    Nearly lifeless, perhaps it is not just for me. To go into what I liked, that beginning was intense and hooking however this being my first Fallout game, I soon was put into a near lifeless environment with no clue where to go. I could tell that this game emphasizes content over style but with this sort of game, it seems more of a chore than a game.     I thought this would be the first good first person Fallout game since Fallout 3. I totally believed the hype and wanted it to be as memorable as that first time I played Fallout 3. But it just didn't deliver. The story is generally not very compelling and I found myself pretty disinterested in it fast. Everything just feels like a bit of a chore and there's no real sense of fun to any ofI thought this would be the first good first person Fallout game since Fallout 3. I totally believed the hype and wanted it to be as memorable as that first time I played Fallout 3. But it just didn't deliver.     Зачем было делать так чтобы, выбрав одну из сторон, ты АВТОМОТИЧЕСКИ теряешь все связи с остальными. Меня заставляют, искусственно, проходить игру 2 раза, чтобы увидеть весь сюжет полностью. Это не честно!
    К тому же чью бы ты сторону не избрал: Подземку, Институт, Братство стали или даже Минитменов, ты всё равно окажешся подлецом и придателем. Очень странно. Отыграть хорошего человека в Fallout 4 не получится.
    Добавили это идиотское строительство, кому это надо? Хотели объять все жанры - не выйдет!
    Производительность на PS4 так себе, fps часто сильно падает.
    Опять таки та атмосфера апокалипсиса, какая была в третьей части, пропала, толи из-за картинки, толи, почему то ещё, не знаю.
    Ещё нет русской озвучки, а жаль, погружение в мир игры страдает. А для таких атмосферных игр это очень важно.
    О, эти возрождающиеся противники. Это же Fallout, как я понимаю, очень дорогая игра, а не какая то бюджетная инди разработка. Так навскидку. Я зачистил от супер мутантов один дом, когда вернулся в эту локацию из соседней, дом был опять полон этими же мутантами и так много раз. Хотели заполнить жизнью мир игры? Ну замените мутантов на рейдеров, а за тем на каких-нибудь гулей. А то замочил мутанта, ушел, вернулся, а он опять живой, на своём же месте, трупы пропали. Ё маё, это же портит всё ощущение живого мира! И куда исчезли мои любимые кентавры?
    А в остальном вроде ничего, шутан подкрутили, анимацию тоже, броню проработали, а так же.........всё.
    Так что я разочарован.    … Expand

    Before I note the many issues I have with this game, I should mention that the combat, gunplay, and controls of Fallout 4 have never been better in the entire series. The shooting feels completely different from Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and for the first time, I feel like shooting my way out of a situation is more fun than talking through dialogue. The dialogue system lacks any real depth and the fact that they added voice acting to the protagonist makes it feel less like I made my own unique character, and more like Bethesda made one for me and I just happen to be able to control him. The leveling up system is no longer enjoyable either, and the writing and plot are so bad and downright insulting to the intelligence of the player that it feels like Bethesda just gave up caring. Fallout 3 was a love letter to the original Fallout games, while this felt like it was just an excuse for Bethesda to keep their hands onto the Fallout IP.… Expand

    The game is not intuitive, it is not a game for casual players. Here guides do not exist, you'll be tired half a day to move the game forward. PS4 is declines frames per second. The story is as simple as tripe with oil, literally the moment we are in the apocalypse. Nothing special.

    Fallout 4 is not a bad game. There are moments in the game where you lose yourself in hoarding objects, building settlements, or exploring new locations. That actually can be very fun. Even during end-game quests, you go to a location and kill all the bad guys. The game occasionally gives you the option of peaceful resolution but mostly you are forced to kill every moving thing. This gets really boring and really brakes immersion.

    The game has instances of severe framerate drops on the ps4.

    I had fun playing the game but overall I felt that it reused the old formula and abused it. I would have given it a 6 were it not for the framerate issues.    … Expand

    About 8 hours into my first character I go into someones shack and steal an empty cola bottle when no one is looking. Unknowing that everyone has psychic powers the entire town teleports through the door and guns me down. Following a load screen I respawn in the same place with everyone shooting me I die again. So far on my second character and much further into the game nothing game breaking has happened yet but I feel like I have to be very careful which is not a problem I should be having.

    So Fallout 4 is a buggy mess and I would have awarded a higher score if it hadn't been however, probably not that much higher as the game itself isn't really very good.

    The game has a very stupid and intrusive 'government took ma be-beh' storyline. The worst thing about this is every time you speak with an NPC your character insists on telling them something that you already know and don't care about for the entire game.

    Dialogue choices that don't matter is something that really annoys me about modern games and Fallout 4 does it all the time which is a massive problem for an RPG with so many of them.

    The game world is massive and exploring it is probably the most fun thing to do in the game. There are loads of missions and side quests but unfortunately everything you do feels like busy work. There is so much busy work in Fallout 4 I had to quit my job in real life just to figure out how base building works as there is no real tutorial or explanation for it in the game.

    The combat aspect is weak. Shooting is not satisfying. You don't really feel like your hitting anything unless you use VATS which is essential when the dumb enemy AI just runs at you and there's nothing you can do about it.

    Far too much inventory management, constantly having to drop items because I'm over my equip burden. Ultimately though it's all the load screens which really puts me off. Dying, fast travel, going into buildings. Every few seconds a load screen is there to break the immersion and illusion of the open world.

    Fallout 4 just looks and feels old, in it's bland missions, uninspired level design and creaky game engine. Some people may be able look past these flaws and throw themselves into all the busy work. I am not one of them.    … Expand

Between the obvious lack of heart involved in this cash-grab glorified Fallout 3 DLC, the use of a tired, buggy engine and the "streamlined" dialog one realizes that 90% of these review web-sites or magazines are clearly in Bethesda's pocket.

    It's a very fun game, but as this is a USER SCORE, i have to write this review as a fallout series player, which is why i give the game a 4, i want it to be RED.

    The game has an interesting setting, and the combat and open world aspect is great. There's almost no quest with complex story writing; in general, the script aspect of conversations and general dialogue is POOR by any standards. What i want to express is that Fallout is an RPG, but Fallout 4, in my honest opinion, Is NOT.

    I played this game for 4 hours and that was more than enough for me to remove the disc and list it on eBay. A clunky control system and a menu that has to be one of the worst I have seen, took their toll on my patience. If Bethesda spent 7 years making this piece of junk, they should all do the right thing and resign.

    This is hands down the buggiest game i've played in recent memory. I can't believe their QA department passed this game as a sellable product. You can't go 20 minutes without encountering a significant bug. The graphics are also inconsistent, There are some parts that look so next gen, others look like a ps2 game.     The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is also dumbed down to a point where your choices don't even matter. You can just upgrade your base stats at level-up, so your initial "character" does not affect your play style at all. Not that it would anyway, because I don't see any effect of the stats on the game play apart from being able to carry more ****

    The story so far, well, it's the same beginning as in every other Fallout really. However, the story progression and the NPC's you meet are extremely one dimensional and I actually feel like murdering them all rather than having to suffer through the painfully uninspiring dialogues.

    I personally do not care for the graphics that much, which seems to be a major gripe for a lot of people, but this game is just not up to par in next gen gaming. What's worse is that it is actually VERY difficult to spot enemies without using VATS due to the "improved" graphics, particularly when compared to New Vegas.

    At launch, it is filled with bugs and **** The framerate is at times abysmal. The character gets stuck on invisible obstacles, and so forth. If it wasn't a Fallout game, I would have quite playing after the first 4 hours.

    Final word:
    Am I going to finish the game? Abso-fcking-lutely.
    Am I going to replay it? No.
    Is this the GOTY? NO!

    (Hopefully there will be patches lined up pretty soon or the broken game play and engine might force me to put this on the shelf until I'm tired of SW:BW)    … Expand

    - Radio is boring. ThreeDog, or even Mr. New Vegas from previous games are much better than Travis,

    -The new settlements were fun and contributed to at least half of my playtime, but once the release hype faded, I realized I was playing a souped up Farmville. A majority of gameplay is reduced to filling up on junk, fast traveling home and repeating.

    -No Soul.The time I left vault 101 in Fallout 3, Bethesda had already taken me on a magic carpet ride of emotions. From birth, my birthday party, my first crush, dealing with bullies, and ultimately leaving the shelter, by the time the intro was over, I had already established the fundamentals of my character’s identity. Fallout 4 takes that level of character building and attachment to narrative and flushes it down the toilet. I found myself completely unmoved by the elimination of specific main characters, and change of circumstances because I had not been given a reason to care. In Fallout 3 I wanted so badly for my girlfriend (Amata) to follow me into the wasteland, and felt so sad that she didn’t want to leave with me.

