An outstanding world, great crafting system, strong story and characters and more earn Fallout 4 a glowing endorsement.

Fallout 4, lets just say that it is a perfect post-war survival game, because that's what it is. The graphics, the style, the game-play. It's not just that, but the wide variety of mods on PS4 too, it just make the game customized to your liking, making it more and more enjoyable.

After putting in about 50 hours already, I think I'm in a decent position to post a review...

This is a very good game, but it is not an excellent game. Given how much I enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas I was seriously expecting to give this 10/10 but I can't. I can't because many of the changes that this game implemented have taken something away from that quintessential Fallout feel.

    This is a very good game, but it is not an excellent game. Given how much I enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas I was seriously expecting to give this 10/10 but I can't. I can't because many of the changes that this game implemented have taken something away from that quintessential Fallout feel. Let's start with the negatives;

    1) The voiced character is a bad move. It forces a voice on your character that you don't necessarily want. Why would a charisma 10 and charisma 1 character speak in the same way? By forcing a voice on you, it robs you of the chance to imagine something up for yourself. Similarly, the dialogue wheel is a step backwards - what's wrong with wanting to know exactly what my character is going to say!?
    2) The lack of level cap means this game has next to no replay value for me. I can make this one character into a God, there will eventually be nothing he can't do - so where's the motivation to roll a new character with a different focus?
    3) Bugs. Always the bugs.
    4) I don't really like FPS games that much so I was disappointed that the game seemed to demand a fairly high level of skill in such things at some points. Or maybe I just suck or am a wimp - I don't want to kill you!

    Okay, now the good points;
    1) The companions are really interesting characters that I actually care about. I really feel something for Nick in particular. Seeing him evolve over time was super rewarding and I love how the game encourages you to explore all these different stories.
    2) It's still super massive with so much to do. The crafting and settlement building adds to this beautifully.
    3) I've seen a few people upset with the main story, but I thought it was well done. It took me a long time to decide who to side with because none of the factions 'have it all' as it were - it really makes you think about where you are willing to compromise (on a moral level more than anything) and I had the impression that my choice would significantly affect the world.
    4) The music is the best yet. Inon Zur has really outdone himself.

Overall, I can see myself putting in many more hours yet for the pure story and interest in exploring the world after the bombs fell. Because after all, war, war never changes.

After hours of playing i can say that this game is fantastic.
A lot of things to do, great atmosphere, and great characters.
The only downside is regarding performance on PS4, i hope in a patch that will fix them.

Bethesda's most complete game to date. I can actually say for the first time ever in a Bethesda game that I have played for over 40 hours and havent had a game freeze, crash, or a big glitch. When have you ever played a Bethesda game and said damn these graphics are great! The map definitely has more depth than other Bethesda games. Every place you find has a ton of secrets and layers to find. The story overall is good but I would not say its the best Bethesda has put out however the faction missions and random side quests you find exploring the wasteland are more fun than the actual main story itself. The settlement creator and weapon modification tool is the real homerun of this game. This tool is so easy to use and fun that you will be scavenging the Commonwealth for hours just to collect Aluminum cans and you will be having fun doing it! At the end of the day this game is what Bethesda has envisioned Fallout to be. Open world to explore, ability to create crazy weapons and villages and the choice of what faction you will pick. I have nothing but good things, what I dislike is very nit-picky. Expand

I would prefer to instantly breakdown junk by pressing square (X) while in inventory view, but I have to take it, drop it, activate my workbench and break it down only after it. No way to filter my items if I have too many just to view specific type o weapons for example. When I ask companion to give me everything, he or she even gives equipped items. I would like to remind that in Fallout 2 we could see equipped items in special slots instead of inventory view with everything else. These little things forces me to spend time optimizing stuff myself instead of enjoying the game. But I like combat. I like exploring. I like crafting. What good is good. Expand

    Ridiculously Fun

I had very high expectations after Fallout 3 and New Vegas and Bethesda absolutely delivered. This game builds on the foundation of previous titles and ventures into new territory. Playing on PS4, the graphics are simply stunning. I read some reviews about problems with frame rates on PS4, but I haven't noticed anything. Game runs very smooth for me, no glitches, no screen tearing, no crashes after some 40+ hours. The feel of the wasteland has never been better. I wasn't surprised by the huge open world with thousands of places to discover, but I was pleasantly surprised by 2 things:

First, the combat is great. Huge step in the right direction. Especially on a higher difficulty the enemies will challenge you as they run for cover, communicate with each other, use tactics, hurl harsh language, and die with satisfying gore. In past Fallout games, combat was sort of an afterthought when building your character. Fallout 4 has an impressive FPS combat system and the VATS overhaul simply works better. I've never had more fun fighting the dangers of the wasteland. And to top it off, the power armor is fantastic in Fallout 4. From the dazzling good looks, to the fiery explosions, I think they really nailed the power armor this time around. That every piece can be customized, changed, improved and repaired with materials found out in the world is just a bonus to the power armor experience.

Second, I was very impressed with the characters. The companions have lots of depth including their own likes/dislikes which can change as the game progresses. I consider it a good sign when I start to care about their opinions of me. The dialogue system has a nice feel to it and you can simply walk away any time you want during the conversation.

The game isn't perfect though. I'm not crazy about the new leveling system and the perks, but its not horrible. Settlement building quickly becomes very demanding if you're not careful. The are some bugs with a few side quests. It can be hard to find companions after parting ways, then wasting time running around trying to find them. Should really have their own map markers with on/off toggle.

Not going to bother with a Plus/Minus column because the game overwhelmed me with how much they got right while getting just a handful of things wrong. Been playing since the release date and I still don't want to put it down which is primarily why I'm giving it a perfect score. Already excited to start another playthrough. I'm not going to focus on the microscopic amount of flaws, many of which will get fixed in the next patch anyway. And anyone still complaining about the long download time needs to relax. I don't care if it takes a week to download - it's worth it.

