Far Cry 3 fell far short of my expectations, leaving me sorely disappointed. The storyline and characters were painfully lackluster, making little sense and failing to engage me. Despite the promise of stealth gameplay, the game often steers you towards a Rambo-style approach in certain missions. The touted freedom and exploration were underwhelming; I tried to parachute into "The Compound" but found myself repelled by an invisible forcefield when attempting to fly over the wall. Moreover, the constant gameover screens for straying just a few meters from the mission waypoint seriously disrupted my immersion. The only thing i found to be on the positive side was the gunplay. Overall, it was a frustrating letdown that failed to reach its potential.

A few years ago when I played Far Cry 3 I really enjoyed it. Vaas is a brilliant villain, which unfortunately I can't say about Hoyt. Jason is an interesting main character and the other characters are great too. The arsenal of weapons is nice, although I might appreciate a little more. The map is nicely designed and the same applies to discovering new parts of the map, as is usual with Ubisoft by climbing the towers. Climbing the towers is a walk in the park in the beginning, but gradually it becomes quite depressing and it depends on how broken the given tower is. The open world is amazing... You can do almost anything. Do you just want to kill Vaas' pirates? Not a problem. Do you just want to hunt wild game for fun? As you wish. Do you want to focus only on the story campaign? you can. The story here is for me the best of all Far Cry games, if not even of all Ubisoft titles. You can understand Jason's motivations for why he does all this and why he murders all those pirates. The ending of the game is great and the possibility to have a decision about how the whole story ends is also a pretty nice icing on the cake. So Michal, are you trying to tell me that the game is completely flawless and everyone should play it? Like everyone should play it, but there aren't many flawless games. I know this will sound a bit like a skill issue, but I found the game unnecessarily demanding in some parts. Yes, I played on the third difficulty, but that doesn't mean that I can spend an hour or more on one mission. The main villain, Hoyt, is just so MEH. He basically has no charisma except for the last 3 story quests. I still really enjoyed the game and I stand behind the fact that it is the best game in the series Expand

Far Cry 3 for its time was a great open world game. Subsequently, the gaming landscape became full of the typical things you see in these games so playing this again, you may find you remembered it better.

With that being said Far Cry 3 is still a must play even in 2023.

For me the best Far Cry to date, everything in general in the game is good technically it is not the most advanced but we are talking about a Remake but compared to more recent Far Cry without a doubt the best so far and the villain Vaas of the game is by far the best best of the series and one of my favorite villains

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far Cry 3 is a game that evokes a mixed bag of emotions. Its quality varies depending on the section of the game being played.

The first two-thirds of the game was a 5/10 rating.
    - The missions with Buck lack excitement, and his character feels exaggerated and uninteresting.
    - Vaas comes across as a cliché insane jungle dweller whose only appeal lies in his witty lines that entice kids to create sigma edits of him. Vaas also come across as incompetent, he fails to kill Jason multiple times.
    - The gameplay loop in this section was just boring, would not recommend it.

However, the game improves for the last third to a 7/10, but it's too little too late.
    - The setpieces and main missions becoming more engaging and intense.
    - The stakes are higher, with the main character's younger brother being captured and then there is this sense of urgency to rescue Jason's friends.
    - The introduction of Sam was a good choice for the cast, his banter and camaraderie with Jason was welcome.
    - Hoyt and his goons were more compelling than Vaas, they posed a more significant threat to the player.

    Problems prevailing in both sections:
    - Pop-in issues and frame rate problems make the game look unattractive, and its graphics fail to impress.
    - QTEs for bosses detracts from the experience.
    - Side quests were boring
    - Outposts and Beacons were tedious. Clear waste of the player's time.
    - Travelling across the map is a chore, especially since the areas look homogenous and the cars drive like they are on ice.
    - The voice acting and sound engineering both fall short, with most performances being horrible, and the voices sounding as if they were recorded through a low-quality microphone.
    - Vaas failed to become the great villain that the game had built him up to be. The expectation was that he would rival the likes of Handsome Jack, but the reality fell short.
    - Far Cry 3 comes across as a poor man's Borderlands or a Btec of Horizon Zero Dawn when it comes to hunting and resource management.

it's hard to recommend Far Cry 3. If this is the best that the franchise offers, I'm glad I have no plans to play any other games from the series.

Terrible port. The input lag, motion blur, and the unoptimized framerate on the ps5 makes the game unplayable. I am sad that I spent money thinking I would experience a classic. I shut it off after an hour. Aiming is impossible, the guns shoot like a money printer, aiming feels terrible, and the framerate makes it impossible to enjoy.

    It's a damn shame.

Far Cry 3 was a game changer for the series when it was first released in 2012. Ubisoft was able to set a new bar for the Open-World genre with plenty of things to do. The remastered port still plays okay but in terms of graphics it is a little bit of an eye-sore.

Story is a bit far-fetched when you actually sit down to think about it; an 18 year old party boy with zero military experience turned into a master killer / assassin overnight that would rival John Wick. Supporting characters within the game have very fun and memorable personalities.

Gameplay still holds up for sure in terms of flexibility. Being given the ability to tackle a situation however you see fit is always a welcome edition to an open world game.

