Worst game i've played so far. Unfinished content, even CoD's that are over 10 years old had more content when the game released. The campaign feels like it was being rushed. Don't get me started at zombies. I have tried 6 times, 6 times the easter egg. Always there was something, a bug, the game just froze i mean like what the **** lol **** this game i spend 100 euros on nothing

    Gameplay: 8/10
There's nothing groundbreaking here, it's pretty much your standard Call of Duty gameplay. But it works just as it has for the past 10+ years and makes for a satisfying FPS experience

    Online/Zombies: 7/10
i should start by saying I'm not the biggest fan of zombie game modes, but I will admit that this one was pretty fun. The multiplayer aspect shows some improvements from previous titles and is pretty entertaining as well. One gripe that I have is that there are some really sh*tty maps that get old very fast.

The game was released incomplete on purpose, so they can add this sick season progress-mode in order to force people to buy it, otherwise the players will lose weaponary. The multiplayer is bad, not because of the SBMM but because of the crossplay and senseless challenges. Zombies is ok and the most enjoyable part of the game.

I think game developers must stop with this stupid season progress-mode. It kills the game a year after its release, makes potential new players lose interest in it (because they can't access to some mechanics or skins) and forces players to start a rage-full grind. I know they want easy and fast money. Call me crazy, but loot boxes are better, because you can get the full game whenever you want. i.e. Battlefield 4 isn't dead and still makes money despite it's been released in 2013. Same with other games SWBTF2, GTA V, PVZ GW.
Thank God I paid only $50 for it. 6/10 because of the enjoyable zombies and campaign (and I'm very generous)

There's finally more to the game then just go get a box weapon, pack it, get your perks and do the easter egg. You have to think about prioritizing kill streaks vs armor, paying to start trials vs buying a couple box weapons every round. You are actually challenged to think about your strategy and trust your team to help you. If you don't have a good team, good luck winning in zombies. The rest of the game I feel is about a six or seven, COD doesn't get me excited anymore, they're just generic shooters and this is done as well as any other imo. The zombies is easily a 9.5 for me, ias soon as we get more maps that goes up to a 10. I do think this might be my favorite zombies experience to date, packaged with a somewhat normal multiplayer shooter and decent campaign. Expand

This game essentially just wastes your time. ESPECIALLY the campaign along with it's character creator.

The campaign essentially relies on flair to keep things interesting but... It's overall a pretty bad campaign that has unnecessary and useless twists and turns that do nothing of value for the story. The multiplayer is well... It's COD multiplayer but, it has plenty of things going

The multiplayer is well... It's COD multiplayer but, it has plenty of things going against it this time around.

The Zombies inclusion is well... It's not that great either.

This game honestly just feels like the life and soul of a COD game was ripped out of it. The campaign especially seemed like it would be something of value up until the end of the game when you realize essentially all your hard work put into the campaign and it's challenges were COMPLETELY useless.

I honestly can't see giving this game anything higher than a 3 out of 10. It's the worst COD game I've played in years. It brings me back to the awful campaign of Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. This game falls right into that same category. A game that wastes your time, energy, and money as well.

In my opinion? Stick with the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It does almost everything well whereas this game, fails at almost everything that game did correctly.

Even with having above the recommended specs on PC my game still drops in FPS down to 8 FPS for like 4-5 seconds out of nowhere, EVERY MATCH. This is a horrible lazily optimized port of this game and it makes me sad to say, but I will be getting a refund and (maybe) playing when it gets fixed. Absolutely unacceptable for a $60 dollar game released in 2020. Such a cheap cash grab.