All in all I think the game will make veterans of previous Fallout titles very happy and it will blow the minds of unsuspecting newcomers. The game feels like Fallout. High quality, immersive, long duration, great re-playability. Games are supposed to be fun and Fallout 4 is a ridiculous amount of fun.

Controls are spot on, sometimes too sensitive... It LOOKS like I have a baddie's head in my scope, but the bullet wizzes pass the ear and I have to set the shot up

I have not encountered any major bugs through my 48 hour journey (Playing on PS4).

In a nutshell, this game has completely surprised me in every single way imaginable. I think the graphics are actually quite good considering the scope, depth and detail in this game. In terms of the sheer amount you can explore, try and do in this game it's beyond the scope of any other game I have ever played. The story, writing and Ai make the game so brilliantly immersive I cannot seem to put it down, in fact ever since I started I haven't touched anything else. I'm going to write a point form breakdown of it's many redeeming qualities.

    - Absolutely immense, scope in story.
    - Beautifully written and engaging storytelling.
    - Wonderfully written NPC's and AI, make it further engaging.
    - Great graphics, with many interesting models and places to explore.
    - The map has a ton of variety and environments.
    - Gun play and Melee feels great and again, an insane level of variety and customization.
    - Crafting and building component is SO much fun and does not distract what so ever from the actual story, it's not an after thought and very much an integral aspect of the game which you can choose to concentrate less or more on. It's very rewarding and easy to pick up for people who've never played a crafting game such as myself.
    - STORY, STORY, STORY

    Now on to the bad
    - Graphics could obviously have been better, it does feel a bit dated.
    - FPS issues on PS4.
    - Several glitches mainly with getting stuck, but to be expected with scope of the game.

That's not fair to this game at all. Is it perfect? No. Is it better thank most of the mindless rehashed annualized sequels that spam us every holiday season? Most certainly! It starts slow, but once you get beyond that it's hard to put down. The quests are fun, the variety is endless, the world is vast, the story is fun, the setting and environment is exciting... Bottom line, there's a lot to like. And yes, this is an action game with strong RPG elements... don't let the reviews make you think otherwise. I've had my PS4 since launch and this is the first game that's really made me glad I had the system. Haters are going to hate, but some of the crap on here is pathetic. Pompous, arrogant children that think only they know what is good and anything else is crap to them.
    Vale a pena pagar R$ 200?
acho que ainda não vale tudo isso, se você ainda tiver seu fallout 3 recomendo explorar mais um pouco ate o preço do 4 cair pelo menos para 150...

War never changes as they say and at it's core Fallout 4 is the same as Fallout 3 and New Vegas. But just as NV brought new ideas to the playstyle and left others behind, so Fallout 4 has followed suit. A lot of the critical issues being raised seem to span from personal preference rather than actual broken or badly executed game ideas. For example I was always slightly disappointed thatWar never changes as they say and at it's core Fallout 4 is the same as Fallout 3 and New Vegas. But just as NV brought new ideas to the playstyle and left others behind, so Fallout 4 has followed suit. A lot of the critical issues being raised seem to span from personal preference rather than actual broken or badly executed game ideas. For example I was always slightly disappointed that in 3 and especially NV you could anally your dialogue options first before choosing and so you often had a way to get around conversation issues or even back out and come back at a later date. Now with the new dialogue system not only can you concentrate more on what is being said (rather read) and what you can see but conversations can become much more fluid and I feel it gives much more replay value. Often in the previous games I quick flipped through dialog as I felt there was no need to engage or listen to it instead speed reading the choices and choosing the best written one to get my goal. I haven't yet felt that the choices put before me lead me along the wrong conversation path.
In this day and age of super-uber graphics it is easy to get hung up on the looks of the game. For me it looks nice but I am lucky in that I can run it on Ultra settings without any problems. I can also understand a Bethesdas choice of creating a level cross platform playing field - the same game on any system and hopefully this will pay great dividends when official modding comes along if this can also be cross platform. BUT it is my opinion that by doing this they have hamstringed PC users and I do not think this was the right way to go. If you have spent your hard earned money on powerful graphic cards you want to make the most of them and Bethesda has instead forced the majority of the work onto the CPU which has caused significant issues for PC games who in truth don't have machines that are that old, but still are having issues running the game smoothly.
Having controller support out of the box is a boon, but the fact that some keyboard controls are hardwired is just lazy of the developer, there is no excuse for it and this needs to be patched soon.
Crafting and building is very nice and much more intuitive and fun than the modding system in New Vegas. The staged piece armor is also nice, but anyone who has played mod in Fallout 3 or NV will know this has been in the engine for over 7 years. It shows how good the game engine was back then and it is nice that they finally get a chance to show off its bells and whistles, but I still think it could have been improved more. Plasticine looking ears and trousers that don't look wet when you walk through water are things that have been achieved in previous games that are now 2 years old. Also some of the textures look low quality and as a result the game lacks graphical polish. While we can accept that time and resources are an issue, did they really have to spend time putting in multiple kitten pictures to hang on your wall when this could have been spent improving some key textures? I for one would have been more than happy to wait for a small DLC that covered furniture.
Some people have complained about getting Dogmeat, Codsworth and the Power Armor too early, but no one really forced you to use them and also for those who know the franchise, so many people on the older games went straight for these items/companions so now they are much easier to get to form the start, which is just the developer responding to player choice. The bottom line is that its a Fallout game, with masses of things to explore and do, and a massive focus on the story. But it lacks the polish that should have been possible in the last 7 years, and so I can only give it 8 out of 10.

I never played the previous entries in the Fallout series, so I have nothing to compare to. But I've really enjoyed the game so far. But I've really enjoyed the game so far. Sure, the graphics and story aren't as polished as they could be. But the general story and side quests, while they get a little repetitive, are really the same formula as The Witcher 3. The difference for me is that although I think W3 had a better overall story, Fallout 4 is much more engaging, for the following reasons:
    - Significantly better combat
    - Better crafting system
    - Better leveling system
    - Fallout's main and side quests are reasonable, not like the obnoxious amount of filler side quests W3 added that follow the exact same format (talk to someone, use your witcher senses to find something, clear out monsters, collect money) just so they can say they have hundreds of hours of content.

