Fun for a while. Gunplay is solid and carries a good chunk of the experience, but characters are forgettable, loot feels meaningless, campaign is barely coherent, and only one mission really stands out in set and art design. Some worlds feel fun to play around in, others feel like largely barren wastelands.

Anything under a 7 would be unfair because of the sheer amount of time I have spent with my brothers here but I certainly would not recommend this game per se.

The overall community is pretty toxic, there are tons of microtransactions (making the base game free didn't change **** about this payment model being super shady and unfair), the introduction for new players into the universe is espacially at this point super rough and you really gotta stick to it to have a chance to enjoy it and lastly it's nearly unplayable if you don't have friends to play it with.

5/10. The concept is there, a coop looter shooter in space with different classes with different abilities and skills. Grinding out to get that gun or armour you want as a reward is something that interests me. However, is executed fairly poorly. Significantly more fun with friends, but costs a trillion dollars to play in full.

Maintaining interesting content for their player base is no easy feat, and it is easy to disappoint. Though game developers that learn from feedback and criticism most certainly produce a phenomenal game. Bungie does listen to feedback but the changes are related to in game complaints such as nerfs to weapons/gear, subclasses, and cheating in competitive game modes. The changes that I desire are more exotic questlines, secret dungeons, and community events. They have done these during (Black armory and Season of the Dawn) 2018-2019, and never revisited the following content. During the first 2 years of Destiny 2 raids often released having 6 raids total. Currently Bungie is releasing a frequency of 1 raid per year, and now releasing raids in form of legacy raids that contain minor changes to mechanics. It is very difficult to bring friends or new time players to the game since a lot of their content is paywalled, and vaulted. After spending 7 years playing Destiny, and I grow weary of this game's current path. Right now I do recommend to wait as Bungie is currently planning changes during the Witch Queen Expansion year of 2022. Expand

One of the PS4's seminal looter shooters, permanently ruined by its own software development team, Bungie.

Immersive, sprawling, and smartly-constructed MMORPG-esque sci-fi with functioning up-to 6-man co-op PVE multiplayer or 12-man PVP, API apps, websites, and all-sorts to support offline administration sorely lacking in games such as The Division 2 that are an administrative burden and brutally joyless time-suck.

Alas, any goodwill Bungie created with its Destiny 1 fanbase was comprehensively destroyed in 2020-21 by an apparently indecisive, devil-may-care, 'we have your money now so we don't give a flying f**k' attitude. In detail, Bungie single-handedly ruined the entire PVE side of the game with weapon sunsetting and content vaulting. This generated a situation whereby the most devoted of long-term Destiny players were forced to re-purchase the same content they'd previously paid for, over and over, while other relatively recent paid-for content was mercilessly taken away. At the same time, weapons, armour, and other exotic items that players had spent months or even years grinding and perfecting were summarily confiscated from players, leaving them with a lacklustre, malfunctioning sandbox devoid of new weapons and items that should have filled the vacuum but never arrived.

Despite massive online backlash that caused even Bungie themselves to publicly concede that they wouldn't ever dare sunset again, the damage was never undone! So in true doublespeak fashion, despite Bungie publicly admitting it had made a mistake, all players who lost their hard-earned product of hundreds of hours of gaming STILL never received them back again! To make matters even worse, Bungie then poured gasoline on the fire already incinerating what was left of the relationships it held with its player base by re-introducing old weapons and armour that had been previously confiscated, and forcing players to re-acquire and re-grind god rolls on them all over again!

Unsurprisingly, players left in their thousands and never came back, some of whom had played the game for as far back as the Destiny 1 beta seven long years ago.

Simultaneously, cheaters were permitted to run rife within the PVP side of the game to such an extent that all free-to-play PVP has been rendered generally unplayable. Blatant aimbot, invulnerability, limitless ammo, hyperspeed, x-ray vision, and other god-mode software and hardware-based cheats were permitted to infect most PVP modes, right up to and including the pinnacle of Destiny 2 PVP - the Trials of Osiris. This combined with Bungie's clumsy use of a new guardian ability, 'stasis', as a means to force players to purchase the latest DLC at the time, turned the non-cheating miserable leftovers of PVP into a complete farce. The stasis ability is still so, SO overpowered that it continues to ruin the game for players even today. In short, the choice is to either use stasis builds on all your three characters, all of the time, or lose every PVP match you start.

Destiny 2 is yet another sad case study in how humankind has failed to evolve beyond money, and therefore witnesses the profit motive ruin most aspects of life on an almost minute-by-minute basis. Play it only if you can time-travel back to 2014, and plan to cease playing in 2019.

In all, the Destiny and Destiny 2 gaming experience suggests that Bungie is no longer a game developer you should entrust your time or your money to unless you're content to give up both for nothing in return.

A good game, but needs fixes. The story is good, and so are the graphics and gameplay. The newer areas were all detailed and awesome. The downside are the weapons and armor. They feel either underpowered or overpowered, and are too hard to get. It makes a good game not as good as it could be if it was fixed.

While I have played this game into oblivion, I find that the yearly charge (which cost as much as a new game every time) is getting to be too much. I hope they find a way to continue expanding this game, but at a much lower cost to the consumer. Gameplay wise, it’s always been pretty good, but story wise it’s mostly been lackluster other than forsaken.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. With Bungie taking Destiny 2 and with us all going into a new era of Destiny, i think it is time to do my review now. Okay so lets begin with the story. Now I know that Destiny’s in game story is not really anything special and the real story is online in the grimoire system or now in the collections tab for the lore section but I must say I really liked how the cabal destroyed the tower and took the traveler with our powers. Although i must say that the character development and the way the characters act and talk are beautiful. Cayde-6 is still my favorite character in the Destiny franchise due to his attitude towards everything and how he’s a joker/comedian. The weapon system and armor system at first was okay but now as i’m making this review it has became much better. I REALLY loved how they added random rolls back to which give tons and tons of replay value to certain events. Okay so now with the end game content. At first you had the nightfall and the Leviathan Raid which was okay for awhile but got boring/repetitive. Now we have tons of raids to which i think the number is 5/6, we also have now many different types of Nightfall which is nice and pretty cool if you ask me. We also now have a new activity called Nightmares to which have certain guns/rolls to which is REALLY cool but VERY challenging if your not high enough of power. The final thing that i would add is how the exploration on the worlds have been upgraded AMAZINGLY compared to the last game and the same thing can be said about the public events too. However, I will say that the everversce store is packed with goodies but sadly you need silver to which you can ONLY get from spending real money but they are fixing it as I'm making this review. All in all, this game is basically a slight downgrade in my opinion from the first game but it doesn’t do a bad job as being a sequel to the franchise but I personally prefer the first game. Expand

