I can't stop playing! Its hard to not appreciate all the work that went into this. My only complaint are the number of bugs (nothing game breaking so far, just minor inconveniences), but I'm sure these will be worked out with future patches.

It's a good, yet ultra repetitive game that I've struggled to pick back up and play for more than 10-15 minutes since originally sinking 30+ hours into at launch. Walk, shoot, loot. Rinse + repeat.

It's not without it's faults, glitches and occasional frustrations, but overall it's a very solid game and if you look closely, you'll notice the incredible amount of detail the developers put into it. I know a lot of people were frustrated that the game was dumbed down in order to become more appealing to casual gamers, and although that is a shame, it's no reason to downrate the game into the negatives, purely based on being let down according to your expectactions. I see some people claim that Fallout 4 is "mediocre", and that is definitely an exaggeration. Expand

Skyrim with guns. I have played every Fallout except New Vegas. I look forward to doing everything in this game.

I do feel that the graphics are not that much better than Skyrim. With games like Bloodborne and Witcher out the bar has been set higher. Bethesda could have done a bit more to improve the looks of the game. The best change to the game is that V.A.T.S no longer stops time.

Lacking features from older games: Fallout: New Vegas has a lot of survival based features such as Hardcore mode, making your own ammo at workbenches, repairing weapons, radiation takes down s.p.e.c.i.a.l points and other effects, crafting special weapons at workbenches, and more.

Environments: Fallout 4 has the best environmental detail of any video game as of today. Hundreds of incredibly detailed locations can be found, Any person who says this game is unfinished or lacking a lot of content are autistic and deserve to stay off this website. This is not a perfect game but it is very very close. Maybe updates or DLC will add the features i was looking forward to this game but this game deserves a solid 10/10. The weapon and settlement building and customization is too big to fit in this review, so ill just stop here.

The story is starts slow but grows in entertainment with some very memorable quests, this is the first Bethesda game in my opinion with an interesting "bad guy" (the Enclave was boring). The endings leave something to be desired with very few alternatives. The side quests are few in number yet most are very interesting and unique. Fallout 4's main strengths however are its world and its game play with a great crafting system, unique enemies, and a variety of cool weapons. The companions in Fallout 4 although not very useful are interesting, some offer some of the best quests and backstory in the game. My one major problem with Fallout 4 is the dialogue system I miss New Vegas with its silent protagonist and multitude of choices in the iconic Fallout style. Bethesda made a huge blunder with a voiced protagonist because each quest requires far more work accounting for the shortage in the main game as of now. If Bethesda had left this feature out perhaps they could have used their time to add in more side factions like in New Vegas where some groups like the Boomers or Khans were not essential for an ending. These down sides did not effect my enjoyment in the game and though I do hope future DLC will give the game a fuller feel I would recommend this game to everyone. Expand

It just lacked a creative element and it lost some of the dark humor you see in the other main stories. Another part of the game I didn't like was the few extremely boring and unrewarding side quest. The plot is standard for a fallout game , you need to go get 'something' which leads you to getting involved in a broader conflict. In fo1 it was the water chip, in FO3 it was your father, in fonv it was the Platinum Chip. Now it is your son.

The plot is rather strong, with 4 factions. 3 of them are interesting, but one of them falls a small bit short , but they are still solid and don't do much to take away from the overall experience, You will find yourself doing all sorts of quests through the ruins of the commonwealth .

The background lore and sidequests are fantastic, on paper there is not THAT much more sidequests than in fo3 , but in reality they are VERY long and exciting. You will often find yourself spending well over an hour in a sidequest. And bringing you to locations packed with great lore that makes sense.

Gameplay is amazing , the gunplay feels like Destiny which in fact they modelled it after. And you now have the ability to sprint which was missing from all 3d fallouts. Enemies are generaly tough but not bullet sponges and there is many different enemy types and subtypes , Such as Super Mutants,Mirelurks,Molerats,Stingwings,Protectrons,Sentry Bots etc. And there is also a solid settlement mode and a solid crafting mode.

The graphics and sound are also VERY VERY good, fallout has never looked as good and certainly not sounded as good. Every weapon has a different sound and changes according to attachment and enemies shrieks are stunning. It's obvious they put a lot of effort in to voice acting and hand and face gestures because this really stands out. The lighting and textures look 'good' , realistically it's not the most beautiful game in the world. But it certainly is one of the most beautiful open world rpg's.

