So in closing, yes it is more of the same with some new stuff thrown in. But I believe it's worth it,and isn't the old saying "War never changes"? Great game Expand

While the MW3 campaign completes the story started with the first two, it feels weak and, for a lack of a better term, "half-a$$ed". This game is exactly like the 200 last CODs: The same 15 minutes campaign and with the same mediocre story. It is the same game from 2 years ago with some new guns but the rest is exactly the same. If you want to throw 40 box to the toilet, buy this game. This game is so bad that I just created an account in Metacritic to be able to criticize it : seriously, just look at my user name.

In my Opinion Activision Should Follow the Paths of Blizzard and Valve Alike, Make only a few games and patch them on a regular basis. But when Money is involved i dnt think thats going to happen Overall An Ok game at that, might wait till it's ben patched a bit better.

I'm actually going to write a review against all negative critics. I have been playing COD franchise since COD1. I bought all COD but this time I thought it is time to switch to BF3. After watching both reviews on GT, BF3 scored 9.2 and MW3 scored 9.3. That little 0.1 made me change and I decided to buy MW3 instead. So why am I giving a 10/10 for MW3? I bought all COD but this time I thought it is time to switch to BF3. After watching both reviews on GT, BF3 scored 9.2 and MW3 scored 9.3. That little 0.1 made me change and I decided to buy MW3 instead. So why am I giving a 10/10 for MW3? Here is why: COD4 was a huge success and I have to say it was really my first FPS I got addicted with and played COD4 for 1500 hours. COD4 was great and finally a GOOD welcoming change after CSS, Quake, Wolfenstein and TF engines. I remember though at that time people wanted to go back to WW2 style. So Treyarch decided to make WaW which ended up to be a pure disaster. Finally MW2 came out! Although it was a great game, lack of dedicated servers on PC did not make me want to play MW2 a lot. Therefore Treyarch then decided to release BLACK OP re-installing previous dedicated servers. I have to disagree with 85% of negative critics posted here. It is true that MW3 resembles a lot to MW2 but who cares? seriously? I know the franchise has been releasing a game every year? Get it over it lol again who cares? If they want to make money let them be! MW3 is, to me, an awesome game. I started it and I got addicted instantly. MW3 combines all previous years of experience this franchise has gained from COD4, WaW, MW2 and BLACK OP. Guns are really good, I haven't tried all of them yet - but so far rifles are well balanced. SMGs are SMGs. Melee got nerfed slightly to make it more realistic and finally many perks have been reviewed, changed and unlike in BLACK OP, akimbos are now only secondary guns. I am relieved to not see P90 akimbos anymore. As you would expect, MW3 maps are truly well designed. Although there are a lot of openings - you can't really "own" a map as MW3 is based on fast-pace style. It is good (gives new players the opportunity to kill and respawn is almost instant) and bad (for veteran players, it can be sometimes very frustrating - veterans can be killed from any corners) I am also very happy that Infinity Ward has introduced a whole new system in MP that allows you to level up a gun. I also enjoy new perks that can make you invisible to Air Support/Choppers. Finally, perhaps it is only me but I feel like MW3 really learnt from MW2 mistakes and Auto matchmaking on MW3 is fairly solid. The engine is really consistent. New modes such as Survival and Co op mission are really great! See I never really liked Co op mission. But MW3 made me change my opinion! Also if you are a "zombie-fan-kid" like I was in BLACK OP, you will love the survival mode Infinity Ward has introduced in MW3. In addition to people's critics: 1. No real innovation? I don't think so, I think there is when it comes down to perks, guns etc. Although it is minimal it doesn't really bother me like most raging kids. 2. Another cash? LOL so what? seriously who cares? 3. Bored of Campaign? At first I was very excited about MW3 SP, but the more you play the more bored you get. Why? Because you try to finish the game in 7 days. I'm pretty sure if you space out your gameplay you won't find Campaign as boring as most people think. It took me 8hrs to finish Campaign on Veteran mode. 4. MP is exactly the same as in MW2? Yea pretty much and I'm happy about it. BLACK OP wasn't much for me. Im more an Infinity Ward fan Expand