This is a review of Destiny 2 and does not take into account any DLC. Overall the base game is extremely lacking compared to the original. The gunplay is still amazing and very few FPS games are better than it.

In the sequel, Bungie opted for a "story" with a defined villain "Ghaul". I think this effort was made just to say that they have a "story". I feel like this actually hurt the campaign when trying to cater the gameplay towards the story. The campaign was very boring to play and I would've preferred the storyless campaign of Destiny 1 because its campaign was fun to play. Don't even get me started that you can't use your sparrow until you beat the story. IO is extremely boring and the missions after it.

Crucible is okay, but should not be looked as a very competitive experience and just as a gamemode made as an afterthought. The double primary meta is too slow and the flow of Crucible does not work.

The strikes are fun, but they are in no way memorable or feel like they fit in the story. In Destiny 1, they tied strikes to the story as a "final boss"/activity for the planet. For example Devil's Lair on Earth. I don't see any link to the story and unlike Destiny 1, I don't remember any of the strike bosses names.

The raid feels like a raid, but I don't think it's very good.
-Castellum is not very fun and is unnecessary. In bathers, I don't like that they force you to solo an ultra and you have to rely on others having good enough weapons to kill it themselves.
-Dogs is just completely stupid. It's very buggy and you have to rely on the finicky AI of the dogs to not see your not very smart raidmates. Then you have to rely on their weapons being good to solo a dog and kill your dog fast enough to help their out.
-Gauntlet is kind of too easy, but people for some reason can't wrap their hands around it.
-Calus feels like an actual raid encounter, but the barriers in the alternate dimension can be buggy at times.
Prestige Leviathan feels like a worthy challenge.

I would only buy this if you loved Destiny as a franchise to accept this game's misdoings. And would wait for DLC to fix the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The most frustrating thing about this is not how mediocre the game is, but how good it could be. Playing through the campaign offered some of the game's best moments. The diverse worlds of Titan, Nessus, and Io were fun to explore and featured some amazing scenery and music. Then there's the fighting on the Almighty, which I thought was one of the coolest parts of the game. The gunplay is pretty good, although the enemy AI isn't great, as they rely more on sheer numbers or high HP to get you. Anyway, the fun and excitement quickly dry up later on as you're revisiting the same places, grinding away for random loot. Things get old rather quickly. I also wonder how much total money one has to drop to truly get the full experience of Destiny 2. Seems like it'd be a lot. Expand

This has become more and more apparent to gamers in passing years with competition coming into the genre's market; the Division, Warframe, etc. Of course the most important and clear flaw with this sequel is its regression from the first game, largely due to continued mismanagement and bad decision making on the part of Bungie. Supposedly there was only an 18 month period for the rollout of the now sequel. This would explain the complete lack of content and loss of essential features that were available in year 3 Destiny 1, coming into D2. Also an over use of previous assets, reused content, no variation in enemy types, no new subclasses, and all around no justification for a new release. For any veteran Destiny player, this was not as much a surprise knowing the state that D1 was released in. The release of Destiny 2, however, was an even more egregious sin, being that Bungie had 3 years behind their belt in the form of player feedback for D1, and clear improvements made over the games lifespan. This was not a whim of ignorance, but rather a deliberate manipulation of the player base into believing that Bungie had their best interests in mind. Every action taken in making this sequel was to fatten Bungie's wallets and pull back the amount of work that the developer had to roll out, to the detriment of the player base. Coming into yr2 of D2, the game will potentially be back to its former glory after a year of catching up, Bungie being millions of dollars richer in the process. Shame on them. Expand

Fun raids/strikes and exploring the beautiful open world (albeit very small) aren't enough to make up for the disappointing and uninspired campaign along with the unoriginal and boring PvP experience. Wondering around the The Traveler and just taking in the sights/sounds was an absolutely amazing experience though.

Destiny 2 had an amazing storyline finally a villain we hated but there were a few major problems the first one was the lack of content, Destiny 1 had this problem but destiny 2 made it worse. then there was the pvp, The gun handeling is just perfect but its the lack of gamemodes and enemies in pvp that was bad. teamshot was awfull and it was almost unplayable. The dlc were sort of good they branched out the storyline with characters who where legends in the lore. But it was really lacking i hope forsaken fixes some things it already looks really promising. I wish the best for Destiny and i hope it gets better.

Destiny 2, oh how the sequel lives to a limited imagination. I loved the first and all it's following expansions, that was a good game, no overhaul in micro-transactions or the constant let down of rich content, you jump in to original Destiny, and you'll find yourself having a good time, what a shame the sequel could not quite keep the same standards.

The story was good, the visuals improved and the layout of the HUD was smooth and clean, but narrative and visuals are nothing once squandered by the perilous antics of transactions and one time consumables. The let down for Destiny 2 is nothing really in the game core itself, more of the virtual shop within it, buying gems or what not is nothing new in games, and buying them to purchase paying only exclusives isn't either, but this game had no need for it.

I won't say all the bad points, read other player reviews, but beside the bad points there is some light, the story is good, and I mean good, there is a lot of connection between the characters, that was seen in the original, the new antagonist is amazing and the overall direction of the story is great.

