Doom is truly a game for all you overkill-loving gamers. This style of gameplay stays true to the original games from the 90's yet fits so well to the modern times. The campaign's story is pretty straight forward but unimpressive. Go here, kill demons,, activiate this, rinse and repeat. But the great gameplay makes you forget about the story.

As for the multiplayer, they definitely fixed the balancing issues since the beta. Every kills/deaths are fair and will motivate you to keep playing. Doom offers traditional modes such as TDM, Capture the objective, and soul hunt (which is Doom's version of kill confirmed), but adds their unique modes such as freeze tag.The hack modules customization are endless, and just about covers anyone's style

Finally, let's talk about Doom snapmap. There are endless choices here. You can use your imagination to create new maps and game modes. The best part is once you have created something, it can be shared with the rest of the community in your platform. I have already seen some interesting ones from maps made of classic 16-bit textures to a intense survival mode.

In conclusion, DOOM is a solid fps that truly has its own unique nature to be different from other games while staying true to the originals, but it lacks a good story in campaign

This is one of the best first person shooters i've ever played.
It's fast-paced, brutal, beautiful, challenging and filled with character.
It's a kick in the face of almost every other modern fps. I can't recommend it enough.
Becareful though! It's hard as hell and its checkpoints are, at times, pretty unforgiven.

Visually great-Graphics are not laggy at all and I did not notice any frame rate drop.

Weapons!!!-All the Doom favorites are accounted for each with a new spin adding mods.

    Cons

Short Story- Doom hasn't been known for storyline but with this title there was much more that could have been done.

Weapons- How can it be a pro and a con? Same Doom weapons and the chainsaw and BFG have really limited ammo and no mods.

DOOM is back and arguably better than ever!

Id went back to the glory days of Doom, where all you want to do is blow everything up and just completely kick ass. Story-wise, it's not important, nor should it be. Doom has never been about good story, but good gameplay, and this long-awaited return to the series does not disappoint. The campaign is a glorious (and extremely brutal)

The campaign is a glorious (and extremely brutal) welcome back to diehard fans such as myself. DOOM now features collectibles, "glory kills" (melee finishers), weapon/armor upgrades, and the return of an open-ended singleplayer. The multiplayer is decent, but not that impressive. The SnapMap mode is really interesting but I wish I could make outdoor levels/maps. So the Campaign is really where the game shines.

Overall it's a must-own to any fan of Doom or the FPS genre. It's the best shooter I've ever played in quite awhile. It's a game that is well worth full price.

doom is a first person shooter where you slay demons...
And you can do this in a variety of ways
as you progress through the game you’ll unlock new weapons…
and to upgrade these weapons you have to earn upgrade points by completing in level challenges, and finding collectibles..
Once you’ve unlocked all of the mods for a weapon, to get its mastery you have to complete another challenge…
This system really had me searching for opportunities as well as forced me to use every weapon at my disposal.
There are also rune challenges in these levels that unlock a rune that give you a special perk, which can also be upgraded by completing that runes individual challenge…
Doom for the most part starts fairly average..
I wasn’t impressed with the first few hours of the game at all…
But thankfully as I progressed further and started to unlock new mods and skills and the levels actually started to stand out from the crowd I started to really enjoy my time...
I was legitimately surprised at every twist and turn this game took me in…
Dooms combat can be pretty gruesome at time especially thanks to the glory kills…
but most enemies feel way too spongy for any of this to every feel truly satisfying and the novelty of the glory kill quickly wore off.
But for the most part you’re in a way solving a puzzle, pulling switches and killing waves of demons on your way…
I did get an opportunity to play on the games highest difficulty, and unfortunately playing a level on this difficulty is required for a trophy
and I say unfortunately because it’s not fun…
it really highlights the cheapness certain enemies have..
You’ll die in this mode with 1 hit easily…
Which isn’t too big of a deal if certain enemies weren’t so cheap with their attacks... mainly the demons that throw fire balls… they have extreme accuracy and can climb walls…
you literally wont see your death coming..
And if you die here you start the level all the way from the start.
    It’s just not worth it…
There is a multiplayer mode here too
6 different match types that you would recognize from most other first person shooters like team death math or domination with their own doom twist for example instead of kill confirmed you harvest souls instead of collect dog tags
You unlock weapons abilities and demons as you level which can honestly throw the balance of a game out the windows as the higher level players who are already at the time in advantage also have the stronger loadouts and demon spawn ins…
luckily the demons don’t feel all too over powered.. But they are definitely fun to play as and worth the effort to try and grab the demon spawn stone before someone else does...
The doom multiplayer is super addictive and rivals the likes of killzone 2 as one of my most favorite multiplayer modes in a game…I can easily see players sticking around until the next doom comes out
there’s also a super deep snap map mode here that lets you create scenarios, edit ai, sound lighting, spawn points and connect different logic chains for a nearly endless amount of scenarios
If you don’t feel like creating, you van also hop into other peoples published maps.
    Doom is a great game
    There’s something here for everyone...
a 12 hour single player campaign, a varied and addictive multiplayer, and a snap map mode to get your Picasso on.
    I give doom an 8.9/10

In recent years Bethesda has prominently displayed it's penchant for publishing FPS games that are completely alternative when compared to the likes of Call of Duty, Battlefield and other regular shooter games.

Doom willingly ignores the paradigms and beliefs of it's 'normal' competitors and encourages players to charge into the fray with reckless abandon. The violence is brutal, the gore is bloody and the speed is breakneck. Each battle is a test of how fast you move, what tool is best for the job and which targets you choose to prioritise before your opponents overwhelm you and defeat you. Succeeding against the odds is always rewarding, but some point towards the conclusion, the inevitable increase in difficulty doesn't hold the same appeal as it did near the beginning. Nevertheless, Doom is a near perfect shooter that pays homage to the original and also reinvents it at the same time.

