    There is a lot of "drama" in the media over reviews for this game, and it's honestly weird. This game is amazing... yes, the gameplay is just making deliveries, in the future, where there has been some catastrophic event and society is on the brink of full collapse, and supernatural stuff is going down and you must make move around a vast terrain, sometimes stealthily, to avoid theThere is a lot of "drama" in the media over reviews for this game, and it's honestly weird. This game is amazing... yes, the gameplay is just making deliveries, in the future, where there has been some catastrophic event and society is on the brink of full collapse, and supernatural stuff is going down and you must make move around a vast terrain, sometimes stealthily, to avoid the supernatural stuff and other general scum lurking around just looking to rob you of your cargo. Turns out to be fun gameplay, and no, this is not a murder simulator, so if you have to be shooting someone to have fun, then this is not your game...

    Honestly, if you are looking for a sweet game to play over the Holidays, alone or with friends, and you really want to kill time, this is 100% the thing you want. Even if you screw up the stealth parts of the game, it turns into a trippier plat-former that will blow you and your friend's minds. Reviewers are just leaning into this being a non-game because, I think, they know most their subscribers or readers won't play the game given it is not a killing game, so they are just creating content to appease any FOMO these people who need murder simulation in their games to have fun. The thing is, EVERYBODY WHO DOES NOT PLAY THIS GAME WILL BE MISSING OUT.

    On top of the gameplay is a 10+ hour movie inserted via the now infamous cut scenes that should be common place in today's video game market, but somehow you risk getting "review bombed" if you do this is a game (wtf?)

    I'm only giving this a 9/10 and not a 10/10 because I don't understand why I can not rotate the topography map to see the terrain and lock in a rotated map so I can plot my courses better. I still assume I am missing something because it feels dumb to just let us kinda make way points by hitting the big touchscreen button, rotating the controller while setting a marker, but I feel so stupid and incompetent trying to make way points like that. Still, just running where it seems I can run works out for me, but the setting of way points doesn't feel "finished", just kinda abandoned or implemented under false premises about what they think players should be allowed to do... i don't know, but no reviewer online has touched on the way point system other than hype up the topography feature which I can't seem to use how one would assume one could be able to.

    I own a X Box One X, PS4 and Switch and Game Pass is where I play my arcade like fun stuff, just have the PS4 for exclusives and THIS IS THE ONLY GAME TO MAKE ME HAPPY I HAVE A PS4 since Spider-Man... I am not buying a PS5; my XBox One X has assumed the crown and not going back.

    Games like Death Stranding make me happy I still have a PS4, this is the game of the year too, imo, shame on any professional video game reviewer who gives this anything below like a 8.5... games have not been that great this year outside of like the new Fire Emblem, even that one was like... why am I a teacher? Still fun, but Death Stranding, visuals, ambience, music, acting, GAMEPLAY!!!, controls... everything is amazing, but the map/waypoint/topography map system.

    If I were Sony, just put out ads with 80% gameplay to the tune of Connected by Radio MC's... surprised those didn't happen prior to the release of the game. Seems they felt YouTuber headwind would be no match for a sick ad campaign?

    Oh yeah, and I upped the rating to a 10 because of all the wack reviews giving a 1... people who reviewed this as a 1 should be shamed a year or two from now... like, if you reviewed God of War 4 a 1, you should have a "Dunce Hat" like icon on your reviewer name tag... Same should go for Death Stranding cause this is legit, any child, adolescent or adult can have a sick immersive experience that has all the depth great art allows; this is a game you think about for days between when you play and after; everything one looks for and craves in art and Death Stranding shows video games are ripe for art, and yes, your gameplay has to be fun and this gameplay is fun... it's Katemari Domacy addictive fun, and Kojima does a great job making this game not too scary. I hate horror movies for the most part, unless the director is truly skilled and understands what truly draws most people into the essence of horror, the unknown. Anyways, just buy this and play this... if you have friends, invite them over for the beginning, play with friends or alone, just have your mind blown. There... another slogan for Sony...    … Expand

    This game is not for everyone. Especially the casual player. This is not a “fast food” game, is a game you will need to invest time and effort to experience and learn the world of Death Stranding.

