I like Digimon World: Next Order better than Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Next Order isn’t without flaws, but it's exactly the kind of game the Digimon World series needed after a regional hiatus. While the unconventional combat and grind-heavy skill training aren’t likely to deter fans of the franchise, newcomers might find some of the game's quirks unwelcoming. As such, Digimon World: Next Order likely won’t appeal to everyone, but the game is something longtime fans of the series will have no problem dumping hours upon hours into.

Next Order, much like other games in the Digimon World series, is unabashedly complex. In spite of its dated looks and seemingly un-involved combat system, the game’s multitude of mechanics and systems definitely give the game a depth that isn’t instantly obvious on the surface.

Throughout my 35 hours of playing Digimon World: Next Order I began to feel like I did the first time a discovered the series. Every Digimon that joined my team made an impact on me and I wanted them all to be the best they can be. The game can be frustrating, but in the end there’s nothing like raising two healthy Digimon. The old mechanics of the Digimon World franchise prove to stand the test of time and can now be experienced by a new generation of gamers to discover and immerse themselves for hours in the digital world.

Digimon World:Next Order is a bright, slow-paced game that intermixes a open-world RPG with monster raising to great success. Refreshingly simple and fun, the game overcomes some issues with AI to be a surprisingly addictive title. With team based battles focused on strategy and plenty of exploration, Digimon World: Next Order provides solid content worth a look.

A new RPG adventure game for PS4 based on the digital creatures of Digimon. A bit predictable and plain, but attractive enough for Digimon fans.

Digimon World: Next Order is another, different take on the digital world than the one Cyber Sleuth took. Even if we could put aside the visuals, combat mechanics are just a mistake. The only truly redeemable aspect is the digivolve, pretty comfortable, but devs can't pretend we spend all our time just looking for new digivolutions. If you want a really good, and interesting adventure, we recommend you play last year's entry.

I just can't have much fun playing this, at all. The first 20 minutes were not bad, but not good either. The gameplay is way to complicated,I just can't have much fun playing this, at all. The first 20 minutes were not bad, but not good either. The gameplay is way to complicated, and I messed up a bunch early on. The Digimon selection is awesome though, the more the better. The story was very boring, and the voice acting and character animations don't help. The graphics were pretty bad also, and seemed like older games. I didn't have any fun playing, so I won't recommend it. Full Review »

I love this game don't get me wrong but I honestly could not recommend it to my friends that aren't Digimon fans running on nostalgia.

The music is nice, but the entire overworld running to the same beat doesn't work for me. I played Digimon World to get into their World. To hear those sounds of the jungle and the sounds of the night. It's the little things this game doesn't have that make me really sad. How hard would it have been to record a fake Digital World night? Crickets and some digimon calls and some low low piano music or the sounds of the ocean or the sounds of grass blowing. I can see that love went into this game, but it was the little things that made Digimon World 1 a success for centuries and kept it in our hearts. I'm 27 turning 28 and I still to this day pick up my game and play it.

I can maybe forgive that the training is literally the Digimon standing there while you spam the button and they get tired for no reason (really I miss those training animations even though you could skip them), but what I find unforgivable is that horrible excuse for a fishing minigame. How did that pass quality inspection? It looks like someone made it in flash. Or worse. Paint and they just pressed the arrow keys back and forth. Even the first game (made for PS1 more than a decade ago) treated fishing like a real relaxing event - to enjoy the scenery. And all those amazing secrets hidden in plain sight! Wondering what is that dark shadow in the water.. but this one plays more like a spammy MMO and has all the characters that can join your city super obvious. They tell you exactly what they need.

I'm enjoying the game, but it doesn't leave me feeling like I just visited another world. I don't miss my Digimon. There's less of an impact on me when they die. And what is that clock thing... why didn't they bring back the old clock? Now we get this clock that everytime I look at it it brings me back into my own world. I guess I'm speaking from a nostalgic point of view, but that's exactly what this game panders to. If they're trying to bring people into the fold that have never played Digimon before, they should've fixed the little things. Especially right now because Digimon Tri is airing and people love it.

Please patch these issues and I will change my review in a heartbeat. Show us you care. Put in some hidden things and don't just have everyone standing there. Remember Vadermon? I remember passing by there so many times wondering what the heck that was.. and that Teddymon suit? There was mystery in the adventure that this game doesn't have. I feel let down. Also really... the potty covering was unnecessary. Did someone get offended by that? Everytime that happens I feel like someone slapped me in the face. Would it have been so hard to animate a curtain and the Digimon simples pulls it to cover themselves?

This game is Digimon World, but it plays more like Digimon World MMO On A Budget with an expansion pack called They Keep Bringing Me Back To My World.

I can't recommend this game as it is. And I want to; so badly. I want people to love Digimon like I do. But there's zero mystery here. It's not an adventure into the Digital World. It's you playing just another game.
