Great gameplay and absolutely braindead writting, you’ll cringe 100% of the time anybody is talking. Shameful that the gameplay is so comparatively good, play on mute and skip all cinematics

I hate this game with passion, it is such a waste of potential, the gameplay loop is great, the ideo of not having to climb towers to reveal the map is great, but the story is just complete garbage. I would recommend to just play side quests and explore the world, but the game forces you to continu the story. Such a waste!

A classic Far Cry game. But more refined than others. I think artificial intelligence is very bad. I am of the opinion that it is a game below the mediocre as a story. It made me spend pleasant hours, but I don't think I will play this game again.

I think it's a pretty okay game, Nothing else. Regular gameplay, regular graphics and and normal history. Nothing too deep and no further innovations. Farcry 4 had some greater mechanics... at least Joseph was a good character. Anyway, i had some fun.

Nothing special Story was on Start great but at the end of the story not so good. That could be better, gameplay was OK also. I am not a fan from ego perspective in open-worlds but that was not so but. I hope far cry 6 make that better.

Kinda fun gameplay and it looks good. The story is just kinda bad honestly, The characters are boring. The structure of the story just makes it seem unimportant. There's zero depth to the story, or it isn't comunicated well. the open world is fun to explore which is a plus. I recommend it if you like far cry games but it doesnt offer anything new or intersting.

The gameplay is pretty fluid however but not something that i havent seen in previous far cry games so the mechanics get a 7,5/10
Level design however i think it centers on more big but forgets the fun, challenging and engaging part so really mediocre on this one 5/10 idk.
Open world: this has to be on of the laziest map in far cry, it feels like it should be explored more but actually you just get more swarmed with enemies on a really flat map so that wasn t fun at all the exploring but ig graphics pretty decent so a 7/10 6/10. Its nowhere near the witcher 3 or red dead 2, or net even far cry 3 witch came 6 years prior

Follows the classic far cry gameplay of a mad maniac controlling a specific area and the user must run around the map destroying propaganda, animals, outposts, and anything that stands in your way. Overall game is fun if you like the far cry series, but it definitely gets tedious and repetitive. The score gets brought down due to a absolute terrible ending.

The flying and driving mechanics are horrible in this game. They were good in Wildlands, so not sure why Ubisoft had to mess with it. The AI that controls "guns for hire" isn't very good.

It is easily the worst game I have ever played to the end and I have been playing and finishing video games since 1985.
EDIT: I have moved my score up from a 2 to a 5, not because of the campaign. Actually my opinion of it is even lower than before since starting New Game+ to see the hidden ending and realizing that even in New Game+ you cannot skip the horrendous, nauseating story scenes that make me want to grab the game designers by the ears and scream "WTF were you thinking?"

What saves this game from being utter trash is Arcade Mode and the community created content. One day in Arcade mode and I am having more fun than in the weeks it took me to do the campaign. And when I say more fun, I mean drastically more fun. Even so I can't give this game a good review. Arcade is great, and I can't wait to cut my teeth in the editor, but the campaign is so bad it is downright grotesque. If not for Arcade I would still feel cheated buying the game at a discount. If you get this, be prepared for a horribly designed campaign mode that is only any fun when it leaves you alone and actually lets you play in the sandbox. But Arcade is actually a pretty good consolation prize.

Far Cry 5 does nothing else like its predecessors. You're always served the same thing. Only the content and appearance are different.
I got it for only 28€ and therefore I am satisfied. But don't forget to order in advance. 60€ is simply too much for the game. Now you can buy it without hesitation, the successor will come out in 2019 anyway

First off, the setting of Montana is very simple and rural, and while they did do a good job with capturing that, I feel as if they picked a simple and rural setting because of how....well....simple it is. Not much design to be done in a setting like this, and at times some areas feel copy and paste as others. The story also is very bland. Feels like a mini Ghost Recon Wildlands in terms of different Bosses for different Regions, in which each region you have to slowly liberate to get to each bosses breaking point so to speak so there is a lot of repetition. Also to add to my last point, I don't think they show enough of the villain characters throughout your playthrough to fully grow to like em or hate em. What also makes this game boring is how clunky the shooting mechanics are and always have been in Far Cry games. It hasn't completely hurt my experience with this game, but, the fact that this games clunky shooting can get a pass but games like Homefront Revolutions' or Sniper Ghost Warrior 3s' similar mechanics don't is head scratching. The A.I., both enemies and companions are laughable and stupid as stupid can get. I shoot enemy from his right side, he calmly turns and shoots then runs away from me, in which i chase him, he turns and stares at me like a frozen idiot and allows me to melee him to death or i throw remote explosive at a car, and the enemies jump out and stand still as if to say "stand your ground, this explosion below our feet won't blow our souls out of our bodies." I get that the A.I. in games can't be perfect at times but this game has so many moments with or against the A.I. that left me shaking my head at how unpolished they feel. Also scavenging and crafting is far too dumb'd down in comparison to previous Far Cry games, and removes a level of satisfaction in going around scavenging. Also it would've been nice to have a deeper set of weapons and/or gadgets to choose from.. this is supposed to be modern day and your character is supposed to be this Superman like Bad mofo.. yet, I find myself getting kills in similar ways. Would've been neat to have remote controlled explosives, shock drones, Poison darts and/or Poison for food and drinks while Stealth or even more melee weapon variety like having Swords, Battles Axes, Spiked Bats, etc.. in which have different animations.. My point is, this game does have an array of ways to kill but doesn't put emphasis on them other than completing simple challenges with specific weapons. As a whole, this game is dumb fun that i will admit I enjoy when i wanna play an open world game that I wanna be a destructive force in and kill time...but it's not a game I rush home from work to play, and a lot of times I find myself sitting at my Playstation debating if i'm in the mood to play it or not. Not saying it's a bad game, just stating how I feel about it and how i feel is that it is a game that hasn't captured me or kept me interested as consistently as I thought it would and it is because how boring and "typical open world gameplay" it is...nothing innovative or different and the setting adds to that bland feel. Wanted to like this game, but just couldn't. There is nothing wow about it, but then again there is nothing terrible. Very run of the mill, and I also can't get my head around the fact it takes a full clip with a SMG to kill a Turkey, but one hit of a baseball bat for the actual enemies. There are far better titles out on the PS4 which would serve better.