The more open world environments is a neat addition, the ability to explore and play small missions and get new gear is fun, the secrets you unravel the enemies you fight all wrapped up in a beautiful world is well worth exploring.

Combat is much the same, the classes are altered in their abilities, but that's good as it allows for a more unique experience, I've not played strikes or crucible yet (down to the fact of PS Plus, highly against that), but i would think they would be improved from the last game.

On a final note there is downsides to Destiny 2 and there are upsides to it, as there are with many games, but if you're looking for clean crisp gun combat and a story that doesn't stray in to confusion, then consider giving Destiny 2 ago.

Destiny 2 is a tough nut to judge. It's one of them games which you really want to like, and that looked very promising at launch, but then went completely south. I consider the predecessor to be one of the best online games out there. We had so much fun in Destiny from a social view. It's one of them games which you really want to like, and that looked very promising at launch, but then went completely south. I consider the predecessor to be one of the best online games out there. We had so much fun in Destiny from a social view. And surely we got promised by Bungie that a lot of things would be improved - and some things did - but in the end we got a game that treats their fans badly. And it just keeps getting worse. Paywalls, progression mechanics and feedback sets the example of how a game shouldn't be managed.

Now there's that. And then there's the fact that it's still a well written game, that trademark feel of a Bungie shooter and the embedded clan support that favours friends playing with friends. But the truth is that Destiny 2 is less of a grind than the first game, you could absolutely go Platinum trophy within a month if that's your thing, and players are leaving at a fast pace. Surely, there's stuff to do still, like wandering around the beautiful hubs shooting random stuff and using spacemagic. But you'll soon realise that this game doesn't let you play it the way you choose to, but it prompts you to play it the way that Bungie see it fit to play. You'll find yourself looking for the weapon of the time that actually works playing against others with, or the stuff that actually lets you slip by the timer of a Nightfall (which is ridiculous and simply put not fun) or you can find yourself on a loosing streak in PvP due to issues that the developer haven't even adressed yet. And yet it's a solid well developed game in it's core, but in there you'll also find a conflict and flaws and a developer who doesn't seem to give a damn about the player community. If you're a griever or a troll. This is the game for you.

At this time I haven't picked up on the first expansion. But you should if you want to play the game for the first time, because you see - the developers have locked up basic endgame content behind owning that expansion. It's essentially consumer rape. And of course they did it like that, because like I said. They don't give a damn.

As a newcomer to the franchise, my feeling are mixed.

    Pros:
    - beautiful world crafting with lots of details;
    - different planets offer different feeling to their unique environments;
    - well done soundtrack that fits the world;
    - gun play is a masterpiece - perfectly balanced between hardcore-tough and too-easy, gives a feeling of rewarding player for mastering aiming skills; there doesn't appear to be any input lag or mouse acceleration, and response is very much instant;
    - game is very polished and well optimized.

That said, there are serious issues that drastically drag the score down:
    - in general - too much RNG (see below for examples)
    - RNG-based progression system that creates a feeling of completely unnecessary grind;
    - lack of built-in tools for dynamic fireteam creation for Nightfalls, Raids and other activities;
    - flawed Light Level system that relies too much on RNG;
    - from a perspective of a newcomer to the franchise, there is absolutely no effort put into explaining anything regarding universe - the player is pretty much dropped right in the middle of the action.

Getting from LL 290 to 305 relies heavily on weekly-reset activities providing better gear (but these are then gone until Tuesday reset when you can do them again), or RNG-based exotic engrams that are then taken to a guy opening them for you, which gives you exotic gear.
What kind of item you get is based - you guessed it! - on RNG. That translates to frustration, as the player is overwhelmed by the feeling progression is not based on any sort of measurable skill, effort-to-time ratio or otherwise, and is instead forced to rely heavily on luck, grinding and grinding and grinding for as long as it takes to get where you want.
Even shaders - items allowing you to paint armour - are an RNG-based loot and worse yet, they're a combination of four colours (and some additional effects like gloss/shiny surface, carbon material etc.), which doesn't allow you to customize your gear outside of boundaries set by creators.

This all boils down into a game that feels like a wasted potential, and I understand those saying so.
Destiny 2 - while it has a lot to offer even despite its cons - feels fundamentally flawed and designed from the wrong perspective.
It's not a game that has been designed to be fun and to invite a player to spend hours to work towards goals on a basis of transparent and understandable progression system (like - for example - having time consuming, but transparent requirements for crafting specific weapons - where progression rate is a function of time spent, not a function of probability).
It's a game that feels like it has been designed with grinding mechanics at its core, on top of which some content was slapped in for good measure.

All of this results in a game that has the potential of being absolutely great, but is dragged down by Bungie's lack of understanding of what it is that keeps players going.
It is even more surprising when you consider an already-existing template that has it done just right, has an honest and transparent progression system, and is free to play - Warframe.

However, after probably 30-50 hours of grinding to light level 280, it hit me: I'm not having much fun anymore. I almost feel burnt out by the grindy mechanics with this game. After maybe 2 months, I put the game down and moved onto other games. I play probably twice a week now, Tuesday for the reset and then a Raid with my Clan, the Raid is alot of fun, but is prone to glitches and is mechanics heavy, its not as good as Vault of glass or Crota but it better than Kingsfall and Prison of Eldars

I feel the removal of random gun/armor rolls has taken away some of the fun type of grind

Lost sectors is also a massive missed opportunity in my opinion, they are just pointless after lvl 280

Strikes this time are a let down, not really that fun compared to D1 and the rewards are useless after 260 imo, the biggest let down is the nightfall strike, they have added a timer mechanic to it, with ways to gain a little bit of time back every week. Bulletsponge enemies/bosses against a timer, no thank you. All the fun modifiers have been removed and replace with stuff like only get your health back after sprinting. There is one fun one where you get your grenade every 30 seconds. Where are the weekly burn modifiers? Its just no fun anymore

D1 after Rise of Iron was a great game, I expect this too will be a shell of a game until all expansions (removed bits of the game) are out.