The story is threadbare and deliberately written to be absurd and ridiculous, but this is done to simply justify why the player must go to a new location, complete an objective and battle more demons in the process. Despite this fact, it is still well written, but lacks meaning and also ends on a cliff-hanger, hinting at the potential for a sequel.

The campaign is the best feature of Doom, it's subsequent other modes like multiplayer and custom game-mode maker pale in comparison, although both deserve points for trying.

Overall, Doom is a unique shooter that will leave a lasting impression if you're a fan of FPS games with a twist.

Everything was over the top scary, nerve racking and most of all, fun! I always wondered why a publisher never remade Doom properly, well finally someone has taken on the task and to me, they did a great job! Better than I could of asked for. I recommend this game 100%. Let get into it.

The single player campaign is "DOPE" yes I used the slang term dope from the 80's lol. It's that good... There is so much here and it's made in a way where you can play this game anyway you like. Let me explain. The single player game is offered two ways arcade, and well, campaign (lol). Arcade is just like it sounds, play for high scores with all weapons available. The scoring is done in a way where it's very exciting to watch, the screen goes crazy as you go for kill streaks, head shots and specific attacks to increase your score, its a total blast.

There single player campaign is the meat and potatoes of this game. They did put a lot of effort in here. I want to first say that every level has a bunch of secrets to find. One being an original level of doom hidden to discover (fully updated with current character design in the old school level " COOL") on every level of the game. Besides that there are "ruin trials" for upgrades, items to find, keys to search for, weapon, armor upgrades and of course terrifying enemies constantly swarming at you. The levels are designed with precision for maximum gunplayability (is that a word). I love the map system, you can use 3D or 2D and it definitely helps. The enemies are all your old favorites updated, beefed up and on you, like stink on something smelly...lol. You get plenty of guns at your disposal most have secondary functions and can be upgraded. The weapons are so much fun to use, blasting enemies feels amazing, you must use skill, knowledge and know your enemies weaknesses or your a goner. Glory kills are new, I wont give to much away here, but cracking skulls never gets old...

The levels are deigned like this, you get to a new area kill everything, then get some breathing time to explore, complete tasks and even do some platforming. Some people say the game is simple, but thats not true. Its a complex game, if you play it that way. It can also be a mindless shooter just ripping through enemies like in arcade mode... If this was the whole game it would satisfying, but thats only the first half of the title. There are two more modes.

Multiplayer to me is tons of fun, they have team death match and the standard fare but they did add a few other modes in too. I like bots are included to play with, its old school multiplayer and I enjoy the heck out of it. You can upgrade your characters look as well as other attributes. Not much more to say about this mode, it's definitely worth playing and can be a blast is your into multiplayer.

Snap map, whats this? I can make my own maps? Big deal? Well it is a big deal, in this game. I was shocked how versatile this mode is and how well it works. I played countless multiplayer matches on custom themed games (not all shooters) that the community designed. I can make my own games up too and there so easy to do! A tool like this can keep a game alive for years. You can make almost anything up you want here and its again done great. Its so user friendly. You can make single player, multiplayer, co-op whatever, you can make it in snap map. If making your own levels sounds boring or to difficult to you, you never have to, there are a ton already made up for you to use and their all rated right there in snap map. What can I say, jeez louise, easy peezy.

Doom is an amazing package for both people who love nostalgia or just want a great shooter. Indeed old school doomers will appreciate the nods to the past while new players will marvel at the nonstop action , go doom go!

Id Software made a perfect job. DOOM is so nostalgic like old parts of franchise, and now has better gameplay, improved by many upgrades, challenges, etc.. flows on 60 fps with no any drops, i didn't see any bugs or other problems with a game. This game is finished from A to Z. Sure, DOOM doesn't have interesting story, just load your guns and shoot everything what you see :)

Each levels consists of many open arenas filled with enemies where you test your skills in quick visceral combat requiring moment to moment reflexes. Luckily you have the classic Doom arsenal with a few newcomers. You get to carry all at once in classic fps tradition and switching through constantly is strategic to your current situation. The soundtrack packs a heavy punch as you fight through hoards of demons and the art direction is all pretty cool in my opinion, not to mention theres tons of easter eggs with little regerences to other games and films. Multiplayer is ok at best though, it doesn't feel right in a Doom game with loadouts and other modern trends. Overall it just gets old after a couple hours and I can't see myself going back to it. Snapmap is also very limited and gives little to the modding community so it will probably be abandoned by most. ID knocked this one out of the park after the disappointing Doom 3 and Rage just as Machine Games did with the new Wolfenstein games. If you want something new with a very nostalgic feel or just an amazing single player fps this new era of Doom is worth your hard earned cash. Expand

While I loved Wolfenstein 3d, Doom, and Quake when I was younger, that was mainly because they were cutting-edge and offered never before seen experiences. These days, I look for good or unique storytelling in games and I find the typical grinds and gameplay loops boring.

I'll start with the gameplay. It's everything you'd expect a modern version of Doom to be. The only minor issues with it is that rockets don't seem to be nearly as fun as they used to be (maybe that's more of a Quake thing), and feedback upon receiving damage is kind of light. It's a great change of pace from the hordes of military shooters we've had for the past 15+ years. Although if you've primarily played military shooters, then Doom will take some getting used to.

Controlling the game via the PS4 controller works well enough, though isn't as good as a keyboard/mouse setup.

I must praise the graphics. Playing this on a standard PS4 is amazing. Everything is fluid and looks great. This is one of the best-looking PS4 games I've played, though I primarily play RPGs. I wish more developers would license id's engine for their PS4 games.

The story is the main reason I got this. Just hearing about Doom Guy and his disrespect for authority got me interested. The first level is amazing and there's some good characterization going on here, but after that, it's toned down a lot. Doom Guy doesn't start angrily breaking stuff again until one level in the middle of the game. And there's many sections throughout where he just stands there and watches. I really would have liked to see him do more. I was especially disappointed when meeting the final boss: he just stood there. Though I suppose his finishing move somewhat made up for it.

