Unfortunately didn't age well - doesn't help that it was barely touched, it's more of a port. Motion blur sucks and you can't turn it off. Original in 2012 was 9/10.

I havnt played far cry 3 before, and with it being released for current gen consoles, being included in the far cry 5 season pass I thought I would go back and play the ps3 version..
after hearing such great things about how this game was robbed for game of the year 2012 by releasing in December.. I was even more excited for what is supposed to be the best game in the far cry series…
And im sorry to break your hearts, but I just don’t see it..
And lets be real.. 2012 we saw the likes of dishonored, assassins creed 3, the walking dead season , lollipop chainsaw, borderlands 2, and journey… get out of here with that robbed nonsense…
Is far cry 3 the best game in the series?
If we don’t count far cry primal, it actually probably is.. that much I agree on.. though Ive never touched far cry 4…
right off the bat, my eyes needed some adjusting.. im geunuinely surprised how bad this only nearly 6 year old game now looks.. I had to get used to the old school graphics to really immerse myself into the world.. thankfully after a couple of hours my brain and eyes did adjust and the negative critiquing ends there..
Because Far Cry 3 while is insanely overrated is stil la really good game
what makes far cry 3 so great is that its so simple and linear… youre placed on a giant island is towers to climb to reveal the map.. its crawling with plants and animals to hunt so you can upgrade your gear, posts to liberate for fast travel points.. and the story is delivered with emotion and great design that we don’t get in the more modern far cry games
I much prefer this delivery style over the recent separate regions, go do things to challenge the region leader nonsense they do now, it pulls everything in and makes It feel personal..
here youl lbe doing a variety of queststhat as you could guess involves a lot of shooting, with the occasional annoying stealth missions thrown in here…
But it never feels like just busy work, I had fun through the whole campaign, and my favorite moments much like in far cry 5 were the moments where youre going through weird hallucinations…
it’s a clever way to create unrealistic levels and bring them into reality and I appreciate that..
and completing quests will reward you with xp that goes towards skill points you can throw in your skill tree
world design however is just okay, not much incentive to explore…
it’s a bunch of greens and blues.. I didn’t feel like much care went into crafting it, but works as land in between missions, and does a great job of coming to life during the main story line..
A story that was again just kind of okay, none of the characters blew me away, there are some surprised in the story.. but nothing that really drew me in or pulled me through to the end..
the pure fun of the gameplay, the shooting, the tower climbing, the hunting.. that’s what kept me going..
there is also co op maps and online multiplayer here but beign a 6 year old game as you would guess theres not many people still playing and there isn’t much to say about it.. its just one of those tacked on multiplayer modes that every AAA ps3 game had
Ultimately I enjoyed Far Cry 3
Its not as great as everyone remembers it being.. it doesn’t hold up..
    but its still decently fun
    I give far cry 3
    a 7.5/10

Far Cry 3 is back! Yes the game that made Ubisoft care about the Far Cry series again is on the PS4 and Xbox One has been re-released, and it looks exactly the same. This will probably be a shorter review because it is just the exact same game that we have already played. Don't get me wrong I am a fan of these Remastered games that give me a reason to play through the game again, but it seems that Far Cry 3: Classic Edition is just lacking. Sure it plays the same which is fine. Far Cry 3 is a fun experience and I wouldn't want them to change it. Funny enough though the game feels a bit old in comparison to later Far Cry games. Yet again this isn't a knock against the game at hand, yet it is noticeable while playing.
What my actual gripe with the game is the graphics. They do look better than the PS3 version, but not because Ubisoft went in and worked on it. They look better because it is on a more powerful machine. That is an issue with me when companies do this re-release of a game and do absolutely nothing to make it look better. The best examples of what I want are Shadow of the Colossus looks and plays a lot better than the PS3 version. Or Halo 2 on the Master Chief collection looks amazing; it still plays the same, but they made that game worthy of the new generation.
Overall Far Cry 3; Classic Edition isn't a bad thing to exist in fact I enjoyed going back through playing the game, and experiencing the story that I mostly forgot over time. It just isn't worth more than $10 in my book. If you bought the Gold Edition of Far Cry 5 then you already own it, and you should play that. If you didn't wait for a sale that is the only way this is worth your time. I definitely say BARGAIN BIN this game.

This upscaled port of Far Cry 3 includes the DLC. However, it is missing the co-op mode, map editor and competitive multiplayer. I'll start by mentioning that I didn't play this on the previous generation so it was my first exposure to Far Cry 3 - and any Far Cry game. I am glad I picked this up as it was a cheap and enjoyable single player experience. I am glad I picked this up as it was a cheap and enjoyable single player experience. It holds true to the typical Ubisoft open world map mechanic - you have to climb towers to expose map areas and capture bases to secure territory from enemies. This game mechanic is fun but there have obviously been improvements upon it since 2012 when it was originally released.

The game play felt a little dated - the cover system was non-existent and falling from any decent height was a death sentence. On top of that up until the game was patched (halfway through my play through) the aiming and driving (in particular) were horrible. Once this was fixed it made my overall experience much better.

