I wish that I had so that way I would've been more prepared for this epic game. Bloodborne, I believe, is the killer app for the PS4. If you have a PS4, and you don't have this game already, you're nuts! I don't want to spoil anything because this game is utterly incredible, and needs to be experienced in order to really appreciate it. From Software did good on this one. This is honestly one of the best games I have ever played. It's fun, addicting, and feels rewarding when you get passed those really difficult parts you've been attempting for hours. The first thing you see in the game are its visuals. Holy crap are they good! The environments are so lively and proportionately lit that it feels almost real. The co-op in this game is also fantastic. Beckoning you friend to join your world, and help you kill the dang Blood-Starved Beast (if you've fought it, you'll know what I mean) is a cooperative experience unlike anything thing I've seen in previous games. This game deserves all the praise it's getting. Again, I implore anybody that owns a PS4 to buy this game. I guarantee that you will have zero regrets for this purchase. Expand

Lets see, where to start. I am having trouble coming up with the right words to describe how much I love Bloodborne, and how playing Bloodborne makes me feel. I am having trouble coming up with the right words to describe how much I love Bloodborne, and how playing Bloodborne makes me feel. It's a feeling that i have not had in a long long time, probably not since since Super Metroid on snes. First off, I feel like Bloodborne in itself is a compliment to all gamers. It really shows how much From Software respects us. Sure it is very difficult and extremely punishing, but that is most of what makes it fun. They don't tell you what to do, where to go, who to kill, who not to kill, how to kill, etc. You are not spoon fed ANYTHING. You also wouldn't know the whole base of the story unless you look real hard to find explanations. I think this is because From Software developers know that gamers are a smart people and do not like to be patronized. HAha.

The best thing about Bloodborne for me is the high I get when I finally beat a boss or get past a part that I tried over and over and over again. I was somewhat lucky in the sense that I have never played any of the souls games so I had no expectations going in. However, most of the reviews I have seen from people who DO play the souls games still love it. I highly suggest this game to anyone who wants to stand outside of the box for a real challenge. DO NOT buy this game if you like mindless fps that take a day to finish. :-)

My one and only gripe, and why I gave this game a 9 instead of a ten is the time it takes to load after dying. I don't care how good you are, you are going to die A LOT. That is ok, but there is about a 1 minute loading time before you re-awaken. It doesn't sound long but if you lost a lot of blood echoes (you will understand what blood echoes are once you play the game) it feels like an eternity.

    P.S.
There will probably be a time at the beginning of the game that you think about quitting the game completely because of one part you cant get passed. This is what happened to me, but DON'T QUIT. Once you get passed the first barrier you will slowly but surely chip away little by little. The feeling of triumph you will have is incredible. Like legal heroin. HAPPY HUNTING!

**** ridiculous, that I took half an hour and typed over 8 pages on Microsoft word for my review on this game with sections spaced out for things such as "Presentation", "Gameplay", and "Music" and when I paste it on the site, the formatting is all **** up. You can't be as expressive on Amazon but at least you can **** get all of what you want to say out on any given product.

Oh and now this site is automatically sensoring F bombs, great. Perhaps I should just start a blog or something. Between this and Amazon, this lack of expressive freedom is killing me. **** you Metacritic, **** you Amazon.

Learning how to overcome each challenge, and become deadlier than the creatures that at first seem impossible is truly satisfying. It's an experience that not many games can provide.
Bloodborne is a masterpiece marred by a few forgivable flaws. The frame rate could be better, as well as the load times. The rag doll physics are pretty silly. The better you get at the game, the less you'll die, and see the loading screen.
Casual gamers and people who are easily frustrated should pick a different game.
All the 0/10 scores here are ridiculous. These are the people with no patience who got their ass kicked and gave up.

After spending a lot of time with this game, through every boss fight and every grueling lore-ridden piece item, and screwing up a few story-lines due to ignorance, I think that I can accurately depict the essence of this game.

As a point of honesty, I have to admit that I was avidly awaiting this game's release. Watching every trailer. Following each release of boss battle glimpses and interviews regarding the game. I overdosed on the news. The game has high expectations for me. I expected a game that fit into the niche that From Software carved itself in today's gaming industry. I expected a brutal masterpiece that dove into a gothic atmosphere.

    I was not disappointed.

The game is made out of the same mold that the Dark Souls series is forged from. As an avid Souls player, the feel is definitely there, with enough new features and changes to the formula to make it feel like its own game. To those who are used to rushing in with no sense of direction and hope for the best, the game is an exercise is futility. Mistakes are not tolerated and you are punished accordingly.

To the gamer who is willing the play the game as it is intended, it becomes a fantastic journey into a rich and thrilling world. The game comes as close to nirvana as possible as far as satisfaction while playing a game. One of the balances that From Software has successfully done is drawing the line between difficulty and innate satisfaction with completion. The satisfaction that you get from beating a difficult boss is one that I feel is unparalleled by other games. A boss that you easily breeze by isn't really a boss. Ones that reward good and tight gameplay, on the other hand, is one that makes you feel accomplished, even if the only thing telling you that is the blue flash of the phrase "Prey Slaughtered." By the end of the game, that might have been my favorite saying.