    No Karma Sytem -My biggest complaint about Fallout 4 in general was the removal of the Karma system. The karma system was exchanged for a faction system in New Vegas. Many of us hoped that maybe it was just an Obsidian thing and that as soon as Bethesda made a new Fallout that the Karma system would make its triumphant return. Unfortunately this was not the case. In fact when trying to just be evil in Fallout 4 there were absolutely no repercussions other than angry NPCs. In the main quest, it is impossible to be a bad guy. No matter what you say the plot moves forward the same way with little to no difference had you chose the ‘nice guy’ dialogue options. I’m not saying that this is a deal breaker for me, but I believe it’s a big talking point for those who really loved the ‘play your own way’ aspects of Bethesda games.

    - Graphic looks outdated but this is less important than story / quests or gameplay.

    Positve:

    +Gameplay.While the game did leave me with a bad taste in my mouth, I can say that I really enjoyed flying over enemies, landing on them and proceeding to decapitate some fools with my Chinese officer's sword. Also, the shooting quality was a huge step up from past games.

    +The weapon upgrade system is nice However, there isn't as much available for armor

    I started playing the Fallout series with Fallout 3 on PS3, and I loved it. It got me into the Elder Scrolls games too, and I played both Oblivion and Skyrim. I bought New Vegas, loved it and played the hell out of it. I'm now playing Fallout 4, and to be honest its not a good game, maybe a "OK" game but very bad a Fallout 4 game.i give 4 out of 10 im very dissapointed :( *sniff*    … Expand

    I am stuck at a part where I am supposed to grow pomatoes, wheat and whatnot. I spent half an hour looking for vegetables then I fall asleep in front of my TV. My dog disappeared. What kind of game is that?

    No "Hardcore mode", no weapon/armor degradation, no reputation system, no "traits", and the plot and characters are flat.
    But you can build weapons, houses and interact with the "real" pip-boy, so who cares?

    If you enjoyed New Vegas, DON'T BUY IT.
    It's FarCry with Skirym features.

    Thanks Bethesda for ruining the Fallout series.

    The game is disappointing. The story is very predictable, missions are boring and do not make sense most of the time. Regardless of decisions or path you take the ending is the same. Very disappointing.

    I thought I was going crazy. This game is just as awkward to play as MGSV. Thank you to other reviewers who shared this opinion. I am very upset at this game plus Bloodborne and MGSV. I feel robbed of about $180, wait The Order Of 1886 makes $240.

    2015 was pathetic and I lost hope in gaming.

    Thank You God for THE WITCHER 4 & RISE OF THE WOMB RAIDER.

I'm pretty sure they re-used a ton of assets from those two games as well. The story is retarded. The facial animations on the NPCs when they are talking and interacting with you look ridiculous.     Fallout 4 with upscaled textures, same resolution. Graphically it's a shame, it does not look like a current-gen game. It looks like someone ripped Skyrim and upscaled the textures a bit. Almost no shadows anywhere and framerates routinely drop below 20 FPS in heated battles.

    Gameplay, it's more Fallout 3 with building mechanics. Nothing really new to the table.

    I pre-ordered this ... what a mistake.

    I find it difficult to believe, with the new generation consoles, that i have to put up with clunky graphics. I reload Witcher 3 and then go back to Fall out 4 and wonder if the people at Bethesda are watching their competition. Why doesnt my hair move ... The narrative gets lost.     The UI is hard to handle with no improvements to inventory and the map. Frame rates, when there are too many people on the screen, are intolerable. I have even encountered areas free of NPCs, that i have frame rate issues ... seriously disappointing.

    Immortal NPCs ..... nuff said. They should have given the dog a cape and painted a huge "S" on it. One of the things that was set as a feature was all of the voice acting but it doesnt help me engage with the characters. When i played Witcher 3 i felt i was part of the story and it didnt matter minor the quest was. The dialogue and how the dialogue was introduced by my character made me feel as though i was a part of the story and that i was important. Fallout in contrast is quite the opposite in that i just dont care and i am having difficulty connecting to the story.

    Best thing about this game is that its new and i can sell it to someone at work, probably at a loss. Bethesda, i am going back to replay Witcher 3 +mode.    … Expand

    Everything was dumbed down from past Fallout games, hell, even Fallout 3 (which was pretty dumb) had better RPG elements. If you're a fan of the real Fallout games, you will hate this. If you are a fan of the RPG genre, you will despise this.
    Not only the RPG elements were dumbed down, but a lot of the aspects of difficulty, like the lifespan of your weapons. Bethesda excels in taking the Fallout franchise, where Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 were considered some of the greatest, greatest RPG games ever made, and turn it into a generic shooter.

    Then we start with the dumb stuff (no spoilers):
    -Dialog wheel. Who the hell thought this was a good idea? The dialog wheel's only purpose is to kill the immersion with the character and also to dumb down your character's dialog.
    -Voiced main character: Sucks because of the same reasons as dialog wheel. Zero immersion with your character. Imagine a voiced Gordon Freeman.
    -Combat: Even though it is not bad at all to have shooting elements in a Fallout game, Fallout 4 forces those elements in. 20 minutes into the game and you get yourself involved in a scripted shooting mission, then you unlock the power armor, get back in the scripted scene with a scripted Deathclaw.
    -Difficulty: You can change the difficulty at any given time (very stupid for any video game). Also power armor at 20 minutes into the game. Also immortal dogmeat.
    -Writing: It is known by everyone that Bethesda sucks at writing a coherent story and or dialogs.
    -Writing: Remember the multiple story lines, nonlinear main story and freedom of story flow, faction cooperation and all that sweet stuff from Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and New Vegas? Well, all that stuff is gone.
    -More writing: Remember the gray moral system of New Vegas? Well, welcome back again to Fallout 3's black or white moral system.
    -More writing (ending) (no spoilers): Bethesda can't come up with an original story, so they had to rip it off the original Fallout 3 Van Buuren. Only dumbing it down to choosing either A or B. Way to go guys.

    Not to mention the frame rate drops and ugly graphics.

    The game is just plain bad. Bethesda managed to ruin every single improvement Obsidian made on New Vegas. It's a shame honestly. The real fans can only hope that some day Bethesda green lights Obsidian to make another Fallout game. If that never happens, then we can agree that Fallout is dead.    … Expand

Spanish voice actors I mean, don't know how the English voice acting is for the game, but I wish I could, because guess what, I CAN'T CHANGE THE F***ING LANGUAGE OF THE GAME!! WHYYY!!!

    And the decisions you make on the game are:
    Option 1: YES
    Option 2: NO
    ^ That's exactly the kind of decisions you are going to find on this game. Awesome right?...

    It took me quite some time to get used to the controls of the game because they are not what you would consider good...

    I'm not going to play the game right now any longer, I'm going to wait for some patches because the game needs them. So right now I give the game a 4, when they release some patches maybe it will go up to a 6 or even more. I hope so...

Crafting system means instead of going to a vendor, you will scrap useless weapons of your enemies and modify your own. Radiation matters and it matters much.     Main issue of this game? You go to the nearest location of your vault and hear shooting raiders. Not thinking much you go shooting them, a obvious quest-giver hero figure shows and thanks you because you had a choice to go away. Oh, really? My only real choice there was to start a mission or not start a mission. I couldn't shoot him in the face, I couldn't just tell them to run away with me to the sanctuary, since I wanted to make a pacifist run. No the only real choice I had was to mow down Raiders with a minigun in a power suit, or go away. I couldn't even make a choice about how my character would behave. It was mostly yes, no, question and sarcastic, which half of the time is playful, half is annoyed. Which brings us to another great issue: lack of character creation. Sure I could sculpt faces of both of them however I wanted, but it was still a person capable of having a family. No psychopaths, no antisocial nerds. Wonder how he got such a good wife with one point of charisma. Part of what makes Bethesda recipe games good is how we forget about main quest while exploring surroundings, each having it's own story. No such thing in Fallout 4. You will constantly remind everybody (and game will for you) that you have a son you don't care about to rescue. The settlement mechanic is slapped on the game and provides you no reason to use it. Do you really care about some unnamed settlers who provide no reason to fight for them, only demanding really useful and rare resources like military grade circuit board, for some radiated fruits?

    Game isn't even immersive, does not make you care about what goes on the screen, only to push your armor to protect you against more damage. No illusion of autonomy, you either go a one specific way designers expect you to, or you don't go at all. It's worst sin is that unlike Skyrim, which had many similar problems, it's also unengaging of all things.    … Expand

    just about everything is wrong. It has MINOR improvements from Fallout 3 and is just that. Seven years later, seven.

