Destiny is everything that I expected, and more. I'm not quite sure if I was just all the hype, but the reviews are unjustly negative. I can't help but compare it to my favorite games, such as Borderlands, Skyrim, and of course Halo. The game wows me every time I play it. In the end, don't we just play games to have fun? No, it's not perfect, but Destiny is downright fun!

Solid game. Would like to see more locales. Too much barren waste land. The Dink's voice direction was sub-par. Overall I am greatly enjoying this. I see it more as a great start than a finished product, typical of most MMO's (or MMO style). Can't wait to see what will come from Destiny/Bungie.

Okay, let's get started. It's 2014, four years since Bungie Studio's last game release: Halo: Reach. Since then, the company split from Microsoft and went on to seek new endeavors. It's 2014, four years since Bungie Studio's last game release: Halo: Reach. Since then, the company split from Microsoft and went on to seek new endeavors. That's where Destiny comes in. Destiny has a simple premise, you are known as a "Guardian", protecting humanity, which has been driven back by alien races, and you know stand at the last city of Earth. You choose one of three classes, Titan, Warlock, or Hunter. Next, you choose your race, Awoken, Human, or Exo. This is a pretty standard layout for an MMO but Destiny takes it to a whole new level by involving something we all love -- guns. Destiny is definitely a solid MMORPGFPS if that is what you choose to call it. It feels like "Halo" felt before, but strips away the icon of Master Chief and lets you build your own legend. It has different planets and different gamemodes, such as story missions, strikes (layered battles with oncoming waves of enemies, best done with friends and leave you with rewards), raids (like strikes but can take hours or days, much better rewards and much more in depth when it comes to tactics and organization), and of course the crucible (online multiplayer). Destiny is visually appealing, has optimal customization leaving you searching for more gear and loot, and has enemies from different backgrounds. Despite having a short story selection it has endgame options that allow you to extend your enjoyment of the game. Destiny has weaknesses as well as strengths though. Although it is a mass-mulltiplayer online game, communication is lacking as you can only voice chat within your fireteams (Emotes are your only other option). The story missions can be quite repetitive, and there is not as much personality within the characters as was seen in the Halo series. The loot reward system is flawed as well, decrypting high level engrams usually leaves you with less-than-stellar gear. Despite these issues, Destiny is a fun and engaging experience that I would recommend one at least try. Bungie will be adding more content in the future as well, so don't expect early reviews like mine to sum up the game in its entirety. Bungie has created a very expandable game that will most likely expand as time goes on. Expand

This game is great. Beautiful and very addicting. I'm not sure why the internet wants to hate this game, but don't believe it. This is my favorite FPS for the PS4 yet.

This game molds the most unique and innovative franchise ive ever played (Borderlands) and adds some of the aspects they probably aimed to have implemented into it originally into a so called next gen game - wait for borderlands 3 on next gen it will probably boot this out of the park with a budget half the size a team of half the size and a game that would more than likely have x3 more content

Hey, some people want a game for a expansive story. Being it was from the makers of Halo it is fair to have assumed that Destiny would of been a huge involved story. The lore is there, the characters are there but you don't really feel connected to the story.

There are some repetitive gameplay elements. Escort ghost, ghost hacks computer, and then horde mode begins. I am not really worried about this as much as some people are....it reminds me very much of Diablo where you farm for gear in a story mode environment. Some have also compared it to Phantasy Star Online as well.

With my cons out of the way, let me just say that this game is fun. The fun factor trumps and can forgive the few cons that I have. This may not be the same case for everyone, but running around blowing heads off gaining loot, upgrading gear, grinding factions, doing strikes with friends, doing crucible with friends, and just exploring for the chests and dead ghosts is the most fun I have had with a game in a very very long time.

The music and sound effects in the game are great. The sound is immersive and you can hear the mobs all around you, the machines that fire their weapons. The large mobs sound large, the small mobs sound small. The snozberries taste like snozberries....it is great fun.

Some people are going to hate to just hate. In my 30 years of living I have realized there are just negative people out there who pick apart everything. If you can find something good and and enjoyable in the game and it keeps you playing then play it. Instead of finding things that make you miserable find things that make you happy in life. I believe this game haves a little of everything for everyone so....

If you are not one of the millions of people who already have bought the game and you read this write up...then I say it is worth the $60.00. And if you do get it, then I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

The nicest way of putting this is "they left plenty of room for improvement." "Destiny" has the makings of something great, but all of the greatness has not been made yet, and Bungie should listen attentively to the more reasonable negative player feedback that they've received. That said, I'm continuing to enjoy the game, and think that its graphical fidelity, fun gameplay style, and overall gorgeous presentation makes it well worth playing.

    What's good:
-Great overall feel for an FPS.
    -Cool weapons and armor.
    -Space magic.
    -Beautiful Environments.
    -Great voice cast.
    -Simple but consuming leveling system.
    -More space magic.
    -Dinklage

    What's bad:
-Poorly explained universe: This game needed a codex like Mass Effect, which leads me to...
-Grimoire Cards: Dear Bungie, don't make me use a web browser to look at the cards that somewhat explain the universe. That is all.
-Remember that great voice cast? Now imagine a game where they barely say anything...except for Dinklage.
-A story that is most definitely about something, I think. Maybe? It wasn't so great.
    -Total lack of character development.
    -Limited Loot.
    -Level cap too low.

