Unoriginal console shooter that brings nothing new to the table. Instead this game rides with the same CoD 4 gameplay and adds few RolePlayingGame and Halo elements. Boom! Brand new game.

Destiny is a 20 minute game attached to a 2 year gear grind.

The game doesn't really possess a plot to speak of, which doesn't stop it from interrupting the gameplay far too often with useless narration. EVERY mission in this game is an identical copy of the one before. I can't stress that enough, every mission in this game is the same. Go to a location, activate a terminal, then

That's it.

The quests are boring, the story is nonexistent and so is the loot. The rewards system is just asinine, do not expect to be rewarded for any time or effort placed into this 'game'.

All in all, Destiny isn't a game, it's a cluster of DLC pretending to be a game, and it's more than happy to take you along for the ride.

This game is NOT what it seems to be. I felt disappointed when I first played after all that video promotions. To me it's just another pure shooter, but what is worst about it is the way everybody sells it as: THE GAME.

This is not THE game, as it is not a next gen either.

RPG leveling/stat building loot system? Frivolous, random, rote, overly grindy.
PvP multiplayer? Unfinished, gloriously imbalanced, been-there-done-that, glitchy.

I should have seen this coming from Activision regardless who actually developed it because otherwise it's hard to imagine Bungie was actually involved.. It's the same boring, repetitive, unintelligent mess that has become (and continues to perpetuate) Call of Duty. No actual thought went into play testing, reflection, or common sense mechanical decision making.

A perfect example of everything fundamentally wrong with this game is the story. Clocking in at around 10 hours, it ends exactly how it starts- no characters, no point, no plot, and so full to the brim of watered down sci fi psychobabble every single loading screen consists of nothing but disjointed terms that mean nothing and sound ridiculous. "A ketch!", "Queen of bleh", "the darkness bluh", "A koris!", "Storm of Struvock", "The tinkle of flub"... I've read better science fiction on the back covers of JA pulp novels at the public library.

Once you finish the entirely anticlimactic story (not that you cared anyway), what else is there?

Well, if you've got a couple of friends and you like playing overly drawn out horde mode missions that you've already completed in the story campaign you might find a couple hours of fun in the "Strike" playlists. The first thing you'll notice is that most of the post game gear you have is now completely useless so look forward to replaying the same hour long boss fights over and over in the hopes you'll randomly get better gear just to play the same missions on a higher difficulty*. You'll do this until you realize you can get more and better drops in 20 minutes of PvP than you could in several hours of PvE.

*Difficulty is completely relative by the way as every single enemy in this game (besides the basic minions) has splash damage based attacks and no amount of armor will stop you from getting killed repeatedly from enemies who don't even need to shoot you. Enemies who's AI doesn't at all improve with difficulty, only their egregiously large heath bars. This all presupposed you have a few friends because good luck meeting new people thanks to the convoluted and painful "fireteam" system.

When you do find that drops are much more plentiful in PvP you can spend hours getting pissed off over horrendously lazy, mind blowingly imbalanced, shoddily designed mechanics in one of a couple modes. You have TDM, Domination, and variants of 3v3 slayer.

TDM is about what you'd expect from CoD- spawn in some random place and run around for a few moments before getting insta-killed by a jumping rocket, a hilariously far-reaching lunge melee attack, or any number of head-scratchingly overpowered "super" attacks.

Domination (called "control" here) can be fun if it wasn't for some of the worst map design in FPS history. No hyperbole- every single map was designed solely with spawn trapping in mind. There will be two points in a somewhat close proximity with direct, safe lanes of view to a third, proportionately farther away point. If you start on the good side and cap both close points, victory is pretty much a given as you can stand behind cover and easily pick off the enemy as they spawn over and over too far away to cap another point. Not that it matters when a single super attack can completely secure (or stop) a point capture with zero effort.

I wont talk about the third mode because ultimately it doesn't matter. The fact is the PvP side of things is at best broken and at worst non-functional. Watch in rage inducting glee as you: get killed by supers through walls, enemies mysteriously take no damage at opportune times, are unable turn your head to look around you (even with your sensitivity on blast), get stuck on map terrain, get match made 2v6, constantly have players quit mid match with no penalty, struggle to navigate map poor design, constantly fight with the most aggressive sticky-aim in gaming history (and still not hit anything), and drop dead before an enemy actually attacks OR kill enemy players only to watch them run around and shoot at you for full seconds before they finally die.

According to Bungie.net I've played Destiny for almost 24 hours stretched across 3 days and I've seen absolutely everything this game has to offer already; every mission, map, mode, and weapon. I've seen at least enough to know that there isn't enough content to keep my interest and no matter how much (or across how many modes) I play "The Crucible" it doesn't get any better.

The biggest con in video games history. P t barnum once said that a sucker was born each minute and Destiny is further proof of that. Activision and bungie are laughing and rolling in mountains of cash. 500 million day one sales, for an insubstantial bit of rubbish that's closer to dried bird droppings scraped from a shoe than to a playable video game. Well done gentlemen.

"Many generations ago (shortly after present day), the emergence of a gargantuan construct known only as "the Traveler" ignited a Golden Age of technology and exploration for humanity.