Im reviewing this based off the three game choices you are given at the main title screen; Spec Ops, Campaign, and Multiplayer. Im also comparing this game to Modern Warfare 2, not Call of Duty Black Ops, because Black Ops was not made by infinity ward. For Spec Ops, the game has two modes of play, Survival and missions. The missions are short and sweet, lasting around 5 to ten minutes long, depending on difficulty choice and other factors. The Survival mode is where you progressively fight waves of enemies in the form of ways in similar ways to the "zombies mode" in black ops. You get a variety of weapons to choose from and a disappointing amount of perks and and air support choices, unfourtantely. Spec ops survival mode lets you rank up, so it gives you that "achievement fix" people crave, and all the maps are the multiplayer maps, so you become aware of what each map is like for when you switch to multiplayer. The downside is, if you have played the other call of duty games, you will notice that all of the maps have this "cut and paste" feeling. You will feel like "i remember this hallway, or this grassy area looks familiar, or this snow level seems the same as the last game". But where spec ops really shines is having your girlfriend (or friend, for you forever alones) sit next to you and play survival together, able to look at the screen below you and know you got someone watching your back. Moving on to the campaign: Im just going to simplify this for you, If you never played any modern warfare before, the story is going to not make much sense to you, but they do offer a little cutscene to try to make sense of it. also, theres going to be a large amount of moments that are considered so over the top that you might think its really cool, or your like me and get bored of it because its simply ridiculous. For you Veteran players out there, this one is easier than black ops, not as hard as mw2. it has the simple formula of tap L1, shoot people, get shot, hid in cover for a few seconds to regenerate health. chances are you will probably die from a car explosion, because they only seem to blow up when you get close to them -_-. so be wary of tires on fire! that means its going to blow up. Onto multiplayer: As i mentioned before, you can play all the multiplayer maps on spec ops to get a feel for them so you dont get lost or wander aimlessly, but if you jump right into multiplayer (which is what i did), you will be confused, most likely. But the game is mostly similar to mw2 with improvements that make it feel like a DLC more than a full on new game. Notable improvements are the revamped killstreak system, now called point system. any time you kill someone, capture a flag, plant a bomb, take out a helicopter etc you get a point. Also there are 3 types of killstreak packages to choose from (with different types of killstreaks to earn). The first is the Strike Package, which is your standard cod killstreak idea, where you try to kill as many people you can before you die, and the streak ends. the support package, is the same but when you die your killstreak doesnt end, it carries over and you can still get that EMP you have always wanted :] . the third is the specialist strike package, this operates like the strike package, where when you die, it restarts. But instead of getting a UAV or a Helicopter, you get perks. so two kills you would get sleight of hand on the spot, or whatever you choose. Another improvement is that the guns have their own weapon proficiency, which levels up the more you use it, unlocking perks for the gun like focus, which is less recoil, or two attachments or impact which is like the fmj, or even longer range or more damage(like stopping power). these are seperate from the guns sights and attachments etc. Another change is 90% of the guns are new, which is good, and now the shotgun is a primary weapon like COD4, and the riot shield is back. Also, stopping power isnt a perk, its a weapon profficency and its the last one so your not really going to die as fast, and danger close is gone, commando is gone, and it always takes to noob tube hits to kill someone unless its a direct hit. where the game goes south is the spawn system. more often then not you will be spawned to feet behind, on the side, or in front of an enemy , and dying for stupid reasons. also, there is no cover, no where is safe. if you had a dedicated buddy he could cover your back, but thats a rare thing. What i recommend is you rent this game, see if you wanna keep it, then buy it. i rented it for 4 days and did not purchase. but its not a zero or a 2.8, its an 8 Expand