Second, it's Fallout - it's always going to be fun for the people that love Fallout. The things that are nice in 4 is the small push for cooperative play and more customizations to be had in-game (be that a self-made town, weapon, etc.). The opportunities for growth remain the same: the graphics are nowhere near class-leading and there can be some bugs here and there that will irk you a bit. I still adore this game and the franchise as a whole. The Xbox One version comes with Fallout 3 as well (courtesy of backwards compatibility), so there's a much bigger value there for newcomers or those of us that like to retreat history. But for Fallout, the only way to make the game feel bigger/better is continued excellence of storytelling on top of a more immersive world, which is hard to do when you're making sacrifice after sacrifice for graphics. Bethesda really need to retool their graphics engine to really bring these wastelands to life. I mean, I can definitely deal with them as-is, but I think about what could be and I know that there are opportunities to make Fallout a perfect 10 game from nearly every perspective, but it's not quite there yet. The game is absolutely worth buying, though, and I'll probably re-tweak this review once I've spent more time with it and have completed the entire story. Expand

Combat has significantly improved over FO3 and NV, which both felt clunky to me. I was not expecting much in the graphics department per Bethesda's explanation, but I was pleasantly surprised there as well. The weather effects are the best I've seen this generation.

Fallout 4 does streamline the process a bit which seems to have angered a large number of "loyal" fans. I enjoy the direction Bethesda has taken; to me it feels like less janky version of FO3. Please check other websites reviews before buying like Steam which gives this a 9/10

The leveling system has improved drastically, as their is no level cap and the perk system has a new style. In the older games, weapon customization wasn't exactly a huge part of the game, but in Fallout 4, that is one of the main components. The crafting system is easy to use and gives you a sense of individuality when you name your own weapon and make it your own. Building settlements is really fun, but sometimes it can be a little buggy. As for the mood and atmosphere, it replicates Fallout 3's and makes this game have the same classic Bethesda style. With a Bethesda game, bugs are to be expected, but in this game, I have encountered little to none other than some speech glitches and one weird glitch where I launched into the sky and died. I haven't had a single game breaking bug crop up yet in 15 hours of play and aside from a rad scorpion getting tossed into the sky 15 ft when trying to pop out of the ground nothing else too wonky has happened.

Everyone whining about graphics is doing just that they are a big improvement over the other fallout titles and while it might not be "next gen" I'm happy with it. I'd rather have the huge open world that I'm currently playing in then have it look "next gen".

Story hasn't been the biggest draw for me yet but that's cause I'm all kinds of ADD over the side quests. And while I will get on with the story I'm having way too much fun exploring the wastes at this time.

Also the shooting I love the improvements they made to the system using look down sights is standard for any FPS now a days but I feel they implemented it well and it adds a great amount of "Oh hell, oh hell!" as your starting down a tactical sight shooting at Blood bugs trying to drink your blood.

While my score is is personal preference I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys this type of game. And I've had a chance to speak to several co workers who have played and they have been having a blast as well.

    One word: Awesome.

Personally, I found this game amazing. Currently have around 30 hours since release day on November 10th, and I can't be more satisfied. Game continues the motif that war never changes in a good way.

The vast majority of complaints I see here are about graphics, or the dialogue system, or how it is a step backward for the Fallout series, or even performance or bugs. I actually believe this game to be beyond beautiful in terms of substance and graphics.
-The graphics themselves are fine, with good quality textures and a nice theme. I think people like to say the graphics are bad because they see a lot of gray, but in reality that is just a feature that defines the wasteland. For those that feel that the graphics are previous gen, go back and look at Skyrim's and then reassess your life. Besides, if you're playing a game for the graphics, you aren't playing the game for the right reason.
-The dialogue system has at times been annoying, but any complaints I have with it or trivial. For the most part it does its job just as well as the old system Bethesda used in the old Fallout's and Skyrim.
-As for performance related issues and bugs, I don't see where all the hate is coming from. My experience has been great, with my game maintaining a consistent 30 fps in the most intense fire fights. I have noticed minor split second freezes after returning to the Commonwealth from a building or some odd, but never from just wandering the wasteland. From what I've read up on, updating your PS4 system could potentially help with this, or it could be a problem more rooted in the specific model of PS4 you own. As far as bugs go, honestly what did you expect? It's a Bethesda game and it's so massive that its bound to have kinks in it's pipes. Bethesda will have these fixed in no time. (I should note that most of the bugs I have encountered have been small graphical glitches; nothing gamebreaking)

To wrap this up, I would like to mention some things that I found exceptional. Particularly, the atmosphere of the wasteland and how amazing it is. I won't elaborate on it too much as I would encourage you to try it for yourself while just walking around in game, but I can say it does a great job. Finally, the other thing, is that the map size is every bit as big as other titles, such as Skyrim. It may not look large, but it is, and it has every bit as much detail put into it as Skyrim, if not more.

