Very disappointing expac. Been playing since 2005 and have enjoyed most of what Blizz has done. However this one had me quit within a few weeks. No longer fun, no longer a true MMO or even RPG. Complete fail IMO.

Listen, I love me some Blizzard games. And I really wanted to like this one. Here I am, almost 2 months of play time into the expansion, and I've decided to cancel my subscription.

Here's the problem - this expansion would probably be a great singleplayer game, but as an MMO, it's underwhelming. Once you do your quests, it's over, that's it. Hang out in your garrison all day in

Here's the problem - this expansion would probably be a great singleplayer game, but as an MMO, it's underwhelming. Once you do your quests, it's over, that's it. Hang out in your garrison all day in trade chat and wait for your dungeons/LFR to pop.

They totally trashed professions, which removed my desire to level any alts. There is little-to-no appreciable daily content to speak of, which is a bit of a blessing and a curse, but mostly a curse, IMO, because there's nothing to do. They took out Justice/Valor Points, so no steady gear progression, it's all RNG. Garrisons were a neat idea but overall pretty underwhelming.

And the bugs, oh lord, the bugs. To me, this expansion really throws off some bad signals with the bugs, and the fact that there's a whole zone that's been closed off since launch. I hope I'm wrong, but the signal I'm getting is that Blizzard released an unfinished product, which is very much not like them to do. If this is a sign of things to come, I may have to turn in my Blizzard fanboy membership card.

I might resubscribe later after a content patch or two, provided they add some actual content to the game, but I guess I'll have to wait an see. In the meantime, they won't be getting my subscription dollars.

Well, what Can I say about this...
WoW lore is great - for that thumbs up,
Rest of the stuff - same, same, same, same...
Blizzard should close all the server and build whole new game. Loyal gamer will wait for new better WoW.

This is the expansion where I depart from WOW permanently. The game has been dumbed down for the next generation of gamer's and the loyal fans get it in the neck. The only experience I have taken from this franchise in the past 3 years is blatant marketing. This has killed the magic of the story and lore, which I actually cared about. The community has also become worse since the server merges, gone are the days where you need someone to fill that last raid spot and the under geared guy that's never raided gets a shot. While I've rated this expansion a 3, my overall rating for World of Warcraft continues to drop below that.

Warlords of Draenor adds in a few extras to WoW. Most noticeably the level cap increase from 90 to 100, the new garrison (which further destroys the auction house), and the new continent of Draenor to explore. You're also now granted a bonus character boost to level 90 (one time use) so you can skip all of the earlier WoW content and get right down to business.

So why is it rated so low? Because it hasn't improved WoW any. All this expansion really does is toss the player more things to do and collect. WoW used to be about conquering the enemy and trying your best to push yourself through epic raids. Now it's become nothing more of an achievement gathering, "pokemon" playing, raid soloing, dumbed down shadow of it's former glory.

World of Warcraft itself is a fairly broken game, thanks mostly due to all of it's expansions. Call me nostalgic, but back in it's glory days it was a game that drew you in and forced you to be the best you can. You had to organize and plan for weeks if you wanted to take on some of the heaviest challenges the game had to offer. Everyone's goal was to be a part of "40-man" raids. That drove guilds to recruit , work as a group, and focus on improving and leveling their guild mates. Hunters had to carry food for their pets and work hard to level them, but not anymore. Ranged characters had to carry ammo, but not anymore. Warlocks had to gather and carry souls, but not anymore. The list goes on...

Today there's virtually no reason to be in a guild on WoW. With the expansion, jumping a character to level 90, virtually all of the content prior to the Pandaria addon is soloable (depending on your class and skill). With my druid I've simply walked through 25 person heroic raids, 1-hit killing most mobs, without ever stopping to heal. That said, if you decide to play a character right from level 1 up to 100 you'll end up frustrated (on PVP servers) by the number of level 100's hunting new players the second they leave the 1-10 zones. This game has truly lost it's edge.

If you've always wanted a max-level character and have never been able to achieve that goal then go ahead and get this expansion (if you can justify the cost). Otherwise I'd say skip it. You'll only be leveling for about a week to get from 90 to 100, as everything has been dumbed down so a 6-year old can be an "epic player", and after that there isn't much to do but play "pokemon", tend your garrison, cross off achievements, and go back to leveling your other characters.

TL:DR - This expansion makes WoW even more solo-friendly and it's 1-week worth of new content isn't even close to being worth the price tag you have to pay.

Not alt friendly at all. Extremely repetitive, especially Garrisons. Advertised as something amazing but it is a phased loot shack. Classes not fun to play (anymore). And as usual Dungeons, Raiding and PVP is boring very fast same as usual, different skin. WoW lost its prime a very long time ago.

This expansion does indeed bring me very mixed feelings. At an initial glance the expansion offers a variety of enhancements to the old questing part of the game - that is, if you, like me, divides the game into two phases: the levelling and the end game.

    - The levelling part sure has improved from the previous expansion, MoP. More dramatic, more entertaining and slightly more challenging. The incentive to go exploring has increased with its rewards lurking in the shadows, hiding in the corners, or staring right into your inferior-geared toon. What they did to rare spawns intrigued me a bit: shared, yet only gives rewards the first time around. With treasures lying around and rares waiting to be slain, the advancement of your toon becomes a little less tedious. Come on, we all know the questing isn't why we play: it's the end game content.