Yes, I know I could probably beat the game improving things, trying new tactics or finding better companions but I'm not that patient any more and because I got this game borrowed and I don't mind to quit. So, I think it would have been a good idea to let you choose an easier level for those who prefer to focus on the story. I haven't watched the end but from my experience and having beaten Far Cry 3 some years ago I think this game could be rated with a 7 or an 8 at most. Gameplay is good but I think the game should be shorter or to put more story things during game because if not you can lose interest in the game. To sum up, this game is nothing out of the ordinary and it's not a bad game per se but know that you might end up stuck or having to repeat some missons if you are not a pro or you stick only to the main missions. 1. You get kidnapped/drugged 9 times.
    2. You can't drive the slowest cars I've ever seen in a game 50 feet without an animal or friendly running out into the road, or getting shot at.
    3. The airplanes/helicopters troll you more than the dragons did in Skyrim.
    4. Most of the weapons are just reskins. There's maybe 10 guns in the game.
    5. The ending is terrible. After a short 30 hour or so campaign you would have been better off just walking away at the beginning.

Far Cry has never been my favorite series, but always good enough for a couple dozen hours of play. So not expecting a game of the year, but still disappointed Ubi dropped the ball on some big things

    Pros:
    Beautiful looking game
Most sound effects and the addition of an echo

    Cons:
Feels like the least amount of destructible-environment I have seen since FC2
You can't shoot TVs or even turn radios off
The music matched the them, but just the Pause menu music got so annoying, I switched Music to Off
    Glitchy game right now 3/31/18
I hear and see a vehicle of enemies pulling up towards me, and will randomly disappear entirely
I have gotten stuck several times acending a wall with the grappling hook
The amount of times NPCs have you locked into a conversation when you are getting a radio call from someone, or bad guys are shooting you, or the most recent for me; getting bit by a rattlesnake. I suppose it makes it more realistic, but meh
Stores in-game seem to all want to connect to Ubisoft online or something, because they take forever to load up and sometimes get stuck
The loading times suck in this game. Yeah, it's huge and graphical, but so was Wildlands, and I feel strong those loading times were slightly less
Crafting is almost completely gone. You can craft a few explosive devices, and that's it I believe. And you pick those up all the time anyway. This makes looting and hunting almost obsolete, as money comes by better with just side and main missions.
Gun variety seems to have taken a step back from FC4. I suspect Ubi is gonna try and push micro transactions heavily on guns and vehicles.
Blow up cars or helicopters just kind of hang around as a blackened version of itself, never splitting into pieces or blowing up entirely
The game wasn't hard, but I decided to drop the difficulty level from Hard to Normal just because of how frequently bad guys pop-up EVERYWHERE. Can't get a 30 sec reprieve without them lining up.
This makes stealth play pretty useless, with how easy it is to get caupght. I had a silenced sniper that works sometimes, but try to shoot a lone sniper on a tall barn roof? Everyone around goes on alert. Needs tweaking.

    Par:
Story - Bad guys are okay with decent voice acting. Better than Wildlands, and they can't keep trying to replicate Vaas, so that's fine
Driving is done a good bit on dirt roads, so can be a bit of a pain to make quick escapes and turns, but adds to the realism
They abandoned giving your character a voice, like Ubi finally realized their usual main characters are so darn cookie-cutter, that they couldn't figure anything out better than silence
Create a character is something I always love, but this round is so useless as a pure FPS, and the options seem even more cash grabby than WIldlands

In the end, I found myself wishing some of the game was more like Dying Light, as this game is a par Far Cry game, but took some shuffles back on some of the most important aspects of what makes a game a Far Cry game for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lmao, this game is so bad in so many ways but I’m going to focus on the joke of an arcade mode. First off, they have a stupid picking system where only the most brain dead people in earth can write a review and they let 5 people pick; and yet while I wait in lobbies for several god awful matches I still can never pick and only the retards who pick the worst maps can. Even the ‘featured’ maps which aren’t made by Ubisoft themselves are pretty horrible and the gameplay is SOOO bad. After going through and getting into a lobby with a bunch of idiots who spam the remote explosives (like Bo2’s C4’s except Bo2 multiplayer was actually fun, than you’ll find there’s no load out customization and that you spawn with a stupid secondary rather than a primary weapon. The melee weapons are so unbalanced and there’s a Ubisoft published map that has stupid modifiers in a MULTIPLAYET game; its not a fun mode like mike Myers or something; there’s INFINITE AMMO, along with a bunch of other **** So everybody just picks the remote explosives and you don’t get any negatives for dying so people can just suicide bomb and they only get a positive. The matches last for WAYYY to long and there’s no action or fun moments; 10minutes and 100killd to win for a sluggish boring mode, with no balancing, customization, and the absolutely retarded takedown system where on the FFA wizard fetaured map you just get killed by the hacker who can takedown 5 people and sustain 12 melee hits while he 1 shots you. Not only did they make the new takedown system completely unfun and frustrating but WHY in the multiplayer. There’s no balancing, a cesspool of **** unbalanced, 1 minute to make maps that these idiots actually vote for and they just use the most unfun **** long loading ones, obnoxious player base, and horrible gameplay, they didn’t change anything from the campaign and therefore there’s no balancing and it’s all just thrown in with no thought. This game doesn’t deserve any praise and the campaign got repetitive and the ‘bunker’/bliss **** got so obnoxious and unfun. The only good thing at the beginning was some somewhat fun side missions and the ending. The arcade mode was tacked on and if you buy this game in the hopes of getting extra playtime you will be THIROUGHLY dissapointed. Game of The Year my ass Expand