There is a lot of hate against the game for not explaining its upgrade system, how certain items work and just pretty much throwing you in with no explanation, very little prologue (oh, and no weapons) and expecting you to thrive and learn from your mistakes. One of the main issues I saw this this was that there were people who wanted to play the first AAA title in recent memory to live up to the hype. (really when was the last one that did...The Last of Us?) and were surprised when it didn't hold your hand. Unfortunately, even with the hype of difficulty, it still made some people spend money, then get mad when they didn't have the patience to learn. That is the key to the souls games. Patience and persistence.

From Software had a catchphrase for the Souls games essentially saying the dying is what will happen. Over and over. The first of the Dark Souls games to get a rerelease was called the "Prepare To Die Edition." From a company that does that, it makes you learn from your mistakes. It took the formula that we all inherently live by, the threw it into the video game world. A movement that went into BB is the shift towards Mobs instead of single enemies, making decisions on weapons choices, and trick weapon choices, have even more impact.

Character Creation is fantastic. Gothic and Lovecraftian is the closest thing that can be described, with the characters becoming more and more twisted as the game progresses.

The settings are great, graphics might be a tad on the blurry side as far as the up close scenery goes, but we are not running this on a top-of-the-line PC. This is a PS4 exclusive, and yes, there are still some frame rate issues. Graphics are done very well for the hardware, and that is where that discussion should end.

    Few Cons:
There are a few complaints which keeps this from the ultimate masterpiece. The loading times are not the best. at a few locations, I was getting 38 seconds for loading. I am not docking points for this since it doesn't affect gameplay, but it is there non-the-less. The need for using Hunter's Dream as a hub would not normally be that big of an issue, but the problem was exacerbated by the loading screen times. Instead of loading right to where I wanted to go, I had to go through 2 loading screens to get there, making the screens all that more incessant.

There is not an option to be able to replay a boss. I know this is a carry-over item from the other games, but I would like to be able to go back and see if I could do better, even if it meant that I didn't get Blood Echoes.

The PVP has connection issues. period.

A complaint I keep hearing is that there needs to be more save points/checkpoints. This is not the case. The game is so intricately laced together that the save points are perfectly spaced apart. Might be nice, but if you play well, it shouldn't be a problem.

If you are ready for a grotesque and intricate Video game adaptation of what it would be like if Poe and Lovecraft had a baby and it ate diamonds for breakfast, you will thoroughly enjoy this thoroughly engaging and rewarding experience!

A nice improvement on the Dark Souls games, retaining their (in)famous difficulty. Progression is steady enough and you get a lot of single player content for the price. Only downsides are a lengthy load wait (in a game where dying is inevitable) - they should have included the lore and item descriptions. Also weapons can go through walls sometimes.

I waited until several weeks into it to write this review. The options for your character as you progress are wide open. You develop your character how you like. The gameplay is fluid and the environments are beautiful in a very dark and eerie way. Whether you are in the city or in the woods the layout is superb. The music score is perfect to set the tone for a challenging and rewarding adventure. This game is very difficult but death comes to the impatient and foolish. Once you learn to play and manipulate the strategies within the game success follows and the rewards are plentiful and keep you coming back for more. Sure this game isn't for everyone. Some enjoy the feeling of ultimate warrior and dominating a game start to finish. This isn't for you, if you have no patience, and cannot accept a challenge that actually tests you go back to Call od Duty or Halo or whatever simple game you've been enjoying. Bloodborne is just what the doctor ordered for this generation because honestly the best games this generation are two retreads that being The Last of Us and Tomb Raider. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So at the point of this review ive accumulated about 30 hours in bloodborne and im still not done yet and that says a lot because there arent many games that are mult-player competitive games that i put this much time into. ive never played any of the souls games but i found to be at home at this game, now it is hard i found myslef rarly dying due to my experience at playing hard games.
Story: Bloodborne is not told by traditional narrative. so everything is cryptic and you really gotta pay close attention to every little detail in the game. the player in the game travels to yarnahm to retrieve some special blood for some type of illness that you apparently dont know anything about and the game never really explains. The reason that there are so many creatures outside is some kind of plague. The reason you hunt them is actually to survive which is surprising to many people because the game does portray that you are doing this for some type of reason.
Gameplay: This game works on offense that place dollars more on attacking speed and well-timed dodging and this is evident from there literally only being one shield in the game its pretty crappy. your secondary weapon is a gun that helps with good timing on enamys this along with a few other changes compared to the souls games gives this game its own identity. this game is very fast paced not only you but enemies are quick forcing you to time your dodge and i think that suits some people. Every weapon in the game has its own transformation which presents some type of advantage whether it be power, speed or the distance of your attack you can improve the weapon by finding blood shards. you can buff your caracter with blood which also works as currency to buy anything but when you die you lose it but have the chance to go back and get it. they had an interesting approach to armor in this game rather than just giving you armor thats overall statistically better than the last one you have to find them in the areas or buy buying them for killing bosses. This game is challenging but it is possible thats all you have to remember, its more of a mental thing where they actually get you into believing this game is harder than it really is its more mentally challenging. it is frustrating you need patience but it is one of the most rewarding games that is part of its charm. there are not many games you get the same satisfaction from beating bosses in beating the game that you will find anywhere else.
Visuals: The architecture and the design of the world is fantastic like everything in this game is like a very detailed.
I say bloodborne is a game that is worth buying brand new.

