I'm a huge Fallout fan but when the game crashes, is super slow at points and out of the blue your entire camp with turrets, generators etc all disappear forever it puts you off playing and wish you didn't pay the full price for the game.

Oh also Bethesda now say you can't get a refund, so stuck with a poorly written/developed game.

It's not made for Fallout fans because it got rid of all of the best features from past Fallout games. it's not made for survival fans because the survival mechanics are beyond gimped. Who exactly was this made for? Failout 76 does absolutely nothing right. No wonder it was discounted 50% less than a week after release. Way to screw your fanbase Bethesda!

Its as if you need to ask permission to pvp against someone. Horrible. I probably wont play more than a few hours more (already level 20) because I'm getting tired of reading notes and listening to holotapes. What a waste of $60. The premise of Fallout 76 has several issues such as the removal of any human npc’s. This creative decision leaves the world feeling empty, lifeless and uninteresting. This game also focuses on areas of the fallout franchise that were not fan favorites (shooting, looting and fetch quests) in a blatant attempt for Bethesda and, by extension, Zenimax to get a piece of the ‘games as a service’ pie and to provide the company with a reliable source of finance for years to come, through the overpriced ‘Atom Shop’. Furthermore, the games horrendous performance on anything that isn’t an Xbox One X, the platform this game was clearly built for if the fact that the first gameplay trailer was announced at the Microsoft’s E3 conference, hampers any real enjoyment possible in this game. Overall this Fallout 76 is a definite avoid until it goes on sale for the price the game actually is worth ($30). Expand

Huge mistake; will never happen again. This game simply should not have, under any circumstances, been released in it's present state. Graphics that look like a PS2 game coupled with clunky mechanics, both of which are a result of a 10? 15? 20 year old engine probably held together by duct tape at this point & which must be retired. Some reviewers have reported framerate drops as low as 30 fps when areas get busy - 15 fps or less is more accurate. Server disconnects regularly. Lack of NPCs makes the game feel hollow & unfinished; quests are boring & repetitive. Listening to Holotapes non-stop wears thin very quickly. Enemy AI (if you can even call it that) is a joke - enemies either stand still while staring at you or they run straight at you. Occasionally some glitch & get trapped in a wall or the ground or a tree. As for running into other players, this has to be the only online multiplayer game where PVP & multiplayer aspects are virtually non-existent. Crossed paths with a couple other players who just threw an emote & ran by. One person offered stimpaks. And since there is nowhere near enough content or immersion to keep playing solo, the game quickly becomes a $60 scavenger hunt simulator. Bottom line is there is nothing redeeming about this game. It is most certainly not a AAA game & is not worth more than $10; there simply are no more excuses to be made for Bethesda releasing half-finished garbage like this. If this is seriously the best Bethesda can do in 2018 then, very sad to say, it may be time to either have some people step aside or just stop making games. Expand

"Hey bro... what about Fallout... but EVERYONE IS REAL?!?! whooaaa" It's a fun thing to imagine and joke around about... but so very incredibly terrible in reality. Without NPCs, this game is boring and lifeless. There are quests, sure, but there is no life or soul in them. You're either interacting with dead bodies, robots, or notes written by someone who has already left the area. I was hoping Bethesda could pull off this whole "No NPC" idea, but after only 2 hours in, I realized that they had failed miserably. Each human player that I've encountered in the game (which have actually been few and far between) have been mutes and seemed to have no desire in communication or interaction with other players. In a boring world with nothing to do, why would I build a base? So that I can do nothing in that base? What motivation would I have to launch a nuke at fellow players? In a world filled to the brim with nothing, what incentive do I have to succeed with these awful meaningless quests? I can already do nothing in the real-world without spending money on a game to do more nothing in. I feel like I've completely wasted my money and I supremely regret pre-ordering this game. The current scores for Fallout 76 are between 20 and 30% by users. This is one of those games where the score is spot on. In its current stage and with its lack of content it is definitely a 2 out of 10 game. The 2 is there just for the map and slight tie in to previous fallout games. It's certainly not enjoyable or has any replay value.

There is a possibility that the game could become better with new content, NPCs that deliver a plot to this dead and barren sandbox. If they fix the bugs and add some balancing then it might also be good for PvE. This game engine can't do PvP. It's too old and too broken to jury rig in any way to make this an enjoyable PvP experience.