Even with the list of gripes above (which are by no means the extent of them), I still like "Destiny" a lot. Bungie has created a breathtaking game world, and it seems like the sort of world that's designed to be expanded, and so I think there's a pretty good chance that the "Destiny" universe will be expanded to include more planets and (hopefully better) stories in the future. It's a very fun experience overall, and while it didn't quite live up to all the hype, its strengths outweigh its weaknesses by far.

This game provided me with tons of fun, It gave me the feel of when I first played Halo and added the mmo aspect. Even with most of my game time was playing by myself, I really enjoyed the game play. With the open events to the Strike Missions that provided plenty of loot and xp, and now the 6 player raids that just came out, I am excited to see what is to come to the great journey of Destiny
I do have some cons for this game. I play most of my games on pc, but I went out and bought an Xbox one for this game. I do wish there was some type of chat to make it easier to group up. I do know there are websites out there to help with the community and grouping that you can join, and I will certainly be looking into that. But over all I really enjoyed this game and still do.

The missions themselves feel a bit repetetive and the story that is told throughout the game feels a bit lackluster but the great gunplay keeps you interested and engaged during the missions and there is just enough story to make you want to know more about the world.

Where the game shines is in all the elements it takes from MMOs. A loot system that is part chance and part effort, dungeon runs with pick up groups and fast PVP that's either objective based or (team) deathmatch.

The technical side is also flawless. Graphics, sound and music are out of this world and the networking seems solid, I at least didn't get disconnected even once. The action is also very well designed with the guns and special abilities having just the right feel to it.

All in all I would rate Destiny 7.5, but since that's not possible here and since I'm gonna give it some props for the potential it shows for future expansion I'm gonna round up to 8.

Destiny has had a hard time with critics, and this is largely down to marketing and over-hyping of the game.

I admit I was disappointing after playing for a few hours. Once I had been to the tower a couple of times, done a few missions on earth and the moon and dabbled in pvp it became clear that destiny was an amazing, beautiful fluid game but nowhere near as expansive or grand as advertised and certainly not what I would call an mmo. However once I had set my initial expectations aside and started appreciating destiny for what it currently is I began to love it. The gun play mechanics are flawless and fluid, the graphics are gorgeous and the strikes are intense and at times heart-pounding, a couple times I cheered out loud after completing a difficult strike run with a pug group. Like I mentioned before though destiny has not lived up to it's full potential(as advertised), the story is lacking and for me the biggest downside, but after giving the game time it seems like the emptiness might be intentional on Bungies part. Clearly this is a world that is meant to be filled and will be by future updates and I plan on sticking with the game. At the moment I am having a great time mixing it up with pvp and pve and gearing up to take on that future content and hope Bungie really unlock the great potential this game has.

This game is different. Let's get that out of the way. Everyone will have an opinion of what it is and what it is not. To me, this is a FPS dungeon crawler that lacks in story but makes up for in game play and loot. Multiplayer is bare bones but yet is very fun. Some core items are missing but this game will evolve over time. Even with these items currently not in the game, I can't stop playing.

This game is very fun, albeit the missions are pretty repetitive. As many people have stated, the story is a bit short but many other features have made up for this. I'll keep this short, here's a list of the 5 best things that make the game so great.

    1. Tons of loot
    2. A good balance of PvE and PvP
    3. Lots of end game content
    4. World events
    5. Graphically, it's amazing

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For all the ppl that are negative about this game you have your own right to be. I have heard the "Borderland knock off comment" the "Its story is worse the CoD or BF".

I can only say a few words this game for me is amazing.. I have roughly 3 days in game time on this and I have yet to get sick of it! Honestly I went into this with the typical MMO idea in my head to begin with. The whole grinding to get gear I expected, there are very few games that give instant gear out and hell if you want to cry about having to grind for gear then do so but please dont rag on a game because that is your biggest problem with it.

The story may not have been the "best" story out there but they are releasing more and more as time goes by it. The Events that Bungie puts out is for a reason. ^.^

For those of you who are looking for a game like CoD, BF, or any other FPS based game with a ton of pvp thats it just stick to those games. This game goes in depth with so much more then just that, by bringing in Strikes "Dungeons" and Raids in the mix and by adding the need to grind strikes or the Crucible "PvP" to raise rep to get it makes it a game to check out. THERE WILL NOT BE FREEBIES! Even when you get full Legendary/Exotic gear your grind will not be done you still have to get the mats to upgrade it.

My last and final note... If you are looking for handouts of gear this is not a game for you... however if you are looking for a game that you can get lost in for hours and have a blast finding new people to play with and just the basic MMO experience then this is definitely a game to check out.

Give it a try and if you like it Awesome! If you dont thats fine too but I urge everyone to try this game! You may find out that other people just want to hate to hate!

Good Luck and I hope to see you all ingame!!!