    - Garrisons are a much necessary installation to world. If you want to have something to obsess about, your garrison is the way. It's a neatly contsructed addition that goes greatly along the questing and becomes the slight break from killing, looting, talking, and repeating that you may need. Albeit, if you have the slight tendency to obsess, Garrison-management can become quite the obstacle and hindrance in your progression. However, with the introduction and management of the Garrison comes a huge downside: your personal professions of choice. The fact that you can gather materials for crafting in your garrison, makes the farming-part of gatherers obsolete. Mining and herbalism has been reduced to mere means of getting additional resources beyond your garrison - which will not be necessary. Back when professions once had bonuses to offer, I chose to use blacksmithing and jewelcrafting, and have my warrior gather the raw materials for it. I liked the extra socket slots and better sockets in combination. That would've been awesome if they hadn't removed those bonuses. One upside is, my paladin is now self-sufficient. omnom?
This is a rather huge flaw in the game. Gathering was considered a great source of gold.. threw that one right out the window, eh.

Alright, so we have the questing and garrison part, including the crafting. Two huge intruments of stimuli for aggressive obsession and possibly great annoyance.

Let me move on to level 100.
    - Reaching that certain level was indeed the feeling of achievement. Or so I thought untill I noticed just how imprisoned it felt within the garrison. To unlock the remaining dungeons a certain item level was required - which I only expected from heroic dungeons. However, it became a chore to uptain the remaining item levels. It led to be one of the slowest starts on end game I have ever encountered in an expansion.. So two ways to uptain the itemlevels required for dungeons: crafting (which is very limited at the time) and clearing the last zone for items. A slow start for an endgame when the early part seemed so explosive and dynamic? Quite frankly a bit of a let down.

    - an upside to the endgame is the dungeons and heroics: they can prove to be quite a challenge! Boss fights employed with more imaginative and unique skills makes for great challenge and feeling of hard-earned rewards. That part they nailed. Mythic raiders have something to look forward to!

This expansion has brought a multitude of different impressions. As mentioned - for me they were mixed. Awe-inspiring, exlosive questing and cinematics, combined with challenge made it interesting to level again. The end game content, whilst slow at first, made up for it and rewarded me with great fun and sence of ingame accomplishment.

The uber downside of this expansion is the absolute reuse of content. Draenor is not unique, nor is the iron horde orcs. Blizzard pursued the success of Siege of Orgrimmar raid and created an expansion with reused material and a theme seen before. MoP and the Sha had a more unique sense to it.
After 10 levels, the orc race is rather dull. The amazing feeling the expansion brought quickly fades as the endgame is reached and every dungeon and heroic version is defeated. Now raiding content sure is anticipated by many players. Future patches will surely reveal if it was worth the wait and money invested.

So in conclusion: good expansion, but it seems heavy and slow paced - and it most certainly does not bring back the vanilla feeling, at all.

LFR is a joke! Seriously, Dungeons that give 630 item level items are far more challenging than LFR that gives 640 for no effort - yes, unless you are main tank, you can afk, come back and get your 640 loot.

The community and RPG elements are still absent from the game. It is an Arcade game unless you join a Hardcore Raiding Guild and try not to get bored doing same content on different difficulty levels.

My advice - just play it for 1 month, enjoy questing and dungeons and then leave.

This is kinda lame. Yes its a good expansion overall, but lets take a closer look. You are paying for this, a expansion with re-texture races (really thats the best you can do Blizz? And a lot of "useless" content.
The problem I have with this, is that we are talking about Blizzard. In my opinion, Blizz is the best company in videogames, and they are just lazy with WoW at this moment.

Blizzard removed a major feature of the game without telling its customers. Told us it would come in a patch then almost one month in told us no, they weren't adding it in a patch: after it was already too late to get a refund. They are dishonest and don't care about their customers. They are just a cash cow run by Activision now.

In game professions are now almost useless and 2 of them are now completely useless (herbalism and mining). Randomly generated stats should have never been introduced in an MMO. There is no longer any meaningful incentive to run 5 man content every day. Reputation grinds are just that, grinds that offer meaningless rewards.

The short of it is, there really is to do anymore in WoW is raid and play garrisonville. You log in every day, collect work orders, start new work orders, send followers out on missions that take anywhere from 45minutes to 24 hours, then log out.

Garrisons were also fun to start with but just ended up being a pain in the butt to keep running follower missions. So far I think I spent 70% of this expansion standing around in my Garrison waiting for something or other. While I don't PvP I did progress up to Mythic Highmaul but doing the same bosses on 3 different difficulties really got old fast.

Sadly the community is still the biggest downfall of this game. Maybe I'm just getting too old for this game but the maturity of people seems to have dropped to a new low. I'm far from easily offended but I permanently left General chat on my server because the amount of crap that people came up with was just unbelievable.

Overall this is just a watered down version of what the game used to be with multiple difficulty settings for raiders and the same old epeen stroking rubbish and queues for PvP'rs.

I guess we wait another 2 years to see if they improve on it or water it down more for the new generation of MMO players.

Warlords of Draenor's questing is quick, painless, and does a good job at conveying the story, and as usual, Blizzard's art team takes what little they have to work with on WoW's old engine and makes it shine in a huge, surprising way. Yet gameplay wise there is so much left to be desired.

So many abilities stripped away, so much of the "world" becoming a simple, linear experience, professions becoming useless, the majority of the game revolving around instanced content... it makes World of Warcraft feel like less of a world than ever before.

WoW still has a good framework, and I'll always love the world itself, but its implementation and its single minded approach to become more and more routine, strict, and linear have turned me off to the game. I have heard this expansion as being hailed as a "return to the roots", yet nothing could be further from the truth. I question if these individuals experienced the early years of WoW pre-Cataclysm, and even pre WOTLK.

You cannot sum up WoW by any one expansion, as the game changes slowly over a period of time, but Warlords of Draenor left me cold. I suspect this will be the last WoW chapter I purchase.