    When i try to sneak around enemies my Companion chooses to just facetank everything and give up my stealth advantage. They block paths and pick up random stuff no one told them to do.
    Quests are "Go there and kill" in short or "go there, kill and bring back"
    Map size has been reduced and its filled with Locations without any meaning where u just face hordes of enemies. The new dialogue system is a joke, u don't really have any options except Yes,No,not sure and a dumb question. After playing the main story and a few sidequests u begin to realize that there's not much to do at all. Combat system has improved but still has a long way to go before I can call it decent.
    The game is filled with countless (old) bugs and framerate issues which i cant understand because the graphic is far from being anywhere near GTA 5 or The Witcher 3.
    All in all just a huge disappointment of a Game that in the end doesn't deserve a rating higher then 6/7
    or all this hype. too bad i didnt buy the retail version of this game to refund it. i hope people don't pre order Bethesda's next TES to make them work for their money.
    I do have hope tho if Bethesda makes it able to mod this game for ps4. Until then just wait for the game to drop to about 30 €.    … Expand

    *the last part of my entire entry* I found some BOS guys who had a quest for me but were fighting off ghouls that spawned infinitely into existence. I ran inside of a building only to see that the ghouls were punching me through the walls. Which they can do without glitching out. A man appeared and helped us out but the BOS guys started attacking him. He was invincible though, so the BOS*the last part of my entire entry* I found some BOS guys who had a quest for me but were fighting off ghouls that spawned infinitely into existence. I ran inside of a building only to see that the ghouls were punching me through the walls. Which they can do without glitching out. A man appeared and helped us out but the BOS guys started attacking him. He was invincible though, so the BOS guys just chased him down and have been crippling him from then on. I haven't seen any of them since. Quest gone. That was the quest to join the brotherhood. And it's gone. At that moment I realised that "sloppy and not-entirely-planned out" summed up this game perfectly and I've happily not played it since. There's usually a time frame for a game to be this unstable and unfinished and it's called the 'beta phase'.… Expand

Everyone says the graphics suck cu the world is so big but it seems to me like witcher 3 had a world roughly the same size and somehow pulled of graphics that are worthy of nextgen hardware.
    The story is as everyone says absolutely awful everything happens so quickly and if you stay on track with the main quest you can reach absolute disappointment in under 4 hours. Also Due to bad graphics, lousy dialogue, absolute no facial expressions or body language talking to npcs is a chore and paying attention to the story is hard. Coincidentally enough the most captivating npc (Nich Valentine) is actually a robot go figure.
    Lets focus on some changes to gameplay that apart from lousy graphics and story make it less enjoyable than its predecessors.
    1 V.A.T.S. is so nerfed it's not worth using. In fallout 3 and NV vats nearly stopped everything giving you time to decide if it was worth it to take a head shot or go for the high percentage body shot. Now in this game if you use vats to hit a group a ghouls that are fairly far away you have like 3 seconds to decide what to do before you get pummeled to the ground. They reduced vats damage too I seriously do more damage if I just aim at their head an pull the trigger than if I use vats. It also feels like your speed is much slower than the enemies so if you are fighting just one guy (and you haven't been killed because you weren't lightning fast deciding what to shot at using vats) when you actually execute an attack in vats he hits you more than you hit him what a joke. This makes vats useless and turns this game into an fps which isn't what i paid 60 bucks for.
    2. Where did the enemies go on my compass?
    So I guess you enemy blips don't show up on your screen until they are aware of your presence. Well that worked great in Skyrim because you were usually in the small confines of a mine or a monster's lair but in fallout 4 where everything being so open (and the graphics making every thing look the same doesn't help) it makes being sneaky sneaky completely impossible. Along with this is there are no more compass markers for friendly npcs. This sometime makes questing difficult, it is extremely easy to lose companions. Worst of it all if you happen upon a friendly npc while your doing the sneaky sneaky (yeah I sadly took a nija perk how silly of me) and you blow em away cuz you think hes a raider. (yeah that happened to me once and I had to reload the game) . Honestly why isn't there just a minimap it'd make the game a hell of a lot more easy to enjoy. I also dislike that there are no skill points it just didn't make leveling up as fun as it used to be.
    3. the raido station seems like they got the greatest hits for fallout 3 and fallout NV and made that be the radio station for this game which bothered me cuz I liked listening to those super old fashioned songs but honestly I've had enough of "Butcher Pete" and that binga banga bongo i don't wanna leave the congo tarzan song.
    Someone mentioned not being able to adjust gamma or brightness which isn't a big deal because you can adjust your tv though every next gen game I've played has some sort of brightness adjustment. This isn't the case for a ps Vita I can't simply change the brightness to a point where I can see using remote play. It sucks needing a flashlight past 4pm or I can't see 3 feet in front of me on my Vita. Also for some reason they changed the controls when using remote play with a Vita instead of sprint being R3(which is on the rear of the Ps Vita) they have sprint as the down button on the d pad..... Yeah very smart so I somehow need to hold the down button of the d pad and move the joystick with the same hand. Thanks bethesda
    I did kind of like he settlement construction stuff but it was crude and left me wanting more. The shooting mechanics are improved too but that still plays into the hand of this being an fps with a story instead of an rpg.

    After 48 hours, I decided to stop playing the game. I have not completed the main quest, neither the factions quests. Just the minutemen.
    I'm kind of disappointed with the game, tbh it is what I expected, it may not be the game for me. But I do think it can be a great game for some players.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the first game that has prompted me to create a meta critic account to provide a review for other users. The game is a serious disappointment given the time Bethesda have had to develop it. Many of the RPG elements that made the Fallout series great have been discarded or even further dumbed down and the game plays like an open world shooter. Unfortunately, it's not a very good shooter either.

    Positives
    Gear customisation and crafting. Pretty cool feature and led to some fun self-made scavenger hunts.
    Settlement building. Great potential but poorly executed (see negatives). Adds a world building element that makes sense in a post-apocalyptic setting.
    Companions. Diverse range of engaging companions.
    Environment - Post-nuclear Boston is an engaging sandbox to explore.

    Negatives
    Character building - a pretty basic RPG staple and an aspect of previous Fallout games I loved.
    In Fallout 4, no investment in character building is required. There is no skill system with level upgrades now spent on attribute upgrades and a limited range of perks. There is also no level cap. Basically this means that your character is now infinitely upgradable to a heroic every-man. Linking the perks to SPECIAL attributes is an interesting idea but rendered redundant by the lack of level cap. Overall, will ultimately hurt replayability of the game.

    Graphics. Graphics look like Fallout 3 remastered and anyone expecting next-gen graphics in the game will be highly disappointed. On its own not a major drawback but if you're going to gut the RPG aspects of the game and turn out a glorified shooter, then, sorry, graphics matter.

    Insipid storytelling. Main quest is ripped off from Fallout 3 and while there are numerous side quest and factional quest threads, these consist mainly of travel to location, kill enemies / retrieve item, return to base. Seriously could care less choosing between Faction A/B/C/D as there is little consequence to player decisions for most of the game.
    Settlement building. Once the initial novelty of playing with the crafting system is done with, there is little motivation to actually want to continue. The UI is clunky and constructs mesh poorly with the surrounding environment. There is little to no interaction possible with settlers apart from demanding resources or thanking you for killing enemies.
    NPC interaction - There's supposedly over a 100,000 lines of dialog in the game, but have yet to come across any that is particularly interesting or engaging yet. For the most part human NPC's are hollow, emotionless, 2-D cardboard cutouts and provide the same level of interaction and motivation as talking to robots. This may be also partly due to the terrible character animation.
    Companion AI - worse than enemy AI which hasn't improved at all from FO3. Was a minor annoyance initially, but after 40+hrs in, its just tedious.
    Challenge - The only challenge to be found in the game is fighting and killing things. There's no engaging scavenger hunts, puzzles, quests that demand non-violent resolution. Providing power armor with a scripted death claw killing at the start of the game was a serious misstep. It also takes away a lot of the sense of vulnerability prevalent in the early stages of other Fallout games. The game took on a familiar "dungeon grind" vibe fairly quickly.

    Overall, the game is not terrible but very very average. Cannot understand at all the generally positive consensus review from so-called professional critics.