Playing with friends also helps, as you're always congratulating/competing with them on new gear, rare materials, or even their general character level. Your friend is a higher level than you? I guess you'll have to play more story, strikes, patrols, or crucible. Want to buy that sweet new piece of gear, but don't have the required rank? Time to grind some games in the particular game type. It is an addicting structure that truly tries to blend FPS with MMO.

Does it succeed in doing so? Not quite. MMO gamers will feel that the lack of depth isn't there to keep them participating in end-game events. Is it a balanced FPS? I would argue no, but it isn't a failure in that department either. Destiny is still too young to know if it will truly grab the attention of MMO gamers and FPS players. For now, I think casual and invested gamers will find Destiny to be a wonderful change of pace. For the hardcore genre of whatever classification? Work still needs to be done in order to merit greatness.

And thats the catch. Stray too far in the MMO game structure, casual players will be overwhelmed and generally confused. Place too much emphasis in FPS mechanics, and you'll disengage MMO gamers. And if you're pacing is too slow and unbalanced, all gamers will lose interest.

So it will be very interesting to see how Destiny holds up, even up to the holiday season. Oh, and a lot of gamers looking for a grand story will need to either dig past the in-game options that are presented, or just pass judgment on the lack of backstory. It is disheartening to see that the story wasn't fleshed out as much at it could have been.

Bungie did market Destiny to have all of those things, and I wholeheartedly agree that the theme of this page is "lacking", but give Bungie a break. They may not have given us the game that we all expected, but what they did give us was a game we could sit down and play for a few minutes, or a few hours while still feeling fulfilled. There were several times where me or my buddies would literally say "woah" or "that's pretty cool" just from the detailed skylines and backdrops alone.

Regardless of your feelings for Destiny specifically, I would urge you to support gaming companies like Bungie and Activision who take huge financial risks to take on projects like this, on a scope never before seen, in hopes that they can give gamer's something new and amazing. Even if you happen to think they swung and missed on a certain game. Companies like EA have become borderline criminal in the way they cost cut and strip down games and servers while using misleading marketing and hype to swindle that next $70 from you. Reward the guys who take the chance, and stop giving your money to the guys who shovel you the bare minimum and spoon feed you micro transactions.

The graphics are incredible and smooth. The playability feels great. The story, meh OK so you have me there. The difficulty is awesome because it makes you work for what you get. The character customization leaves something to be desired but since you only look at your toon while in tower, I could care less. I like the fact that there is no chat. No need to worry about people linking their abilities followed/preceded by "anal". No trolling, spamming none of that nonsense. One thing I will say that is frustrating beyond all description is how blues and purples decode to greens. If you want those items to be rare, fine but manage that by the drop rate. The PvP seems pretty unbalanced but IMO, PvP in an MMO-ish game is pointless. I know some people love it but it's not my thing.

    Now for the rant...

I can't see why there is so much hatred for this game. Oh wait, I remember, all the kiddos that are used to the instant gratification provided by worthless excuses for video games like WoW. I'm so sorry Bungie won't give everyone purple gear on their first run. I guess it's because you got a trophy for riding the pine in little league. I also like Space themed maps of Destiny. On PS4 they really make you believe you are wandering on Moon and gives you feel that you are on a alien soil.
Bungie has made a great mixture from action, rpg and fps genres.
What makes for example Path of Exile( Another great Action/Rpg with isometric graphics) also valid for Destiny too. Both games have created addictive mechanics with their own terms.
In Destiny, you will also have Fps, Great Graphics, and also Space and SciFi theme!
My only complain is Death doesn't have serious consequences on Destiny. I mean Your armour doesn't get lower stats because of your death or so on.
In re spawn restricted places when you die other enemies who you killed before will re spawn but that's it.
I would like to see some decrease of my items when I die. This would make this already addictive game
    much more addictive.
Still Destiny has made me said that happily I've purchased a PS4 as a younger brother for my gaming pc :) .
Cause, It would be unfortunate for a gamer like me to miss such unique game.

Destiny, as hyped as it got, was always looked at with wondering eyes. "what will the creators of halo bring us next" everyone asked. What we got though was not what i believe a lot of people expected. Destiny came off to me as a shooter/MMO style game. Quite a few people still refer to it as a Borderlands Ripoff, I do not. The loot system is quite literally what you expect from an MMO, long grinds, nothing promised, and everything is up in the air.

Destiny isnt the most adept at storytelling, but once it gets you out into the world things kind of come together pretty well. You will spend more time out in the wilderness, exploring for new loot and things to kill. Around level 5 is when you start getting the good loot, and it never tapers off from there. A good majority of complaints come from the fact that the game is more MMO style than typical "eventually hand you everything" kind of single player.

Now, Heres the other issue with most reviews. They keep referring to the end game as a grind...DUH!!!! Thats the point!!! the game is over, now its time to do those rep grinds, get legendary loot, and go kill raids. thats how MMOs are. yah dingus!

all in all, the game was great. it still is, its taking up all the time i have to game and much more. Im finding myself eating in front of the tv slowly so i can play. I give it an 8/10 due to its flaws which are ever so pointed out in others reviews.

