the game has a unique world and story full of lore that makes you wanna explore and learn about it 100 percent, the gameplay is fun and the powers have a great feel to them , there are only a few times that there are many enemies and explosions that are overloading the system and lowering fps but it only keeps for a few seconds so it's not that bad , just for that it gets 9 and not 10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've never played such a different and mind bending game in my life. It's such a unique and original game, just the change I needed from playing other games on ps4. The story line is quite gripping, player engagement and advancement great and an environment like nothing I've played before. My only complaint is that the experience was over to quick. It's pretty quick to end game! Definitely worth playing guys!! Expand

No reason to make such a high end game for all the lowest machinery. This is a game to entertain also the gamer of the future, not the past. Way to go Remedy!

Brilliant atmosphere and setting. I love the whole government supernatural bureau thing, they do it really well here.

While the whole concept might have been amazing, the design is very poor. I found the graphics bothering at best, either way too dark or too bright, very rough (has nothing to do with my HDR settings), LOTS of frame rate drops. Enemy design is generic at best, almost like fighting silhouettes in high contrast background.

Action/Game-play looks promising but after a while it's very disappointing. Very linear, feels like playing the first Max Payne while throwing stuff. Come on Remedy, it's not year 2000 anymore. Besides running around and some random shooting/throwing stuff, you don't do much else. After an hour or so, it gets pretty boring.

    Wouldn't recommend.

Terrible dialogues and monologues, where they stutter or talk to themselves, repetitive monsters. The only well made thing in this game are the graphics. Checkpoint system is utterly terrible, having to fight ten plods to reach a boss again is a time waster. Accidentally falling off a ledge means a checkpoint reset. Lots of little freezes with menus, skipped frames, map that doesn't appear sometimes. Glitchy in general. The map itself is totally useless, letters block paths and you have no idea where to go sometimes. Having no map marker sometimes and no dialogue to remind you or anything like that is frustrating.

Crucial skills being optional is crazy, I'm not sure what the point is of something like evade or shield which are listed in the controller layout being optional to unlock. Has a totally meaningless crafting system, where you have a mythical weapon that might be derived from thors hammer. Yet the main character can somehow craft it into different things with some unknown wizardry which doesn't make sense from a narrative perspective at all. There's a skill tree but for the life of me I can't figure out why, because it's just raising one stat or another. I'm not sure why every developer has to throw in crafting and skill trees when it doesn't fit the game at all. The worst worst worst thing about this game is the brightness. If you set the brightness as they suggest, your head will hurt from how bright the lights in the game are, if you lower it you'll not be able to see 50 percent of everything because it'll be so goddamned dark. For someone who has a genuine problem adjusting to bright lights, this caused a literal headache and tbh I'm not sure what they expect to gain from doing this. I wanted so badly to like this game and I tried several times to play it, I think I'm about halfway through but I can't do this anymore. The trophies tell the truth in the end, because only 32.5 percent have obtained the trophy for the 3rd mission, and this is 10 mission game. This is pretty abysmal actually as its around the completion rate for entire gsmes, and there are plenty of games where the completion rate is 40-50 percent. Can't recommend, at all. Feels like a game made by a corporation in all honesty, and with so many weird decisions and lack of attention to detail. No one loved this game, or cared for it, or nurtured it. An "objective" review might analytically look at it and say it's fine. But it's more about how you feel, and if you want to feel frustrated, annoyed, and bored, then go ahead and buy this game.

The pros of this game are that it has good graphics, a good story and some interesting game mechanics like launch and the ever-changing gun for the director. However, the cons vastly outnumber the pros.

After even playing more of the game the absolute worse check point system of any game I have played, total dumpster fire of a system. Do you like starting check points 5 minutes away from where you died and have to fight your way back to a boss fight only to die again and do it all over again? This would also include large amount of times between check points and having to go back and keep doing over the same old garbage.

Do you like especially long game load times?

Do you like when every once in a while, you go into aim mode for your gun and the graphics basically block your entire view of the enemy you are shooting at?

Do you like long, long, long gun reload times? The worst reload mechanic of any game I have ever played. It is the same gun that morphs into different models but switching (Grip, Charge, Pierce etc..) to other models does not mean you have a full magazine you only have one reload for all guns.

Do you like whenever you empty your gun or use up all your energy the reload times basically double so you are left defenseless?

Do you like getting a very limited amount of resources to buy upgrades and find out that the last gun you can purchase in the game should have been essentially labelled GARBAGE( it is called Charge don’t bother with it), and you find out to late that it was just a waste of resources?