The factions present in the game, Bethesda tried their best to make them varying but they are all pretty much after the same goals. Ironically Fallout 4 actually left me feeling no connection to the Commonwealth as the choices I made neither changed the map, territory of certain factions or the weather. The only thing that actually changed was settlements. Settlements, limitless simple tasks to gain area to craft and rest but that's pretty much it. In earlier games like Fallout New Vegas if you were to adventure into the open you would stumble on an interesting scene or battle however in Fallout 4 this is more rare and more likely you will be attacked by a legendary creature before you actually got to see something interesting. The lack of weapons and clothing should also be noted as most of the weapons present in the game is a type of pistol; The actual interesting weapons such as Laser Guns or Energy Weapons are rare and either look unattractive sound annoying or both. The assault and combat rifles look bland and dull, Few interesting or varying weapons, which is a real deal-breaker for me. Combat actually feels devolved from the last games and less immersive. Armors usually range from small sets of items that you can equip on your body but there doesn't seem to be any variation aside from color or material and the cool looking glowish or flamed clothing in no where to be found. Cloth is awful on it's own so lets not go into that cause of lack of casual or modern attire, lack of any powerful combat armor that doesn't look like a robot, lack of attractive faction attire. You run out of ammo very fast and need to constantly switch weapons or find some. Mods do not turn the game into a new experience the most mods can do is create interesting new weapons and settlements but that's about it. A.I mods are decent but could be better as followers disappear and all environment mods due is add vegetation. Most mods require some type of DLC to work and Sony refuses to allow any real changes to come to this already short lived game. Fallout 4 is immensely boring and the developers do little to change this throughout your "journey" through the Commonwealth you will kill, fight, eat, sleep, die, help and that's it the main story line can be captivating some times but falls to certain cliches like "you must have x amount of x to complete this quest. Some characters are likable but other annoy the hell out of you and make you want to kill them. Fallout 4 also does a horrible job of "splitting the story" as in creating your own arcs or alternate missions cause these only include help the x settlement defend x OVER and OVER. Or go fetch x from x! it's mediocre to it's core what we wanted was some epic adventure story with awesome enemies and weapons we did not get this. Fallout 4 could have done more to improve the game like add more weapons and perks but they choose not to. The devs failure to innovate outside of DLC has dramatically reduced Fallout 4's replay value. Certain situations where you should be able to intervene are not present and instead you are given simple scripted events like help x fight x! It is a disappointment to say the least. I guess when I was playing the Vanilla version of this game completely mod-free the promise of reward and adventure kept me going and kept me curious but now I've realized what a truly empty experience it is.… Expand

    I guess, I'll start with the new improvements and good things. The shooting is nice, and the graphics are alright at best, but still satisfying. The customisations also pretty good. And that's where the positive points end.

    Next, the bad things. The dialogue is horrible. You have for options, to speak for every conversation, and that's it. I'll give you an example;

    Quest Giver: "Please sir, I need help, my daughter is in trouble! Can you go save her from these raiders?"

    You: Yes (Yes), Maybe (yes), How about some money (yes), or no (you will still get the quest anyways).

    And if you decide to say no, maybe because your busy or something, your character will say something along the lines of this:

    "I don't have time for your **** old man." (Remember, he still gives you the quest)

    Next, there are no choices. It gives you the illusion of choice, but no real choices are ever made. Even when you beat the game with a faction, all that changes is literally three guards from said faction will hang around Diamond city, and the flags in diamond city will change. THAT'S **** IT.

    Next, the voice acting. The guy sounds like a douche so much, and some of the sarcastic choices make me cringe so badly.

    Next, there are next to no side quests. Once the main quest is finished, good luck trying to find ANYTHING else to do. The side quests that are there are lackluster, and boring most of the time.

    Next, there is no role playing, which is strange for a role playing game. You HAVE to love shaun, your son, even though you've only known him for three minutes. You HAVE to love your wife or husband, whom you have only known for a massive FIVE minutes, before he/she dies. You are forced to have a kid, a wife or husband, which seriously sucks. It takes away roleplaying, as you can't choose your life before the wastes. Also, you are given no time to feel any sort of love or attachment to these two, which also sucks, as they expect you to care for them.

    Next, the Minutemen. Hands down, this is the WORST faction in fallout history. They are the goodie two-shoes of the wasteland, and have next to no lore, and their sole purpose of being there is to endorse the settlement building, which brings me to my next point.

    Without mods, the settlement building sucks. You can't place things where you want almost all of the time, and there is no real reward in it unless you simply do it for fun.

    Next, the loading screens. This game was made in late 2015, on next gen platforms, and on console the loading screens are still long as **** You'll find yourself walking into a building by accident, and actually getting mad, because you now have to wait bout a minute before you can go in, then leave, which is another minute.

    Overall, not a good game, but sometimes it can be enjoyable. SOMETIMES.

    Theres also a real problem with exploration...theres way too many boarded up houses that cant be accessed at all, dungeons that are one room, and Bethesda really missed an oppurtunity to add a Capitol Wasteland DLC. (in fact the DLC for Fallout 4 is lazy and short, now we know why the season pass was so cheap at launch)

    Such a huge let down given how good 3 and NV were, we waited years for this and it just doesn't measure up to the high bar set by past Fallout games.

    №1 У игры неплохая атмосфера, несмотря на то, что 1 и 2 часть фоллаута были похожи на 1 и 2 мэд макса соответственно, мне пустошь в 4 фоллауте понравилась, возможно карта практически как в Скайриме, но суть не в этом, суть в том что куда бы ты не пошел, ты наткнешься на что-то, и тут нету огромных пустых пространств, "якобы сделанных для атмосферы путешествия", как в третьей части.
    №3 Напарники. Их много и несколько из них очень интересны.
    №2 Силовая броня(или терминатор на батарейках). Они сделали главное, теперь это действительно силовая броня, которая падает на дно, если попадет в воду, от которой отрываются куски(при ударе об нее любой палкой, ага), в которой даже можно таранить всех и так далее.

    Минусы:

    №1 Геймплей. Он отвратителен, многие хвалят шутерную составляющую, мол она стала лучше и стрелять приятнее, нихрена подобного, оружие все так же не чувствуется, а противники практически не реагируют на выстрелы. Все оружие одинаковое и вообще начальный пистолет оказывается чуть ли не самым мощным оружием на хардкоре.
    №2 Диалоги - Великолепные, разнообразные и интересные[САРКАЗМ]
    №3 Квесты. Пожалуй, главный минус этой части. Квестов здесь очень мало, хорошие вообще можно по пальцам одной руки сосчитать, а остальное это из разряда убей 100 супермутантов/гулей/рейдеров/стрелков и так далее.
    №4 Фракции. Мне напомнить сколько их было в New Vegas? Пять, это если я никого не забыл. У каждых свои истории, квесты и причины. В 4 фоллауте же у нас Две основных фракции и две второстепенные, квесты которых состоят из убей 100 противников. Гениально, бефезда.
    №5 Города. Один город на всю игру, остальные стройте сами, а мир мертв, вообще. Даже случайных встреч нету. №6 Крафт. А на самом деле его отсутствие, все что мы делаем это создаем маленькие детали к оружию, которое почти его не меняет. То же касается брони, с крафтом Тодд Говард нас всех знатно обманул. Ну ему не впервой.
    №7 Оптимизация. Худшая AAA игра в этом году в плане оптимизации(бэтмена не считаем, потому что сейчас говорится о PS4-версии). При настолько отвратительной графике, дальности прорисовки и количестве физических обьектов, лаги, провисания, загрузки длинною в 2-3 минуты, это просто что-то за гранью говна и зла.

Some bugs, frame rate dips, terrible clipping now and again with several BSOD over a space of 400 hours of back to back game play. That must have been the **** they were thinking when creating that conver system. And by chance those answers are divided in : evil, good, neutral and funny. We have lost a lot of depth in the development of story because of that.

    - The game play has been improved... but now this video game looks like a Call of Duty, losing the strategy element , being possible to fade the enemies only with our fire power. You can argue this by saying that the main character is an ex soldier so he's skilled with weapons, and that leads to the next point...

    - An ARPG must make feel the player to be part of the story by giving the player a huge fan of possibilities to personalize the experience. But in this game we are forced to play with a character that has an own story ( SPOILER: he's an ex soldier of the US army ) which eliminates a lot of role from our experience, not as the other video games in which you were someone building your story step by step, discovering who you were.

    - The character has voice which personally I think it's horrible since this is supposed to be an ARPG .

    - SO MANY BUGS: disappearing characters, if it's in the night and you are inside a building everything is illuminated which makes no sense, and so on.

    - TOO EASY : in Fallout video games the pinacle of experience was getting a power armor which was the moment you could feel the power flowing your veins , but in this game you are getting the power armor in the FIRST MISSION which makes the video game less enjoyable since you are the **** boss since the first moment. The fusion batteries are no excuse because there are loads of them and you never need to get out of the armor.
    Almost the same thing happens with the Fatman.

    - ANIMATIONS : it looks like you are talking to robots , and this isn't anything new in the saga, but ffs this is a 2015 video game, they could have worked on that a bit. It's funny when you are talking to a character and it turns its back on you.

    CONCLUSION: If you are not a Fallout fan and want a light entrance to ARPG genre this is a good option, but if you are a Fallout fan , you can't approve this because it could lead to the deterioration of the saga.    … Expand

    This game was just boring to play, you are the father of some family that is trying to rescue your child, I think. Since your wife is dead, you are left to roam on a desolated earth. Obviously the combat needs no aiming, but the guns need aiming, what's up with that? The graphics are good, though.