The story is light. I remember there being more story and background in Doom 3 (2004). You only interact with three other characters through the whole game, and they're not all that interesting. They really just serve to give you a reason to go from one level to the next. There's a relatively small (compared to other games I play) number of data logs that contain information about the locations, weapons, monsters, and characters. But again, they're not too interesting.

There's a surprising number of extras too, which I don't remember ever being in a previous Doom game. User-created levels, specific secret item/areas, and even original doom levels. This is always nice to see when most games these days repackage their extras as DLC.

So yeah, I had an average time with this game. It was a bit fun to kill hordes of demons, but it got a bit monotonous for me with not a lot pushing me forward, storywise. It's staying in my collection regardless. As an old-school Doom fan, I wouldn't do anything else.

This game oozes style and attitude and it is undoubtedly the best single player first person shooter experience I have had on the next gen consoles to date. But I have to be honest, I have not touched the multiplayer portion of this game and based on what I have read it is not the reason to purchase this title. It certainly was not for me so that is why I am focusing on the campaign only. And what a campaign it is! Firstly the graphics. Wow . I am playing on the PS4 on a Sony 4K TV and this game is jaw dropping. The textures, lighting and particle effects are all some of the best I have seen this generation. The game runs in full 1080p( though my television does upscale the image to 4K) at a consistent 60 frames per second which is an unbelievable feat considering the graphical fidelity on display here. For anyone familiar with this series and arena style shooters in general, the decision to provide a consistent 60 frames is highly appreciated. The art design is also top notch. The weapon models are exceptional as are the environments which range from space station corridors, sprawling areas on the surface of Mars with lots of verticality as well as dreadfully beautiful locales in the depths of Hell. The game’s aesthetic is reminiscent of old heavy metal album covers and it is all very very cool. The creature designs are also fantastic. There is a large variety from small grunt like demons who pepper you from a distance with hellfire balls to enormous demons with surgically attached machine gun arms. Very heavy metal indeed! The enemy AI is good. Foes are very aggressive and keep you on your toes. The game is fairly challenging at medium difficulty and downright Dark Soulsesque at the higher difficulty settings. The sound design does not take a backseat to the visuals. The game is powered by a driving heavy metal soundtrack which increases in intensity as the on screen action ramps up. Guns sound great and all of the ambient noises are top notch as well. Most importantly the gameplay delivers on every level. This is Doom. The speed of the game is the biggest factor here and it immediately sets Doom apart from any other shooter on the market. This game is fast. But the buttery smooth controls ensure that you have control over that speed at all times. This game is all about movement. Tactical concepts such as taking cover, regenerating your health, and picking your enemies off one by one will get you killed in Doom. Constant movement, good aim and an itchy trigger finger are your only methods of survival on Mars and in Hell. Movement is always a joy however, thanks to fantastic controls and a climbing system designed to navigate the environment with ease. Doom also introduces a Glory Kill system which consists of staggering an enemy with gunfire and then getting in close for a brutal melee kill. Since Doom sticks to its old school roots it does not feature regenerating health. Instead Glory Kills provide you with a small health burst for every enemy taken down in that fashion and it adds a great tactical aspect to the shooting formula and I found it to be a relatively small but very welcome addition. But this is Doom as you remember it and also what you imagined it would be like in 2016. In terms of story its completely serviceable. The gates of hell are accidentally opened on a remote research facility on the surface of Mars and it’s up to Doomguy to put his jet powered space marine boot up Satan’s behind. War and Peace this is not but if anyone wanted a super intricate story line complete with branching story paths and dialogue options simply does not understand what Doom is all about. You are here to kill demons and kill demons you do. In glorious fashion! Doom also includes a very user friendly SnapMap feature which allows users to create a variety of multiplayer, single player and co-op content which adds a lot of value and replayability since there is always something new to play. This game is an absolute blast. It is highly polished, infectiously addictive and I cannot put it down. I know many review sites have really knocked down the score because the multiplayer is not great but if you are interested in Doom for all of the right reasons I would highly recommend this title. The audio and visuals are very impressive as is the solid framerate. O really couldnt ask for more in a single player campaign. The multiplayer is good too just different. It seems to be catching some unjust flak for not playing like a COD game, but...IT ISNT COD! It is more of a fast paced "arcade" type shooter. Jumping, circle strafing and aggression are key. something that i feel like many players have lost in the one shot kill, or quickscope kill method too many people have adopted or come to expect from modern shooters. Well done Bethesda/Id, a breath of fresh air in a COD cloning market. Expand

The multiplayer isn't the greatest in the world however the campaign and snap map feature (which by the way, I haven't seen anything like it on consoles) are awesome.

I spent hours and hours into snap map making my own maps along with game modes to go along with it. Snap map is cool, and you can create whatever is possible within a shooter franchise. Examples : I played whack a mole with a shotgun along with tower defense games 4 person co op. I'm currently making my own campaign and leaving some secrets out there for players to find. Snap map is cross platform so everyone can enjoy.

For the second portion of this review, is the campaign, it's gotta be the most refreshing FPS campaign I've played in awhile. Examples : Doom Guy doesn't give a ****, an AI is being serious to him and he smashes it without a care in the world. Meltdown imminent? he doesn't care he's there to kill demons until he dies along with him. Total immersive experience the campaign is and I recommend it to anyone bored with the usual in the gaming industry. Really addictive game play to boot.

As for the Multiplayer, it isn't the greatest in the world but it is a lot of fun with friends, I have more fun with it than CoD if you want an idea of how it is. It's 6v6 and has powerups, pickups (Ammo, Armor, Health) Demon Runes (which turn you into a demon) These you pick up and can give your team a massive advantage, however if he gets killed the killer takes on the reins of the demon himself.

