Incredible game this was back on the Xbox 360 and now thankfully it’s got the well deserved upgrade to PS4. But there really isn’t anything great, nothing has changed at all and being a classic or remastered version it’s to be expected. Still a great game and thankful I got it free with Far Cry 5. But I’d steer clear of until the sale comes.

I havnt played far cry 3 before, and with it being released for current gen consoles, being included in the far cry 5 season pass I thought I would go back and play the ps3 version..
after hearing such great things about how this game was robbed for game of the year 2012 by releasing in December.. I was even more excited for what is supposed to be the best game in the far cry series…
And im sorry to break your hearts, but I just don’t see it..
And lets be real.. 2012 we saw the likes of dishonored, assassins creed 3, the walking dead season , lollipop chainsaw, borderlands 2, and journey… get out of here with that robbed nonsense…
Is far cry 3 the best game in the series?
If we don’t count far cry primal, it actually probably is.. that much I agree on.. though Ive never touched far cry 4…
right off the bat, my eyes needed some adjusting.. im geunuinely surprised how bad this only nearly 6 year old game now looks.. I had to get used to the old school graphics to really immerse myself into the world.. thankfully after a couple of hours my brain and eyes did adjust and the negative critiquing ends there..
Because Far Cry 3 while is insanely overrated is stil la really good game
what makes far cry 3 so great is that its so simple and linear… youre placed on a giant island is towers to climb to reveal the map.. its crawling with plants and animals to hunt so you can upgrade your gear, posts to liberate for fast travel points.. and the story is delivered with emotion and great design that we don’t get in the more modern far cry games
I much prefer this delivery style over the recent separate regions, go do things to challenge the region leader nonsense they do now, it pulls everything in and makes It feel personal..
here youl lbe doing a variety of queststhat as you could guess involves a lot of shooting, with the occasional annoying stealth missions thrown in here…
But it never feels like just busy work, I had fun through the whole campaign, and my favorite moments much like in far cry 5 were the moments where youre going through weird hallucinations…
it’s a clever way to create unrealistic levels and bring them into reality and I appreciate that..
and completing quests will reward you with xp that goes towards skill points you can throw in your skill tree
world design however is just okay, not much incentive to explore…
it’s a bunch of greens and blues.. I didn’t feel like much care went into crafting it, but works as land in between missions, and does a great job of coming to life during the main story line..
A story that was again just kind of okay, none of the characters blew me away, there are some surprised in the story.. but nothing that really drew me in or pulled me through to the end..
the pure fun of the gameplay, the shooting, the tower climbing, the hunting.. that’s what kept me going..
there is also co op maps and online multiplayer here but beign a 6 year old game as you would guess theres not many people still playing and there isn’t much to say about it.. its just one of those tacked on multiplayer modes that every AAA ps3 game had
Ultimately I enjoyed Far Cry 3
Its not as great as everyone remembers it being.. it doesn’t hold up..
    but its still decently fun
    I give far cry 3
    a 7.5/10

Don't get me wrong I am a fan of these Remastered games that give me a reason to play through the game again, but it seems that Far Cry 3: Classic Edition is just lacking. Sure it plays the same which is fine. Far Cry 3 is a fun experience and I wouldn't want them to change it. Funny enough though the game feels a bit old in comparison to later Far Cry games. Yet again this isn't a knock against the game at hand, yet it is noticeable while playing.
What my actual gripe with the game is the graphics. They do look better than the PS3 version, but not because Ubisoft went in and worked on it. They look better because it is on a more powerful machine. That is an issue with me when companies do this re-release of a game and do absolutely nothing to make it look better. The best examples of what I want are Shadow of the Colossus looks and plays a lot better than the PS3 version. Or Halo 2 on the Master Chief collection looks amazing; it still plays the same, but they made that game worthy of the new generation.
Overall Far Cry 3; Classic Edition isn't a bad thing to exist in fact I enjoyed going back through playing the game, and experiencing the story that I mostly forgot over time. It just isn't worth more than $10 in my book. If you bought the Gold Edition of Far Cry 5 then you already own it, and you should play that. If you didn't wait for a sale that is the only way this is worth your time. I definitely say BARGAIN BIN this game.

I was expecting a checklist open world game which I have found stale in recent years and while that was exactly what I got, it's the execution that impressed and surprised me. The story is corny but enjoyable with zany characters like hurk and the excellent Vaas who may or may not know the definition of insanity. The main character of Jason is portrayed laughably at times but is far better than having a completely blank slate character. The open world and gameplay loop are the main attraction here however. There are lots of activities and collectibles sprinkled everywhere. The brilliance is that everything you do rewards you in some way. radio towers unlock portions of the map, guardposts act as fast travel points once you clear them and side quests/collectibles reward you with exp that you can spend on worthwhile upgrades in the skilltrees. Hunting the wildlife will also provide you with equipment upgrades like an extra holster or larger wallet and the animals won't hesitate to fight back so be careful. The gunplay while a bit finicky is solid enough to make you feel like a badass as you tear through enemies. Some of the camps have animals trapped that you can set loose some have watchtowers that you can commandeer, these scenarios along with the large arsenal of weapons creates a very fun sandbox to play with. The story missions are also varied and some stand out missions in the middle and the end elevate the campaign and keep you engaged throughout. In conclusion my ferrary through the rook islands was a great romp filled with crazy moment after crazy moment and I can't wait to give the rest of the series a go Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I did not play Far Cry 3 in 2021 as a remaster but as a new full experience since I missed it in 2012, so I can't tell how good it is solely as a remaster, but rather what this video game is in its entirety, looking both at the past and at the present.

