemy mobs being weak enough to not warrant wasting status effects on, but at the same time they're not strong enough to warrant investment in any fight. You just mash the button and the game plays for you once you really understand how combat works.

After 10 years in development, this wasn't worth the weight. There's redeeming factors, like the music and the occasional pretty setpiece, but at the end of the day it didn't grab my attention.

While other prominent online critics, like TheSpoonyOne, dismiss classic or high quality games due to not being mainstream enough, I have followed the series since I first read about Final Fantasy VI in Nintendo Power. I have thoroughly experienced the entire series and have closely followed the work of various people who have worked on the game, which has led me to such gems as The Last Story. I have a far more thorough knowledge of the creative side of the series than Noah Antwiler in all of his degenerate glory ever will.

Final Fantasy XV is incredibly boring. Anyone who has watched Conan O'Brien's 'Clueless gamer' segment can attest to this fact, There are, however, several fanboys who flood review sites with perfect scores despite never playing the game. It is time for more astute critics to point out the very real fact that this game is simply not very fun to play. Much like PS4 as a whole.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions was better, Paper Mario Color Splash was better, I'm sure Persona 5 will be better, the list of BETTER RPGs goes on and on and on. Square has been bleeding talent for years and now, when it comes to their biggest project ever, they have officially completely dropped the ball.

Cons- Camera can get a bit wonky at times, but its not enough where it will be hard to focus.

Conclusion: Overall, My favorite Final Fantasy, SE really hit it out of the ball park with this one!

If you love brawler Action games, you will like or maybe even love the combat in FFXV. It is that good. This game is a 9.5 in it's current state( a few minor bugs and gripes), but giving a 10 to offset a hater or two.. Now if you are on the fence, here is a few things to keep in mind that answer some of the haters critiques.

    1. Story- It starts a little slow and takes a few hours until you can feel the flow of the game/ combat. Stick with it! The combat becomes addicting and the world starts to become alive after 3-5 hours. Do side quests, complete hunts, collect gear, do side dungeons make the experience your own! No need to rush.

    2. Graphics/ development cycle: Yes there are a few moments where the graphics look slightly off for AAA budget title. Again just stick with it because I swear they get better and the world becomes more dynamic. As I progressed I had more and more wow that looks AMAZING moments. Again, this game has been in development for 10 years ... 10 years!! That fact is also a positive because with a 10 year dev. cycle comes ton of depth and hidden goodies/ things to do. This game is HUGE!

    3. Characters: Embrace the JRPG protagonists/ antagonists and the weirdness that comes with a game like this. Once you do, you will find their humor and development enriching. There is a ton of depth here. Get past preconceived notions of looks and instead explore the emotions and motivations that lay beneath the surface... they are present in this game and how you interpret the events unfolding is your own unique experience. This way of experiencing a JRPG leads to more rewarding overall experience.

    4. Watch Kingsglaive/5 animated shorts: They add a lot of background for what is going on. It makes the initial wtf is going on moments way less and adds depth to certain characters popping in and out (Example and very minor spoiler: I freaked during that early moment when you see Titus at King Regis side when Noct is leaving on his trip. Only someone who watched Kingsglaive will understand that relationship this early in the game. Two total bad asses with intertwined fates.)

This is a great game, on the brink of an all time great. FF is back folks, deal with it.

The game has so much downtime where absolutely nothing happens, I could get a good rest before starting the interesting stuff again. Final Fantasy XV is the game that many people have waited for since 2006.
It's the game that Final Fantasy XIII should have been. Throughout the entire of the PS3 life cycle there was a clear lack of AAA JRPG's and those that did grace the platform, did so only to disappoint.

Is Final Fantasy XV a perfect game? No. Is it the best Final Fantasy game? No. But it's without a doubt the best entry we've had since Final Fantasy X and it returns the franchise to its former glory.

For a start FFXV's soundtrack composed by Yoko Shimomura may be the best FF soundtrack of all time. (Yes you read that right), each track is more memorable than the last and in the heat of battle these arrangements will send shivers down your spine.

The battle system whilst not entirely perfect is the best battle system we've had in over a decade, over the last few instalments Square have tried to find something between the turn based ATB system & real time combat, but the truth is none of them really worked. By allowing FFXV to be dominated by real time combat you get a combat system that works for both newcomers and a hardcore fan base and not only that but the battles are actually really fun, aside from the severe lack of magic & summons.

The story can be hard to follow at times, but what did you expect? this is Final Fantasy!
Thankfully the world of Eos is a beautifully realised one, where the people you meet and the places you visit feel just as real as the controller in your hand. The core of the story is relatively short for a Final Fantasy game but that's only because there is so much optional stuff to do in the world that adds to it.

At the end of the day the story of Final Fantasy isn't about a prince trying to reclaim his throne.
It's about the journey you take to get there.. and what a story it is.