Do you like a poor mapping mechanic and getting lost and a lot of needless running around?

Do you like when you are low health and near death to have the screen turn almost completely red and not be able to see your enemies?

Do you like saving up to increase your health only to find out that it doesn’t matter because the enemies still one or two hit kill you anyways? (This is probably the most annoying feature of the game).

Do you like walking a few feet out of a room you just cleared only to find everything has respawned? Learn to dash by these idiot enemies.

Do you like being behind full cover only to be one shoted by an enemy you can’t see?

If you answered yes to all or some of the previous questions than this is the game for you.

This game becomes very frustrating and if I knew now before I started the game, I would have never bothered to play it. By the end of this game which I finished, I absolutely hated it. The finale is just wave after wave of guys with only one check point at the beginning of the level that I had to repeat a number of times (that happens a number of times throughout the game). Will not play another game developed by Remedy again.

The enviroments are outsanding and imaginative and the graphics are really good, but not the best out there. The story is weird and good but it feels like near the end they had to rush a conclusion.
Another highlight of the game are the secondary missions. They are imaginative and reguarding.

In conclusion, Control is a really good game filled with things to do and places to explore. It has it bad things but I would recomend it.

Literally sucks. What is this, Bloodborne? Atleast in Bloodborne the AI is never 100% accurate. And I atleast know where I'm going.

And there is NO way to heal besides killing another enemy!? HOW CAN I KILL AN ENEMY WHEN I AM ONE SHOT FROM DEATH AND THE AI IS 100% ACCURATE!? AS SOON AS I LEAVE COVER I DIE.

Yeah, i dont get it. I found this game to be boring, horribly written, and derivative of much older games that were more fun. Again, it was like playing The Force Unleashed in a dark room with boring characters. The dialogue was bad enough to take me out of the moment, and i just didnt care about the story. It was like dollar store X-Files, with the replacement agent instead of Scully.

The gun play was clumsy but the "force" powers were fine. I just didnt find the whole scenario interesting.

The one thing i was impressed with, and again its just another "The Force Unleashed" mechanic, but its done well is the destructibility. The way things broke apart and cover was destroyed was done quite well. I thought it at least made the setting a bit less sterile during battles.

Obviously, some people like this game. Im just here to offer another point of view. Before you run out and drop 60 bucks, make sure you know what the game is and what its about. I believed the hype and am disappointed with my purchase.

    Dont make impulse buys.

    Remedy R.I.P.?
A bad game with crude mechanics. The story of the SCP foundation was thrown out, replaced by a surrogate.
Backtracking, grinding, terrible characteristics pumping, instant respawn, only two guns in one moment (although the plot is all one gun) - to do so is an indelible disgrace for a company with a reputation for innovators.

    Over hyped.

The graphics are beautiful but character models are very ugly. The story is full of plot holes and makes little sense. Pretentious with no real substance. The characters have no growth or development. The main character is a total Mary Sue. The game makes good use of visual story telling, but the story itself never really goes nowhere and falls flat on its face at the end.

Now to the game part. The shooting is loose but all the abilities are quite fun to play around with. The map design is awful and navigation can be pain. The level design is weak. Once again, graphics and visual aesthetic over real core design. Performance is unstable on the base PS4.

And finally the game is 8 hours along definitely not worth 60$.

You die a lot because your character is so weak together with low strong. You die, game move back you sometimes a lot, and you need to pass same areas or bosses few times. As a shooter, the game is horrible, big spaces ans weak weapon with targeting the enemy makes you hurt each time, especially when you die because of that you can't simply hit the target, because it is too far. The locations are like some maze, you are lost many times, you don't know where to go spinning around and same areas many times. Game gives you just some marker on the map, but it is not helpful, because of many levels/stairs of the building floor. Expand

Boosting your character seems pointless and even the side missions are very painful and instead of them making the main game a bit easier they present you with the boss fights which just feel like a waste of time. The world building is great with some really interesting lore and characters. The lore is delivered in an entertaining way through notes, memos but mostly through video logs left by a charismatic scientist. Oh and the soundtrack is pretty great too.

The game is pretty tough, so if you aren't very good at third person shooters you might struggle later on in the game when you hit a couple of major difficulty spikes. However, the challenge is worth fighting through as it's very rewarding when you finally beat that pesky boss you've been stuck on by learning it's patterns and figuring out different ways to counter it's attacks.

I highly recommend this game to anyone that is looking for a challenging, immersive, beautiful and well designed video game with a compelling story.