This game is repetitive and boring and bad. They’ve used an old engine from 2015 & didn’t bother with a major upgrade to the game. Modern warfare reboot of 2019 was the real upgrade using a fresh new engine to the whole franchise. This game is a downgrade compared to the 2019 COD, worse graphics, audio & visuals, not worth it. The GOOD
    - Minimap: There is a minimap, crazy enough this isn't a gimme these days
    - Gunplay: the guns are fun to use and there is 20 at launch with new unlockables coming each season, as well as one unlockable currently in the "pre-season"
    - Balancing: the game is already balanced well with the exception of a couple things that will likely be tweaked within the first patch (ex. Field Mics, MP5, M16)
    - Menu music: Small detail not many care about but it is easily the best menu music of any COD
    - UI: Excellent user interface that showcases in-depth weapon stats including ADS speed, Sprint to fire time, damage dealt at each range, and tons of other stats for each weapon like never before seen in any COD
    - Challenges / Camos: Excellent way of organizing and showcasing challenges, giving the player something to be working towards in terms of a better camo unlock system, including a variety of camos that are obtainable, also an addition of zombies challenges that provide zombie gold, zombie diamond, and zombie dark matter camos
    - Customization: tons of options for attachments, gunsmith is back but better than ever, wildcards that affect perks, attachments, secondaries and lethals
    - Combined Arms: an easy laid back game mode that is made to chill and drink a beer with friends without the worry of SBMM

    The BAD - al
    - Lack of Maps: Only 8 maps and 2-3 are bad: Satellite, Armada and Miami although I particularly don't mind Miami but most dislike it. COD is now focusing on providing a continuous product. If you buy this game, it's not a finished product but more like an updated monthly service. Treyarch has announced 3-5 new maps will be coming in Season 1 (December 10)
Lack of 6v6 modes: could use more traditional 6v6 modes, no Capture the Flag, Headquarters, and many other respawnable 6v6 modes, also no Ground War (Contains TDM, Dom, Hardpoint, KC, and FFA as the only respawnable 6v6 modes)
Snipers: A lot will fight me on this but the snipers need to be nerfed, maybe not them themselves but there is an attachment that lowers the ADS time to be on par with some assault rifles, which is ridiculous. Snipers can also use attachments which remove their flinch. Both these attachments are broken
    - Fireteam Dirty Bomb: it's bad and confusing, just trying to be like fortnite multiplayer mode, just strange
    - Leaderboards: Glitched and not available currently
    - Poor Mid Tier Scorestreaks: Most mid tier scorestreaks feel weak. Sentry turret is easily destroyed, napalm fire doesn't stay on ground, Artillery is a small radius of bomb
    - Bullet velocity: stronger than any COD before, all attachments for all weapons, especially SMG's must use any attachment that improves bullet velocity

The UGLY - not fixable, here to stay
    - Leveling: Confusing, odd, better than Modern Warfare, why can't we just have normal prestige? Apparently there are two seperate levels, season level and rank level? Little info online to find on the subject, some youtubers even suggest their level is glitched because it shows two different levels after prestiging, no one seems to understand how the leveling works once you enter prestige
    - SBMM: By far the worst part of the game, this game seeks to keep everyone's KD and Win/Loss between 0.75-1.25. It's most certainly possible to get out of this range, but it will put you into a much more difficult lobby, the higher your K/D and W/L. Sucks to play with friends with higher stats than you because it is certainly noticeable. One friend with a 2.5 K/D, i can't play with because I struggle to go positive each game but if I play with another friend with a 0.8 K/D, I finish each game on the top of the leaderboards. Very noticeable
    - Scorestreak System: Awful, no killstreaks, no scorestreaks. Rather everyone utilizes killstreaks through death though with a multiplier the bigger the streak. Unfortunately, the end of the game turns into everyone calling in streaks the same time. If you fall behind in Dom, Hardpoint, or other objective game modes you won't get your streaks to try to come back until the game is already decided. No one even knows how the multiplier works
    - Map Design: some of the maps are pretty bad, Satellite, Miami, Armada. They flow pretty bad and are way to open, encouraging snipers, campers, and slow gameplay. Please give us normal 3 lane maps
    - Shotgun secondaries: speaks for itself, these should not be secondaries and everyone uses them. No more running up on snipers, everyone has a shotgun

This games loses points when you look at the number of maps available to play, amount of game modes, and fun options. People complain about the fun balancing but the fact is that they cant play the game without a broken gun. The game’s graphics aren’t the best and the gameplay isn’t so smooth. Connection issues are the main problem. I shouldn’t have to restart my game ever few matches. Expand

