Game unlocks will be discussed but since you can view everything from the beginning, I didn't tick the may contain spoilers box. The game is very gripping. Even thou the console version looks dated compared to the pc version which supports 60 player battles. DICE did a wonderful job scaling the action down to fit any number from 24 down to squad 4 vs 4 battles. The action is intense and well balanced. The CQ of BF1/BF2 hoarding is gone with the addition of a flak suit that helps you survive explosive damage. The addition of laser and flashlights to your guns adds a lovely balance between distraction and if you use it you can give your position away. The way all the classes were reworked to give you a broader usage for each class is fantastic. Support can take out tanks using C4 explosives. The engineer can equip mines and rocket launchers at the same time. The Recon can go nuts with mobile spawn points and motion trackers. The assault is also the medic. Overall the game emphasis team work at the same time you can go lone ranger if you wish. The mix of multiplayer maps is very nice, from inner city battles to hill sides to deserts. It offers a good mix of environments to dish out some damage. The lovely Frost Bite Engine 2.0 with destruction in the environments is always nice. Destroying a building and killing all the campers inside will always put a big grin on your face.

The use of weapons is very satisfying. you can feel the heft of every gun and the way the modifications add to the weapon. From grips to sights, lasers to flash lights. It expands greatly on what you want to do with a weapon and how you approach the level. The way the knifing animation works is a nice touch lifted straight from Halo Reach's assassination idea. It freaks you out when you see someone else face then you get the killed via knife icons. The embarrassment is huge, it makes seeking out revenge even sweeter. As always bullet drop makes landing a headshot from over 250 meters a feat of skill. It rewards skillful play and since the other team and spot you. You have to be very tactical on when to strike.

Player animation is so nice. The way you can vault over things adds so much to the flow of the game. The way you drop to prone position is also very cool. Overall the game is pretty enjoyable online. The action is intense. The weapons are fantastic. The levels are varied and nice. The console version has less players but the action is still excellent. The only downside is that if you have a weak team, the other team tends to camp at the spawn point for the team destroying you to bits. that is only in conquest mode. Go buy the game and enjoy fantastic, scary action.

Aside from the mic issues/server disconnects, this game is pretty good overall. I was a little disappointed with the graphics, but the online game-play more than makes up for it. As soon as they patch the bugs I'll give it a 9/10.

Even though the single player campaign is quite uneventful, it is fairly entertaining even if doesn't deserve a replay. It is harder than you'd expect, mostly because the game sets a trail for you to follow (specific points and actions) and doesn't respect the own path it has set, making enemies appear behind you or in places completely out of the action range you'd expect. TheEven though the single player campaign is quite uneventful, it is fairly entertaining even if doesn't deserve a replay. It is harder than you'd expect, mostly because the game sets a trail for you to follow (specific points and actions) and doesn't respect the own path it has set, making enemies appear behind you or in places completely out of the action range you'd expect. The instructions are not very clear and you'll find yourself repeating some actions a few times until you get what you are actually supposed to do. The plot is hard to follow as names and locations are constantly thrown at you so you'll lose interest in the cut-scenes early in the game.

But the Battlefield series has always been focused on good multiplayer experiences, and that's what it delivers. While most of its gameplay mechanics have been copied exactly as they were from Battlefield Bad Company 2 (which is an excellent game by the way), the action feels a little more arcade-like due to the new maps designs. A lot of rooms, corridors and large buildings make the game feel a little but more Call-of-Duty-er. It makes the close range action more frequent than in the other games in the series. But that is not to say that the maps are small. They are huge and well-designed, but the actions tend to be focused inside certain buildings and small structures - especially in the Rush mode. A good thing is that there's not much liberty for snipers, because it is very hard to aim from outside into those buildings or camp by the doors or windows without getting caught.

The amount of weapons, gadgets and accessories in this game would make any first-person-shooter gamer cry of happiness. You can set your soldier to pretty much whatever you'd like by combining different weapons and abilities. The points system is better designed this time around, earning you experience for all kinds of support actions, not only kills. Playing as a team and helping your squad will earn you big points, so you don't need to be the top killer to do well and get upgrades.

Finally, the vehicles are much more customizable and you'll earn upgrades for them too - not just the upgrades you'd get on your class by using them like more amor or better accuracy, but accessories like better radars, new missiles and such.