It is interesting and I hope iD Software gives it more attention and makes it more fun. This is the granddaddy of all shooters after all and it deserves the number 1 spot when it comes to innovation in FPS. Conclusion: Multiplayer is the only thing dragging the game down, which even then it's all just gravy compared to it's Snap map and campaign. Those two alone are worth the price of admission. Snap Map has endless content for all to enjoy and it's a worthwhile choice if you're looking for something new.

While DOOM 3 took the horror feel and none of the action from the original 2 DOOM games, this one brought back all the gore and action you could ever ask for. It expertly combines little shout outs to long time DOOM fans with a mix of the new that results in a tight controlled shooter with that classic DOOM vibe still strong in the gameplay. While some may criticise the game for upgrade point in your weapons and armor, I found it to be a welcome addition that added meaning to exploration in the, as I've heard it called, "laberyintian environment." While the single player felt worth the $60 price tag alone, I would have liked to just see a few more campaign missions to extend the playtime of the game that truly excels. Because the multiplayer and snapmap feature are disappointing. While the snapmap feature is robust and offers a lot of cinematic options, I found that it wasn't user friendly. It may be just me, but for the life of me I can't get the effects to play out the way I want if at all even after an hour of playtime. I think personally the creatives maps of the game's fanbase will have to be what I rely on for the fun of the feature rather than making the maps myself. And the multiplayer...Well it's there alright. You can't take that away from it. Because there really isn't much you could take away from it if you wanted to. It feels like it wants to be something it's not, and that is some sort of hybrid Call Of Duty clone that just feels wrong somehow. It isn't terrible, but if you are looking for a game to play with your friends, the multiplayer gets old pretty fast and doesn't offer much variety.
All in all I'm glad I bought this game though. It's the first in a long string of losers I have bought for PS4 that finally reminded me why I bought one in the first place. I've had the time of my life trying to Platinum the game and find all the secrets and I think any long-time DOOM fan will love this game.

I must say that I have been one happy man with releases like Wolfenstein: New Order/Old Blood and Shadow warrior. Now this Doom is latest addition for that list. I mean good single player first person shooter.

So Doom is fast paced shooter like old Quakes and Serious Sam games. You move to A to B and kill bad guys on A and B and also along the way. The levels are mostly linear with few places where you can go check for secrets and explore though the main thing is on killing demons.

And it is really fun to do it. You start with regular pistol and shotgun but then you start to build your arsenal more and more and almost each weapon has 2 mods that you can attach to weapon (shotgun has burst fire and explosive shells for and example). So that gives you plenty of choices how to rush into the battle.

Also there is instakill Glory kill that you can enable when the enemy is staggered, gives you health when you need it. Chainsaw that uses fuel on use gives you ammo and 1 other special weapon that is a blast.

Also your battle suit is upgradeable with basic max health, armor and ammo but also some modifiers for faster climbing etc. Then there are Runes (perks) that you get trough trial levels that has some kind of modifier to give some challenge.

So there is loads of things that you can upgrade if you are into that sort of thing.

Enemies all are different from each other. where the regular zombies just move slowly, imps throws you with fireballs and jumps around fast like a monkey. Only thing that is missing from enemy roaster is spiders from older games.

There is a story and it's a simple one. Also there is some lore to read about places, monsters and weapons that I found interesting (I don't usually read those text collectibles).

Also there is Basic multiplayer option that is ok and a snap map where you can build your own map or play the ones that other people have done. I didn't play those so can't say much about them.

But Doom is good sp fps that I bet I'm gonna visit again and again like I did and do with Wolfenstein.

Bethesda and ID’s visceral collaboration, Doom throws players into a fast-paced, metal-fueled first-person shooter. With monsters and mayhem in abundance, does Doom offer anything new to the over saturated FPS market, or are fans left with another generic shooter?

    The Good
The fast paced action of Doom sets it apart from other games in the FPS genre. There is no time to take cover, and if you don’t move, you are guaranteed to die while enemies are around. There is a feeling of urgency and an element of unpredictability with the enemies that is absent from most games of the genre. The game encourages players to utilize its “gore kill” system by having enemies drop health pick-ups from being killed in this manner; this was a feature that could have felt tacked-on, but ultimately becomes a core combat element that can be necessary for those running low on health. The brutality of the weapons and the creativity behind their upgrade/attachments provide players with a level of strategy to handle demonic encounters; players must act quickly when fighting demons as the weapon wheel only slows the action, but does not stop it. Players are challenged with adjusting to any demonic encounter on the fly and this level of non-stop action makes for an enjoyable experience.
The snapmap game mode deserves high praise not only for its entertainment value, but also its practical applications in teaching coding. Snapmap allows players to create their own playable maps and upload them for others to play themselves. The remarkable aspect behind this game mode is the detail, size, and environmental reactions a player can create within their own map; the level of detail and control that players can put into their own creation makes this game mode a how-to for coding. Were it not for the games Mature rating (17+), Doom would be a highly recommended teaching tool for those students interested in coding.

    The Bad
While there is a story present within Doom’s campaign mode, it’s less than compelling; portal to hell has been opened, close it. While the story unfolds through collectable dossiers and natural progression, there is little depth or surprises here. It’s not terrible, but it’s not great either. The online multiplayer is more of the same, in that there is little difference between it and every other multiplayer FPS mode on the market. You won’t see anything here that you haven’t seen before.
The major offender in Doom is repetition; there isn’t much more to this game other than move from one area to the next to clear out enemies. While players are encouraged to explore the surprisingly large maps, the repetitive nature of clearing out hives of demons begins to take its toll, and eventually the gameplay becomes stagnant. The level and creature designs are extremely detailed, but the gameplay never really evolves, despite having more difficult enemies thrown at you as the story progresses. Doom plays all of its cards in the first half; everything from that point on is more of the same.