Conclusion: Amazing game. Would recommend to anyone who is willing to sit down and take in a story that requires more than the memory of some less creature to understand.
Result: Proud retainer of said game and will spend many, many, many more hours in it.

Ignore the trolls & haters. How can you give a game 0/10? That means it's literally a broken game. Anyway, this game is perfect. I don't see the problem with graphics. After 20 hours of gameplay I still have not encountered a single bug. I love the dialogue system. The settlement building works really well & the story is amazing!

I really enjoyed Fallout 3 and NV so was looking forward to this game.......I was not disappointed!

I have noticed a lot of complaints about bugs, frame-drops etc but never experienced a single one of either. Never had to re-load a save, never got stuck on terrain and never noticed the framerate dropping. I have to wonder if PC users have been spamming the console reviews or something.

The side/ miscellaneous quests have been interesting so far and the game DOES contain RPG elements, they are just more subtle in this game than they were in fallout 3. The settlement builder is very vast (I think there are upwards of thirty locations you can build, that heard about so far, forgive me if I'm wrong) however if that is something that you don't like then you don't have to do it at all. If you are a fan of the series then you should love this game (unless you actively go out looking for problems with the game/ nitpick). I haven't faced on serious glitches or frame rate issues so I can't comment on that unfortunately. The game is as good if not better than the witcher 3 as Fallout 4 has a game that focuses more on player freedom and exploration, whereas the Witcher 3 focuses on character relationships (which Fallout 4 has improved upon massively as well) and a more story focused RPG. However unlike the Witcher 3 I think I'll be replaying Fallout 4 for many years to come and it's only going to get better as the developers will only making the experience better with free updates and dlc that will be worth paying for, unlike many dlc that is available nowadays. Your character is the only survivor of Vault 111, in Boston (called "the Commonwealth"), after a nuclear holocaust. The new character creator is very powerful and very fun to use. This is one game that, when you picture in your mind what you would like your character to look like, you can actually make it. Even if you are not happy with your design, there are a few opportunities to change it before you get into the main game, and you can get facial reconstruction surgery at any point you like.

The gameplay is comparable to any purely FPS game, and is actually a lot more fun. The crafting system is literally the best crafting system from any game, and using a workshop to build settlements can be considered a game in itself. You can literally spend hours building whatever you like. There are endless possibilities.

The game soundtrack is amongst my favourites. It is tense, powerful and captivating. Even the soundtrack playing at the main menu is beautiful. I just wish you could buy a CD of the soundtrack like you could with the first Mass Effect game.

10/10. Great game. There is always something to do, somewhere to go and something to find. You will never be bored.

Calling it fallout 3,5 does not make the game bad. Honestly, if you loved fallout 3 you will love fallout 4. There are improvements but there are not groundbreaking. The gun play, graphics and animation has all seen improved but it is not the huge improvement many of us expected. One thing I did not like is the dumbing down of the rpgs elements. Like any other other bethesda game lately, it feels like they focus more and more on action/adventure then rpg aspect of their games. The story this time is more intriguing than the last time and some of missions are really cool to play. There is different type of factions you can join and they all have their own quest-line.
The game has few cool added features like crafting your own settlements and moding every weapon. But overall the changes and improvements are so little I cant help to feel a bit disappointed. I expected fallout 4 to be a 10/10 game, the game has so much going for it but in the end I feel like it bethesda played a bit to safe. That is why I rate this game 8/10, it is a great game don't get me wrong. But it won't have the same impact as fallout 3 or skyrim had when they launched. They say it's dumbed down and stats no longer affect convrrsation. This is wrong. People on multiple playthroughs are noticing differences in this regard. It has those stat/skill checks, it just usually doesnt give you a big text block saying "pick dis option using high int lol" So which game is dumbed down again? They say your conversation choices dont matter, but thrre are countless examples of when they do and you could even lock yoyrself out of things but being too mean. I even skipped a whole string of quests because of my high intelligence. Why go find new parts to a ship when you are smart enough to repair the old ones.

As for factions, you have four large ones that are all important to the story. You get tons of endings based on how your various truces play out, or you can take out three and have one reign supreme. Sorry but half the factions in NV had little impact on anything. Id hardly qualify random casinos as a faction..Oh, you could sell chems with the great khans? I have an entire farm I created with my own brahim where I make my own jet and make a fortune doing so. I even got a guy willing to give me nearly double what shops give. I shot up a drug deal, killed the witnesses, tossed their bodies in a river, stole the chems, broke into the place where they were made, looted it all, shot the place up, and had mister sandman visit anyone who accused me. I threw on a BoS suit, they thought I was one of them even though I was with their enemy, and infiltrated them.