So the main question is game so different after new expansion? I would have to say not really. Same problems endless grinding either for honor, gear and reputation. Also because reputation works for each toons separately so consider carefully which class you want to get level 90 unless you want to torture yourself by either leveling garbage 80-90 or waste 50 euros to level boost. Also these follower and missions are largely copied from other mmo games such as SWOTR. So nothing new there.
Little bit upgraded character graphics and animations. Decent expansion but really stinks pay to get full access unless you're been good fanboy and happened to have all toons at level 90. Forget about exploring and finding quest givers, and selecting the quests that interest you and building your own adventure. I miss the days when the Warcraft world was wild, mysterious, and a bit scary--when you could explore the wondrous yet dangerous world and stumble upon little-known, random quest givers in the remotest corners of a zone.

The garrison is gimmicky, rubbish content that has no place in WoW. Worse, the garrison is in no way optional, as Blizzard has made it the hub of this expansion.

Blizzard really needs to get the A-Team developers back on WoW development. This release is boring, has no depth, and abuses phasing technology.

And that is not a good thing, not at all. WoD is almost a single player game for the entire leveling part which kind of beats the purpose of MMORPG and when (if) you start raiding the difficulty only spikes at heroic/mythic but does so quite heavily.

Questing is still the same Kill X foozles/Bring Y **** but quite easy and devoid of story. Sure, you can build outposts and get different abilities for the zone that outpost is in but ultimately do you care about that if you're going to spend 4 hours overall in the entire zone? Yes, levels fly quite fast, while plots can be summarized as "I killed a bunch of innocent animals and evil orcs, then X happened and I was sent off to the next zone".

Professions have been butchered. No more fun gadgets from engineering, no silly potions from alchemy, everything is hidden behind daily cooldowns and requires materials from other professions which you do not even need to buy. Your garrison provides enough materials for your daily cooldowns. So you do not need to visit the auction house or pay attention to other people at all.

The Garrison is Farmville. To send followers on missions or to check the mission results you have to actually visit the Garrison. And with missions lasting for around 1 hour you're on a very short leash. Also you get daily dungeon quests and profession orders. Sitting all alone in your own little instanced Garrison.

A lot of combat abilities have been cut too. Along with any kind of choice or room for error. Just press all your buttons and it will be good.

The big problem is that accessibility curve has been flattened heavily. In BC running heroic dungeons required good gear and actual skill at playing your character. So beating a heroic felt like an accomplishment. In WoD heroics and normal raids are almost (but not quite) unchallenging. So to feel any kind of accomplishment you'll have to diligently raid mythic for 4-5 days a week because everything else is accessible to 90% of the population. And that 4-5 days a week is a really heavy investment.

The new continent are much smaller than expected and doesnt reflect the warcraft universe as i hoped. It looks cheap and boring and even nagrand was a let down.

This game was once a huge world to discover, now its just a complete rush about itemlevel or nobody gonna let you join up for groups. So as i said, its dumbed completly down.
The personality of the community has become horrible. The social part of this game is a catastrophe, the behaviour of the players sounds like you are in the middle of a civil war in your own domain.

The funfactor got instantly zero'ed after reaching max level and completed the first raid half way through.
the pvp i like its always been, full og bot's and horrible skilled players blaming everyone else.
The arena part of the game consists of tons of players claiming they have experience with 2500+ rating in arena.
Everyone is full of lies and rage and the game itself cannot maintain what it promised.
there is barely nothing to do besides joining a random group killing monsters over and over.

im sorry, but blizzard have lost most of the people worked on wow back in days, if anyone expect the game to keep its charm, they are stupid.

Blizzard promised it would learn from its mistakes and give us an ample amount of content. At first I believed this. Leveling in WoD was pretty good, yet end game content is a completely different story. There's only 8 dungeons, 1 raid, no new races, no new classes, and no new battlegrounds or arenas. I turned to pvp, as that's my favorite thing in WoW, only to realize it's a broken mess. Then I went to Ashran, only to realize it's an abomination. I had hoped 6.1 would fix all of these problems, only to realize the only new content they introduced was a selfie stick(really?) and a rehash of the 8 dungeons that came out this expansion. This truly shows how little Blizzard cares about its fans to me. Everything they promised to us was empty, and once again we're faced with no new content. This expansion doesn't deserve my money, therefor I've unsubscribed from the game. I doubt WoW will be alive for much longer if Blizzard keeps this up. Expand

It's worth noting that on Launch Day World of Warcraft was hit with what is referred to as a DDOS attack, this is a network hack that causes massive spikes in lag during game play and renders some of blizzard's overlapping maps corrupted. Blizzard has since repaired all of the issues and now offers subscribers 5 free days for the mishap (You may think "So what that's like $3" but $3 to every person that bought the game on or before launch date and you've got yourself a company that actually gives a crap.)

Questing: The questing is vastly more spread out and actually has you roaming more quickly throughout the entire zone rather than constantly coming back to the same village in the far northeast EVERY SINGLE TIME. ( I believe this helps the whole non-flying thing)

I loved reading the reviews that bashed on Blizzard not having "Flying" in the new world yet. You can't bash the game for both making the game easier and making it harder by not letting you fly to your designations. You have all the resources you need in your back yard of your new personal garrison and it can't possibly hurt you to actually run around for a change. KEEP IN MIND FLYING HAS NOT BEEN REMOVED IN THE ENTIRE GAME ONLY IN THE NEW ZONE RENDERING THE COMPLAINTS EVEN MORE CHILDISH

Environment: So far, after spending hours in 4 of the new zones I conclude that they really listened to us when we said we like environments that are both interactive and larger-than-life at the same time. By finally adding some new races rather than newly labeled re-colored boars and murlocs they've caught the attention of travelers that have previously been driven sick from the grind of the same old same old.