In terms of negatives, I will absolutely agree with people here that the game is buggy at times, and the story is not the best. I end up kind of losing sight of the main objective of finding the guy's son. Having said that, is it not the exact same general plot as W3? I found myself often losing sight of the main objective in that game, as well. I'm also not a huge fan of the weird settlement-building feature. I'm not into Sim City or Minecraft, so I'm not really into building settlements. But at the same time, it's really optional and I find it does add a change of pace to the gameplay, which is kind of refreshing, so I'm kind of neutral on it.

Overall, I find myself actually engaged in Fallout, whereas I never finished W3 because I got bored. I don't see why so many negative reviews, especially when a game like W3 got so many great reviews, and I think Fallout executes the open-world RPG concept better.

Finally, since we're talking about a game that is in the Game of the Year conversation, I would just like to comment that Fallout is nowhere near the game that Bloodborne is. Maybe that's just a personal preference, but I think Bloodborne beats both this and Witcher 3 hands-down in almost all aspects: gameplay, combat, graphics, story--the only area I think Bloodborne "lacks" (given it's supposed to be an RPG) is that your build choice is pretty much melee or melee. Even so, the choice is a no-brainer, but I would give Fallout and Witcher 3 second and third place, respectively.

The mobility and shooter mechanics are great and the menus are intuitive after a while of play. The Mine-craft like building of settlements is fun after you've played too many quests in row. The combat is leaps and bounds ahead of Fallout 3, the dialogue, though questionable, is in my opinion fantastic, with lip syncing being the only draw back.

So, in conclusion Fallout 4 is Fallout 3 on steroids with much improved mechanics and story that make for an amazing game, but still a Fallout game, so if Fallout 3 isn't your thing this will not be either.

A real direct sequel to Fallout 3. Excellent story and character development, not to mention the millions of hours you will spend exploring the scenery and making their buildings, helping the settlements and of course the main missions / secondary. It is mandatory purchase for fans of the Fallout series.

I don't know what these folks are complaining about. Fallout 4 is fantastic, no crashes for me. This game is fun. I go out, quest for a bit, explore, collect knick-knacks and what have you, come back and break it down, and build stuff. This gameplay loop is like drugz, son. A++, two thumbs up and a ding-dong sir.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've thoroughly enjoyed this game. So many hours spent wandering the wasteland, killing beasties, recruiting people and building settlements. This is my kind of game. The crafting system is also fun. I enjoy making my weapons and armor better every chance I get. Having to go out and find the resources to do so adds a nice element to the game. I played both Fallout 3 and Fallout: NV but I never really did much with the crafting in those games, but this one has me hooked.

The graphics are as expected for a game of this size and this early on in the new generation of consoles.

I hear there are bugs, but I haven't found anything game breaking, not like I did in Skyrim.

Soundtrack is pretty good. It adds to the atmosphere of the game, which is what counts.

The fights are fun. I like the gun play and the different options you have for destroying your enemies. The controls feel good as well.

The voiced main character as well as the ability to choose a name that can be used in the game by some of the NPCs when referring to you were both nice touches. It's nice to see us progressing in that regard.

Some of the random things that happen make for interesting elements in the game. Gives it a feel of a semi-living world. Just yesterday I heard this explosion, only to see a UFO plummeting from the sky. Also, running around Boston and seeing BoS gunships flying around and engaging enemies is a fun thing to see. Helps draw you into the world that Bethesda created.

Can't wait to see what DLC they come up with for this games. The previous two Fallouts I couldn't even be bothered with the DLCs, but this one I may just get them.

Would I prefer there to be a karma system yes, yes I would. But there isn't so ill deal with it. The settlement building alone is deserving of a very high score its a lot of fun and I personally have lost probably 15 hours just building and enjoyed every second of it!!!!!! The gun play is also exceptional and very smooth. I prefer the new V.A.T.S system over the old. The loot is well rewarding and the modifications you can make to your guns and armor are very in depth. The power armor is also great. It allows you to fight creatures like behemoths or death claws that might be to hard for you at your specific level and kill them to reap the rewards. I honestly think this game made some great improvements over fallout 3 and new Vegas and I think it is worthy of a 9/10 easy. I also think it is a serious goty contender. If you hesitant to buy the game because of all the Trollage reviews well here's what I suggest. Read the facts about the game read what the game honestly offers and then make a decision don't base it off this unwarranted hate train. If it were up to me I would say YES get this game its a no brainer get it and GET IT NOW!!!!!!!!! So there's my two cents hope this helped anyone who was on the fence about the game. OH and I would like to add that I have 35 plus hours in the game and am level 28 so I have experienced a lot of what it has to offer before writing this. But a fair warning if graphics are everything to you and you cant enjoy a game unless it has the best graphics available and you don't care how good it is unless the graphics are outstanding then please don't get this game and bash on it it doesn't need anymore of that Expand

Who can forget the game breaking bugs in Fallout 3 and in Fallout: New Vegas? With those considered, I think their process has improved significantly for this game. Why are those titles put on such a pedestal when their game breaking bugs are far worse and Fallout 4 has made vast improvements since those titles.

The game pays homage to what classic fallout players want, the VATS system was improved, the customization is great, crafting is great... I just... I don't understand. I just really REALLY hope that the people who are giving these reviews aren't Call of Duty fans who picked up this game because of they hype and then are mad because they want fallout to be something it's not.

Why are people complaining about the controls when they are fully customizable? Why are people complaining about the graphics when we obviously have to make some sacrifices to graphics when we have a game this large!!

The atmosphere feels great, the crafting system is pretty complex and interesting to explore and of course the combat system is what we have come to know from the previous instalments. The story seems to be somewhat interesting but I have not even scratched the surface which in itself is a good feeling because there is an abundance of stuff to do. The graphics do feel lacking and i have noticed a few glitches but nothing to ruin my game play.