BUT i was quite surprised at times, like the level "blood brothers" im not gonna spoil, but this level really does get rid of ALL the loose ends from the previous games. The spec ops mode was amazing. If you have 20 minutes to spare, sit down and play some survival! whether you are alone or with a friend it is fun. it can get boring at times, but you just gotta be in the mood. i also think that spec ops has greatly improved from the previous MW game. Now then: Multiplayer. CoD's MP is really fun. Deathstreaks are still here (sad face) but hardly anyone abuses them. none of the perks are OP, and the new killstreak system is new and improved. some call it MW2.5, but i call it MW3, because it is. Everyone compares it to previous games, but they shouldnt. i look at every game independently as it is, and this game is fun. if a game isnt fun dont play it. I play videogames for fun, not to be some kind of MLG nerd pro. okay? any one can play this and have fun. go out and buy it, cuz your going to enjoy every second of it. There are also those who absolutely love this game because it's a Call of Duty game. For me, I bought the game having nothing against the Call of Duty series, mainly because I never play any of the games unless my friends are. This means that my score for this game will not be affected by the terms listed above. First, the Campaign mode. The campaign mode is the same as you've probably already predicted... It's action-packed, the screen is loaded with explosions, and there are tons of vehichle sections. I personally found nothing wrong with the story except for the predictability of it, the fact that the Ranger squad from Modern Warfare 2 doesn't make an appearance, and how short it is. I ended up beating this Campaign in around 5 hours on Regular and 8 hours on Veteran. The main problems of the Campaign come from the terrible AI that remains unchanged from all of the Call of Duty games. The AI will always know where you are and will stop at nothing to stop your progress... Which would be fine if you weren't supposedly controlling some average soldier. Instead of worrying about your teammates that are only a few meters away, they will always focus their fire on you. However, there are many exciting set pieces in the campaign that can make up for some of these problems. The Spec Ops has two different gameplay modes, both of which are very fun and addictive. Survival mode is a mode in which you do your best to survive increasingly difficult waves of enemies, such as dogs, suicide bombers, juggernauts, and chemical agents. In order to survive these enemies, you must go to the three terminals which allow you to buy and upgrade weapons, place traps, call in airstrikes, or buy defensive equipment... But there is a drawback however. In this mode you start with only a few of these options, upgrades, and weapon varieties, and to unlock more you must increase your Spec Ops level. I also found it slightly disappointing that you can only play with up to two players in this mode, instead of four players. The mission mode has returned and it comes with a great amount of variety. In one mission you have to disarm bombs, in another you can control juggernauts, and in my favorite mission one player controls sentry guns in order to help the other player reach the objective in time. These modes require much more thinking and cooperation than the rest of the game and it's a welcome return in my book. And finally, the main aspect of the game... the multiplayer portion. The general Call of Duty gameplay has returned, but only with a few additions and changes. The new multiplayer has introduced Strike Packages, which allow you to change the way your killstreaks work, there is Assault (The regular old-style system that has been used since COD4), Support (Used to support your team and your killstreak doesn't reset), and Specialist (You get perks instead of Killstreak rewards). They also added a new weapon proficiency system, where you have to level up your weapons to get your attatchments, camos, RD sights, and so on. And of course, they added new perks along with all of the perks that you'd expect to see in any Call of Duty game (Scavenger, Sleight of Hand). Also, playing the objective of the game mode or destroying enemy killstreaks will add to your killstreaks, as well as shooting at people. Other than that and a couple new gameplay modes, that's just about all the gameplay changes in this game. The melee system still has major issues, the spawning is terrible, and camping is just about the easiest way of getting kills. Any weapon that had balance issues before (UMP, Scar, ACR) is back and is still overpowered. The lag in this game is unbelievable at certain times (Sometimes it would skip every 5 seconds). And the multiplayer community doesn't help any of these issues either, instead they choose to exploit these issues... Doing anything possible to win. However, the multiplayer is still addictive at certain times despite all of these flaws... Especially when playing with friends. Overall, this game was fun but was held back a little bit by some of its flaws, especially on the Campaign and its acclaimed multiplayer. These flaws didn't make the game terrible, but they did make the game not as good as the previous Modern Warfares. But, if you are a person who is completely trashing the game and giving it a brutally low score... Just remember, the game was made in around a year. You can't expect to shove an insane number of changes in a videogame formula in under a year and even if you did, it would be even more laggy and unplayable than it is now. So in the end, Infinity Ward did a decent job, so their game gets a decent score: an 8/10 Expand