Is the story bad? Yes it is. It's boring and dry, it lacks humor and it feels like something you heard a million times before. Are the missions repetitive? Yes they are, just go and shoot everything that moves, no serious brain activity necessary. Is there grinding? Yes there is, Destiny couldn't escape the horrible endgame curse.

So how the hell am I giving this game a 10? Because

I feel like many critics lost touch with the essence of gaming. Lets break down the game into categories they say, graphics, replayablity, story telling, bla bla bla... Where is the damn "fun" category? I think it's lost to most of them, some of the modern gamers too. They are running through the games, studying imperfections and missing the whole point on the way.

So in short, if you're looking for a deep involving game with a moving story, Destiny is not for you. But, if you're looking for some mindless fun, just running around shooting frantically at things that needs to die. then you'll enjoy this game. And if you like to do this with human partners or adversaries, even more so. No, this game is not perfect, far from it, it's just fun, but that's the only thing I'm aiming for when I'm playing a game.

The scenery is very well done the Moon feels more like the Moon then the Moon landing videos. If you do a bit of exploring the areas feel large and dense, not Planetside large not as much freedom either but it does offer the illusion of space with some clever art design.

The queue for match making is not long and playing with strangers while not being a social affair due to the lack of communication is not bad from a grinders perspective. Though I can see why they opted out on that outside of fire teams. Most random social voice encounters are unpleasant on games like these. Though a mute feature could clear that up if it went that route.

PVP is fun though you will get smashed until you get used to it. Its fast paced short and sweet doesn't feel like attrition.

Ok the gear drops mechanics are lackluster you don't feel rewarded for what your doing much of the time. Though if you do get something you were looking for it is quite a feeling.

The story while being very well voice acted by an all star cast does not try to explain much you sort of have to delve into the mystique your self. They didn't try to sit you through long narratives I figure its because they are also appealing to a twitch shooter audience as well as an MMO RPG. If you know people from these play styles you know a MMORPGer will get his story anywhere he can and a twitch shooter really doesn't want to watch a movie when he could be shooting at things. Its very middle of the road.

I do enjoy the game and see the work put into it as it does stand out among shooters. Since games are slim pickings on PS4 right now it will fill the void for a while. Good luck!

Bungie would be idiots if they completely finished the story for release if they expected the game to last 10 years, so they left it open to be built upon.

The PVP aspect of the game is great, far better than Halo was, and so much more going on than plain old Call of Duty (which I loved playing btw). PVE is also insanely fun and addicting, especially if you have a friend or family member to play with. I have become easily addicted to leveling up and getting new gear.

Relating this game at all to the failures that were Titanfall and Watch Dogs is ridiculous, this game is far better than both of those combined, and the statistics on play time these past couple weeks prove that.

'm gonna be honest, this game had a TON of flaws in the beginning. If you watch Angry Joe's review on YouTube, he basically hits the nail on the head and gives it a 6/10. Me personally, if I had to have given a score in the beginning, I'd have given it a 7.

Because despite its flaws, the gameplay itself was so satisfying and addicting, that I simply could not stop playing even as I was complaining about the games many missteps.

I've never been into FPS games. I was never any good at them and I just didn't really care for it's seemingly mindless shooting. The only FPS games I could ever get into had to have another element to them, such as Fallout 3, Borderlands or Farcry 3.

This game has actually ignited an interest in me for FPS games that I never thought I'd have. The gunplay is so fun that many days, I'd find myself so engrossed in the game that 8 hours would go by in a flash.

They've also just recently released a patch for the game that updates and fixes the games loot system to the point where it now feels rewarding to take part in the game's different PVE modes.

I honestly think that, if given enough time, this game will only get better with enough tweaking, patching and updates. I predict that within a year or so, I'll be giving this game a 9 or 10.