The story, which I won't get into detail about, is not exactly uplifting or positive. It's like every other Ubisoft game: fight against many different enemies that pretty much look the same until you "kill" the boss enemy after which the ending is very negative and therefor not rewarding for all your hard work.

Ubisoft should be able to do a lot better than this. I'm really tired of this writing style which I've seen in Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed Black Flag / Unity / Syndicate (I couldn't even play Origins for more than five minutes) and frankly many more. They should take a look into Uncharted, Spider-man, GTA V and several other games which contain about as much violence and as crazy aggressive antagonists, but still are way more fun to play, and certainly more fun to finish.

However, Far Cry 5s problems are not just with the critical design but also the characters and forced plot. I will keep it spoiler free, but there are approximately ten times you are removed from the open world and forced to watch what Ubisoft has considered important. Not only are these instances unavoidable but they interrupt the flow of any fun you may have been having. For example, I was jumping out a plane skydiving roughly 200 ft in the air which then cut to black, tied to a chair, and forced to hear the family talk about "moral" choices.

All and all you could pick a worse action adventure FPS open world game but this one had so many little annoyances that the overall experience was ruined.

Firstly, the world - yes it looks amazing, but there's so much expanse, when it needn't be that large. I think this kind of adds to my boredom.

The enemies, thick as ****, and they appear to be clones - so busting into a base with the M60 chugging away, or hiding on a billboard silently sniping - it just feels like shooting fish in a barrel. The AI give no challenge whatsoever and are simply dull targets to practice on.

I don't care for the story or characters - I feel no connection to anyone in the game, and care not if they live or die; same goes for the much applauded 'companions' you can take with you - though the sniper woman can be handy.

Hunting, fishing, whatever - bore bore bore, I just cannot bring myself to do any of it. I appreciate that is personal, but I can't help but feel it is just padding.

Far Cry (the original on PC) was great in its day - a real tech demo for putting your newly built machine through its paces, the game went a bit awry with the monsters, but was fun to play. Far Cry 2 felt like a gritty return of the king, but everything since has just been a copy and past retread of mush.

А, некоторые задания, такие как «По газам» это издевательство для игрока.

The game looks very good, and played quite well on Easy (I'm a casual gamer). However... the unskippeable 'mini missions' (of the three sub cult leaders) TOTALLY ruined the game for me. I got stuck on the 3rd one of Jacob, and how much I tried I couldn't (and cannot) get past it. An important reason for that: it is very tightly timed (again: for a casual player).

Why not make it skippeable after X tries (on Easy)? Well, probably because it wasn't playtested enough. Or because Ubisoft hates their customers. Who can tell.
But it makes me hate the game with a vengeance now, and I will not touch a Ubisoft game anytime soon.

I am a fan of the Far Cry series but this will be my last purchase of anything Far Cry, to save everyone time I just put dot points to the highs and lows of FC5.

    The Good:
Core game play is still great with one man gorilla army being the major draw of the series

Some of the side characters are a lot of fun

Looks great and may be my favorite setting of the series

Gets political but not in an annoying way, especially seeing how it makes fun of my camp of politics with it feeling satirical rather then an attack on my way of thinking. This has one exception unfortunately.

    The Bad:
Just about all main missions are boring and lacking in creativity. The game often abandons the Gorilla warfare/tool box design and puts you in a small room or hallway with set spawns for enemy's turning the game into a painfully average shooter. Focus on what makes the game great and build on that, have open areas where you can approach the objective in many ways rather then a bad COD mission.

Hard mode is a mixed bag, with just enemy damaged values and visibility of the player character increased so the lazy way of doing a hard mode. Works well in the open world as it makes you play more conservative and cautiously, amplifying the Gorilla warfare angle of the series. But story missions are awful on hard mode with you having no choice but fight head on, at best it s a grind and at worst its almost unplayable, just try the opening mission on hard.

Hunting is way less of a focus and is just for money and not upgrades, considering the setting this was a huge shock. Also it feels very grindy to get money from hunting, this feeling is amplified by micotrasactions in the single player.

The randomness of the world back fires often with you dying from events completely out of your control, a lot of this is attributed to enemy vehicles that are a lot more common in this game then the rest of the series.

AI needed a little more time in the oven, friendly NPC often are more detrimental to your efforts then any assistance they can offer. Roaming friendly NPC's will straight up get you killed.