The 2 reasons it did not get a 10 from me:

    1) The load screen after death is relatively long, only amplifying the anger you feel from whatever method just caused your death.
    2) Story? 10 hours invested and I still have no idea what my purpose is exactly except to kill stuff.

This game is definitely a must in your collection if you like challenges and want to try the Dark Souls series (this is a good start).
    Overall rate: 9/10

    Graphics: 8/10
The surroundings in this game and the details on the characters are beatiful (if you like dark/gothic) but when you pay attention to the details of some elements in this world you can find some minor flaws.
The most critical point about this topic is the rate drop in some areas and the long loading times.

    Game play: 8/10
Game play is very smooth and dynamic. it really remains me a lot to Zelda Ocarina of Time (without the stamina restraint).
It is a little tricky a the beginning, especially if you don't read the tutorial at the clinic and hunter dream, you may have a hard time understanding.
However there are some issues with the AI of certain enemies and bosses that need to be improved, as well as more customization on weapons and attires was missing.

    Story: 10/10
Story is pretty interesting and dark. However it will not reveal to youf for itself (It really came out of any Lovecraft or Kafka's books).
You will need to discover the additional details from dark tale from the inhabitants and secret items of the Gothic land.

    Atmosphere: 10/10
Atmosphere is just amazing: the soundtrack, enemies and surroundings fill this amazing dark/Gothic world like no other game in this generation.

    Content: 9/10
This game can be replayed several times and you will keep finding new stuff and challenges (as difficulty keep increasing and there are multiple endings available).
On-line feature is also available on this game and works fine if you manage to find someone to join you on this adventure.

The reason why I mention this first is because these games aren't for everybody, they're difficult, yes, but that is part of what makes it so great. They're games that rape you until you love it, and boy did I love it every single time. Now to focus on Bloodborne. For someone who's is coming from the previous Souls games, this is a true masterpiece. Graphics, audio, voice acting, dialogue, story, performance, and most important of all; atmosphere are top notch. The weapon transformations are probably the coolest thing I've ever seen since the climbing mechanics in Shadow of The Colossus. The bosses ooze inspiration and are incredibly unique. The heavy emphasis on guns on this game is also a plus. I practically forgot what a shield was. The regain system is brilliantly done, giving you a small window of time the retrieve your recently stolen health back from beating the **** out of the enemies that took it from you. Gameplay is so aggressive and fast-paced which is a huge change from previous souls games. So if you have any interest in this game whatsoever, as tiny as it may be, you should really check it out. If not, you would be missing out on one of the best games I've ever played and will EVER play. Thanks for reading. Expand

Though the gameplay is rough around the edges and even dated in some aspects, Bloodborne is an intelligently designed action-RPG elevated to excellence by a superb Gothic atmosphere and an ambiguous storyline which gently invites you to unravel mysteries as unfathomable to the in-game characters as they are to you. Be aware that those who 'understand' the storyline are now hollowed husks existing only to enact the merest whims of The Great Old Ones... Expand

I wanted to wait until I finished the game before writing a review, but this is proving harder than I expected. I play it for 30 seconds, I then die, and then I have to stare at a loading screen for more of less one minute. Rinse. Repeat. Half-hours of days wasted with no entertainment forthcoming and trying to figure out the controls. I have better things to do with my time.

Single Player - 9/10 - Even though, there are a long loading time and frame rate drop when you get near campfire. Bloodborne is still a fantastic game. Graphic is detailed, Enemy's AI is great, the lv designs are top-notch and especially the atmosphere its created is so dark and so bloody.tn my opinion, blood borne is much better than Dark Souls 2 in single player. However, I deduct 1 point because it is not friendly to new comers. The difficulty in this game rises up a lot from Dark Souls 2, especially at the beginning even me myself still had to spent some time to adjust to the new combat system and the first boss has many movements if compared with Last giant ( 1st boss in DS2). On top of that, you cannot up level until you get first "Insight". That makes it even harder for new new player. Another reason is that the story is ... um very unclear. the concept is interesting actually but there is not much to it. NPCs are too few. Fromsoft could improve this aspect but they chose not to. Chalice Dungeon is not attractive to the majority of people because the loots you will get are not motivating enough and it is completely separate from the main story, that is why people tend to continue playing storyline and ditch out chalice dungeon . Anyway, if you can accommodate to combat mechanic, Blood Borne is very fun to play. The variety of weapons is not as much as DS2 but every weapon has two forms so I think that make them even at this point.

Ok now, Let's talk about Multiplayer

Multiplayer - 6.5/10 - well I think it is disappointed if compared with DS2. The main problem is that it is hard to find someone to coop or pvp with (wait for 5 mins to 30 mins, depending on your luck). On top of that, for pvp, the healing potion in this game is too fast to interrupt. Therefore, if both sides keep healing, the duel can escalate to a long battle which is not satisfied because you will have to spend money on your potions and ammo later on. Unlike Estus in DS2 which it will replenish every time you back to bonfire. There are also gems that are super powerful (like +20% of dmg) and you can equip 3 of them. So, the difference between +10 weapon plus gems and +7 no gem is too huge. PVP is not as balance as DS2 in my opinion. However, it is not that mutiplayer in this game is bad (pls don't get me wrong), actually it is very good if you have never played any souls game before. You can coop with someone else or pvp with him, test your build and skill. It gonna be a lot of fun, IF you don't hav to wait so so long to get a match. It's just killing everything. [Although, many people claims that you hav to be around lv 110 and invade in nightmare areas only, well, compare to dark souls 2 you don't have to do that, squeeze crack red eye orb anywhere and u will get a match almost instantly ]