    · DOWNGRADED. Fallout 4 basically REMOVES many of the core mechanics from previous games; skill points, proper player dialogue, player choice, karma system, and the reputation system, faction affiliation, There is barely any survival elements to the game. Within an hour you're given a Power Armor and a mini-gun. Choosing answers via the dialogue is difficult because the whole sentence is not spelled out meaning that your character might say something that you did not intend him or her to say. But that does generally not matter. While there is options, these are only an illusion of freedom. There is Yes (yes) sarcastic (yes) and No (yes) and more information. So there is really no choice. Many characters are invincible. The game is constantly telling you where to go and who to talk to.

    · Lack of INNOVATION. Fallout 4 re-use the same creatures and enemies as in FO3. The world design is more or less the same as well. It's as if this is forcibly put into the game to make it LOOK like Fallout. But in the end it's a post-apocalyptic gallery with content from Fallout crammed into the mix. The mission design is outright horrible. All missions in the game can more or less be summarized as such: (1) Retrieve someone or something or (2) Kill someone. Then you ALWAYS have to shoot your way though hordes of enemies to complete the task. What's then the POINT with roleplaying??? There is no roleplay. The only SKILL that really is valuable in Fallout from a role-playing point of view is shooting. Worse than that the game forces you to do so. This also means that there is no surprise elements. You always know what the next mission is or what's behind the next corner.

    There is more to say about the good and the bad - but what I already have said summarize it. In the end Fallout 4 is downgraded from previous titles and the game lacks innovation. I will NOT buy the next Fallout game if it is like this.    … Expand

    Its like the girl who looks amazing from 20m away but when you get close you see zits on her chest, waxy ears, hairy armpits, acne around her mouth and forehead and has missing teeth.
    I went there, more than once and I'm ashamed and let down.

The only way to correct it was go into the options, turn subtitles off, go back to the game, than back to options to turn them back on. Very frustrating. The hit detection on enemies while aiming down the sites is terrible. Very often, buy aim site will be right on the enemy, but the shot doesn't hit. Frankly, a game like Saints Row has more depth and a better story, which is kind of sad. At least in that game, the story progresses logically toward my end goal. I only gave it a 3 because I liked the in game music, and being able to create a neat character of my own. Will be selling/trading In right away before the price goes down.… Expand

    Bethesda has learned nothing and has not improved the fallout experience. If anything they have regressed. Fallout is no longer the RPG of days past. This game just leaves you wondering what Bethesda has been doing the past 5 years, It certainly was not creating a new game engine, nor was it spent improving the series.

    Fallout 4 is a monumental step backward for Bethesda. Cons:    Bethesda has learned nothing and has not improved the fallout experience. If anything they have regressed.     Poor frame rate in areas.
    No SLI support.
    Corrupted saves.
    Graphical glitches.
    The "choose your own dialogue" has been overly simplified.
    Your companion will pick random stuff up out of the environment with out being asked to.
    Can't move the HUD down.
    Settlement feature
    Load times, if you put your games on HDDs be prepared to wait, almost as long as middle earth takes to load.

    Pros:
    Fallout story line extended.
    You can build a fort?
    You get a dog early on.
    You can't really tell any graphical improvements between the games.
    you have a companion so its sorta like fallout 3 with the super mutant.
    You can't move the HUD but you can make it opaque.
    Electric bill and computer room temps are super low thanks to lack of sli support.

    Computer: 4790k 16gb RAM two 780 SC's w10 SSD and HDD.

    TL;DR: Skip buying new wait for it to go on sale on steam, Or better yet buy the Witcher 3 and enjoy a game the developers are actually passionate about.    … Expand

Wow after all of the HYPE this is a major DISAPPOINTMENT to say the least and the main one being the VERY POOR GRAPHICS which are so so so NOT UP TO NEXT GEN STANDARDS and than there's the STORY, Oh hang on, WHAT STORY??? BETHESDA HAS LOST THE PLOT SINCE THE BRILLIANT SKYRIM and folks be warned, if your like me and you bought a NEXT GEN consoleI will be short and brief SADLY !!!     I'm a huge fan of Fallout and have played them all, but this is just another crap release,
    as we see in the game industry in general. Assassin's Creed Syndicate is the same, to take one example.

Sure, the Pc-version runs a lot better as usual for a Bethesda game, but this not mean the console versions do not deserve any attention.

    Now the game itself is pretty good. If you enjoyed Fallout 3 you will most    Fallout 4 is from a technical perspective a massive disappointment.     It's a generally clunky game, while the AI of both enemies and companions is a joke. "Hey we got some cover right there, but let's not use it and instead run straight at the enemy that just has mowed down my four buddies!" The story is weak, the characters one-dimensional and the dialogues are down right cringeworthy. And the whole conversation wheel is just dumb. The graphics are improved from previous Bethesda titles, but is still several years behind even when you take into the account the large environments. Witcher 3 has vastly superior graphics, for instance.

    The gun play is better than FO 3, but still clunky and uninspiring and still not on the level of your average first/third person shooter. The whole construction bit just feels pasted on and not really part of the game. The fact that all the game-play mechanics that New Vegas added and improved over FO3 have been removed, is just stupid. No one forced you to play hardcore mode in FNV, but the option was there for those who wished it.

    The world is basically the game's strongest aspect, and it ranges from somewhat interesting to dull. Many locations are nothing but enemy spawn-points with loot. Sometimes there is some sort of story or background attached to a location, but often it just feels like a waste of time to explore them. I like many of the power armor mechanics in the game, but Bethesda made the armor itself so easy to get and so prevalent in the world, that it didn't feel like anything special in the end.

    So all in all, I'm not at all impressed. I regret my purchase.    … Expand

When the game does manage to streamline the experience, it ends up dumbing the mechanics down to the point where they aren't fun anymore.

    First; the    One of the biggest disappointments in gaming I've seen in a while. When the game does manage to streamline the experience, it ends up dumbing the mechanics down to the point where they aren't fun anymore.

    First; the good. The gun-play is improved from previous games. The enemies are very fast and aggressive and the guns don't have perfect accuracy, which is a great incentive to use VATS despite the weapon handling being vastly improved. The character creator is also fantastic. You have a solid amount of control and sculpting the face rather than using sliders was very inspired and makes creating a character a blast, although, I feel like it's hard to make any face that deviates too much from the default model you have; despite this, it's still a great addition to the game. The settlement building gives purpose to picking up junk, and it can be interesting to see some of the most useless items end up having a legitimate use later on. The way radiation chips down your max health was another great subtle touch, making radiation a legitimate concern unlike Fallout 3.

    Now the bad. The opening of the game sets the tone for the rest of the game as far as story-telling goes. It's rushed, it lacks personality, it's generic, shallow, and it fails to establish even the smallest emotional connection to any of the characters or the universe. For whatever reason, we're supposed to care about this ensemble of characters despite knowing nothing about their backstories or personalities. These aren't characters, they're character models spouting out exposition. Once tragedy strikes and your main character gets out of the vault he seems remarkably unaffected by what has happened. When you explain you're over 200 years old, the other characters are also unaffected. The dialogue is simply there to progress the bare bones plot and lacks any personality or character. I couldn't tell you anything about the main cast of characters aside from the fact that they send me on incredibly basic "clear the area" and "pick up the item" quests. I have a massive excess of caps already, and I have nothing to spend them on. The settlement mechanic would be good, but assigning members to certain tasks is beyond un-intuitive and is a complete hassle. Rather than having a list of members in the settlement and a list of things to assign them to you have to walk up to one and walk back to what needs assigning. This would be monotonous if the settlements were small, but they generally aren't, making them beyond monotonous. The first buddy you come across, meatdog, is a stimpack guzzling moron that runs into combat only to immediately get knocked down. The friendly AI is way too aggressive, and they rarely ever follow the limited commands you can give properly. The way charisma works is awful. IT's not intuitive, it makes no sense gameplay wise or logically in the context of the universe, and it is very obviously inferior to what was previously in place. The new dialogue wheel is bad, but it suits the writing well since all of your responses are very generic yes or no replies or cringe worthy jokes/sarcasm. Rather than having your character be a blank slate for you to *role play* as, you play a set character, and he/she couldn't be more boring if he/she tried. So much emphasis was put on humanizing your character, with fully acted dialogue and an attempted personal story, only to provide one of the most boring/shallow experiences I've had in a long time. To say this voice acting wasn't utilized well would be an understatement. If anything, there's more of a reason for the dialogue to just be text in this game considering how boring all of your responses are. As for the technical side, this game is loaded to the brim with bugs which is absolutely unacceptable. Warping around rooms for no reason, grenade indicators pointing the opposite way, enemies shooting into the sky after being hit, bad AI, bad graphics, you name some sort of technical issue and this game has it; It's a buggy mess. It seems animations are missing as well, such as an animation for holstering your gun.