While we can all tell that Blizzard is dumbing down the game of WoW and it will never be at it's peak Grind-revolved difficulty as it once was. We can revel in knowing that Blizzard is doing this to open more people's eyes to the game that is World of Warcraft and it's end-game content (Which is easily 75% of the fun of the game)

Imagine the last time you wanted to get a friend or two to play this game and they started anew only to get sick of the **** grinding to highest level and quit on you. THIS IS WHY BLIZZARD MAKES IT EASIER. I can't imagine the amount of times I've said "Just stick it out man, i promise it gets better End-Game"

The Personal Garrison is one of the biggest, nicest, new features that they've unveiled in this new add-on and I must say it's a great breath of fresh air when it comes to questing in a new land. It's clear the Blizzard's goal was to keep you in this new area for nearly the entire game and the Garrison lets you have a literal home of your own right in the middle of the action (In other words, you leave your garrison and enter a zone full of Warfare and Hostiles in Frostfire Ridge.

Lore Related Question: How many people here liked the fact that throughout saving the world multiple times in Azeroth you are regarded among a lot of key Lore figures as "Hero" or "Commander" but for some reason never actually had anyone to order around? Like they love that you save the day but never really accept you, right? NOW YOU'VE GOT PEOPLE TO BOSS AROUND. Not just that, these people have professions, rarities, and specific abilities to help you plan your missions to get the greatest success rate and reward possible. So while you're out questing and doing what you do best you can rest assured that moves are being made back at home too! Not to mention the garrison fishing shack, garden, mine, and plots for beneficial buildings that you can personalize to make easier the way you like to play! For Instance, I don't need a bank in my base because I don't store all that much stuff but I love having a tavern with daily adventurers for extra dungeon quests.

This being said, I believe this is the best Expansion since Wrath of the Lich King and hope that Blizzard learns from some of the logical bad reviews, while sifting through the fake reviews and simply toxic people, moving forward. 8/10 in my book!

Leveling - very well done, I look forward to 90-100 on my alts, only if 1-90 would not be that bad... but they need to sell those boosts right?

End game at 100 - failure overall:

    - 5 mans are good but are useless faster than light (lack of rewards)

    - LFR is nice but takes 30 min tops

    - Garrison is most simple facebook game

    - Daily, reputations, garrison invasions: pure korean mmo grind, are you serious?

    - Ashran, PvP zone I had huge hopes on is massive failure, you can't even get in in reasonable time frame

Overall it was nice 60 days, but level 100 content feels kinda like beta. Therefore like always I voted with my wallet and will be back when more content is added and current issues are fixed.

P.S. WoD launch will be forgotten but never forgiven. I will never buy any WoW expansion until I see on forums it is OK - and I was there for TBC and WOTLK launch days. Real shame on Blizzard for that.

For better or for worse, I've been a subscriber since January of 2005 and seen the roller coaster of changes for the last near decade. It is my considered opinion that this is, without a doubt, the worst I have ever seen the game.

Let me state this up front: I have been fortunate in that I wasn't plagued with server queues and server crashes and now have multiple characters at level 100 so my disappointments have nothing to do with connections. I'll try to keep it short and sweet:

    - The story is the equivalent of a Michael Bay film: Barely passable plot, best if you turn off your brain and just enjoy the spectacle while you ride the rails. It legitimately feels like they simply had no ideas and figured they could try to rekindle the fan favorite of Burning Crusade by pulling some timey-wimey stuff and send us back to Draenor.

    - So much recycled stuff, even the music. Every piece of music from Burning Crusade is recycled in Draenor. Some may defend this by claiming that Draenor is, after all, just Outland but it was supposed to be a DIFFERENT experience. When I'm running around hearing the exact same Nagrand or Blade's Edge music that I heard 7 years ago.. well, color me annoyed.

    - Garrisons: This is now the end all, be all of professions and it's terrible. Take one part Facebook timed resource management game, one part MMO, and one part RTS and you have Garrisons. Professions that once stood alone (like Tailoring) now rely on multiple other professions just to make gear that is outclassed by normal and heroic dungeon gear. Professions are so dumbed down (especially jewelcrafting, inscription, and enchanting) that people who played to max their professions will find themselves bored within a week.

    - No flying: I know there's a love/hate thing within the community on this, but I look at it this way: They claimed they wanted to remove flying to promote interaction and exploration... but at level 100, there's no reason to go back hunting for rares because you can only loot them once per character, so you end up sitting alone, in your PHASED garrison, sitting in queues for dungeons or chatting in guild chat. It doesn't seem removing flying has forced people to be more "interactive"... imagine that. /s

    - Class balance is the worst I've seen it, ever. Especially if you play caster DPS. Every caster DPS class is at the bottom of the charts, both pure DPS and hybrid DPS. Melee balance is all over the map as well, but at least it's not nearly as bad as caster DPS.

After almost a decade, I think the game has finally passed me by. I don't know who Blizzard's new target demographic is, but it certainly doesn't seem to be the old players. Those who can see past their Draenor/Burning Crusade nostalgia goggles will, like me, be leaving sooner rather than later.

For me this expansion has so far easily been the best expansion out there and I'm thrilled I still got so much content to experience! Not being able to fly is such a great thing for me (hopefully it gets added in a few months or so though). The leveling is as complex as it should be; those who whine on the difficulty should probably wait for raid content or something. It's been years since I've been so thrilled about a game that I can't wait to get off from work to play!

Only two things I dislike in the expansion (or in WoW all together) are:
    1) Shamans suck currently
    2) My server has like +70% alliance and I'm playing horde.. I had hoped blizzard could've connected realms in a way that it would've balanced these things as my server is anyhow connected to two other realms. However all these realms seem to have the same problem so it really only made the situation worse.

This isn't a terrible expansion or game. It is also not that much fun. The garrison seemed fun at first, but then it turned into more of just a delay for me to turn my raw resources into usable ones. The game has become so simplified and watered down they used up their last chance with me.