If you are a fan of fallout and enjoy those games then this is a game for you. If you are expecting to be blown away by new features and huge changes to the core of the game then you will probably be disappointed. That being said, i still think anyone who picks this game up and enjoys this style of game will enjoy this next instalment.

    - Bugs.
    - Vocie acting sometime kind of odd.

It's hard to explain why this game is so god damn good and immersive. How can I make you like a game with **** graphic and a lot of bug in 2015?

This game offer a tons of fun. My experience with this game will be totally different of yours by the choices you make and the path you take. I've made it to level 14 just by walking in this world without starting the main quest. You feel involve in the world and you really want to know the truth!

I was not a fallout 3 / NV fan boy. I'm pretty new to the genre. This game is one of the greatest game i've played this year. I totally recommend this game if you're looking for a good immersive 1 player massive game. Better than the witcher 3 in my opinion. (The Witcher 3 was god damn good)

Personally I love how the story is told. It is very non-linear a you have huge amount of freedom in choosing the direction of the story that can lead to different endings. The game forces you to some difficult decisions (I had to fail many quest to be able to finish others - I love that). And the story is presented in a way, that there is no simple "Good" and "Bad". It is not evil corporation vs good guys saving the world. Each faction has its different view on the main topic. But non of these views are really evil or flawless. You are forced to compromise.
It is difficult to describe. But I really loved it, that it is not a black and white. Basically you can join one party and go defent the oposing one as a good guy. And other player may choose oposite approach and still feel like a good guy. You will save the world in way you believe it is best for it. But someone else may feel your solution is wrong and he will save the world by doing oposite. I love this :-D

The world is filled with bethesdas trademark 'get lost in sidequests' amount of activities, and while the rpg elements have been toned down a bit more from previous iterations it should still provide plenty of entertainment for anyone that liked fallout 3. Be aware that it is not a carbon copy of the older games in the seriues and has made changes, a lot of them for the better, but some for the worse, the removal of the skill system will no doubt step on some toes as is evident in the flood of salty reviewers.
Visually the game is good, dont expect The Witcher 3 levels of pure beauty but it is still a good looking game. It has some bugs but not nearly the amount of them the previous two entries in the series had to wrestle with at launch .

All in all a very solid game that will entertain for the foreseeable future

    - Not a spoiler; but the game only has one ending and regardless of which side you pick, you pretty much get that ending. I think multiple endings specific to the faction you choose had to be worked into the game. OK 'war never changes', but come on..
    - Graphics aren't very good, any goes only a minor distance from Fallout 3. This isn't such a big deal since the story is good, but game graphics are behind the current standard.
    - Not very replayable given that all paths lead to the same ending.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel bad for all the hate Bethesda is getting. People need to realize something important:

This game is much worse on consoles due to frame rate being capped at 30FPS and textures being compressed. Load times are also excruciating on console.

This is not just Bethesda's fault, this is the fault of the people for buying a $350 console that is essentially a $700 strength branded gaming PC, and expecting $1400 gaming PC power. Maybe games like Battlefront were optimized for console better, but on PC with everything on Ultra, this game is everything I wanted it to be in terms of graphics.

Although textures here and there could be twice as definitive, the natural light and shading and atmospheres created are 11/10.

Character animations and what not, as with all Bethesda games, is their weak spot. But its completely tolerable.

At first I thought I was going to be majorly disappointed in this game, for a few reasons:

The intro, time in the vault, and first walk in the wasteland is extremely concentrated, fast, and simple.
All 1-100 skill leveling from Fallout 3 has been condensed into a singular SPECIAL/Perk Chart. It feels bottle necked and simplified for extremely casual players, and this is not what Fallout 3 was.

The first important NPC tells you to jump into power armor and allows you to control a settlement in like five minutes. The first Brotherhood of Steel guy you meet asks you to join. This is all cheesy in my eyes and I wanted drastic broad-stroke story before I received Power Armor and General status.

In 2015, all forms of entertainment feel required to pull the user in, FAST. I think this is a bi-product of that unfortunate concept.

Fortunately enough though, after a few quests and with playing on the hardest difficulty, this game is the hardcore challenge I wanted. Quick-save exists for a reason, you can get your ass kicked. On the hardest difficulty, two swipes from a Yao Guai and you're dead. And that's with good armor.

The settlement building is quite allowing, and you do not run into an anticlimactic Tony-Hawk style inventory cap. Mods and DLC will surely add tons of content to settlement building over the next two years, and even with the vanilla release content, you can accidentally spend hours building your bases.

Weapon/Armor Modding feels just right. There's complexity for sure, but it's not revolting and easy to get into.

The worst part of this game is the story. It started off so fast and I do not care about who was killed. The main character has no emotion, despite the fact that they give you to social option to be like "IM LOOKING FOR MY SON" all the time. People need to realize though, story isn't what made Fallout 3 either. It was all the systems throughout scavenging, traveling, character customization and combat challenges. THIS GAME STILL HAS ALL OF THAT.

The thing that is most controversial to me is the map size. The map size is smaller than Skyrim/Fallout 3, BUT, in their defense it is quite dense. I think we should expect map size to double with all the DLC that eventually comes out.

Looking at some of the user reviews makes me cringe. Never will you ever find a collection of more whiny, spoiled and entitled trolls than some of the ones below. The sad thing is that almost everyone reviewing this game fails to shut the hell up and enjoy it for what it is: an absolutely amazing video game.

Once again, Bethesda has crafted an incredibly addictive, digital masterpiece that blows my mind every time I play it. The gameplay and combat systems are miles ahead of Skyrim or New Vegas, the setting of the Commonwealth is diverse and expansive (especially the Glowing Sea), and many of the side quests are interesting and engaging. I especially love the new crafting system, which is incredibly well implemented and fun mechanic. Gunplay is smooth, fast-paced, and enjoyable, a stark contrast from the clunky skirmishes present in previous Fallout games. The new power armor mechanics add an excellent element to combat and gameplay.

