    this game is probably my game of the year for me and I can’t stop playing it. The online aspects and decision making on what deliveries I will make based on other players and progressing the story feels good. The environment and traversal feel great and satisfying. The sound design is stellar. It’s just a comfy ass game. Anyone else ? Also I have to say, working with other players I have bridge connections with to make the roads in the knot city area is one of my favorite gaming moments top 20 or something. The place went to covered in rocks to slowly but surely pooling materials together to make the roads. Feels good logging on to tons of “likes” from off the beaten path generators I put up or the highways I’ve helped contribute to. It’s amazing. I also love despite how simple the game is in scope , the menus and stuff are full Kojima like mgs v on steroids: it’s still a video game ass video game in many ways despite going for the cinematic kudos.     I went into that game thinking it was going to be a boring walking simulator. However, the gameplay design and story are all top notch. Very surprised and very pleased!

    Since his departure was announced, people had no idea what it was because nothing was shown about the game only cinematics that for the most part made no sense. given its current output everything and every one of what was seen in the cinematics appears in the game giving meaning to this.     After playing the game, it fulfills what was promised, creating a new genre of video game: it is not an action, it is not a shooter, it cannot be explained since they would all be.
    A great story, great soundtrack, and great playability.

    Nor can we expect casual players like those who spend in fornite or fifa to understand the game and like it.

    More interactive world experience than a game. I can see why opinions are so split but I loved my time in the world. It can be slow at times but even then the camera will pull back and an amazing soundtrack will begin playing so you can just relax between the more tense sections. Maybe not an overall 10 but definitely not the 0s people are trying to give.

Don't go in expecting anything like MGS, and prepare to have game mechanics unlike most other games you've played. If you like the Matrix Reloaded for its exposition and ideas, if you like science fiction literature, if you like meta-narratives and playing with conventions, if you want to play a game that makes you do things differently to other games, not more of the same,then you may just love this.     Seriously, this game is easily one of the best games I have ever played. Its narrative is exactly what can he expected of a hideo game and if you likes the message and story of metal gear you will enjoy the narrative of Desth Stranding.

    This game is a totally unique experience, it starts with a bang but then slows down for the first few hours but as you get further into it the better it gets. The likes system is brilliant and quite addictive, it’s also great how the community comes together.

    DS is such a great game. I see the trolls are hard at work though spamming the ratings with 0’s. You guys say the game is boring but will play fortnite and FPSs that are all almost identical to one another and think each one is “so great.” Y’all are the ones who are boring

    This is the first time i have ever felt the need to review anything. To start off, Death Stranding is a masterpiece in story telling and gameplay! People who leave it negative reviews have either not played it or only played it for a short time. I finished the story in 45 hours doing an average amount of side missions and exploring, and to me the pacing was perfect.    SPOILER FREE REVIEW

    This is the first time i have ever felt the need to review anything. To start off, Death Stranding is a masterpiece in story telling and gameplay! People who leave it negative reviews have either not played it or only played it for a short time. I finished the story in 45 hours doing an average amount of side missions and exploring, and to me the pacing was perfect.

    The first 3 episodes will take you 15-20 hours depending on your gaming style. This part is mostly gameplay, delivering packages and understanding the game itself, i really enjoyed this part, when you’re delivering a package in the middle of no where a piece of music will randomly come in to play, and you will pan around looking at the beautiful scenery, this is when i truly got what Kojima was trying to accomplish, the first 20 hours arent for everyone, i personally hate fetch quest games, but this is something else, i fell in love with it instantly and just got it and what it was trying to give the player. The feeling of being alone, but then using other players equipment or structures really makes you grateful for what they have left behind for you to use, because of this you also do the same and get a real satisfaction when the likes pop up to tell you someone has used your ladders etc, you feel like you have helped someone along their journey, this is done brilliantly throughout the game!

    Episode 4 hits you with the first real kojima style cutscenes and story telling, feeding you more and more story and more action, the pacing really ramps up here and you start using weapons etc.