And as for the price? It's an absolute insult charging fans $60 for a cut down version of Fallout 4. This is a dlc at best and the price should reflect it. So avoid wasting your money. If it appears as a $10 sale item then I might recommend it just for the Fallout lore. But I'm sure modders could actually add a lot of this into a overhaul mod for Fallout 4 given enough time.

Hopefully Bethesda is working on adding some degree of settlements or recruit-able NPCs or something to make this a more interactive world. The crafting and building aspects are great, and remain my most fond memories of Fallout 4; and I'm sure that they will be releasing patches at time goes on to build larger and more relevant homesteads. But as long as there is such a low limit to concurrent players, the inability to select a specific server, and lack of NPCs; it remains just a poorly designed single player experience.

I wanted to love this game. I really did. I've been a massive Bethesda fan since Morrowind. I once gifted an ex of mine an overly-expensive Amulet of Mara replica. That should at least put some cred to my love for the studio.

But the fact of the matter is, this game needed another six to eight months of solid development before release. Every Bethesda game has been buggy, the bugs add some character to the games. But this is entire quest lines that can't be completed, quest items repeatedly spawning inside of cliffs, underground, or inside of buildings that don't have entrances. Textures don't render, and gigabytes upon gigabytes of patches don't even come close to scratching the surface of the problem.

I generally have a policy against pre-ordering games, but Bethesda is a studio that's built up such reputation for me that I was willing to bypass it - but never again. This is a combination of laziness and greed. Laziness to build something so unfinished and release it - and greed for trying to rush it so much to capitalize on the Black Friday / Christmas holiday season.

Someone said "Hey, we know the game isn't finished, but if we don't drop it now, we won't make money. We can deal with 60% of our content being disfunctional or completely broken.". That's the real slap in the face here.

Every mmo has human npcs/enemies and not a single person was ever confused. The real reasoning was simple, to save a few dollars to hack out this turd and add the fallout name. Im not surprised that Fallout 76 got a 50% discount already after only being out for a week. At this rate it will become free to play which is quite disappointing. However, that fun is buried under an almost insurmountable mountain of glitches, bugs, and technical problems. The intriguing stories and quirky characters that gave the Fallout franchise its distinct character and draw are nowhere to be found. Instead, you can find countless references to the work that talented writers and designers made in past entries to the series. Fallout 4 began a trend toward emphasizing the style and aesthetics of Fallout over its substance and writing. Fallout 76 takes this shift to new levels, by stripping away the core gameplay to encourage gameplay loops revolving around a base building mechanic that provides no benefit, sense of progress, or satisfaction to the player. There seems to be be very little thought towards progression at all in this game, as many of the main quests are bugged and unable to be completed. End game content is barely differentiated from early game content, which only reinforces that the game gives little incentive to reach the end game.

Instead, the game seems to be designed to provide a convenient way to spend $5 of your hard earned money to buy one of seven digital outfits from the atomic shop for your soulless avatar to show off to a soulless world void of any functional or worthwhile gameplay. Most of the content of the game is locked behind a poorly designed game economy and difficult to discover plans and schematics. You can modify weapons/amor you find, but to craft them you must find plans that are given out randomly as quest rewards or from in-game vendors with woefully small inventories. The game seems like it was designed to encourage microtransactions, but at the last moment was changed to help reduce some of the backlash the game deserves entirely to receive.

My final thoughts are that it is disgusting that this game was released in this dysfunctional and incomplete state. Baffling design choices plague the game, showing an unwillingness of Bethesds Game Studios to commit to anything more than a ground level, proof-of-concept for a monetzation scheme. I have spent 100 hours in this game, and the longer I play, the more I find wrong with it. I want to like this game, but there is just too much wrong or missing from it for it to be considered a $60, AAA release. I rate it 0 out of 10 because it's not even a complete game. It is a heartbreaking waste of time.

I see a lot of phony reviews both positive and negative, so I'm gonna give my best shot at a fair objective review.

Lets start with the limited positives:
    - Huge map (this probably the only impressive part of the game)
    - decent survival mechanics
They won't amaze you, but they are fairly deep while not being too obnoxious
    - Group Objectives are fairly well done
Perhaps the only actual content worth playing, sadly they are usually fairly tough to complete solo meaning solo players completely miss out on the only content worth playing.
    - Nice environments
A few places on the map are really nice.

