Such a bad game...Words cannot describe it. How people could actually be blinded so much by infinity ward's marketing that they would actually buy this trash game.. Honestly, I'd even consider Little Big Planet over this game. That would be a better use of the $60... No improvements from a game that was already bad enough.

This series makes millions of dollars and each game they put less and less effort into it. I truly don't understand how they can't correct the mistakes made in previous games, I don't care about the graphics and I don't care about making leaps and bounds changes to the game itself... just fix the glitches and mistakes from previous games and most people will be happy.

The problems is they don't fix anything... most times they make it worse. How can a simple thing like leaderboards not work? they are in every game and they have had years to figure this out. Come on Activision.... seriously. STEP UP

In conclusion this game has somehow again gotten worse.

Very disappointing to dedicated fans, it is modern warfare 2 with more lag and still little offline support such as bots in black ops. It is also very frustrating that the Devs are always making empty promises. (Second chance, Bots, etc) The game will likely only appeal to first time players of the CoD series.

However, the more you play this game, the more you realize how good Black Ops really was. Lowdown: Survival mode was fun with friends, but was limited by two players and was extremely laggy the times I tried it online. The mics sound quality sucks because of MW3, and constantly gets cut off. Theater was copy and paste from BO and had one control set-up(really, IW?). Hit detection allows you to get one shot kills one game and makes you use your entire clip to injure someone the next.(Not to mention throwing knives!) Elite makes you quit MW3 and start up a seperate program. Switching lobbies is slow and not smooth, especially for Theater mode. Spawn killing is horrible, as is knifing, which is doubly worse from BO. Maps are pretty small, and have a bunch of random crap on them so when you are rushing through the field you get shot at by a bunch of people hiding around that crap. You can't join other people's parties without an invite, and matchmaking just plain makes IW look bad against Treyarch. The only thing that kept me playing it was that I wanted to see if I could beat my friends to 10th prestige. Also, there are no Combat records like in BO, unless you get elite, and even then you can't compare it with your friends. However, I do have to admit that the Campaign was a blast to play. So for all you out there who are on the fence, I wouldn't say "goodbye Black Ops" just yet. Expand

The single player campaign was pretty bad, while the online multiplayer was a mess. The storyline was (in my opinion) filled with boring characters, and average set pieces (the Eiffel Tower faling down was good, i'll admit, but there were just too many explosions throughout the whole campaign) and dull, grey environments (I know it's a war game, but even the cities in which the story takes place in aren't grey and dull). It was just a forgettable campaign. The multiplayer was the worst experience I had with the game, since most of the games I had joined were either extremely laggy, filled with screaming little kids, or the game not letting me in the match at all. The maps were also really forgettable. Seeing that i'm not a big fan of recent FPS', this review might seem a bit biased. (Hint: think about sailing on the river of a major city, with lots of activity and effects around you it looks grand!). I think the story is more sober. It continues on MW2, but the motivations are more exposed to the player. For example, there are high-importance hostages involved and the player is closer to the centre of the story. The multiplayer has at least one new game mode that makes it more interesting than MW2. 'Kill Confirmed' is a team deathmatch where kills only count if someone gets to the killed enemy and collects a 'proof' that the kill happened. This introduces an element of strategy and intelligence, because the bodies could be protected by enemies, and there's a payoff if you get hit right after you collected a proof or maybe two. You can also cancel enemy kills by reaching team member bodies. I thought this game was a cool improvement on MW2, but only as long as you're looking for more of the same, and EXACTLY that. Expand