The raid is awesome and beautiful and huge , but theirs only one boss, but the puzzles are great , and I like a challenge and I am telling you, the raid is weird , bu ofcourse cool
Now trials of the nine , well its better then ever , the 4v4 works , the map is awesome and the difficulty got nerved , wich is good in my case , because I only went 1 time flawless in destiny 1 ( year 2 ).
the only thing i gotta admid is that the new trials weapons look pretty boring , but (the one i have ) are very good and op
Oh yeah I forgot to mention the microtransactions , bungie made it now even worse with the new 1 time use shaders
But don't worry the glimmer cap has increased so I can buy shaders on every moment I want to , but it still sucks in my opinion.
Destiny 2 is after almost 2 weeks still awesome

The campaign is good but not perfect , the enemy AI is **** and almost the entire campaign is easy as hell, but its still really fun with in my opinion enough variety ( per example , riding in a tank).
The story is great , only a little bit repeat of ' we can do it so, get your ass up '
,infact destiny 2 has more story already in the first mission then destiny 1 combined
The patrol and open world is amazing , they could have not done that better , there is literally everywhere something to do ( public events , adventures, finding chests,......)
However , is it just me or does nessus and io look almost the same?
Now pvp , its very fun but watch out because their are now a lot of teamshots wich is annoying, pvp is also now way more competitive wich means you will have to adapt your playstile a bit
I wich there was at least 1 mode of 6v6 but missing,I do not

Overall destiny 2 deserves the 8 for now , I hope the dlc's bring much content and exotics!!

    EDIT 10 october 2017

Destiny 2 is running out of content if you did your milestones your pretty much done for the week unless you still need raid and trials of the nine gear
Iron banner just dropped but its nothing special
After this week i realised a few things that should be added or be different
    - grenade launchers are useless , only a couple are good in pve and mediocre at best in pvp , I ask for an extra blast radius and impact
    - public events are now repetitive as hell more should be added even a more difficult level of public events
--the strike playlist is very weak ,most of them are fun ( especially the pyramidian strike), but there are way to few
    - we got trials of the nine , nightfall strikes , raids, why are there not extra hardcore stuff?
I dropped the score to a 6 just because the endgame is very weak
Because it is focused on these god damn casual players
Its still fun , but bungie please add good dlc's and not something like the dark below

We were asked to give up everything we worked so hard to earn, had the lore mocked and ripped out of the game, and saw most of the important events and characters tossed in the trash. Then the developers decided to remove most of the game mechanics and content that players enjoyed in Destiny and kept us engaged for three years and replaced them with dumbed-down, repetitious content and over-simplified mechanics that lost all of its appeal in a few days.

That anyone making Destiny 2 would think that giving a power level 304 character 293 gear would be a good idea simply boggles the mind. Once we reach power level 280 or so, we melt just about every item we get. Other than the small handful of weekly events with powerful engrams as rewards, there is almost nothing that drops in this game that is worth getting if you have played for more than a couple of weeks. Add to this, constant dupes, such as getting the same exotic chest eight times, limited and weak perks on all items, no god rolls to grind for, and treating us like idiots with the abysmal talent tree, and one can only wonder why anyone at Bungie thought they would get away with this insulting mess of a game.

Then there is the limited amount of strikes and the fact that we can't even decide which strike we want to play. Getting Inverted Spire six times in a row is simply infuriating. And once you have leveled up, there is NO REASON AT ALL to do Lost Sectors or Adventures for a token, 800 glimmer, and a blue item 10 or 11 power levels below your level.

The loot system in Destiny was just fine. We worked hard for exotics, and there were exciting, long, involved quests for special, powerful weapons. Every drop had the potential to improve our gear and came with interesting perks that we could tweak to our heart's content. But this was all scrapped to give us the current GARBAGE LOOT SYSTEM. I would pay money to hear a developer truthfully explain the reason for this atrocious decision.

Now, virtually nothing is special or unique, and most loot is simply trash. You removed many of the vendors that had loot we could grind for, and you removed bounties. The Reef is gone, along with many of the planets in Destiny that we know are still in our solar system, so why are they not in the game? These were functions and places that would have added valuable content to the game, and given us more to do as you tweaked the game and added new content. Where are the heroic strikes, dailies, Vanguard and Crucible vendors and all the other stuff that kept us coming back for more? Where is Xur's bag full of useful goodies, including valuable resources, energy ammo, and power ammo.

Raids were the shining gem of Destiny. So, what did Bungie do? They gave us the most annoying, boring, frustrating raid in history and topped it off with worthless rewards. The loot in the raid is no better than the loot you get from public events. Why spend hours running like a rat through a maze to get the same crap you can get in four minutes. And who thought the only improvements in the loot from the Prestige Mode Raid being Cosmetic was a good idea? And why no raid specific perks on the raid loot?

What about PVP? I am stunned that a broken emote could result in no Trials for two weeks. How the hell could that even happen? And making all PVP 4 v 4 was a disaster. Almost everyone hates it, and you have effectively eliminated solo players from having any chance to win or have fun in Crucible. Bungie might be interested to know that "4V4 Crucible Sucks" is now a popular Google search term. Plus you removed all the game modes that PVP'rs loved. WHY? Then there is the PVP loot, which is as meaningless as the loot everywhere else in Destiny 2.

What makes this even worse is the fact that most of us, myself included, were rooting for D2 to be the best game ever. No one could have imagined Bungie would remove everything that worked and give us a version of Destiny 2 that was in the same state as Destiny at launch. It is worse actually because this is the second time this has happened, and Bungie should have known better. The thinking behind the decisions for Destiny 2 is so flawed, it defies any explanation.

