I barely touched any of the previous games so im going into this story and type of game as a new person in the AC series. Personally for me im having a blast playing Valhalla! I love the time and place this game takes place in, I love the environments, I love the skills and the skill tree setup. The story also has been keeping me entertained, well worth the price for the base game.

I have some concerns with the game personally for me and I feel like it will insult somebody if I mention them on here so ill reserve that for myself. Other than those few concerns the game has crashed on me a few times but just a few days ago they released a big patch so im glad they are still improving on the game and fixing bugs because ive run into a handful of them playing so far.

I was pleasantly surprised by this game, 35+ hours in right now and I haven't even gotten half way done yet. I love these long immersive open world RPG games.

It is visually stunning, combat is really nice and I haven't experienced any concerning bugs. Maybe some fish swimming on land but that was funny. The soundtrack is on point. I really don't have anything bad to say about this game. It can stretch a little if you are a completionist like myself, but nonetheless, a very good game from ubisoft. The ending left a bitter taste in my mouth, but oh well. Expand

I just finished the main story, and I really enjoyed the entire journey so far. The story is really well-done, with great characters and varying objectives. By the time I finished, I truly felt a kinship with these characters, and I've grown to really connect with Eivor. Gameplay is great, with fun raids, stealth missions, and challenging but enjoyable puzzles. There are two reasons I marked it down to a 9 out of 10: there are still many bugs (not game-breaking for me, but mostly annoying), and I didn't like how I basically wore the same outfit and used the same weapon the entire game. Unlike Odyssey where I got to try a bunch of stuff, I just upgraded the same armor and weapons. All in all, I'm a big fan of this game, and can't wait to jump back in when the DLC comes out! Expand

There is a little more weight to the character as well and the horses animation though not as perfect as in Ghosts of tsushima are a big improvement. The AI could feel unresponsive at first but it is actually pretty well adapted to the situations. I would complain about bugs and lack of polish but most (weird transitions from cut scenes to gameplay) is resolved if you dont play the game off of an external hard drive like I did. I wish Ubi would push the tech further to get a mix of euphoria and the animations from a naughty dog game. Hopefully they are pushing in that direction for their true next gen games. As it stands for a cross gen it's pretty awesome. If you're a fan of the series or a fan of big adventure games get it you won't regret it. Expand

Way better than Odyssey. It may have just much bloat but it’s fine tuned and focused a lot more. It doesn’t seem so overwhelming and I like the darker tone. Combat is back to how it was with still trying to make it the new mechanics introduced in the previous two games. Not sure what if I like it 100% but it’s fun and the grit is most welcomed.

I would start with graphics, could be one of the best i have ever seen in video games, Red Dead 2 blew me away and this one managed to do same. Let's be clear, Odyssey story sucked, Valhalla has actually good writing, good voice acting and it's actually interesting. I have heard some complain about combat, i personally like it. As a fan of Vikings and England, the historical setting was perfect for me. England looks very beautiful and is less overwhelming than Odyssey’s Greece. The settlement is also a great new feature and was really fun to upgrade. When you visit larger towns and cities, you can walk around cloaked using social stealth. Walking hooded amongst a couple monks really gave me that original Assassin’s Creed feeling. There are however a couple of bugs in the game. When you start a large raid or battle, the frames drop down a little. There are also some moments where the character seems to get stuck, but none of these bugs where game-breaking or had me reload it. Not enough loot - I 100% disagree. There is plenty of axes, swords, shields, daggers, etc., and I think 5 or 6 separate types of armor to upgrade. It is not overwhelming, but still very customizable. Right now, I am dual wielding a spear and dagger, but you can dual wield two great swords, your more standard sword and shield, the flail is fun to play with, warhammers carry a different style, etc. Trust me, there is plenty of loot.

Combat - The combat in Odyssey and Origins made you a fighting god right from the start. Valhalla makes you earn it. A lot of the negative reviews say the combat is slow and clunky. At first, it kind of is. But you know what, it makes you feel like a viking! Storming villages and swinging a sword wildly seems realistic to me. As you progress, the combat becomes much more in depth and fluid, but the game makes you earn it. Sorry, but you will not be a combat god from the start, which I think is a good thing.