This game is just unplayable. It's basically a DLC for MW2 that costs $60. The maps, guns, killstreaks are all just terrible, everyone camps online just to get killstreaks. IW employees, if you are still trying to boost your score for this game, on metacritic (very sad btw) please merge with Treyarch and learn how to make a REAL multiplayer game. It's sad that a company that copied your idea, made it better than the creators itself. For anyone thinking about buying this game, DON'T. Save your money for a better game like Battlefield 3. Everyone I've talked to said it was way better than MW3. Also it's more of a complete game rather than a rip off of MW2. If you want to play a COD games, stick with Treyarchs COD games. This game has way too many problems with it. First the spawning is outrageous. The spawn in this game goes by Revenge Spawning. Probably to stop camping, but it rather gives free deaths and free kills for your opponent. After you kill someone, don't be surprised that you meet the same person 2 seconds later. Online is way too laggy. Every patch they release makes the lag even worst. Their are also bad clipping issues. You get stuck onto items from the map like railings, boxes and rocks. This game is a money grabber. IW does not care about their fans. They have really lost their touch. All the good employees left. Thanks IW for making a really **** game. This game looks like you spent 2 minutes on it. That 2 minutes consists of copying MW2 and putting a new picture on it. There's a reason why the user score is the worst out of all COD games (check it out if you don't believe me). Anyone who thinks this game is a 5 and above, clearly has not even played the other COD games (which you should to understand). I don't know how you take a million steps back from MW1. IW you guys suck, and you need to know it. PLEASE DON'T MAKE ANOTHER COD GAME AGAIN, LEAVE IT TO TREYARCH. Expand

It went beyond my expectations, but not nearly as close as any other Call of Duty game did. The multiplayer of the game is a different story. I generally hated the multiplayer which is why I did not get far in the online ranks of the game. This here was the turning point to my thoughts about Modern Warfare 3. To me, there were simply too many people that took the game more serious than it needed to be, especially for a war game. If they were playing Battlefield 3, I could see why they would be taking it seriously, it has much more fast paced action to it, a breath taking view of modern and urban war, and the detail to the game is tremendous. Especially the jets they put in it, but I am not here to review Battlefield 3, and this is not a comparison and contrast essay. I am here to review a game that did not amuse me in the multiplayer field as much as any other Call of Duty game did. I don't recommend the game that much to people who can't stand others who whine entirely like the game is real, and start using foul language, especially kids that should not be cussing at their age. - Collin

Coming from Modern Warfare 2 in 2009, i bought this game on release in 2011 which high expectations to finish the epic campaign and play online again. What i got was something less, but still good.

The story of Modern Warfare 2 ends with Soap killing General Shephard, but getting mortally wounded in the process. Modern Warfare 3 opens with you playing as Yuri, the most contrived protagonist i've played in many games, protecting Price and Soap somewhere from Makarov's goons. The way this mission is written feels incredibly ridiculous, but is just a prelude of what is still to come.

The campaign doubles down on over the top set pieces, visiting exotic locations and introducing last minute conveniences to the story. Seriously, why didn't they hire the writer of Modern Warfare 2? It seems as if the writer of this story took all the pieces from the first two games, jammed them in and decided to make them all meaningless in the large picture. World War 3 is a nonsensical joke, as Russia decides to invade Europe... because the president was kidnapped by terrorist? Chemical attacks against large cities, killing thousands of innocents?? That doesn't make any sense!

You also play as a Delta Team with characters that have no distinct personality other than: 'Russia is bad, America is good.' Their deaths felt pointless, and i was rather laughing as the game tried to make this scene epic. Nice try, but you failed.

To summarize the story: I was disappointed by the weak, predictable ending, last minute characters and overblown scenes. I would give the campaign a 6/10, it's average.

However, Modern Warfare 3 shines brighter in its multiplayer and survival mode! Multiplayer is a step up from Modern Warfare 2, offering a more balanced PvP mode with fun weapons (trying out different weapons doesn't feel like a punishment) and a weapon leveling system. Community modes like Infected and Drop Zone were my favorite, offering a competitive mode without kill streaks and fun objectives.

The survival mode Is my cup of tea, testing me harshly to find the best tactics to survive as long as possible while scoring points and playing with friends. Although i had to play the most of it with random people, i had a lot of fun with this mode. Beware of the epic juggernauts!

Even though the campaign was a let down for me, i did end up enjoying the multiplayer and survival mode a lot. All together, i consider MW3 a good game, worthy of a 7/10.