The campaign in this game feels like a Black Ops story which it should considering prominent characters like Frank Woods and Alex Mason return. The campaign also delves into the mind bending stuff that the previous Black Ops games explore, but what the story lacks is identity. Black Ops Cold War feels like it relies too much on nostalgia and doesn’t focus enough on the story that ends up being somewhat of a sludge to play through. Granted the addition of side missions are interesting, but they lack reason to play considering there are only three possible endings all of which are anticlimactic and unrewarding given you’ve just spent the last 4-5 hours playing. The story builds off of Black Ops 1 as it takes place after that game, but it doesn’t continue to build the characters like Black Ops 2 did. It is honestly a shame that so much potential was wasted with this story and it is a shame that this game could’ve bridged the gaps shown in Black Ops 2, but the Black Ops Cold War campaigns fails to acknowledge what comes after and in a way it feels as if Black Ops Cold War establishes a new cannon due to the lack of acknowledgment to the previous Black Ops games. A barebones character creator doesn’t make this game any better and the lack of dialogue from the protagonist, Bell, feels like a step back.
Multiplayer is typically the bread and butter in all Call of Duty games with this one being no different. The majority of the player base will gravitate towards the multiplayer with the ability to play with any of their friends despite their platform of choice thanks to cross platform play. No matter if you are playing on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or PC; everyone can play together. The gameplay is also what you’d come to expect out of a Call of Duty multiplayer with this game feeling a little bit more like Black Ops 1 in my opinion. That is honestly where the good stuff about this game mode ends though. As far as the actual experience goes it is a dreadful process. The amount of time to level up not only your career level, but also your weapon level leaves you wishing that the grind was just a tad bit less. For it to take hours if not days depending on how busy you are to unlock attachments and camos for your weapons is unheard of for any Call of Duty game. Despite the many forgettable attachments, this game also launched with the least amount of content out of any modern day Call of Duty. Through multiplayer maps to score streaks and even game modes this game feels like the most barebones Call of Duty in a long time. Now as always we will have a DLC season lasting from December until about November of 2021, but many have already summarized that the content that we’ll be receiving throughout the year is content that has been finished for the game since before launch. This game may prove to be better over time as content rolls out and the implementation of Warzone, but as of right now this is what you get and after a month of playing the experience grows stale very quickly. And Skill based matchmaking is a topic that is above my pay grade.
Zombies is a game mode that has pleasantly surprised me. This is the first Call of Duty game where I have devoted more time to zombies than any other game mode. Up until this point I have only played zombies to use cool weapons and see how high of rounds I can get. I was never too interested in the story and I continue to not really care about the zombies narrative. What this year's zombies experience offers is extreme replayability. With the addition of being able to level up your multiplayer weapons through zombies gives me all the more reason to play it considering I'm not a huge fan of the multiplayer. The zombies mode also introduces weapon, perk, and field upgrades. All of which you can fully max out by achieving high rounds and completing challenges within your matches. Another new edition to zombies is the ability to exfil. When you attempt exfil it puts you in a scenario where you have to clear a lot of zombies for the helicopter to land. The higher the round you try to exfil the harder the process will be. A successful exfil grants you XP bonuses. I never thought I’d say this but after putting in 3x more time in zombies than multiplayer, zombies is truly the saving grace for Black Ops Cold War.
With that being said here at POP! Culture Today we are giving Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War a flat 5/10. This game proves to have a lot of potential, but as of right now you will be spending $60-$100 on a lackluster campaign, a tedious multiplayer, and a fun zombies experience.

The campaign is interactive and full of action, with some stealth missions, more than the other chapters, although it's short and it's the stereotypical story where americans are heroes and the rest of the world is evil (a bit of less in this chapter, even though it's still like this, but I don't want to spoiler, if you will play this game you will understand why), this time you got multiple choices through that could change the ending or the scenarios, for me this campaign it's full of surprises, really fun, unpredictable and more than enjoyable!

Zombies are meh, just 1 map, the gamemode where you need to survive around random multiplayer maps or the chance to play another map with the visual from the top that I find it quite boring.
Die Machine it's fine, but after playing 2 hours I found it boring too, it's basically the same as the old gamemode zombie I used to play on Black Ops with a map and a story that didn't intrigued me that much, but it's cool, better than nothing.
Hope to see more in future maps.