The Antagonists are trying really hard to be menacing but just come off as incompetent idiots. Also having the bad guys just talk to you while the player character just stands there and stares is just frustrating, guess they where hoping we would be entranced by the performances not to notice.......

Story takes the ever so popular nihilistic view of the world which ends up just being cute.

Ending is trying hard to say something but like the rest of the story misses the mark, mostly from its nihilistic views. Worst part is it makes you never want to play it again.

Trump references can take you out of the game and boil down to 'Orange Man Bad'. Satire is fine but its hinted that Trumps election is a major motivation for the main antagonist...'roles eyes'.

    Conclusion:
This is Far Cry, its a goofy game where you take on a whole army with Gorilla style warfare. Learn to read an audience and focus on what makes these games fun or completely re-hall it and give us a brand new experience. Middle of the road design just gives you mediocrity and that is what we have here, a painfully mediocre game with moments of greatness and an almost embarrassing story.

5/10, I ended up just being disappointed

Sometimes your target straight up falls into a buggy loop or randomly just drops dead and your mission succeeds. Wanna do stealth? Enemies sometimes see corpses that are well hidden, or sometimes a random NPC runs into the compound and starts a fight with the outpost and ruins your stealth run. What the actual fck? Can Ubisoft even program?
Edit: okay I forced myself to finish the game. I think this game's story is written by a mountain troll. By far the weakest story in the far cry franchise, for crying out loud even in the whole gaming history.

Gameplay: many people say this is the most fun Far Cry game ever had in terms of gameplay variety. I can not agree. Things you do on Island No.1 are the same things you do on other 2 islands and they are not that fun, because you did all that in previous games and because all those activities are executed poorly. If you captured one base, you've captured them all. It is a game for those who like spending hours to search for collectibles, get a badge and custom made rediculous rocket launcher skin. It is a game for those who like to come home, capture one base, kill some animals, sell stuff and buy a bigger grenade sack. It is not bad, it is just I think I got tired of that tedious activity. Oh, and I am also angry at Ubisoft for selling rehashed resourses over and over again for full price.

As for many other titles released by the (in)famous software house, FarCry5 is doomed by bugs at day 1 release. After about 4 hours of play, I got a gamebreaking bug that forced me to restart my gamethrough from scratch (Ubisoft support obviusly can't help, and, as always, it ends up like hitting a gumwall with your head). The bug is related to a mission where you need to recover a vehicle: as I died after getting back that vehicle, but before being able to bring it to final destination, I'm stuck into the mission as the the vehicole is not in existence anymore and I'm not allowed to "Exit Mission", as doing that simply bring me back to last saved checkpoint. And the suggested solution from the support team is to just cloud your saves often. Because yeah, I pay 60bucks to being forced to backup save each half an hour or so. Additionally the game suffers some fps drops even on PS4Pro and the manual save simply don't works.

The game "per se" is still a good FarCry staple, plenty of activities and stuff to do, even if way too chaothic if the randomizer decide to strike hard on you (try to stay at a crossroads for few minutes, and you'll probably won't be able to move around anymore due to the amount of enemy vehicles will ammass in the area, just because they pass by and get involved in gunfight), with some nice new way on how acquiring objectives works. The graphics are very good (as long as you don't fly) and the gameplay is solid (the story is a bit of a meh, even if it does offers interesting bosses, opposed to the basci enemies that are so repetitive it hurts) but none of these good aspects are truly innovative and surely don't balance Ubisoft abitude to release unfinished, unpolished retail products.

Review for Game Pass 2022 arrival:
Relentless random combat that escalates forever, disjointedly fast story pacing where you can't digest an event before another starts, annoying set piece battles that always end up as a defense against a bum rush making the special weapons provided for the set battle pointless. Worst of all, a progression bar that triggers main story cut scenes and battles seemingly no matter where you are or what you are doing. The context of the cut scene triggers makes no sense, literally pulling you right out of immersion without any way to stop it.

A spoiler free example of what to expect.
You're walking and get spotted by random enemies, as you fight more enemies keep arriving, randomly and enemy called support teams. It amounts to a slowly escalating population of a small town coming in on foot, cars, ATVs, planes, helicopters. Fight meh combat until death or run, like you are suddenly a walking U.S. airport on Thanksgiving day. As you run you get into another random fight just seconds later with the same exact people still chasing you, rinse repeat, no escape, what is happening. Tactics, strategy? No, this is Sparta. What seems like random fights might have an unrecognizable minor NPC killed that somehow moves the progression bar. Just don't free any captives during the battle, they are actually supposed to be separate encounters but large battles can end up involving these bar movers and that triggers cut scenes. Cut scenes just trigger when the bar is full no matter what.

You may encounter a small grain warehouse or other type farm/town like structures that are small enemy bases. Clear them and your allies arrive in numbers, after the battle of course, in standard Far Cry style, and you have a new base. Then, almost instantly, in the middle of your fresh won base, in broad daylight, surrounded by friendly armed forces, totally out of context, a cut scene starts and your a prisoner in a van at night engaging with main villains. What is happening? The van is struck by a something and tumbles over, a person pulls you out talking as if they have known you for a long time but you have no clue who this person is. Before you can try to get a grip on that mess instantly a set piece battle begins. Man the stationary weapon or we'll all die. Its an overhead targeting mode weapon so you can't see the immediate area around your body. You aim and fire the weapon in this top down mode and suddenly you are being beat to death as you man the weapon but you can't see the enemy doing it. You must exit the weapon mode to live and its now a standard gunfight for the rest of the banzai rush battle. The cool weapon mode was pointless when it could have been great.