    Negatives:
    - No reason to do anything (really, there is just no point)
    - Holotapes, Holotapes, and did I mention...Holotapes
Whoever thought tape recordings were an adequate replacement for NPCs should be fired. Its soulless and tiresome. It defeats the point in tracking down Suzie when you know all that is gonna be there is her corpse with a tape next to it.
    - Servers have very few players on them
For a game that focuses on multiplayer there are very few multiplayer interactions. Largely because there are only like 3-5 players on a server at the same time and often their levels aren't even close so they have no reason to play together
    - Slow progression
And I mean painfully slow, It definitely feels slower than single player Fallouts. Its clear that rather than give us actual content, Bethesda decided to drag what little content there is out as much as possible. But its not fun, and It makes it nearly impossible to catch up to your higher level friends; which kills the multiplayer angle. Either they are stuck in low level areas not having fun, or you get dragged into high level areas where you still don't level very fast and struggle constantly.
    - Laggy servers
    - Tons of bugs
    - Frame rate drops constantly, and often for no reason; sometimes down to an absolute crawl.
I think you get better frame rates watching a flipbook set in motion than this game.
    - V.A.T.S
Idk why they bothered trying to keep it, might as well have just removed it for this installment. Its ultimately fairly useless in anything except pvp.
    -PvP
Should be a positive, but its executed so poorly its relegated to the negatives. For those that don't know, both players have to to consent to pvp via shooting each other once but the player who fires first is at an extreme disadvantage. From what I can tell, nobody even bothers trying to pvp because there are no rewards or incentives and its not even competitively fair. Aside from that one guy who is level 40 trying to goad level 5s into pvping with him.

    Conclusion:
Fallout 76 does a couple of things right and a whole lot of things wrong. While there are certainly some nice environments and moments you can enjoy; most of the time they are ruined by lag, bugs, or the overwhelming feelings of pointlessness. Its a multiplayer game that you spend most of your time alone and lonely in without any writing or story driven narrative to follow to motivate you to progress. I'm honestly not sure who enjoys this game, but I'm guessing not many people do. Its not a good single player experience, its not a good co-op experience, its not a good pvp experience. Its just a game that tries to do everything and excels at nothing.

I am giving it a 3/10 because it does have a few things that can be appreciated and I feel somewhat generous at that score.

    5: average/mediocre/playable
    4: bad
    3: very bad
    2: terrible
    1: unacceptable/unplayable
    0: malware

    Stability/Bugs:
Fallout 76 is full of bugs that affect your gameplay.
Enemies just spawn around you, teleport around, move at ridiculous speeds, ...
Players are being severely punished for unstable servers.
The game's networking system allegedly opens the floodgates for cheaters and hackers and is therefore potentially harming.

    The Story:
There is no proper story, human NPCs are completely missing without explanation.
    The story contradicts the plot.
The start of the game is uninspired and has no logic at all.
The most common enemy, the scorched, have a very contradictory backstory.

    Gameplay Design:
When starting the game, it sometimes spawns you in the middle of a nuclear explosion, surrounded by enemies, in the middle of an irradiated river or in other problematic positions.
It also very often just removes your house from the game, apparently because "something" was in the same spot on that particular server.
You can't place buildings where they were before, because placement by building parts and placement by blueprint have different placement constraints.
In certain areas enemies just respawn within seconds.
Sometimes enemies' corpses just disappear within seconds before anyone can loot them, despite the game having a mechanic that preserves corpses for looting.
Playing together (which is the base idea of the game) is made difficult when player's levels differ.
If you have 2 lvl20 players in your party and 1 lvl40 player, the game will spawn tons of lvl40 enemies on events and quests, which lvl20 players will have a hard time fighting against and won't be rewarded appropriately either.
PvP is made hard to pull off, puts attackers on a disadvantage, serves no purpose and raises the question if it would even benefit the game if it was patched to actually work.
Except for a bunch of voice recordings and a variety of mostly very common MMO quests, the world has no substantial reason to be visited.
The leveling system, espcially the perk cards, is very bad:
Through the franchise it went from "design a very special/specific person, and then keep them alive as they develop as a character" to "shuffle cards to find out what you're able to do" with a severe disconnect between the character's abilities from who they are - since the player character themselves has no personality.