    Rating
7.5 – Doom brings freshness to the FPS genre that has been absent for far too long. The old-style health and armor pick-ups create a difficulty many gamers either forgot existed, or had never experienced. Fans of the series will rejoice with the fast-paced blood-bath that is Doom. While the core game becomes repetitive, the inclusion of the snapmap is an innovative game mode that is ripe with potential, and the multiplayer mode at the very least serves its purpose, despite not bringing anything new to the table. Overall, Doom is a non-stop ride through hell and back, and many gamers will be pleased by the series return to form.

It's singleplayer is truly the best in terms delivering its gameplay front and center and not giving a dam about story or lore in the form of long winded dialogue dumps and expository jumble. It has exploration, collectibles and original DOOM maps thrown in to relive the golden days of that old tradition of FPS games. The music is simply badass, with shredding and high frequency electronic mixed making the experience of killing demons so dam amazing. The designs of the demons and such is pretty dam cool, and while the bosses are not the best, the constant killing and slaughter trivializes this. Glory killing is outstanding and so metal to do (though it can get old for some and completely understand this) that I'm glad it's an option. If DOOM had only its singleplayer, then it would be an easy 10/10 for me.

But it does not. Multiplayer is the weakest part of DOOM, with a setup more catered towards Call of Duty, Halo and other FPS that DOOM inspired but was not along sides with at the time of its conception (like Wolfenstein 3D or Quake) and will be a "tale of two games" when playing. I think it is decent, but if there was more effort put into its multiplayer style similar to Quake, it could easily crush alot of FPS online multiplayers. The Snapmap is a creative tool to allow you make maps and create little missions in them to share with your friends and the community. It is not as refined as say Forge like the Halo series, but it gives some creativity that will make you tinker with it and possibly make something cool.

Overall, DOOM is everything I wanted in terms of a no nonsense campaign through Hell and Mars mired by some multiplayer issues and online things. It is definitely a game that deserves alot of praise for this and cannot wait to see the sequel.

Where most shooters rely on cover and practical tactics in a gunfight, DOOM thrusts the player into the role of an unstoppable destroyer where there is no reload, there is no aiming down the barrel or crouching behind cover because the best strategy is always forward. The combat is kinetic and has you charging through demons with bombastic and beautiful weaponry. There is a grace to the movement, a momentum that builds as you carve through hordes of Hell’s minions across a detailed depiction of a colonized Mars where industry is centered around scientific research and the excavation of resources. There was instantly a feeling of familiarity to DOOM, but that familiarity quickly evolved and blended into refreshing gameplay that exceeded all my expectations.
There is no beginning tutorial or opening cinematic, it is within thirty seconds you kill your first demon and the action does not slow down from there. DOOM understands its identity, making it transparently clear that the gameplay comes before all else.
The combat is brutal and swift. Armor, ammunition and health are scattered through the levels that quickly become arenas of demon slaying. You run through these areas, fighting and scooping up supplies while methodically weaving between charging enemies and demonic energy blasts. Damage compounds quickly in DOOM and the gameplay continuously thrives in the moment to moment action, forcing the player to rush enemies because every close quarters kill comes with a splash of blue orbs to grant health and loads of ammunition to refill your arsenal. There is a relentless need to push forward and it creates spontaneous decisions that can spread into a mesmerizing chain of kills.
Hell is not scary. Hell is bad ass. Heavy metal music is sprinkled expertly throughout the game, electric guitar and beating drums adding intensity to each fight and enhancing the jaw dropping visuals with tone setting instrumentals. Mars is a mesmerizing depiction of the red planet turned to a harsh industrial zone, blood splattered hallways and towering steel structures your battleground in cleansing the demon threat. Hell is built upon boiling magma, constructs of skull and bones beneath a cloudy sky of crimson as a backdrop to your war against the wicked monstrosities that occupy the underworld. Every scene, every room is imaginatively crafted to further deepen the tenacious vibe of DOOM.
DOOM allows you to become well acquainted and dangerously efficient with the weapon of your choice. The style and feel of each gun differ greatly and are effective depending on the enemy, situation, or equipped upgrades. You’ll find lasers, explosions and more yours to wield as your collection builds and the joy of finding a new weapon always comes with a rabid excitement to use it against the next wave of demons in your path.
The side characters and the DOOM slayer are interesting parts of the puzzle, yet it is the enemies that are the centerpiece. New demons are precariously introduced in each level, starting small and simple and advancing into more complex designs and mechanics as the campaign goes on. These demons keep surmounting until you’re fighting a vast variety of different monsters in one battle, multiple enemy types forcing you to adapt and master your craft. Some may charge you and disposing of them is as simple as sidestepping to shoot them in the soft flesh of their back while others hurl energy blast and smash the ground to knock you away when you get close to make battling them a combination of flanking and firing. These fighting styles require different tactics to win and learning and applying these techniques while battling ten different kinds of enemies establishes a sense of pride when finally overcoming the horde of hell’s monstrosities.
DOOM is both comfortingly familiar and refreshing original, rebuilding a classic from the ground up to reestablish a brand that seemed forgotten in the modern age. A pedal to the floor, heavy metal vibe immerses the player in a crazy dystopia of demon slaying joy that never loses its flavor through the sprawling campaign. Atop the adrenaline inducing gunplay, imaginative demons, stellar soundtrack and brilliant level designs, there is an abundant amount of secrets to be found and an intriguing narrative hidden just beneath the surface. DOOM puts gameplay before all else and reinvigorates a dormant franchise with an entry that will spark an entire generation of new fans in this creative reimagining of the classic shooter.

The graphics and sound are both off the charts. id tech 6 is visually stunning, competing only with the new Unreal Engine 4. The soundtrack is unbelievable, going from creepy atmospheric tones to metal depending on the action. Best sound and graphics I've seen in a game to date.

Replay value is high due to the numerous ways you can customize your Doom Guy. The game also offers several difficulty levels, the highest (one death and it's over) being locked until you've completed nightmare.