If you're looking for a deep multiplayer experience with lots of upgrades, variation in gameplay, gorgeous graphics and intensive team-play that gets you rewarded for all actions, look no further, Battlefield 3 is for you.

Well I gotta say that while this game isnt absolutely amazing it does just enough to warrant checking it out. I am a CoD fan, well I guess now its I used to be a CoD fan. CoDMW2 is amazing and has a good amount of map packs. CoDMW3 is bull crap. I hate to say it but looks like CoD has lost the throne and BF3 has taken over....for now.

After many years I finally tried Battlefield again, but this one is fabulous. There are some problems, like needing to jump over something which is only 1cm high, lag (I've not played to long to experienced it myself yet). But nothing the less I'm glad I've brought back MW3 yesterday and bought BF3

Game is great, campaign could be better and there are some issues with glitches and graphics but the multiplayer is crazy fun with all the vehicles. Still has some stuff to workout but has a good foundation and could be amazing with some tweaks.

I bought BFBC2 and hated it because I was so used to the fast paced, action packed, tighly quartered CoD gameplay. Thinking BF3 would be a nice change of pace, I bought it. It has not disappointed. I find that this game is more realistic and more innovative than CoD. The levels are massive each with a variety of attack options. If you want to engage in an aerial assault, you can just jump in a jet or a helicopter, no killstreak necessary. If you want an armored ground assault, you can jump in a tank (drive or ride, either way). If you are hundreds of meters away from your objective, you can jump in a humvee/jeep and drive until you are comfortably close. The recoil on the guns is crazy, but at least there is recoil and it's not just hold the "shoot" button. The weapons have a variety of different attachments and the customization is refreshing. If you don't fire in controlled bursts, you will likely miss your target. The different classes were hard to get used to at first, but once you adjust, the experience becomes enjoyable. Sniping takes on a whole new meaning, requiring you to adjust your aim to account for distance so that your bullet takes the proper trajectory to get the kill.

If someone is camping in a building, you can literally destroy the building to flush them out or they will die trying to hide inside of it. There are things that need fixing, however. The "squad" feature often separates parties and the voice chat is less than desirable. I used to love Call of Duty and Modern Warfare. I had great times with those games. I even bought MW3 hoping that all the critics would be silenced. Instead, I have become one of the critics, and one of those who appreciates Battlefield more for the better experience it provides. Battlefield 3 is worth it if you enjoy a realistic (and at times frustrating) experience.

I have found it to be slightly lagging in terms of frame-rate and often has screen tearing during the campaign. There is a lack of split screen for the co-op mode meaning I have to play with random people and I am unable to complete missions on hard as they aren't good enough or just exit out. Multiplayer is where the game really excels, however the previously mentioned frame rate issues and graphics stop it from being truly brilliant (something I am told is better on the PC version). The single player is the average fare you get with modern military shooters, while enjoyable it's not something you would want to play twice unless you're going for trophies. I also have a slight problem with how the U.S. Marines are portrayed in the single player. The co-op is very enjoyable with a friend, but with only six missions, it leaves much to be desired. The multiplayer is the bread and butter of all fps games and Battlefield 3 makes the most out of what its got on the consoles. While the destruction of the Frostbite 2 engine is good, it feels a little subdued compared to the house toppling destruction of the Bad Company series, although the Back to Karkand expansion maps are supposed to rectify that this December. Nearly all the weapons in the game feel balanced so that you could do no wrong choosing any of them. The jets are fun and all, but aerial vehicles in general have a steep learning curve and the jets really takes you out of the action as there are only 24 players on consoles. The game modes while few are superb and the maps are very nice looking and varied. Every kill seems to have weight to them compared to other modern military shooters, you feel accomplished after killing someone and taking a dog tag is oh so sweet. The only thing DICE could have done better with Battlefield 3 is if they changed the default voice option to team chat since I find that many people don't know how to change the chat settings or are too lazy to change it. This game begs for teamwork and if you can't hear your teammates other than the ones in the squad, how can you truly work together as a whole? The suppression system in my eyes is revolutionary, no longer will players in Battlefield take on bullets like Superman, no right minded person would not flinch after feeling bullets fly past them. Nothing is more exhilarating than firing back at an enemy when your screen is blurry from the bullets flying around everywhere. Battlefield 3 is a must buy for hardcore shooter fans period. Leave Modern Warfare 3 for the noobs. Expand