In summary, Blood borne is a very great game. It is worth 60$ for single player alone. However, do not expect much from mutiplayer. Once you are done with the game, the replay value is not much. Playing first time, searching every nook, I spent 40 hours+ which is a good length. For new players who never played any of souls game at all, I would say, if you don't have patience, you should not buy because it will get you frustrated for sure, you need to spend sometimes to learn the game, depending on your gaming skill (maybe 2 hours to 1 week). If you are casual gamer, please stay away because this game requires you to react fast and concentrate all the time. However, if you really want to try it out, I will give you the most important tip, that is "DO NOT GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT". If you struggle, search info from Google, watch Youtube and more importantly, use Beckon bell to call ally for help. If you can endure until you pass second boss (which you should get a hang of the game around that time), you will never want to stop playing this game again. You will become addicted and unable to withdrawn yourself from this bloody-combat challenging game. Trust me : )

This does include the Dark Souls games, because this is not like those iterations. This is a fast paced, dodge or die kind of game. Now while many will feel it is not their type of gameplay, they are probably right. You will love or hate this game. For someone looking to be challenged, looking for fairness, looking to get their ass handed to them so they have to think in a different light, then this game will be right up your alley. But if you are a relaxed gamer who likes playing games just to earn trophies or just to feel as though you are the greatest, you will NOT like this game at all. This game will test you, it will try your patience, and it will have you frustrated. Yet you still see yourself coming back to it with a new plan, a new tactic, a new strategy. I have wanted to scream and pull out my hair because I have been brutally dismembered by certain enemies, and I have laughed hysterically revisiting the first areas and wiping the floor with their bodies as if I was a kid with an ant hill. I have had incredible amounts of fun, the combat is tight, controls become natural within the first few minutes.
This like all FROM SOFTWARE games, does not have a very detailed story. But it definitely makes you crave to find the pieces or speak to the NPC's to learn more. The art styles, Architecture of the game, character models, and various weapons are beautifully and interestingly done. Making each area feel unique. Now there are no Mimic chests in the story just to give you that sigh of relief if you are a Dark Souls veteran on the fence about picking this up. But to quickly transition from praising this game to criticism, you will die... A LOT. So much so that I am fairly certain the UN is looking to send you support, and the Geneva convention is trying to write new rules for you. You will also feel cheated at times, even if you feel it wasn't fair or warranted. I also noticed that when using elevators unless you time walking to a platform while it still moves just right you will slide through the space and fall to your death (I recommend doing a dodge roll it avoids this annoyance). My last complaint is the Frenzy meter. While yes you can use sedatives to diminish it to 0 it is frustrating that while in combat that frenzy bar fills very quickly and will kill you or nearly eliminate all your health. When trying to focus on just survival from an enemy and having that fill up at the same time it will discourage you at times because it feels very cheap to kill you in that way. Now that is not to say there are not other ways to get around this. But you will feel angry about it at times. Overall I have loved this game from start to the final moments. I am unable to really tell you no don't pick this up. I will say this though, if you are unsure wait for a used copy or a price drop even if it takes a while. While I want to give this a 10, I cannot due to the lack of a story and the minor flaws in the game.

I've read about how this is for old school gamers. Not true. Most posters that rave about this 'series' are much younger than I am. This game is good at wasting time, and only time wasters can truly appreciate it (or perhaps those that are paid to play games).

Now I realize there are different ideas of what constitutes wasting time. I mean it in the closest to pure sense of the word you will find. You can literally play this game for hours with nothing to show for it.

The game does build or at least require discipline. The discipline to play a very specific way, even if you don't want to, even if it's not fun. Some people might call that work... like me.

The user and critic scores for this garbage are the most outrageous since GTA4 got 10s. I used to proudly associate myself with gamers, but with DOTAs, FPS teabaggers, iPad/facebook gamers, and now these souls games, I (a true old school gamer) am just completely alienated.

This review will be a drop in an ocean of masochism, but I have to post it anyways. This game is garbage in almost every way, with perhaps decent graphics.

I've played each game starting with "Demons Souls" and while "Dark Souls 2" was slightly less challenging than the truly difficult "Dark Souls" that trend is reversed with "Bloodborne". I really enjoy a lot of the changes- the setting being first and foremost. This is a Gothic title with a setting similar to "Dracula" the novel- Victorian, dark, dingy but also beautifully rendered.

The Souls games were always some of the sharpest looking on PS3 and "Bloodborne" continues this trend on PS4. The combat is faster and more fluid which at first is very challenging even for vets (the lack of good shields ramps up the difficulty curve greatly) but the ability to dodge is more intuitive when locked on to a target. Dodge will be your friend in this game as just like other Souls games the monsters are all deadly and the bosses are even deadlier. Also with other Souls games the environment presents its own hazards so suffice to say you will die....often.