    Through episode 4-7 the gameplay gradually builds with the story, deliveries get harder, enemies get tougher, and the story comes thick and fast. Episode 7-9 again steps up the gameplay and the story now starts giving you the ‘wow’ moments kojima is known for. After episode 9 the game goes full throttle and throws non stop story at you, with amazing boss fights and even more ‘holy **** moments. It was from this point i couldn’t stop playing as the game unveils more and more of the story slowly answering your questions, the gameplay and story at this point are some of the best i’ve ever played, i was completely invested in the story, but at the same time i really didn’t want it to end! 9-15 is complete madness, loads of twists and turns along the way, and the best finale to a story i have ever seen! It left me sat staring at the credits like ‘wtf has just happened’, i was emotionally exhausted from the incredible writing of kojima!

    This has been the best 45 hours of my gaming life, and i am so glad i invested the time into the game because the reward was seeing some of kojimas best work in story telling.

    The game is a thought provoking, incredible piece of art, and if you were hyped before seeing the bad reviews and changed your mind, go and buy it! You will be so glad you did when you reach the end and feel all the emotions i did, all the wow’s, holy **** tear jerking moments are what make this game truly exceptional!     It´s not for everybody, I liked it very much, is a very unique game that deserves at least a chance for me it hit all the right points in the story and the challenge of moving on the map were more than enough to deserve a recommended from me

The quality is unreal, the story keeps pulling at you as if you're getting tangled in a web, the vast world is just a massive breath taking adventure, and the mechanic's of the game are quite different to what you would see in most games to date.     What an experience, beautiful landscapes, fasinating story, incredible ending, fantastic performance's, especially from Mads Mikkelsen character, his ending is sad and heavy. But this game suffers from horrible terrain, frustrating combat, and weird map design.

    But of course what is story if there is no gameplay to to experince it?
    Death Stranding's main gameplay is travesing a long barren landscape which is encapusulated by rivers , folliage , enemy camps , preppers and of course player structures. In death stranding the mechanic the keeps me coming back is the ever-changing player world , filled with bridges , ziplines and PCC's which all change the flow of the gameplay.

    That said the Game suffers from a few fatal problems.

    1) The combat is clunky and can really frustrate at times

    2) The game , especially if you play it now is kinda of easy due to all the player structures

    3) The Bosses are all defeated using the same strat

    As you can tell the fatal problem of Death stranding is it's combat which is clunky that said it is fun after all the gadgets you get but early on it can be annoying.

    Don't Rush Death Stranding and don't abandon it after a few hours of playing it is a slow burn you will truly experence this game after you complete it.

    The gameplay is brilliant, so refreshing and rewarding. You really have to think about your ideal route and where you place your feet. BT encounters are really scary. It's all really FUN imo. Weight management is very important. There is a lot of gadgets to use which add a lot of depth and freedom to the game. I really enjoy receiving notifications when players use the stuff I left behind.The gameplay is brilliant, so refreshing and rewarding. It might not be for everyone but if you want to embark in a fantastic adventure this game is for you. What has impressed me most about this game is the semi-multiplayer world-building. You don’t see other gamers but you see their structures built. One day you have to walk all the way and go through mountains and rivers between two places, the next day you see other players have built the highway two-third of the distance between those places. Then, you decide to finish the rest of the highway, and then you see other people’s reactions by receiving their likes for your structures. This gives you a kind of satisfaction. This game seems boring when watched. However, when you actually play it, you begin to feel it attracts you to its world. The negative thing that bugs me most is the monologues of NPCs. They are repetitive so after some point, you say shut up.… Expand

    Gameplay sometimes interesting, game adds new mechanics when it's about to get boring.
    But when game tries to be a shooter - gameplay becomes frustrating on high difficulty.
    On-line functionality really fits this game.