I don't have people lunging at me with knives and getting 1 hit kills. Killing with a knife actually takes some form of skill. The sounds are awesome! The sound of the explosions and gunfire really helped seal it for me. I gave it a 7 because of the Single Player. If they separated the SP and MP it would have been a 9. Upon entering the single player campaign you'll probably be thinking two things... "I hope this is fun" and "Oh em gee let's skip this cutscene..." The game spits you into the back of an APC with your comrades engaging in conversation before being greeted by the sun as you step out onto the dusty street of a war torn bazaar. The graphics. The graphics. The graphics are nothing short of great-to-look-at, especially on a high definition TV, the sound quality is even better! Well, the presentation of the look and sounds is just fine, but what about the experience itself? Being perfectly honest, the Battlefield 3 campaign is lacking. Although it incorporates the different styles of play battlefield has been known for, it removes the freedom of play and destruction we all know so well. So anyway, you're prodded along by a stick of gunfire and yelling soldiers through the narrow corridor of offline gameplay, and pretty soon you'll be getting sick of that stick, trust me.

On the other hand, the online action is remarkable. In a good way. Kicking it off you have a small, yet diverse array of weapons and gadgets at your disposal. Leveling through the ranks you'll broaden your horizon in regards to options of combat utensils, and there's even upgrades for each of the vehicle types. The maps are of a large scale, yet still comfortable when made smaller for Team Deathmatch and Squad vs Squad game modes, environments are diverse and real enough to be made into your comfortable second home, at least for awhile. Unless you're a powerleveling experience whoring beast of victory, it should take at least a few months to progress through the main levels of experience, with the top level being 44. After 44 levels you'll enter the prestige state of leveling, you'll gain a new emblem and it will take more experience to level up, but you'll still retain your unlocks. I got really bored and I can't be bothered to continue the review. Anyway, it's a fun balanced game with a couple bugs which will be ironed out, and the singleplayer is not that good.

I don't mind a well done quicktime event, but being shuffled around and then be asked to simply "Press Circle" does NOT make me feel integrated to the experience. If you are going to put quicktime events in, you have to make it an experience where for every motion you do on screen, there is a relevant button press or sequence. Call of Duty, for all that people discredit it, perfected these sequences in MW1-MW2. Considering that BF3's single player is completely ripping off the CoD formula, I don't think it would be too much to ask to go that extra mile. The multiplayer is the bright spot here, even though I have a feeling that the 30fps is only something consoles achieve in an empty server with nothing going on. Once the flashlights are tweaked, it will be a fairly balanced experience. Well, as balanced as a Battlefield experience can be. While some of the classes are decently equipped to take on vehicles, the fact of the matter is that the playing experience in a vehicle far exceeds being a typical soldier. Your opportunity to actually get on a roll is far easier in a tank than it is on the ground. Considering how many rockets it can take to blow up a tank, things get a little hazier on the ground. This is still the most complete package of a Battlefield product we have seen yet. I hope they continue to tweak it to make it a better playing experience (the input lag on PS3 is very annoying), but it is still a very worthy purchase despite its several flaws. Basically, this is a good game that just got too much hype for the way it turned out. Expand

The maps are huge & the different modes of gameplay offer something drastically different & new from Modern Warfare. If you are having a hard time w/ team deathmatch, take a breakfrom that & fire up a round of conquest (those are the full-blown war maps where you can fly jets & helicopters or drive humvees troop transports or tanks all of which "level-up" as you score kills with them). Team Deathmatch strips the experience of the vehicles & tightens up th environment a bit in order to keep the action from going into a lull the maps still seem a bit larger than those found in Modern Warfare which is nice as that provides one more options for mounting an offense because it's almost impossible for a team to cover every flank. There is room for improvement however. Between matches you aren't allowed to customize your loadout, only view that round's statistics, awards & other entertaining but ultimately unimportant information. Also the spawn points in team deathwatch are still a bit punishing even w/ all the recent updates that have been released since the game has come to market. Learning the aircraft & their controls takes practice, be ready to get shot down a lot by the other "Aces" in the match. A bit of advice is to ride w/ someone who has more experience so you can rack up xp. In a round I leveled up my attack chopper 4 times because the pilot was experienced.