The Golden Age would last for centuries, but human civilization fell victim to a cataclysm of extraordinary magnitude, known as the Collapse. A malicious entity known as The Darkness, an ancient enemy of the Traveler, waged a campaign of destruction against civilization. Few managed to survive the devastation. The Traveler is now silent and dormant, while those who survived united to build The City beneath it, establishing the last bastion of civilization in the solar system."

500 million dollars and this is the best they could do. Notice I didn't capitalize those nouns; those are the names they gave their characters, their locations, their foes. If that doesn't tell you that this game lacks any sort of creativity I don't know what would.

The gunplay is slick, the worlds look great, it can be challenging. Where's the soul of the game though? If this is supposed to sit on my shelf next to LotR and Star Wars, where's the imagination? It reminds of when Ubisoft said they had Assassin's Creed "down to a science". Sure it may play well and be incredibly stable and graphically rich, but it has no longevity or emotional conviction. It's soul less corporate trash, and that's what's wrong with this game.

If you enjoy a competent shooter and do not need a deep plot or characters that matter, then you can enjoy Destiny for what it is. The rest of us were promised something more, much more. They failed to deliver anywhere near what they had said they would, and so their ratings shall fail so they will know we hold them to their promises.

First of all - it is not an MMO. 3 player missions and 6 player pvp and one single 6 person raid with no matchmaking is not Massive Multiplayer. Clans are pointless - theres no in game integration such as seeing a clan roster, adding/booting/promoting members, having a clan dojo, etc.

Theres no singleplayer - all raids force you into a team of two randoms and theres no proximity chat , and multiplayer "public" areas are populated with only 2 or 3 scrubs at a time. Public events are a joke and you will solo them in 30 seconds flat. The story is confusing and pointless. You never fight any darkness, only space zombies and robots. The final boss is floating black diarrhea and feels out of place. The raid is complete bullshlt and a waste of a good 20 hours. Rather than punish you for messing up like Dark Souls, it just punishes you for playing.

PVP is a waste since theres no ranking, no ranked matches, and no hardcore mode without supers and perks. Theres actually only 2 modes - killing and control a circle while killing. No flag, no oddball, no bomb, no objective. And when you win you get nothing, yet kids that AFK or suck get exotics. The loot system is broken and will drive you mad.

The formula for Destiny is 75% farming a cave, and 25% watching loadscreens. I wish I could get my money back but I bought Digital. -10 out of 10

PVP is horrible, they refuse to fix any of the issues. Supers and radar are just ridiculous in PvP and everybody just abuses it. I would really like a game mode without either but that would be hoping for too much from Bungie. Drop rates on items are better now but getting the best gear has to be done in the raid. I've completed the raid 6 times now on multiple characters (different classes) and have yet to get one piece of armor (only shards and energy). So here I am stuck on the 5th week without having any of the highest light gear. You can imagine how frustrating that can be when most of your friends are level 30 already. But it's ok, I guess you can make another character of the same class to try and get more raid gear. That about sums up how broken the raid is.

Moving on, the one thing I was excited for was Iron Banner event and that is even more broken then standard PVP. Not to mention the fact that it is only control ATM which is by far one of their worst game modes. Everyone just camps back with *wait for it* vex exotic fusion rifles and shotguns. No matter what you do, you can't outdamage a vex exotic rifle in PvP with another primary. Over 200+ crucible and iron banner games and I have yet to get a legendary or exotic drop. Really? I regularly finish at the top of the room only to find out I got nothing for being better than everyone else. But it's ok, we will give that guy who is 4 and 17 an exotic autorifle, he needs it more than you.

To sum it up, this is the most socialist-communist game EVER F***ING MADE that makes everyone just as good as everyone else. It's all about catering to every type of player and making sure no matter how bad you are, you will never be left behind. I'm sorry but I'm sick of games going down this path. This is not how Bungie use to do things especially with the competitive multiplayer system they once had their Halo games.

They keep saying this game will never be like Halo which is a problem because Halo scored near 100/100 scores from many reviewers yet this one is getting barely over 75 from critics. Obviously you aren't doing something right and it shows on your game. The fundamentals are there, the gameplay is there, but the finished product is lacking in any sort of meaningful content besides the same raid you can do every week, the same 6 strikes you can do over and over, and the same broken piece of s*** that is the PvP. I am truly sad that this game didn't reach its potential because I loved all the Halo games. This game just tried to be too many things and cater to too many people instead of doing what it did the best.

If you wonder why I give this game a zero is because the story is clearly not finished and has no purpose, other than to get you to level 20. In general, all the missions have no meaning to it therefore this game has no meaning to me, therefore the zero. Oh, did I mention the PvP? Yeah...so done with this game, what a pile of crap from one of my favorite companies of all time. Oh how times have changed....

This game is pretty much a poor mans Borderlands. Its simple. Kill enemies, get loot, kill more enemies, get "better" loot that is just a reskin of previous loot, but with a different color.

Missions are literally the same thing over and over again. Kill waves of enemies, protect the robot or kill waves of enemies while protecting the robot. or kill waves of enemies, while protecting the robot while fighting a boss. THis is just flat out terrible and being lazy.

No, MatchMaking or LFG. When you get to the end game content, you better have friends who own and play Destiny, because if you don't, you are pretty much beat and wont eb able to beat any of it. Other players are already in Strike Teams, so its pretty much impossible to do any of the end game content...unless you enjoy leaving and coming back and leaving and coming back to your home planet just to invite people to your strike team in hopes of them actually joining it.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