But for the time being, this game is now a solid 8/10 for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was recently asked to sum up what Destiny was like...not the story...but if I could paint a picture...but let you colour it...how would it look?
Now not all of you know the story...so simply put, there's a being called the traveler that came to us, sorry, mars, and then to us. Bringing with it enlightenment and wisdom, our race flourished and grew beyond earth, lives lasted centuries not decades...but with great light...there must be great darkness...you can guess what found us...and almost broke us...but in it's dying breath it made "Ghosts" *Think of a floating iPhone...with Peter Dinklage's voice* to seek out beings or "Guardians" that have part of the Traveler's light in them......and guess which one found you?
    DINKBOT!
    K, simple break down.
During the first few starting missions PvP (Player Vs. Player) is locked, this will give you a feel for the game, there's also a prompt to bring up your ghost, he will give you details as well as mark on your screen the direction of your mission.
Destiny is broken up into several different types of games revolving around the model of a FPS. It's wave combat, much like zombies(CoD), mixed with a hack 'n slash element of mass mobs and loot drops. It's social aspect is that any part of this game can be done with at least 2 friends, 5 at max (Raids and PvP). It also adds the idea of "raiding" from a MMO as well as the social aspect of a hub to gather, and a world where people enter and leave freely among other players. There's a Story that gives you a general idea of the factions at war (Vex, Cabal, Fallen) but as a first installment of the game the depth of this isn't what most expected, there are massive maps to explore freely in "Patrols" (When on patrols you get smaller 'Sub-missions' to kill x number of guys, scan this, do that) and during Patrols a "Public event" will happen where anyone on the map can help win it, the better you do, the better the reward. Then there's more direct "missions" and "strikes" (Strikes are harder mission with increased rewards that needs to be done with a team of 3) that can be selected from a navigation map. (Missions can be set on "Heroic" for a harder try, and better rewards)
The first 20 levels progress like any RPG, you get X amount of XP to gain a level and new abilities, your stats however are increase through guns (Intelligence for your Super, discipline for your nade, and Strength for your Melee) and armour. (Note you can increase your agility/armour/recovery through abilities gained when leveling your sub class) After lvl 20 gear comes with "Light" and you must obtain enough Light from the blues or purples (Rare and Legendary respectively) or Exotics (Yellow) the higher the light the better, as you gain more light the XP bar that was once green on your emblem is now yellow, when it fills, your level increases.
When you gain light gear it's a good idea to level it, blues are easy to lvl, they merely require saphire wire and glimmer, legendary will cost you some of the items you have to gather on patrols (Spinmetal, Relic Iron, Spirit Blossom, Helium) found on each of the planets, this then unlocks lvl 26 "Raid" (You MUST be AT LEAST 26 to try this...go ahead...try it at 24...I dare you.) instead of a standard 3 man fire team you can now have a 6 man (or woman) team and take on even harder enemies and bosses for even better gear....and always use your gained XP to level your equipment and weapons (Once you max one weapon out, when doing bounties if you favor one gun over another but want it leveled too, swap guns, only your equipped weapon gets the xp), this gives them added effects and bonuses for maximum pain dealt to the nasties trying to steal your iPhone.
PvP removes the lvl you are to balance the field, everyone shares the same base stats (however the decrease of your cool downs remains...so remember that part about your super, nade, and melee) Everyone's damage is about the same with each gun, however the stats of the gun (Stability, range, etc.) do remain, so again, remember those when gearing up for PvP.

See, I've had a general understanding of this game since we were first given a look at it. A lot of people didn't know what they were getting into. This game, as you can see above is something far different than you've ever played. It meshes the single player feel with online and does so rather well, not perfect, but that takes time.

I gave it a 10 because it is a GREAT game, the people who are negative towards the game have either bought into the rumors and other false crap disgruntled gamers have made up. Or didn't know what they were buying...and found it wasn't the game they thought it was.
As for the "Broken" aspects like that loot bug with the cave....hey...if you need to glitch/exploit/cheat to win....that's your problem...NOT mine.

At the core, Destiny is a great shooter with great gunplay and cool special powers. The "halo" effect is there but weapons have a greater feel to them, with great animations and sound. This lays the foundation for the entire game, since replaying a mission is stimulating just by the gameplay alone. The loot system furthers this by adding different stats and perks to the weapons. The skill tree is quite similar over the three classes, but small differences seperates the classes, but not enough for it to be a vital decision.

The story in the game is really good, the only, and biggest problem is that the story is badly told and leaves it up to the player to read up on his/her own. This is very similar to games like Dark souls where you as a player get some short cutscene depictning the where too, but not the why. Speaking of the single player campaign, its also vital to point out that the missions are extremly repetative. In lesser games, this would be a real issue, but my oppinion is that Destinys core gameplay is so good, that it helps the repetative story elements to be fun to play through. The story also feels like a way to get to know the gameplay and your class for multiplayer and strike/raids, which is probally where Destiny will continue to grow.

Looking at it from this perspective, its quite clear that the social part of Destiny, playing with friends, is the biggest sell point, but here it falls short yet again thanks to lacking features for pick up groups and other solutions for finding online players to team up with. Should this feature be added, it would lift the game a great deal.

Looking at multiplayer, Halo´s heritage is clear. The gameplay is yet again great, and the action intense. The ability for Bungie to add new modes on the fly makes the game very flexible, and this is why ive given Destiny a high score despite alot of shortcomings. Destiny is best viewed as a platform from which to build. Recommending people to buy a game that in time will be great sounds wierd, but its all there. Great gameplay, great story (in the background), great multiplayer and an addctive loot system makes this game worth buying just for the great fun right now, and the great potential in the coming months/years.

I have reached level 20 which is the max from XP gain, then your level progresses depending on the equipment you are wearing/using.

The Multiplayer PvP is really quite difficult to begin with, I would not recommend getting this game if you wont play through the missions to at least a reasonable level. Once I hit around level 12-13 I found the PvP a lot easier.

My favorite aspect of Destiny is the reputation system. If you explore The Tower (the home hub/social area) you'll find speakers of different groups/clan sort of things. Once you reach level 20 you can buy a cape to represent said group/clan, which when worn all reputation will go towards that group. This allows you to unlock and buy gear from that group which is leagues ahead of standard stuff.

There is a bounty system tied in with the reputation system. You may visit the bounty guy at The Tower and accept a number of bounties, such as '200 precision kills', 'kill this boss on this strike mission' etc. These give reputation and XP for your character.