    Level/Map Design:
The world map was clearly rushed out, since there are quite a lot of random objects floating high in the sky which were probably not cleaned up properly (which usually happens when the creator is in a hurry).

    Graphics:
Alpha-textures flicker for a while occasionally.
Godrays sometimes come out of the ground.
Shadows sometimes follow the player's point of view, instead of actual light sources.
Depth of field can't be turned off, sometimes causes unsharpness to occur in the middle of the screen and occasionally misses out a mode-switch which causes you to see the world in the blurry DoF, that you see at the borders of your scope, while not using your scope.
The game sometimes destabilizes and loads low-LOD objects instead of high-LOD objects.

    Recommendation:
I highly recommend to put this game into re-development.
It is riddled with bugs, has a contradicting uninteresting story and suffers from very poor gameplay design decisions. Comparing this game with the rest of the installments of the franchise a purely Co-Op based Online functionality would have been better to bring players together. PvP could still happen through a separate optional system (such as signing up for it at an arena). The start of the game could have been staged as a dire struggle for survival of the (actually alive and mostly computer controlled) population of Vault 76 as they open the doors (together!) for the first time with story/quest initiators like missile silos or the nuclear power plants Co-Op players could for example take control over an NPC they created themselves, who is one of the vault dwellers. Knowing that this game is probably too big of a failure and the old storytelling method is just that: old, I recommend a reboot with said changes, that puts effort into proper dramaturgy.

Also, unlike what was advertised the game is barely playable solo. Multiple reasons for this: every thing is a bullet sponge that eats though the small amount of ammo that can be found. Then there is the lack of finding Stimpaks or things that can heal you. I can be hours of playing before running across a stimpack. Oh you also need food and water seams like every time I turn around I have to consume one or the other if not both. Also, extremely low cary wight but that's not too bad as you can put stuff in your stash when you get to it... oh and that is already full. no luck there. The game doesn't even have a solid F*&^ing story. It's just read this and that and listen to the F^&&^ing audio files, this piss poor attempt at a story reminds me of Destiny in 2016. Seriously disappointed at Bethesda for absolutely exploiting the Fallout franchise. The actual story doesn't make sense either. It doesn't match with the lore.

The game is borderline broken. There are so many bugs and glitches it's not even funny and just pathetic. The engine is outdated and should just be poot down out of its misery. They should have just created a new engine for this game. The servers are just ****.

In conclusion, don't even think about buying this game, it's an F&^%ing tragedy and should be cancelled from Fallout Lore. Not a Fallout game. - TGV

While it runs fine on my overpriced system it is nothing to be happy about. Because this is an online only game, extensive mods that would likely fix or mask over the glaring issues mentioned before would be impossible. The fact that bugs from the inception of the 'Creation engine' are still present is baffling. Apparently the game physics being tied to the fps was patched the first day, and if so, it must've been a simple fix; why was this not fixed in earlier Bethesda titles then? I haven't had many game breaking bugs but have disconnected multiple times, losing progress each time. Overall this game is a disappointment and is definitely not worth even $20 at this time. I was expecting a Borderlands like experience which would've been fantastic. The backlash wouldn't have been so bad if it were a DLC for Fallout 4, though I understand that technical limitations make this impossible. I will see in a few years if this project will be fleshed out and improved or prematurely abandoned like Fallout 4. Looking forward, I have very low expectations of Bethesda's future releases. Expand

    - abysmal performance and optimisation, outdated graphics, crashes across all platforms.
    - terrible reuse of an old single player game engine to patch together a shallow online experience
    - possible hacks, tons of bugs, easy exploits, terrible AI and pathing which leads me to believe that QA department in this company doesn't exist or they smoked crack while testing it
    - 24 people per server on a giant map. in 2018...
    - game tries to cater to PvE players even though there's no real PvE (robot NPCs, really?), end game doesn't exist
    - game tries to cater to PvP crowd when the combat system between players is totally neutered and really worthless.
    - and a lot of other issues there's no point in mentioning anymore

Bethesda should be ashamed of releasing a product in this state, regardless of the game design they had for this title.

If you need your Fallout dose, play one of the earliest titles with mods.
If you want a higher risk/reward survival sandbox PvP game, play Rust. It's growing very well and has a consistent user base with a lot of different server types. OR play Conan, or Ark. Or whatever else, just not this piece of crap.

