Dead by Daylight pays tribute to horror movies from the 80s. The asymmetric gameplay is just as fun no matter if we're playing the killer or trying to escape him.

While Dead by Daylight is far from perfect, the game delivers a thrilling experience as both survivor and murderer. Levels are small, so there is always something happening. Playing with friends is mandatory, as it greatly enhances the overall experience.

Dead by Daylight: Special Edition is the same game we've played on PC a year ago, albeit with a lot of new content. Its gameplay remains fresh and fun, however the lack in variety might jeopardize the lasting appeal of the game, which is also threatened by a weak matchmaking.

Dead by Daylight falls short in some respects but, for a massive horror fan, it’s easy to overlook the game’s flaws when the core experience itself is so fun and engaging.

Just because Dead by Daylight: Special Edition game is light on mechanics does not mean it is light on fun.

Dead by Daylight is a fun game but this porting lacks of content. Concept as usual is great but some technical issues and a lot of balancing problems make the game boring after a while. Give it a try only if you love horror atmospheres and you are a fan of slasher movies.

A great idea that offers really fun and tense moments. Unfortunately, it's not as well optimized as the PC original, and it lacks some more content.

A rapid-fire take on the asynchronous multiplayer template pioneered by the likes of Left 4 Dead and Evolve, Dead by Daylight’s scrappy aesthetic, unfair survivor loot system and repetition unfortunately detract a bit from the otherwise blissful fun of its video nasty style horror thrills.

Turning to the quality of porting work, the impression is that the transition from PC to PS4 has left the title in anything but excellent form.

The premise is amazing, and your first hour or two with the game is stellar, but the long term enjoyment you’ll get out of it depends on what level of tedium you’re willing to tolerate.

Despite a lack of content, and some bugs, Dead by Daylight is an original adventure multiplayer game that it is worth. Is funny and captures perfectly the style of classic movies of horror.

The asymmetrical multiplayer genre seems to be a real tough nut to crack with each heavy hitter coming out swinging, only to be plagued by nuances that trip up the experience and expose debilitating cracks in the mechanics. Unfortunately, it seems that Dead by Daylight suffers much the same fate. It’s honestly really good fun, but the more you play the more its issues rear their head and become points of ire.

It’s not a taxing game by any means, but the asynchronous flow and bold unusual will rub against common multiplayer mindset.

Like Friday the 13th (and to some extent the similarly asymmetrical Evolve) there is a great concept here, but the balance and finesse are lacking – especially when you’re not playing with friends. Hopefully there will be patches and updates, bringing the console version more in line with its PC originator, which has been improved greatly since launch. Dead by Daylight needs and deserves a more nuanced, crafted and considered structure. It needs to be more Wes Craven and less Rob Zombie.

This console version of the famous PC game has some issues that make this installment a boring game without too much content for a single player.

Sadly, unless it manages to pick itself up pretty sharpish, Dead by Daylight may well be dead on arrival. [Sept 2017, p.91]

Dead by Daylight has enough positive in it that this isn’t a terrible game. The problem is that it’s just not a particularly good one. The look of the game seems to be one that could fit just as easily on the previous generation, and the replayability factor is rather low given the limited maps and ways to win.

Is Dead by Daylight perfect? By all means, no. Is it fun? F*** YES!

This game isn't going to be for everyone. Odds are you will be a helpless survivor. Yes, you will be helpless. The killer cannot die. Once again, the killer cannot die. When you first start playing, you will die more than you will survivor. Survivors are suppose to be helpless against a Killer. As a survivor you don't play to win games, you play to survive them. As the Killer you have one objective. That objective is to kill. That's the game. if you don't like the concept, than Dead by Daylight is not for you. Once you become good enough and an high enough level with good perks, as a survivor you eventually will learn how to out smart the killer. Then your odds of surviving will continue to increase. I like to compare this game to a slasher flick. One killer vs Four survivors. Can you out smart the killer and escape?

Now the game is not perfect. There are some bugs. Ex: Messy movement when the killer attempts to pick up a survivor. (nothing game breaking). All Killers are not the same. Some are stronger than others. (Balancing). Games have no timers. Meaning, games can last forever. I have lasted in a match for 42 minutes. Games typically last 12-15 minutes :). Lastly, if you choose to play as the killer, you will be hosting the game. To fill up your game it can take upwards of 10-15 minutes. The reason for this is because everyone wants to be the killer. Plus side, if you decide to be the survivor you will never have an issue finding a game.