The boss fights in Strike missions can be relatively long lasting and a little repetitive but this changes when you advance a few levels above their recommendation. Patrol missions are really great in my opinion. You fly to a planet and free roam the surface, accepting missions to do along the way. It gets you experience and reputation, it also opens up the area for further exploration without the distraction of mission objectives.

The loot system has been a talk of thousands of different opinions. I find that the amount of loot you receive, and the rarity of is perfect. It isn't a grind like others state, it also isn't a walk in the park, but it's frequent enough that you feel happy when you receive loot.

Overall I would highly recommend this game. If you enjoy loot-drop sort of games, like Borderlands for instance, I think you'll find a love for this game in no time.

The game really heats up around level 10, and that's when its strongpoints blossom. "Strike Missions", are similar to World of Warcraft's dungeon's experience. It really brings out the excitement due to the mysterious thought of what kind of cool armor/weapons you might pick up along the way. With that being said, the armor/weapon rating is similar to Borderlands, and WoW. White title for Basic, Green for uncommon, Blue for rare, Purple legendary, and Gold for exotic. As in WoW, can also participate in raids once you are a high enough level. The leveling system is 1-30. Once you hit level 20, and if you want to keep progressing, your level score will be based upon your gear ratings. PvP is similar to Halo, with a little CoD feel to it. Just like WoW, you can earn honor, which you can put forth towards better gear. Only downfall is PvP can be difficult, and frustrating if you are a lower level.

Just as in any game, there are its flaws. Unlike the Strike Missions, there is no queue for raiding. Its all based upon who you know, and can be a pain if you are a lone wolf type of player. Also, as I stated earlier, the repetitive missions can be dull, and null. Grinding can get old fast if you stick to the story mode, but for me. I found that doing strike missions really takes the dull edge off of it, and adds more excitement towards it.

For what I've heard, Bungie wants to turn this into a 10 year game. The game itself is in its beginning stages, but I believe if they listen to the critics, and fix what needs to be fixed, while also adding in new features, this game will really turn into something special. All in all I give this a 9/10.

Destiny throws out the old "just play multiplayer experience and level/rank up gameplay", and added a whole new element to FPS games: MMORG elements (quests, raids, etc.). These "new " mechanics for an FPS game enhances the value of the game by giving a meaningful purpose to FPS gameplay. "Grinding" is fun and rewarding, but if that isn't your cup of team, Destiny still has a solid multiplayer versus mode (the Crucible) which is similar to traditional FPS "VS mode/matchmaking".

Overall, Destiny is worth the money!

Production quality is a 10. Graphics, Music, Etc are amazing
Gameplay quality is a 10 for FPS mechanics. Better than COD or Halo
Story quality is a 5. If you need a compelling story reason to shoot the bad guy you'll be disappointed
Content quality is an 8. What is there is great, but it needs more
Additive quality is an 11 (out of 10). I've never been so addicted to a game before. I thought Skyrim was bad, this is worse. I'm sure it will cause divorces. Just one more bounty... one more weapon perk... one more daily... I've lost so much sleep playing this game.

Yes the game grinds from 20-28. Yes I've done the same missions 45 times. Yes it's a love/hate relationship. However if I stop for more than a day, I miss the stupid grind. Something magical about the formula they have.

Final thought. This game is not perfect, but it is one of the most enjoyable games I've played and it will only get better with time as they add more content and tweaks. If you read updates from the professional reviewers they all claim the game is still a "6 or 7" but they admit they can't stop playing it. That says it all.

There clearly was a lot of effort put into the design and game-play of Destiny, and it shows. Destiny has beautiful visuals, and the best FPS controls and feel of any FPS I've ever played. FULL REVIEW:

This game honestly deserves an 8 or 9, but I'm giving it a 10 to offset the stupid butt-hurt people who gave it a zero for no other reason than their personal spite. That is not how critiquing works. Just because you want your money back doesn't mean you go and unfairly evaluate the game itself and the work that went into it. There are very few games that deserve zeros. This is not one of them. This is a well-made fantastic game. I enjoy playing it.

Was it a let down? Yes, a little bit. A lot more was promised. But what was delivered still is pretty amazing. I am no fanboy of Bungie. I don't even like Halo very much. But this game combines all the interesting parts of MMORPG's and FPS's, and takes out the boring parts of both.

Do you have to grind in this game? Yes. But that's natural in an MMO. If getting exotic/end-game weapons, armor, and materials were easy, people would complain about how easily they acquired end-game items. Grinding doesn't detract from this game in my opinion. Compare the grinding in Destiny to the grinding in other MMO's like WoW. In other MMO's when you need to grind, you point and click. Point and click. Point and click. In Destiny, you aim, shoot, hide, etc... it's SO much more engaging and active. Especially when grinding in the Crucible (multiplayer).