Overall it's one hell of a ride that's sure to keep you busy for months on end. Would Doom again 10/10

I was going into this game already disappointed. However, I was quickly proved wrong. The multiplayer is a throwback fun quick shooter which is what I missed. The campaign is amazing it feels like old doom except with much needed updating. And the SnapMap is a better forge than forge can ever hope to be. Please don't pass this game up it is amazing!

Towards the end it does feel like a bit of a grind....get attacked by swarms of demons, move forward rinse and repeat however this doesn't take away from an enjoyable 11 hour (for me) campaign.

    Positives:

Runs well (played both PS4 & Xbox One versions)
Fun gameplay (who doesn't enjoy shooting demons with a shotgun?)
    Level up system

    Neagatives:

Campaign drags a little towards the end

Within seconds of starting the game you are given a gun and demons to kill and you are off, its that simple, the story is all told in first person while you play meaning the action never stops and when i say action i mean balls the walls insanity gameplay in which you run at break neck speed around brilliantly design maps mowing down a great variety of enemies.

The glory kills are great and part of the core gameplay and not just a gimmick. You are rewarding for your kills with small amounts of health which you will need, trust me!

Doom is hard as nails, fast paced, stupidly fun, violent and plays smoothly and beautifully on ps4. A must buy.

It was great going to hell once again and fighting hordes of enemies, beating them down with their arms, hands and sawing them apart with excitement! This reboot brought my passion back and made me feel just as sick as I did in my early days. I have found some bugs (UAC, At one part while standing at the bottom of a cliff, going for a glory kill and literally fell through the map.) Other annoyances are melees; sometimes the dang AI moves and you are left spinning around to try and figure out where they went.

All and all, I give it a solid 9.5. It is fun to play, especially with the Guide, (making sure no items are left unclaimed) I'll be back in hell later tonight, hope to see you all there with me.

This is essentially Doom I and II brought into modern gaming, and by modern gaming, I really only mean 3D, because that is where all the similarities to modern FPS games end.
This is not your standard corridor FPS game. This is nothing like Battlefield, Call of Duty, or Halo (Though its closer to Halo than the others). You are not a soldier going through a poorly written war story. There is no political intrigue. There are no Michael Bay-esque set pieces to move the game along. In Doom, there is only the player and a seemingly endless horde of demons to shoot down, hack apart, or stomp through.

If you summed up gameplay in one word, it would be "kinetic", but "violent" can also work. Very much like in I and II, you will find yourself constantly moving, whether it is from one end of the map to the other or simply circle strafing a big bad demon. The fun fluid combat is only amplified by the game's emphasis on verticality. You can now jump and double jump all across the map. And trust me, it feels amazing to be jumping like a mad man across chasms and climbing up ledges during combat.
The Glory Kill system is also amazing. When I first heard about it, I was skeptical about whether or not it was a good feature or not, but boy was I wrong. The kill animations are short and sweet, and uber violent. Much to my surprise, they did not mess with the combat's momentum, and they felt very natural, even when done in the middle of heavy combat.
Health and ammo are plentiful. Unlike iys predecessors, you won't be hunting down ammo and health packs. Upon death, enemies often drop small health bonuses. That may make the game seem to easy, but it doesn't do that. It often seems like a godsend in arenas that have dozens of higher level demons clawing, blasting and bashing you from every direction. When enemies are killed via chainsaw they drop copious amounts of ammo, like a bloody piñata.
Weapons are comprised of all the tried and true Doom classics. This time though, the chainsaw is a limited use weapon that requires gas as ammo and insta-kills demons. Hidden in the maps are drones that give you a weapon mod. You can upgrade mods with points earned in combat and via challenges. The mods aren't varied, but they make combat even funner. Elite Guard corpses can also be found, letting you upgrade the Praetor Combat Suit. Runes can be found, that give you new powers.

The story is nothing to write home about, but then again, Doom was never a story driven game. You are a man (practically a demi god) who kills demons. If you come expecting something deep and thought provoking, look elsewhere.

The music is amazing. The sound us amazing. The graphics are amazing (comparing to PS4 releases). Levels are well crafted. Area designs are great, but it could have done with more variety.

Multiplayer is the only downside. I only played a few rounds before I switched it back to the campaign.

Judge this game by the campaign alone, and it is phenomenal. Truly refreshing throwback to old school arcade FPS games that weren't there to ham fist cheesy cliched campaigns down you're throat.

IMO this is better than COD. The only gripe I have about the multiplayer is there is no music and the outfits look a bit cheap to begin with, like I'm in a late 70s or 80s film. But other than that, this game should be rated higher than a 7.

See, not everything old school should be something we long for. Some of the design choices for the campaign are primitive at best. Mainly, the need to kill every single enemy in a room in order to go to the next. And despite all the adrenaline you get from killing demons, eventually you ask yourself: is there anything else to this game? The answer is no. Killing demons is fun, but the game eventually throws so many of them at you that you will begin to feel fatigue.

Diversity is a good thing, and an essential part of having a modern day video game. Multiple mechanics working in conjunction to provide an experience only modern games allow. Having a dozen of well made weapons is not having multiple mechanics. In fact, Doom has only one mechanic: "shoot and kill".

The multiplayer feels like a modern remake of Quake (pick one, they are all essentially the same). Which is not a bad thing, but it honestly lacks the necessary depth to keep you invested in the long term. Again, is fun but not a substantial addition to your free time.

Finally, the Doom modding system is great. If you have the patience and ability to dedicate enough time to create content. Yet, is too early to tell if anything truly mesmerizing can come out of it. I am sure that if great user content begins to appear, then this feature is the most essential one to Doom.

In conclusion, Doom is a good game for 60 bucks. Is a GREAT game for 40, and a fantastic one for less than 30 bucks. So it's really up to you if you are willing to wait it out for the cheaper prices.

One thing I've come to realize while playing Doom is that most games have music that reinforces gameplay and keeps it upbeat. That's great and all, but in Doom, the music IS the gameplay. Deep nine-string guitar chords furiously bellow out between sickeningly satisfying squelches as you rip and tear the flesh and bones of Hell's armies. Wear headphones, turn the volume to max, and set the difficulty setting to Ultra-Violence (or Nightmare if you're a masochist). It's an adrenaline rush of an experience like no other.