Sadly, if Bungie doesn't fix this mess before the DLC drops, this game is in serious trouble. As we know, player levels have fallen from 3.5 million the week of launch to 1.5 million today. Losing two million players in six weeks says it all. The game is a mess, and the people responsible should be shown the door.

In a nuthsell, if you like grinding stupid **** like I do, youre okay bying this, if you want some depth and have time to invest in a game, I wouldnt invest potential in a game like this. Its fairly easy to get to 300+ light level and its okay, satisfying. On a more serious note IF you are looking for a game where everything you grind actually makes it worth it, DO NOT BUY THIS.

For casual players who need to wake up in the morning and go to work to deal with life, it's not terrible.

Bungie is not the greatest place to work for, I would imagine. It took them years to get to where Destiny 1, Year 3 was and even then, it wasn't the best it could be. This game has been half-assed from the beginning but still our friends managed to drudge online for a raid or to play the SIVA event after maxing out our characters.

Destiny 2 had a great, short-lived story with cinematics and all that...then it was over. You moved to multiplayer events and it was the same or worse and became a drudge faster than Destiny 1. I can't even imagine where to begin with the PC version other than it's a platform full of aimbot hacks you can purchase and other cheats. That's just the cherry on the cake of another Bungie game that was rushed or half-assed just to comply with a 3 game contract. The employees are liars and Deej is the biggest one. I think we need a raid to kick Deej's ass for making this game sound more than it actually is.

This game is in a a 5 alarm 911 state and I predict the PC version will die faster than the console version...and it will die with inept Bungie employees sitting around a table scratching their asses wondering if this is a game they would actually be excited to play themselves. I don't really think so. Fix it or get out of the software business. You make great guns but that's about it. Warframe is free and it's starting to draw more players because of your disappointment.

When I think about this game, the first thing that comes to mind is how great it could be, and how much it doesn't fulfil its full potential in any shape or form. However, having said that it is by no means a terrible game. Unlike the first game Destiny 2 actually has a cohesive story with an actual villain who has an aim that they are trying to fulfil. And while this is a gigantic improvement from the first game (as it didn't even have this), it still doesn't change the fact that the story is bland and uninspired, and at many times feels like the bare minimum. However, despite this the story isn't bad, it just isn't good. It's clear that it tries to be good, but I feel that the people who made this story didn't really know how to craft a unique and interesting one and/or was hindered by Bungie and Activision. Now having got that out of the way. The gameplay is very enjoyable and feels very tight which really does help this game. Though one thing I will say is that all 3 types of guns (Kinetic, Energy and Power) don't feel very different at all, which is annoying, but isn't the end of the world. Also, the graphics are for the most part good and throughout the 35 hours I've sunk into this game. The framerate rarely dropped and I experienced next to no crashes. Also the soundtrack is completely fantastic and at times I thought it was better than the actual game. Now to Destiny 2's greatest strength and its greatest weakness: the lore. To make a long story short, the lore is fantastic and I really enjoy learning about it, however for the most part it's NOT IN THE GODDAMN GAME. All it needed was some sort of encyclopaedia like the bestiary in Witcher 3, as that could tell people the lore and information about the main characters, as we know absolutely nothing about them apart from their name, the occupation and their race. The last of this games great problems is how it's completely geared to its current hardcore fans and does nothing to try to appease new more casual players (you can't try to call me that as I've done 3 Nightfalls and the raid (which is really overrated) ). So anybody who isn't an established fan of this franchise will most likely be done by the time that they've finished the main story (which is 8-10 hours long) as what they see during that period isn't impressive enough to make them stick around for endgame content. For me personally I stopped having fun at around 250 power, though I officially stopped playing at 285 power. And due to the games microtransactions and the fact that the minute you get the game the developers are already advertising the first of many Dlc's, I can't help but get frustrated. Though at the end of the day it really isn't terrible and it has made a lot of improvements from its predecessor, but it still isn't what it could and should be, so I can't give it any higher than a seven as while it's very fun, it's far from high end and I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. But if your willing to put up with its many flaws, you can find a good game in there. Expand

Haven't played this game in about 2 weeks since maxing out... its unfortunately that Bungie catered to the more casual gamer for initial launch, which is understandable... however i do not and cannot say as a hardcore previous destiny 1 gamer, i have been enticed both from story, game play and mechanics to get the DLC... The most enjoyable part of destiny 1.5 was Public Events. Overall a average standard shooter 7/10 and i'm being nice because it was marketed as a MMORPG which it is not.

Fun shooting and multiplayer but story and characters? It was bad to see a game with this much potential fall into the drain. Don't get me wrong I still have fun playing it but I barely know anything about the characters and most of them are pretty boring. The only flushed out character is the Ghaul who dies in the end anyway. But he had more personality in him than half the characters. When someone mentions a character I actually look them up to find out who are they talking about. It's a game I hate to love but I think seven is still too generous of a score I love this game don't get me wrong but purely on story mode NO ONE SHOULD BUY IT. Expand

The lack of hardcore endgame content is a huge stain on the entire franchise, and the overall changes to loot progression (token slot system), combined with an overall 'balancing' of power level (power level hardly matters for most activities) has resulted in a game that, while exciting and captivating at first, quickly loses most of it's steam once you finish the campaign.

Whereas previously in Destiny 1, reaching end-game felt as though you were opened up to a variety of new, rewarding activities, Destiny 2 offers little to nothing.

If you've never played Destiny 1 before, I may recommend picking up this game. You'll probably enjoy the campaign, playing some patrol, running the strikes, and getting a taste for Crucible. If you're a long-time D1 veteran, it's quite likely you'll find yourself disappointed and lacking in content.

I no longer find myself excited for Tuesdays anymore ('reset day' for Destiny). I log on and stare at the Director (menu) for a couple minutes before sighing and putting on another game.

I hope the DLC fixes the glaring endgame issues the game has, but at the same time, I'm really not happy with the idea of having to pay for DLC in order to experience the "complete game." Bungie took us down this road with D1; it's time for them to get things together.