Lack of Stealth - I disagree. I've cleared out enemy encampments blowing my horn and having my whole crew rush in. I have also cleared out encampments without anyone noticing me. It takes patience, but definitely possible and anyone who disagrees probably isn't good enough at it.

Bugs - I am on patch 1.0.2 and the bugs are not nearly as bad as described in the reviews. All my saves have been fine and the game has crashed once in almost 40 hours of gameplay. There are some minor visual bugs I've noticed, but they have not been common at all for me and really haven't taken anything from the game for me.

All in all, this game is amazing. In both Origins and Odyssey, after about 20 hours, I felt like I was doing chores and got bored. I'm almost 40 hours in to this one and can't stop playing or thinking about it when I'm not playing. The map is much less congested, and the markers that are there lead you to meaningful, useful, and usually interesting things. The inventory and quest lists are no longer overwhelming and the way side quests are set-up make the story and play go way more smoothly.

    Best Assassin's game I've played.

Its not like previous ac games where youre grinding for hours with hardly any benefit. In this game every side activity is mercifully short and luckily interesting enough for me to check out most of the side content, not to mention extremely rewarding. The downsides are how easy the game is. Ive run into very little difficulty despite playing with both stealth and combat on hard difficulty. The challenge mostly comes from its side content usually requiring you to use a certain degree of intuition and exploration to find out where a piece of treasure is, or what an npc wants you to do. If you like a simple yet intriguing and surprisingly mature story, RPG mechanics such as changing your appearance with different hair/beard styles, tattoos, and outfits as well as different lines of dialogue, good if not great characters and voice acting, but dont mind the ridiculously easy combat, (seriously, dont worry about level gating) then youll most likely enjoy this game like i have.

Now, the stealth actually is rather well done in my opinion. It makes you feel like a badass without making you feel like a god. I assassinated 4 people in a row using a combination of stealth and combat. I took two people out with the hidden blade, then hurrled an axe 70 feet to hit another enemy directly in the back of the head then scooped a sword from one of my previously assassinated victims off the ground and flung it at a forth enemy, killing him outright. Now if that doesnt make you feel like a badass, i dont know what will. However, the stealth is hampered by having no consequences when you get caught because, as i mentioned already, the combat is already super easy.

Oh, i almost forgot. There are tons of bugs. Ive had quite a few crashes, but i was playing on my base ps4, so if youve got a ps5 or ps4 pro, i doubt youd have as many problems as me. But the fact that i praise this game so much despite all that should speak to how much i truly like this game.

The combat is great they perfectly capture the Vikings fighting style and gore animation, the main criticism they answered from the pervious game is the quest design they improved a lot of them, now you can go toward your main story our pursue side mission and gears.

You don't have to complete the unnecessary side quests to level up the player to take on the main story missions.

The story is not assassins focused but they are selling you the idea of what is to Viking raider in the 9th century England and I like that part.

Now they should finish the series with last trilogy of games and explore the assassin's creed in other medium of entertainment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was never really "that into" the assassin's creed games, until I saw the trailer for odyssey, the idea of building a spartan warrior was awesome to me, but alas this is about AC VALHALL!!! So I loved odyssey, and then a few months after I bought and played it I saw the early trailers for AC Valhalla, and I was hooked before it even had a release date!! I pre-ordered it - which I don't do that often mind you. I am super glad I picked up a copy of Valhalla. The story is amazing, and the graphics are even better. I love how you can go on raids, and have a settlement you can build, and a longship to customize. They finally outdid themselves over there at Ubisoft, that is for sure. I enjoyed the Asgard arc as well, getting to see (Ubisoft's version of) Asgard and take part in some of their most well known tales was A GREAT IDEA!! I can't wait to get Mjolnir and Odin's spear Gungnir!! Trust me Broder you will love this game! Expand

Ubisoft made a good balance between real history and mythology, you'll feel naturaly inserted into a Nordic culture.

The game has bugs and some problems, but in my gameplay I didn't had any major problem, keep in mind that you can have it.

It's the best assassin's creed history since Ezio, if you can call this game an assassin's creed game, and the best gameplay so far.