The campaign alone is well worth the purchase price and then some, but in addition to the campaign, Doom includes Snapmap and competitive multiplayer modes. Snapmap is a surprisingly easy-to-use level creator capable of creating entire in-depth levels and unique enemy encounters, allowing cooperative and competitive four-player community-created experiences. It's really quite impressive, and there are already several thinking-outside-the-box modes such as a farming simulator and tower defense mode. The possibilities are truly limitless, and to make it better, it's being constantly updated with further creation tools.

The multiplayer mode will either be a total disappointment or a pleasant surprise depending on what you were looking for. It uses a loadout and level up/prestige system, demolishing its potential for a classic arena shooter experience, but the gameplay is still just as solid, responsive, and polished as the single player campaign. That said, the vortex rifle paired with a shotgun is kind of the ultimate loadout, at least at the moment, due to both weapons being reliable high-hitting damage dealers. Overall, give multiplayer a shot and see if you like it. If not, you still have a solid campaign and map creator to sate your demonic bloodlust.

I'm starting to love this trend of classic first-person shooters getting a brand new, yet faithful revival. Wolfenstein: The New Order and now this beast! That's honestly an understatement for this game, though. Doom is the kind of game you wouldn't expect to come out today. The game isn't perfect by any means, but I can see it having an impact on the gaming industry for awhile. Let's get into why that is.

    Campaign
Doom's campaign is very much Doom. It's a first-person shooter with a fast, frantic pace and gore all over the place. All the guns feel great and are a joy to destructively blow through demons as deadly as you can. The main combat in the game takes place in usually large arenas. Like Uncharted 4's shootouts, they're dynamic, challenging, and totally fun. You can also perform amazingly satisfying "Glory kills" after getting the demons' health down to a certain point. They act like executions, but I would definitely call them an essential part of the gameplay since they also drop much-needed health benefits. The more you play, the more they fit into the game. Once you get used to their nature, they don't slow the game down one bit. Doom also has some great elements of exploration implemented throughout its campaign. There's secret collectibles, rooms, classic Doom maps, weapon mods, and bonuses for your character. Yes, I did just mention bonuses for your character. There is a progression system in this game, and I really liked it. You can upgrade your weapons, the Praetor suit's unique abilities, and basic health and ammo attributes. I have to bring up the story of the game, too. It knows that it doesn't have to be a big part of the game itself, which is very good. However, it still acknowledges that it needs to be there somewhat to give a little bit of context for all the demon-slaying. You're obviously not playing this game for the story - but it is there. I will admit - it took me a little while to get into Doom's campaign. It starts off slow and doesn't throw much variety at you near the beginning. Once more enemy types and weapons come into play, though, it becomes a ferociously fun experience. In fact, the last third (maybe even more than that portion) is some of the best and most fun action I've ever played in a first-person shooter - maybe even gaming in general! Needless to say, the best part about Doom is its campaign, but the other modes included are also very good and add a good amount of content and replayability.

    Multiplayer
Doom's multiplayer is, in a way, a totally different beast. In other ways, it's similar to other regular multiplayer shooters - which isn't always a bad thing. If I had to name other games' elements that are included here, I'd say it's similar to Halo 5, Call of Duty, and Quake. It's pretty fast-paced. I'm also glad to report it's fairly skill-based. It rewards accuracy and correct weapon-usage. However, there is one part of the multiplayer that turns against that skill-based characteristic. That would be the demon runes. They are, without a doubt, my least favorite part of this mode. They're overpowered, take no skill, and just overall mess up the enjoyable flow of the matches. The game also has a number of great multiplayer modes, including one particularly fun and unique one called Freeze Tag (it's exactly what it sounds like!). I've been having a lot of fun with the multiplayer, and I see myself playing it for a long time.

    SnapMap
SnapMap is my least favorite mode in this game. I appreciate that it's there - greatly, in fact - but there just wasn't much done with it. SnapMap is where you can create your own special maps and play others people have created. It works with both single player and competitive maps. I am not a creator in these modes by any means, so I really didn't care to make anything. So to make this mode worth my while, I obviously have to play other people's maps. It's not that the maps I've played are bad, they just aren't that interesting. The tools for creation here just aren't as robust in something like, say, LittleBigPlanet. From what I experienced in this mode, the maps I played just feel like filler.

    Final Words
I think every gamer should give Doom a shot. It's an amazingly fun, unique, and rewarding experience throughout. The game is obviously worth it mainly for its campaign, but the multiplayer will also satisfy the competitive gaming side of everyone.

I also think the music to accompany the action fits very well as it adds adrenaline. This is my first Doom game and I'm very impressed. Even now im itching to go back to this game to play some more. Game comes highly recommended for people who like shooting games.

The 1st computer game I was ever addicted to was Doom in 1993. 1st time I ever networked two computers together was to play Doom. 1st set of real speakers for my computer was for Doom. 1st time I bought a follow-up game to the original was Doom 2. 1st-time kids at school ever talked about a computer game was Doom. So let's just say I know what's up. Now the best part of this game for so far is the fluidity of the environments and the gameplay as it pertains to 60 FPS. Never have I actually noticed that a framerate mattered until this game, cuz basically I didn't care. From Atari to NES to SNES and so on a good game is a good game. But this silk soaked in vaseline contraceptive motion awesomeness is freaking obvious right out of the gate. It never slows down no matter how many fireballs are being thrown at you or how many times you jump from platform to platform running for your life. Hint...RUN! Just do it. Don't think or plot or look around much cuz...DEAD that's what you will be. It's say, 50% faster than Destiny...well maybe it's the music making me feel that way. HOLY CRAP the MUSIC! The music is almost the best part of this whole game...it's atmospheric and pounding like a KISS concert on crack. I started out on the hardest difficulty but then switched down a level because I felt I was missing the graphics and music because I was too busy RUNNING! Gonna switch back tonight I think, now that I have the lay of the land.