The game has pretty much turned into solo game play. The immersion is gone. There were two reason why I gave MoP 2 points in my review. One point for the remnants of the original game still present and one for the friends still present in the game. Both are pretty much gone now. There is nothing interesting for an RPG fan anymore. The game may have positive aspects for other players that are into numbers, daily tasks and gear treadmill. But I personally see the present WoW model as a poison to the gaming industry rather then a valuable addition. The sooner the MMO genre moves away from this unhealthy model of Facebook/FarmVille games, the better for everyone involved. Sadly Blizzard is reducing this franchise into just that and nothing else. Storyline
The story is great, the cinematics are great and the raids are great. But it lacks some depth.
Yes the quests are more interactive and dynamic, they emphasize the story as well up to the garrison.
After that I found it to be a bit of a drag. Some quests are nice, fun and challenging. Most are easy and boring.

In the end it's the same as all expansions are, the grind for new gear.
At first the raids are hard, because it's all new and there are some balancing issues.
But when I started with LFR, I was surprised how easy it went (even without very good players in the raid). So after a few raids it's just a wait. Will I get a good raid group, if I have... will I get that weapon or armor I really want.

To close up, I got bored out really fast.
    1. By grinding my garrison every day, doing the same thing over and over again.
    2. Lack of interest in the new quests/area's.
    3. Getting bored with raids that are very easy to complete.

The biggest con is: the atmosphere and players are still great and the removal of so many useless skills/spells has helped the game a lot (as well as the stat. crush)
But I feel Warlords of Draenor lacks depth...

    So 6/10.

It has become a hunt to clear content in the first few weeks or to be one of masses that run through lfr's to pick up loot that's at that point worthless. The immersion is gone - and instead of fixing the problem they take out flying, claiming to fix the lack immersion that way.
Also the community in the game has gone to completely disgusting. The amount of stupid and just disgusting profanity has risen to an almost permanent condition. People who complain are being belittled and accused of being the problem instead of those who display the inappropriate behavior.
It seems that the majority of the player base consists of barely literate, rude and low class teenagers (or those who got stuck in a high-school mentality even though they progressed in years).

I loved the game. Sometimes I feel almost homesick. But I stopped playing about a year ago and haven't gone back. I don't feel like wanting to go back.

I guess if you don't care for profanity littering your chat window and if you think true gaming is to push buttons fast it's your game. If you look for intelligent and fun ways to immerse yourself in a different world it isn't anymore.

Blizzard invested so much in getting more new players and bringing back old players and told everyone to be there when WoD expansion starts. Well, i was one of those people waiting online for the moment WoD gets activated but guess what, the moment WoD got activated Blizzard servers weren't there for people to play, they just went down!

Now to move on to the expansion itself. The game play experience has been made more linear and easier. There is no more originality to the game. For example dwarf used to dwell in the mountains, night elves in the forst and so on but no more. For example every alliance race get the same garrison that looks like human structures. To be brief here is what i think about WoD so far:

    Pros:
    - The lore has come back, no more Pandas
    - Nice environmental visuals and details

    Cons:
    - Very bad launch experience, WoD being unplayable for at least 5 days and high waiting queues and random dropouts after that
    - Racial traits and in game visuals related to each race are gone making it pointless which race you have chosen, for example every alliance race gets the same "Human Base Looking" garrison
    - Character game-play has been dumbed so much there is hardly any complexity to it. All different character types feel the same having 2-4 key rotations.
    - Quests are linear and no fun, plus having the new quest guide system you hardly need to read what the quest is about.
    - Professions are completely destroyed, nothing like they used to be. They are now all the same, using single materials and high daily cooldowns. They are even more pointless during leveling your char.
    - No central towns in Draenor like Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Shattrath and etc... You just get a garrison which only you and some mindless NPCs are walking around.
    - Everything is so tied to garrisons making the game experience much like browser-based or cellphone games. I can't shake the feeling that I'm playing "Clash of Clans" instead of World of Warcraft.
    - Guild leveling is gone as well as many guild perks. Another hit to the social aspect of the game.

    Conclusion:
Imho fun comes from learning new stuff (which comes with complexity), socializing and having freedom of action. WoW used to have them but Blizzard decided to take them away beginning from Cataclysm. TBC was the best expansion and will remain to do so. WoD is nothing compared to TBC with its awful game experience. It looks like Blizzard is deliberately destroying WoW's game experience or their game design team is very incompetent and lacking when it comes to creativity but Blizzard doesn't care. Either way the current expansion, Warlords of Draenor, is the worst ever. With Blizzard announcing that they are going to release an expansion each year, i doubt that WoW will get any better soon if ever.

The artists and designers have done a top-notch job realizing the beautiful world of Draenor and giving us interesting quests to do as we journey through it. The quests have been vastly improved from the high standard of Pandaria and you will likely be fully immersed in their lore, voice acting (there's a lot of that in this expansion), in-game cinematics, and generally better flow. Exploration is also greatly encouraged, rewarding you with rare monsters and treasure should you go off the beaten path.

They've not only improved on their questing, but have also introduced garrisons, a base that you build and expand all throughout the expansion. This experiment, which is ultimately proving to be a fun one, gives you neat stuff to do in addition to questing and also provides some more end game content for you to experience.

The obvious connection and capacity problems with the launch nonewithstanding, the only ugs I've seen are minor ones here and there, and with the exception of one for about 5 minutes, none of them were gaming breaking or prevented me from advancing.

One beef I do have with it is that the newest feature, garrisons, don't really have any cross-character management options. You'll need to spend a lot of time micromanaging each character if you want to get the most out of your garrisons. You'll also be doing missions and content multiple times to get some garrisons buildings, while others are unlocked acccount-wide. Not sure why there's a disconnect there.