If you're looking for something new & different from MW3 this is a breath of fresh air.

Great game, but the removal of bots means it is not perfect. It is absolutely perfect for people who love strategy based tactical shooters. the maps are large and battles are intense. It has great sound, graphics and one of the best FPS i have played. Once again, DICE have made only one mistake, the removal of bots for people who want to take it easy, practice, or have no internet connection.

I came into Battlefield 3 with high expectations and I will state this: I came into the game looking for something to satisfy my multiplayer cravings; not the single player, I knew the single player would probably be redundant so those who look at a game for its single-player experience, stop. This is not the game for any single player lovers. Has BF3 satisfied my multiplayer cravings? II came into Battlefield 3 with high expectations and I will state this: I came into the game looking for something to satisfy my multiplayer cravings; not the single player, I knew the single player would probably be redundant so those who look at a game for its single-player experience, stop. This is not the game for any single player lovers. Has BF3 satisfied my multiplayer cravings? I think so. It's insanely addictive, the teamwork that this game requires is a massive reason why I like it so much. I can still rank up just from resupplying, healing, spotting, piloting, and etc. A bit slow to rank up but I'm having a fun time ranking up, so why not? I saw the review that was complaining about the fact that the game doesn't remember your favourite map settings? Seriously? There are only 10 maps (soon to be 14 with BtK) and 5 game modes; if you can't remember what game mode you like best and the map you liked best, I pity your memorization capabilities. I have no problems; I know what combo I like best: Conquest and Kharg Island. Done. Simple as that. If you can't adapt to what they've given you by complaining about the difficulty of the game's targetting, man up. Don't expect everything to be given to you on a silver platter even if you paid 60+ dollars. It's called taking some time to actually adapt yourself to the game. There are a lot of things to say about this game's multiplayer but I can safely say that as long as you have an open mind, you will not be disappointed. Are there some short-comings? Sure. I have it for PS3 and the multiplayer gets incredibly slow-paced in the much larger maps like Caspian Border and Kharg Island due to the small amount of players. I'd like it if DICE could improve this somehow even if it means removing some of the destruction aspects of multiplayer. Any other disappointments? I know that some specializations for the vehicles don't work very well (TV Missile) and the forsaken Godlight (I'm sure that they're going to nerf this soon anyways). Rush is kind of a disappointment too, but mostly because if your team isn't very smart, they'll run through the same old gauntlet, die, rinse and repeat. Sniping is also a pain, but who knows? I will say that I suck at sniping but some of the sniper rifles are better without scopes. Jets? Difficult to fly but I do believe that learning how to fly it is incredibly rewarding. In the end, Battlefield 3 is a game made for the multiplayer freak inside of everyone. I can't completely demote it because it doesn't have a worthwhile single-player experience. I was so grateful that I pre-ordered this game; worth it. It does have some bugs and issues that it still needs to fix but I have trust in DICE, it will happen. So in the end, this is a very worthwhile game. I mean, it's not like we got a rehashed game made for a cash grab, right MW3? Expand

Rush mode is amazing! Two teams fighting to get through a bottleneck, while planes are flying over and dropping bombs, it sometimes feels like a real war, not like a playground were little kids run around (like COD). Good game. And I'm not even a good player of this game. As a player, you have to know what you are doing in the game space. For the cerebral player, it is very challenging. It is frustrating, but in order to be good, a player will have to take time to develop their game play. The campaign was rather quick but it was a fun time. The vehicle missions were very unique and those are the ones that stand out once you finish off all the missions. The only issue I have with the campaign is that it's told very similar to Black Ops' campaign in that most of the missions are flashbacks from a soldier being interrogated. The threat in the campaign hits pretty close to home in the present day. The multiplayer is a lot of fun too and it's very team-based, which brings a welcome change. This is certainly one of the best FPS games on the market. Expand

About singleplayer: It's one of the few reasons why I can't give the game a 10. It sucks most of the time, with loads of frustrating moments when you don't know where the shooting comes from and constantly die. And that's not realistic, it's just plain annoying. The singleplayer campaign tries to present itself as a Call of Duty-style rollercoaster ride, but only manages to do that in the last level, which actually helps to leave an overall positive impression.