Now the reason I gave it a 9 is because there is not character creation...and I don't need an extravagant one. I have a 14 yr old daughter who likes to game and I get annoyed that you can't be a girl. And let's be real, a girl holding a chainsaw screaming at you would be damn petrifying!

Although, this game focuses on gameplay to make its experience superb. Now is the experience superb? No. But it's pretty great in my opinion. The graphics are stunning, and so is the world. There will be many moments where you just stop, and look at the scenery around you. THAT is what hell looks like. There are many enemies, therefore you use different tactics to defeat each one, so you will find yourself thinking and playing a lot more strategic than you may expect. The missions have great structure. There are many secrets in each mission that may leave you coming back to play the missions 2-3 times to find all of them. And after you do that, the multiplayer in Doom is great! It's very fluid and it feels natural, and it's extremely enjoyable. Maybe not to the level of Call of Duty or Battlefield in terms of multiplayer, but it is a great experience. The snapmap maker feature is also very welcomed, it is extremely intuitive and user friendly. It is enjoyable to make your own maps, and some people have already made some pretty incredible things. Now, you shouldn't be buying Doom for the multiplayer though. This is a Doom game, and it does a great job at solidifying that, it doesn't really take anything from the popular FPS's as of late, it stays true to itself, and it shows, and succeeds at doing so. Now, this game does exactly what you would want it to do, or expect it to do. The weapons are amazing as well, and you can customize them, along with your Praetor suit which is your armor. You can also customize the colors of your armor and weapons in multiplayer. This game is great. I'm not giving it a 10 though, because it is not a masterpiece, but I am giving it a 9, because you literally cannot want more from a Doom game. I don't see how anyone can give this game anything less than an 8/10. Expand

I haven't tried multiplayer, but SP campaign is the best FPS campaign on this generation so far. Reinvented, extremely well paced, with sheer gameplay value, without bulls*t that would add nothing to the experience.

DOOM become one of my biggest suprises of the year for it's brilliant execution in maintaining it's identity and being fun to play, also ignoring the currrent market of games and keeping it's classic taste.

DOOM is meant to be appreciated.

This is one hell of a game. It gives you such a power trip when you completely annihilate these demons.
You have to be constantly moving so you do not die, and I actually found the story interesting. The metal rock tracks of the soundtrack are kick-ass also. Great game would recommend it to anyone unless your squeamish.

As for online I did noy play but I am sure as far as multi person shooters go this would be amazing. Gameplay is pretty smooth however the lack of challenge made the replay value mediocre, yes I get it, you are a bad ass super soldier but you should have a little bit of trouble. I only died if I fell off a platform or blew myself up. The thing that saves this title for me and what keeps it in my collection is... it's DOOM and being stranded on mars with thousands of aliens and a BFG will always be dear to me.

Never cared for ID's multiplayer (Quake 3 Arena was good), but with Doom...it was never a thing so it would be covered in this mini review. The game is flat out awesome. Playing on MAX setting at 1440p (ultrawide) on PC...oh man, wouldn't want it any other way. Fast, gory, and in your face action is what we have needed for DECADES! My game of the year!

This is easily the best first person shooter released this gen and I would go as far as to say better than anything release last gen too. A great mix of old school twitch shooting as well as some modern elements that ID has made work surprisingly well. The game is fast and furious and will leave your adrenaline pumping hard.

Man is this game good. It has the right amount of difficulty and just the right amount of mindless shooting to keep me coming back for more. This game is exactly what I expected it would be, and that is amazing. Dying in this game is fun, because then you can map out a new strategy to take on the demons, exactly the way I felt when I was playing the first 2 games.

    IGN fails again.

It works like this: after you attack an enemy to the point of them having little health left, they are highlighted and this gives you the chance to run up and tear them apart mostly with your bare hands, leaving them a bloody mess, and spawning health/other pickups while doing so.

Sounds cool, right? I thought so too...at first.

Then I realized that since the game is mostly stingy with health pickups, you're forced to keep performing these sort of finishing moves whenever possible to stay alive, especially in later levels. It's a gimmick that completely breaks up the flow of the game. You end up shooting enemies a couple times then you rip them apart like cardboard, rinse and repeat. It totally undermines the intimidation factor of the enemies.

Imagine how fun the original Doom would have been if you had had the powers of the berserk powerup 100% of the time AND had to use it constantly. It would have sucked. The player SHOULD feel nearly helpless when left with nothing but their fists to fight hordes of demons--it's a great incentive to be prudent with ammo consumption. But in this game if you have low ammo, it's like "so what, i'll just shoot them a couple times each and tear into them faster than Oprah into a box of jelly donuts"

Also regardless of all the hype about this being an "old school FPS" (mostly referring to the health system actually based on health replenishment rather than CoD-style 'wait in a corner to heal' tactics) there ARE dialog screens you have to wait through, and they try to make "the story" be a part of the game too.

...uhm, this game IS called Doom, right?

The video game equivalent of a modern reboot/remake movie that captures little of the spirit of it's namesake.

DOOM delivers! For me in all aspects. You´ll get pretty much what you can expect of a game called DOOM.
And it is working. No major bucks, no server/MP problems everything works just fine!
KEEP IN MIND: There are other games with way better ratings and much more trouble even after a day one patch which DOOM didn´t even needed!!!. It got everything what a good game needs to have and on

It got everything what a good game needs to have and on top it stays authentic to the franchise. All the critics you´ll find about this game, for me every single one of them is a plus (loadouts, glory kills etc.).
Multiplayer is ultra fun to play! There is just this amaizing amount of good decisions (Get all weapons very early through the MP/ No set back after Echelon). The game is full with plenty of these smart decisions imo and what looks first as a simple brainless shooter is very well thought through when you look close.