D2 looks and sounds the same as D1 (which is to say fantastic) and has the same excellent mechanics. If you like FPS then it is a great game.

What is so disappointing is that it has absolutely nothing new in it and has taken a huge step backwards in so many ways, large and small. For example the raid has almost no fighting in it (and what there is is almost entirely contrived (the repeat Castellum sections)) and the mechanics, in the round, are uninteresting. I personally also do not like the cartoonish graphics of the raid; it is hard to believe the same people made Vault of Glass (actually, most of the those people left...).

Small things like not being able to mix and match the super sub-trees, the ridiculous decision to have primaries in two slots, making snipers absolutely useless throughout D2, not having machine guns, every activity giving me tokens like I was at a fairground rather than gear, raid gear having absolutely no raid specific perks, not being able to choose the game type in PVP, Nightfall being timed (seriously, what kind of developer makes it a necessity to race past huge sections of game design?!). And those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

D2 could be fantastic, just like D1 could have been fantastic. The difference for me is that as they have taken all the grind out of D2 and basically give you everything immediately for no effort, I have no incentive to stick with it. Which is a bloody shame as it was the only game I played for 3 years.

I personally like the new PvP as there is space for casual (quick play) and competitive crucible. The end game mode, Trials of the Nine has a different dynamic altogether. It is also harder to go flawless as you are no longer shown mercy. The Third Spire, the new Trials social space is my favourite place to hang out at as it has a great system of progression and looks and feels out of this world, in every sense.

The new social spaces in general are a big improvement and credit to Bungie for making it more fulfilling with its own set of quirks and entertainment.

The strikes aren't so much fun because the repetitiveness kicks in pretty quickly and the incentive for doing them is diminished as you can get your hands on equally good loot by finishing public events that take 2-5 minutes to complete compared to strikes going over 10-15.

The ease of obtaining loot has me considering quitting altogether because there is no fun in playing the game if you are handed high end loot so easily and with little effort. The raid was fun the first time but you will quickly notice how high the bar has been set by classical raids like the Vault of Glass or Kings Fall from D1.

I hope they makes some big improvements with the DLC because the excitement only lasted for two weeks before I saw how hollow this game was and the lack of innovation this game has. There is so much missing potential and as a Destiny 1 Alum, I feel like Bungie has become too lazy and they are not utilizing the amazing potential this game has right now.

the strikes feel awesome when played, too bad there's only 5 strikes in the game right now. 2 on earth, and 1 on the other planets. one strike has you going through a bunch of Cabal excavation drills to take out a big fallen mind so the Cabal can't use it against humanity. sounds more epic than it is. basically everything described sounds more epic than playing it.

the game is definitely an improvement over the first game, though Ikora and Zavala both don't have a lot of character, and are therefore boring as hell. Cayde-6 is everyones favorite, and for good reason. he gets time to develop as a character, unlike the other two who are basically one dimensional characters. Zavala is a brute that fights for justice, Ikora is clever, but in this game she feels regret for not doing anything. Cayde-6 is the comic relief of this game.

games pretty, not much else to say there. i think this has gone for long enough (5000 characters?! who wants to read 2 pages full of "reviewing"? might as well watch a Joseph Anderson video on Fallout 4. **** long as hell), so i'm gonna call it here. i recommend it, but i can see why some people don't like the game, but hey. Destiny 2? More like Destiny 1.5.

Destiny 2 at its peak with the Rise of Iron was a near perfect experience and a shining example of how properly implemented expansions can turn an otherwise mediocre game into one hell of an experience.

Unfortunately, Destiny 2 is using the same formula as its predecessor. Bungie is giving us the same great game-play, somewhat of an improved story, great soundtrack, and fantastic graphics, but then completely ruins it by skipping out on the quality of games modes and huge amount of player choice that made its predecessor great. The variety in weapon perks that kept players coming back even after reaching max light level; just to find the perfect “god” roll is gone. Strikes have been reduced to a random playlist only and can’t be individually selected, not that you’ll do any because their rewards are more easily earned by participating in public events. Strike scoring and strike specific loot have been removed. The raid is a good time, but lacks “challenging” puzzles. Lastly, the raid only awards you with one legendary item. In my eyes that isn’t worth the 3 to 4 hour play through.

Now for PVP. PVP is now 4 versus 4 only. 4v4 is not for everyone. Other games do 4v4 better. Such as Halo and CS go. All matches are limited to two random playlists meaning players can’t select the kind of matches they enjoy. For example, if you want to play Clash only, that is not an OPTION! When Destiny 1 first launched player were unhappy with Crucible. We, the fans, caused such an uproar, Bungie eventually changed Crucible for the better. With Destiny 2, Bungie decided to do exactly what they did in the first year of Destiny 1. Bungie is forcing PVE players to play through 10 PVP matcher per week if they want maximize their power level gains. This needs to be balanced. If I am a PVE player, I should have the option to only play PVE and should reap the same benefits of a PVP/PVE player.

In conclusion, Destiny 2 is a good game until you hit level 20, then it becomes a hollow shell of its former self. It’s sad that Destiny 2 won’t truly shine until the upcoming expansions. It’s sad that Bungie ripped out player’s choice. I am extremely disappointed with the state Destiny 2 is currently in. My advice would be to get the game after all the expansions have released.

I thought it will be much better game than original Destiny. Unfortunately it isn't. It's too simple, contains not too much new content, many the same armor and weapons with different skins and colors. The main plot is absolutely boring and disappointing. They added many new features which, at the first sight, look interesting, but after some time you discover that they just stole the whole fun in the game. I miss grinding from D1. It was annoying in many aspects but it was better than no grinding at all, what we can see in D2. Anyway I'm really upset that it's not possible to get a refund for the season pass. I bought it and I regret that. Expand

Just to be upfront here: I did NOT play Destiny 1. At the time when it came out I was immersed in other games and other MMO's. The abundant amount of negative press the title garnered also didn't help. So when I say I enjoy this title, more than I thought I would I want it to be clear:

-I had no prior experience with the 1st game
-I am looking at the game with fresh eyes

Even so, things Bungie did that has anger the player base has made it to my ears (the one use shaders thing.) Which even outside the realm of the title and my "newness" to the franchise is a crappy thing to do, even moreso when it was an unlimited use item in the prior title.