    I don't like throwing this word around, but I honestly think Fallout 4 is simply unfinished. There are mechanics that make no sense, it's way too dumbed down, and there's no way any QA department approved of the game in this current state; the graphics are bad, the animations are stiff, the gameplay is boring, the writing is mediocre at best, and the world is not interesting. Fallout 4 is the most disappointing game I've played in a very long time, but at least Bethesda made it very clear to me very quickly that i shouldn't buy their games anymore; rather than giving this game any redeeming value and making me stick around for the next one, I know to just give up now before wasting any more of my time or money.    … Expand

You will not feel the misery of a lonely wanderer on the radiated dessert, You will not enjoy complex world, solve puzzles and dive into post nuclear abyss, because there is no abyss at all.    Well, this game is nice... You can vary your guns, collect, recycle, built, defend your camps, attack to take place and start new settlements, a lot of stuff.

    Plastic dialogs, poor voice acting and system of interaction with other characters repels me from digging in. And the plot so weak that i think if maybe developers instead of wasting 15-30 on creating storyline give us more furniture to make our base even more comfy I would give this game better score.
    Character seems not thrilled about loss of his wife, child and sleeping 200 years in ice cube, so how can I be? How come this game is called Fallout?

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall I am somewhat disappointed in this game. There are many glaringly blatant issues that prevent it from being what they claim it is. First off the new conversation system is dumb. In every conversation you are given the same 4 options, yes, no, I dont know, or f--- you. Thats not choosing my destiny thats the same 4 cruddy choices over and over again. This really is a problem in the main story because no matter what you choose the game wont pick what side you are on until a big pop up box opens up and says "if you go here you will be against so and so" so the dialogue you chose has no importance whatsoever on the game outcome. Furthermore the story is BAD. It copies many elements directly from the old games. They jammed in liberty prime randomly to make a connection to fallout 3. The also randomly jammed in Dr Madison Li from fallout 3 and your character randomly starts asking about her and the brother hood oh steel guy knows your interested in her for some reason when you should not know her at all. Another problem with the story is the main saying "war never changes". After hearing it 50 times it gets really old. You cant start every game with it and end every game with it. It doesn't fit. At the end of the game there is no war so its randomly jammed in. In general the story and characters have no depth. As other people say the FPS dips under 30 at many points and the graphics are about the fallout 3-new vegas level. Also as many people have said there are MANY game breaking bugs. Some of them break the main story. One example is if your sided with the brotherhood and kill your son and all the people in the institute. Then not only is the institute still alive even if you kill all the people, but then when you teleport back the quest line picks up with the minutemen for no reason. Also there are even spelling issues in the dialogue, randomly floating objects, the fact you cant speak to 95% of people in the game like you used to be able to(they just say a generic statement and walk away). The fact that I have beaten the main campaign and there is only 1 real town compared to NV and FO3 that had plenty of settlements. The fact there is really only 1 radio station with a announcer that sucks. The fact that there are only like 10 radio songs and like 7 of them are from the old games. The fact the companions are awful and always get in the way(especially the dog in the beginning). The fact that you get power armor from day 1 and its not treated as a normal item so you always have to get in and out of power armor to do anything. This game overall feels rushed, lacking, and not improved upon. The new VATS system is pure junk. Third person is bad in normal use, but since the new weapon sighs are so bad I find myself switching to third person in combat just to get the dot in the center of the screen to aim at so I can see what I am shooting(never used to be a problem). They directly took the fallout 3 give the people water scenario and turned it into give us power instead. 90% of the story is very predictable, and there are many important topics that never get addressed again. For one thing everyone complains how the institute takes people, kills people, and replaces them with synths. Then you get into the institute and they are peaceful and it is never mentioned again. The three main factions that duke it out (brotherhood railroad and institute) all have very short cited goals that are BAD. You either pick to go with the railroad who wants to kill the brotherhood of steel and the institute because they want to save ALL synths above peoples live (STUPID), the brotherhood of steel who wants to kill ALL synths an they want to kill the railroad and institute just because they dont trust anyone (STUPID), or the institute who want to kill the others just because they could be threatened (STUPID). Another problem is how the SPECIAL system is different and they dont tell you it changed before they make you stick with it. I put all my points into intelligence thinking I was going to be able to raise my skills fast like in the old games. Big mistake. Furthermore the new settlement crafting system is pure JUNK also. Its like minecraft randomly jammed into fallout. It doesn't fit and the game engine doesn't seem designed for it. The main story easily breaks because of it. In one part of the main story when you have to construct the teleporter using the crafting system if you dont have everything lined up right you cant continue the story. Plus the game literally has to make you build all the stuff on the same electrical grid in a weird way BECAUSE BETHESDA DIDN'T FIX THE BUGS. They literally have a charactuer that says "build all the stuff on the same power grid becuase we didn't know how to code this part into the game right" well thats pretty much what they said :P . Overall dissapointing but it still did offer many hours of fun. I hope bethesda gives me my moneys worth from the season pass. bug fix to come?… Expand

    First a couple things, I'm only like 20 hours in, and I do intend to buy this game for the PC as well, once I've built my new PC.

    Alright. This game. This is the game that caused me to make a metacritic account. This is also the game that is making me break my personal rule about ranting on the internet. Lets start with the good shall we? - Fully Voiced Protagonist. I actually like    First a couple things, I'm only like 20 hours in, and I do intend to buy this game for the PC as well, once I've built my new PC.

    Alright. This game. This is the game that caused me to make a metacritic account. This is also the game that is making me break my personal rule about ranting on the internet.

    Lets start with the good shall we?
    - Fully Voiced Protagonist. I actually like this one, it upsets me a little because it limits modders, but for the most part having a fully voiced protagonist is pretty rad. I just wish Ron Perlman had done it all.
    -Walking away from conversations. Bethesda get a gold star for this.
    -Crafting, it serves a purpose, and it has lead me to some pretty entertaining self-made scavenger hunts.
    -Gunplay. It's a lot better than it used to be. Still not quite at the level of other games, but it's fun and continues to be fun. Can't ask for more than that. Weapon sounds do kinda suck though, combat lack impact because of this.
    -VATS. It's fun, it's useful to have, it isn't overpowered. This is a big improvement, I wouldn't change VATS at all, even the critical meter is good, it adds tension, I save it up for bosses, and then build it back up by shooting their minions while dodging said bosses. It's good.
    -Settlement Building. It's fun, i'm going to mention it again on the bad side, but hell, at least it's there, and reasonably good.
    -Companions. They are now actually likeable, even loveable. I swear these looks and personalities came out of a waifu generator. Good job.
    -Pretty graphics. I'm not in the crowd of people that desires ultimate fidelity everything. I like the graphics, they fit well with the world.
    -Power armour. Going to mention this on the bad side too, it feels powerful, the upgrading is awesome.

    There are other good things about this game, but I'm getting mindful of the letter limit.

    The bad things it is then.
    -No skills. I can't imagine how this decision got made. Agonising over skillpoints and character builds is a Fallout staple. Heck, it's an RPG staple.
    -Perk Variety. There aren't enough of these. The multiple ranks thing is good, the SPECIAL requirements are good. There just need to be more.
    -Upgrading SPECIAL. This is wrong, it stops me from agonising over character builds. SPECIAL upgrades need to be bobblehead, or one time perk only.
    -No level cap. This magnifies all the problems with no skills, perk variety and SPECIAL upgrades. It is impossible to care about character builds when any character can level up to be an everyman, expert at everything. It also hurts replayability, I have so many characters in other Fallout games. With good reason.
    -AI. It's still Bethesda, the AI is still dumb. I was expecting this, and to be honest I'm not that mad about it. Enemies still either shoot from cover, or run straight at you. Pathfinding in an open world game is still hard to do, and therefore still sucks. Companions still get in the way all the time. I'm not asking for the world here, just some variety in enemy strategies. Read a basic text on squad level combat strategy, then implement some basic manoeuvres.
    -Variety. Yep, variety as a whole. It's a colourful game now, but still too brown. I'm not finding the weird weirdness that I expect from a fallout game.
    -Legendary Enemies. I don't like this, I don't like this at all, especially when it suddenly applies to nuisance enemies, like dogs. Named enemies with their own little forts and dungeons are the way to go.
    -Settlement building. The UI is awful. The size limit is massively disappointing, it is very poorly tutorialised.
    -Fusion Cores. They drain too quickly, even with perks. I like to play these games without fast travel, with these fusion cores, I'm forced to choose between playing the game the way I want to, or Power Armour. I like that they exist, I just wish they lasted like, a lot longer. Ingame days, when you consider their current rarity.I think the better way would be to power the armour off of MF cells, 10 MF cells for one current size length of time. Need to playtest that when I get my PC.
    -Too much killing. Every quest in this game seems to be about killing things, either for it's own sake, or as an obstacle to fetching something. We need more variety than this, perhaps even a different approach. Like talking. Give diplomacy a chance.
    -Conversation wheel. This does not work, it has never worked in any game that wasn't Mass Effect. Every time my character says something I didn't intend, I hate him more. That's not what should be happening here.
    -Challenge. The only challenge is to be found in fighting, where are the epic non-quested scavenger hunts, cerebral puzzles, and other interesting pursuits that add flavour to a fallout game. I want to spent hours researching the location of a technical macguffin, working it all out myself, and going to get it.