This promises to be the best expansion yet. If you're a fan of World of Warcraft, I can promise you'll love this expansion. If not, it's easier than ever to get in and play using the new catch-up mechanics they've introduced in to the game to get new players up to Draenor as soon as possible.

But if you play on a low-population server like I do, you don’t notice at all past the first three hours of playing. It’s worth pointing out now that this review is for low population servers only.

When the servers launched, it was horrendously unplayable; the guy who sent you into the new expansion was missing, and when he eventually sent you through you would disconnect and end up back in Stormwind, Orgrimmar or Pandaland. The introduction zone, however, was fine, and it all seemed to be over. That is, until you hit Shadowmoon Valley or Frostfire Ridge. You’d sit in front of a hostile mob for twenty seconds before it even recognized you were there, and by the time it did notice you, another player had already killed it. This is what it was like for the first three hours of play. But there was a silver lining; the lag stopped. As soon as you got away from other players and spread across Draenor’s various zones and subzones, the lag dissipated completely; at least, it did for the low population servers. I heard terrible things from the high population servers.

If you manage to get past the three hour jam of hundreds of people wanting to do the exact same fetch and kill quests, the game becomes absolutely fantastic. I’d go so far as to say that Warlords of Draenor is the best expansion since Wrath of the Lich King. The zones are beautiful, most of the questlines are interesting and immersive, the dungeons are remarkably well designed (except the first one, screw Slag Mines) and the important NPCs are very well voice acted. I got to 100 around 6 hours ago, and encountered no problems apart from the occasional other player running through a zone aggroing all the mobs, preventing you from doing your quests for a few minutes, but it’s like that with every launch.

    Gameplay: 8/10
    Launch: 2/10
    Immersiveness: 9/10
    Graphics: 9/10

Should you subscribe? I would advise against it. I recommend buying the expansion, yes, but don’t subscribe back for a couple weeks or so. Let Blizzard fix what needs to be fixed and let players who just want to hit 100 and leave do their thing. Blizzard needs to work on their launch, but apart from that, another solid, well-rounded expansion for World of Warcraft.

Can understand the low scores rated here but they seem a bit harsh. Queue times seem to have gone to normal (on my server anyway). Dungeon queues are still high.

They're mostly just killing crap as fast as you can. There's a couple so far that make you actually think about what needs to be done. So I'm hoping that continues as I progress further into the game.

Leveling so far has been pretty quick. Thankfully you can level decently while just questing. You don't have to grind mobs or dungeons too much. Overall, this expansion is amazing.

Connection issues aside (and deducting a point for it), I'd have to say this is the best WoW expansion to play in the latter half of the game's 10 year existence! Streamlined questing never felt laborious or boring, and the stories and cinematics are both heart-string-tugging and vindiction-affirming!

I deduct another point for a few reasons: some quests were bugged and glitched in the first leveling zone, something that should have been caught by every single beta tester leveling through the game. Also, while the story thus far is more expansive and involving than I originally thought, the way they handle some characters is a little disappointing. One major character dies and is given quite the mournful reverence, another major character dies and nobody mentions it and I had to go online to be sure that they've really died. This disparity takes me out of the story a little bit, and in an MMORPG, immersion is everything.

Garrisons are an incredible new toy, even for someone who has thus far avoided playing Farmville or Clash of Clans or even the Mother Base app game accompanying Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes (and I'm a HUGE MGS fan as well). They change up the importance of professions a bit, and some feel gutted and useless now, though each profession still has enough perks that Garrisons do not provide to make the time spent leveling them feel worthwhile.

The new textures, models, and environments all lend to excellent cinematics, using both the in-game engine and pre-rendered cinematics. Some of these characters, as I mentioned before, become so endearing that you really feel their sorrow, their rage, their respect for you as a player and player character.

I've not experienced all the dungeons yet, as I've just dinged 100, though I hear they are challenging again, and the only negative is hasty players you group up with who do not respect the challenge these dungeons provide, but you can hardly hold the game accountable for its players. The Proving Grounds system is an attempt to ensure players prove their aptitude with their class before they can queue for dungeons in an attempt to create a more talented and less frustrating class of dungeon crawlers. I've yet to see if it works, but discussing the dungeons on forums seems to suggest that bad players still slip through. Perhaps Blizzard will continue down this path of forcing players to prove their worth to foster a more cooperative and friendly LFD group.

Until we see the first raid tier, the frequency of patch releases, and the furthering of the story, I'd say WoD has earned a solid 8+, with points deducted for the unfortunate but well-handled launch issues.

Server queues and lags are a rarity now. WoW is back up to 10 million players! Don't be afraid to come join us and experience an awesome expansion that surprisingly breathes life back into a franchise at risk of going stale just 6 months ago!

You are clearly on your way to make your game a big bazaar like some Korean f2p mobile game for Android. Second, the promised character boost to lvl 90. The boost was the only reason I downloaded the trial, because I hated Pandaria and didn't want to play all those crappy Chinese-themed levels EVER again, so I hoped that I could skip that nasty expansion altogether and see if the new stuff is worth a purchase. It turns out, the boost is only free for 1 character. Which means, with the rest of my characters I will need to play thru the Chinese crap, or pay 50 euro for each. In the trial they don't even give the boost, so I'm kind of forced to start with the Pandaria **** again. Now, what's with the new graphics? I had a pretty female gnome mage, and now her face is totally ugly after the graphics update, so ugly that I don't want to play this character anymore. Of all the dozen female gnome faces only 1 (the first one in the list) looks nice, the rest are ugly. So, I'm forced to drop that character which has craploads of achievements on it, or pay to change the face. Anyway, Pandaria with its Chinese crap ruined this game. And as long as that crap stays in the game and I can't skip it I'm not coming back. Expand

The 90-100 questing in Warlords of Draenor is really well done. I think the storytelling in WoW has steadily improved as Blizzard figures out new ways to tell stories within the confines of their 10 year old game. But I think they really turned a corner in Cataclysm, and as the storytelling gets better and better with each expansion.