Fallout 76, however, has slumped to an all-time low. Had this game not been dubbed a part of the Fallout series, I doubt it would have made it to post-production, much less receive a 5-star review on opening day from diehard fans hellbent on buying anything Fallout related, but being much disappointed soon after. Between technical errors, such as game freezing and or crashing, to quests not beginning or progressing, to multiplayer problems, such as not being able to invite a friend into the party, or simply dropping out from a party mid-mission for no reason, to being killed by invisible foes, Fallout 76 could have used another year for production and game-testing before being released.

The game crashes at least twice every three hours, with frozen screens, followed by a PS4 bluescreen immediately after opening the program and signing in again, black-screens that thrice have required me to manually restart the PS4 within the past week, or signing back in again to find myself 60% irradiated and or have dropped all my additional loot from dying while the game froze. Forced signing out mid-mission guarantees that the ammunition and materials used for repairs are not refunded so that I will have to grind to find more ammunition and materials in hopes that the game won't crash again.

Despite being an entirely online experience, the multiplayer experience sucks. Trading is counterintuitive while dropping a paper bag at your feet works much better than the trading system. Multiplayer seems cool until you realize that each member of your group must pick up mission items individually and that doing so may guarantee that other people in your party, who did not pick up their holotapes, cannot continue with their missions. Players on my friend list often can't join me or even do so when we are in the same game, standing face to face, using the defunct "invite to party" option. Being dropped from a group or not being able to reassemble my four-player group after a system crash and hard reset has also been prevalent.

Then there are in-game issues, too, with being attacked by invisible enemies that I can't target in VATS, can't see, and apparently can't shoot or hit despite being pinged to death by them. Power armor chassis can't be inspected to show the actual pieces I've attached while scrapping to gain modifications almost guarantees that none of the legendary weapons found could be additionally modded. Then there are invisible barriers, or running forward only to load ten steps behind where I had just run, or attacking rad-scorpions that have miraculously jumped on rooftops to attack my turrets, or teleport around instead of actually crawling so that I can't hit them.

Fallout 76 has been a waste of money and time so far, and though I may play it for a few more days in hopes that Bethesda improves their game during the Christmas season... the set-up, storyline, and gameplay has fallen grossly short of their predecessors, and have soured my taste for future Fallout products.

Bethesda deserves all the hate they are receiving.

The game shows everything that is wrong with the video game industry today. An unfinished product, a complete lack of content and infinite and meaningless grinding. By far the worst game of 2018.

First, this is not a Fallout game. The game is okay, not bad, but not great, however when you choose to make an okay game and then laud it as the next Fallout, you're going to have issues. The graphics are okay, the game play is okay sometimes and poor at others (lag is a major factor here, with some mobs hitting you once or twice after you've killed them and others not being hit at all). This game feels rushed and still in the alpha stage (not really even beta) and that's the other issue. THERE ARE NO NPCS OTHER THAN ROBOTS! And I put that in Caps because that's a serious thing to me. Fallout was about an immersive post apocalyptic world where the people you met were as important as the destinations. This was missed by Bethesda. I think what happened is you got a bunch of young designers that love PUBG and Fortnite and decided they were going to make a Fallout based on those games. Again major fail and the game deserves the ratings it's gotten. Expand

Game is buggy but at least some of the bugs can be fixed. Unfortunately the game also includes micro-transactions. Over priced micro-transactions. It's basically a platform to sell micro-transactions instead of a being decent game. Also launched with crazy expensive special editions that didn't deliver on what was advertised. Cash grab.

I am rating this game 0 because not of joining the hate train, but because this is what Fallout 76 truly deserves. This was released as a full price Bethesda title, that that means quality ( Or it used to mean quality )

This game about 4 months after launch is still a buggy mess and the only thing working still is the Atom Store ( the micro-transaction marketplace ) I am still constantly running into bugs, crashes and a whole manor of other issues.

The game itself has no redeeming features once you get over that 5 minute excitement of playing a Fallout game with friends the game is empty, boring and pointless name me one single quest that is fun in this game, not to mention the abysmal controls, its like the whole game suffers from input lag no doubt to the servers not being able to handle the already **** engine Fallout 76 runs on which brings me to my next point. Fans have finally had enough of Bethesda using a 12 year old engine with the same bugs present in Fallout 76 as were present in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, If Bethessda continue to use this engine for TES 6 and Starfield then they are finished, especially if they continue to implement paid mods and micro-transactions which Petey boy insists are mini DLCs when in fact they are paid mods.