    One point I deduce to complain that you are not able to play the in game music like the MGV while you are in the action. It is a shame because the music in this game, is something out of this world.    … Expand

Some will not enjoy the slow pace game play but this certainly picks up in the later half of the game, I assume the majority of reviews are from users who have NOT beat the game or even got passed the first 3 episodes out of 14. If you enjoy Euro Truck Simulator or games where you deliver cargo you will enjoy this, if you are a hardcore action fan who wants every moment to be crazy this isn't for you. It's slow paced and rewarding for those who choose to enjoy something instead of dismissing a game after 2 hours of game play. You wouldn't watch a movie for 10 minutes and say it's the worst movie ever made, why would you do the same with a game? Full game will likely take 38-42 hours depending on your play style.

    Death Stranding is a different game.
    It's exploration, it's mystery, it's horror and weirdness. You'll get to shooting but just halfway in game. But the little shooting you do will leave you wanting for more. But this is not a shooter. Asynchronous    It's been a while since I played a game and cannot put the controller down. It's been a while since I play a game and want to 100% it.
    Death Stranding is a different game.
    It's exploration, it's mystery, it's horror and weirdness.

Asynchronous multiplayer is great when you suddenly will have bridge where you most need it because another player made it and both benefit.     The graphics, acting, music and story create an atmosphere that is unsurpassed in gaming.

    The gameplay is different and interesting, but it feels like some aspects are unfinished (vehicle handling is almost comical).

    In the current climate of near identical gameplay repackaged into a new game, Death Stranding gives me hope that fascinating games will be made into the future.

    Fair warning this game is not for everyone but it is definitely for me. One of the best games I have played in years. The story is fantastic always keeps me engaged, the graphics are the best I’ve have ever seen. The only problem for me are the controls they feel a little weird to get used too but I understand why they are that way.     Sam controls a little sluggish but that’s because he is always Carrying something. He’s not going to move very fast when he has 100 kg on his back so it all makes sense that he controls slow and is sluggish. Sure it might take a little thought and skill too actually avoid the BT’s Until later when you can fight them. Which makes it fun to try to see her to avoid them by holding your breath when you get close to them or just avoiding them all together.    … Expand

    Addictive and all encompasing, Death Stranding is a whole different level of addictive and innovative. It's atmosphere grabs you and never lets go. Some may day it's just delivery sim but it is beyond that in every single way. It's deeper and more emersive than any of us realized and I cant wait to finish it.

This game is an attempt to show you the value in taking pleasure in building rather than smashing. I find this game to be breathtaking and fun so far. You can't compare this to other games.     A well crafted game that managed to make traversal enjoyable and engaging. Intense gameplay, and a thought prevoking story. Nothing like anything else I've played. Im totally memorized and see myself sinking dozens upon dozens of hours into this beautiful world.

    I am currently 23hrs into the game in Chapter-3 and things are getting pretty interesting. I love the relaxed gameplay of this game. What others are saying as boring and repetitive is strangely enjoyable for me. The item management, route planning and finally the traversal is very well polished (as expected for all Japanese made games) story telling is a bit of a slow paced compare toI am currently 23hrs into the game in Chapter-3 and things are getting pretty interesting. I love the relaxed gameplay of this game. What others are saying as boring and repetitive is strangely enjoyable for me. The item management, route planning and finally the traversal is very well polished (as expected for all Japanese made games) story telling is a bit of a slow paced compare to other Kojima games of the past but still pretty interesting. Finally, the most unique aspect of the game is the "social strand" as they called it. Structures and equipment used and left by others will have their own impact on how you traverse the landscape and it is well executed in my opinion. Players can even donate their own materials to finish a huge construction project such as a highway, which in turn will benefit everyone once it is finished. Never experience anything like this in my 20 years of gaming (it is quite different from the multiplayer aspect of the Souls games like others are claiming). The game prioritize your friends list for this "strand system" where you are most likely going to see structures from your friends first, but you can also choose to enter into a "strand contract" with other players so all the equipment they left behind will surely appear in your game world as long as the contract is binding. It is for me the most enjoyable part of the game. A unique experience and definitely a welcomed break from all the games these days which always involve guns, loud explosions, killings and gore.… Expand

    Went in with no expectations. Takes a few hours to get use to the bombardment of reading and understanding the dynamics of the menus and the story; even given the many cutscenes at the start, but once you catch your stride,requires a lot of patience and strategy.