The game plot's presentation and opening keep the player nailed in a breathless initial sequence: right from the start, the plot sets the game perfectly for what will be a daring adventure. From there on, most of the plot keeps quality constant and is very well written in the dialogues, the characters are just as well written and of course, yes, Vaas Montenegro stands out among them. There are some memorable moments, such as burning cannabis plantations with a flamethrower to the tune of Damian Marley. It's complex to understand Far Cry 3 plot's nuances. The jungle in which Jason Brody is abruptly thrown does not replace the civilised world in his mind; it does not make him "rediscover himself". On the contrary, it is superimposed on a world that was already there before and which cannot go away and generates in him a trauma, a short circuit, a contradiction. Soon, for Jason, killing Vaas for revenge becomes more important than escaping Rook Islands, being manipulated by Citra; which leads me to wonder: who really "screwed up" Vaas' brain? Who really is "screwing up" Jason's brain? How right Vaas is in telling Jason "You are me and I am you"? Jason's traumatic hallucinations, at least for me, questioned whether the whole adventure was true or just a madness, a schizophrenic dream, until almost the end of the game.

It will be up to the player (in an ending which shouldn't be "a choice") to decide if Jason has been able to grow, to learn something out of this brutal adventure or if "the jungle took him". As shocking as "the evil ending" can be, it simply does not leave anything else than the shock: it's just an end in itself. Nor Jason nor the player will get anything from it.

Far Cry 3's gameplay has been, to some extent, revolutionary and impacted open world games even outside of FPSs. In Far Cry 3 there's shooting weapons and shooting works pretty well, there's a good variety of weapons of many types from short-medium to long range. There is also a wide range of land and sea vehicles and the driving system works just fine. It's the first Far Cry in which stealth plays an important role and the mechanic is, perhaps surprisingly, quite well done. It's also the first Far Cry in which there are three skill trees with different kind of skills with which to grow the player character, by obtaining XPs by killing enemies and completing quests. Both did set important precedents for later Far Cry games. Primary and side quests are carried out in an open world scenario. But, how do you make an open world shooter interesting? Sure, you can create fascinating environments, captivating side quests, but what else can you offer while the character simply walks around in any point of the map? Hunting, for example. Hunt a wild animal (there's wide range of them), sell meat and skin or feathers, or use them to upgrade an item, like a storage bag. Collect wild plant leaf extracts, use them to create antidotes, drugs, first aid treatment. All of this is within reach of the player, so as to potentially keep the it busy at all times. It also creates an economy in the game, a way to buy weapons and ammunition. If stuff is needed, search, hunt, sell and earn. An approach actually already elaborated by Red Dead Redemption, but in Far Cry 3 more extended and improved. Besides all this, sub-secondary activities, such as clearing enemy outposts and recovering information (collectables, among many others) or completing timed deliveries on ATVs or bounty hunting. In short, it is both quantity and quality in Far Cry 3 that make the difference in keeping the player engaged.

There is a "but". The danger of boredom is always around the corner and, despite quantity and quality, even Far Cry 3 can be repetitive. Also, the game's damage from falling is way too high, half the times enough for a instant death, which can be annoying considering the steep terrains and high grounds which Rook Islands open world map naturally lead the player to walk.

Far Cry 3 is nearly 10 years old but still a good-looking game. Dunia Engine has a nice rendering, especially in the environment visuals; Classic Edition improvements boost visuals, still being a mere remastered: 1080p resolution and little more. Lack of 60 frames per second is a bit disappointing, considering it's a old-gen game. The soundtrack, audio editing and voice acting are of great quality.

Far Cry 3 has been an important video game of the last decade which still resonates to this day. For its series it has been a landmark watershed. The game has aged well and is so outreaching that it's recommended for everyone, to experience a video game adventure with intense plot and gameplay.

Far Cry 3 still offers damn good time, and the Classic Edition is a great way to revisit Ubisoft’s influential classic or dive into it with fresh eyes. The tried-and-tested formula has advanced in recent years, leaving some aspects of Far Cry 3 to feel aged and inconsiderate, which could be too high a hurdle for newcomers to overcome.

This is a very straightforward port of Far Cry 3, a game loved and loathed in equal measure. The Classic Edition is a great way for newcomers to experience one of the best games in the series, despite some clunky controls. Many people will have made up their mind about Jason's journey years ago, but on its own merit, this is a competent re-release of a fun, if a little dated, open world shooter.