Not a bad CoD title but not the best by far. It's not as impactful as the previous Modern Warfare games but the single-player wasn't that bad. the multiplayer experience was decent but there were better multiplayer games at the time.

Anyway, not an essential CoD title but it's a decent experience.

Game's phenomenal. The only reason it has such a low rating is because people are just comparing it to its predecessors instead of just looking at the game itself.
The campaign was incredible fun. Many differently styled missions that all end up in a pretty cool ending.
Co-op is a lot of fun with friends.
Multiplayer is the best I've played so far.

Then Battlefield Bad Company 2 came out & I never looked back or forward to Black Ops. MW3 showed me that like some of the comments here, They don't have any more fresh ideas, they never had the backbone to change anything or to shy away from 10 to 16 year olds that would beg their parents to purchase the game for them. Online is the same, with little change but a few more flashing words of BONUS. Guns sound lovely but don't pack the punch needed to make me feel I'm in the battle. Same old run and gun attitude, no squad feel at all. Same Block style atmosphere maps, WALLS, STAIRS, WINDOWS oh and plants and burnt out cars. Playing the game has just set it that I will never buy any of the CoD series again. I was so hoping that MW3 was going to change this for me but it hasn't. Thank you CoD4 for setting a bench mark for FPS and thank you Battlefield for having the guts to implement change. I give fealty to EA, DICE and the FROSTBITE 2 Engine. Well Played. Expand

It's very sad, that people give a developer credit for lazy work. Half of the sounds, equipment, perks, guns, and only one new attachment are in the game. 80% of the killstreaks are the same. And you always the get the felling "I have done this before". Survival is sorry attempted at zombies and fails flat. The same COD formula is use.

that the same I think, is a MW 2.5

I would not be surprised if the proceeds for this game are going to the legal team that is being built to attack the creators of the Call of duty franchise Jason West and Vincent Zampella. I am sure that Robert Kotick is rolling in my money right now laughing to himself. But now on to the game am I supposed to be to amazed by. There is an argument in the gaming world if Battlefeild or Modern Warfare 3 will beat out the other in the long run. From what I have played of both of them; I would like it if a third party came along and destroyed them both. What ever that means I don't know. Graphics: I can't complain. Some very stunning moments, but I did get some strange texture pops.
Design: The reason I am giving this game a 4 is because at least there are somethings that do work. The twitch gameplay is what we've all come to expect from this developing company. Level Design: Signle player linear and boring. This is ridiculous, I just feel like I am being led by the hand and shown all the same enemy over an over. Multiplayer level Design: Are you kidding me. The release maps are all basic grid based square maps with some objects to provide minimal cover. There is something about all the maps that feel like claustrophobic hallways. Even the "open air" sniping maps seem small and cramped. Why can you not jump up on boxes that are knee height, but dumpster can be mounted easily?
Controls: Nothing to complain about here. Sound: Nothing to complain about here.

Conclusion: Next time when the hype is such that a company will spend good money two months before to promote the next "big" game. I will think twice. I think that consumers were thinking that this game was going to be some "new" an "amazing" experience that would keep there hopes up about the business. Unfortunately this game does not seem "new" the aspect of "amazing" seems to be some where in the past successes of this pony. Nostalgia is a good selling point.