The main story is actually quite interesting for once, and while not close to New Vegas, it surpasses Fallout 3 and Skyrim easily. The moral question on whether or not synths were human was something truly intriguing and made me think about what faction to join. In addition, many of the characters, such as Nick Valentine, were quite quirky and enjoyable.

Of course, as in any Bethesda game, the best things are the little things. Random encounters and memorable side quests are what make games like this great, and many of them were huge improvements over Skyrim side quests. I especially enjoyed the Silver Shroud questline.

However, no game is without its issues, and like most, I was disappointed in the dialogue and voice acting. It could've been so much better, but I don't think it is anything to be too fixated in.

Performance wise, Fallout runs amazingly. Yes, their are plenty of mind-bending glitches but loading times are short, lag spikes are rare and in 20 hours of play time, I've had a grand total of one crash. Graphics are meh, but since I couldn't give a rat's ass about graphics, it does not bother me.

Overall: Fallout 4 is an amazing game that is absolutely worth it's weight in gold. If you want a video game that is incredible fun, and will keep you playing for months, take advice from the critics, and from my review. If you weren't loved by your mother, you can listen to the negative reviews below (but I still wouldn't recommend to do so, and instead give this game a try)

So why only 8 out of ten? Because of the bugs and glitches. To be fair i haven't encountered that many myself, but considering how long bethesda said they were working on the game, and the fact that they claimed it was gold (ready to be shipped) almost a month before its release date, there is absolutely no excuse for some of the bugs and the fact that there was a day one patch for the game. I love bethesda but that is unacceptable in my eyes. Still that being said there is no doubt in my mind that this a sure win for game of the year.

But taken in context as a sequel in a brilliant franchise, it is yet another example of developers dumbing games down to try and appeal to as many people as possible. Fallout 3 is one of the greatest games ever made. Part FPS part sandbox RPG, I really felt like I had the freedom to do what I liked. Be a good guy? No probs. be an evil barsteward, no worries. You could even blow up a whole town if you felt that way inclined! This one seems to have taken away that freedom. I felt shoehorned into making decisions towards the end, none of which actually made any significant difference to the world you are exploring. Plus, with the current technology and power we are currently enjoying, I expected a smarter game. I should not be able to take a companion from one faction into a rival faction's territory without any consequence, but I did. If I take a Brotherhood of Steel companion into the Railroad headquarters I expect him to react, I expect it to trigger repercussions, but no, there was nothing. It completely undermines the story, and with the current capabilities of this generation of consoles it's unacceptably lazy programming.

In Fallout 3, you are presented with really serious decisions which will change some things forever, and I love that. Here, whatever you decide doesn't seem to make much difference, and when you finish the main story arc it all seems a bit pointless. The game becomes little more than a slightly deeper than average FPS, and not the adult RPG it should be.

It's not all bad- I actually like the addition of settlement building and maintaining, and some of the characters are great. I don't think it deserves some of the low scores it has got on Metacritic. As a game in its own right it is great fun- I really enjoyed it. But once completed, I went back to playing Fallout 3 and promptly realised that it is not a patch on that.

It's just a game where you can play at your own pace and it's fun with base building and traveling around the map experiencing new things as they happen. 10/10 for me!

We must first agree that this Fallout game has had more commercial hype and popularity than any other. It seems that almost everyone gamer was excited about this game, most never the others. One who loves Call of Duty and Halo might love the action aspects of Fallout 4 but trash the rpg elements of the game. Basically without getting to into it, it seems that those who love the Fallout universe love Fallout 4, while those who never played any of the games or just New Vegas (which wasn't even made by Bethesda and didn't have much to do with any of the main story points) don't think positively about the game. The user reviews for this game are very misleading. I would give it a 9 but to balance the stupid 0 scored ill give it 10.
So why is it a 9?
    - Good costumization system
    - Great combat
    - A great open world
    - Great story
    - Good perk system
The only problem is the bugs which isnt that big of a deal

Fallout 4 represents the culmination of years speculation, months of anticipation, and weeks of no sleep to get to this point. Not to say the game is perfect but it's flaws were almost expected with the track record that Bethesda has and I can't say I'm surprised by some of the bugs and glitches.
There's a ton of good in this game that it's the reason why it gets a 10 from me. The music is some of the best I've heard from a video game period and the combat is classic Fallout. Nothing has changed in the way the game is played. The amount of content in the game is incredible and the main story is finally worth something, even if there's not a ton of substance to it. The characters are well done and the things they have you do are fairly original, especially for the setting. The crafting element is great, if maybe a bit too complicated, and the new settlement system, while nice, can be very overwhelming if you don't look up on how to properly run it. All of it combined makes a great game with a ton of stuff to do.
Now the elephant in the room: The bugs and glitches can be very bad. Fortunately (knock on wood) I haven't been affected by it as bad as I've heard some other people have been. Sure I've had the occasional freeze up, but I can easily tell when they're about to happen and I can save real quick before it happens. Others have had nothing but glitches and I'd probably give this game a red score if it had been happening to me like that too. Fortunately it hasn't and this has been the best experience I've had with a Bethesda game in a long time.
Fallout 4 is truly a masterpiece and something everyone needs to play. It's so engrossing and wonderful that it's easily the best game of the year for me. Hopefully they get the bugs fixed for the ones who are experiencing horrible slow down and crashes. As for me, I'm going back to finish up some side quests.