    If it wasn't a Fallout game, I'd give this thing a nice solid 7, but it is a Fallout game. That's a big responsibility. Mods will fix it on PC.    … Expand

    One small detail I haven't seen anyone mention yet is that Bethesda has chosen to simply re-use non human enemy types totally ignoring what would realistically be present in the area the game is set in. A quick google search lets you know what animals are around in Boston and bears, scorpions and crabs do not feature on that list. It does seem as though Bethesda are just resigned to including what people assume is 'Fallout-y' in the same way that Final Fantasy games just HAVE to include a Chocobo or Pokemon has to include Pikachu. I just find this to be lazy design. Obviously my main gripe is that I feel that Bethesda has lost touch with what Fallout's core engagement was for many people. Fallout was a franchise I turned to to totally lose myself in another world with different rules and something which kept me constantly returning was the ability to solve issues in whatever manner I wanted in accordance with the character I was playing. It seems to me that the inclusion of a radial conversation wheel -although necessary for the voice acting as they would have been unable to pay someone to speak every line of dialogue in Fallout 3 or New Vegas- takes away many opportunities to fully role play as the character you create. I have been told by a friend that Fallout is a competent, or even great shooter. However, I never went to Fallout games for shooting mechanics. I grudgingly tolerated the shooting, preferring to use high intelligence and charisma to deal with situations if possible and snipe from afar if that turned out to be impossible for whatever reason. But the thing is, that was perfectly viable in New Vegas and to an extent in Fallout 3 also. When I think about what I was most excited by when hearing there was to be a new Fallout game, voice acting and shooter mechanics didn't enter into my mind at all. What I thought of was a rich organic game world with interesting places to visit, hundreds of side quests with memorable characters and the ability to replay the game over and over again as whichever character I fancied being. I looked forward to being both a paragon and a cannibalistic mass murderer with equal fervor and hearing what everyone is saying here it seems that my excitement was misplaced. I think the reason this is so low a score is I know in my head what this game could have been and I mourn for that game. The only thing I can say I am happy about it that the game was announced so close to release, if the hype had been any more I feel I would be even more disappointed and angry than I am. The world did not need any more competent shooters. We already have games where you shoot things, we already have games where you shoot things in a big open world. This is a game that didn't need to exist and to drag the name of Fallout in the mud at the same time. I just see it as insulting to the collective intelligence of those of us who play games. I will likely watch this on a stream or in installments on a youtube channel but I will be watching it for the personalities and reactions of the people playing, my excitement for this game itself is totally gone. Additionally, the amount of preorder **** that was shoved down our throats has left a sour taste in my mouth. Make a good game Bethesda and people will buy it on release day. You've proven you know how to make amazing games. Skyrim was amazing, the Fallout entries up to this point have been amazing. Don't go backwards.    … Expand

    Fallout 4 is good at one thing, and that is breaking the 4th wall over and over again. This game simply won't let you engulf in the post-apocalyptic experience without being interupted by an extended loading screen or bugs that reminds you that you are simply playing a game. After a while, I lost    Bugs incoming! Prepare for small bugs, graphical glitches and game breaking blockers.

    Fallout 4 is good at one thing, and that is breaking the 4th wall over and over again. This game simply won't let you engulf in the post-apocalyptic experience without being interupted by an extended loading screen or bugs that reminds you that you are simply playing a game.

    After a while, I lost confidence in the game as I was always expecting things to break. I've been forced to reload old saves in order to avoid critical game breaks, resulting in me losing hours of game play and forcing me to backtrack character progress and story missions + conversations. It is as fun as it sounds.
    I understand that on PC there are workarounds available (where you can use various console commands to skip missions or scripts) but playing on console, you are basically stuck.

    Looking at what Bethesda has planned for us, you get Fallout 3 with improved graphics and a non-interesting story that fails to motivate you. You will most likely get lost in a myriad of side quests that are even more boring. The characters you encounter are somewhat charming and has strong personalities, but fail to stick to your mind. I have better memories of Mass Effect 1 followers and that was how many years ago?

    The news are a crafting system that will force you to collect junk, speedtravel back to base, drop junk, collect junk. Rince and repeat, over and over again.
    There is also an level editor where you can build houses and defences. This editor is no exception to the poor design which the game reeks of. Anyone that have used any level editor (Unreal, Hammer) will probably rip their hair trying to control this mess included in Fallout 4. Seriously, a first person build editor? WTF. At least make the walls snap in a favourable way, please.

    I am a huge fan of the Fallout universe. There was a time when I wanted a Brotherhood of Steel tattoo... but time has passed, and by playing Fallout 4 I am happy I didn't have BoS logo carved on my skin, because now I would regret it badly.

    For me Fallout 1&2 is THE FALLOUT. I know time has passed and things have changed, but Fallout 4 didn't live up to its expectations, by far. Also,    I am a huge fan of the Fallout universe.     Fallout 4 is not an RPG. It is an FPS with extended character features, and additional base-build simulation. If it was an RPG, I would feel at least a little sympathy with my character, the choices it makes, and the cause it fights for. FO4 does not give you the occasion, because the story itself is nearly similar as FO3: child got kidnapped, family reunion, make a better tomorrow blah blah blah.... I am sick of this positive feels **** And with the side-quests and all you still cannot bury yourself with the history and lore, that a proper RPG would offer, because the game lacks conversations. The lore and history is shallow as a grave in the desert near Vegas. To sum the gameplay up: you go somewhere, kill badguys, go back, get xp, and after a while you get to the end. After 4 hours I came to a point that I dont care about my kid and lets go adventuring, but adventuring is not as fun as it should be. It is the same as FO3. Can you not think about adding something to that? Dear Bethesda: How could you trash out those awesome and long conversations and funny stories FO2 had to offer, how could this decision pass the board considering this would be a RPG?!
    Make less story, make more additional content? Like for example, scavenge all the stuff you come across and make more stuff you get from a lot of stuff? I felt like a crazy homeless guy killing raiders while looting coffee mugs, typewriters instead of weapons and armor! WTF?! NO! I dont want to build a settlement, I want the environment to change itself according to my actions I do in the wasteland! It is 2015 forchristssake! I spent at least 2hours per day scrapping and calculating free room in my backpack. Weapon addons are also a chore. Althoug enemies with the worst guns can still gun you down without significant effort, you with the upgraded gun, simply cannot aim that well, so as an FPS the game fails to deliver.
    Character development is also dumbed down to a level that it is more like a cabaret than a serious commitment.
    Graphics: This is better be a joke. Close to no shadows, low res environments, landscapevisual range drawing and character/house modeling resembles games from 2010. This game was developed since 2009. By comparison Destiny had a completely new graphics engine and a whole new world to develop from scratch and during a same pariod. PS4 gameplay show stuttering,, models are caught in the environment, AI hears my footsteps between levels and tries to shoot mee through the wall, but it kills itself instead with a molotov coctail...(AI is close to non-existent, these are the dumbest enemies ever).
    And I could go on and on and on what is wrong with the game. I was playing it just because I didn't believe that it could be this bad, but sadly it is.

    I feel myself cheated, as a Fallout fan. This game should not be called Fallout, but something else, that I cannot link to this marvelous franchise. For the younger generation, who have no idea about a real storytelling and have no experience or whatsoever regarding Fallout, this should be an average game. I am really hoping that Bethesda comes to its senses and realizes that this is not the way a post-apocalyptic RPG should be like.
    The only thing FO4 can do to make me feel happy, is that if I sell it.

    As a last thought, I am just curious that why did Bethesda alter the gametype this much? Because of financial reasons? Because simpler games sell better? Because people dont want to be lost in a sandbox? Because people want instant fun, rather than a longer plot to unwrap itself? Because single player games dont sell that good?     Do not recommend. Not enough replay value compared to previous Bethesda titles. I finished very quickly whereas in previous titles I've played 1,000's of hours without ever finishing the main quests.

There is now only one build, and that is a combat oriented one. It honestly feels more like a poorly made clone falling somewhere between the mass effect and borderlands series. This is not a good thing. Stay far away unless all you are interested in is shooting things and looting locations.     Some things were added that i personally thought were improvements. Mainly the combat and upgrades to weapons and armor were hugely improved, also the graphics and over all fluidity of the game were better. But that is where the improvements end.

