    Although I'm only a bit over halfway I absolutely love this game. It actually amazes me how interesting and fun it is. On the surface it may seem boring and lazy but in reality the gameplay and mechanics are so intricate, and the world itself feels so alive. The story so far is gripping and there is a lot of lore to be found in emails and collectibles. Honestly would give it a 9 butAlthough I'm only a bit over halfway I absolutely love this game.     Dont listen to the negative reviews! This is game that you have to play to understand. This is not your typical AAA game. This is a journey in which you are slowly diving. Try it and make your own mind!

    This is a game that does not appeal to everyone and I get that. However, to those of us that do appreciate the masterful writing and intelligent structure it is a 10. This is an interstellar sort of game. It takes thinking, and paying close attention to details. I think reviews should only make up a small percentage of a purchasing decision. This is a slow paced game with an enrich story that incrementally gives you reason to keep going but makes it worth it each time. The actors do a tremendous job, especially Norman Reedus. Now if you don’t like him in walking dead then you probably won’t find much in terms of new personality here. But He is the perfect misfit rebel to play this part. The only thing better would be if Jeffrey Dean Morgan would play the villain. The game has a very bizarre story but it interesting all the same. Each climb each fall, each scatter of your belongings can be felt as it seems to be a mountainous climb through the game. But again with a special treat each time you complete a portion. I read so many times BORING if you find creeping through vast open world wondering when your BB is going to pop up and alert you to stop breathing from a nearby BT or struggling to inch up a treacherous and tall terrain fearing you may have stacked too much on your back to make this climb to get to the next part of the well thought out story boring, then to each his/her own. But I was on the edge of my seat trying to make it a short distance to connect another city. PS were more than Amazon delivery personnel. I have to say people are maybe not giving this enough time to develop or not understanding the story line to give some of the reviews I have been reading. I do think many true Kojima fans and metal gear fans will thoroughly enjoy this game. I wish I would see more people speak up and defend his hard work. I love the game and knew going in it would be no Red Dead 2 but its nearly equally interesting only the gameplay is more limited but not much. There is still plenty to do. People are willing to guide a snake around a screen and make the snake bigger as well as other top mobile games like flappy bird come on. This is true gaming entertainment. Give it a go, keep an open mind sit back and enjoy the ride.… Expand

    Awesome game! If you are looking for a hatch and slash game then this isn’t for you. But if you looking for a game with a great/weird storyline and great voice acting then this is for you. Graphics are amazing especially on a PS4 Pro.

    This game is really good, though certainly not for everyone. If you are looking for a good variety in gameplay, this aint it, but if you are looking for a really good adventure game, this is it.

    If you're mature to a point where you can go out and feel the beauty of a walk alone, feeling the wind, then this game is made for you. However, if you consider gaming as an instant-reward entertainment, repeating "it's just a game" as much as you can, then Death Standing is not made for you cause you don't deserve it.

    I have never been a hardcore Kojima fan but i have to say that his works are actually pleasing and often very polished, making you feel something rare.
    And this is the case here, the game uses its tortured concept to question yourself constantly, like : "it is weird in our world, but is it in this one ?".
    The game is made for contemplation.
    The gameplay serves the experience, as usual for Kojima, it is fluid and logical to the universe you're in, while not being restrictive and remaining precise and the most important... FUN.
    You are alone with a destination, you chose where you go and when. What do you take with you ? Do you travel safe, or risk it all ?
    The acting is overly dramatic and it works in a Kojima scenario, take it or leave it.
    Biggest flaw in my opinion is the main vilain, way too typical, still have some interesting intents through the game.
    The music serves contemplation, usually absent leaving you with yourself and the world around, and strikes when it's a fitting moment.
    And the most impressive, the game reinvents itself every hour, adding more mechanics with every encounter, and making you reconsider the ways you can progress.
    The game is good, really good, but it is not for kids, and the fact that it is boring comes only from you and you alone. The game is not perfect, but it is very close to be, and comparing to the rest, you can keep the commercial work, i keep the work coming from the heart.    … Expand

    1/3 part of Death Stranding is boring. Its about 10-15 hours after first three hours of game. But next part is EPIC. I understand why people give low score, its because they dont patient.