Tip for anybody who is going to play or still playing like me: (80 hours in, little over halfway done) play it slow. Meaning literally walk when near wealth, mysteries, when raiding and assaulting fortresses, when walking around towns and hamlets etc, taking your horse instead of fast traveling to destinations (unless quickly going to kill world boss in region you were in 20 hours ago) and just looking around villages and camps carefully. Don't play the game to finish. You miss beautiful aspects of the game. For example: fishing, - going to every body of water in a region and discovering + catching big new fish that make you feel cool - the extra finishers, - sorry to burst the triggered guys bubbles, but there are more finishers than just a sword through a Saxon and cutting arms off from behind (ie. each weapon + some combos has 2 more finishers that happen when you 1. use backstab perk from skill tree when enemy is one shot and 2. when you kill enemy from the front when they are one shot and staggered (not stunned) ) - riding all around some destinations, - (so far) East Anglia, Oxenefordschire and Cent is so dope just layout wise (they did coastline regions really well [talking about East Anglia and Cent] / maybe personal preference / my vibe) - confession boxes after killing order members, - makes them way more 3D and genuinely love seeing personalities matched with character models - burning straw houses with my torch every time around the open world - love the smoke effect you see from a far, the sort of red sky effect that happens when you burn enough houses close to each other and I just love being a manic viking - and talking with important characters after their "arc" - ie. I got an invitation to go to an ealdormans anointment in a region I was in previously with no quest being popped up after reading the invitation, so me being curious I wanted to see if the "world event" would actually occur and sure enough when I went to the last place I saw this important character, a cutscene ensued where he was of course annointed and a small dialog bubble with him was present. Small details like these make me love the game and make me feel like I actually changed something in the open world - fulfilling payoff. Yes you may complain that its not really "Assassin's Creed" but they brought back small things that may not be major to the story but help capture the essence (ie. hidden blade, social stealth and city arcs like Lunden, Jorvik and Winchester or Winchestre, I forgot ) so I can see Ubisoft still somewhat cares and I appreciate that. Some small gripes of the game: one of the arcs - Asgard - is relatively boring due to its lack of interesting narrative and overall region layout (still pretty though), I experience crashes on my base PS4 which can be justified because its a 7 year old console (mine is literally the first model) and I leave the console on rest mode which continues to run the game while I'm away just for convenience but at the end of the day the crashes are so minor because even though the game takes 2-3 minutes to launch back up, I only maybe lose 1 minute of progression because of the constant auto saves which I appreciate immensely. The narrative is an acquired taste. I personally like all but one arc in terms of narration (Asgard) but I can see why some people think the narrative is a little boring because of some pointless main story quests but I personally still get some fun out of them. Finally, I personally disliked the first arc of the game in Norway just plainly because I hate "tutorial regions" and its way to easy but again personal preference and I understand why it's their like in every mainstream game because not everybody is a sweaty narc like me (case in point: my dad - he's so bad but I love him). Some more small tips: play normal first - get the feel of the game - but aim to play very hard (challenge is fun, just trust). Stealth difficulty is fine at normal - I don't have it any higher because npcs still notice you relatively quickly and I have more of a warrior build for style in the battlefield. Recommend playing two handed weapons alone (not with shield or other weapon) - great sword and dane axe alone have brutal finishers. Other points I missed: 1. settlement is awesome - love building an entire town as I become more well known in the game + reminds me of AC3 (great game). 2. You'll love male or female Eivor - can be boring in beginning, but becomes such a badass as story progresses. Conclusion: Buy this game, play it slowly and you'll find enjoyment. Don't play just to check it off of "games I completed". What's the point of buying a $60 game to be the first to complete it? The only people who can justify being the first to finish is of course game devs and reviewers + Youtubers who want to be the first to post a specific part of story like the ending for maximum view potential. If you aren't any of those people who have a quota to fill, play slow. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Piękny świat, a przede wszystkim ogromny. Expand

Solid 8, maybe even 8.5! Best game in the franchise in a long time. Played through the whole game and of course there are side missions that feel a bit boring, but over all the story is engaging and even most side quests are pretty fun. Graphics and gameplay delivers well on a 4k HDR PS4 pro.