While this game somewhat had the basic repeated formula of previous Far Cry, the ridiculous combat pacing and insane random cut scenes made me feel like the game was washing me along like river rapids while I struggled to get a breath. Its even worse when you come back after a day or two and the insanity starts right off again. Its was enough to give me an anxiety attack just anticipating giving it another shot in hope it improved. I was relieved to give it up and uninstall. I have no clue about the story, I was to busy trying to understand how I got plucked out of the game into a cut scene that may as well been on Mars. I loved 1-3, skipped 4, so I can't say Far Cry fans will like this iteration. If you can get it free, try on the feel, but I would not pay more than $10 for this nightmare. Nice graphics though and a good fps test for PC builders.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Has decent graphics, not good, for this generation. Most of my play sessions had at least one bug that killed a quest or was just generally annoying.

The sound design is great, though.

There is almost no variation in guns, and most of them are the same, so there is no point.

Characters are pretty fun, except the 'villains'. They're just annoying, talking way too much when my character is the most passive waste of a main character when they're not shooting stuff.

Most of the gameplay is fun (in the absence of bugs), but one particular boss fight forces you through very bad airplane controls to fight another plane and it's just frustrating. And there is no satisfaction of killing them because the game is too enamored with them to allow the main character to overcome them. You kill one of these **** and the game turns it on you as if you're the bad person. Because torture, drugging and brainwashing is now acceptable, apparently. This is all because of the sewage that is called 'story' with this game.

The real problem is with the story, then. Turns out that the evil **** kidnaping people, drugging them, stealing, destroying property, abusing animals, torturing people, was right all along, and the only way to get a half good ending is to not play the game, giving up before the end of the prologue. And that is assuming that it's not all just in vain because of an asspull of a plot twist of nuclear weapons being detonated. In Montana. The obvious implication being that Joseph was right, actually had prophesized the future, was protected by God, and... I don't know. Nothing makes any sense in that ending to the point there are people theorizing it's a hallucination because of the drugs the guy dumps on the ground before the final fight. Makes more sense than the actual story...

It's said that there are signs of it all over, like the radio, that I never listened to because every time I was on a car, there were murderous cultists crawling up my ass, trying to kill me or one of Joseph's lieutenants spewing their **** all over again, as if you're supposed to feel bad for playing the game. And that is when the NPCs weren't bugging and repeating their lines over and over.

What a piece of **** So, I guess this is games now. A story that punishes you for playing the game. How about people punish Ubisoft for terrible writing by not playing their games? People complained of Mass Effect 3, but in that game, you didn't lose, even though you had won. People complained of Mass Effect: Andromeda, but at least, the whole gameplay isn't pointless because the villain wasn't right all along. People complained about ET, way back in the Atari 2600, but at least the story wasn't a pointless waste of time!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall the game is good with the variety of side missions and things to do in the game. The fictional Montana county of Hope is broken up into 3 areas each controlled by the Main bosses lieutenants. In each area the goal is to get to 3 levels of resistance so you can face off with the lieutenant and free that area. The problem is when you get to each level of resistance they send out capture parties to take you captive. And that is when the problems for this game begin. You get captured no matter what you do. Sure you can defeat the capture parties that come continuously and non stop but then you will get hit out of nowhere with a "Bliss bullet". You can be up in an aircraft or helicopter or in the middle of an outpost that is full of your specialists and half a dozen other non player characters. It doesn't matter you will get captured. If you are doing the math that's 3 levels of resistance times 3 areas and that equals getting CAPTURED 9 TIMES! That's right you will be captured and forced to do story missions at least 9 times throughout the campaign. It totally breaks any immersion that you may have and frustrates you to no end. All the people around you basically stand by and watch you get captured it is so unrealistic. I have stopped playing the game because of it. If you like being forced to do missions whether you want to or not then you will love this game, otherwise go play something else until UBISOFT decides to stop being lazy and actually think of other ways to move the story along. I can't believe this got through play testing and made it into the actual game. I have talked alot about this but it's only because it is that jarring and lazy. I could understand getting captured a few times even though it is a way overused trope but 9 TIMES? That is unacceptable. I will gladly change my review if they ever decide to remove the feature and come up with another non lazy way to move the story forward. Expand

It's a typical Far Cry game with most of the same Far Cry stuff in it. For the most part, as most of the other Far Cry games it's about an 8/10 but I can't stand the amount of laziness that goes into most recent games, including this one. I'll update my score when and if they ever patch the game with proper environment destruction and gyro aiming, but as it stands 4/10 => aka lame and lazy when talking about a game that can be easily made one of the very good games of this generation with jut a bit of love and care for the consumers.

I did my best to like this game after hearing mostly positive reviews, praising the open world, mission structure and the like. I thought I would be able to play it my own way... boy, was I fooled. Gone are the days of choosing my loadout and going for the stealth approach. Now the way the perk points/leveling system work you end up having to do things and use weapons you may never have wanted to use; like for me, running into a base with a flamethrower all the while hucking grenades just to earn a few extra perk points. The missions you do don't even contribute to your experience bar, because you don't have one, and therefore just end up feeling like mostly a time waste. Yes, doing many of the missions does propel you through the story by way of resistance points, but that won't make your character better and in turn leaves me less driven to do them; the storyline is one of the weakest in the series, after the opening introduction much steam is lost. The world in itself may be nice, but feels aimless in that you're given very little direction.