"The graphics and sounds of the game are very recognizable to fans of the series, carrying the same photo-realistic touch of texture, a somewhat stiff character model, 40’s - 60’s soundtrack, and futuristic laser effects, all of which are set to an intriguing and wondrous apocalyptic landscape. The audio quality of weapons and environmental effects has been improved and are noticeably superior to previous games. In one instance of gameplay, one might find themselves traveling south to repel an invasion of ravenous raiders when a storm starts to roll in and completely engulf the player with thunder and wind. The dramatic effect and realistic balance of weather elements creates a special experience. The soundtrack, while featuring new songs, does contain past fan favorites which is a welcome and refreshing piece of nostalgia. The graphics, while sharper and more defined, are relatively lack luster when compared to other big releases of this year... these games met popular demand by representing crisp and colorful environments that realistically represented textures, lighting, shadows and movements especially when considering humanoid characters. In somewhat of a contrast Fallout has long since had a cartoonish flare to its style in a general array of browns and greens and smoother, more paint-like patterns than what one might see in real life. Bethesda stuck with this approach in Fallout 4 and while players can often find themselves observing a vast landscape that seems like a masterfully hand painted canvas of fallout life, these scenes are rather aesthetically un-impressive when compared to the landscapes of other big releases this year... what can be concluded is that the graphics are an improvement in the series, but in generational context do not meet expectations of what a majority of gamers believe a video game in the year 2015 should look like... gamers are also dealing with consistent disjunction in AI movement, speech, and interaction within the environment... this break in continuity editing, however familiar to fans of the franchise as such errors were commonplace and often humorous in other titles, causes the game weakest standpoint to affect its strong points all the more. However, what’s important to note in the visual and audio category is the relativity of this subject to the game’s overall review. Graphic and sound quality are an essential part of a game, but gameplay and story components are much more pivotal to a games’ success and overall enjoyment."

"The gameplay is where Fallout 4 shines, and it’s most notable in the details. The game has been inducted with a lot of changes to the basic formula of what is to be expected in a Fallout game. A slightly more responsive combat style has been created, thought admittedly it is not as polished as other shooting games. Weapon recoil and sensitivity feels smoother as do the physics of combat engagements..."

"... the introduction of modification allows for creativity and variety within the personal experience of each character, giving players choices in offense and defensive capabilities as well as personal styles. All though a basic idea and without complex design and innovation, when these changes are paired with the immersive environment and exciting combat, Fallout 4 is bringing a fresh and new approach to the Wasteland adventure. It is enough to keep fans familiar with the series, but also applies the sense of updated and superior handling and the potential of a more intimate and connected relationship with the Fallout story."

"The adventure players take through the games narrative has been argued by Gamespot to be the driving force of its success and that the game 'lures you in with mystery and the promise of adventure'.... this world leaves an emotional impact and grows more and more interesting with each few hours of gameplay. Though it is also reasonable to observe that while the foundation of the story is engaging, quests can become mundane as they can follow a repetitive format of snatch and grab, collect and build, or seek and destroy."

"It is arguable that the size of the world is in fact too small and should have been made more expansive, but with the addition of the ability to sprint, unlike previous games, gamers are able to cover groto cover ground twice as fast and therefor when exploring and experiencing the world, it’s perception of size is reduced to a smaller size. This can be a huge disappointment to some gamers, but doesn’t actually downplay the game’s value... Fallout 4 is just as expansive, if not more so, than other open-world games today."

"Gamespot scored the game 9 out 10 concluding that ‘In the grand scheme of things, Fallout 4's minor issues pale in comparison to its successes’. The bottom line is that Fallout 4 has its flaws… However, this newest title is an improvement on an already successful formula of open-world gameplay and has nowhere to go but up."

    Gameplay:
Well from what I have played, it feels fairly solid. I like the VATS System, and the new loot system where I don't have to go into a menu to loot I can just take what I want and leave. The shooting side of things is slightly odd (Well for me anyway). Coming from shooters like Battlefield, Destiny and so on, I will say it does feel a bit out of place but I guess it just takes getting used too. The AI doesn't seem very smart, constantly getting stuck on objects in the world and what not... but I really couldn't care less to be honest. I ran into a graphical bug as soon as I left the house at the beginning of the game where the everything went black but yeah again kinda typical of Bethesda so wasn't surprised there, I just laughed. The building side of things I thought was interesting despite the stupid Key Bindings they used to access it but whatever. The guns feel solid which to me is a good thing. I haven't done too much crafting as of yet but yeah it feels pretty good.

    Performance:
Well yeah... Smooth, Smooth, Lag, Smooth, Lag... Now this really grinds my gears as I know that they are capable of getting the game to run solid but are most probably too lazy to really dig deep and make it work. There are so many other open world games that have far greater details yet run better. No excuses for this one.

    Overall:
I enjoyed what time I have put into the game and look forward to continuing my adventure in the Wasteland. I would (Despite the obvious flaws) Recommend this game.

It's not like they've said otherwise so it shouldn't be a surprise, and a single trailer informs you of that quickly.

PC is a bit buggy. Shouldn't be an issue since this is a PS4 review, but a number of the negative reviews are focused on PC issues.

XBox One has a noticeable stutter. Again not an issue for the PS4 version. However the PS4 has an odd slowdown when a lot of particle effects load. This maybe the main difference between the GDDR on the PS4 vs the DDR on the XBox One. GDDR has a higher bandwidth, but higher latency making it so it doesn't hit this stutter hickups probably due to texture loads, but makes it so an odd slowdown a large sample of small effects which the lower latency DDR has not issue with.

There is a game bug caused by Updating the Game, but NOT Updating the PS4. Then if you turn off Auto Save, and only use Quick Save then you could find your self Stuck in an Elevator with Vanna White. This appears to be more of a user error than anything.

    Pros:
Load times appear to be really good starting off. Since this is an open world it will probably continue to creep up over time as the world gets more and more complicated, but with quite a bit of play it hasn't become too much longer than it started off so that's a plus.

Autosave, and Quick Save do not hurt the game. It's odd to bring up, but Auto Save in the PS3 Era frequently crashed games, or caused noticeable pauses. I've had no such issue, and that's a plus.

The crafting System is a big plus, and settlement building is a big plus for me. it also lets me address the big issue of how is there so much scrap lying around after 200 years. The big cities should have already plundered most of the dead cars, but if they're not I will.