About multiplayer, well, you are all right, it's the same boring sh*t we are seeing since the first CoD Black Ops, except some new gametypes mode, like that one copied from Battlefield but exported in the typical Call of Duty gameplay.

    Campaign vote: 7
    Zombie vote: 6
    Multiplayer vote: 4

If you like spionage and the Cold War History buy it, but wait until price drops cause 70$ for this game it's really too much since after the campaign mode you will get bored quickly.
Could have been a better game, but it's ok.

Being sent on top secret missions to take down Perseus. I also love the fact how you can make choices! This part is so underrated and completely changes the game in a good way. When you get to the end you can lie to Adler or tell the truth. If you lie you’ll fight with Perseus to kill your old team and burn America. I love this ending and I think it’s great. Russell Adler could have been a bad ass, if he had less lines to speak, something like the Noble team from Halo Reach. Frank Woods' was total **** He speaks as if he had just learnt how to swear. James C Burns could have sparked the character of Woods. Alex Mason was another dogsh*t. Totally disrespecting the character from the prequel. The campaign is, for the most part, feels like Cold War, but doesn't feel like Black Ops. The location are pretty good, but doesn't honor the coolness and the stage set by its prequel. The game, once again has Russians as the villain. The game doesn't want to be innovative. Part of it is due to the toxic community. Surprisingly, the game wants to be non linear. But it feels like the game wanted to do it intentionally so as to earn good reviews about its innovations, something the og cod fans have seen in Black Ops II. A sequel of an awesome game should be innovative and iterative in order to get back the fans who loved the game in the first place. (PS. the AI is so fu*king terrible.)
The story isn't consistent with the Black Ops trilogy (i.e., BO1, BOCW and BO2). The game wants to explore more ways to let players interact, which hasn't been explored in previous cod titles, and that's the selling point of this game. Overall, campaign is pretty kickass as on its own as a cod game, not as a Black Ops game.
Now, the multiplayer. This game ranks one above MW 2019 in offering map variety. Eight. Eight fu*king maps!? CoD 4, a game that's 13 years old offered 17 maps. Heck, the prequel this game's based upon offer 14 maps. This is atrocious. Activision/Treyarch have done this intentionally so that they can release cut content as free map dlcs to get good pr. This is completely unacceptable. The gameplay is suited for the campaign, not for the multiplayer. Movement feels clunky and slow. Hit registration is not great. SBMM sucks. Map variety is less. The game wants to feel like BlOps2 multiplayer, but utterly fails at it. The game is yet to implement ranked playlists in its existence of 18 years.
The Zombies can be fun, but makes Infinite Warfare's zombies a masterpiece and make it comparable to Black Ops 4's zombies. It doesn't feel like zombies. But its, meh. (BTW only 1 map)
Overall, this game isn't worth 60$. Its atrocious of Activision to charge 70$ for a game that has a lifespan of less than a year. Not worth it. If Treyarch/Activision can use the excuse of COVID 19 for their mistakes, how come the pandemic hasn't stopped them charging players 70$ to play the game?
This game is one of the worst optimized cod games. The size is ridiculous for the content it offers. Has Treyarch forgotten about compression. It wouldn't be fair as they barely have time to optimize this game as this is an annual release.
The PS-Activision deal is total dogsh*t. Exclusive zombies mode, extra loadout slots and multipliers on XP on a single platform for one year for a game that barely survives a year of release. Great!
I give a 1/10 for the things it want's to try in campaign. Now, the fanboys and the "connoisseurs" of call of duty will starting ****