If you just want an open world to explore, or find yourself hard up for some Ubisoft Club points, by all means give the game a wirl, it may be for you. I however find this game to be a downgrade in many ways, from the silent protagonist to the directionless mission structure, it is not for me and I feel very misled. At the very least do yourself a favor and wait for a sale.

I have played all the Far Cry games and absolutely hated this one. I find that, for some reason, Ubisoft went out of their way to fill the game with shock factor instead of focusing more on the game play.

It was quite alarming to see dead bodies strewn all over the place and people hung for bridges. This did not add to the game play whatsoever. Neither did a constant and seemingly endless stream of enemies to take down. You clear out an area, yet there were legions of enemies that continue to show up to shoot things up. It made no sense. If you cleared out an area, why aren't the people who now populate these areas taking care of these hordes of enemies. And of course, they only target you.

I had multiple issues with collision detection throughout the game. Empty a full magazine at an enemy while they just stand there and three shot you. This happened many times. Too many.

Some of the side missions were seriously bugged. One were you have to talk to a guy and get into his car for him to drive you to a new location. He wouldn't get in the car. And if enemies or a forest creature show up, in interrupts the whole thing and you have to clear everything out. Even then, you can't talk to the guy anymore to get the mission going again. Another mission where you have to follow a helicopter once the baddie gets into it. The guy wouldn't get in! Then when he did, the Helicopter would disappear off the screen and you fail the mission because it's too far away. Another where you have to kill bears. As I'm killing bears I clip one of the townspeople running away from it, and the town starts shooting at me! Another where you have to use your grappling hook to reach a cache of goodies. Good lord, was that bugged. No matter how many times I tried, the hook would glitch and I would fall to my death. Another mission where I scope out the entire area and there are no enemies at all save two guys trying to drown a civilian. I kill one of the guys and suddenly it's like some underground bunker opens up and 25 enemies show up out of the blue. They were nowhere in site when I reconned the area. No bunker. But they show up out of the clear blue sky.

Gorgeous graphics. Water looks amazing. Too frustrating.

The story is just stupid so disjointed the ending was just lazy and ruined what credibility the narrative held. The finale boss fights with the seeds didn't make any sense there deaths were lame. The writers need to take a good look at the real cultists the corrupt governments of this world.plenty of reality there to make a good story. However, this all does not excuse a mediocre far cry experience. I felt like i was playing far cry 2 demo from 2006 (nothing seemed groundbreaking)
    PROS:
+Initially fun until you realize all the areas are repetitive, do stuff, cause stuff, get kidnapped, and rinse/repeat; it's good bubblegum but loses flavor fast.
+graphics are stellar (I am on Ps4 NOT-PRO and no crash no major frps drop after 45 hours)
+The setting (good to see small town america get some justice even if it felt a little over diversified for the sake of diversity; excluding this, it is a faithful depiction of a rural American town)
+Music is excellent (obviously those who have disdain for America and specifically Middle America will find our folk music not their cup of tea (I'm speaking to you EuroGamer. Complaining about the setting is underhanded jab at America and ignorant as hell)
+The Setting. I for one am happy I am not in ANOTHER foreign jungle where the people and setting are less relatable (see that's not fair for me to say about the previous far cry's, but the game critics certainly refuse to look at it from our side. Only theirs is valid...)
-->The setting preference is that at the end of the day. Preference. And I thought this game was "bland and formulaic" it definitely tried to break its ubigame criticism by changing the venue. The elitist game journalists aren't happy that it shows everyday America in a positive light (imo)

    NEUTRAL:
+Gun variety and main weapon customization (could be better. Putting a silencer on every weapon without a penalty kinda makes it foolish TO NOT USE silencers)
-+Gunplay: kinda feels phoned in. Good enough but that's it, it's neither satisfying nor unsatisfying to shoot a weapon)
-+Lack of a better melee/close quarter combat system. While I love all the melee weapons. The stealth implementation could have had more meat to it. I wanted a counter attack system while getting attacked with a mekee weapon (some kind of skill based trigger like having to press a few buttons correctly in a row?)
-+ Story, not impressed. Felt contrived and rushed. As if far cry New Dawn was meant to be the true DLC to Far Cry 5...

    CONS
---Gameplay can and does get too chaotic for its own good (this is valid; but this is where most gaming journals end their empirical analysis of the game)
-->NPC's while you are speaking or trying to get a mission/plot moving forward can and do get mauled by animals and/or cultists descend out of nowhere
----PLAYERS CHARACTER IS FACELESS AND HAS NO DIALOGUE (this is the real reason why this game deserves a point off. Your character doesn't speak--this may have been a foolish attempt to immerse YOU in the game... The lack of dialogue whatsoever is glaring and at times frustrating that you would remain solent while torture scenes occurred)
---Half stepping Political message: the game makes jabs at both Obama and trump. But I think the trunk lampooning was far more accentuated. By trying to appeal WITH HALF MEASURES, Ubisoft has alienated both audiences: the game critics wanted a politically charged game that satirized today's culture war, and gamers just wanted an immersive, rewarding, good single player (yes single player games are important) game with player character having a personality or at least vocal chords.
-->This this game ended up alienating the PC crowd for not going "far enough" and the regular crowd for Ubisoft's attempt to pander to subversive elements in our country. We just wanted a good game good story.
So I couldn't find MANY honest veritable reviews about the game without reading user reviews.
Lazy video game journalists don't realize you must LOOT the body afterwards (criticism that $$ is hard to come by because they are trying to speed through the game to write their report and get back to their real life.
The cult is NOT white supremacist as all the journals were desperately drooling. The cult is directly relayed to Waco Texas and David Koresh.