Skimming through the quest text is enough to follow the story, since they share common threads in each zone, instead of the seemingly unrelated busy work of Vanilla and Burning Crusade. At the same time, it doesn’t FEEL like you’re tied to a rail…actually you are, but the rails are really well hidden this time around. The core quests are divided into little sectors and they’re independent enough so that there’s really no order you should do them after you clear the main areas and get quests to multiple other quest hubs. But they share common story threads from before, so it doesn’t feel like you’re just questing for questing’s sake.

All the zones are beautifully rendered and feels alive, although you don’t tend to see much other players other than near flight paths, but still each zone is vibrantly different and diverse. Having spent so much time in Shattrath in BC, it’s an awesome sight to see it in its glory, although there’s not much to do there until it turns into a quest / farming zone when you hit 100.

But the most wondrous addition to the game is a single character: Khadgar. The bland old man who just stands in one place is gone: the new Khadgar is wry, mischievous and funny, while being kick-ass at the same time. For example, in the expansion opener, the climax is when Khadgar breaks open a large dam to flood the entire region and destroy the portal leading back to Azeroth.

But at the same time, you don’t feel as if the player’s role is marginalized like in Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King, but at the same time, you don’t feel as if the player’s role is artificially inflated, like in Hyjal in Cataclysm or Siege of Orgrimmar. Khadgar spells it out for you: although he himself probably can take on anyone, including Gul’dan and Grommash by himself, he can’t take all of them at the same time, nor can he deal with the massive armies.

In Warlords, Garrison has been added as one of the main features of the expansion. It’s still not player housing, though. It kinda works a lot like one of those Facebook games, just that you’re in the thick of it interacting instead of looking at it top down. And just like those Facebook games, working on your garrison is incredibly addictive, at least for your first character, although mileage may vary.

Of course, with any games, there are always shortcomings, no matter how enjoyable they are, and Warlords of Draenor is no exception. The biggest in my book is that the game feels rather…unfinished. As if we’re playing a beta instead of an actual release. Also, the end game is rather unfocused and thin when you first hit 100.

You get one daily for Apexis Crystals, the new gear currency, which is on a meter that fills up as you kill mobs in the designated zones. You also get one weekly quest to a different zone, which also gives you one additional daily meter for Aprexis Crystals. You also get a daily fishing quest and an occasional garrison event called invasions that are on a separate invisible threat table. The daily Aprexis Crystal quests themselves feel very grindy, so afterwards, I don’t really feel like doing more reputation grinding either.

I was severely disappointed with the Proving Grounds gating mechanic. I understand if Blizzard wanted to make 5 man dungeons harder and add a gating mechanic, although I don’t agree with that tactic. But if a gate was needed, surely there would be a more engaging game play than recycling the Mists Proving Grounds.

When Proving Grounds was released in Mists, it was a niche gimmick fight that wasn’t designed for the mainstream player base – I would guess that it would have appealed to less people than the Brawler’s Guild. But now it’s used as a gate to heroic dungeons dungeon finder, which presumably has a much larger audience than Proving Grounds ever had or was intended for. One consequence is that anyone who has a problem with the mechanics of Proving Grounds is excluded from an entire tier of content, where it was freely available. And in an expansion with thin end game content to begin with, it’s a big deal.

    tl;dr
Pros: Great leveling experience, varied zones, engaging storyline, cutscenes, garrisons.
Cons: Not much things to do at level 100, endgame TOO freeform, recycled content.

So many reviews of this are terrifyingly disingenuous, either complaining about the 2-day server issues which Blizzard are giving us more than double compensation for, or sycophants panting incessantly over Blizzard's lap showering them with praise.

Let's just get the server issues out of they way right away. They were unprepared, which is entirely inexcusable. They allowed server traffic to lag out every server and had to reduce server capacity because they didn't stress test the beta. But that's not a fair thing to judge the entire expansion from. They've done what they can, and thanks to glorious phasing technology, the issues are all but forgotten, with Blizzard promising anyone whose account was active as of launch 5 extra days (which, if you you add up all 10 million current subscribers, that's over $20million they're simply losing out on).

The story... well, immersive and nostalgic as it is, the story is extremely difficult to follow at times. They simply ask you to follow all of the changes from the original Draenor timeline without questioning all of the little things (and trust me, there are a LOT of little things to question). Not to mention to rather... GRRM passing of the story all within the levelling process of 90-100. If you allow yourself to look past the little details, then the characters and their development is absolutely beautiful and, in many cases, heart-warming. Even the little things, like seeing characters we knew very little about in Burning Crusade make another appearance and play a much larger role, are wonderful.

The stat squish and ability prune are much-welcomed to this expansion. As someone who plays a paladin, spending Holy Power on Inquisition every 55 seconds felt like an utter waste and made it seem as though my damage was dropping. With abilities being thrown together or added as part of a class's basic stats, your keybindings will significantly reduce and you won't have to stretch one hand over to the other side of your keyboard.

One major stipulation one could point out is that Blizzard wanted to reduce the amount of stats we had, but ended up adding convoluted tertiary stats which are nigh indistinguishable from older stats or Primary stats (e.g. Versatility increases damage and healing by x%).