So first off let’s start with the multiplayer it’s really fun(sometimes) but every game I go into there are literally campers and snipers at every single corner And the spawn in system is trash cuz you can literally spawn in right in front of an enemy and they can kill you in one of my free for all games I literally just spawn in for the first time and not even 2 seconds later I get killed half of the weapons are trash cuz most of them you’ll just be getting hit markers also the Sentury turrets ate wayyyy to over powered it’s like the second it sees you you get killed with only like one bullet if treyarch banned campers temporarily then multiple would be a lot more fun now let’s move onto my favorite game mode........zombies it’s fun and all but they ruined it at the same time first off you don’t start off with the M1911 you start off with any gun you want and that’s a problem cuz it makes the first few rounds way too easy they even added a radar that allows you to know where exactly the zombies are at they even added an attach helicopter you get to control and it lets you kill all the zombies around the map and that itself makes the game way too easy and it dies he feel like treyarch zombies and you start getting tired of it really fast also that glowing zombie boss that chases you around the map is horrible he’s way too hard and even after you supposedly kill him he splits in half into 2 and he’s even more harder to kill he’s basically just a glowing bullet sponge there’s not that many good guns in zombies Either unless you have the wonder weapon or a ray gun your basically gonna struggle in the later rounds(btw did I mention how it’s almost impossible to get the ray gun out of the box now you basically have a 0.8% chance of ever getting it you can be at round 38 and still not have the ray gun) overall it’s fun but very tiring in the earlier rounds it’s way too easy cuz you can spawn in with any class you created and in the later rounds it’s hard cuz most of the guns start to become trash don’t even bet me started about the hell hounds I use to hate them a little less boy now I hate them even more when they spawn in the whole maps cooler turns into a very brought neon green with fog Making it almost impossible to see them and it’s mad annoying now let’s talk about the campaign(spoiler)it’s so much fun I love how you can do brutal take downs and have an enemy as a human shield and create your own character and even name it and pick your own perks and I also love how you can also play as mason(protagonist from BO1,BO2,and ofc Cold War)and I love how your certain decisions cab effect your ending(will get to that in a minute)but what I absolutely despise is that you have to connect evidence with certain enemies in order to catch them basically you have to decipher notes, codes, figure out terminal passwords and it’s mad annoying so I just skip them I’m not gonna spoil the ending of them but all I’m gonna say is all three endings are trash even the supposedly good ending I got was trash but overall the game itself isn’t that good I still have lots of fun on it(sometimes)if treyarch banned campers temporarily and made zombies how they use to make it and made the guns more realistic and powerful in both zombies and multiple then I would rate this Game 5 stars but I give it 3(also I forgot to mention that the bugs in this game are super annoying most zombies game lobby’s i join it straight up kicks me out after not even a split second and no matter what I do it makes my screen way too big and sometimes in the multiplayer lobby nothing ever shows) Expand

For a score to be an accurate representation of the value of a product, all of the product must be there in the first place. COD Black Ops: Cold War is not a finished game. It is, at best, a mid-development cycle beta build of what might have been the best game in the series so far, given an extra 12-18 months of development time.

Starting with the campaign, there's clearly a foundation built here that was meant for a 10-15 hour story. There's an ensemble cast of unique characters, with their own backgrounds, motivations, and personalities, and a hub area where you can interact with them. There's a complex main mission - side mission system that expertly reinforces itself and makes the game replay-able. There's a basic but intuitive character creation system where you choose your characters background, and this actually effects in-game dialogue and gameplay. There are choices you can make that impact the way the game unfolds (although ultimately the ending is a a "press-x for good ending" system.) Nothing here is new, but its all expertly executed, and the writing itself can be gripping. All this is for not, though, because the campaign's length doesn't even outlast that of last year's Call of Duty, a more traditional shooting gallery slog through various locations in the Middle East and Europe. In one of the final missions, two characters who had previously never interacted on screen share light, flirty banter during a fire fight, meant to indicate that they had some kind of history. However, this was 100% from left field and seemed very out of place because nothing that had previously happened in the story indicated that these characters knew each other that well. As someone with a bit of experience in professional writing, this is the kind of thing that usually happens when your boss tells you have to cut a huge chunk out of the middle of your script or story board. On a technical side its also a mess; the AI and shooting mechanics are last-generation, but the modeling is even worse. Most guns look they're made out of ABS plastic, and for every mission there is literally only one model for every enemy. All of the Stasi you sneak around in East Berlin are the same generic character model of a German police officer, all the KGB guards you fight in Moscow are the same generic Russian, all the scientists that are being slaughtered by completely identical Cuban soldiers in one of the final missions are also literally the same character model, even one of them who's named and has voice lines. This is a criminal lack of polish.

