Akiba's Trip is a pretty funny action rpg. Lots of cute japanese stylings in what I'm told is a very accurate map of Akihabara. The combat is simple and the fun comes from finding new gear and upgrading them, if you like games with accessories and new outfits and like rpgs, this is probably a good one to pick up.

Akiba's trip is a truly great game, once you get past the initial shock of defeating enemies by stripping them, the story is well written and allows the player to affect the final outcome, the dialogue is well written but the cut-scenes could be improved. it is a game that i started with low expectations but the game with it's love-able characters, great story and witty has put it in myAkiba's trip is a truly great game, once you get past the initial shock of defeating enemies by stripping them, the story is well written and allows the player to affect the final outcome, the dialogue is well written but the cut-scenes could be improved. it is a game that i started with low expectations but the game with it's love-able characters, great story and witty has put it in my all time top 5 games. the mark of a good game is that you are so immersed in the game that you do not wish it to end and when it does you can't wait for the sequel and in my opinion Akiba's trip fulfils both of those Expand

Akiba's Trip is basically a giant scale jrpg based on Akihabara, the anime and video game mecca of Japan. Basically, if you haven't heard of Akihabara before now, then skip this game because you'll not understand all the classic anime and Japanese pop culture references and tropes here period.

Akiba's Trip is basically a giant scale jrpg based on Akihabara, the anime and video game mecca of Japan. Basically, if you haven't heard of Akihabara before now, then skip this game because you'll not understand all the classic anime and Japanese pop culture references and tropes here period.

Whilst the game isn't exactly perfect, with some crash/bug issues and even some technical problems such as frame rate loss on the PS3 the game provides enough entertainment and things to find and explore that most of the problems seem minor by comparison, exploring an accurately mapped Akiba is an amazing experience, many of the famous stores like Gamers, Club Sega and many others are accurately recreated, as well as the multitudes of maid cafes and of course the varied people walking around town ranging from the typical 'average' people to maids and school girls. Personally, the game would be even better if you could actually enter all the major buildings and explore them but sadly all the stores you can visit just have store front menus, but still some of the menus have cute or well known characters such as Dejiko (Gamers Mascot) to greet you.

The combat system is rather similar to the Kingdom Hearts series, but with the twist of actually stripping down your enemies so the light of the sun will destroy them, basically the enemies are vampire types which have infested Akiba and its your job to protect the town, add in tons of side missions and a massive amount of customization both in weapons and clothing, and you have yourself a nice little game, unfortunately like I mentioned earlier in the review - unless your an otaku or anime fan, most of this game you're not going to enjoy or understand - and that is the major problem, but if you are the otaku type expect to see huge amounts of popular Japanese culture right up close, even many references to popular characters - expect to see advertisements, I saw adverts for Hyper Dimension Neptunia, Genshiken and many others and as you explore, the feeling of exploring and hoping to find the next 'cool' areas makes the game so much better.

This game is an interesting game with an interesting concept. Akiba's Trip Undead and Undressed can crosses the line if perviness at times and at the same time the gameplay mechanics are not the best. This game is solid and can offer over 10 hours of single player madness and fun.

The humor is great and the story is surprisingly interesting. Unfortunately, the gameplay, while original, is extremely simple and grows repetetive very quickly. Character art also leaves a lot to be desired, with most characters having only a couple of expressions and only one animation for talking.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love this game, without a doubt. This game doesn't try to be a AAA game, Acquire knows they aren't making one with it. The comedy has different ranges from low-brow sex jokes to high-brow sarcasm and doesn't get excessive with it. The characters might seem very 2D at first, no pun intended, but as the story unfolds they do show that they are fleshed out characters with their own reactions to things, even while fitting in classic anime the like. Music, I might say has something to be desired, as well as other stuff such as partner AI and some glitches I've seen, like the camera finding a light pole more interesting during a counter-strip cinematic, or moments of frame drop if too much happens on screen. Each of the girls routes while they seem similar do possess uniqueness and a story that does evoke feelings, Shion's route almost bringing me to tears myself with her sacrifice near the end and Rin's route making me feel sympathetic for a character that up until I did her route I hated and thought was a total **** A big plus for me is the length of the game, if you were to farm to Lv. 99, upgraded weapons and clothes to 999 each, do all side-missions, complete the battle arena and even outfit each other character with 999 equipment, it would take you roughly, by my estimate, 40 to 50 hrs... Excessive, right? But the game makes you actually WANT to spend all those hours slaving over farming clothes and weapons for XP and synthesis materials. The story is NOT long, though, you could finish it in roughly 5 to 6 hours unless you 999 all equipment then NG+ on easy mode, then maybe 3 to 4, maybe 5 hours. But that's enough for talking about length... My favorite thing about this game is that it takes place in a noted REAL location, not just copy-pasting an actual city map then doing a disservice to the city you imitated by renaming it some cliche catchy name that only an idiot couldn't figure out (I'm looking at you inFAMOUS, GTA). While being in a real location they took the time to put in REAL shops from the area like Maidreamin, Kotobukiya and MOGRA. Combat for this can be fun, but it can be ruined if the AI decides to spam power-moves, block constantly or the AI mobs you from multiple directions and gives you no chance to rest. The great part of combat is the most weapons have something in the move set that makes them unique. Labor #13 causes explosions as you literally ****-slap people with a missile, Combat Gloves make you headbutt the hell out of someone's shins, Boxing Gloves do legit boxing moves, Pom Poms make you cheer like it's a Bring It On movie, and so on, not counting the Partner Weapons used by other main characters like the Silver Server, Lou Igano Gloves, and Izayoi Oboro to name a few. Thankfully there is a LOT of customization ability in this game that really allows you make a character that is YOU, especially when unlocking other characters whether by clearing a playthrough or even downloading the DLC, the majority of which is FREE, except for like 2 or 3 packs. All in all, I love this game to death, I've cleared 4 times so far, and I won't ever stop playing for the foreseeable future, because it's a game that uses anime tropes, otaku culture, Akihabara and a nice cast of characters to make a compelling story that I deeply enjoy. I give it a 9.5/10.

But 9.5 isn't an option for rating on metacritic. So you know the rules of round. 0 to 4 stays on the floor, 5 to 9 moves forward in the line. So we give Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed a solid 10/10.

A wonderful tribute to Japanese pop culture. [01/2015, p.83]

Although there’s a niche that will no doubt revel in the game’s eccentricity, those who cringe at otaku culture will find very little value here.

Akiba's Trip offers a cool concept in which the player has to undress people in the streets of Akihabara in order to unmask vampires. A bit kinky, and a funny beat'em all, but the technical aspect is so badly made that it definitely ruins everything the game could have had in terms of appeal.