Broom collecting is no longer a complete waist of time. Since everything you pick up can be turned into scrap.

The shooting outside of VATS is improved to the point of workable. In the past the shooting was so cluncky that it was mostly pointless to shoot outside of VATS. Two shots in VATS could be a full clip out of it. It's still better to use VATS, but it no longer feels pointless.

The story is well done, but it may appeal more to adults with kids then it would with young adults who have no concept of parenthood.

    Room for Improvement:

All ingredients need a way of being instantly cached away in the workbench. There need to be a way to bulk scrap some of the needless weapons, and armor. There should also be a delineation between junk that is always junk, and junk that has uses other than junk.

The wasteland is rich and detailed with many interesting locations to discover as well as many disturbing monsters, raiders and robots to fight. Gunplay has been improved and vats is no longer the primary way to dispatch of feral ghouls and Death Claws! Combat feels more comfortable and it is a lot easier to use weapons without the vats system. Thats not to say vats isn't necessary, because it is espesially if you want to play tactically and it really helps when facing hordes of beasts or much larger enemies.

Story is interesting and the many side quests appeal. Fallout is a dark world and many quests give you a sense of wonder as you explore the wasteland further. I enjoyed the many interactions with the rich characters you meet.

Graphically there have been improvements. Personally I love the graphics style and I'm happy that it feels familiar to Fallout 3. There have been some complaints about character models and texture pop in etc but it really didn't bother me because I was so invested in the world that I found the graphics to be fine.

The soundtrack is again awesome carrying over many of the well known Fallout 3 songs and adding a few new ones, although I would have like to have seen another hour or two of new music added since you are going to put in 100's of hours.

Another neat new addition is the build mode, you are tasked with building a town, giving it power, lights, beds, furnishings etc. It's a nice little add on that you can lose hours in.

Overall I love Fallout 4. Because I am having so much fun with the game I'm barely noticing any issues with it, yes there's the odd glitch but nothing that has ruined gameplay or caused me to reload. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and highly recommend it to any fans of the previous games and new players too.

There is also fun builds focusing on VATS. Third would have to be the new settlements. This is a fun addition to the game that you can spend many hours on. It also makes sense that as the savior of the wasteland you would build settlements for people to live in safely.

Okay as far as the bad I will admit the graphics look dated but Bethesda is giving us mods which will surly include texture packs. Another big issue is they got rid of Reputation and Karma... these were vital in maintaining responsibility in actions. If you travel alone especially you will notice no negative effects for stealing at all unless your caught which of course if your getting caught stealing your playing wrong.

If they mod in or patch in some improved textures and the addition of karma with town reps the game will be near perfect.

Although it is undeniably one of the most over hyped games this year, Fallout 4 is still a joy to play. There is no doubt that the gameplay has been significantly simplified when compared to other Fallout titles, this does not mean that this game is terrible.

    [SETTING]
Fallout 4 takes place in the Commonwealth, which is somewhat less charming or interesting than its predecessors. New Vegas, which is probably one of the best Fallout games, was extremely great in that it had great characters, factions, and environments compared to Fallout 4. FO4 suffers from its lack of uniqueness. Everything in this game looks great, but it doesn't evoke the same awe and wonder that one remembers having when they first played Fallout 3 or NV.

    [GAMEPLAY]
Gameplay has also changed significantly, whether this be for the better or for the worse.

The voice acting in this game is undeniably extremely well done, although the new conversation system that has been employed is less so. The new "Mass Effect" dialogue system feels too simplistic when compared to the expansive dialogue options given in the past two Fallout installments. It seems like a downgrade rather than an evolution. However, the story is more engaging thanks to the fully voice-acted protagonist, which gives the series more depth as you can hear and feel the emotions of the character you play (although this does admittedly ruin the idea that "you" are the character).

Gunplay and VATS is extremely well-done this time around. There is more of an incentive to play Fallout like a shooter, as the gunplay has been overhauled to play like a standard FPS. This a welcome change to the clunky mechanics in previous games. In addition, VATS feels more intense, as the game no longer pauses, which gives a sense of urgency. I have no qualms about these elements of gameplay.

The RPG elements of the game are overly simplistic, with many removals of systems such as individual skill stats. The whole system is now reliant on the perk system, which simplifies the game. I am not a big fan of this, as FO4 now feels less like a Fallout-game and more like Skyrim.

    [CONTENT]
It's Fallout, which means there is plenty to see and do. Quests are great fun and there is enough to keep players happy for months.

The music is on par with previous installments. I find myself humming these tunes even when I am out of the game.

The story is great and is quite similar to that of Fallout 3. I am not going to go into much detail, but if you liked the kind of story Fallout 3 had, you'll like the one here.

    [PERFORMANCE]
On the PS4, the game has several framerate issues, but nothing to be overly concerned with. Other than that, the game runs fairly well at a (usually) constant 30FPS.

    [CONCLUSION]
FO4 is a good game. I have spent countless hours playing and quite like what I'm seeing. However, there is no doubt that this is not the Fallout we were expecting. The depth and elements that made Fallout 3 and NV so immersive have either been removed, changed, or simplified. If you don't mind these changes, you will find Fallout 4 to be a game that will be worthy of your time.

I've been playing Fallout 4 for over a month now and I'm still loving every second of the game. I had really high expectations going into the game and it did not disappoint. The combat is fun and there is a lot of variety in possible play styles from stealth, to heavy weapons, to power armor, to sniping. The map is my favorite from Bethesda and probably my favorite open world map. II've been playing Fallout 4 for over a month now and I'm still loving every second of the game. As for things I didn't love, I think some menu enhancements could be implemented to make managing settlers and companions easier. And while I really like having a voiced protagonist because it adds an emotional layer to the storytelling, the dialogue options are more simple than previous entries.

I've seen some complaints online about there being a lack of content, but I don't agree with that. I've beaten it one time and spent 200 hours on that character and I know that I haven't done all the side quests and haven't discovered every location. Plus, with the multiple endings there is even more incentive to play through again. I haven't been this addicted to a game since Bloodborne which I thought would easily be my favorite game of the year, but Fallout 4 may have taken its place. Truly a great game.