There are a few problems, hence the 9 and not 10 (you dont have to give it a 0 just because its not perfect or what you wanted). There are still flaws in the MP such as knifing through air and lag; and the campaign is too short, but these are redeemed through everything else. Before going on ill also address the whole stupid Battlefield vs MW thing. Why cant people just like both? I do. I prefer MW3 But would never say that BF3 is a bad game. They are so similar in some ways that it makes more sense to either like or hate both. The set pieces in BF3 are weak and feel lifeless no matter how interactive they tried to make them, but the MP is more strategic which is good and so why choose if I had the money id get both but couldnt (have seen BF played through and had a go though). MW3 nicely wraps up the story of the game with plenty of dramatic moments or twists which keep you interested and eager to find out what will happen next. The characters aren't very deep ( the usual macho men that you get in every war game) and yet they still manage to make you care about their fate on more than one occasion. The plot itself could be considered a little thin but does make sense and create an adequate sense of tension. The storyline moves along so quickly that some details are skimmed over and so it's hard to understand what is going on at times; on the other hand the pace keeps things interesting and no level or section of the story drags on for too long and becomes boring. The huge set-pieces in the game deliver such mind-blowing impact that you feel like youre really fighting for your life. There are just the right amount of explosions and things falling down around you to exemplify the destruction of that a third world war would bring without getting ridiculous. Each level has a different atmosphere from the last based on what had happened in the last level or the mise-en-scene of the current level. New York drops you in the middle of a fast-paced shootout through the streets, while Paris is an eerie, ghostown-like environment. Some sounds and textures may be recycled but this does not ruin anything at all. The guns have more of a 'feel' to them than in any shooter i've played. They look and sound lethal and really get you feelinf like youre firing the gun (my personal favourite being the M4A1, it just sounds so good). I don't understand most of the criticism of the visuals, they're good, no worse than any other game out there and are superior to other MW games. Despite the short campaign I did come out of it feeling satisfied because although it only took around 5 hours to finish, they were a damn good five hours and I had no problem moving on to higher difficulties just to have an excuse to play it again. Not only that, the MP and spec ops provide plenty of replatability. Spec Ops has two types now: Missions and Survival. Survival is infinitely replayable and i've actaully never got bored of playing it. Playing with different people creates a different experience and 16 levels is plenty to choose from, and despite not making new levels especially for it the MP maps also fit playing survival (actually better in some cases). The levelling up system to unlock upgrades and weapons for use in survival mode also adds an element which encourages you to play on even beyond the fact that its just genuinely fun, especially with a friend. The missions are more of a mixed bag with some being better than others but generally being very well designed. Most of them become incredibly hard (for me anyway) on veteran difficulty and so there's many many hours more gameplay in trying to complete them; additionally, what's not to like about being able to just pick a mission and jump in to a juggernaut suit anytime you like?

The multiplayer has plenty of flaws. But every single MP i've played has for the first month or so and there's not too many compared to, say, Resistance 3. Some of the maps are a little poorly designed and too labyrinthine or just having too many, too good camping spots. However the leveling up system is a large improvement on any other MW game. The weapon levels add an extra element to how you have to improve your guns and proficiencies allow further customisation of your class. The prestige shop is a nice little touch aswell. The perks are more balanced than ever before with some countering others and needing to be used more tactically than usual. The new killstreak system with support, assault and specialist packages allow newer players to stand more of a chance and allow there to be a greater variation of killstreaks available while also rewarding players who can get the higher level killstreaks with worthwhile rewards.