    This game is definitely not for everyone, but it was for me. As a diehard Kojima fan that felt underwhelmed by the lack of story that MGS V contained I feel like Kojima just brought out an all you can eat buffet to make up for it with Death Stranding. It is beautiful and confusing at times, but overall it made me cry like a baby. I love Mario and Princess Beach.

    Around 80% of the gameplay involves player to deliver cargo from point A to point B. The rest are regular boss fights, sneaking and hiding from haunting    Death Stranding is a not an easy game to review, as it is not a regular game that I have played before in my whole entire gaming life. In short it is a “grand turismo” of walking simulator with a very decently rich story telling game.
    Around 80% of the gameplay involves player to deliver cargo from point A to point B. The rest are regular boss fights, sneaking and hiding from haunting ghost like creature, and some light third person shooting.
    Death Stranding offers a unique online gameplay that not generally seen by us in this gaming era. Most of the games out there encourage players to compete between each other for the top spot but Death Stranding encourages players to work together and helping each other through the tough and harsh world of death stranding.
    Perhaps one of the strongest selling point for me is the rich and out of this world story. It makes me cried, laughed, and even frustrated. Watching the mysteries unfold bit by bit toward the end of the game is a tread.
    It is tough to recommend Death Stranding to everyone. I would only strongly recommend to person who plays a game highly due to the rich story telling. For me, I personally think that Death Stranding is a wonderful experience that definitely made it to my top 5 game lists.

Seeing a username you've seen a couple times before feels great, and I love the trekking to unlock we areas. My only issues are UCA distribution centres all looking the same, overuse of slowmo when performing certain actions (the 4th or 5th time it starts to grate.) and that it's such a shame the MULEs don't offer more of a challenge when infiltrating their camps.
    Really enjoyed my time with this game, it's definitely not for everyone but I think for a lot of people it will scratch a certain itch (though it most definitely won't be an MGS itch).    … Expand

At first you maybe think it's gonna take forever to get the "deliverys " and "strands" ... But when you enable online play and take a few missions...the games change.... You be able to use the community items and construction... like roads . Bridges, towers of energy, shelters for the rain, advanced Outpost, bikes,, and more and more... after chapter 3 ...a little boost by Fragile ...you be able to " jump " immediately to the bases you already got connect to the quiral network.. chapter 4 its insane action....and then things in history start to bom in chapter after champ......I have more few hours to finish the game... but I want this adventure never finish....such a polish game with awesome features and a blasting history...A top 3 contender for the game year for me.… Expand

    Played it now for a few days and it gets better and better the more you get in the story liking it very much.
    the most cool things i like is the part that you can build bridges roads and leave stuff around for others to help them,
    and they also help you. Also what i didn't expect was the kind of Dark Souls way of getting help when you fight a BT. Not sure how i can help others maybe i    Played it now for a few days and it gets better and better the more you get in the story liking it very much.

    and they also help you.
    Also what i didn't expect was the kind of Dark Souls way of getting help when you fight a BT.

    I think a lot of reviews are from players who tried to "eat" the hole game in 9 hours and made review, without even trying to understand the storyline, and not getting the true potential behind the gameplay. Who said that this game it's monotonous are probably just too lazy to play the game... Every trip is an other experience with new possibilities to get through the new obstacles at road, and game is not easy (if you don't agree, have you even got to hell mountain?). If you want to understand the story even better you just have to read some e-mails, and if you can't understand anything till your 9 hours of gameplay don't be worried, even people don't understand the reason behind the death stranding. If you prefer shooting, the game wasn't for sure for you from the very beggining, what could you expect from kojima? Metal gear solid weren't shooters, and in fact they also had a lot of cutscenes (especially first mgs games) and not that lot of shooting, they were also steady gameplays same as Death stranidng. So if you prefer shooters, the game wasn't for you from very beggining, and seriously, don't try to play hole game in 10 hours and write a review, with time the gameplay intensifies as hell, sneaking and running aaround mule-s with weapons, shooting down bt's, it gets really intresting in time, and story? when it starts you will know one thing, you're already addicted.
    And to all people who expected rough action gameplay, man don't the game is bs just because the game is not your style of gameplay, just write a review with saying that the game is not amazing for you and if you don't like it that means this game is **** You have to see that, there are people who love this kind of gameplay, and this game is perfect for them. And one more thing, don't expect too much, instead try to not expect nothing at all this way you will for sure not be dissapointed