With any Souls game though the point isn't how often you die but what you learn from the experience and "Bloodborne" rewards persistence. Another great change is healing items are once again easier to come by and you can actually recoup a certain amount of life that is taken away by an enemy striking you if you're quick enough. This may make "Bloodborne" on its face seem easier than previous incarnations but it really isn't- the enemies are a lot tougher this time around, even the weaker enemies aren't pushovers like previous versions. This game is definitely worth getting if you can handle repeated failure and don't mind a challenge. It's beautiful to look at, has great atmosphere and lighting, the enemies are well made and the action is fierce. Or to be a little shorter, if you're reading this review and remain unconvinced, go out and buy the game right now.

I've played the other souls games, but they always give you the ability to level up from the get go. This ensured that whilst you are settling in, and dying a lot (and in the process getting better at the game), that you do not feel like you're completely wasting your time. Bloodborne however insists that you learn before you can play the game. Some people love this, I wasn't a fan, and I think it was Bloodbornes only misstep.

I've loved the previous games in the series but they always felt a little clunky and slow, even when rolling an agile build they don't really compare to the speed at which bloodborne plays. This is the best thing about the game. Inherently it is another souls game with a mysterious story, challenging combat and big boss fights, but dropping the shield and upping the aggression level means the game feels fresh.

The world itself is stunning and the detail in which it's been realised is quite frankly staggering. Whilst the levels never truly open out to any great degree they are interconnected in wonderfully elaborate way. Souls games have always got a great sense of discovery about them, the lack of handholding and the difficulty in accessing some areas gives you a real sense of accomplishment and wonder when you do find a new area or shortcut.

The game is a meaty one and took me a good 27 hours on my first play through, and this was without touching the chalice dungeons. Others will progress quicker and others slower, but I don't think anyone will complain about the games length. Some of the bosses are somewhat simple in the vanilla run through (only becoming challenging in NG+), some areas aren't as well designed as others with the Nightmare frontier being a rather dull area when compared to the rest of the world, but it's such a small fraction of what's on offer it does little to diminish the whole.

Bloodborne streamlines the equipment side of things and whilst the weapon list is substantially shorter the weapons themselves are far more distinct from each other than they've been before. No longer are there 20 different variations on a long sword, they're still 3-4 but they all have substantially different secondary modes. Armour is no longer a matter of getting the best, you start with good armour and whilst there are some higher stat armour sets out there it is usually about finding the best for a situation rather than a defacto power set.

For those who've played dark souls, think a quicker, more focused, more brutal game. For those who haven't, despite some early annoyances, the game is quite frankly one of the best I've ever played, it won't be for everyone, some won't have the patience, others don't have the time, but for those who do you will be rewarded with a very special game that leaves you wondering how the next souls game could be any better?

So, it was with trepidation that I picked this up on release. I'm very happy to say that it was worth every penny. I've read some of the negative reviews on here and frankly, those guys simply aren't good enough. Neither was I, at first...

I died a lot initially, getting a little further each time, then when I was comfortable I could do the first bit without losing too much damage, I just repeated it, returning to the save lamp each time to level up my character and buy armor and health vials. I did this for an hour or so and then I ventured even further and encountered a giant troll with a house-brick. He beat me to death with said house-brick and I came back and destroyed him, a few of his friends on the stairs with their attack dogs, and was feeling pretty good about myself until I was mamed to death by the two werewolves up on the bridge. By this point, I was hooked.

The game does get frustrating, but that's a stick-over-carrot way of forcing you to improve, it also ramps up the tension knowing that you could die at any moment due to either overwhelming odds, or your own carelessness. This gives it a sense of horror and foreboding that you don't even get in most actual survival-horror games these days. The game is beautiful, some great graphics (not "the Order:1886" great, but still very impressive,) and an excellent gothic/horror art style, which was what drew me to the game in the first place. It's a shame the frame-rate tends to drop when there's a lot going on - it's not game-breaking but it is noticeable. And of course, the game does have an infamous amount of loading, about 40 seconds each time you die or warp to a new area, but it's not anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be (usually, you need the break after you've just died to catch your breath anyway...)

The monster design is exquisite and the game-play is incredibly gratifying, making hunting monsters an exciting, satisfying experience. And each boss you kill, weather on the first or tenth attempt, brings a sense of achievement that's very rare in modern video-games. If you get lost, use a walkthrough as there are lots of areas that are well hidden. If you're dying a lot, get better or quit. There is no "easy" mode. But if the game gets its claws into you before you quit, there's no gaming experience quite like it.

They were never loved on their initial release. They started to get love after a year and a half of dark souls. Personally i hate the trick weapons. At first i was amazed like everyone who has seen it for the first time. But the lack of weapon disappointed me. Also you are not able to dual wield any more(which was my favorit thing about demon/dark souls. Using moonlight butterfly spea on left and moonlight sword on right). After about 50 matches online every opponent feel the same due to the lack of weapon. if they put in about 20 more weapons and some different options for the off hand it would half solve the problem. And i personally dont understand whythey didnt put a twin blade/dual wield sword. Am i the only one who think that could have been an obviouse weapon to put in the game? And also the lack of covenant really turned me off. What happend to all those fun covenant ;-; The game felt very incomplete for me. Compared to the other souls game. But on the other hand. I fricking love the story of this game. I found it really interesting. The atmosphere was on point. I was on the edge of my seat when i was playing this game anticipating an attack. I also like how this game is really fast pace. But i personally didnt feel that this game was challenging as the other souls game. But overall this game is wayy too overrated. I think that the older souls game deserve so much more love. I kinda got bored of this game already because the pvp just gets really boring compared to the other souls game. The gameplay is well...a taste thing...Its different from the souls games and since there is no shield it loses some diversity. However the fighting style is stil nice and weapon transformation allow you to make devastating combos.