I have less to say about the Multiplayer, besides that its decidedly last-generation. Graphics and animations are on par with Black Ops 2 or 3 (although my friends who are on PC say that graphics are better on that platform.) The controls are clunky, aiming is incredibly rough and the rate at which your character turns or aims seems to accelerate or decelerate regardless of your input into the control stick (and this is particularly bad when aiming down sites.) RNG/ping/desync/whatever you want to call it is atrocious even by Call of Duty standards, in all of the games I've played there are multiple instances where I'll get into a firefight with an enemy, seemingly put four or five shots into them, get one-tapped, and then look at the kill cam only to see that from the other guy's perspective I never fired a shot. TTK feels closer to Halo than it does to a military shooter. Maps are also atrocious, either too small or two confusing (looking at you, Miami). Spawns are completely broken, you're either being spawn trapped, spawn trapping the other team, or spawning directly behind an enemy.

Zombies is, well... zombies. Nothing to complain about but also nothing new. The addition of Create a Class to zombies makes the first 5ish rounds more dynamic but after that it has little impact. The map lacks of the creativity and humor of the zombies maps from the last three Black Ops games, while also falling short of providing a gritty and interesting story like CODWW2 zombies. If I'm being honest, there's far more creativity and content coming out of the zombies modding and custom map community than what can be found here.

I can't recommend buying Cold War for the same reason I can't recommend eating partially-cooked chicken. To re-iterate my statement from the beginning, this isn't a game, a incomplete build of what could have been an amazing experience.

Clearly a work in progress at release, but it has the groundwork for a game that will improve greatly over time. It's fun right now and will hopefully get way better by the spring with new maps and patches.

The guns sound like plastic. The movement makes everyone look like they're wearing heelys. The fact that they used an old engine for a 2020 game is beyond me. You can already tell this game was a complete money grab and that little to no effort was put in. And to charge a premium price tag on top of that is absurd. The game feels like it's free to play or maybe even $20 tops. It lacks everything. Expand

The decisions you make, while they can change the course of the mission, have no significant impact on the endings. There's a lots of useless or unnecesary content, like the side missions, or the briefings that feels like they put their time in for nothing, instead of making the story a bit longer.

It could have been a masterpiece, but it was rushed.

Multiplayer: Gameplay isn't as crisp and comlpete like other entries, and tries to find a balance between the old cod and new cod. The gun variety is a bit lower in comparison to past games, but most of the arsenal seems to be really balanced, with the exception of a couple that need adjustments. The scorestreak system is confusing, and it even feels random at times, and is not as rewarding as the old system. The classic mode maps presented in beta are as good as they were in it, but the game only adds two new maps at launch that feel liek they were made with already made assets for the sake of having more maps. Combined Arms is pretty unengaging. The players is set in a large scaled scenario to battle for objectives in teams of 12 players, with many tools at their disposal, like vehicles to travel between locations, armored ships, and turrets in key locations. The mode tries to elevate the classic multiplayer experience, however, for some reason it keeps the same basic objetctives and brings nothing new to them. The potential is there, but for some reason is not used. If the mode offered something like, to try and blow up bombs in the enemy ship, or a large scale conquer domination where a team needs to defend multiple locations around the map, and the other has to take all before time runs out, it would be a hit, but for some reason they decided to use their bigger and newer playgrounds to play the same patio games.

    Points: 7.8
Balanced and fun gameplay but leaves areas with untapped potential and lacks a LOT of content. Like, a damn lot of content.