The roleplaying is still here, you just gave a backstory and more defined motuves, you know, like every other rpg. Is the Witcher not an rpg because you gave to play as Geralt? Get real. My character is a smooth talking high intelligence woman, who is on the outside appears to ve doing goos, but in reality is a sarcastic asshile violent drug lord rebuilding the Commonwealth on blood and jet.

Let's talk about why I love this game. This is easily the best looking Fallout. While it doesn't compete with The Witcher in that regard, this game is certainly more fun to play. They vastly improved the gunplay, and as simeone who plays tons of shooters, it gets a thumbs up. The world is huge and there is so much to do. The most fun I gave is just wandering about finding new places. Two months later and people are still finding new things. I love the Settlement building as well.

I highly recommend this game. Ignore the ignorant haters who didnt play this and metabombed it took seconds after its release. Its a shame a few ignorant "professional reviewers" listened to that loud minority of gamers and repeated the same ignorance without checking the facts. I remember a certain "angry" reviewer who just jumped on the hate train without checking actual facts or giving a game like this enough time. Funny, but there is nothing angry about this guys reviews, he just **** a ton. I guess rather than making decent reviews some people just want to appeal to their troll fanboys.

There's a good reason why mostly everyone who is anyone plays this game religiously. It's that much fun.

What I think could have been done better is what everyone else has already mentioned: the main story. There is nothing ground breaking about it, nor is it delivered in such a way that you want to relate to or even help the main character. But that's not even one of the main draws of this game. The best part of this game is the main reason everyone should have bought it for. The exploration. That's why Bethesda markets their product as an open world rpg. If it was marketed as a deep story driven emotional experience then yes, everyone should be mad. But don't complain that it doesn't have the story quality of say Chrono Trigger, or Metal Gear.

I won't lie, I am a huge fan of Fallout 3 and since the announcement I've had the count-down clock on my mobile, and I've tried to realistically manage my own expectations as I did fear that they'd ruin a great franchise. So, as you can see I'm giving it a 10 and this is for numerous reasons.

If you are a hardcore Fallout 1 and 2 or Tactics fan, and FO3 was a huge disappointment for you, this is not the game for you.
The game feels like a natural progression from FO3, with most of the structure unchanged and changes that have been made have been done so to make the game more fluent, perhaps in this it's lost a little of it's tactical strategy. For instance, v.a.t.s is still used in the game, but the game no longer freezers still. This means in effect you no longer get to pause the game when in combat and assess each and every enemy and think of your way in or way out of the current scenario. Instead, the enemies continue to pursue or aim/fire at you but in slow-mo, this adds a whole heap of pressure onto your decision making and it will probably see you hip-firing like mad once your AP points are out - but is this a flaw in the game? No, not at all in my opinion. Fallout 4 is hard. Most encounters before reaching level 25 feel like stacked odds against you, and dying becomes a regular event (top tip - quicksave, a lot!)

I read a review (Guardian I think) that mentioned that FO4 feels more like Fallout 3.75 - and I get this. The world itself, although stunning and vibrant, feels like FO3. If you've not seen the comparison screenshots of say Dogmeat from PS3 to PS4, you can see the graphics have been updated 'just enough' to get away with being new gen. While the map is bigger than that in FO3, it is remarkably more vertical (!) and you will find many buildings taller than ten-penny tower, and you will find more caves deeper than FO3 vaults.

As an RPG, the levelling is a lot more straight forward and directly mixes perks with SPECIAL stats. Choosing wisely early on and pre-planning your character goes a long way. To be a jack-of-all-trades doesn't work as your damage will be to low against harder enemies. This means a lot of thought is worth putting in to your development from level 5 onwards!

    It's all about that Base:

Hell yeah. The base building option in FO4 is a great addition. It means you can build an entire town from scratch, if you've the resources. Unlike FO3, everything you pick up can become useful. To be able to scrap anything into its basic form ie wood, steel, ceramics etc; means that scavenging is far more rewarding and becomes a task to perform ritually if you are focused on developing your new town (!). 45hours in, I can honestly say at least 8 hours play was building and scavenging. I really enjoyed this, as occasionally frustrating as it is when fences etc dont snap into place, you can pick it up and remove it so easily you can end up, as I have, with a base looking as good as anything already standing in the world. It's also really fun defending the bases once the raiders come charging in. Remember though, this is totally optional and you don't have to make bases.