UPDATE as of Jan 2019: game went to an 8...it's a modern fallout experience. It could have been more special sure. And stay away from the DLCs they are awful.
Ubisoft not even a year into this game's release they are unveiling far cry 5.5 aka the actual DLC to Far Cry 5 aka New Dawn... Basically a DLC for $40 bucks. Ubisoft is milking its cash cow :/

Honestly this game is okay. I am saddened. It's potential that went untapped because we the consumer didn't know the nefarious plan to double dip.

I hope ubisoft burn. At first, I defended this game, but now realized Ubisoft buttered us up to spend 100$ on this Far Cry 5 "experience" by Achilles heel the DLC and coming out with a 40$ DLC

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just completed the game and I'm bitterly disappointed. The story could have been compelling, but none of the characters are properly fleshed out, the pacing is way off and the scenes depicted in the open world completely ruin any attempt at mystique around the Cult and the key characters.

The most ready example is Faith - a young, attractive and seemingly vulnerable woman who is just the latest in a long line of troubled women to take on the personality of "Faith", all the others having been used up and murdered by The Father. It would be very, very easy to feel sympathy for her if there was a degree of ambiguity to her character. But just walking down any road in the region she controls, we see random men and women being murdered and their corpses mutilated by the side of the road. Tortured and chemically lobotomised prisoners tending huge drug crops. Mass graves pilied high with civilian bodies and those of her own followers. In short, you would have to be mentally disabled to actually feel sorry for the person responsible for that - no matter how cute she looks in her little fairy dress. It's also worth noting that all of your interactions with her are via hallucinations that may or may not have some level of reality to them. The result of this is that what should be a poignant moment after you kill her in the boss fight, just feels absolutely empty. To the best of my knowledge, your character only meets Faith in person for that fight - it's entirely possible that they've never actually spoken before and that all the sob stories she predictably fed you were entirely in your characters head.

Add to that the fact that the "Resistance Points" build up way too quickly, so you have remarkably little time to get to know the characters - if you just walk from one mission marker to another rather than fast travel, you're likely to accrue enough resistance points to get you to the next **** session with the area boss. This leaves you with precious little time to get to know the side characters, making for a pretty lonely experience. The lack of character development does nothing to help an already crap ending - as you approach the final bosses compound you find it completely empty (boring) and immediately get taken to a cutscene in which ALL of the secondary characters have been turned into cultists and are threatening to kill the three police officers you start the game with. I think this is supposed to lead to some emotional turmoil, but the secondary characters are so forgettable that I couldn't even remember half of them and you spend all of two minutes actually talking to your police friends. So why the hell would I care? Also, this turn of events absolutely smashes the logical consistency of the game. The Cult had been amassing power for years (somehow not attracting the attention of either the local or federal government) and by the beginning of the game are at the absolute height of their influence. You the player then tear down their empire brick by brick, destroying their resources, killing their members, killing their leaders and eventually leaving them with literally just the crappy little ranch the endgame takes place in. The whole time the cult have been trying to kill you and the other characters. They manage to capture both the player and side characters frequently, but somehow they always manage to escape and come out on top, despite the cult at those points being so powerful. Now though, with all of their property destroyed, their outposts taken, their leaders dead and a gun in the face of the final boss, they have somehow managed not only to capture EVERY SINGLE ONE of the secondary characters, but also convert them to the cult - making them at least loyal enough to be trusted with dozens of fully automatic weapons right in front of the cult leader. If this was at all possible, why didn't the cult do it before? If they have that capability now, once all their stuff is gone and their people dead, they MUST have been able to do it at the beginning when they were at the height of their strength, but apparently they didn't bother. It makes an already weak ending just plain ridiculous.

My final complaint is a lack of weapons to choose from, and also the existence of "prestige" weapons that can be bought from the beginning of the game and are essentially just the most powerful weapons in the game but with a unique paint job. They make the game far too easy and completely negate the drive to unlock more weapons, not that there's much to unlock anyway. The DLC guns being available in the main game is fun for a little while, but they're so overpowered that they get boring very quickly.

Positives: Nice music and the gameplay is functionally the same as Far Cry 4, which is a good thing. Shame the rest of the game isn't anywhere near as good.