With that being said, D2 is solid, better than I thought it would be. 1st impression I got the moment I started was: alright....so this is Halo. That's not a bad thing, but Bungie really...you could have strayed a tad bit away from Halo. the hive is the flood, the fallen are the covenant. Hell, the big bad guy is just a Super Brute!

Shooting is super tight. I'm in no way amazing at shooters, but man, is combat solid. Gun choices are really good, but just miss the mark of being amazing. Maybe this is better at endgame (as of this writing i'm maybe a tad shy of the halfway point), but I found some great and some garbage (I hate any type of pistol. I ignore them, even if they are a massive damage increase. The recoil is crap mostly).

Missions feel organic as do public quests...though the latter have little diversification. Once you do one, it's the same thing over and over. Still, they feel frenetic enough to keep the fight fresh.

The story....is interesting. The one thing I heard about the 1st title was how crap the narrative was. Well so far i'm fine with it. It's no pulitzer, but it is far from being dull. I genuinely feel like a hero fighting back against a universal threat though not just gameplay alone; the story supports it, thus making it all the sweeter as you fight the red war.

The music is sweeping and epic which makes both combat and the story reach higher levels than if they might have developed either thing alone (working harder on the story or the combat). Instead the soundtrack passively makes BOTH that much better.

As for classes, I went with the Warlock. Can't say much other than the builds at this point (as of this writing i'm only lvl 12) don't make that big of a deal. The dawnblade feels like just an elongated grenade (about 3 seconds longer than the one you have). It's a CD ability that can hurt lots of targets, but that's about it. What makes combat any different than the Voidwalker or stormcaller other than the CD. The talents in each subclasses tree are more or less the same thing for ALL of the specs, it's just the super that really is any different. Subclasses seem more "passive" than being "active." The other classes seem to be the same thing from what i've read.

I have just one concern and that is the accessibility of endgame content for the solo players. I, like many, don't really want to join guilds and do strikeforce-like content (be online for this event and such-and-such time). I love big event fights though, like a raid or dungeons but not ones that demand hours and hours of time per week to complete. Sure an hour or 2 to do is fine, but 6? Must it be with a group of people that always work together? For me, that isn't fun or frankly what I think of as a good use of my time, not when I can obtain gear and content at my leisure other ways. I don't dislike working with others....I just hate the old and played-out long form grindfest raid system that every MMO employs. I don't want super easy either, not something that equates to a bullet sponge loot pinata; just something in the middle.

Other than that, I have no real complaints. The game looks great, plays great and seems well put together. Had I played the 1st one, I would most likely had more to take issue with. For a new player, it's worth your time to jump in. If you were expecting Halo....you're getting it...just with a different skin.

Update: After "endgame" playing....there is little reason to continue. Strikes are fine and within the aesthetic of rest of the game (war of attrition to victory) as is the crucible. The place where actual gear is (nightfall strikes and raid) make the same mistake every single MMO does: funnel content into a bit-sized area antithetical to the product it is.

Why ALL of the gear/content/progression is shoved into this teeny-tiny portion of the product is beyond me. Couple that with inane timers in Nightfalls and a 6HOUR raid is astonishingly dumb. The game is a world shooter with a few single player instanced challenges, but those are vastly outweighed by random group, undisciplined skirmishes. Why condition people for this, only to stick the best stuff behind tight/focused/strike force battles that unlike EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE GAME?

It's no wonder people rag on this game.

Destiny 2 is better than the first game. That's honestly the biggest positive I can make about it. It isn't a vapid, empty, shell of a game, gutted pre release in order to sell you more content later. IT isn't that. But it is still a colossal disappointment.

Despite being layered on a solid foundation of excellent shooting mechanics, stunning visuals and a truly magnificent soundtrack, Destiny 2 at its worst is lazy, unimaginative, uninspired, insulting and completely pointless. It isn't Destiny 2, its Destiny 1.5. It isn't a sequel, its just a more expensive DLC.

The story is boring, the character upgrade system plays like Bungie have never even played an RPG before and the game is nothing but shooting forever. A sequel should build on the foundations of the first, take some risks, add some interesting new mechanics. A sequel should justify it's own existence, and Destiny 2 just doesn't. It is an overpriced, underdeveloped expansion pack and I will not be spending any more money on the 2 already planned, paid for DLC packs.

Maybe I'll come back when the game is fully released as a complete edition, but until then this is just a waste of time and money.

One month in and over the last weekend I had more of my usual Destiny friends playing the Battlefront 2 beta than Destiny 2. It's not hard to understand why.

One month in and over the last weekend I had more of my usual Destiny friends playing the Battlefront 2 beta than Destiny 2. It's not hard to understand why.

While leveling was enjoyable, the story was about the same level as the story told in Destiny: Rise of Iron. Still fairly disjointed and hurried along, but overall OK. But end game is just a boring slog that's taken several steps back from all of additions and lessons learned by Bungie from the original three years of Destiny.

The raid, in terms of mechanic design and level design, is probably the most boring raid Bungie has put out across both Destiny games. The loot from the raid isn't impressive in the slightest: Almost every weapon has a near identical non-raid equivalent and the armor no longer includes raid-related (or extra) perks, thus making it only worth collecting if you like the look of it. Most of my group who religiously ran VoG, Crota, King's Fall, and WotM regularly during Destiny 1 have no desire to keep running Leviathan. Bungie recently announced the forthcoming "prestige" difficulty raid will not increase power level and the rewards will also just be merely cosmetic. That has done little to enthuse my usual group to bother.