I never post any kind of review for a game until I’ve put in at least 20 hours playing the game or have beaten the game (if it takes less than 20 hours to beat). Now having played the game for about 22 hours I can confidently say this is my favorite Assassins creed game they’ve ever made. I’ll list the positives and negatives from here...
+ They’ve finally improved the graphics over Odyssey and Origins which basically just felt like re-skins of each other. + Animations are vastly improved over the last two games, and that goes for everything from execution sequences, to climbing to riding your horse, everything looks and feels much better and more lifelike. + Like the other Assassins’s creed games, they is tons to do, you’ll easily be able to put in over 100 hours and still have more to do. +Story in this one is actually decent, I care somewhat for the characters in Valhalla which I couldn’t say for the last games. +Sound design is equal to the last games, nothing wrong with it. + I got the game the day it launched and I have only run into maybe a couple bugs. One bug wasn’t allowing a quest to progress, but I just reloaded the game and it worked fine after that. Other bugs have been minimal and nothing game breaking. +Combat and abilities are basically the same as the last two games which I really liked so this is a plus for me, if you didn’t like the combat in the last games then you won’t like it in Valhalla either. + The map is really well made with countless places to loot and explore just like the last games, but Valhalla has more interesting and challenging puzzles in my opinion. The size of the world also seems to be about as big as the last two games as well. - The story is improved but still pretty underwhelming, so it’s a positive and a negative. I don’t really have any other negatives for the game so far after 22 hours, if I had to pick more negatives I would say combat is too similar to the last games and not much was really added or changed, I actually can’t think of anything that was added or changed. The game also has a very similar system to the cultist system they had in Odyssey, actually, it’s exactly the same with a different name. 8/10 from me, much of the same formula from the last games but much more polished, if you’ve liked the last Assassin’s Creed games, you’ll like this one.

Assassins Creed is my favrotie series of all time, so im harder on this series than I am with any other game.. and while Valhalla is a great game and my score will reflect that, as an assassins creed game, assassins creed Valhalla isa complete disappointment.
Here you play as avore, becauseubisoft cares more about its precious sales you chose either man version or female version because ubisoft is afraid to commit and want to make everyone happy.. you set off on a Viking adventure to basically take over England during the dark ages.. and sadly this is more of a Viking game with assassins creed mechanics rather than an assassins creed game where you play as a Viking, the lore of the Templars and the assassins is there.. infct the whole uncovering the order side thing odyssey had going on is valhallas main focus, and I love that… however the game built around it is the most hallow money grab of a game in probably the entire assassins creed series… they sold you on Vikings, rob and pillage, this is fun about 0 times, its never fun going into an area for a raid, opening chests and collecting all of the loot, its repetive and bland, and that can be said for the entire game… im one to uncover every inch of an assassins creed game, read very document, platinum it.. but assassins creed Valhalla is so hollow that I found myself skipping through a lot of its dialog as the story is broken up into individual kingdoms you go out and help… this is less of an assassins creed game, you know.. a game where you relive memories of someone that was supposed to have actually existed to learn more about the orer and the places of the pieces of edden, and just a boring Viking game where you go from kingdom to kingdom taking care of that kingdoms individual problems, it’s a 70 hour long game of individual mini stories that by themselves could be okay experiences, but in an assassins creed game they feel like a waste of time not adding anything to the overall world of assassins creed, no one will remember Valhalla as a step forward for the series, infact in a lot fof places Valhalla steps back, for example its loot, there is next to none, yet you still collect it from time to time, its such an awkward system that you forget there are other weapons and armorus you can pick up.. youll mpost likely stick to the first or second piece of gear you find in the game and stick to that all the way through, especially thanks to the grind heavy upgrading system here that require a ridiculous amount of recourses to upgrade weapons… where Valhalla steps forward though is you making choices that actually matter, your choices have consequences, you have different paths with different characters you can go down that don’t feel empty like odyssey did.. but back to the intial point, this is great if assassins creed were an rpg seres set in different time periods… but its not, its meant to be an experience of a story already told, not an unwritten story of your grandpa and you get to chose if he banged other Vikings or not… tell me if avor was gay or not, don’t let me chose, again.. commit to a character, tell me their story… this is not a solution to the story telling critques players have.. this is assassins creed, not dragon age.. tell me the story as it happened… but this is thebiggest assins creed game to date, though bigger isn’t always better, another first, this s the first time I gave up on collecting all the things in an assassins creed game, for one,, again the world felt boring pointless and hallow, even the side quests that were supposed to be the talk of the town, except for the mini game orlog, it had its hooks in me like gwent, and I love hunting down the zealots of the land, bringing my back to the original assassins creed.. but the colelctables here, the game just makes you work too hard to get, one too many are locked behind story progress – why even put it on the map then… and evry other one ios locked behing an environment puzzle.. I don’t mind this eveyr once in a while , but map cleaning in assassins creed is a form of meditation, if I have to figure out how to get to literally every chest in the world, it isn’t meditation anymore, it’s a puzzle game outside of the story, no thanks. Also traversal here is probably the worst in the series too, its wakward, plenty pof annoying deaths at the hands of climbing, The biggest disappointment overall is this games story, the worst ending in history if you can even call it an ending and the outside of the animus world features the least likably protagonist of all time, smoking doesn’t make you look like a badass, it makes you look inconsiderate of the people around you, but again, assassins creed Valhalla is a great game, the combat is fun, you can go down different paths to play the way you prefer, brute, ranged, stealth, or a mix of all 3…