Today, I played around 6 hours and barely noticed that all that time I just delivered materials, cases and boxes to other communities which needed them; I also enjoyed the bridge mechanics, creating bonds with other players and the Community supporting each other with accurate signs and likes, as well as donating good weapons and undelivered materials.

    Amazing fun. Best game I’ve played this year. Gives you an indescribable feeling of satisfaction when someone completes a structure you started building when you are off on a mission somewhere else. The same goes for when you build a bridge and come back later to find over 4000 likes

    The most fascinating experience of 5 last years. Atmosphere in this game gives me vibes of PS1 generation, I really felt like I was kid again. Mechanics are fresh and meditative. Characters and story are unforgettable.

    Amazing game!!! I am just half way, but I love the story and the beauty of the open world. I always travel solo, so maybe thats why I enjoyed the journey as Sam so much.

Our society has become so enthralled by war games and those who create them when something new and hoenstly innovative like DS comes out it often leaves the player feeling underwhelmed or unimpressed at a first glance. Yes, the game is very long and somewhat all over the place. However, it takes what many games tend to not do and place the players in a sort of space where they are truly on their own. Kojima stated himself he wanted the player to feel a type of aloneness while playing and climbing rocks and mountains all by your lonesome I say capture that type of affinity. He got what he was going for. The game is not bad, it is something that's new and that I say people aren't used to yet. "walking simulator" isn't exactly what I'd call it, but rather a game that gives the player a chance to instead of run and gun and have to attack everything or be some sort of super soldier, instead you're a simple carrier on a mission to connect the remaining strands of a post apocalyptic America. It's different, but most games that tend to go this route are and will literally either hit or miss with a target audience. If you went in expecting Metal Gear 2.0 then of course you'd feel cheated and kicked to the curb. It's not Metal Gear. This is something that with the combined efforts of a masterful team and a man using his own dream journal as inspiration, and created something both unique and somewhat a topic changer for how people play most games nowadays. It's a good game, and I think it deserves some credit for being able to bring new ideas like a carrier system and exploration of field versus simply only and always finding an enemy to attack. If people would focus that instead of the former, maybe they'd see it in the light Kojima meant for it to be presented. Again, it's not a war game. It is it's own genre all together. Love it, or hate it, it brought something new to the table and I appreciate what work they have done.… Expand