If you've ever wanted to be Norman Reedus as a futuristic postman while dodging and stealthing weird floating ghost things (BTs'/ Beached Things) that are connected to the underworld by a strand, while carrying a BB (Bridged Baby) to your chest. A literal babyDeath Stranding would have to be the weirdest but most addictive thing I've played. Even by Hideo Kojimas standards this is weird. If you've ever wanted to be Norman Reedus as a futuristic postman while dodging and stealthing weird floating ghost things (BTs'/ Beached Things) that are connected to the underworld by a strand, while carrying a BB (Bridged Baby) to your chest. A literal baby that cries, laughs , and will give you a thumbs up that at times you have to rock to sleep or settle down.     There are mechanics that you will recognise from the outset and the new mechanics which are introduced are fresh and inventive. These add weight and depth to your play-through and make the usually simple task of walking into something which requires a level of thought and planning.

    Whilst traversing the expansive world (which you will be doing a lot) you will encounter a variety of environments and with them - challenges. Coming across time-fall, BT’s and Mules keep the gameplay fresh and there are a number of ways to tackle these.

    In short, I think the game is inventive, compelling and most of all, beautiful. The world that Kojima Productions have created should be held to high acclaim and used as a bar for other developers. I urge people to give this game a chance through the opening couple of hours to around chapter 3 and allow yourselves to get used to the systems. Loving it!    … Expand

    First things first, Death Stranding is NOT for everybody. After 50 plus hours over the weekend - I have found that It is an experience like no other. If you can step back and understand the concepts and technicalities of what Kojima and his team were trying to achieve then you will grow to appreciate it. Yes the story is beyond bananas and Yes sometimes the is an overwhelming amount ofFirst things first, Death Stranding is NOT for everybody. After 50 plus hours over the weekend - I have found that It is an experience like no other. If you can step back and understand the concepts and technicalities of what Kojima and his team were trying to achieve then you will grow to appreciate it. Yes the story is beyond bananas and Yes sometimes the is an overwhelming amount of quests but if you just take your time and enjoy the world and the subtleties of what is being offered here then you will be able to immerse yourself in a world not unlike the real world where we all are struggling for connection. I for one am amazed again with Kojima and his limitless creativity.     I'm on chapter 3 and so far, this game has been nothing short of a visual masterpiece. The pacing is slow but at the same time perfect. I've never played a game that quite literally puts me in the shoes of the protagonist, making me think about every step I take, plan my routes, arrange cargo, take note of my stamina and take into account enemies, my surroundings and the weather as I planI'm on chapter 3 and so far, this game has been nothing short of a visual masterpiece. I've never played a game that quite literally puts me in the shoes of the protagonist, making me think about every step I take, plan my routes, arrange cargo, take note of my stamina and take into account enemies, my surroundings and the weather as I plan to make the most efficient trip possible.

    Gave it a 9 out of 10 because I wish the enemies were a bit of a challenge. I find them very easy to beat. The vehicle mechanics are also pretty clunky and weird. Besides these hiccups, the gameplay, story and visuals are engrossing and captivating. An extremely immersive experience and just what I look for in video games.     Technically the game delivers what the industry can't deliver (evolution).
    The game has a plot worthy of an oscar, but for me kojima was unhappy in choosing an open world game if it had been linear and more objective, with the dead appearing more often to try to take the protagonist to another dimension (Something simpler as playdead's INSIDE) the game would surely be better.