My final point is I am also marking this game down due to the people who sold us this rubbish being quiet, I have not heard a peep from Mr Sweet Little Lies Todd Howard or Petey boy regarding Fallout 76 and this is upsetting as it is a huge middle finger to the fanbase that supported them for years and looked past that typical Bethesda charm ( and by charm I mean every single one of their titles using the creation engine or some form of it releasing as one big mess of bugs which the modding community fixes for them and if your on console dont expect a fix for those bugs as Bethesda will be too lazy to do it themselves.

I expect quality from Bethesda not this crap, therefore I award Fallout 76 with a well deserved 0/10 due to Bethesda's utter incompetence to not even get a simple Fallout 4 asset flip right.

Fallout 76 Is a game I had a lot of hope and optimism for. As a concept it sounds like it should be perhaps one of the most engaging Fallout games to date, but in execution it comes short in almost every capacity...

First and foremost, I think it's important to underline a few of the things Fallout 76 does right, because I feel many tend to focus on its worst elements.

One thing Fallout 76 does incredible at, is environmental story telling. The world feels lived in, and the ruins feel atmospheric. Even though this game lacks the NPCs we've all come to enjoy from Fallout, they still manage to present some great side stories through Holotapes, and assorted bits of Lore.
The landscape is brimming with plant life, with it being far more prominent compared to past games in the series; It looks and feels so distinct from anything we're used to seeing from Fallout. There are just so many details you can overlook and so many places you can go; The game just has this level of macbe beauty to it all...

Aside from some of the multiplayer and base building elements there really aren't many more things I can say positively about the game... Fallout 76 just feels like it needed more time. Although many familiar elements from Fallout 4 and other games in the series are here, there are also a lot of things that feel sorely lacking. The procedural events feel awkwardly timed sometimes, and although the world has other players, many are disinterested in communicating let alone engaging with you (Though this isn't necessarily a new thing for multiplayer experiences).
This game wants to be special, and I genuinely feel like they tried to make it good. But as it stands right now, Fallout 76, for all intensive purposes, is a work in progress I just can't recommend.

After reading a lot of **** reviews and a lot of "awesome" reviews I decided to post my own. First of all though, please do yourself a favor and ignore the 0-1 reviews and the 9-10 reviews as well. They're way too extreme.

Instead I have 3 different reviews depending on who you are and what your expectations are:

7 / 10 - this is something you would give if you are new to the franchise, decide to give the devs some slack for being their first MMO game, want to just have fun and enjoy the game. Sure the graphical engine is oldish, the world is devoid of humans but hey at least it's full of stuff to do and you won't get bored for the first 10-20 hours.

5 / 10 - this is the review for those of you who have heard of Bethesda and Fallout but are not die-hard fans. What you'll get is a mixed bag of single player / multi-player RPG features that don't quite work together. The old engine shows, there are pesky bugs all over the place. Not enough to make you leave but enough to take the joy out of it. All in all, a thoroughly average experience.

3 / 10 - this is the grade for Fallout fans through and through. This game just doesn't deliver. And we have come to expect so much from Bethesda. Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, were all awesome games, with great characters and immersive through rich story-telling and intrigue. This is all missing in a soul-less reincarnation of Fallout 4. From the concept. If we take into account the lazy implementation of a non-functional multi-player experience, city building, leveling up and character customization and the 10-year old graphical engine it becomes just a spit in every fan's face.

This is Bethesda we're talking about. They could have invested a lot of money in a new engine, in talented programmers and artists to build the most awesome MMORPG there is. But no, they decided to just make a quick buck.

Last but not least, shame on the publications that took Bethesda's money and write fluff pieces and 7/10+ reviews to sugarcoat what should be clear to anyone it is a full-size disaster.

Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Skyrim, ESO, all released in buggy states, but was at least merited by a devoted user base that was allowed creative and technological freedom to fix and mod the game. Unfortunately, due to this being a online only and multiplayer game, it removes all aspects of user end fixes and modding. This then requires Bethesda to launch a game in a working state. Clearly, it was not. This game has several game breaking bugs, and STILL HAS THEM. Every aspect of Bethesda currently is on fire at the time of writing this review. It is beyond comprehension that a AAA developer the size of Bethesda decided "Yea, we can launch this". Bugs in the B.E.T.A. are still present in the game, if that is any indication the level of effort Bethesda put into the actual game. When updates have to add features that the game should have already had, considering it is a multiplayer game, like: FOV, Push-to-talk, 21:9 support, online only servers, no server browser. I will not be supporting this game, and any future Bethesda games until weeks after release. Congratulations Bethesda, you lost a loyal fan. I've put over 1000 collective hours in F3. I can't wait until you give Obsidian the license for FNV2. At least they can make a good RPG. Expand

As I sit reviewing this trash fire of a game, I can still hear another mic'd player lamenting the fact that I got loaded into his blast zone (no hard feelings, dude, just one of the many glitch-adjacent joys FO76 players get to look forward to) literally TWO MINUTES after I got disconnected from the server and had to Alt F4.

Where to even begin. From the constant server crashes to the fact that the Bethesda team only ever seems to apply patches to things no one actually gives a crap about ("WOW, this game lags so much it's like playing a slideshow but THANK GOD someone fixed the shadows left behind on the Nuka Cola bottles!"), the entire player experience just feels like a joke. A really, really bad joke.

The storyline is OK. The graphics are decent. The gameplay is really fun IF you can go 5 minutes without getting knocked from the server or randomly being teleported into a horde of enemies. I didn't have strong feelings about multiplayer one way or another, but it's not even possible to rate the game on those terms, because it just frankly doesn't work. This outdated engine is so clunky that if it was a car, you couldn't sell it to one of those businesses advertising that they "buy junk cars" for $5. It is really, really that bad.

Just such a waste of potential, such a waste of an incredible setting, cool lore, and standard but enjoyable mechanics. Oh, well. I guess if you like the idea of Fallout, but instead of a playable game, it's a slideshow, this one's great.

NO, I DIDNT THAT'S BECAUSE IT TAKES UP MOST OF THE GAME, then whenever you do get it and die you lose all your hard earned resources. don't worry though because you can claim plots to gather resources, but here's the catch, NOT ONLY DOES IT COST CAPS BUT HIGH-LEVEL PLAYERS TEND TO RAID IT AND ALL THE WORK YOU PUT INTO IT GOES TO THEM, plus most players hate building in the first place unlike me though. moving on we have multiplayer, THE WORST DECISION BETHESDA HAS EVER MADE. ok so multiplayer meant annoying players like earlier, it means when questing theirs normally another player one step ahead of you that spoils the plot, and lastly it means NO NPC'S, WHICH MEANS A HORRIBLE STORY AND THAT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST FACTORS THAT MAKES THIS A HORRIBLE GAME. also, the glitches so their everywhere because THE GAME USES A 16-YEAR-OLD ENGINE. also, microtransactions are really expensive one skin could cost almost 20$. plus Bethesda said they were a company about mods but they removed that aswell which is one of the most fun things about their previous games. and don't even get me started on disasters outside the game like how they leaked thousands of peoples personal info. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 76 is a collection of contradictions.

On the one hand, even at the time of writing, it has some big bugs, on the other hand they pale in comparison to the fun of launching nukes and the multitude of events.
The story is an incredibly deep, tragic, complicated, meditation on technology and its relationship with humankind, yet it is ultimately a jigsaw puzzle composed by ghosts. It is an incredibly solemn, at times lonely, experience, but conversely it has the best community of people you could possibly play with.
All of this is to say that Fallout 76 doesn't work on the terms of a typical single player RPG, where choice results from the differing desires of NPCs. BGS has made them before, and there are numerous others on the market. It works because in between the quests and events, there is a collection of incredibly fun gameplay experiences. Fighting the Scorchbeast Queen with a server of strangers, uncovering the history of Appalachia leading up to Reclamation Day (Myst as written by Cormack McCarthy), helping new players build their CAMP, and of course launching nukes. The voice actors are phenomenal, perfectly setting the mood of the game. And the frequent updates have made the game better, with backpacks, events, and bug fixes. The new Nuclear Winter mode is another addictive addition, with high replayability. Highly recommended. Because of, not in spite of, the contradictions.

So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
