Yea, this game is similar to MW 2, but if it aint broke, don't fix it. Any educated consumer knew what they were getting when they bought this game. No one claimed that this was going to be a completely new experience. I enjoyed the single player campaign because it is fast paced, frantic and fun. I 'm smart enough to understand the crazy story, making it more enjoyable. As far asYea, this game is similar to MW 2, but if it aint broke, don't fix it. As far as multiplayer, I feel that they have made improvements over MW 2. Strike packages force you to think about your tactics, weapons feel good, hit boxes seem to have been tightened up, and the weapon rank system is a nice change of pace. Yea, some of the kill streaks are the same, and some of the weapons are the same, but what's wrong with that? This game sold 6.5 million copies in the US and UK on launch day, so it must not be too bad. Expand

All the negative spam is pretty unfair. If Battlefield didn't exist this would be far and away the best FPS period. But it's not. MW, MW2, and now MW3 are all very similar, as a matter of fact, if MW3 had just been DLC it would be considered the greatest DLC pack EVER.

I'm one of those people that enjoyed BlackOps and the customizations, unlocks etc. At first glance you seem to have a lot of options in terms of what can be done with each individual weapon once leveled up, the different perks, kill streaks and specializations - but it lacks the same cohesion as BOPS. I found the maps to be lackluster with no stand-out favourites. They all seem to be generally packed too tight and the ebb and flow of games is too sporadic. Guns don't seem entirely balanced and the pace/style of place doesn't suit most of them. If it's going to be primarily SMG type weapons being used, include more of them. Expand

I asked my brother why he was trading in Battlefield 3 for Modern Warfare 3, and I told him it would just be more of MW2. He said that's what he wants...
And that's exactly what he got! I have played my fair share of CoD, and from the moment I saw the identical HUD on MW3, I sighed. This game is the exact same as its predecessor, and yet it will be the highest purchased game of the year.

The guns are indifferent, i enjoy the SMG and Assault classes, but almost always have kick on the weapon to help me aim. In reality, weren't we expecting it to be a bit like MW2? And i think theyve found the right balance between COD4 and MW2, with some old school aspects and less annoyances like Quickscoping. The team aspect of the game has kept me hooked, and although I find it ridiculous that they can charge £34.99 for a few extra maps and stats, I have been more than impressed with the Sledgehammer effort. They only support up to 16 players and still cant keep lag and connection problems down. After 5 hours of play I see constant Host migration pauses and occassional network lag. This is on an overclocked quad core machine with a gtx460 card and running on FIOS.
Battlefield on the other hand is the opposite. They actually took the suggestons of the COD community and implemented them. Full browsing with ranked dedicated servers and up to 64 players in a game. The max I've been in was a 32 player game and lag wasn't there and none of the Console game host migration BS.
The graphics are also a big disappointment. They are once again the quality of XBOX and nowhere near what they should be on a higher end machine. Even the sounds are scrrewy. The guns are muffled like some liberal teacher made them, not wanting to expose people to the correct sounds of war. All I can say is give BF3 a try. Besides the vehicles you'll think you're playing the game you thought MW3 would be.

I don't know how "Activision" can launch this kind of games. Call of duty: MW3 is the same game that MW2; the same graphics, weapons and the same strategy.
MW3 is not a emulator of the real live but a simple arcade.
I put 1 because this game is really an actualization of mw2 and NOT A NEW GAME.

Modern Warfare 3 is little more than another $59.99 map pack for Call of Duty 4. It's really time that Activision did more than just employing 2 game developers to move building around on maps, change some textures and some minor tweaking of features and then calling it a new game. So lame.

All of the sequels this year (Uncharted, Gears of War, Resistance, Killzone, Batman, Dark Souls, Skyrim, + MANY others) have at least attempted, and in most cases succeeded, in upping the quality of various aspects of their game.
What about MW3 then? Zero, nada, zilch! Same graphics engine, same physics, same poor lighting effects. This stuff was barely good-looking in 2009's MW2, let alone now where other games have caught up SO MUCH.
I don't play BF3, but cannot deny how amazing it looks. Uncharted 3 even refined its graphics over the previous one. Batman Arkham City made an environment that is so huge it will take you weeks to cover. MW3? Another 5 hour campaign with piss-poor visuals and same old gameplay.

And while it's fair to say that the CoD formula is what we should expect for each new instalment, I don't expect to find the SAME BUGS THAT WERE PRESENT IN 2007 FOR MW1!!! Seriously, 4 years and 4 CoD games with the same bugs, same AI issues, same graphics, same sounds. If the "CoD formula was PERFECT", then they could re-release the sahem thing. It's not!

I'm selling mine without even finishing the campaign....

Hit detection is crap , you get shot while you're behind a corner. Air-support by the other team means you're pretty much Fu**ed!. this is solely based on the multiplayer experience . 2 points for the awesome Campaign .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If the game was the first of its series (Modern Warfare), it would be a 10. But it's not, and it's too easy to compare it to older games.

For $60 two years after the release of MW2 you should be getting way more advanced graphics or better engine.

Anyways, by itself it's a great game. Compared to it's predecessors, it's a minimum upgrade.

And here's MW3, the story is even more convoluted, and while the action is as always blisteringly intense, without any kind of story that makes us care about who these characters are and why they are doing what they do, it feel shallow and empty and I struggled to find the energy to fight through the waves of enemies. The game is linear and while I accept that a lot of great games are heading down this linear route, the difference is that in a good game the story drives the game along, it's part of the set pieces and both co-exist. MW3 is basically set pieces interrupted by action film clichés and drivel. The multiplayer is as frantic and fun as ever and while this is the games saving grace, it's not enough to erase the disappointing single player from my memory.

Wait for the price to drop or buy it second hand for the multiplayer portion (who'd have though Activision would not take the now popular "on-line pass" money spinner)

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