I also know that these games are created for the online/multiplayer/cooperative play community. Online, multiplayer, cooperative play has never interested me, and though the single-player campaign in MW3 is short, it is good - fast paced and fun. I mainly play war games as an "in-between". After playing longer, more involved games (i.e. RPGs) I enjoy playing a snack-sized game that doesn't require a whole lot of commitment or time. Once I'm done, I'm again ready to take on something with more substance. In all, this game delivers what was expected: good graphics, tight controls, and a whole lotta killing in a snack-sized portion. Sign me up for MW4. Expand

The multiplayer is Call of Duty. What did you expect all you reviewers giving it 5 and below? Most of the multiplayer maps are interesting visually. The weapons and upgrades are well done but I still don't think the guns sound realistic. Every FPS developer should learn from Ubisoft when it comes to making realistic gun sounds. Take the M4 in this game for instance. What the f is that all about???? It sounds like a mix between a 50 caliber machine gun and some sort of heavy cannon on a gun ship. Yo, it's an assault rifle so that means, like all assault rifles, it should sound like a friggin RIFLE!!. Anyways, giving this game a score below 6 is just silly unless you are comparing it to Black Ops. By the way, Black ops is still not a perfect game because the single player campaign's story idiotic. An escape from a Russian gulag?? Why? Fighting Germans?? Why not just leave the thing in Vietnam? Anyways, youv'e got to take into account the dogdy FPS shooters out there before giving this game a zero or something like that. To start with, the improvements Modern Warfare 3 made from Black Ops, at least on the PS3 version, are staggering. After playing close to probably 500 matches on multiplayer, I can say that the connection in multiplayer is perfect compared to my connection in Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. In the 500 matches I've played, I've had games end only a hand-full of times, which is far more than I can say for Black Ops. Host-migration always goes through without the game ending, again there is only a hand-full of times where it did not go through. Me and most of the 50 people in our clan agree that MW3 is far better than the PS3 version of Black Ops. No more do we have to try 5 times to get into a lobby with everyone there, or to have to re-invite people that mysteriously disappear when we back out. Playing with my clan is SO easy in MW3 with the integration of Call of Duty Elite. Elite is an absolute God-send for clans. It also adds another reason to play, with clan ops. The addition of Elite, and vast improvement in connectivity could have me saying that MW3's multiplayer is the best I've played. If it wasn't for the maps. My. Gosh. Do the maps in MW3 disgrace the lineage of COD4, and even disgrace MW2 AND Black Ops, and I'm not even talking about the DLC. The dumbest move Infinity Ward made in development of MW3 is out-sourcing the map designs to Sledgehammer. All those brilliant map designs that made MW2 so fun, and even Black Ops, are gone in this game. Whatever happened to map designs like Terminal? And Afghan? And FAVELA!? And what about huge open maps like Wasteland? It's all street combat, and not even, all the maps are just a bunch of hallways, there's no open areas. The DLC maps disgrace MW3's OWN maps. They're confusing as all hell, and yes there are open maps, but they're circular in shape in so there's tons of flanking, and if that's not the case, the maps are cluttered with obstacles so there's no real long-range sniping in any of the maps. I've never even used a legitimate sniper class except to have fun with MW3's Intervention, the MSR. Speaking of a gun, the guns in this game are much improved. Personally, I hated the guns in Black Ops. If you were not good at run-n-gun with rapid fire, you were **** out of luck. The FAMAS was quite simply...you know what, I can't even talk about the Black Ops multiplayer because it LAGGED SO BAD! The M16 was useless because of the lag, that's how bad it was. Anyway, because this game is more geared for clans, I find myself using an anti-air class with an LMG. The LMGs have been improved so MUCH from any of the previous games. The MK42 is one of my favorite guns. I have a dedicated LMG class for when I play with my clan. The BF3 beta got me hooked on using a support class, and so it was awesome to be able to do the same in MW3. I don't know where the multiplayer ranks among Cod games, but it's pretty well done. I can not say the same thing about the campaign though. The gameplay in the campaign is awful, it is so boring, and all the missions are tight, enclosed spaces, just like the maps in multiplayer. The only objective in the entire campaign is to follow the leader, essentially. Everything is so scripted, and every 5 seconds you have to wait until something happens so you can move forward. Everything is so innately linear about it, that exploring has absolutely no purpose. You might as well not even have objectives either, because it's impossible to move on without completing them. However, some of the levels break the mold and are awesome to play, but then the next level goes back to being boring again. It's very easy to see that the problem is that the COD series needs more imagination. If you go back and play COD1, you will find a completely different game, it will blow your mind the changes that have occurred since then, i.e. the Eder Dam, for instance. Overall, and you can see this in the entire game, Call of Duty needs to do something completely different. I've played hundreds of hours in this game, but I don't want to do the same thing again come next November, i.e. Black Ops 2. Expand

Call of Duty gives you more of the same, like many other franchises, and that's what Call of Duty should do. People talk about how Call of Duty should change but no one contributes any ideas and the formula sells so why change it? Hence why there are so many negative reviews here and you can tell some just follow the bandwagon, not having an open mind or an opinion for themselves.