As for the story, that is the only thing that makes me want to give the game an 8 instead of a 10. The story, well, sucks. Apparently there were higher-ups that caused a lot of issues and the story was reduced to what it is now. BUT, I'm confident they've learned what they did wrong. And I keep hearing a lot of people comparing this game to Halo and saying how Halo's story was so much better. Okay? We knew less about the covenant and Master Chief at the end of Halo: Combat Evolved than we do about the alien races in Destiny.

There are quite a few other minor issues with the game, but I will not go into them because they are the types of things Bungie is already fixing through updates. (Also typical of ANY new MMO)

This game in way, shape, or form deserves a 0. Or even a 3. There are so many worse games that deserve those numbers that were clearly made without any effort or thought. Destiny looks, and even feels like a 10-year love-letter project from Bungie. If there was someone to point fingers at for the story, it's Activision. But we have them to thank for the beautiful FPS controls. It is very obvious from the start that this game was not made in haste or without care. So don't treat it like it was. It's sad to see so many fellow gamers reduced to little cry-babies when they spent their money without reading reviews first and then complain they didn't get what they wanted. Sowwy wittle gamer babies, the world doesn't revolve around you ;)

Destiny was one of the most anticipated games for 2014, largely due to the reputation of Bungie and it's success with the Halo franchise. But, does Destiny live up to the lofty expectations of gamers, or does it fall into the dark abyss, forever to be forgotten?

After spending about 200+ hours playing Destiny on the PS4, I decided it was time to give it an accurate review based on in-depth play with everything that the game offers. Many reviewers would have you believe that Destiny is not worth the $59.99 price tag, but very few of them have managed to complete even a tiny snippet of the content in-game. While Destiny may not be the revolutionary franchise that gamers expected, it does deliver a truly refreshing IP to the FPS genre. Destiny is very similar to Gearbox's "Borderlands" franchise in that it delivers an RPG driven FPS, however, Destiny focuses more on the social / multiplayer experience than the singleplayer narrative that made Borderlands a success. As one should expect, most of your time is spent engaging enemies in a variety of futuristic locales with automated weaponry and a dash of space magic. The controls feel tight and responsive, and the shooting mechanics are reminiscent of Halo. While Destiny delivers a very well executed FPS experience, it leaves more to be desired in regards to the "RPG" portion of the game. The story is lacking, and the narrative is almost entirely non-existent. Destiny's cast of characters feel lifeless and unresponsive with very little emotion or connection to the potential narrative Bungie planned. However, for those who can look beyond the singleplayer shortcomings, Destiny delivers an engaging social experience with friends. With persistent support provided by Bungie to improve and patch the game, it is merely this franchises "Destiny" before it tops the charts as one of the most revolutionary and influential games of this generation. I truly look forward to what Bungie has planned in future DLC releases, "The Dark Below" and "House of Wolves", and recommend that you purchase this title and give it a try!

It's because Bungie can't explain the disappointing story line that is happening NOW prior to release date. My final rating would be an 8/10 (Above average). Expand

Major complaints you'll see on this title include: repetition, lack of content, glitches, stability issues, bad storytelling, and grinding.

These are all issues but not to the level many people complain. Stability issues are few and far between unless you have some major issues or incompatible ISP, but support is always available. Glitches are apparent, but rarely gamebreaking, though I have raged quite a bit at major glitches that have to be fixed that seem to be forgotten due to community needs. I understand it, but it is frustrating.

This game, whether people like it or not, has added a lot of new components to the world of console-gaming FPS. Much is borrowed in some places and not enough in others, but the world that has been created is graphically stunning and beautiful, with great tweaks, like the broken international space station high above the moon, the sheer massive size of ships, and so on. The combat is the smoothest I have ever seen.

Lack of content is offset by random drops and loot, which is a major gripe from the community, though this is nothing new. Random is how it goes, and I have heard complaints about the game being short or the game being boring, but often, these are spouted by people with 200+ hours of gameplay. And this game will keep your attention for multiple hundreds of hours. Strikes are fun, the raid is hard and worthy of raiders from any game, though it does have a lot of glitches that can end your run early.

I can spend hours on this game doing patrols and strikes, though with my characters as high as they are now, it has lost some appeal. I am very excited for much of the additions that Bungie is constantly updating and adding, but overall this game does fall short in a number of ways.

PvP is infuriating no matter how good you're doing due to faulty net code. Glitches are obnoxious, and the game is very repetive without much of a need to continue doing the things in the game that require a lot of time. If you raid, you quickly lose the need for gaining reputation or doing bounties, and there are a ton of simple additions that would've made the game far more interesting with minimal extra effort. The story is there, but is overall drab. The lore adds some nice touches, but you have to explore that using the website or companion app which was a risk that mostly fell flat. Overall, the game has gotten more boring, but after multiple hundreds of hours by most players, I don't think there is a need to complain, especially when so many of the community have gotten to the level they are at by glitching the final boss, allowing the best weapons and armor to drop.

Overall, the music, gameplay, environment, and endgame is amazing offset by minor complaints and repetition. Even with the complaints, this game will hold your attention for a very long time and will continue to influence new games coming out.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable.