    Zombies:

Gameplay brings a new progression system that force the player to keep up with it by saving up and collecting the three currencies (points, salvage, hg salvage), to use it on anything they want out of the 14 types of object at its disposal, like a war machine, a C4 a sentry turret, a chopper gunner to annihilate massive hordes in lots of different ways, or to keep up with armor and gun damage level and perks that will save their ass. Die Maschine, is a let down from past launch maps. The place feels empty in the outside areas, and cluttered on the insides. Aesthetically, fails at developing a concept. Every other Treyarch map has a unique style and mood, whereas this one, is the first zombies map that feels like it has no personality. Maps like Shadows of Evil not only had a present and flashy aesthetic, but also pushed the inmmersion to its limits by making a unique HUD, custom perk jingles, made up brands and locations. Die Maschine is torn up between being, a WW2 abandoned experiment bunker, a nuclear fallout, and an abanoned crash site, and every style is half way achieved and divided heavily in the areas of the map. The only achievement is the Dark Aether dimension, where the map turns into this psychodelic and magic light show that looks amazing, but the mode is only available for a minute and a half every now and then, and brings nothing to the gameplay. The new crafting system also deprives the map from having its own traps and equipment to push its narrative. The Wonder Weapon has a nice concepts but fails at being damage effective, and on top of that, the different upgrades bring nothing new and feel generic. The main easter egg quest is extremely short, unengaging, and fails at telling a compelling story to the events of the map, and instead just goes through random bits of storytelling that can't form a consistent storyline. The Boss zombie, is not dangerous at all and brings no challenge to the player, but instead is an annoying projectile launching bullet sponge that after being killed decides to split in two faster and more annoying versions of the iteself. You can also purchease a random that challenge that rewards the player depending on how well they did, however, the rewards are most of the time neither worth the challenge, nor the price. The only thing that saves this empty mess, is its layout, since it has very fun and unique areas to play in, where you can climb up and down on the crashed plain parts, run around in open and empty areas, or enter more tight areas surrounded by resources.

    Points: 8.8
Best gameplay and innovation zombies has had in years, but the map pales in comparison to past works heavily

Graphics are early PS3 looking. Mechanics are somehow worse than previous games in the black ops series. If truly SBMM exists, it’s terrible to play with friends on different skill levels. Disbanding lobbies is one of the worst features. Quite a lacklustre game.

    This game is ass.
The only good thing about it is zombies, they went for something different and i think it was pretty good.
The multiplayer sucks, only has 8 maps which are all trash.
The campaign feels rushed and not as good as previous instalments with a really bad and confusing story.
this game shouldn't be £50 it should have been £20 because the only good thing about it is the zombies.

The campaign isnt very long though its roughly 4-5 hours. I also hate the fact that you have to download the campaign into 3 seperate parts the **** is this a telltale game seriously come on now.

Things can all be grand and dandy as long as it doesnt freeze or crash your system which has happened to me multiple times. It happens specifically on a mission called desperate measures for me. Can really ruin the experience.

    Zombies:

From a first glance of playthroughs you may be thinking what in the actual **** is this **** But trust me zombies is actually ok its not that bad can be a good time also altough repetitive. Doesn't feel like a Treyarch zombies game at all which is a shame, this one feels more WW2 esque. But hey ill take this over B04 Zombies tbh. Also dont get why zombies and multiplayer have shared levels. Why the **** are we using multiplayer operators aswell instead of some original characters.

    Multiplayer:

MP5... huge ****ing maps. My advice would be just play hardpoint as i find whenever i play other modes its like playing ****ing COD Ghosts again. Lads sitting in the corner of a room waiting for about 2 minutes for one kill everybody running ghost and as i mentioned above the mp5. Not a fun experience at all unless you fancy smashing your head through your window in frustration.

Only fun game mode is hardpoint. Seriously if you hate the other modes in this cod just try hardpoint once makes things a little better as you can actually enjoy the game instead of either dying of boredom or frustration from some **** sitting in a room all game doing the worm squirm.

    Overall:
Campaign is aight besides the constant crashing and length can be enjoyable as long as it works.
Zombies is fun but will get boring after a while. Would suggest playing with friends if you can as long as they are as unfortunate as us for buying this ****
Multiplayer just try to steer clear of if you can. its a ****ing mess right now and as i mentioned hardpoint is only enjoyable game mode.

Can kinda cut them a tiny bit of slack given the good ol pandemic right now but this game feels like an unfinished mess. Either steer clear of it or wait till it drops in price, dont be a ****ing idiot like me.