First, Bethesda has some optimizing left to do. For anyone that loves Skyrim. there are some of the same issues. Although I am about 20 hrs in to the game and this game does not have nearly as many bugs as Skyrim. It seems that every great game that has come out this year has had optimization problems. Let's hope that Bethesda will be patching this as well.

Second, The learning curve is very steep. It is not hard to get lost in all the mechanics and it is a bit unfortunate that this head spinning affect kind of detracts from the start of the story. My suggestion is to go in for a few hours on a character and then start over so that you can really enjoy everything without worrying about figuring out mechanics.

This is such a massive game with a ton of working parts. Once you get past the learning curve, that's when the real fun begins.

The conversations and voice acting are much improved from Skyrim and Fallout 3 or NV. There are people that you actually get to know. The gun play is a huge improvement and my favorite part is tweaking my guns down to the last piece. Waiting for a mediocre gun with an awesome scope so that I can take it to upgrade my best sniper.

The best part is that you can do what ever you want. Want to be a muscle bound cannibal that heals in radiation and kills super mutants with a tire iron. Go for it. Want to build a ton of settlements and repopulate the world with followers. Do it. Want to massively specialize or average all of your stats out and be a jack of all trades. Completely up to you. The possibilities are endless.

Great game to get lost in. I definitely suggest as one of the best games of 2015.

Anyway. The game is amazing, I've been playing for a good 20-30 hours, there is sooo much to do, i'm literally avoiding the main story missions as much as possible. The game is gorgeous, I don't know what people are complaining about. There's so much story to every little area you come across, you just have to look hard enough, check out the computers and listen to the tapes, etc.. every area has a story behind it. Night time is seriously creepy, especially if you have headphones, you can hear footsteps and random noises.. you're just waiting for that moment when a ghoul rushes at you out of the darkness, and scares the **** out of you. You truly feel like you're in the game itself. The game gives off that "You're truly alone" feel, pure awesomeness.

There is much more crafting in Fallout 4 than in 3, which gives you uses for a lot of that junk you find. I feel this makes it more immersive. The items you build seem to have use beyond aesthetic, but time will tell if there really is a noticeable difference in the Heavy build 10mm pistol vs the Light build 10mm pistol. Even if there isn't, the game is open to modding and I'm sure it won't be long before many in game systems are tweaked and/or made tweakable by the gamer.

Simply put, the game is lovely, and looks fantastic on PS4. People complaining about the graphics need their eyes checked. I am a major graphics nut, have a very nice PC with a GTX970, but I have a thing about buying Bethesda games on console so I am not tempted to use console commands, so I got the PS4 version. Is it a graphics Marvel, no it isnt, but its still a beautiful game. If you were a fan of Fallout 3 and New vegas you will notice just how vibrant and bright the colors and art styles are. I entered a hidden passageway that reminded me of Wolfenstein: The New order in design yesterday, impressive visually.

Gameplay thus far is great, guns handle way better than previous Fallout games and the design your character and building a settlement in the first 5 hours or so of the game had me hooked. Its like a game within a game, love the creativity with it and the weapon building. I think any real fallout3 fan is going to love it.

I havent actually run into bugs but that's part of the charm on Bethesda games. Unless its a game killing bug, most of the bugs are a minor annoyance at best. Framerate has been fine for me thus far, but I have heard its a bit low on Xbox One at times, having it's AMD 7790 GPU running 1080p on it was probably a bad idea, they should have stuck with 900p or 720p like most other games. I have a sneaking suspicion MS had a hand in it being 1080p even if the performance suffered.

I played Morrowind for 500 plus hours on the original Xbox when it was much worse looking than the PC version and had much lower framerates, So PS4 having slightly less than 30 with dips near 20 doesnt really bother me. I'll get on PC eventually when the Mods hit and enjoy better graphics then. For now, you cant go wrong with this game unless your wanting perfection, or bought an Xbox One.

If you are a fan of Fallout 3 then you will really enjoy Fallout 4. It really feels like your playing Fallout 3 but in a different location with does varying differences. Some you may enjoy and some you may not but that's just personal preference. Some may not like the change to the leveling up system. Some may not like the new dialog system. I myself am not bothered by either. My favorite things about Fallout have always been the exploring and the fights which are fantastic.

One of the biggest additions to the game that I happen to love is the crafting system. It may not be for everyone and that's ok since you don't have to partake in it if you don't want to. I enjoy it and find myself spending hours working on my settlement instead of following a mission. So amazing how this can be like a game within the game.

The weapons are pretty awesome and the ability to craft this is great. I love how you can pick your favorite weapon and really focus on it. You can put points towards perks to increase you ability using it and you can craft the weapon into something very strong. you can even name the weapon if you like.

I've noticed that Fallout 4 is a little more challenging than Fallout 3. Enemies seem to be smarter and can really overwhelm you. I find myself sneaking around a lot more and trying to pick enemies off one at a times. Going in guns blazing may not always be the best strategy but if you want to you can.

Overall I think Fallout 4 is fantastic. It doesn't take much to be caught up in the game for over 3 hours without even realizing it. I can't give it a perfect score since it is not perfect and it does not deserve it. I do believe it deserves a 9 rating though. Most of the bugs and quirks are not enough to actually take away from the game. Some may be a little annoying but everything else in the game makes up for it. I highly recommend this game.

A strong return for the franchise, boasting incredible customisation, a fascinating world and brutal yet brainy shooting, slightly tarnished by lacklustre AI and tedious inventory management. [Christmas 2015, p.88]

Feral Ghoul ugly in many ways, but beneath its iffy exterior beats the heart of one helluva great RPG. Get past the graphics deficiency, and the sheer thrill of Fallout 4’s combat, crafting options, and exploring will hold your attention for months. [January 2015, p64]

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