I am quite surprised by all the negative reviews of Destiny as I don't agree with them as they probably only played for a few hours as this is one of the best games I've played in a long time. The missions are very intense when you reach over level 15 and there's great atmosphere and the music makes it even more intense! You need to play with friends in a fire-team to get the best experience as you coordinate with each other to complete strikes, raids and missions so I do not recommend to play it on your own as it's not that fun.

The graphics are stunning and there are some breathtaking views (go to the black garden on venus!). There are always things to do from daily/weekly raids and strikes, PvP, complete bounties to upgrade your equipment.

If I had to be super-critical, I think they should make the AI spawn random rather than at fixed points.

If you're sitting on the fence, buy it, find people to play it with and enjoy the Destiny experience!

Many of these 0,1,2 ratings are ridiculous, obviously the game isn't that bad. I've played World of Warcraft and Call of Duty and I love all game types. I'm really enjoying this game. I can understand the criticism. There are good points made. I played through Halo 1 with a friend, and I've played Halo multiplayer, and enjoyed it, but I never had an xbox myself, so I never dived into the Halo world. I can understand those who loved Halo feeling disappointed by Destiny. Destiny's "world" and story feels limited compared to Halo. ButI'm really enjoying this game. I can understand the criticism. With that being said, why I give this game a 10, is because I'm addicted to it. I love wasting time with the different goals the game sets up for you. I don't mind grinding missions when the objective is a little different, such as bounties, exotic bounties, and strikes. Finding a random treasure chest feels like the lottery, and hitting a legendary in pvp, is a gold mine. I love how seamless the transition is from single player, to multiplayer. It all feels like the same universe. This is different from COD and Battlefield in the sense that the single player and multiplayer, while fun, feel segregated.

I'm just having a lot of fun playing Destiny. It's as simple as that. So refreshing after Battlefield 4 was a huge let down for me. The Vault of Glass was huge and a great experience.

I just love Destiny. I just love it.

Sure, it has its flaws, but keep in mind, this is one of the few (and maybe only) T-rated FPS game out there. I hate when the ESRB complains and rates everything M. I'm an FPS guy through and through, and I've never been a fan of any sci-fi game, especially one that revolved around gear and damage points, etc. I gave Destiny a chance and I'm glad I did. I may just be tempted to buy the DLC for this one because it's that much fun. Expand

The story has very good potential to be great but fails to succeed but I'm hoping either DLC or Destiny 2 will fill in the games.

BUT the story missions are fun as hell to do and the strikes and raids are incredibly fun! The Crucible (the multiplayer) is incredibly fun! There is A LOT of guns in the game. Many of them are the same at first glance but once you start getting guns

There is A LOT of guns in the game. Many of them are the same at first glance but once you start getting guns that are "Uncommon", "Rare" etc all will have different gun sights and different abilities.

At first you'll be a little confused on how to work the menu but once you do it's a blast!

The only main complaint I have is that sometimes the online can get really laggy and everyone but 1 or 2 people will have 1 bar connection. This NEEDS to be fixed.

Destiny isn't what it could have been, lack of content, very very grindy, unfair lootsystem and terrible story but gameplay is very good, who says grinding is bad, very spectacular visuals and fun cooperative raids. Conclusion: good game not a great one

Where it lacks a large amount of story, the games does have great gameplay and the expansion is not disappointing. The game is altogether a very enjoyable journey of a game made by the creators of halo 1,2,and 3. It is worth checking out. Tablettron out ^_^

Wow. Destiny is one hard game to give a score on. If you're basing it simply off the first person shooting mechanics, it is one of the best games you can get. Also the way this game addicts you (having 167+ hours I can say that I definetly was) is a huge factor when reviewing it.

One of the things Destiny impressed me with was the art design. The enemies you face look unique, and the guns you use are nothing short of astounding in design, and the way they work. You can obviously see how the huge budget they had helped with their attention to detail, this is definetly a AAA experience. My favorite mode is the crucible (PvP), it is intense and very fun to play with the unique abilities and variety of weapon choices used in the game. This game had me hooked for 3 months, with it being my main game i played. That may not mean much though, because at the time I only had a few other games anyways. I played 100 hours in the first few weeks, if that tells you enough. I had a great time with the friends I played it with, and that can't be ignored. If you play Destiny with friends, and love PvP multiplayer, you will have fun. Also something that cannot be ignored and is a trend I wish would continue in other games is that I NEVER experienced major lag. My entire playing expierence was smooth and overall it was just fun.
    Now to the bad.
Destiny is repetitive. It is as simple as that. Play the same strikes over and over again and dominate, only to see the other two random people who did it with you with even LESS than half the kills and assists you had both get legendaries. Also the strikes do get boring fast, feeling like a chore when you run through them. Also now, almost 8 months after it released, barely any of my friends play it, and I can only play a few matches without having boredom creep upon me.
My score accounts for, however, the time I had with this game while I was playing it. I had fun, that's what is important to me. Right now, if you can get it for $20-$30, I would say give it a shot if you have friends who will want to play it with you, and you like the other reasons I listed above.

Destiny's online multiplayer lives up to it's unofficial predecessor Halo. I haven't had as much fun online in an FPS since Halo 3. However, it does not live up to Halo 3 in all areas. Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