I do feel reading reviews on here though (ridiculous to score this game a 3 or below!) and most of the haters seem to have lost what RPG means. As a gamer who's played decades of RPGs, I find this style a joy to play as it has the right mix of action, adventure and exploration that sucks me deeply into the world Bethesda have created. I think people like the ability to freeze the game and play it almost turn-based still like a strategy game, perhaps players that don't like the frantic moments. But evading death has sometimes been the best moments in the game for me, and yes, sometimes I've taken advantage of flawed AI, but I did so in F3 also and I think it's part of using the environment to favour you.

Glitches. Glitches everywhere. One thing I did notice from my first few hours is seeing a graphical glitch is going to be part of the experience, end of. Most of the glitches I've noticed are within chats with NCPs, the most common of which is when you start talking a little to close to someone they lean in and their face disappears. No glitch in 45hrs though as prevented me completing a quest or made an enemy impossible to kill. So, I've overlooked them and just hope they patch them up for the future.

Overall, FO4 offers much the same as FO3. Don't buy if you expect a whole new game, it really isn't - but in my opinion, FO3 is one of the greatest games ever made. Had they took the model and changed it radically, people would complain and hardcore fans would cryout. Instead they built on what they do best, and have offered a potential unlimited experience in FO4. With DLC and future modding being available (and free) for PS4, this game I maybe still playing in 1000hrs+ time.

I don't say it often, but I love this game & perhaps it's nostalgia, but I missed Fallout!

Fallout 4 falls (tee-hee) in line perfectly with Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It offers a deep, deep world filled with interesting characters to meet and buildings to explore.

The people comparing Fallout 4 to Witcher 3 know exactly zero about game design or what it takes to make a world this in-depth. NO ONE makes RPG's like Bethesda, for better or worse. There are literally thousands of items littered throughout the world that you can pick up and interact with. And nearly every single one of those items matter since you can craft weapons, bases, and armor. Bethesda's engine maybe old and broken, but it's kind of incredible that it can keep track of all the intricate things your character can do. Want to collect all the lunchbox's and dead bodies strewn about the waste and store them in your house? You can! Why? Heck if I know! It's just something that's weirdly possible in Fallout/Elder Scroll games.

It's impossible to compare Fallout 4 to other open world RPG's since Fallout (and by extension all of Bethesda's RPG's) is all about exploration. It's about letting you interact with the smallest of objects and experiencing dozens of interesting random encounters. So of course games like the Witcher 3 (which is laser focused) is going to look and run better.

HOWEVER! All that said, I still find it inexcusable to release a game this buggy. Yes, yes I know that we should be used to Bethesda's games being this bad on release, but frankly that's a load of crap. They claim this game was in development for over 4 years...how the hell is it possible to STILL release a game this broken after so many years?!

Finally, I want to address the people that say New Vegas was better and that they wished Obsidian developed this instead. Obsidian is one of my favorite game developers bar-none. They are experts at taking existing properties and just making them BETTER! But you got to take off the rose tinted glasses my friends. Obsidian has always released broken games. Am I the only person here that remembers the release of KotoR II and New Vegas? NV was damn near unplayable on release. It crashed constantly and required multiple patches. And the combat in NV was so much worse. What we're all remembering about New Vegas is the story and the characters. These are the things Obsidian excel at. To say Obsidian could have made a better Fallout 4 is asinine.

After about 50 hours played, and Jeebus knows how many more to go, I think it's safe to say this is my favorite Fallout game. I LOVE the combat, weapon modding, and companions you meet (companions are actually useful for the first time). Still...I wouldn't blame you if you waited a few months for patches to iron out the bugs.

For those complaining about the simplification of the leveling system - it's simplified insomuch as it's easier to understand. It's actually much more complex and allows for much more precise building of character specs. If you've only played for 5-10 hours, you also have no business leaving a review, good, bad, or otherwise. Games like this take time to develop. The story is actually quite good. Taking yourself on side missions help develop the story as a whole (even though they aren't "story related", per se). The factions take time to warm up to you, which actually makes sense because usually groups in the real world don't just bring people in and make the president. Choices you make OVER TIME impact how the game unfolds.

The crafting is a fun side project, the glitches are almost non-existent, especially in 1.03 (though they were never so bad as many people like to portray). I'm chomping at the bit to get to my next game - The Witcher 3 - but I can't put FO4 down. It's incredibly fun, wonderfully large, and extraordinarily varied in it's game play from person to person.

The game is great and all if you don't see it as an RPG Game, because it's an Action with RPG elements, if you want a solid RPG game than sadly this is not it. Go pick-up Fallout 1-3 or New Vegas if you want a real RPG. Overall this is a really good game, it wasn't executed pretty well but it is a good game.