    For starters "survival mode" is crap. They took away all of the cool elements of New Vegas hardcore mode and turned everything into bullet sponges. There is zero incentive to play this game on harder difficulties.

    Replay value is pretty much nothing. All side quests are one sided with no real consequences for siding with anyone. Also main quest line is boring to replay. The lack of original quests outside the main storyline is unbelievable and possible the lowest amount ever included in fallout history

    Writing is by far the worst part. With the exception of the quests in Diamond City this game has abysmal writing and dialogue options. By far the biggest disappointment from this game compared to Fallout NV and Fallout 2, which arguably have some of the best writing in any video game.

    Settlements are the last nail in the coffin. Turning it into repetitive minecraftesque garbage.

    If New Vegas was your favorite fallout game, you will not like this game after the initial run through. It is not worth paying 60 dollars for. Go buy bloodborne, its cheaper and a way better game. This game has more in common with borderlands than previous games in the series. Bethesda, stop pandering to the lowest common denominator of games. Stop dumbing down your games. Give Fallout back to Obsidian because they are the only ones who can get it right.    … Expand

    Within the first hour, I knew something was wrong, from the absence of Ron Pearlman on narration (his part is nothing more than a News reporter who has nothing of importance to say) and the rushed opening, this game doesn't take a rest for you to allow to enjoy the moment.
    Which is really sad, we've not had a Fallout game set before the War. Instead, this prologue is shoved to the side, mostly because it was viable to build hype around the game by saying you can play the pre-war events.
    Shortly after waking up, we get some time to breath and explore the damage that the bombs had done.
    But straight away, we are thrown into a short battle where we get Power Armour and fight a Deathclaw.

    The story remains uninteresting, with most of it being a rehash of the previous game (F3, which already had ideas taken directly from the previous two games), lore-breaking details such as the Kid in a Fridge Quest and the idea of Jet being a pre-war drug.

    Not only that, but the dialogue system is a dumbed down, stripped of any complexity and pretty moronic with a voiced protagonist whom feels out of place in the series.
    On top of the broken settlement building mechanics, bullet sponging enemies, completely insulting ending and a reuse of radio songs from Fallout 3, and we get one of the biggest problems plaguing the Industry today.

    The only good things about this game I can say is that the combat is a lot smoother and the Power Armour customisation is a nice touch.
    Other than that, this game is completely useless.

    This doesn't even qualify as an RPG let alone a Fallout game.
    The game is ripped off from ideas from Fallout 3, the DLC is ripped off from both Modders and Fallout 3 DLC and yet Bethesda have the audacity to charge full price for this game and claim they spent 7 years working on it.
    This is one of the biggest insults I've ever had the displeasure of playing and is one of the ugliest releases from the past few years.
    I expect this type of crap from EA, but Bethesda, the Company which many regard as being the saviours of the AAA market? No, I find this release completely disgusting.

    Around the start of the game it's kind of amusing and cute, these funny little bugs happening. And then it stops being cute entirely when you're an hour and a half deep into a mission - one that you couldn't save in that entire time because survival mode is just tacked on and badly designed - and the game crashes. If this had only happened once, I could get over it. After about 15 crashes and 10+ hours of game play lost, I just have no desire to play this game at all.

    Next, the settlements. Wow, what can I say about these half coded pieces of tepid garbage. To sum it up - a fantastic concept that apparently never made it past the alpha stage of testing and then was included in the final release. And then, you know, release 3 DLCs for it despite the fact that the core mechanics of the settlements simply do not work. I am not exaggerating. They do not work. Have fun spending 10 hours building a magnificent castle that your buggy settlers will not be able to navigate or use. Oh, and by the way the more you build in your settlements the more your game will crash. YAY! FUN! **SONY ACTUALLY REFUNDED MY MONEY FOR THE FALLOUT 4 WORKSHOP DLCS BECAUSE THEY ARE SO BUGGY AND NON FUNCTIONAL. THEY LITERALLY NEVER EVER EVER REFUND PURCHASES IF YOU DIDNT KNOW. THATS HOW BAD IT IS.**

    And that's not even getting into buggy companion quests, buggy vertiberds, a REALLY lame and shallow weapon + armor system (that is made even more lame by the fact all armor you find is useless because youll only ever use power armor 100% of the time), complete removal of the dialogue and choice system (you can either say 'yes' in a nice way, or in a mean way. wow. much rpg.), and the horrible building interface for settlements that have no point to exist other than bolster your already infinite piles of cash.

    This was my first Fallout game, and I really didn't like it. This game is really boring a lot of the time and depressing. I don't like any of the weapons in this game at all and the thirdperson perspective is really choppy and bad. There's really no story in this game and there isn't much character customization either. I really don't like this game.

    Story - 5
    The mainline and faction stories are bland and are just used as a means to transport the player across the map. The endings especially, leave you feeling unfulfilled and do not have the pay-off that is required from an RPG. The good news is that it is quite short. The side stories are very intriguing and do pull the score up but the frequency is not there with only around 4 non-story quests that truly immersed me in the world.

    Audio - 3
    The music is lackluster with ambiance preferred to musical storytelling with great opportunities to enhance the on screen story missed entirely. There are also very, very few tracks for an RPG. The sound design is also not good, with nearly all sounds taking away from the immersion. Frequent audio glitches are also present (roughly once per hour). This game would benefit massively from investing a lot more in the audio department.

    Graphics - 5
    For the time it was released it is insufficient, but since the game is quite large I can't complain.

    Gameplay - 0
    It hasn't been play-tested. During my 160 hours with the game there were 6 times losing over 5 hours progress due to quest bugs (e.g. Danse not speaking, Ballistic Weave bug, Characters dying automatically before being able to speak to them etc). A lot of quests and end-game materials were also bugged away from me as they were unable to be completed. Overall, a mess, I stopped playing for several weeks at a time because of this.

    RPG mechanics - 3
    No depth. The skill trees are basic with no real tactical different caused after playing for a while (after discovering the map). The perks are mediocre and the leveling system could in fact be completely replaced by companion perks and magazines in my view. I am a grinder, but left with no investment in the systems. In terms of communication trees, they do redeem some points for giving the impression of choice, but there isn't really much there. Giving the character a voice also really retracts from role-playing.

    World Building/Sidequests - 2 (but could have been a 7)
    Without bugs, this is a solid 7/10. There is lots to do, lots to see all quite fulfilling. They could do with some more scripted set pieces though. With bugs, you will need a guide to navigate you through the quests to avoid breaking the game. I ended up with 9 FAILED quests caused by completing the main story line because they couldn't be completed as I didn't have a previous save to return to. Be careful, this happened when I was using a guide to avoid the most serious ones.

    Content/Completionist rating - 1
    There's lots of it, but a real lack of care is on show in the logic and assets. 160 hours, Level 81 (all perks etc), it has enough to keep you going for weeks. But you have to really persevere to get that far. I am a compulsive completionist that completes games once I've started them, I could not have finished the story if I didn't have the compulsion. WARNING: There are a lot of repeatable and tedious tasks that are asked of you that add no value to the game outside of doing them once (except for companion affinity). IT IS NOT WORTH COMPLETING THIS GAME. I became so angry and disillusioned with the whole process, it is one of the worst games I've completed for the bugs.

    Overall - 3 (rounded up)
    If you like games for story, graphics, music or game play, don't buy this game. For World Building, it does do a quite decent job, if only because of the amount of lore and content it throws at you, so to each their own (I didn't think it was good). If you want an RPG with guns, this isn't it. I would not recommend this game.    … Expand

The dialogue being the biggest offender for me, as your character having a voice completely disconnects you from being immersed in the world, and significantly shortens the amount of response options during conversations with NPCs.

    This barely feels like an RPG, if at all, and feels more like an open world First Person Shooter, with minor, beginner RPG elements thrown in. Overall it just feels like a massive step backwards for the franchise, and it makes me concerned for Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda needs to stick to what works, and make minor tweaks and changes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Though the game is often severely broken too, so I guess I can't even say that.

    Get rid of the freaking crafting! Good lord it's annoying. Stopping a quest every two seconds to gather resources and craft trivial structures that in no way impact your game is so mind-numbing and awful. They've doubled down with the crafting crap in Fallout 76, and look how that turned out. MAKE CRAFTING AN OPTION, NOT A REQUIREMENT. In Skyrim they got it right with Hearthstone. An OPTIONAL DLC, that made crafting fun and easy, and actually had a purpose! To store and display your stuff, with some minor mini-events/quests thrown in to boot. The crafting for me is the fatal flaw of Fallout 4, it really ruined the experience for me.

    There are occasional moments of brilliance, but they're too far and few between to justify ever returning to this game. Play Fallout: New Vegas instead, you'll be glad you did.    … Expand

    Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