The game is truly a good time. For $25 I recommend picking it up.

TL;DR - Dead by Daylight is an unbalanced mess of a game that heavily favors one side over another for the sake of "atmosphere" (AKA playerTL;DR - Dead by Daylight is an unbalanced mess of a game that heavily favors one side over another for the sake of "atmosphere" (AKA player hindrance)

When I began playing this game, I expected something in the vein of Evolve - a 4v1 multiplayer that puts greater emphasis on the 1 while giving the 4 a healthy amount of options to deal with the threat. In this aspect, Dead by Daylight fails in EVERY regard. The 4-person team of "Survivors" are left with little to no way of dealing with the "Killer" player, outside of awkwardly running at a pace that can only be described as "brisk walking". Some may argue this is thematically appropriate, given that this game likes to pretend it's a slasher flick from the 80's. While this may be true, that is no defense for a game that actively hinders the player at every turn for the sake of atmosphere. Wanna heal yourself? Without a special (randomized) perk, too bad, you have to wait for a buddy. Want to strategically bait the monster and try to duck around him? Sucks to be you, monsters have a hit box that would put Call of Duty to shame, and you could get hit even if you're BEHIND the damn thing. Got stuck on the hook and want to try your luck at escaping? How adorable, you get a 4% (ACTUAL NUMBER) chance of succeeding, with 2-3 failures resulting in an instant loss for you. As an added bonus, if you DO manage to escape and then get hooked again, you have roughly 3 seconds before you're booted from the game. Should you play as a Survivor, you will have to deal with the fact that the game is actively trying to MAKE you lose. Playing as a Killer feels clunky and poorly designed, as you must deal with an awkward first-person view that's slightly obscured with a constant mist on your screen. Most killers are very large people that tower over survivors, thus making chasing them feel unnatural as a result, as they will duck into holes and corridors that you simply can't fit through. And yet, picking off Survivors is EXTREMELY easy, as they cannot do a single thing to you, outside of shining lights at you or putting obstacles in your way, which are minor inconveniences at best. Finally, and perhaps the most egregious nail in the proverbial coffin for this wannabe slasher hybrid, a multiplayer game that completely disbands the lobby after EVERY SINGLE MATCH is nothing short of disgraceful.

I've played several matches with my friends and several more by myself, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this is one of the worst multiplayer experiences I've ever slogged through.

This is 4 survivors vs 1 killer.
To survive you must activate 5 generators which will power the controls to an escape door. The killer must hunt down and sacrifice as many of the survivors as they can and prevent their escape.
This is an Independent Game. It's not from an established studio. But it's still excellent.
    - You choose if you play as a Survivor or Killer.
    - Matchmaking is very good right now. If you pick Survivor or Killer you will get a game quickly.
    - If the Killer quits because he's doing poorly, the Survivors all get an XP reward.
    - If you get killed as a Survivor you can quit the match, get your XP and nobody is penalised. The match carries on for everyone else and you are free to start a new one.
    - The game rewards cooperation and this encourages survivors to help each other so most of the time they do.
    - You're going to suck as a level 1 Survivor and probably struggle as a level 1 Killer. Manage your expectations. Learn to play. It doesn't take too long to get the hang of it and once you realise this then the game is more fun and you can be encouraged by progression.
    - There are many Audio Cues to things that are happening in game. A decent Gaming Headset will really compliment this game.
Graphically the game is fine. Some games look better and that's because they've got the same budget as a Hollywood Blockbuster. The graphics do the job fine for this game.
Audio for this game is exceptional. Audio cues make a Gaming Headset a huge advantage.
Gameplay seems very simple at first but as you continue you realise it's much more complex. The first few times you get a "Skill Check" while you're completing an action like fixing a Generator or Healing a colleague you'll fail and think it's ridiculous. But eventaully you'll recognise the Audio Cue for the Skill Check and because you're prepared you'll usually hit it easily.
Expect to get murdered early on and have fun with abandon. As you become more experienced with the game you'll find success with both Survivors and Killers alike.
Great game. There are very few other games out there like it.