I normally start in stealth mode until they see me but you can try any tactic you feel to. Also, you can try different kind of weapons and develop abilities. The game is long (it is said that the main story lasts about 60 hours) but so far I didn't get bored of the gameplay but I do think this kind of games should last about 20-30 hours. About the story, it progress slowly. The viking atmosphere it is well done but it won't be as impressive as the buildings in Odyssey or Origins. A very good thing compared with the other two last games is that you don't need to do sidequests to level up your character so that you can easily advance in the game. About the main character I chose the default option which it will be a female character for most of the game but I really liked her voice. It matches really well with the character. My main complaints would be the slow progress of the story (although it doesn't feel tedious), also it should have been more polish. So far I think this game would deserve a 7'5 or an 8. Not a bad game but it could have been better. Also, I think that they should left behind all the Assassin's Creed brand and start a new game from zero or make individual games. I had the same feeling with Origins and Odyssey. If you ask me, Ghost of Tsushima is better than this game but again, this is not a bad a game. Expand

    Fazit : 8/10

Basically, it's a good Assassins Creed RPG, though very light on the Assassin part. Not Ezio saga good, but so far it has given me a better experience than Odyssey overall. Particularly in the worldbuilding, the 'World Events' Read: Quests, but they're just interactions with various odd locals, ranging from helping someone deliver a crate of apples, to stealing clothes at a nudist party. They're misc. quests, but they're handled very well here.

Meanwhile the story also offers a different experience from previous games; Where before, you're either the main Assassin, in this one, you're their ally. Offering them shelter, helping them rebuild, but (at least for the time being) solidly from the outside looking in. Which feels fresh.

Aside from the small bugs we all know will probably stay, what really bothers me in this iteration is the sound levels. Sound effects and the Protagonists' voice seem to be on a very different setting from other characters voices, forcing you in some situations to either have a hard time hearing the NPC's, or get deafened by your own character.

Combat also feels a bit slower, and difficulty settings in combat once again only serve to make your enemies damage spunges while turning you into a wet blanket, but even so it feels right to play it at the highest difficulty. Enemies take several hits to take down, and you can similarly take about as many hits as the average mook/low-class enemy from enemies at your level. I imagine lower difficulties would be shockingly easy though, and just adjusting damage and health numbers remains a sloppy way to balance in my opinion.

What also grinds my gear is that platforming and the like seems to have been reduced to a matter of two buttons; Hold A (xbox) to free run, press B to drop. I miss the days of AC: Unity, where you actually had significant freedom of movement, and where parkour took skill to truly master.

In summation: The world itself and the story so far, have been interesting, fresh iterations on the standard Assassins Creed formula. Modern day story also seems quite interesting for what little there has been so far. (~10 hours of play, 1 Modern Day part.) Two points taken away due to:
    1) Bugs
    2) Sound balancing
    3) The horrifically oversimplified movement.