Gets a 4/10 for zombies and when campaign wants to work

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Multiplayer is filled with extremely overpowered weapons and poor map design. The skill based matchmaking system looks good on paper however it can result in a complete unbalance in teams and stops good players from casually having fun. The meta at the moment is m16 - aug - mp5, there is no other reason to use any other guns. In most circumstances these guns will win the gunfight even if the user does not hit the most shots or get the first shot in the engagement. The score streak system results mega streak spam, it is impossible to go 2 minutes without hearing spy plane above. The streak system also results in some players joining the game late and getting less kills, damage or obj and still placing higher on the leader boards due to the bonus from streaks. In addition to the m16 , aug and mp5 being extremely overpowered players must deal with snipers having very little flinch. This results in SMG or AR players landing multiple shots at range but not standing a chance in the engagement against snipers. The map design results in players playing extremely slow due to a ridiculous amount of angles to watch out for whenever pushing any area.
Some 6v6 maps are better such as crossroads strike and armada strike however playing 6v6 for an extended period of time is mind numbing and extremely draining due to the SBMM. Some maps such as cartel suffer from extreme clutter and visibility issues, on cartel the bushes in the middle of the map result in not being able to see players at all inside of that area, the only way to solve this is to sacrifice an attachment slot to use a flashlight for an extended ads detection range. The game also suffers from many bugs, some i have experienced include completing camo challenges only for the camo not to be unlocked until i restart my game, the shroud skill on zombies glitching players under the map and many more. In the multiplayer there is also a huge problem on armada with spawns and the vehicles in the game. The spawns seem completely unpredictable and almost like the game is just guessing where to spawn a player, multiple times i have spawned on the same spawn boat as multiple enemy players and this results in a free kill for the enemy multiple times. The boats and jet skis are ridiculous. The gunboats are extremely powerful and often players can camp near the zip lines on a spawn boat to guarantee plenty of free kills. The jet skis are extremely buggy often resulting in my own jet ski jumping onto a friendly jet ski or flipping over and pointing me in the wrong direction.
There are some positives, the guns do feel really nice when the aim assist doesn't bug out and when not facing the overpowered weapons in the game. The movement after a moderate adjustment period feels refined and fast paced, slide cancelling and cameras feel reduced massively resulting in less unwinnable gun fights.
The zombies mode is actually extremely fun, completing the Easter egg and going through all the steps is one of my favorite parts of the game. The skills and different ways to spend aether crystals results in more creativity with your load out to approach zombies. However upon completion the realization that the calling card for completing the Easter egg isn't even animated and the last 45 minutes to an hour you spent completing it was near pointless. The campaign is rather fun and solving the different puzzles using evidence is quite interesting however it is far too short. The choice of ending is quite interesting and it does allow for you to decide how you want the story to end however the change in cut scenes is rather dull, i wish there was more difference and more explanation at the end to the consequences of your choice. There are many more issues i haven't touched on such as the dullness of multiplayer camos, the lack of difference with the sights for your weapon and how horrible it is to try see a clear sight picture through your site when firing the weapon.
This game needs a big update and injection of content.

Full of bugs and crashes, with barely any weapons and only 6 maps. (Older CoDs launched with 13).

Weapon balance is non-existent and SBMM ruins and matches you play with friends.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War ends up mirroring what the Call of Duty franchise offered last year, with some new additions that are also welcome, especially for long-term fans. While being set during a very intense period, the campaign ends up erring for its disappointing longevity, even though the value of repetition is intrinsic to it. Zombies are back in style, while multiplayer gains an excellent new mode, but here it errs again for the arsenal's lack of variety.

While Cold War is a part of a series I would have said that I loved, I can’t fully embrace it now knowing that this work is trucking in harmful stereotypes via patriotic-tinged gameplay. A decent CoD multiplayer experience will likely emerge from the currently-underwhelming Cold War, but I’m going to seriously consider whether that gameplay is worth enduring (and supporting) the rest.

There’s a surprising number of changes, and most work. With an enjoyable campaign and a generous amount of online content, Cold War deserves a warm reception. [Issue#183, p.68]