    Death Stranding is an unique game that mix the gameplay elements with the narrative in a way only Kojima does.
    Is a game of walk, but when you play you realize that make delivers is a big challenge and is quite fun sometimes. Story is beautiful and Full of plot twist that reminds me of mgs2. I'm Glad this game exists in a vast ocean of generic games that put sale in front of quality.

This is a peaceful game about overcoming hardship and rebuilding a world in a post-apocalyptic environment.

    The map is huge and the terrain is very inhospitable and hard to traverse, that's why you're walking... You can use bikes and trucks that can help you get places, but they have their limits in terrain traversing capabilities, just like real bikes and trucks... So your best bet on getting somewhere - is using your own two feet.

    I have awesome time playing this game.

    ok i had my thoughts about this game at start, i can see ppl dont like it but you dont have to kill always for a game to be fun. its a modern masterpiece the best game ive played since GoW . im gaming for over 20years and i can say this score is way downrated . actors senario music gameplay is a bit weird but fun a perfection kojima only could pull out and very risky move.

    Slow pace at the beginning, but if you have the patience to get to the later stage, you'll find that the boring and tedious in the early stage are deliberately made, which is designed for the story. It is not the best Kojima game, but is the most special, and most ambitious one.

    One of the best games of my life. It has a tiring gameplay, but that makes sense within the game. The ending is quite time consuming and seems like it will never end, but in the end a sense of nostalgia sets in and a willingness to play again and be around such amazing characters.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Death Stranding is not without some flaws. It is not a game for everyone, the pacing is not perfect, the combat (what there is of it) feels a bit janky, and some boss battles are a bit underwhelming

    However...

    In an age where one game after another are nonsensical copy paste action games with barebones story, terrible low budget cutscenes, microtransactions and completely void of artistic vision, Death Stranding stands out as something fresh and remarkable, while still tugging some nostalgic strings when it nods back to the first Metal Gear Solid games.

    It's a game that has grown on me even after finishing it. It demands that you reflect on its story and themes.

    The gameplay is fresh, and surprisingly fun and addictive, and its visuals are unmatched.

    I was worried Kojima was past his prime after the dissappointing MGSV, but DS shows that he has more stories to tell, and what a story it is...

    DS is a game that should not be missed, as it stands as one of few games in modern times that tries to push the medium forwards. And it succeeds.    … Expand

    Death stranding es un juego que no es para todos, es lento al inicio, frustrante, pero conforme avanzas, la historia se vuelve más intrigante, las misiones son más gratificantes, es innovador en sus mecánicas, adictivo, y sin duda alguna un juego único, que a pesar de estar rodeado de polémica y reseñas variadas, tiene momentos muy épicos y memorables.

    Fascinating story as expected from HK. All the usual charm fans have come to expect from his games. Very addictive game play loop that can be a bit tedious at times, but very rewarding.
    A pleasure to play, not fun.....but very enjoyable.
    Looking forward to a sequel just hope we dont have to wait another 4 years

    Very inspired game. The gameplay loop per se is satisfying and has a continuous progression throughout all chapters.
    Storytelling, dialogues and visual impact are amazing.
    Only downside are boss fights, way to basic with regard to the gameplay.
    I’ll give an 8 to the gameplay, but the overall results deserve something more!

    Try it without prejudices!

    I find it a good game! I actually like the gameplay loop and find it addictive. The relaxing gameplay, followed by puzzlelike traversal and tense moments of avoidig BT's makes this very enjoyable. The story is very good in my opinion, but sometimes the writing gets cheesy. I liked the characters, although Troy Bakers character is the least interesting. The story has a mystery to it thatI find it a good game! I actually like the gameplay loop and find it addictive.     It is very hard to recommend this game though, because it really caters towards a specific audience.
    If you do not mind slow gameplay, puzzle like traversal, give it a try.