But yet all anyone does in this game is camp.... pity. but anyways the campaign that ended the modern warfare series was actually quite enjoyable but yet short. Now for the bad, still listening fanboys? COD has tried to use the same system over and over again but with more upgrades from the standard COD 4 game (the best cod ever) and its really starting to show. Its a shame they made a couple billion dollars with essentially an expansion pack. All this game feels like is modern warfare 2 with new maps, a few new weapons and features. The online community makes the online experience one of the most frustrating in gaming along with demon souls and ninja gaiden (games that are so hard its pointless for people who haven't played them). COD has turned into the mainstream game for all the kids out there. Its a lot like NIKE anymore, people buy it because its NIKE, the name of the brand means more than the quality of it. and while there are better FPS games out there COD will still be the best seller because the fan base is brand committed. I was always more a Tomb Raider kind of guy, till a buddy got me hooked on shooting zombies in COD world at war, then later we both got Black Ops as well and I got addicted to the multi-player. Let's just say it left me spoiled for what followed. I shouldn't be suprised I guess, since I did play mw2 a bit and didn't really enjoy it. Black Ops was a step forward I thought, something different. A lot more little details which make it fun. The graphics, bright and rich colours, the sounds like hit markers I especially like, having COD points to buy upgrades rather than MW3 having to use a crap gun for what seems like eternity before unlocking an upgrade or attatchment and by then You've unlocked a slightly better gun anyway. It's frustrating! It is much more fun for me the gamer, when I can choose what to play with! The guns don't seem to improve much either, in MW3 . I was frustrated to spend so much time unlocking everything to find the first gun was just as good as the last. No reward for the effort it seems. All In all I agree with everyone else, MW3 is just an add on to MW2 and seems like a step back. I found it dull to play, dreary to look at, and more like work than a game. I dragged myself to level 80 to feel like I got some money's worth, and havn't touched it since. I just play Black Ops now. I'm hoping the next game will carry on where Black Ops left off, or at least give us some fun improvements like customizable characters or choice of pre- set character or a lazer beam attachment,..anything! Absolutely terrible. It's just a moneymaking attempt, churning out the same game every year. Not having ranked dedicated servers is absurd; you're forced into more laggy p2p play where the host is favoured

Oh and its so rehashed, there's actually an article proving the same building model from the now 4 year old COD4 where used in this game, despite it being one of the best selling if not the best selling franchise of all time, they are still so cheap.

A pathetic attempt to con gamers into paying money for the same old hallow schlock. A soulless, artless, interactive cut scene celebrating jock bravado not worthy of release. I hate this game, and I sure as hell hate the people who play it incessantly. COD fans make the world a worse place to live in.

Its a 60 dollar map pack. The graphics are simply poor compared to what games are looking like now a days. The game lay is largely the same. An activision refuses to do anything about the unsportsmanlike conduct in the multiplayer

    MW2 - episode II.
4 hour singleplayer campaign. Bland, flavorless multiplayer maps. You already played this game two years ago. This was a blatant attempt to produce as little new content as possible and still pass it off as a new game. True colors, Activision.

This game is a copy and paste of MW2 stop supporting these people. Lets force these developers to be creative! Gameplay seems dated but still sticks to its formula. Graphics are defiantly dated compared to other games that recently were released. 3rd person team tactical is missing. This feature brought something new to the table. Unfortunately this game has become a cash cow

MW2 was the first multiplayer shooter I had ever played. I enjoyed it with my friends - it was a frantic good time for n00bs like us. Then I bought BLOPS and was fairly disappointed. I purchased BF3 and have enjoyed it immensely, but decided to get MW3 since my friends plan on getting it again.

Spent a couple hours with it last night. I was skeptical of the outrage that people showed over this so-called "$60 expansion" pack, but I'm starting to think they're spot on. The maps contain your standard third-world village, snow facility, construction site... really just re-hashes of the previous game's maps. The engine is more dated and the graphics are worse than the reviews let on. I was quite surprised, but it does not look like a game that was released in 2011. It's a shame that this will probably be the all-time best-selling game in a few months, because it certainly does not deserve that honor, but will be fun if you're looking for an arcade-style shooter rather than a simulator.

I also never noticed the kids/swearing/slurs/degenerates quite like I did last night. Compared to the other games out there, its quite jarring and getting quite old. Or perhaps I'm just getting old.

If you must have CoD, then this is a no-brainer, but if you're on the fence, you might as well stick with MW2 and keep prestiging (it's essentially the same thing) or move to BF3, like I did. It's really hard to recommend this at a $60, $50 or even $40 price tag.