I do not see a huge difference in the quality of the main story line so I do not understand those complaints fully. I love how they made the gunplay better and I do still like VATS is very helpful. Fallout 4 is far more massive and has way more stuff to do (some of it admittedly less interesting) than games like the Witcher 3. That's a trade off and they people have different tastes and interests. I personally found settlement building to be an absolutely wonderful addition to the game. Well here we are, Fallout 4 is finally out to the masses and we've all no doubt spent countless hours creating our character, exploring the world, looking for junk in every single dilapidated building and cupboard, drawer, dead body etc....

So let me start this by saying I have played all of FO3 and FONV as well as Skyrim and many other RPG's both new and old. I've also spent roughly 10 hours in FO4 so far, which is by no means a long time. Especially considering my first 2 hours were spent with the character creation screen and then looting everything in sight upon leaving the vault.

It feels very "familiar". It feels like a prettier version of previous Fallout games, this might be bad to some and good to others. For me it is OKAY. I am not fussed either way, but it does feel a little bit stale to be completely honest.

From a technical perspective the game clearly looks like a last gen re-fresh, don't get me wrong - it can be rather beautiful at times and the game world is lovely fleshed out with detail, but the closer you look the more rubbish you see at times. Some characters are beautifully rendered and animated, then others look like their face is melting and a blind person wrote their animation codes with lip sync and facial animation looking rather horrific. Technically it is not ground breaking nor wonderful, but it is perfectly serviceable and should be a good baseline for future bethesda games.

I will say however that it suffers from catastrophic FPS drops on the PS4, in the first section as you're walking around the vault I experienced somewhere in the region of 15-20fps just by stepping in and out of the chryo-chambers. Then at other times it would just stutter for a second and completely jar you out of the world. Fortunately I have not experienced any crashes or game breaking problems (YET).

On the gameplay and story front, I guess the best I can say is that it feels like every other FO game I have played. Which again to some is good and others will be bad. The customisation options and ability to create/have your own bases to build is great and will appeal to the people out there who love this kind of thing. The storyline and side quests all feel very familiar again, I won't spoil anything for obvious reasons, but it doesn't feel as impactful as the Witcher 3 or even GTA5 to certain extents.

Overall FO4 is a good game, it is not without its flaws and it will appeal to a lot of people. But I cannot help but feel that is is somewhat tarnished by the big bethesda name, in that, most people can see them doing no wrong / the hype surrounding FO4.

I used the word familiar a lot in describing FO4. That is pretty much what I can say about it in a nutshell. It is a familiar game set in a familiar world with a familiar storyline and familiar way of progressing through the world. To me that is OKAY, to others it will be and is cause for annoyance and to some it will be amazing.

What's incredible about this game is the scale both in terms of the world and everything that happens in it. No game I've ever played hangs together quite like this, and say this as a fan of Fallout 3. Sure, the dialogue system is smoke-and-mirrors that falls short of the meaningful impact your chosen words had in the previous game. Yes, the loading times between indoor and outdoor sections are hugely annoying and break the immersion just a little. But otherwise, oh, that immersion - I've been voluntarily trapped in the wastelands for several months now, following every breadcrumb that leads me to a new location or mission, crafting new settlements and making sure all their inhabitants are happy, getting the platinum achievement by finishing all three storylines, wondering which of the three factions I really would have followed in real life.. Fallout 4 is a game like no other which, with better dialogue trees and no loading times, could possibly be my favourite game ever. As long as Bethesda improve on what they have to polish it up and make it even deeper, and don't just make more of the same for the inevitable Fallout 5, then I will continue to be a fan of the Fallout franchise for many years to come. Thank you, Bethesda, for a game whose length justifies the price tag many, many times over. Expand

The settlement thing is a bit of a time sink need to have a decent amount of scrap and copper for wires and auto turrets if I could fortify an encampment to the point raiders wont even try to attack I might actually spend the time building stuff. i wish they had mounts for a quicker means of travel and level progression you cant undo your choices so choose wise. like any other shooter the story is so-so for me its all about being a wasteland badass. Love this game. Great story, interesting progression, fantastic graphics. The building of the huts seemed unnecessary. Also, I would have like to have a "what did i miss" list. Cant wait for the DLCs

The game isnt as bad as people make it out to be and it confuses me a bit because fallout3 was a lot more "barebones" FPS than this game. I am down right BAFFLED that people who only ever played fallout3 are saying this game doesnt meet their standards as fallout3 is still the weakest in the series while still being a solid game.