Strikes feel absolutely unrewarding, especially since there's no heroic mode anymore. I spent an evening chain running strikes with a fireteam medallion (xp and loot drop booster) on and got 6 legendary engrams over the course of 4 hours. I could easily get that in half the time just by chain running public events. Sure, I had a ton of a Zavala vendor tokens, but everything he gave was duplicates, all significantly lower than my character level and none with a single +5 power mod. Back in Destiny 1, Bungie added strike-specific loot in order to give people interest in replaying strikes or farming specialty loot. Inexplicably, they chucked this completely out of Destiny 2. Most strikes will just drop boring, standard, blue-rarity gear and tokens, leaving no real reason to spend time chain running strikes any more.

Nightfall strikes are no longer enjoyable. I miss the days of Nightfalls having weird, unique, and challenging modifiers. Instead those have largely been replaced with an uninteresting (and unfun) timer mechanic. Every D1 Nightfall mod was a million times better than Time Warp.

Crucible PVP is just garbage. Dominated by weapons with high-caliber round perks (MIDA Multi-Tool, Uriel's Gift, etc.) and favors whichever team is better at camping and team shooting. The map Vostok, for example, is just a gigantic circlejerk at the middle cave regardless of mode. Stale, scout rifle/auto rifle meta with a handful of rocket and sword power ammo campers. Ooo and for this frustration I get what? MORE TOKENS. For more underpowered gear. Bungie just announced that Iron Banner is losing its only differentiating factor (it will no longer have power level advantages enabled) compared to regular Crucible? What's the point then? Also, the Crucible menu removes ALL choice from the player outside of choosing Quickplay or Competitive play. No choice in game mode and no private matches. If you don't like one particular game mode, well, that's tough, as Bungie's system gets to choose the mode, not you. Plus, it's still a peer-to-peer game with all of the easily exploitable network manipulation tricks that plagued Destiny 1.

Bonus issue lightning round: Static loot made the loot side of the game boring as all hell. Mods are a welcome addition but tying power level to legendary mods that are pure RNG is absolute BS - then again, the way everything aggressively scales, to individual players, power level feels meaningless anyway. Not being able to get mods through other means (legendary shards, dismantling) is a major oversight. Most exotics don't feel interesting enough to call exotic. There's a small handful of exceptions like Sunshot or Wardcliff Coil. Bounties are gone, replaced by less interesting and more repetitive daily, per-planet, "challenges". Classes are dumbed down to the extreme: You get to choose one set of four talents or the other, no mixing or matching allowed. Tokens are the predominant award for EVERYTHING now. Tokens to turn into some other vendor rather than being rewarded for your activity. (Destiny 2: The Token King?)

I bought the game two weeks late and my two characters are already 301 and 300 respectively from casual evening and weekend play. As previously mentioned, most of my clan is already playing other games again. I heard more enthusiasm in party chat about Battlefront 2 than the short term future of Destiny 2. It's pretty clear Bungie/Activision are targeting a more casual audience - one they hope will splash more cash in their microtransactions no doubt.

The game mechanics are still spot on. Running and Gunning is satisfying. There is a lot more vertical jumping in this one which my titan had no problem with, but my friends warlock was struggling with (he may have just sucked at jumping, I never played warlock)

If you didn't pick up Destiny 1, I would say give it a shot. You may get to feel a bit of wonder for 20 or 30 hours exploring the world for the first time. For any one that has played Destiny, then you have played Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is an improvement from Destiny 1, but worse than Destiny: The Taken King and Rise of Iron.
Those two expansions added significant quality of life improvements over the original game, but Destiny 2 contains none of these.

Destiny 2 at the moment isn't a game for fans of Destiny, it's a game for fans of an FPS.

When D2 was released, I chose to play it the way it's suppose to be played and I did enjoy it. The story was decent and flowed very well. Setting and details on the PS4 PRO look amazing and I'll always love a decent PvE FPS.

But here's what I did not enjoy as a 'semi-new' destiny player:

    1. For an FPS, it felt somewhat unnatural. Movement felt slow, sliding didn't flow well, and turning was more of a frustration than anything. Despite that, eventually you get used to it and it won't bother you. It was just something that pissed me off right off the bat.

    2. I get the idea of fireteams and bungie wanting you to come in with teams because a lot of the end game task do require communication. If you are someone who doesn't like playing with others, does a lot of solo, or doesn't care to go on the bungie site and find fireteams.. you're not going to get the full experience of the D2 end game.

    3. Once you get to that ~300 light level (currently at 303) and you've done your weekly milestones. There's really nothing to do but grind (and yes all you intense D2 players.. I know that's the point) but for those who don't care to do that, you may find yourself playing the game less and less. I'll play every tues - wed (SOMETIMES thursday) and get the milestones done and then move onto a new game. If crucible had more of an incentive or something, trust me i'd be on that but there's nothing for you there.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game but there are some things to watch out for if you don't really know what you're getting into.

Even if Bungie backtracks on some of these horrendous missteps, there’s evidence that the dev team is either flailing around without a clear idea of the experience they want to present, or even worse, they’re happy to offer the least amount of mediocre content possible until the player base starts pushing back. When free-to-play titles like Warframe and Let it Die seem monumentally more generous and offer vastly more entertainment value than a triple-A sixty dollar release built with a budget large enough to feed whole continents, it’s clear that something has gone horribly wrong.

It’s this sense of streamlined player experience that really defines Destiny 2. Where the first game had you grinding for hours just to experience increasingly diminishing returns, this is a sequel that trims away its processor’s frustrations, firmly putting fun first.

Destiny 2 is tough to compare to other shooters or games, but it is evidently a better title than part 1. The campaign is longer, the progression makes more sense, the structure is more satisfying and the sheen and splendor on the various planets entices even more. Destiny is comparable with its predecessor after the add-on The Taken King, and is therefore a more solid foundation for the coming months of content.