Quizás para las personas como yo, aficionados al senderismo y sus bellos paisajes, vean este juego con otros ojos. Ya que el espectáculo gráfico es de lo mejorcito de esta generación. La história muy liada desde principio a fin, deja atados los cabos sueltos ya terminando el juego. Puede que demasiado tarde para aquellos que busquen desenlaces próximos para no aburrirse en mitad de juego. Veo necesario leer todos los correos y entrevistas para entender mejor lo que Kojima nos quiere contar, y para profundizar más en los personajes. Personajes que, todos tienen un transfondo interesante y que dejan momentos que te tocan la "patata". En lo referente a la música, hay temas que los escucho fuera del juego. Low Roar hace un trabajo excelente en algunas de sus composiciones. Otros temas están ahí sin destacar demasiado. Ya para terminar, después de toda la chapa que acabo de escribir, solo puedo decir que Death Stranding es para aquellos que busquen algo diferente, algo a lo que no estamos acostumbrados y que bajo mi opinión, es todo un acierto. Il medium videoludico in questo frangente viene spinto oltre il mero scopo di divertimento inteso come riprodurre tematiche action o situazioni che richiedano prontezza di riflessi. Si tratta di qualcosa di diverso che richiede un metro di giudizio adeguato: si tratta di un videogioco basato sulla narrativa di un’esperienzaeath Stranding è un’opera autoriale nel vero senso della parola. Il medium videoludico in questo frangente viene spinto oltre il mero scopo di divertimento inteso come riprodurre tematiche action o situazioni che richiedano prontezza di riflessi. Si tratta di qualcosa di diverso che richiede un metro di giudizio adeguato: si tratta di un videogioco basato sulla narrativa di un’esperienza unica, il cui scopo è di rendere il giocatore partecipe di un immenso ed estenuante viaggio di riconnessione, che per Sam è tutt’altro che divertente. Ci scontriamo quindi con due lati: 1) Dover rimanere divertente perchè si tratta di un videogioco; 2) Allontanare dal divertimento per rendere realistico l’immedesimarsi in Sam, in ció che prova durante il suo viaggio. Death stranding è una continu antitesi, dal concept del gioco a ció che suscita nel giocatore, come dimostrato dai 10 e dagli 0-1 dati al gioco. È questo il bello di questo videogioco, ognuno puó percepirlo in modo completamente diverso rispetto ad un altro, così come l’esperienza di gioco. Non a tutti piacerebbe il doversi cimentare in ore di camminate per riconnettere un mondo di gioco se il gioco stesso non suscita la spinta emotivo/narrativa per svolgere tale compito e immergersi in quel mondo. Chi non si immedesima in Sam e non si sente parte del mondo di death stranding odia il gioco, chi vi si immedesima ci si immerge completamente. Nessuno di questi due casi rappresenta il lato “giusto”, ognuno ha libertà di lasciarsi o meno andare a qualcosa, amare o meno qualcosa. Per questo è complicato dare un voto a un gioco così “relativo”, sarebbe dare un voto alla possibilità di emozionarsi per qualcosa, alla voglia di immergersi in qualcosa, qualcosa di diverso. Possiamo solo elogiare un immenso comparto tecnico, in modo inappellabile. Possiamo elogiare la maestosa capacità narrativa. Non possiamo invece valutare il divertire in senso stretto. Non è un gioco perfetto, per tutti. Date una possibilità a death stranding se siete disposti ad immergervi in un mondo “strano”, surreale, reso nel migliore dei modi, ma se siete disposti a prendere sulle spalle il peso dell’odissea di Sam e tutto ció che ne deriva.… Expand

    Death Stranding should not be considered a videogame and more so as a movie. The gameplay is in the weaker side, however it doesn't take away from the fact that the game features amazing graphics, mysterious story, and great soundtrack only someone like Hideo Kojima could do. As of now, no other game captures the atmosphere Death Stranding provides.

    The only reason why this game gets negative scores is most likely huge and successful marketing, which have attracted a lot of people.     For all the other people- you must play this. If you are in to things like Blade Runner movies or deep indy, european movies... This game will be better than that :) And I mean it. Oh, man(and ladies) it was that good.

    To be fair, there was moments in the game where it required some patience. And I see why people would call it Fedex simulator, but that was just a part of mind blowingly amassing journey.