The dungeons and loot systems are questionable, to be frank. Again, as a paladin, it pains me to look through the loot list and see twenty-odd of each type of armour (gloves, shoulders, etc) with stats that I don't want or need being in far greater amounts than the stats that you actually want. The easiest way to fix this is simply increase the drop chance on ones that go with your specialisation, or have stats that are given based on your specialisation. The chance of earning Warforged upgrades from Heroic dungeons, regardless of rarity, is a poor design choice, leaving one to depend on RNG more than ever to be able to do better in future dungeons and, eventually, raids. It would be much better to leave Warforged to raiding and give it an Apexis cost to upgrade pieces instead of being left to RNG.

And thus is the segue to the topic of Warlords of Draenor's new currency system, Apexis Crystals: a Timeless Coin-esque currency that is earnt in the same way: daily quests and farming mobs in specific areas (e.g. Shattrath), which are mainly used in the Legendary quest line, but are also used for purchasing of some reputation mounts. Daily, you can earn anywhere between 800-1000 from quests alone, but some can also be found from Work Orders or Garrison missions. Each mount is worth only 5000 Apexis crystals, and the first part of the Legendary quest line requires some absurdly arbitrary number in the high 4000s, so the grind is much more tolerable than the Timeless Coins were. The flexible use of this currency is nice, as those with less gold that wish to focus on upgrading their Garrison don't need to worry about a ten thousand gold cost for the Legendary item a la Cataclysm's rogue and caster Legendary weapons.

The Garrisons are... sadly very limited, offering only 2 Large plots, 3 medium plots, and 3 small plots in the tier 3 (costing 5000 gold and 2000 resources!), while you have 5 large, 8 medium, and about a dozen and a half (give or take) small buildings to chose from. The slow gathering of resources is acceptably slow, as I doubt Blizzard intended for us to reach the maximum level of Garrison and buildings within the first week. However, this is marred by the fact that you are FORCED to use specific buildings to gather resources quickly (either a Lumber Mill or a Trading Post), as treasures around Draenor seldom reward greater than a dozen resources, if at all, as do rares. The followers and missions are infuriating as the abilities they have are almost entirely up to RNG, and missions seldom match the followers.

PvP gear also has a chance to reward Warforged gear from Strongboxes, which is extremely counter-intuitive. There are no new bgs; Ashran isn't great.

There is no way i can defend paying $15 a month + base game cost + expansion cost on a single game.
All that, and they still have micro-transactions.
Really, before you pay for this **** browse through steam's store and think of all the **** you could buy for $15 a month.

This is just a great expansion. Blizzard managed to make the quest rather interesting, while keeping the story really compelling. The dungeons are fun and challenging in heroic levels.
The garrison system has been my favorite addition, now I truly feel part of the world I'm playing in.

The lag and server stability may be bothering during the launch, but I understand and don't rate this game based on that, specially since Blizz has been a target of many DDoS attacks as of late.

For everyone else complaining, let me remember you that Blizz has planned future content as with all the xpacs, stop whining. More content will arrive over time, as the severs will stabilize. Let me remember you that a game this huge can't be rated in one day.

Great game, try it before believing the immature, spoiled kids bad reviews.

Warlords of Draenor is far from perfect. It keeps a lot of the same old MMO things, raids, dungeons, questing, dailies etc. Garrison are cool but it some ways feels like Farmville where you have to check on your crops (in this case work orders) often. Garrison is ok. It is cool having a base but part of me would rather not having to worry about having one.

Blizzard buffed up the dungeon difficulty. It is fun but sometimes a bit exhausting. The personal looting system I have mixed feelings with. Sometimes I will play through a whole dungeon looting 3 gold each boss. Really 3 gold? Here is an epic boss fight and some of you died oh good job here is 3 gold. Often times I don't get gear just gold when I do get gear it is a rewarding experience.

There are a bunch of things to do at end game. Obtaining Apexis crystals, working on legendary ring quest line, dungeons, challenges, garrison, finding followers, pvp, Ashran, killing rares, finding treasures etc. I do like this. When I hit end game in Wildstar there wasn't much to do. In Warlords there is plenty which is good.

All in all I would say it is a good expansion the zones and music are beautiful and the gameplay has been simplified which I think is a good thing. Overall 8/10 at launch.

It's pretty hard to give a game a score higher than 0 when it is almost impossible to play it. Apparently after after 4 previous expansions, they still haven't quite worked out how supply and demand works.

What did you expect from blizzard anyway? When they can't even push out "normal" amount of content, "average" quality of content, why would you expect them to release expansion, yes small expansion with nearly zero bugs and zero lag?

Yes you're right, you shouldn't expect that from them. Support other mmos, pretty much anything is better nowadays.

I'm also sad it came out with the said development changes. Game is nowhere near the standard of about 5 years ago, and even the standard that was 5 years ago wouldn't be enough!! Newer mmos have achieved the quality wow could never even dream of!

WoD can be perfect and all, but for such a pityful amount of content I wouldn't give them a 5. Sadly content is far from being perfect, I'd call it average at best. But with the all horrible decisions and implentations they deserve much less than just 0.

I remember, from the past two expansions, that I had lost my interest in WoW. That my days of raiding were gone. I hadn't raided since WotlK.

I was wrong. WoD has breathed new life into the game and is the best experience I have had since BC/WotlK.

I'm excited about WoW again. I didn't think it was possible, but Blizzard has made something truly special with this expansion.

If before this expansion you were completely over WoW then this is probably not going to be a game-changer, however if you were just waiting for the MOP foolishness to go away and were waiting on some classic feeling WoW then this is certainly worth a shot.

The battlegroups should be implemented for Ashran so it's actually not a campout due to server population ratios, but that's a minor complaint.

Again, don't listen to a single red review based on queue times. They should be posted as a review on Blizzard, not WoD

My quarrel with Warlords of Draenor is that it does not define the direction for the whole game – it just refreshes it and sets it in order, which is what patches do. There’s not enough novelties and the changes (e.g. randomized loot) are hit and miss. [01/2015, p.52]
