Akiba's Trip is basically a giant scale jrpg based on Akihabara, the anime and video game mecca of Japan. Basically, if you haven't heard of Akihabara before now, then skip this game because you'll not understand all the classic anime and Japanese pop culture references and tropes here period.

Akiba's Trip is basically a giant scale jrpg based on Akihabara, the anime and video game mecca of Japan. Basically, if you haven't heard of Akihabara before now, then skip this game because you'll not understand all the classic anime and Japanese pop culture references and tropes here period.

Whilst the game isn't exactly perfect, with some crash/bug issues and even some technical problems such as frame rate loss on the PS3 the game provides enough entertainment and things to find and explore that most of the problems seem minor by comparison, exploring an accurately mapped Akiba is an amazing experience, many of the famous stores like Gamers, Club Sega and many others are accurately recreated, as well as the multitudes of maid cafes and of course the varied people walking around town ranging from the typical 'average' people to maids and school girls. Personally, the game would be even better if you could actually enter all the major buildings and explore them but sadly all the stores you can visit just have store front menus, but still some of the menus have cute or well known characters such as Dejiko (Gamers Mascot) to greet you.

The combat system is rather similar to the Kingdom Hearts series, but with the twist of actually stripping down your enemies so the light of the sun will destroy them, basically the enemies are vampire types which have infested Akiba and its your job to protect the town, add in tons of side missions and a massive amount of customization both in weapons and clothing, and you have yourself a nice little game, unfortunately like I mentioned earlier in the review - unless your an otaku or anime fan, most of this game you're not going to enjoy or understand - and that is the major problem, but if you are the otaku type expect to see huge amounts of popular Japanese culture right up close, even many references to popular characters - expect to see advertisements, I saw adverts for Hyper Dimension Neptunia, Genshiken and many others and as you explore, the feeling of exploring and hoping to find the next 'cool' areas makes the game so much better.

This game is an interesting game with an interesting concept. Akiba's Trip Undead and Undressed can crosses the line if perviness at times and at the same time the gameplay mechanics are not the best. This game is solid and can offer over 10 hours of single player madness and fun.

The humor is great and the story is surprisingly interesting. Unfortunately, the gameplay, while original, is extremely simple and grows repetetive very quickly. Character art also leaves a lot to be desired, with most characters having only a couple of expressions and only one animation for talking.

A wonderful tribute to Japanese pop culture. [01/2015, p.83]

Although there’s a niche that will no doubt revel in the game’s eccentricity, those who cringe at otaku culture will find very little value here.

Akiba's Trip offers a cool concept in which the player has to undress people in the streets of Akihabara in order to unmask vampires. A bit kinky, and a funny beat'em all, but the technical aspect is so badly made that it definitely ruins everything the game could have had in terms of appeal.