The compelling campaign and stellar multiplayer modes is what makes Call of Duty. Call of Duty can become a football game but then it wouldn't be Call of Duty and the franchise has enough b****es jumping on the bandwagon, boycotting the franchise and using the same excuse to hate the franchise every year "it's the same thing", so change is not going to solve anything. If anything, it'll make it worse.

Even if they use a newer engine, with loads of haters complaining about the "dated" graphics (graphics isn't everything y'know), there would still be haters. Same amount as it is today. It runs consistently at 60 FPS which makes up for it's graphics, it's not the best but it still looks good.

Consistent frame rate is required for competitive play rather than graphics that makes you go "wow" and there are loads of better looking games such as Uncharted as well as Final Fantasy. Because that's what makes Call of Duty the fast-paced, addictive shooter that it is today. What makes Call of Duty the most famous shooter?

Simple, this game offers what very few games offer, you know, sometimes there's nothing like running around stabbing people or quick scoping and running while shooting on all directions. Call of Duty does that better than any game, that's what the fans like and that's the right answer. There are many worse games out there. Prison Break: The Conspiracy, Terminator: Salvation and Killzone (PS2) are just some of the games that are worse than Call of Duty.

Survivor Mode is an addition to the already seen Spec Ops. It's not original but it's a great addition to the franchise that surpasses zombie mode in Treyarch's Call of Duty. Enemies don't spawn in the same place. Instead, they move tactically based on your current location so you can camp in one spot and shoot all the enemies but you can't do that forever. It lets you practice all the weapons seen in multiplayer so the skills that you've learnt can be extrapolated and transferred into multiplayer, Call of Duty's highlight feature. Zombies is just for fun but it's not really that fun anymore now that Modern Warfare 3 has Survival Mode and, hopefully, we'll see it again in Infinity Ward's next Call of Duty (presumably titled Modern Warfare 4).

Multiplayer has some great new modes that adds more depth into the multiplayer mode. Infected is like zombies and it's really intense as well as addictive. It's a fun mode for those who don't care about their KD ratio. Kill Confirmed is another good one, it's TDM but you collect dog tags that counts as a kill. This is a bit more team based mode as opposed to the regular TDM where players are free to wonder about.

Killsteaks is revamped so it's now called Pointstreaks. Kills doesn't just count towards your Killstreaks anymore. Completing objectives such as planting bomb or capture the flag counts towards Killstreaks and this encourages players to play the objective in objective based game modes.

Killstreaks are organized into three different strike packages. Assault for chopper gunners, Support for UAV and Specialist for more perks. These are also customizable so you can have one class where you have the Assault packages and in the other class, you can use Specialist so you don't have to go back to the menu to change your Killstreaks; just customize them from your existing classes.

There's a lot of features in Modern Warfare 3 that haters fail to see. Prestige Shop encourages you to prestige. You get a token every time you prestige and you can use that token to buy double XP as well as an extra class. Each weapon has Proficiencies, which is basically perks, and you can only use one at a time. You can have one where you can add an extra attachment, one that reduces recoil and many more.

Overpowered perks and dolphin dive, seen in Black Ops, have been removed so the game is more balanced. Infinity Ward fixes bugs and glitches unlike Danger Close, who did a bad job with Medal of Honor: Warfighter. With that being said, Modern Warfare 3 has gone above and beyond the Call of Duty with an amazing campaign as well as stellar multiplayer modes.

FPS fans, don't miss out. Call of Duty lives up to the hype, and this game is how Call of Duty evolves. IW takes a streamlined approach, which is why MW3 isn't as good as MW2 and Call of Duty 4. But still, IW did a good job with the Call of Duty franchise.