Also those people who are saying it "doesnt take elements from new vegas" when it in fact takes a lot of combat and gameplay mechanic elements from it that operate in the background.

Also on account of people saying "the characters are horribly written" i strongly disagree, The character Nick is by far the best character bethesda has written IN YEARS.

Fallout 3 was literally barebones, fallout new vegas added on to that experience and made it better.
Fallout 4 isnt a direct upgrade from fallout new vegas but rather a branching path that meets somewhere in the middle. This is a great game with long play time and plenty to do. the 0/10s are trolls who bought into hype culture.

game ranking is F1,F2,FNV,F4 and F3 in last.

I am about 8 hours into the game right now and don’t plan on quitting. It has its hooks in me and I am truly enjoying it but that doesn’t mean there aren’t complaints. As many folks have already stated the graphics are below par, the story is pretty hit or miss, and there are some serious technical bugs. But as a fallout diehard that just makes the game seem more like Fallout. Bethesda never focuses on cutting edge graphics. Instead, it uses resources elsewhere creating amazing environments and worlds that are immersive. The stories have always been hit or miss as well. Fallout veterans will recall Liberty Prime and how ridiculous and incoherent a plot that was but somehow you still look back at it with fondness. The technical errors cannot be as easily excused, but that doesn’t warrant a 0 score.

The crafting system in this game is immense and I have already spent a lot of time building out two settlements and scavenging for fusion cores to power my awesome power armor. In fact I have barely touched the “Story” instead immersing myself in the world and exploring. That’s how you play a Fallout game. If you’re looking for a linear by the book experience then this won’t be the game for you. If you’re looking for state of the art mechanics or graphics this won’t be the game for you. If you are looking for an immersive experience that drags you kicking and screaming into a chaotic and ruthless world then this IS the game for you. That is why I love Fallout and why I find myself spending hours upon hours inside its world despite glaring issues that have lasted for years.

Do not believe the zero score naysayers, this game is awesome. Judging by their reviews, it is quite apparent some that gave a zero or extremely low score don't even own the game and have not played it. I guess some people will always act like children and get thrills out of lies and negativity.

That said, I have played the game on ps4 since midnight... no crashes nor major glitches.

That said, I have played the game on ps4 since midnight... no crashes nor major glitches. The world is huge and wondrous, full of intriguing areas to explore. The combat is improved, smooth and a lot of fun. Those who keep comparing FO4 to Witcher 3 seem off base. I put a tremendous amount of time into W3 and, while that game is beautiful, cinematic, great story and great fun to play, the character movement is wonky and the combat is too loose, imprecise and clunky... love that game but just sayin'...

Highly recommend FO4, there is indeed BANG for your bucks. While not absolutely perfect, it is close enough to warrant a 9.5 score. I'm scoring it a 10 to mitigate the loser lying trolls. Happy gaming!

The characters are interesting, the gameplay is great, and the missions are fun. Bethesda has made it so that you can do missions how you want them, when you want them. You decide how you want your character to play and act, whether it be stealthy, melee only, or run and gun. This game is nonlinear in the most beautiful of ways, giving the player complete control. Each environment is a treat to explore and the player is rewarded heavily for searching every nook and cranny of buildings and areas. Items are scattered about the wasteland, and each has the potential to be useful. With the new building and crafting system, Bethesda has made it so that any single piece of gear, armor, or junk can be broken down into materials that can be used to upgrade guns and armor, or build various items for settlements. Nothing is put to waste. Overall, if you are a fan of exploration story, and adventure, and can give a pass to some bug issues and meh graphics, then Fallout 4 is a great game for you. Expand

While not perfect Fallout 4 is a gripping, sometime stunning and profoundly enjoyable game. It's story (like Fallout 3's and Fallout new Vegas's, and Skyrim's) is lacking in tension due to the player's ability to choose NOT to do the main quest. It is hard to be fair to the game if one attacks it due to its story. Like all Bethesda RPGs the story is teh way in, the player ultimately chooses their own way through the story.

That said in comparison to Skyrim, Fallout 4 lacks something else in this respect. The programmers have been too faithful to the post-apocalyptic setting. So much so that it is hard to feel "at home in" in the same way that one can in Skyrim.

The games graphics are a mixed bag. The scenery is breathtaking, the monsters are horrifying, the armours are excellent (the armor system itself is worthy of a note of its own, see below), but the character's and NPCs' face models and textures are ghastly. Given that the Skyrim modding community has had to fix this and has achieved amazing results I have no doubt the Fallout modders will do the same soon enough. But that said why do they need to? Why is Bethesda choosing to make such poor quality face models?