Also, haven't seen the final twist coming as my theories differed. You got me there Kojima-san. It is truly revolutionary, watershed moment of game design and most certainly it is not for everyone. Who cares. The game does something amazing - makes finding ways to overcome terrain as your enemy no. 1 just as exhilerating as a meditative experience. It makes it FUN to plan your every step and it makes it fun to play it slow. It makes you care about aiding others following your steps just as you've been given a helping hand from many strangers on your way. It does something completely different, and delivers on it just like out great deliverer protagonist does. I'm perplexed by the amount of criticism it is getting, got to the point where I've seen videos on YT where people are almost apologizing that they actually liked the game! Who gives a **** whether whoever else is having as much fun as anybody else. I've had a blast and nobody is taking this away now. Also, asynchronous multiplayer is AMAZING and all I hope this game wil spark the inspiration among the gamedev world and that we shall see more of it everywhere now. I came here to voice my support for Kojima productions and if you are reading this - congratulations and I really hope it sells well enough for you to continue this inspiring, rocky path.     Fantastic game. Not action oriented. It is rewarding in other ways. If you like good stories and you're looking for a different type of game, i'd suggest you take a look. I sincerely do not understand why so many negative reviews I believe it's amazing, and i'm in love with this world.

    Death stranding is Amazing! I dont get it, how can ppl rate it at 0 or 2.. Bots or trolls? Comparison time! Big Rigs doesn't even get that low and that game is not a game. Its a broken mess of polygons. Plumbers Don't Wear Ties rates higher according to those "people" I must call bullsh*t on most the low graders here!

    Wonderful game experience. Kojima create a new type of gameplay which focus more on progress than result. Deliver and walk may looks boring at first but then I recognize how interesting it is. The feeling that connecting whole world is so amazing. I love this story, I love Death Stranding!

    Definitely Goty 2019 for me. Maybe not every gamers wants but definitely what the gaming community nowadays needs. Fresh sotry background (concepts) and interesting gameplay. This game definitely is not suitable for gamer who like heavyily in shooting game. Just play in slow pace and enjoy and appreciate everything in the game and you will be really enjoy for this masterpiece.

    Вообще Кодзиму стоит похвалить за то что он не зассал и выпустил игру с подобным геймплеем в конце 2019.
    Если говорить о самой игре, то в ней на самом деле много всего, но это много всего открывается развивая сюжетную линию. Сам сюжет в принципе не представляет из себя что-то необычное и новое. Заставки и ролики выглядят просто божественно, постановка на уровне голливуда (честно), (я особо не смотрю кинематограф). Так-же в игре существует онлайн составляющая, которая выполнения лучше, чем я себе представлял. Онлайн в death stranding важная составляющая, где ты можешь помогать другим игрокам, так и другие игроки могут тебе помогать.
    В целом ставлю игре 10 баллов, ибо мне очень понравилась игра, в ней хорошего намного больше чем плохого.    … Expand

    First 30 mins of this game and I am already so confused how anyone can give this game a score lower than 9. Thats all Im going to say. If you are a cod fps shooting fanatic then i think you may not like it but you should still give it a try. It is a one of a kind experience in gaming, like alot of sony games.

    ons of mechanics, which are very intuitive to control and working like clock. I was optimistic, but that exceeded all my best expectations. Gameplay loop is so engaging that you literally forget its core is walking. You just need to play it and feel it with your own two hands, because YouTube videos don’t convey even the 10% of its fun.

    The middle section of the game may drag a wee bit, but otherwise, no other game in existence gives you the feelings, emotions, and sense of wonder this did.

    If you think about it, it's the first game in many many years to never incite a feeling of Deja-Vu at all. You've seriously never played anything like this.

    This game is not for everyone but it's definitely for me, people give it a zero because it's "too slow pasted for my liking" this game was never advertised as a fast pasted game, people come just for Kojima but that's on them, they should look into the game before buying it, not blindingly buying it just because it's Kojima.

    First I'll list the bad: some parts can feel like a slog. There is some repetition between missions, as they all involve going somewhere, picking something up, and bringing it somewhere else. But that's the basic archetype of almost every video game. Besides that, there are times when it feels too easy or too hard, or a lot of info is dumped on you at once. The story is confusing, especially at the beginning, but all is revealed sooner or later. More impulsive players won't have the patience to sit through the cutscenes and dialogue, of which there is a lot.

    There's much more good than bad. The world feels massive and realistic, the original score suits each scene or level incredibly well, and the controls are impeccably ergonomic. The graphics are nothing revolutionary, but are still very good, and caused no lag on my standard PS4. The story is creative to say the least, as are the gameplay mechanics, some of which don't exist outside of this game.