TLDR;:The game is nice...but it has issues.. solid 7

Gameplay is brilliant and a notch above the previous souls titles, fast and fluid, you will feel the weight behind every swing. the satisfaction behind every visceral attack, the fulfillment of stomping over the corpse of your foes. Stats has been streamlined to allow for more focus builds and still allow for enough diversity such that everyone should be able to create a combat style they like.

Cons: PvP is kind of hit and miss, there's no issue with gameplay (apart from the usual honor crowd crying and whining about healing), but connectivity truly needs to be improve upon. 10-15 minutes between matches is a frustrating experience that will make dedicated PvP players sob. Hopefully a PvP arena style DLC can be introduce in the future to address this.

Bonus Free Online Content: After beating the game, you get to enjoy the prestigious feeling of being one of the few that beat the game and not letting the game beat you. Get you popcorn and beverage, there's plenty of whiners and crybabies who will claim the game is too hard or is of bad game design, their spirits has truly been broken by Bloodborne.

caveat for those reading user reviews and those considering buying: this game is an action-based Role-Playing Game (RPG) with stat and resource management. this is not a straight ACTION game nor adventure game. this game is not like Devil-May-Cry nor Assassin's Creed. i've seen the pattern on the negative reviews that these gamers were expecting to play an action game hence their frustrations...

on a technical standpoint, the game is beautiful with a fully-rendered 3D world littered with destructible objects. however the game is not fully optimized, heavy action situations causes frame-rate dips, the huge worlds require a 40-second loading time and the loading screen is bland...

the story is genuinely well-planned. the game does not rely on cut-scenes to tell the Lovecraftian horror story befalling the inhabitants of Yharnam, you piece it together from your interactions with the various NPCs and item descriptions...

game play wise. this game is not really THAT hard if you don't rush in. the early enemies are weak enough that you can determine your play style and then manage your stats accordingly. one complaint is that while they give you a choice of Trick weapons at the start they don't give you a blunt weapon to try out with...

on a whole, i agree with the acclaim this Action-RPG is receiving and i personally recommend this to PS4 gamer looking to challenge their meticulous and methodical side...

In places it has the best graphics of any game, the sound is fantastic as always, level design is confusing at first as always but once you've completed the game a couple of times you know exactly where you're going and you can just pick and choose your routes with ease.

I'm on my NG+2 at the moment and still going (82 hours of play). The combat is just such a joy that as with Dark Souls 1 it's not about completing the game once and leaving it, you only get to a really capable level after your first play-through.

Multiplayer's excellent, my personal preference is getting to the end of the game (almost, so all the levels are unlocked) then helping other players out with boss battles but you can go for PVP if that's your preference.

Too much to mention really but the idiots on here giving this a 0 are obviously just haters that bought a X1.... What a stupid choice you made, next time pay attention to what's going on in the industry instead of just buying what you think has a big name. Anyone that paid even the slightest bit of attention could see that X1 was trash and Microsoft are the evil empire.

    Poor misguided fools.

As for the people that made the right choice, rejoice: This is the first 5 star title of the new generation. It's about damn time too. This is BY FAR the weakest generation of games in the history of gaming.

And killing stuff never felt so good! The extreme joy of defeating a boss in this game is second to none!
There is of course a big learn by trying here so don't get discouraged if you die 9 times in a row on the same enemy
Weapons are the igh point in this game and i friggen love them, its so damn cool that each weapon has a second form and its definitely something we have not seen in a game before.
Graphics are amazing and the setting is dark and grim like a heavy metal band cover.

Now unfortunately there are some frame rate issues but they are not that big, and thankfully never show up while fighting any enemies. The load time can be a pain as well but as long as you never die you won see them that often hehe. But in no way is as bad as people say. Kids these days are just to impatient.

Overall this game is a must buy for any souls or hardcore player, and i would say also a must for any ps4 owner, The difficulty might discourage some gamers but don't fret fight through it and and im sure you will find a game worth the hours.

I can just describe how I felt over the journey of 9-10 days after purchasing this game.
First I got to say I never really played any game of From, I just had a litte session of Demon Souls but not enough to have a real opinion since that is ages ago also. I am not an excessive gamer playing for hours and hours in one session - I play occasionally when I got the time.

When I started Bloodborne I was hooked - it was just fun to progress through this dark, gloomy and brutal looking environment while learning the game's mechanics the hard way - trail and error. I got the first boss and was eager to proceed and excited what comes next - fine so far. Then I realized I got to grind the games currency by clearing the same streets and hallways again and a again - still fine because it was fun to improve my fighting skills while gathering the points to improve my toon and his stuff.
This system worked until the first boss of the second "chapter" of the game - the Hemwick Witches - I got to quit after two tries because I had personal matters to attend to and then I had an odd feeling or better said - the lack of a feeling. My desire to continue was simply gone, because I realized the next morning I rather wanted to play another game I started before Bloodborne (Witcher 1, since 3 is incoming).