What I would say is that what people have to remember is that the current iteration of this franchise is nothing more than a corporate cash cow. It was the first game to raise the RRP of a videogame to £55 and now with this version Activision are also flogging a £35 subscription (annual) on top of that.

There is also the argument of rehashing the same game - and I think you cannot compare this game to sports franchises... because at the end of the day the parameters of a sports game are finite - you can't suddenly start putting anti-grav on a football, etc. but with something like this - where you are only restricted by the minds of the designers and their creativity... this version is just like McDonald's creating one of their "Tastes of America" - it's got a slightly different sauce on it, but essentially it's the same grey, tasteless meat inside...

I've played all of these and the problem is the quality isn't that good... floaty mechanics, pea-shooter effects and a really old graphics engine - who cares if it's running in 60FPS if it looks like an original Xbox or PS2 game?

The problem is that the hatred isn't just for the game, but for the treatment of gamers by Activision - and of course their vision of what a game should be... it's no longer about the enjoyment of the audience or the creativity of the designer, it's about milking the market for as much as they can... and don't get me started on their charge for playing online if you buy one of their games second hand as well as their grotesquely over-priced maps popping up every other month (about £10 each for usually 3 or 4 maps that have featured in old games).... and before you say you don't have to buy them - in order to play online with friends and get maximum chance of joining a match - they pretty much make it essential.

At some point we (including the press) have to say enough is enough. We're not just here to be milked for cash - £55 for the game, £35 for subscription, £10 a time for maps, £10 if you want to play it online, etc. etc. and all for the privilege of playing the same game remixed... is it worth 5 stars? Really?

I also found that the survival mode has so much content and so many maps that you could literally be hooked played it for weeks or even months, I can honestly say that Survival beats the hell out of Nazi zombies and Zombies were the only thing worth replaying in black Ops.

I am experiencing some problems connecting to friends in private match and i'm not sure if you can connect to friends in spec ops, but that is saying unable to join session also. In MW2 and Black Ops this is working fine in private matches so I'm thinking it's a mw3 issue that will get resolved in a patch. We'll see.. when I started playing just after the midnight release, there were a few connection issues, but they were intermittent and made me have to click find match a couple of extra times. Compared to the problems that black ops had when it was release, MW3's connection issues were mild. Overall I see it as a successfull release with some updates needing to be sent out. Expand

    Killzone 3: Same
    Gears of Wars 3: Same

These three games, even if they have not been elected the best games of the year were very well received by players. Why? Ben by what these games are really good.

Modern Warfare 3 is the same.

The history of the single player is very good and unfortunately as short as 2.
The multiplayer is as good as the two with a lot of new additions that are pretty nice.
The few new mode of play is very nice.

So yes I will go on Metacritic, so I'm going to put a 20/20 to make it back, and yes I agree with activision because their game was really under rated by the players!

It's a good shooter. I like it. The campaign is actually pretty good. The plot is laughable but still I enjoyed playing it. The Special Ops are also pretty fun, and you can take a friend along to help you complete them (random online people or split screen). This is a nice touch that adds some replayability to the missions. Survival is okay but it gets tiresome after a while (one problemIt's a good shooter. I like it. Survival is okay but it gets tiresome after a while (one problem is, it gets too difficult too quickly, so it's kind of frustrating). Now online play is pretty nice, you have like 13 out of 16 maps playable (for all I know they could be all playable on alternative modes), and they're all pretty great. Definitely much better than the maps on Black Ops 2. The weapons are all pretty balanced (I think it's only realistic that LMGs never get any use in the actual online play), and you rarely find cheaters so it's all pretty good. My only real complaint is lack of bots for single player, but I can live with that. Expand

This was the last Call of Duty game that I enjoyed, everything after is complete crap. Campaign is short but is a satisfying experience and is the last campaign that I will ever pay attention to in COD.

There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.

By sticking to the series' strengths, Modern Warfare 3 delivers some of the best competitive, cooperate, and single-player shooting in the business.

As a complete package, Modern Warfare 3 takes the cake. [Jan 2012, p.67]