About co-op: It's there just for show, and is mostly as frustrating as the singleplayer, it might not be ignored just to get some weapons for the multiplayer.

About multiplayer: It's where the game shines. Carefully balanced, it's going to hook you up for a while. Featuring seemingly quite few modes, they're all the game needs. It's always fun, whether you're going in close quarters with a shotgun, sniping people from the distance, flying by in a jet, or destroying buildings with a tank.

So, an awesome game, definitely worth picking up. I bought the limited edition (so with the Back to Karkand pack) and I don't regret it at all, the new maps and weapons are great.

Battlefield 3 is EAs marketing giant offering the revolutionary Frostbite 2 engine. It takes place during a WMD crisis where are plot to attack New York and Paris is discovered. However the campaign is shadowed by the giant that is the Battlefield multiplayer.

    Story: 7/10
Battlefield 3's campaign is completely independent to prior games in the series, so you do not need to be a Battlefield veteran to get into it. The campaign is truly beautiful and shows how horrific war can be without taking away from the gameplay. However the story is a cliche of WMDs, terrorists and Russians making it difficult to stand out next to other modern shooters.
The characters are nothing special or particularly likeable but they seem like real people which only adds to the amazing war experience that Battlefield 3 has to offer. Gameplay: 8/10
The gameplay is similar but more refined that the Bad Company series which a stronger emphasis on vehicle warfare than ever before. However this concentration on vehicles puts infantry at a strong disadvantage on larger multiplayer maps where Apache helicopters can decimate spawn areas very easily. However the addition of Jets are breathtaking and can be used to support ground units or for intense dogfights with other fighters. Finally the improvements to character movements look brilliant but can put players at a disadvantage when climbing over walls etc.

    Graphics & Sound: 10/10
The graphics and sound perfect particularly on the PC version or with a headset. However the console versions are still unbelieveable. As I mentioned earlier the improvements to character movements look brilliant but should have been focused in the campaign rather than multiplayer. The destruction element to the Frostbite engine has been toned down in multiplayer but allows for stunning cinematic moments.

    Extras & Multiplayer: 8/10
DICE's true calling is the Battlefield 3 multiplayer experience which is better and more refined that it has ever been. The balance between epic vehicle battles and close quarters gun fights is a nice change of base to other multiplayer games such as Call Of Duty. Battlefield has always been a team focused game and Battlefield 3 is no exception, this game is very rewarding to players paying in a cooperatively and assisting fellow team members. You can still play Battlefield 3 as a lone wolf player but your team will suffer because of it and you will not find the game as rewarding as you would when playing with a group of friends. The leveling of weapons and attachments are very well done and with the addition of new guns in dlc packs can only improve the game. The only problem with the multiplayer in this game is the balance issues, players can severly decimate opponents by rushing with shotguns with explosive rounds, charging points with vehicles or picking off opponents with sniper rifles from across the map.

    Enjoyment: 7/10
The enjoyment of this game is unfortunetly were this game suffers as will other games like Crysis and Killzone there is too much concentration on graphics rather than making the game fun to play which alot of games dont think about. However when playing with group of friends online this game can be very fun and you will keep coming back for more but when playing alone it will just seem like a well presented shooter.

Unlike games such as call of duty, me constantly dying never once frustrated me, I seemed to just laugh and brush it of as battlefield 3 allows you to enjoy the realism and scale of the multiplayer modes. However, I was again disappointed as maps as well as the amount of people per match were scaled down on consoles compared to the PC but that too was expected. The campaign, while it could have had more intriguing characters, was a lot of fun. It was filled with huge moments like buildings tearing apart, earthqueakes, this game is huge in scale. It had some fun missions and all, but nothing that stands-out from other singleplayer FPS. I found it a bit short too.

The co-op. I played it like twice, it was basically Spec Ops from MW2 but less entertaining. So that's an addition that didn't work out.

But we all know why we play BATTLEFIELD, the multiplayer. And boy it is good. BATTLEFIELD 3's multiplayer it's a completely different experience in FPS multiplayer. It's extremely addictive and entertaining, you can call in 4 of your friends, form a squad and jump in a tank or a chopper and blow all the map up.
One of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever played, it doesn't have a big amount of game modes but the ones it has are enough. Plus , the maps are huge and very fun to play at.