For new-comers this game will be a must-play. For returning players there's really no point in experiencing this again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s a amazing game, one that inspired the open worlds of today. The world is ruthless and fun. But the story is the best part, the story of Jason Brody is one that the games of today have failed to live up to. His descent into insanity is disturbing and it’s this that makes it so great, the risk it took, something like nothing else has done. And of course I can’t leave Vaas out. He’s regarded as one of the best video game villains and for good reason too. Vaas is crazy, yet still has this charm to him and it’s this combination which makes him so likable. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I did not play Far Cry 3 in 2021 as a remaster but as a new full experience since I missed it in 2012, so I can't tell how good it is solely as a remaster, but rather what this video game is in its entirety, looking both at the past and at the present.

The game plot's presentation and opening keep the player nailed in a breathless initial sequence: right from the start, the plot sets the game perfectly for what will be a daring adventure. From there on, most of the plot keeps quality constant and is very well written in the dialogues, the characters are just as well written and of course, yes, Vaas Montenegro stands out among them. There are some memorable moments, such as burning cannabis plantations with a flamethrower to the tune of Damian Marley. It's complex to understand Far Cry 3 plot's nuances. The jungle in which Jason Brody is abruptly thrown does not replace the civilised world in his mind; it does not make him "rediscover himself". On the contrary, it is superimposed on a world that was already there before and which cannot go away and generates in him a trauma, a short circuit, a contradiction. Soon, for Jason, killing Vaas for revenge becomes more important than escaping Rook Islands, being manipulated by Citra; which leads me to wonder: who really "screwed up" Vaas' brain? Who really is "screwing up" Jason's brain? How right Vaas is in telling Jason "You are me and I am you"? Jason's traumatic hallucinations, at least for me, questioned whether the whole adventure was true or just a madness, a schizophrenic dream, until almost the end of the game.

It will be up to the player (in an ending which shouldn't be "a choice") to decide if Jason has been able to grow, to learn something out of this brutal adventure or if "the jungle took him". As shocking as "the evil ending" can be, it simply does not leave anything else than the shock: it's just an end in itself. Nor Jason nor the player will get anything from it.

Far Cry 3's gameplay has been, to some extent, revolutionary and impacted open world games even outside of FPSs. In Far Cry 3 there's shooting weapons and shooting works pretty well, there's a good variety of weapons of many types from short-medium to long range. There is also a wide range of land and sea vehicles and the driving system works just fine. It's the first Far Cry in which stealth plays an important role and the mechanic is, perhaps surprisingly, quite well done. It's also the first Far Cry in which there are three skill trees with different kind of skills with which to grow the player character, by obtaining XPs by killing enemies and completing quests. Both did set important precedents for later Far Cry games. Primary and side quests are carried out in an open world scenario. But, how do you make an open world shooter interesting? Sure, you can create fascinating environments, captivating side quests, but what else can you offer while the character simply walks around in any point of the map? Hunting, for example. Hunt a wild animal (there's wide range of them), sell meat and skin or feathers, or use them to upgrade an item, like a storage bag. Collect wild plant leaf extracts, use them to create antidotes, drugs, first aid treatment. All of this is within reach of the player, so as to potentially keep the it busy at all times. It also creates an economy in the game, a way to buy weapons and ammunition. If stuff is needed, search, hunt, sell and earn. An approach actually already elaborated by Red Dead Redemption, but in Far Cry 3 more extended and improved. Besides all this, sub-secondary activities, such as clearing enemy outposts and recovering information (collectables, among many others) or completing timed deliveries on ATVs or bounty hunting. In short, it is both quantity and quality in Far Cry 3 that make the difference in keeping the player engaged.

There is a "but". The danger of boredom is always around the corner and, despite quantity and quality, even Far Cry 3 can be repetitive. Also, the game's damage from falling is way too high, half the times enough for a instant death, which can be annoying considering the steep terrains and high grounds which Rook Islands open world map naturally lead the player to walk.

Far Cry 3 is nearly 10 years old but still a good-looking game. Dunia Engine has a nice rendering, especially in the environment visuals; Classic Edition improvements boost visuals, still being a mere remastered: 1080p resolution and little more. Lack of 60 frames per second is a bit disappointing, considering it's a old-gen game. The soundtrack, audio editing and voice acting are of great quality.

Far Cry 3 has been an important video game of the last decade which still resonates to this day. For its series it has been a landmark watershed. The game has aged well and is so outreaching that it's recommended for everyone, to experience a video game adventure with intense plot and gameplay.

Far Cry 3 still offers damn good time, and the Classic Edition is a great way to revisit Ubisoft’s influential classic or dive into it with fresh eyes. The tried-and-tested formula has advanced in recent years, leaving some aspects of Far Cry 3 to feel aged and inconsiderate, which could be too high a hurdle for newcomers to overcome.

This is a very straightforward port of Far Cry 3, a game loved and loathed in equal measure. The Classic Edition is a great way for newcomers to experience one of the best games in the series, despite some clunky controls. Many people will have made up their mind about Jason's journey years ago, but on its own merit, this is a competent re-release of a fun, if a little dated, open world shooter.