You'll be exploring, maybe rappelling up a cliff to grab a prepper stash, only for a horde of cultist which you previously cleared to respawn randomly and down your companion, forcing you to abandon what you were doing to help. Same could be said of when you're fishing have to abandon a fish mid hook to deal with cultist that have spawned in the area and are now shooting you. Ruins the flow of the game. Other times, you'll clip into walls, steel beams, cliffs, etc, forcing you to do a hard reset. The driving is a shade above awful and you literally have 2 radio stations to help you ignore how bad the driving is. The gunplay is terrible. 3 and 4 felt snappy and precise enough to make it exciting. Gunplay in 5 is goopy, drifty and just full of awful recoil. The world of Montana is very pretty, but honestly pales in comparison to an Island paradise (3) or the Himalayan mountains (4).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far cry 5 is a game that takes a great idea for a story but manages to turn it into a Ubisoft game. What do I mean by a Ubisoft game? I mean a generic boring game that crashes every single time I fast travel. I played this game at launch, and about two weeks ago, all the way through both times. While it looks fine and plays fine, it takes a potentially interesting story with a idea and made it boring. Somehow managing to turn a cult in the U.S.A into something dull. The actor playing "The Father" is clearly talented and doing a great job, but his character is easily predictable, as he justifies everything he does with "God said to do it" which gets old really quick. The three sub bosses are a little better, but they're just three mentally ill people who have a place to hurt people which is as far as they go. The allied characters are all just one note bit parts like the sniper lady is from a military, or the preacher just an unhinged preacher. In that it remains dull. Having the character you play as not speak, or even have a real name, can work in some games, but here it just feel lazy. The side missions are a little better but not by much. They just allow for a little more fun. Overall if you have ever played a Ubisoft game since Far Cry 3, you've played this game. Yet some how it's worse then a game that came out 6 years before it. In addition, this game is laden with microtransactions and it is important to remember that Ubisoft not only defended employees who committed sexual assault on female employees, but also allowed said abusers "resign" with a very large sum of money and no legal action placed. The gameplay is nice, but the amount of outposts, tedious side-missions (there are fun ones also, but mostly it's a grind) and random enemies only serve to prolongate this game to a 20 h experience instead of a 10 h one. The game makes everything painstakingly repetitive, so it loses it's freshness and it becomes a grind to get resistance points very quickly.

You hide from the chopper and wait for the fire to burn out, taking enemy’s out stealthily with the bow and make it back to the building and the initial enemies have respawned. Here we go again. You eventually die.
There’s good things about the game but the over population and respawn rate of enemy’s and dangerous wildlife is ridiculous. It makes the game not fun. It’s absolutely pointless to drive anywhere. “F” this game. Not only am I just done with playing the game after 6 hours, I’m done with the series. I don’t know how people have rated it as high as they have. I played Homefront 2 longer than I could take playing this and that was hot garbage. What a waste of money.

It's not good. I could walk into a base armed with a shovel and kill 20 people just by holding and letting go of the right trigger. WOW. It honestly feels like I'm playing a cutscene. (There's also a perk where you just press a button and your character kills everyone nearby them) STEER CLEAR: if you want gameplay that is fun to master or deeply rewarding.

    I bought this mainly because

I bought this mainly because of the multiplayer and custom maps. But the core gameplay ruins much of the fun you could be having, by including instant death animations by someone jumping on your head by a meter higher in elevation, explosions being OP, one-shot headshots leaving lower fire rate weapons already at a disadvantage, etc, etc...

If you are playing with a friend sure you could have fun for maybe at most 6 hours before realizing how deep this game isn't.

    Like watching paint dry...

The story is so blah and inconceivably unbelievable (yes, it's Far Cry, but 3 was excellent and engrossing, and 4 okay), that it's hard to immerse yourself into the world. It's supposed to be this newly formed area within some state in America that is government land, yet the government/nobody is doing anything about it because they are too scared of the

You fly in, in a helicopter, at the beginning of the game, and it's all about getting out of the area to get the national guard, yet you find a helicopter within the game and can't fly it beyond the "limit" of the game area... WTF?

Anyway, gameplay mechanics are the same as usual, which are good, but being the 5th installemnt into the series, it's starting to feel very old.

8 hours in and I couldn't care less about continuing... :(

Weapon and Car Progression is locked behind microtransactions... why is that ok?
Besides that the game gets way to chaotic, it won't give you a moment to look at the scenery or landscapes. The AI might be the dumbest i've witnessed since Call of Juarez, the Cartel.

    Juego totalmente decepcionante.

Generic and predictable. It's really just another rehash of the Far Cry series that's not really remarkable enough to be interesting.

Money is important and you don't get anywhere near enough from gameplay. Serious grinding required to experience the full range of vehicles and weapons unless you want to pay for shortcuts through its insidious micro-transaction system. The game is

The game is Infested with micro-transactions and not worth buying as a result. Yes you can play it without spending extra money but it feels like your being hamstrung from the start without spending more money than you have already paid for the game. Wait until it's a fraction of the price on sale.

Further cash grab, in addition to the micro-transactions in game - Day one DLC and season pass on top of your full price game.

    3/10 for looks only...looks great, shame it's so anti-consumer.

I've started playing this game and hated my 4 hours in. You have absolutely no reason to do anything in this game except challenges for perk points. This is the worst game in the series yet. I feel nothing for any of the people in the game at all. I'd rather play Far Cry Primal. The villians in the game are ridiculous. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bland, blank, silent protagonist. Average gameplay. Average gunplay. Interesting side characters. Mildly interesting villain. Three bad endings. Either you become a mindless slave for the cult, you allow the cult to continue abusing and hurting others, or you Joseph bombs the entire state and/or country - effectively killing everyone you tried to save and undoing all the hours of gameplay spent trying to put an end to the cult. No ending allows you to "win" and kill the bastard. Expand

This fresh take on the Far Cry franchise is clearly visible content-wise, but a tad more discrete on the style. If you're not bothered by the slightly repetitive formula, you'll enjoy the many strengths of this episode.

A mostly excellent sandbox that delights with its gorgeous world, breadth of activities, and stellar shootouts. It can be a bit grindy, mind.[June 2018, p.93]

Far Cry 5 established itself as one of the best in the series, The game features some gorgeous scenery, an engaging story and the overall story is great fun and the theme is very realistic. The game mixes up the missions so it doesn't get repetitive halfway through the game. Far Cry 5 is a great entry to the series for newbies and veterans alike.