One problem I have is that the game, at least for me, doesn't run that smooth in the PS3. I have seen how fast and paced it runs on PC, the engine is a bit lower in the PS3 so it may not run as good as on PC.

The multiplayer is definitely a 10/10, the campaign around a 8/10, and the co-op just doesn't matter. But the gameplay is a little lower in PS3. Overall a good gaming experience to buy, maybe not at full price anymore, I think BATTLEFIELD 4 would be better but you can still get a good price along DLC.

A very good game with a great balance in the team deathmatch and other multiplayer modes.
I preferred the server selection from the PS3 version from the Origin version for the PC.

"Battlefield 3" was made for the PC, but the PS3 version is still good. Due to the console's limitations, the graphics are inferior and Conquest mode is limited to only 24 players. A game with an astonishing multiplayer. Many giant maps (if you bought the premium) where the destruction was part of the experience and many weapons to use and customize. Unlike call of duty, here actually exist the teamwork.

Battlefield 3's multiplayer has got to be one of the most immersive multiplayers yet, and still retains to be noob-friendly while still rewarding the dominant of players.

On a side-note, the single player is completely trash and feels heavily scripted, but on the other hand, the multiplayer makes up for this.

The graphics are a mixture of awesomeness and disappointment. The lighting system is really impressive, however I hate fighting when it's dark as everything blends together. Moreover many elements seem fuzzy and pixelated. Character animation is very good.

Multiplayer is great - addictive and focuses on team play. If you have played a lot of CoD before, you need some time to get use to the new way of playing. You actually kill less frequently and have to think more about your strategy, however this in return gives you more satisfaction. For example, team deathmatch is actually TEAM deathmatch, as opposed to CoD, where it's usually "every man for himself".

Vehicles add a lot to the gameplay. Classes are balanced nicely and actually force some players to think tactically.

Overall, the game is pretty good, it's just a shame that the campaign is a disappointment.

Sound: 8 - Sounds fantastic with the sounds of buildings crumbling around you truly feeling immersive and the sounds of the guns at a high quality.
Gameplay: 7 - Hugely let down by its single player attempt it feels like a high production film with a low production writer. In other words the single player to be blunt feels confused among the gameplay values and in a single player experience which should be sensational its a little disappointing the features of the multiplayer weren't implemented enough into the single player because the multi-player is great.
Lasting appeal: 7 - In the densely populated market of first person shooters and the single player not being one with huge replay value it really depends on how dedicated the player is to the multiplayer.

The single player is offensively horrible and a flagship example of EA's lack of understanding for narrative. But when it comes to Battlefield it's not about the narrative--it's about the online multiplayer and its amazing!

Battlefield 3's story campaign and multiplayer are two completely different games. They have the same graphic engines, controls, weaponry, and even locations--but they are nothing alike in terms of concept and enjoyment. EA/Dice attempt a low-key narrative about a soldier that uh...sits in a room and talks about past experiences that have marginally anything to do with a terrorist plot 8 hours from execution in New York City. This soldier informs his "keepers" that a man named Solomon is behind the attack. They aggressively...because aggression means drama right?...interrogate the solider about where he first heard of Solomon. We then flash back to the first real level--the vary familiar earth quake level from early demonstrations. Here, we undergo sniper scenarios, fend off an onslaught of stupid yet deadeye bad guys and deal with an IED. Not one time is the name Solomon mentioned.

If you decide to play through the campaign (I did for the trophies) then accept that the narrative just isn't there. The most important details and most exciting level is actually at the end of the game. Up until then--it's basically a series of tasks that lead to cheap deaths and aggravation. I almost broke my controller in-half more than once. Because Dice thinks good lighting means glares and lens dust don't expect to have the easiest time spotting black-clothed enemies from black backgrounds. My tactic was to stand in the open waiting to be shot so I could trace muzzle flashes to enemy locations. Your AI buddies will take the best shooting locations and then fail to do much damage. And if you take the cover assigned to them, they'll push you out of the way. Now, sharp shooting enemies that don't need to raise their guns to get head shots is one thing--but the fact that you can't trust the game to direct you to your next goal safely is unacceptable. Most the game is spent following a specific soldier. An Icon will appear over their head and you must walk within a few feet in order for the game to progress. This is quite annoying when the soldier is standing in an open field behind no cover and every attempt to reach him leads to another death. Sometimes they're on the other side of a battlefield and every enemy you kill is immediately replaced, making it near impossible to get across without dying. What's worse--the game will ask you to do illogical tasks. In the first full level, you're asked to go up on a bridge that provides no cover and man a light machine gun while all 20 bad guys shoot at you. I died 10 times in a row without even reaching the gun. Finally, I crawled to the gun but accidentally hit reload. By the time I had finished reloading, the commander was already sounding retreat... One mission has you escaping to a plane...but the game won't allow you on until your teammates have boarded first. I didn't realize this till I was blocked from boarding by an invisible wall and shot to death. On my next try--I simply laid down behind some bushes until they called for me to board. It was an absolute miserable experience.