Forget who made it and forget all the people who talked this thing up for years. To enjoy this game you have to suspend your disbelief, rid yourself of preconceived notions, and let the game reveal itself to you. If what I just described is not your thing, then don’t buy this game. Also, you can stop reading this review now. In fact, don’t even watch videos on this game. It will likely drive you crazy trying to figure out why some people (or anyone for that matter) could possibly enjoy this game. If what I described is something you’re willing to try, then read on.
    Bottom Line Up Front: This is a walking simulation, with some action, lots of storytelling cinematics, and a boatload of foraging. More on the foraging stuff later. You are a delivery guy. And oh my goodness do you deliver things. From corpses and live humans, to thermonuclear explosives; you get things where they need to go. You will trudge through rivers, streams, grasslands, muddy swamps, deserts of volcanic sand, miles and miles of boulder strewn landscapes, and you’ll even get to climb some mountains.
    Specifics: You’ll need to manage a lot of inventory. Lots of items have durability ratings and so must constantly be replaced or repaired. (If you like to explore like me, you’ll go through quite a few pairs of boots in the early gameplay). The more cargo you carry, the more tedious and troublesome the delivery process will get. Each delivery opens up more of the map and progresses the story more. This allows for side-quests and other explorations.
    Foraging: As I said earlier, deliveries open up more of the map to you. This also allows you to see and experience things that other players are building, have built, and would like to build. This is where most of my enjoyment has come from so far. I’m about 18-20hrs in and I’ve spent about a third of that time foraging for materials to build bridges, roads, safe houses, generators, shelters, etc… It’s amazing to start building a bridge only to find out another player has contributed most of the needed supplies or just finished it for you. It’s wholly satisfying to be running for dear life from mules or BT’s (with 3% battery juice left in your exoskeleton) when you find a perfectly placed recharge station around a corner. Or a strategically placed truck at the bottom of an exhausting mountain descent. On one occasion I had over 50 items in my truck before I crashed off the highway and totaled the vehicle. I could only carry 20 items by hand. If you get too far away from your cargo, the game will move your “lost cargo” to another player’s game world and they can deliver it for you, return it to you, keep it for themselves (if its material or items) or leave it lost. In my case, I found a post box close by that was built by another player. It allowed me to store my 20 items and go back for the other 30.
    Sidequests: Some people have explained that the side quests are boring and just more of the same. What they fail to realize is that the side quests allow for access to upgraded weapons, vehicles, and transport equipment.
    In Closing: This is a very slow game, with almost no action. It requires lots of forethought, planning, and trial and error. Some may find the rewards for your hard work lacking. Others (like me) find the rewards captivating. Yes, the story is very disjointed and in the early hours it doesn’t give you a good sense of past present and future. But it’s intriguing nonetheless. And well executed to boot. If you’re on the fence, watch a couple of walkthroughs (at least the first 2-3hrs if you have time). There are tons on the internet and you’ll get a better idea of what you’d be getting into.    … Expand

    The visuals are stunning, the characters obviously look realistic, the landscapes I believe to be based on real ones and the gameplay, while the game is really a walking simulator, it's the best one I've experienced and actually works really well within the games context, I mean, we're playing as a delivery guy, so who else could make a masterpiece of game out of that??
    Another important key feature I want to mention is the sense of community while you're playing the game, even though you don't see the other Sam's around, you never feel alone, someone is sharing a ladder to make your life easier, a rope, motorcycle or putting up signs giving precious hints about the terrain ahead of you, it's marvelous in itself, really nicely done.
    I'll never forget the experience I had with death stranding. I'd like to thank to kojima and his team for creating such a GAME! I'm looking forward to see what's next.    … Expand

    I screwed up on an early mission and it took me way longer then it should have. I love a slow burn intro and this has one. So if it's not for you it's not for you. But I'm hooked. I can't stop thinking about this game and it brings me so much enjoyment. The mechanics, the world, the plot. And I get it it, it's not for everyone. But it's definitely for me!

    A truly unique game with epic exploration and an intriguing scifi story like you've never seen. The game is part epic movie part delivery/exploration. Also, there is plenty of opportunities for action sequences but the main point of the game is figuring out how to navigate the insane environment of Death Stranding.

    Eu adoro Walksimulator e to me divertindo bastante com esse jogo, a historia, as musicas e o fato de vc ter que sempre pensar como facilitar o caminho onde vc passa e com ajuda de outros jogadores são os pontos altos do jogo, eu gostei bastante!

    This game is really something else, it really is a work of art. The story, soundtrack, and connecting game play is really breathtaking. The game does have a bit of a slow start but after it picks up it doesn't let you go till after the credits roll. I have never experienced something this special. These are small complaints in the scheme of things and never really bothered me too much. The last 6 hours of this game is where it jumped from a good game to something really special. The ending was really original and caught me of guard and has stuck with me since. I will always remember this game for it's enormous impact on me and on hopefully the world and gaming itself.… Expand

    Great game, better than RDR2 for me. Audio/video 10/10. Story and cinematic are great. Pure Kojima experience :D

    Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