    Overall, I think Death Stranding deserves an 85-90% score. Very few titles display this level of passion, creativity, and a mastery over UI.    … Expand

    Death stranding takes you to an empty, sad and depressing land. A land affected by a phenomena called death stranding that have messed up normal life cycle of humans on earth. I will say only this much to prevent any spoilers that might cause you to lose interest in story.
    But this world, also doesnt feel empty and lonely, it rewards you by showing other players helping each other not to only build America once again but also build a world for each other. The shared experience of Death Stranding slowly builds up and it rewards you for respecting and encouraging other players in this "difficult journey". This system sure is an evolved version of methods we have seen utilised in Souls series but here is designed in such a sense to give you happiness. now how much effective it is, it depends on your expectations from the game.
    You see, Death Stranding is a serious game, usually for us serious is defined as hard but fun in gaming world. Death stranding somehow tries to be serious by being a very realistic experience. Connecting America, if you imagine it in a world that humanity has lost many things, cant be a simple task of point n clicking. Its a hard task and a mission given to someone rather important and capable of doing it. but it also doesnt mean every second of this journey is filled with AAA over the board action sequences. This is a serious business of delivering parts to connect a nation to one another for a better tomorrow.
    Now that I have established my point, im going to say YES the game mainly involves delivering items around the shrunken version of North America from East to west, you have to traverse this environment mostly on foot and sometimes by cars and motors but that is basically what an ideal reality is for such situation. Still, the DS engines helps to resolve land traversal and takes its realism onto a new level. You can feel walking the entire america inch by inch, sure it can be repetitive , but seeing people have gone through same, put up outposts and left you supplies to use makes things interesting and your life easier, knowing that you are not alone in this journey. Sure it can be tedious at times or the whole structure is similar to fetch quests, but it is designed in depths. Inventory management, choosing your way, dealing with weather conditions, obstacles on the way are not things we see in a typical game that involves traditional fetch quests.
    You see, this game takes itself very serious just to tell you this is a new genre, a new definition of walking simulator games but in a such majestic fashion that I can say it does pushes it to next level and it is indeed very good at proving it.
    There are downsides in the game, story can open up itself in a very classic way of slowly explaining things to player but as matter of fact, everyone in the world of DS including Sam has no idea about the world they are living in, all they know is that they can gather more information through connecting america once again and that is when your reward comes through. Rewards do not need to always bee cool armors, cool weapons, cash or loot, they can simply be as realistic as nothing.
    "Nothing" in sense that Sam is putting his life in danger to do something that has nothing in it for him. Just like our own lives, we cant always expect rewards for stuff we do, however we can expect good things to happen, and it that department DS is good! it has bunch of really cool story segments that will keep you engaged through the end of it. DS gameplay is also designed in a very open ended fashion that is both balanced and details which shows Kojima ability in designing something new without much error. You could argue with me, but the game doesnt force you to grind for materials to build stuff, it rather gives you enough and asks you to make a wise decision about it. It asks you to make decisions about your every step since the whole world is reachable and its for you. It doenst ask you to build your adventures like Breath of the wild, it asks you to work for a nation, it asks you to work for your fellow players to build a world for you and for them.
    Death stranding sure has its up and downs and it comes down as to simple as poles, ropes and ladders and hands. But these are the things that brought us together and drove us away too. And death stranding tells that, it tells you how hard it is for us to be humans. something we take for granted. Thanks you sony for supporting developers new and unique ideas!    … Expand

Most games have low level enemies to deal with, this game has the terrain as the common enemy, and you feel a sense of pride as you overcome it and change the landscape. In each area you are tasked with getting to your destination in your own way with no help, but upon doing so you link up to the "Chiral Network", allowing you access to usually a dozen or so of other players structures / items / signs in that area. This is always such a sense of relief, and you go on to add to these yourself or upgrade them, sharing the love. On the downside, in my opinion the story is a nonsensical mess, and the delivery of key plot points is mishandled. On top of this, some bosses or set pieces seem extremely out of place and don't have the same care and interesting mechanics as the rest of the game, and could simply not be there to be honest. But you can really just ignore that and focus on what you're doing for 99% of the game, which is facing the world find a refreshing kind of game, free from many video game conventions. If you don't like inventory management and tactical planning games, then give it a miss though, this isn't a game that necessarily has mass-appeal, but it is satisfying for people who like to tinker, optimize, gather, build and explore.… Expand

    This game seems to be very divisive. But it is a refreshing breath of fresh air and totally uncompromising in its visual creativity and unusual world building. I’ve wanted for a long time a AAA game not based around violence, because most have involved similar scenarios and revolved around conflict.