The game is just so fun, interesting and something that feels so fresh to get in 2019. A uniquely crafted, very well thought out, action game that doesn't dumb down its audience.

I love this game. I don't think it's for everybody. It does have narrative issues, and the ending is incredibly anticlimactic (hoping that the DLC will fix this issue and pad the game out more) but for what it is, a very tight supernatural third-person shooter it truly is amazing.

And while there are mechanics that are familiar, plot elements that have been used, the setting altogether is very special. Jesse herself makes for an okay hero, although it really could've used better character development altogether in the game. Some quirky characters are there with enough mystery and humor (looking at you, Ahti the Janitor) to keep the interest afloat, so no worries there.

The real worries are in the annoying systems at place with saving and loading a game after a death. And oh, death... Sometimes you just... fall. And die. Other times it's understandable of course, you just should've looked at the environment more closely. But the game doesn't tell you everything, and all the skills don't work 100% of the time to the players advantage. Most of the time all the throwing and manipulating stuff in different ways is fluid, but other times it can get quite tedious. Combining to that some combat sequences you have to repeat because you died. And had to backtrack from a control point, which also works as a fast travel system. It's just a lot of time wasted. Combat and the environmental destruction though looks incredibly good, which is a real plus.

The variance is also there with the weapons and the enemies, although towards the end it does become a bit dull and repetitive, but not so much as to break the game or make you give up. The game is quality stuff and gives a much better direction for Remedy to go to. Can't say if we got a franchise in our hands, but i do hope this makes enough profit to spark interest in one. There is much to explore in this world plot-wise.

After all is said and done, Control holds up quite well and doesn't really do anything stupid to seem completely ridiculous as a game. It takes itself seriously, but at the same time has these humorous oddities in place that give it color and keep up the interest. A few cool side quests help the cause of course. But then again, a few tedious ones bring it down. Much of the lore is placed around as documents and videos, of which some are interesting to watch, but again, towards the end it becomes harder and harder to keep up with all the material.

I'd say the game is close to being an 8, but technical problems and oddities in combat and checkpoint systems bring it down. Also the plot is a complicated one, and almost falls in its own twists and turns in the multi-dimensional setting. All in all it is an exciting adventure and if you are into strange plots, Inception meeting Matrix and System Shock with Remedy's own twists, you should try it!

A wonderful experiment with some dizzying heights, but unfortunately this game is held back by some severe flaws. Even so, this game is so unique and interesting that I recommend everyone give it a try, but encourage waiting for a significant sale.

The worst problem with the game objectively is the technical performance. The frame rate often slows to a literal crawl, making combat frustrating and difficult. But even outside of hectic scenes, the frame stutter is noticeable. As in, EVERY time you come out of the main menu, the game takes a few seconds to stabilize. This severely impacts gameplay, as you're often killed by attacks that seemingly came out of nowhere.

Another thing is just a general sloppiness to presentation. Menus are overly convoluted and dense. Firing at an enemy often obscures said enemy. The map is almost entirely useless. All these may sound like nitpicks, but it's enough to turn what was initially a fun sense of being lost to a frustrating inability to navigate the world in multiple aspects.

Of course it is a subjective opinion, but I did not get this game at all on my PS4.
    Depressing atmosphere, irritating ambient sounds.
Absolutely ridiculous save system, if you die, then you need to replay way to much. Soapy graphics, way too superficial storyline in the beginning. This game is absolutely not something you would enjoy Friday evening. Loved Max Payne from Remedy though.

Game is way to overrated in my opinion.

Impactful gunplay bolstered by a telekinetic twist, and a mystery you’ll be turning over for a long time afterwards. Welcome to the Oldest House, Director. [Issue#167, p.79]

The writing, direction, and performances are consistently brilliant. This is Remedy at the peak of its game. Control feels like a company rediscovering itself, waking from a long slumber. Remedy’s legs work as intended once more, the vestiges of sleep paralysis a distant memory.

I don’t want to use the word masterpiece lightly, but what else do you call the combination of gleefully chaotic gameplay with earnest storytelling in a setting as refreshingly unique as Bioshock? What else do you call a combat system that goes so far beyond the simple act of shooting a gun without drilling down into a set of intricate menus and complicated controls? What else do you call darkly malevolent horror that doesn’t feel like it was cribbed from someplace else? What else do you call the crowning achievement of a studio with a unique voice, an uneven track record, and 25 years of experience? If there’s a better word to describe what Remedy has achieved with Control, I can’t think of it.