I’m saddened to write this review, because I love assassin’s creed. But this game had so much potential and fails to capture said potential. It is clearly unfinished. You could still kill off enemies that were too high for you. This game on hard mode or beyond, does not reward skill. But instead, punishes you for trying to take on much harder enemies. Some bosses seem to almost teleport to you to use unblockable attacks. This game needed much more polish. Even now months later. It still lacks a lot of polish. Had it gotten more love and attention. This game could have easily been a 9 to 10 rating. Expand

I really miss the older AC games like Syndicate and Black Flag. The parkour seemed more engaging, combat felt more deliberate, and the side activities were diverse and fun. Now the game is your typical ac game in terms of elements. Go synchronize positions, raid camps, kill enemy patrols etc. But the important thing is pros and cons:

    Pros:
    -Good combat
-Instead of just getting abilities as you rank up, you get base skills and some abilities
    -Weapon variety is pretty good
    -Graphics are nice
    -Open world is good
-Gears are found less, but are more unique
    -Boss variety is pretty good
    -Multiple Storylines
-A fresh game after a lot of ac games with the same formula
-I havent experienced a lot of frame drops.
    -Stun Finishers are very satisfying
-Upgrading your settlement as you progress is very fun
-A lot of choices that actually matter
-A lot of minigames, puzzles in the open world

    Cons:
-Some parts of the game are very buggy
-Main Story is repetitive (Eg. In the whole main story all you do is go to a place, speak with the person in charge, solve their problems, raid a big castle in the end) It has so less unique parts compared to other ac games.
    -Story is not fun
-Sometimes the characters facial animations arent really that good (except the main characters)
-The story is so long that it gets boring after some time. Remember how you got pretty bored in odyssey because the game was too long? This is much longer than that.

Edited: Currently much better than console Cyberpunk 2077.

So far I've found the game to be quite fun, the story has been nothing short of awesome. The world is beautiful and vast. The combat is a little boring but with the stealth mechanics and raiding it's totally tolerable and hasn't got boring so far. Definitely worth the money if you're in the mood for a bit of escapism lol

This entry in the Assassin's Creed Series is arguably much better than Odyssey in terms of story, progression, and voice acting.

well i've played AC Valhalla for almost 10hrs now , and i can certainly tell that valhalla is the best AC game since AC Brotherhood in my opinion, and yes there is some technical issues like bugs and glitches, but i think the story and gameplay covered that issues so well. and those problems can be solve with few updates. but after all Valhalla is what AC fans deserve after all these years.

So far so solid, Assassins Creed Valhalla is a solid rendition of AC. The setting is beautiful, seeing Norway at night is stunning. Graphics are fantastic. I used to hate the AC series for how linear and boxed in it used to feel. This all changed for me with Origins. I love the environment, the fighting, the use of colour palette, the list goes on.

I have given this an 8 as there are a couple of areas that lack polish. The animation bugs are fairly inexcusable from a major studio and the HDR implementation leaves a little to be desired compared to Origins and Odyssey.

I would highly recommend this game if you enjoyed Origins and Odyssey, like me. If, however, you did not enjoy those titles, I would give this one a skip.

Now for the bad, I don't remember ever playing a game as glitchy as this. I'm writing this right after release date, so they will likely put things into place with a few patches, but as of right now it really feels like the most unpolished product I ever purchased on PSN. I'm not the guy who cares for a few occasional glitches when they don't affect your progress, but this game is currently much worse than that. The game already crashed twice, I did not complete a treasure hunt as I couldn't interact with the treasure once I found it, and I had to load a previous save a few times due to bugs that would prevent me from completing a quest or get me stuck into places. It's unfortunate cause it really makes it look like the game was made in a rush and with no regard for quality and costumer satisfaction. They could have delayed the release date if they cared to release a finished product.

There are far fewer cookie-cutter outposts than in previous AC’s, and most sidequests now offer an interesting story, sometimes even with a less-than-obvious solution. While some anti-grind measures have backfired, Ubisoft is on the right track. [Issue#250, page 56]

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a wonderful addition to the AC franchise. It manages to avoid the tropes that became overplayed and focuses on a small well structured story. The fighting mechanics are enjoyable and offer many choices to fit different playing styles. There are a significant amount of bugs and the AI is underwhelming at times. But it's still another step in the right direction for Ubisoft.