I can honestly say that I've never approached a game with more excitement, apprehension, and hype as I have with this one, but after playing it I can honestly say that it was well worth the wait. Final Fantasy 12 was the last entry that I truly enjoyed and unfortunately because of the tragedy that was and forever will be known as the Lightning trilogy, it's been 10 years since I've been able to sit down and be excited about a main entry Final Fantasy game. Sorry but I don't play MMOs. I'm sure they are great but they're just not for me. The original sprite based Final Fantasy games 1 through 6, and the PlayStation 1 classics will always be near and dear to my heart. They were my favorite games growing up and they will probably always be my favorite games of all time, but that said Final Fantasy 15 feels like the progression that should have come after Final Fantasy 12. It is the perfect blend of everything I enjoy about modern day Western open world RPGs mixed with very essence of what makes jrpgs and Final Fantasy in general great. It even mixes in a few elements from games outside of the RPG genre and is obviously influenced from games like Uncharted and Shadow of the colossus which is definitely a plus in my book.
From the gameplay to the story and everything in between this game is a complete masterpiece and although there are areas where you can see some of the results of a game that's been in incubation for 10 years, the pros far outweigh any of that and I can honestly say with great confidence that my excitement in this great franchise that is Final Fantasy is fully restored!

Also little details in the game make the experience so much better. For example Prompto is always taking random pictures with his camera, at first I thought this was "meh..." but then I realised that as a MMORPG player I love taking screenshots. Saving the best photos and looking the album at the end of the game will be very cool IMO.

The OST is amazing like in every Final Fantasy, combined with great environment design makes a very immersive experience.

Square did a great job and I think everyone should try it before screaming that "It's not FF because it's not turn based".

The only thing that I'm missing is the 'hard' difficulty option, it should be available from the start for veteran players even if it was just HP/Damage increase from enemies. Overall 10/10 though, I'm 12 hours into the game and loving it!

    STORY:

If you haven't watched kingsglave or brotherhood then the story might make little sense to you. A lot of the problem with the story is that its so heavily linked to other parts of the XV franchise. It is actually a good story not a great story but one that was most memorable and enjoyable. My suggestion to you before playing the game is to go watch Kingsglaive and brotherhood to give yourself a bit of backbone to piece things together in the game. Besides the ramble the characters at first glance may not seem to be what you would class as awesome characters just by looks but when you get into the game you feel like your one of the buddies and somethings can hit you right in the chest.

    GAMEPLAY:

Gameplay, for the most part is extremely different from the traditional ATB or TBS style gameplay combat system reminds me a little of DMC with its own twist. be wary though as there are still bugs within the combat gameplay sometimes when you hold for parry it might not actually parry and just dodge you instead which can be annoying for later bosses that require you to parry to advance. Sometimes your warp strikes will also send you across the map but I guess the bugs give it a little character? There is also the issue of frame rate sometimes in battle it can drop down to about 10 frames if its chaotic.

    EXPLORATION:

if you are a fan of open world this game maybe for you. Mind you I did find that some of the areas became bland and boring the more I moved around and had to go back to that same area for side quests. It feels like a general MMO with a vast world you can get into.

    DESIGN/GRAPHICS:

Fantasy based on reality was the term used to market this game. Graphics can look a tad outdated, harsh edges and problems with physics trick the mind to going into uncanny valley. Hair in this game looks pretty low poly and sharp. It would have been nice to see some better texture on the environment as well. Overall design is okay but graphics could have been updated and optimised.

    OVERALL:

Final Fantasy XV is a good game. It is hard to tell you whether or not you should pick up the game. Honestly its really your own choice. It plays pretty well to story and exploration for the most part. If you like fast paced action then you should enjoy this game.

    PROS:
    - pretty good story
    - memorable characters
    - alright soundtrack
    - combat system is somewhat unique
    - The regalia is customisable
    CONS:
    - buggy framerate in battles
    - outdated textures
    - bug haven
    - story hard to follow if not done prerequisites

And why the emo hair for the boys? Why do they style their hair like this before going on a trip to save the world? Just why? Why do we have to play such people? And how can Square Enix not realize this totally clashes with traditional JRPG shenanigans? In JRPGs you go out and try to survive, hunt wild animals, kill them, eat them, you're poor, you try to get around. In FFXV you're a rich little pince with emo hair and real life brand clothes and STILL hunt wild animals and beat them up with your big sword for hours while laughing with blonde.

    What is this terrible game?

    1/10.

Best JRPG you can get in this whole generation.
+Yet another great open world for an exciting trip and in-depth exploration.

+The best battle system you can get from any RPG. Tier-1 ACT-game-quality battle.
    +Music.

    -Bugs.
-Side ops. SE should learn from CDPR for this.
    -Story telling could be improved.
-Character. I really really need a female in the team. Simply need a female's voice in the battle to balance their "masculine chaos".

Wow. That's the first i said as the game loaded up. I was met by the beautiful sound of some sensual classical music while the final fantasy logo stared me down. I was ready. The game is immense in the conjunction of fantasy and reality. It weaves itself in and out through the reality that we know, blending so perfectly with the fantasy of imagination that i often find myself getting lost in the magical sense. The combat flows like water, something i have seen so many games attempt yet fall short of. The artwork of this game is something of a spectacular to behold. If you enjoy looking at things of beauty, you'll love this game. Everything looks beautiful, even the monsters. The story isn't a world class novel but more like a grade A+ short story that will keep you wondering. Overall the strongest feature this game has to offer is its ability to make you feel immersed in this divine fantasy world. Amazing. Expand

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