What happened to me all of a sudden? I try to explain what it was.

I realized I was playing a sneaky repetitive kind of game with beautiful optics. So the fever of love was gone and I realized what flaws this game has in my opinion. Which leads to the following pros and cons:

    pros:
    - fresh setting and beautiful design, you can see the love of the devs for optics here.
    - well crafted sound design fitting the scene
    - easy controls although many people give negative feedback here

    cons:
    - failed to keep me hooked, I do not feel the need to go on, maybe just to see how the later level and enemy designs are
    - limited tactics available, when you get it how do fight after some time, it becomes too easy and too repetitive even when trying to overcome hard mobs or bosses 6-7 times.
    - somehow useless itmes, maybe I did it wrong, but I never felt the need to use more than 1/3 of the items
    - NO REAL STORY, I made the mistake of reading a little spoiler. I was interested in the how and why but as you progress you never really get to know what the **** is going on

    conclusion:
A beautiful looking game offering a solid 10-15 hours of enjoyable gameplay until the fire goes out.

I do not feel guilty about spending the full price but I'd recommend to wait for an offsale if you
really want to give it a shot.

    Cheers!

It has one of the worst tutorials (it is not showing you how to play that game, but showing you that you are not able to play this game). The story itself is pretty hidden somewhere deep in item descriptions and most of the time you are just guessing why are you killing everyone. (I really doubt normal players will understand the story without reading theories on the internet) And fighting system feels little bit strange. Especially because how the hitboxes works. There is basically no physical hit detection. Luckily it does not mean you will get hit even when you see enemy miss. But your enemy will miss you many time when he is directly hitting you or stopmping you (specially bosses). This feels very last gen, it is not intuitive (you must learn, than when you are rolling you are safe even if you get direct hit, etc.) and gets some time to get used to.

So why gieve it a 10/10? Simple. Despite all these shortcomings, the game is amazing fun to play. Gameplay is solid. Leveldesign is the best I have ever seen (not just art style, but the layout full of shortcurst and branching paths = nonlinear progress) and it is just delight to explore them. The lenght is higly above todays average. You will spent maybe more that 30 hours of concentrated fun (there are no blank filler parts. every room presents some kind of fun and challenge).

And the difficulty. It is not so bad. As I mentioned the tutorial is bad. So at the beggining you will think "this game is impossible to play". But when you learn it a little bit (dont be afraid of multiplayer!!!), it can be actually become too easy.

Bllodborne is definetlly not a perfect flawless gem. But it is definetly a must buy and will provide you huge amount of entertainment.

Blending eldritch horror, dark fantasy, and gothic themes, Bloodborne's world is rich and steeped in lore, despite some simplification of world factions and a more straightforward plot than its predecessors in the Souls series. Streamlined from its predecessors to deliver fast, offense based gameplay, Bloodborne does away with some of the micromanagement and consequently some of the variety found in Souls titles. Despite these changes, the game retains highly nuanced mechanics that Souls veterans will quickly grasp, though completing the game will not come without effort. Though enemy AI can be exploited, victories in Bloodborne are won through careful navigation and timing. The world of Bloodborne is smaller than that of Dark Souls, and the game quite a bit shorter, but the experience is no less filled with hidden treasures, NPC's to interact with at various junctures, and satisfying boss battles. Though Chalice dungeons can become a drag, even in advanced stages, the groundwork is solid and this optional (unless trophies are concerned) facet of the game provides a decent chunk of filler content. In all, a fantastic permutation of From's proven RPG formula.

Overall, Bloodborne's presentation is fantastic, with great music, carefully detailed environments, character models, and effects. Where Bloodborne is held back is in its technical performance. Its beautiful, hand crafted world may smooth out some dated technical aspects of From's engine, but nothing can iron out the inconsistent technical performance here. Long load times can prove frustrating as levels are re-generated upon death. Fast travel, which can only be achieved via transporting oneself back to the game's hub (a retrograde to the hub system of Demon's Souls), proves cumbersome and annoying, and ultimately a negative change. The framerate, while solid most of the time, can take a hit when multiple enemies are on screen accompanied by various effects. No frame rate issue here is quite on the level of Blighttown in the console version of Dark Souls, but still frustrating in how such problems diminish the player's ability to properly react to his/her (likely dire) situation.

Bloodborne is nevertheless a fantastic action game that is engaging in spite of its sometimes frustrating performance issues. Players will find themselves quickly immersed in a complex world of mystery and brutality, where progress is rewarded not only with new and interesting in-game items, but also a feeling of satisfaction and triumph that is rarely derived from today's increasingly safe roster of big titles. Those looking for a challenging and engaging action RPG should look no further than Bloodborne.

