I love this game, without a doubt. This game doesn't try to be a AAA game, Acquire knows they aren't making one with it. The comedy has different ranges from low-brow sex jokes to high-brow sarcasm and doesn't get excessive with it. The characters might seem very 2D at first, no pun intended, but as the story unfolds they do show that they are fleshed out characters with their own reactions to things, even while fitting in classic anime the like. Music, I might say has something to be desired, as well as other stuff such as partner AI and some glitches I've seen, like the camera finding a light pole more interesting during a counter-strip cinematic, or moments of frame drop if too much happens on screen. Each of the girls routes while they seem similar do possess uniqueness and a story that does evoke feelings, Shion's route almost bringing me to tears myself with her sacrifice near the end and Rin's route making me feel sympathetic for a character that up until I did her route I hated and thought was a total **** A big plus for me is the length of the game, if you were to farm to Lv. 99, upgraded weapons and clothes to 999 each, do all side-missions, complete the battle arena and even outfit each other character with 999 equipment, it would take you roughly, by my estimate, 40 to 50 hrs... Excessive, right? But the game makes you actually WANT to spend all those hours slaving over farming clothes and weapons for XP and synthesis materials. The story is NOT long, though, you could finish it in roughly 5 to 6 hours unless you 999 all equipment then NG+ on easy mode, then maybe 3 to 4, maybe 5 hours. But that's enough for talking about length... My favorite thing about this game is that it takes place in a noted REAL location, not just copy-pasting an actual city map then doing a disservice to the city you imitated by renaming it some cliche catchy name that only an idiot couldn't figure out (I'm looking at you inFAMOUS, GTA). While being in a real location they took the time to put in REAL shops from the area like Maidreamin, Kotobukiya and MOGRA. Combat for this can be fun, but it can be ruined if the AI decides to spam power-moves, block constantly or the AI mobs you from multiple directions and gives you no chance to rest. The great part of combat is the most weapons have something in the move set that makes them unique. Labor #13 causes explosions as you literally ****-slap people with a missile, Combat Gloves make you headbutt the hell out of someone's shins, Boxing Gloves do legit boxing moves, Pom Poms make you cheer like it's a Bring It On movie, and so on, not counting the Partner Weapons used by other main characters like the Silver Server, Lou Igano Gloves, and Izayoi Oboro to name a few. Thankfully there is a LOT of customization ability in this game that really allows you make a character that is YOU, especially when unlocking other characters whether by clearing a playthrough or even downloading the DLC, the majority of which is FREE, except for like 2 or 3 packs. All in all, I love this game to death, I've cleared 4 times so far, and I won't ever stop playing for the foreseeable future, because it's a game that uses anime tropes, otaku culture, Akihabara and a nice cast of characters to make a compelling story that I deeply enjoy. I give it a 9.5/10.
But 9.5 isn't an option for rating on metacritic. So you know the rules of round. 0 to 4 stays on the floor, 5 to 9 moves forward in the line. So we give Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed a solid 10/10.… Expand
