This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, i have been playing this game for some days, and i'm really enjoying it. The gameplay is so good, the precision of the aim is great, the feeling of playing Destiny is awesome. The music is one of the best things of this game, it's a master piece, Paul Maccartney thank you!!. This game just have some issues, like the story, it should be a little bit well told, and the interactions with other players it's not so good. But, overall, it's a great game, and i'm having lots of FUN, this game is a must have. Expand

Easily a top tier game, many reviews are negative because of little play time or pre-patch written, Bungie is now listening to the community, making updates and overall improving the experience not to mention that the graphics are amazing, I definitely recommend this title. Everything might not be as perfect as we had hoped, but at least Bungie tried something different. In the future, competitors in the FPS genre will be assuredly be trying to lift some of the ideas from Destiny to add some mmo-ness into their own games.

As an exclusive PlayStation owner, I've never had the opportunity to play Halo. I've seen game play footages and loved the art direction and game mechanics that Bungie has created for Halo. So when I first learned that Bungie was creating a new FPS that will also be released for the PlayStation, I was anxious for the game to come out.

Picking up the game, and playing the first few missions. I felt like this game was going to be great. The game play was smooth, the FPS prospect of it was amazing, and who could complain about the next gen graphics? I couldn't wait to get through the missions, leveling my character and experiencing the end game content.

That was the first day the game came out. Ever since that day. I have no clue what the hell happened. After a few days, I've hit level 20. Yay, right? Unfortunately not. Every single mission that I played through was the same as the previous one. Sure, the scenery has changed; but you're doing the same thing over and over. Not to mention when you beat the final mission, you're left even more clueless. WTF happened/ The story was a piece of crap. I've read better stories on Reddit by users with a better plot and story line than Destiny.

Just to be clear, level 20 isn't exactly the max level you can hit. It's just the max level you can hit by experience. You can actually level up to 30 with gears. In which you can to grind the same mission (weekly heroic/nightfall) or do the same 5 strikes over and over again. You would also think that for the strikes that requires PS+ and a group of 3 to play together. That there'd be more of a challenge. But that's not the case with Destiny. It's the same grind and defend and sponge mode boss all over again. At least their raid is fun. After you've ran it once. Then it's all the same thing over and over again.

Another terrible thing about Destiny. Is their RNG. You could run the raid every week and chances are you'll never get the gears that you want, because most of the time it'll just be shards. Legendary cryptarchs rarely drops. So you've left with farming the strikes to get vanguard marks to buy the legendary gears. Too bad they're capped at 100 per week, so you'd have to run the strikes dozens of time per week just to upgrade your character.

There's a lot of things wrong with the game. Lack of story line. Repetitive game play. Daily grind and farming. You could argue that that's all you do with any other RPGs and MMOs The thing is, those RPG and MMOs are actually fun and rewarding with incredible character development. Destiny is none of those things.

Another thing is.. people tend to call Destiny an MMO. I can't say that it is. You're grouped with 2 other people for strikes and the weekly nightfall. You're group with 5 others for the raid which you can only run once per week. You can group with 2 others to do patrol (all of which are the same). And there's a limit of 16 people total that can be in the tower (that you can't even communicate with). So no, it's far from an MMO.

Also, I'm not buying that there's more content in future DLCs and that Bungie plans for Destiny to be a 10 year game. No, I spent $67 on Destiny, I expect $67 worth of a game without the need to pay more just to get more of the game that should have been there from the start.