    This game is an absolute 10/10. In the end, this game is just what it pretends to be. Graphics are breathtaking. The gameplay is unique, and, against what the most may think, it resulted extremely entertaining for me. I just felt like I was playing something that I hadn't played ever before. The story is stunning, and at certain point on it you just can't stop playing.

I've personally had a blast - driving down a road constructed by a bunch of strangers    I've never touched a Kojima game before this and I was skeptical going into the game myself. I decide to give it a fair shot and I've come out absolutely adoring it; the story is intruiging and the world building is phenomenal.

    The gameplay won't be for everyone, but I don't think it ever aimed to be. I've personally had a blast - driving down a road constructed by a bunch of strangers working together with a jenga tower of cargo on my back is the most gratifying experience I've had in a video game in quite a while.    … Expand

    It's a great game and Graphics are amazing.it's a slow game though, but give it time and play it with an open mind, plan your deliveries and how you will going to do it and enjoy it. but remember you'll have to (PLAY IT ONLINE) in order to get the full experience of building and helping each other in the game world.

    Best game I played for 2019 so far. Perfectly playable during launch no bugs and glitches that was spotted during my play trough. Story was one of the most emotional and rememberable experience this year.     El juego tiene una historia muy solida, los momentos mas memorables los marcas tu al jugar.
    Las mecanicas de Sedentarismo le han quedado como anillo al dedo, el tema de tener que revisar tu peso y el equilibrio esta muy bien hecho, eso si no es un juego para todo publico, es como el cine extranjero, algo diferente y extraño.

    It's impressive how the mechanics, game and level designs are in such harmony in this game. It's a mixing of creative gameplay and fantastic/mysterious story. A must play, a masterpiece.

    Not a fan of any of the MGS game, or linear action/adventure ones for that matter - but this is an amazing immersive and beautiful experience. 10/10.

    Ciertamente, no llevo mas del capitulo 4, pero si llevo unas 51 horas jugando, normalmente eso es lo queque me toma para terminar muchos otros juegos, sin haber terminado aun el juego puedo decir que en lo personal es un juego que para mi cumple con su funcion entretener.

    The game provides a cool Wired story Which i loved from the mind of Hideo Kojima, decent characters with a compelling back story, beautiful graphics and outstanding soundtracks but the games suffer from a slow start and a repetitive missions.

It by no means a "masterpiece" or a "10 out of 10!" game, however death stranding is a mailman simulator with action, stealth, and horror elements. If you are looking for a crazy action game this isn't it. But if you likeI don't really think it's a bad game... I think too many people are hating on this game for no reason. It's uniqueness as far as the gameplay loop may turn folks away, and if you do not like long cutscenes your patience will wear thin quick.     Even tho this game isn't perfect and the gameplay is more about taste (it's absolutely not classical for the industry) it's not deserve all negative 0/10 scores. I do understand about the hype, but I'll overcompensate all the negative from community with 10/10 even if my personal feelings more mixed and about 8/10.

    Give it a try, then judge.

    First of all,    Death Stranding is one of the most brilliant games I've ever played. It's also probably the most divisive game I've ever seen. Either you really love it or you really hate it. Either way, this is not the game you were expecting, as there's nothing else like it. This is a game about the journey, so if you're looking for a cheap dopamine hit, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

    First of all, this is no action game. For the most-part it's a laid-back walking simulator with open-world decisions making (route planning, mostly), community single-player (ala Journey), and long cut-scenes. I don't agree with people saying it takes a lot of patience, but its not a game you can easily brute-force your way through.

    There is combat that makes up about 10% of the game, and it is quite simple. You've got grenades, guns, and fists, not very unlike Metal Gear. It'll have you hiding behind things, advancing down corridors, unloading on enemies. Death Stranding also has stealth, whereby you'll be crawling through areas past ghosts who are rooted or patrol a small area, trying not to alert corridors of enemies, or sneaking through tall grass in the open world.