The story was enjoyable. Nothing to take seriously - but a somewhat relatable situation where your average Joe gets thrown into a nightmare scenario where he has to rescue his friends. I enjoyed the over the top acting and dialog.

There is enough here to warrant my further exploration into the series - especially considering this was a 6 year old game. I look forward to going back and getting a platinum trophy and playing the other games.

All I remember from playing Far Cry 3 back in 2013 was that I liked it quite a bit, nothing amazing, but a game I have fond memories of. This remaster on the other hand... hmmm.

Starting off with what the remaster made better... well i couldn't tell you, there is a slight graphical upgrade but with it come absurd bugs, fps drops, pop-ins, glitches, missmatching audio and a few game-breaking bugs which I don't remember being in the original game. The driving and weapon controls feel incredibly unresponsive at times, to the point where I would try changing a gun 4 times before actually succeeding or essentially having to guess where my car is gonna go regardless of where I'm forcing it to go. There's also annoying and inconsistent fall damage that makes no sense and makes free roam traversal a pain in the ass.

So the remaster fails in every way at being a remaster, breaking what wasn't broken and fixing nothing really. At least the core game it tries to ruin is quite good - sure the story isn't grounbreaking and people seem to forget that Vaas is in the game for less than 15 mins and the real bad guy is generic dark skin drug guy #7, but it's good enough. When it works it feels good to play.

My rating for the OG FC3 - 7.5, my rating for the remaster - 2.5. That makes a total rating of 5/10.

I absolutely love Farcry 3 since it released on ps3. So i was so happy when it was announced on ps4 with updated graphics and gameplay. Although it does look better (not by a large margin) it seems to feel really clunky and awked when trying to aim. I would have much preferred if the went down the route of a full remaster. But did love playing this game again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far Cry 3 is a game that evokes a mixed bag of emotions. Its quality varies depending on the section of the game being played.

The first two-thirds of the game was a 5/10 rating.
    - The missions with Buck lack excitement, and his character feels exaggerated and uninteresting.
    - Vaas comes across as a cliché insane jungle dweller whose only appeal lies in his witty lines that entice kids to create sigma edits of him. Vaas also come across as incompetent, he fails to kill Jason multiple times.
    - The gameplay loop in this section was just boring, would not recommend it.

However, the game improves for the last third to a 7/10, but it's too little too late.
    - The setpieces and main missions becoming more engaging and intense.
    - The stakes are higher, with the main character's younger brother being captured and then there is this sense of urgency to rescue Jason's friends.
    - The introduction of Sam was a good choice for the cast, his banter and camaraderie with Jason was welcome.
    - Hoyt and his goons were more compelling than Vaas, they posed a more significant threat to the player.

    Problems prevailing in both sections:
    - Pop-in issues and frame rate problems make the game look unattractive, and its graphics fail to impress.
    - QTEs for bosses detracts from the experience.
    - Side quests were boring
    - Outposts and Beacons were tedious. Clear waste of the player's time.
    - Travelling across the map is a chore, especially since the areas look homogenous and the cars drive like they are on ice.
    - The voice acting and sound engineering both fall short, with most performances being horrible, and the voices sounding as if they were recorded through a low-quality microphone.
    - Vaas failed to become the great villain that the game had built him up to be. The expectation was that he would rival the likes of Handsome Jack, but the reality fell short.
    - Far Cry 3 comes across as a poor man's Borderlands or a Btec of Horizon Zero Dawn when it comes to hunting and resource management.

it's hard to recommend Far Cry 3. If this is the best that the franchise offers, I'm glad I have no plans to play any other games from the series.

An open world game which gives you the opportunity to play it in your own way. Full gun-blazing, stealth or mix of both eather supported. It has a decent story. The main questline is fun. The sidequests are a bit repetitive but after all it is a Ubisoft game. In the classic edition I am also noticed some issues with the controller deadzone, but it was tolerable.

Far Cry 3 was a game changer for the series when it was first released in 2012. Ubisoft was able to set a new bar for the Open-World genre with plenty of things to do. The remastered port still plays okay but in terms of graphics it is a little bit of an eye-sore.

Story is a bit far-fetched when you actually sit down to think about it; an 18 year old party boy with zero military

Story is a bit far-fetched when you actually sit down to think about it; an 18 year old party boy with zero military experience turned into a master killer / assassin overnight that would rival John Wick. Supporting characters within the game have very fun and memorable personalities.

Gameplay still holds up for sure in terms of flexibility. Being given the ability to tackle a situation however you see fit is always a welcome edition to an open world game.

For new-comers this game will be a must-play. For returning players there's really no point in experiencing this again.

Far Cry 3 still offers damn good time, and the Classic Edition is a great way to revisit Ubisoft’s influential classic or dive into it with fresh eyes. The tried-and-tested formula has advanced in recent years, leaving some aspects of Far Cry 3 to feel aged and inconsiderate, which could be too high a hurdle for newcomers to overcome.

This is a very straightforward port of Far Cry 3, a game loved and loathed in equal measure. The Classic Edition is a great way for newcomers to experience one of the best games in the series, despite some clunky controls. Many people will have made up their mind about Jason's journey years ago, but on its own merit, this is a competent re-release of a fun, if a little dated, open world shooter.