It spent a small fortune. And Destiny has lots of promise. The worlds are large and open as well as visually stunning. The mechanics are standard for anyone familiar with Halo multiplayer with some twists. Combat is familiar with responsive weapons each with their own feel and super moves that add variation and enjoyment. Movement is easy with a combination of gliding, double jumping, and star wars style speeders. And you have the ability to customize you're guardian with three classes and an array of visual aesthetics. But when you get to the heart of it, aesthetics and visual appeal are what Destiny is all about. It looks good and feels good at first until you realize what's missing. This is highlighted by the ship you fly. You can buy new ships which you can use to... distract yourself from the frequent load screens you'll be experiencing. You also have your choice of weapons to choose from: a 5 round revolver (why would guns evolve to less efficient?), a semi-auto rifle, or a single action rifle. Three distinct main weapon types is all. But wait, there are the special weapons: the overpowered shotgun, an efficient sniper rifle, or the almost useless in multiplayer fusion rifle. Plus a rocket launcher or machine gun for a heavy weapon. You cannot customize these, merely unlock perks already loaded to certain weapons, so if you like the way a low level weapon's scope felt, it may take a while to get that feeling again. There are a few multiplayer modes but only and handful of stages and no character progression. To be accurate, your multiplayer character is the same as your single player character. You do get multiplayer specific marks to buy high level gear but there are definitely a limited number of sets and high level players begin to look very similar. Get a good shotgun and you can easily dominate or you'll find yourself waiting by the heavy ammo spawn because they always drop at the same locations. When you do well in multiplayer you may not be rewarded with a drop. The rewards are based on how often you play, not necessarily how well. As far as the single player story, Peter Dinklage is the highlight and even he can tend to drone on (pun intended). The missions are highly repetitive. For one, you start are the same points depending on the world you're on. You use your speeder to fly back to familiar spots, crawl through a cave filled with the same enemies throughout the rest of the world you're on, then mow down wave after wave (and sometimes a giant boss with a longer life bar) while your Ghost phases into objects to download the next file to explain something that doesn't make complete sense unless you go to Bungie's website to read the extensive lore. To be fair, the lore IS extensive, but presented in such a passive manner that it's largely unappreciated. It highlights how awkwardly the story is presented. You're highly customized guardian is largely silent and always emotionless. His or her story is fairly mundane for a game called Destiny. Lastly, the most egregious error is that Destiny is released as a game that's DLC maintained. The game wasn't complete at the time of release or even adequately tested. There's story content promised for a subscription fee and multiplayer content, weapons, and drops are all still being adjusted and nerfed. Wanting to adjust mechanics and gameplay to improve the experience is one thing, but Destiny's creators seem to lack a clear endgame (again pun intended). The events are admirable attempts to keep people playing mirrored after ME3's multiplayer challenges. Unfortunately, rewards require hours of participation to yield significant rewards and the replay value is lower than COD or BF because multiplayer lacks customization or valuable rewards. It's an attempt to mix the Halo multiplayer experience with that of other first person shooters that results a moderately enjoyable, unmemorable, and fairly unrewarding experience. At level 28 (of 30) with the campaign finished, most of the group raids run, and hours of multiplayer are under my belt, I'm profoundly disappointed with this new IP. Many are defending Destiny by saying it's going to get better or more content is coming or it's unfair to give a bad score because it's not finished. I think it's only right to give Destiny a score for what it is and not what it can be or what we or Bungie want it to be. Expand

There's very little variation on the same theme. In fact, every mission within a world starts at the same spot so you ride the same path to the next part of the dungeon you just crawled through. The end of the campaign is as unremarkable as your nameless and almost voiceless champion. The multiplayer is adequate but nothing special with no progression and loot drops that seem independent of you actual performance. It doesn't stack next to the playability of the other top tier first person shooters. The game has its share of server glitches. Bungie continues to tweak guns for pvp, often overdoing it. The reward system is a tad daft. You can't play the character you choose and expect to max out your level with skill. It's luck. The game gave me gear for classes I was not playing and so my chosen class remains at 29 and the secondary characters have gear that will level to 30. I added these characters simply to make use of the gear that dropped for them.

People with more skill and more hours than I have get barely any good drops and are also thwarted from leveling up.

While the dlc is held out as more content is coming, it is hard to see how a few more maps and a raid are going to patch up the non existent story and barren gameplay environments.

And sound. How is it that huge monsters can stomp up behind you and not be heard?

Just there. It's not a bad game and for some reason I keep going back to it just pushing a bit further, but none of the expectations I had for this game were met. Single player missions felt repetitive and the story still does not make any sense.

On the other hand, strikes are enjoyable and raids are challenging. And while we wait for the big November releases, this is an ok option.

Over-hyped. I've played way more the 20 hours...The feel of the guns are spot on, just nothing new about them and little to choose from. For a futuristic fighter one would have thought the weaponry would have been up to speed. After getting your first player level 24+ , doing it again for another just seems like a waste of time. Leveling past 26 is more of luck than skill. Example, beatOver-hyped. I've played way more the 20 hours...The feel of the guns are spot on, just nothing new about them and little to choose from. Leveling past 26 is more of luck than skill. Example, beat VoG , be on top of list for kills, least deaths and don't get anything impressive drops, but the guy at the bottom of the stats gets sweet gear, wtf. Big bosses don't give big drops. In Borderlands you at least knew big bosses would drop at least one legendary. Story, blah. Missions, blah. Slight differences in characters with no real gains by abilities. the whole thing just misses and I think they wanted it that way..it's like the devs want you to errk'd about the game. Creativity..fail..open world..fail player development...blah. You MUST have friends to play with. Loading times...good for a long pee. I gave it a 4 for the gun feel (best ever)and quick game play. the social is worthless and having to go back to orbit to select another mission..then wait...and wait...is a waste of time. So repetitive. same missions, same bounties, same NPC, same events. come back tomorrow for more of the same.If the story was compelling, getting the DLC's would make sense. Getting them just to have some new landscape, no. NONONO. I wish I had waited to get this game..course then I wouldn't have and I'd have been a happier soul . Got it day 1 and already bored. I can be such a fool at times Expand

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