Firstly I have spent quite a few hours really giving this game a go and I have concluded that I don't really like it. There are a number of issues with it so far, although I am sure many of them may be patched soon. Firstly the spawning is atrocious. You literally get killed and spawn right on the enemies shoulders, meaning you get killed over and over at your spawn. If that doesnt happen you spawn near the battle or right where you were just killed. Yes this happened in Black ops and people complained about the spawn too, but honestly it was so much better than this. At least in Black ops you spawned on one side of the map seperating both teams for a little bit before both teams went back to the battle zones to recommence the battle. Not only this but when using the Microphones to speak the quality is terrible, it was always perfect on Black ops and has always been terrible on both MW2 and now on MW3. It is also taking ages to find games, making me wait 20 minutes to join one, although again this happened with Black ops. The problem with this series is that the gameplay is to fast paced, the enemies are hard to identify, with enemy players disappearing and then reappearing out of nowhere to literally blow you away. Often an enemy magically appears right behind you after getting a few kills. The only way I have gotten my killstreaks so far is by camping a little bit and shooting from range. The maps are clunky and buildings are in odd positions, the maps don't flow properly at all. What happened to COD 4 and Black ops simplicity. They were so easy to store in your memory, for everyone, making gameplay fun. I see a lot of people and hear a lot of people complaining about the above on their mics mid game, so it isnt just me thinking that. Black ops seemed to cater for a broader audience, people who were not good at the game and people who were brilliant. Many of the best scoring MW3 players seem to be taking advantage of glitches within the game to get ahead of everyone else. Black ops is much more fun in that when you are not doing well you can sit back and try sniping for example, as the maps allowed this. It to me required skill to kill opponents where as this game is so fast its a case of luck. I was getting someawesome scores during one match with 40 kills plus on domination, but then followed this up with 30 deaths. It is so inconsistent and unbalanced. I do find the game fun though and recommend it to all COD fans as a temporary title to keep you going until major improvements are made. But don't expect this title to last long. Look at the vast improvement from WAW and Black ops and from COD 4 and MW2. We need new killstreak rewards, new maps, new locations, new guns, new gun sounds, new characters to control. Black ops was a great game because it was set in a different era, utilising different methods of warfare. I believe the Modern warfare franchise needs to end here and Infinity Ward need to develop a brand new series, set during a different time period, with brand new everything. I will however applaud infinity Ward for introducing point streaks, allowing say a player to get two kills and capture a flag and recieve a UAV etc. Also ranking your guns up is a lot of fun. I find myself wanting to play this game the most right now, but I honestly think that once I have given it a good month of gameplay, which I believe is fair, ill be back on Black ops having fun, even if I am not doing too well. To sum this game up and the whole engine in general, there is to much going on for the type of engine being used. Expand

Well, back to Modern Warfare 2 I guess. Modern Warfare 2 had better map design, weapon design, spawn placement, sound design, kill streak design and frankly weapon proficiencies are a step backward.

Any fps should have to pass 2 tests: The pistol test. Can a great player win with a pistol? The unlock test. Is the game balanced enough to make a level 1 player be able to compete evenly?

Only its $60 not $15, also about 2/3 down the campaign (main reason I bought the game loved MW story line) Infinity Ward gives you the middle finger and laughs at you by making one of your favorite characters die. I'm disappointed with this game. You would think, okay nothing is going to be as bad as MW2.. well MW3 is living proof that it is. The texture quality is like 360p, and at rare moments 480p.

The maps are too compacted. There's no real opportunity for you to set up your equipment without an enemy coming to you within 10 seconds after you placed your equipment down. Within 20 seconds,

They reused the layout design which is pretty sad. On top of that, if anyone here remembers the CoD4 map Pipeline, they reused the building where you can go up and camp. They put that building in one of their single player missions. I have nothing good to say about this game. A waste a money. Go get yourself Skyrim, Saint Rows The Third, Battlefield 3 or even Duke Nukem Forever.

We are speaking about a modern warfare 2.1, it is not mas that to say. Gentlemen of activision take measurements and offer us a game in conditions.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