Yet with all these miserable attempts to make exciting scenarios no moment in the single player campaign, was any where as exciting as the many memorable events of online play. I was once involved in a five minute firefight in an alleyway. Our team needed to capture the alley to allow for flanking positions on an MCOM station and the other team obviously needed that not to happen. Rockets flew over head, grenades were thrown back and forth, soldiers were dying and being revived left and right--it was amazingly intense and despite coming out on the losing end, I had more fun in those five minutes than in the entire single player campaign. Makes me wonder why they even bothered. Battlefield 3's online experience is awesome and a great update from Bad Company 2. The graphics are neater (even with PS3 doesn't get the full glory of the PC version) and the gameplay is smoother. The levels are great and allow for a wide variety of strategy and challenge. There's no room for heroes or loners--you need to work together to succeed; communication is key. This is a game for those looking to use tactic and cooperation to win. There's plenty of points to be earned without killing a single enemy (mine mostly come from heals, revives, and base captures.) Of course, that doesn't mean you won't find yourself kicking a little extra ass from one game to the next. If you're looking for a chance to just kill-kill-kill--you may want to look elsewhere. But if you're looking for an in-depth battlefield experience--here it is as the name implies--and it does not disappoint.

On PC Battlefield 3 is incredible. On the PS3, though, it feels clunky. They tried so hard to NOT be CoD that they avoided using some of the things that CoD mastered in multiplayer gameplay. I will keep playing it, but only when I need a break from MW3.

However the multiplayer experienceis much better I have had no problems finding matches and the option to use a server browser makes finding my kind of games far easier, everything in the multiplayer game seems to work very well and though it can be frustrating at times I feel that this is due to the inherent competetive nature of online shooter rather than any flaw with the game. My only real complaint here is the quality teamplay capabilities, I have only been able to form parties of up to 4 (I believe this is intentional) which is much smaller than I would like in addition to this our group was often split up apon joining matches often onto opposing teams. The quality of voice communication also leaves some to be desired it is often difficult to understand squadmate and you can only communicate with your squad. For this I must dock battlefield points. Second, is the issues on multiplayer like, unbalanced weapons, low weapon damage, game latency and last but not forgotten is the horrible respawning problem. "Unbalanced weapons" An example of this is the PP-2000 out gunning a Shotgun at close range enough said! "Low weapon damage" Nothing drives me more crazy than wasting an entire Mag on someone to kill them, I mean come on 15-31 rounds into someone standing still before they die is just stupid! "Game latency" proof of this as most people knows who have played the game is while taking fire you run for cover only to be killed once you've made it around a corner or behind an object by the same player who was shooting you to begin with. And now to the worst of them all is the awful "Respawning" for TDM. I can not count the amount of times I have been killed because I have been spawned right into the sights of an enemy and shot dead before i could even hit the run or shot button. I am giving this game a 7 because of these issues and a few others. I ama little disappointed in this game but it is better the most of its competitors and its good to see that DICE is taking the proper steps to correct these problem.

Hopefully EA reconsiders its approach to toppling Call Of Duty in the future, and allows its games to develop their own personality, rather than imitate something else.

Despite its incredible competitive online play, we can't ignore the shortcomings of its campaign and Co-Op. [Jan 2012, p.66]

The nine multiplayer maps seem to be designed specifically to let players come up with their own creative strategies. Compared to COD, this gives the player a real sense of freedom. There is no such thing as a perfect strategy or a trotten path. [December 2011, p.74]