The game system engine has been upgraded and the changes are great. The new armour system is ingenious and weapon modding is good fun. Settlement building is in my opinion however tedious but YMMV. Playing on the PS4 the graphics are solid, the frame-rate is fairly steady (similar to the Witcher 3, there some fps drops occasionally but not often) and the controls are fairly intuitive. The only serious user interface issue I encounter is its sorting of some important quest items (especially holotapes) into a catchall "MISC" menu where they are inevitably lost. This was a crazy decision by the developers and needs to be fixed.

The lost of points in this review are less about the game itself however than the lack of imagination on Bethesda's part. If you've played Oblivion and Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas you will find this game repeating the same type of quests (fetch item, clear area, rescue loved one, pick a side) played out with little narrative depth, and little variation from the 2006 formula (or 2002 formula if you've played Morrowind).

Unfortunately I can't see myself sinking over a thousand hours into Fallout 4. Like it's sibling titles, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas once finished I wont go back to the wasteland. The success of Skyrim over 4 years ago still over shadows Fallout and the impact of games like Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Solid V on the open world oeuvre has left Bethesda's tried and trusted formula looking a little old and tired, if no less engaging.

Now I’m not saying Fallout 4 is the most perfect game ever created and it shouldn’t be rated down, but all of the negative reviews I have read are the most absurd reviews and ratings.

    Now, onto my review.
Fallout 4 isn’t one of those games you pick up thinking “I’ll just play 30 minutes or so”, you will most definitely be playing more than that. Fallout 4 brings in heaps of new features that I, personally, welcomed in with open arms. Bethesda did a great job in all aspects of the game, however it is missing a little depth with the story line.

    The Quests,
The story was mediocre, it did draw me in and I did enjoy it after completing it, however it did leave me feeling like there should have been more. I have completed all endings and the Brotherhood quest line was undoubtedly the best one out of the lot. I do feel as if the story could have had more detail and depth but where it lacked in the story I do feel as if it shined in the side missions and the little unmarked nicks and knacks that I won’t spoil for those who have yet to find them.

    The Combat,
The Combat is a major step up from that of Fallout 3 and New Vegas. The combat in this feels tense and fluid all whilst being quite difficult at the same time. I play on very hard and at first it was very hard but now the level I am at I feel like I am so strong that It doesn’t matter what is shooting or running towards me, I feel immortal due to my armor, weapons and perks. I’m nothing but a bullet sponge. That is why the addition of the updated Survival mode will be tremendous.

    The Workshop mode,
This is a dream come true. Ever since I picked up Fallout I always thought it would be amazing if I could build my own town with junk and scraps I find and finally, Bethesda delivered. When I first watched their E3 conference and they revealed to everyone the Workshop mode, I jumped up in excitement. But then I starting thinking that they’d only be three locations to build in. Then I jumped into the world of the Commonwealth and I discovered just how many locations there were to build I was filled with excitement and determination to make every location awe-inspiring. I started my mega-structure settlement at Kingspot lighthouse, built from the bottom of the light house to the top, what a sense of achievement I got from completing that. Now I am currently building a town and market place on Spectacle Island. There are however, a few problems with the Workshop mode. Firstly, you can’t place everything Bethesda has in the game that they use to decorate areas and interiors of buildings. Secondly, what is with the snapping and placement of objects sometimes? It really confuses me as to why I cannot place a filing cabinet against the wall. Lastly, the Junk fences, why do they not snap into place? I’ve had to resort to the rug glitch which I should not have to do.

    The Bugs
I am not sure what everyone is saying about “All these bugs make the game unplayable”, because I am not lying when I say this, but I have only encountered two bugs. The first bug I encountered was I was trading with the merchants in Diamond City, when suddenly my Pip-Boy disappeared and I only could see my arm, to fix it I simply pulled my gun out then holstered it and it was fine. The second bug I encounter (still happens sometimes) is when a car or a mini-nuke explodes the texture for the mushroom cloud is still in pixels but quickly fixes itself once I look at it for a second.

    The New Dialog System
I seem to be one of the few that actually likes the dialog system, I enjoyed sitting back and watching the conversations unravel. Not going to lie, I do prefer that of previous Fallouts, but I do think this new feature is really well done. Both performances from Courtenay Taylor and Brian T. Delaney are awesome and deserve a lot of praise.

Fallout 4 welcomed so many new and great features to its game play and story. Although lacking in depth I did find the story to still be interesting. With the new gun-play and workshop content I truly believe Fallout 4 deserves the rating 9/10.

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