Probably the best PS4 exclusive to come out on the system, and definitely a great stand-alone game from the developers of the Souls games. This would have got a 10 if it wasn't for the extremely long loading screens (approx 45 seconds each time) and for some of the bugs that caused the game to crash at launch. A must buy for any souls fan and for those who are up to a challenge

This is the spiritual successor to the Dark Souls series and an exclusive to the PS4. It's got all the classic Dark Souls stylings and, for newcomers to the Dark Souls series like myself, it was an excellent and fully challenging game. You're going to get alot of difficult monsters and bosses in this game to face and, being paired with a wonderful control system and musical score, really makes this game jump off the screen at times. This could easily pass as a horror game too as there are tons of moments that'll make you recoil or get a jump out of you.
However, the biggest problem with the game is the horrible framerate problems that plague the game. Things pop in out of nowhere alot of times, there were multiple instances of lag in spawning in new enemies for me, and porting in from the main hub area easily took about 1-2 mins everytime I did it, and with how much you die in this game, you'll be seeing that screen alot. Sony has promised a patch to fix these issues but that has not surfaced just yet. Until that patch is sent out, while the game is playable and fun, it won't be able to live up to the expectations it sets. The other issue is the story and the fact that there are very few words spoken in the story explaining what is actually happening. You can piece it together as you go through but it would have been nice to see some explanation of what was going on at some point.
If I could give this game a 9.5 or a 9.8 out of 10 I would. But with it's current issues, I cannot round up the score. Until that framerate issue is settled, I cannot in good judgment give this a 10. Even though it's easily the best PS4 exclusive and will keep you entertained for days on end, I have to give it a 9 with the reservation that I can bump it up to a 10 when the framerate issue is settled.

Bloodborne had a good shot at excelling. It does not. DS 2 is still a better game than this one.
This game is very limiting - only a very narrow set of skills will result in a viable build, where's the magic?, dungeons are 80% repeated areas, etc.
Add in framerate drops at some survival-critical spots, sometimes the crappy camera angle gets you killed, armor that does nearly nothing to keep you alive, snorefest greyscale color pallet, and most annoyingly - the very limited RPG elements almost make this a non-RPG RPG. It will be a travesty if this gets GOTY as some nutjobs are hoping.

I did a 1 hour back-to-back gameplay comparison last night with Neverwinter MMO (also playing this currently):
NW - completed a daily raid, got two drops worth using, unlocked new skills, had fun.
Bloodborne - died 7 times, made very little progress, shook my head and switched back to NW.

If Scalebound is remotely like Bloodborne I'm going to be really pissed!

The interesting concept of this game is the fact that everything has an explanation, singleplayer goes hand-in-hand with multiplayer. From Software are awesome at creating worlds (Miyazaki mostly) and concept and then making a game in which every mechanic and every little detail fits in the world and in the general concept of the game.
Many of us expected Van Helsing meets Dark Souls, nobody expected a love child between Lovecraft (and his Cthulhu Mythos), Inception(ish) and Dark Souls.
The story can be quite cryptic but after some time in Bloodborne most will figure out the story, more or less. The NPCs and their optional quests are easier to find and complete than in the Souls games. The optional bosses provide lore information and items that clarify some of the questions. The story, being presented in the From Software unique way, tends to leave some things to interpretation BUT given the fact that one of the important themes is nightmare-dream(multiple layers dreams) these intentional loose ends tend to become food for thought and lore speculation.

    The Good:
    - awesome presentation, architecture, enemy design
    - awesome changing world
    - awesome animations
    - awesome story
    - fantastic soundtrack!!!
    - precise, dynamic and agressive combat mechanics
    - replay value

    The Bad:
    - some FPS issues
    - some A.I. issues now and then but taking the high difficulty into consideration, sometimes you need the boss to do some dumb things just so you can kill the damn beast (sometimes)
    - long loading times (which did not bother me too much because I did not die too many times, even though I struggled through some areas; if you play the game with patience and do not try to button-mash the whole game then you willl be fine; either way, long loading times are bad)
    - not enough unique weapons (like boss-souls weapons from Souls games)
    - dissapointing Chalice Dungeons
    - anti-coop multiplayer system

Bloodborne mixes things up with the Regain system and an emphasis on more aggressive combat than the Souls titles. This gives Bloodborne its own identity. A dizzyingly brutal ballet of blood, gore and death, which rewards the persistent with an experience which few other titles can match.

The single point has been deducted for terrible load times and a frame-rate which dips on occasion. Both of these issues can be fixed with a patch and don't detract from the fact that this is an excellent title, and the first real reason to purchase a PS4. Essential.

Bloodborne is brilliant. I never played dark souls or demon souls, so this genre was refreshingly new to me. It combines insanely good mechanics with a terrifying environment. This game can be very hard and frustrating, but makes you appreciate progression. 100+ hours can easily be spent here.

Right! I'm a racer, a COD-er, and these type of games are not my cup of tea. Never ever touched Dark Souls games before. So many friends of mine were playing though, and were very enthusiastic. I bought the game with the aim of selling quickly if too difficult or just not fun. I won't be selling, this game is so challenging and full of atmosphere. Yes, it's difficult, very difficult, but the the thrill of playing the game invites you to restart again and again, and yes, I am getting better. The hype is deserved, and I'll get countless hours on enjoyment. Don't be put off if you don't understand a thing in the first 10 minutes, even I managed to figure things out. Expand

I never really liked goth-ish looking games other than Dark souls but this game is incredible. Difficult but rewarding, with many different types of weapons, skills, and abilities. I enjoy the great level design. Some people say that the frame rate was an issue but for me it was exceptional Expand

Visually striking, nerve-shredding and a fascinating streamlining of the Souls formula. Bloodborne is an exclusive jewel in the PS4 crown and you need to own it. [June 2015, p71]