    The world design feels fantastic. It looks nothing like the continental US, but it feels so much like a real place. The graphics are some of the best ever employed. The world is a main character here, and makes up the majority of the challenge you'll be facing, which is perfect for a game about traveling across the US mostly on foot. The world is populated by lovely mountains and crags, rolling fields... The whole time I kept thinking 'Final Fantasy 15, eat your heart out', which is the closest thing I can compare it to, but that game so pales in comparison as an epic roadtrip.

    The story, for once in a Hideo Kojima game, wraps itself up and feels complete. Through most of the game it feels like a lot of symbolism and campiness, but damn does it come through in the end of tying all the loose ends together. And not at all in an obvious way. Still, there's a lot of symbolism that crosses with other Hideo Kojima games. It feels like this is the story he wanted to tell all along with the Metal Gear series. As such, the game is way more abstract than a classical adventure; more like a psychological thriller than anything in the action genre.

    The player is wrapped up and swaddled with story at every turn. This is probably the most generous game with full 3D cutscenes that's ever been made. All the characters are brilliant, and even though I spent dozens of hours with them, it left me wanting more and more of those interactions.

    The community features are brilliant. You can build bridges and ziplines for other players to use. Build them various way stations. Put warning signs for other players, ala Dark Souls (but simpler; no 'try using both hands' placemarkers). Let them use simpler tools like your ropes and ladders. You can then like the works of other players. You can also recover the lost cargo of other players or interact with their deadbodies which binds you together. Or you can request they make deliveries to you. The whole thing leaves you feeling very connected to other players in a way that I haven't seen in a game in years. Whether they placed a sign in the perfect place to help you out of an open-world chase, or they had that latter in just the right spot to avoid a ghost, it's just a flood of appreciation for other people.

    For the controls, I think people really over exaggerate that they're "bad". This is about as engaging as you can get for a game about walking. The weight of everything feels so satisfying, especially after you get exoskeletons that let you jog around with a ton of weight on your back. But it's not nearly as hard as people have said. Just holding both triggers is usually enough to keep your character stable. And the vehicles are not too difficult to control. You're not meant to drive literally everywhere, this is a game about crossing mountains. You can't cross a mountain in a van, can you? Just get out of the car/bike. I had more frustration reading the complaints of other people than I did over 51 hours playing the game.

    All in all, Death Stranding is a brilliant experience. It's by no means for everyone. If your idea of a good time is best paired with a Mountain Dew, you'll probably not like it. But if you like something that's often slow or thoughtful, and so analytical that it'd make your English teacher weep tears of joy... Play it. You'll not be disappointed. Or if you're the kind of person who likes something to do while listening to a podcast, you'll probably also enjoy the gameplay (haven't tried it). Regardless, give it a try. You'll either love it or you'll hate it, and that's not even a gamble if you wind up loving it.    … Expand

    I had reservations about this game but I'm about halfway in and the story, pacing, graphics and tone have made for an experience I wont forget anytime soon. It might not be for everyone, but it is truly unique

    It is slow, with bad physics, bad stealth, and an empty world... But I really love it. There is something in Japanese games, that makes your souls feel warm and continue and continue playing these games. Even if it's not perfect you can feel how it's trying to do something new and how it can give you some new experience.

Finally the plot turned out to be50 hours total. 40/50 you can suffer from identical missions waiting for another piece of plot or you can enjoy the gameplay, neglecting the story, its your choice. As for me, this 40 hours, I created lots of theories according to the genius of Kojima, after each passed mission. There were so many of them, that I started to forget the first versions.     Kojima no decepciona, en esta nueva obra maestra, un juego que sin duda trasciende más allá de lo convencional, tanto por su narrativa como por su jugabilidad, y que decir de su historia que es el punto más destacado del juego. Sin duda esta obra de kojima marcará un antes y después en la era de los videojuegos.

    Great game, it's definitely not for everyone but history hooks you as soon as the opening credits kick in accompanied by powerful kinematics! The controls/commands may feel complex at first, but as you progress and meet certain hours of play you get familiar with each of the elements in this modern post apocalyptic game. Make sure to give it a try since it feels very different from other games!

    Is not only a game, is a entire message to the future generation of people, and games. Connection with others is the key to save the future.

    This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