    I'm gonna keep it short and sweet. Most of the game is fairly slow and chill but it can be tense at times. There's a lot of cutscene and weird moments. The online helping aspect is cool and interesting.

    There's a lot of walking around in this game and a lot of people don't like that. I personally do and enjoy it a lot. Going out and delivering packages has it's moments. Unlocking new items and gadgets is fun and always interesting. The whole tone of the game is a breath of fresh air and i love it.

    In the end, this game isn't gonna be for everyone but that's okay. I recommend this game if this is the sort of thing that you are into.    … Expand

    Jelous xbots are giving 0/10 over insecurity and salt it’s not a Xbox exclusive... just think, Does a game with breathtaking graphics, amazing cast, incredible story, the best use of licensed soundtrack in a Game to date, crazy world building and interactive synconised multiplayer deserve a... ZERO?!!! ofcourse not exactly !!

    This game isn't for some people. For people who want to try something that breaks the mould, it makes a refreshing change. It can be grindy. It can feel tedious at times. The patience pays off however, with the final 15 hours or so being some of the greatest I've ever experienced. Just the creativity and design that has gone into this game alone is breathtaking. Guys, PLEASE ignore the 0 star reviews, they are simply trying to review bomb the game - get it for yourself and give it at least 5 hours.     It's refreshingly different, and very well done in several aspects. Surely, it's more of a relaxing kind of gameplay and there are incredible moments here and there. It offers a level of story telling and acting that is unparalleled in the gaming world. The game play is fun, it's just limited and it should have been a shorter game!     I love kojima, I love the overly complex stories just for the sake of being complicated. So that led me to easily find myself enjoying the story of death stranding. Yet the gameplay does leave a little to be desired, as it becomes very repetitive and at times tedious. If your looking for that complex kojima lore I would 100% suggest this game.     Apparently most of the players forgot that the game is not just running and shooting like crazy. The game can be art, an interactive kin, telling its story. Especially from such a creator as Kojima. Unjustified attacks.

    Me parece un buen juego
    muy artistico y excelentemente ambientado
    la musica de lowroar, radiohead y otras bandas
    muy nostalgica e indie, el sistema de juego de primero me parecio muy frustrante ya que debes mantener el equilibrio dependiendo el peso del cargamento, los jefes son geniales, resumiendo el juego se siente muy bien y me agradan los escenarios.

    As so often said, the path is the goal, as it is with this game. But it doesn't feel like you're a boring postman. Just when you're walking alone through a mountain or one of the countless landscapes that never, but really never, seemingly boring, it grips you. the feeling of loneliness and being the first to be at this place and then making use of it feels really great. You can also ease your way back and build a wire rope or a road. all that feels like rebuilding and building something and that's exactly what the game wants to convey to you. however, i have to admit that the game wouldn't be so appealing graphically and the story wouldn't be so interesting and gripping, it would also be too boring for me. but which game isn't. the whole package convinces but very much. In the beginning I was very careful when I entered an area of outlaws called mules, or when I met GD's that are invisible. Or when I had to kill a big boss, but in time they are very easy to defeat. Sometimes I even have to say too easy. but this is not a fight game, but still always exciting !
    the game is for the gamers who want to achieve something in peace and deliberately and want to experience a great story that is extraordinary. this is not a game you can play 10 minutes like COD. You always stay at least 1-2 hours until you have achieved what you wanted.
    The control is perfect I wouldn't want to change anything !
    Finally, I didn't really want to write that much :D, who doesn't care about the design and the story to begin with shouldn't buy it ! everyone else says I buy it you won't regret it !    … Expand

    Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
