    - Mob scaling - Pointless, no feel of progression when getting better gear, just a waste of time for everyone involved.

    - Story, some of it.

The game is still in BETA despite being called a full release, if you aren't already playing, don't comeback till 8.3 atleast, its such a broken mess in its current state.

Warfront is biggest disappointment in 9 years I have been playing- just one lengthy collect/kill quest with no fluidity and with lengthy downtime between scenarios. A lot of players queuing on the first day were bored after the first run and then began queuing and going afk to simply collect gear at the end and this tactic is escalating.

PVP, worse than ever no true pvp gear and scaling for pvp and pve that does not work (gear drop for best arena damage right now)

Azerite collecting to level neck is one continuous grind that is repeating the same WQ over and over and over(no complaints on rep grinding as eventually that repetition can be ignored)

Big class imbalances being ignored weeks in

Horrible mistakes with warfront one of which gave one faction a two week edge over another on gear and an item level put into place preventing other faction from same benefit on gearing alts
Mount for alliance consists of drab horses and more drab horses.

Lots of server downtime in the first week but this has improved for most servers.

Positive: Island expeditions. Rather new concept with various options: normal, heroic, pvp, mythic. This varies the degree of difficulty. NPC upgrade in this new segment of the game is greatly improved and feel immersive. This sort of action is what Wow needs across the board in game but this would take $, something Bliz seems to be cutting corners on when it comes to new content.

Azirite armor is bad for the plain reason you will get an upgraded piece and not be able to access any of the traits until you grind your Heart of Azeroth out... which makes your gear actually feel like a downgrad since you are scaled to everything... like for Arenas you honestly should just bank your high ilevel azirite armor so you can use the lower ilevel ones to have access to all the traits. another big issue is pretty much all the new features added to the game as well have been incredibly lack luster... Warfronts are not entertaining at all, Island expeditions I literally did once and never tried it again and then the whole way "Allied races" or sub races are being handled is honestly disappointing. Expansions will probably improve over time but its launch is a complete fecal storm. The story of the actual expansion is okay... as a Hordie questing through Zandalar was alright... like it isn't a terrible zone but also isn't a good one either. Expand

    Sigh, where do we begin?

The story drops your character into the midst of another contrived race war between the factions of the Alliance and Horde. Because we didn't have five straight years of that already with Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria.

Players are called upon to recruit new allies to the campaign with long reputation grinds in now-obsolete areas. Stubborn developers sabotage the Alliance's prospects, leaving them with underwhelming themepark mascots for some Void vs Light patch that probably won't materialize until the expansion after next. Design lead Ion Hazzikostas tells us "the Horde is there waiting for you."

But if being smugly derided with veiled accusations of Neo-Nazism for daring to suggest they finally make High Elves playable wasn't enough, Alliance players also have to deal with the developers funneling the best players to Horde for years with imbalanced racial abilities (funny how Arcane Torrent was finally "nerfed" from a silence to a dispel just in time to be faced with a ton of content that requires heavy dispelling) and then handing them a bunch of gearing advantages through the initial Warfront schedule.

But at least the questing content for Alliance is good, right? Well, sure, but after doing enough repetitive world quests to reach exalted with the three major factions on Kul Tiras, you can look forward to some 10,000g generic horses for your mount collection that look like they should have sold for 500g on a generic rep-free vendor outside of Norwington Estate.

    Moving on...

Combat at level cap is irksomely sluggish thanks to the new Azerite gearing system where three pieces of your armor will have no secondary stats, so have fun getting enough haste without mythic raid gear. The developers tried to distract from this by putting offensive buffs (and for some reason, the Ret Paladin defensive?!) on the global cooldown, which is also obnoxious.

Most of the power of this expansion-exclusive rental gear is tied up in traits that you must grind endless amounts of Artifact Power to unlock - a system that was already thoroughly panned when it was released in the previous expansion.

World mobs still scale with item level, making every trivial enemy into a damage sponge you can drill multiple finishing moves into. This was also wildly unpopular, anathema to the concept of an RPG, AND something the lead developer said they would NEVER do.

In summary, you might enjoy this expansion if you play primarily Horde and don't mind dull, slow-paced combat that never really improves even with full epic gear, but otherwise, avoid.

I bought the collectors edition and was super hyped to play. I lasted all of two weeks and was so bored out of my mind I cancelled my sub and was out the hundred dollars. I have been playing since Vanilla WoW and never have I seen such a huge failure as BFA. This entire development team should be fired and a relaunch like what Final Fantasy did needs to happen. This is unacceptable!

-The reputation rewards are just lazy, re-using the same assets for the blue's meanwhile reusing the same models for most of them on the red's. But clearly showing more care being done on the red's rewards though.
-The story centers around the red team, there is no question about it. This whole expansion starts off because of the horde and throughout the whole expansion thus far the horde continue to cause more atrocities and give the alliance more reasons to retaliate. There is no 'grey' in the storyline, horde are clearly evil and the alliance are clearly good. I don't know what the game director meant when they said it would be a grey storyline.
    - The warfront scenario is soo boring. All you do is grind resources to get siege tanks then kill boss, that's it. You also have to defend yourself from 'attack waves' and retake 'points' by just zerging down more bosses with other players and that's really it. Honestly this would of been a more interesting game mode if they just turned it into a RTS minigame instead. But since they didn't it's just zerg zerg zerg, so boring.

If you are a Warcraft fan then I'd suggest you save yourself from this dull expansion and just watch the cutscenes and storylines on yotube, you'd honestly have a more fun time watching then actually playing through this expansion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The world design is stunning, the cinema-graphics are gorgeous! Those are the highlights of the expansion.

The problems are with the gameplay, game design, and QA.

    GAMEPLAY:
The expansion instantly reverted to WQ grinds, boring island expeditions, and even more boring warfronts within 3 weeks of the expansion launching.

    - RNG is needed but it's taken over too much of the game and is being used to take the place of proper content:
The raids are fun, and M+ does provide a challenge, but the gear systems involved with those two though have just become way too RNG. They aren't even letting guilds guide loot anymore, making raiding and M+ a skinner box on steroids. With skinner boxes, there's only so many times a rat will pull a lever before it stops seeing the resulting treat to be worth the effort. Right now, RNG has tuned that lever to give drops of water instead of a trickle. For example, M+ had up to 3 drops all through beta. Then, without warning, the first chest had 1 piece. Instead of preparing the community, they replied officially that it was always supposed to be one piece of gear. When called out, Blizzard responded about bad luck protection rolls, which is even more of an insult. Not only is there RNG in getting loot, but now you've got to roll/fail on the first roll to get a weapon. That means your first roll has to fail, assuming it doesn't give you a piece you don't want or need already...then roll again and hope that roll doesn't fail or give you a weapon with stats you don't want! It's RNGxRNG to get a decent weapon in M+??? I've seen Blizzard eat crow many times, but this time...they flat-out allowed the community to be, albeit inadvertently, deceived in regards to M+ rewards by YT content creators without ever even addressing it with so much as a sentence of correction. Then they answered with a system that is atrocious! I place no fault here with the YT content creators, because the logic was solid all through beta, and the thought process was all over YT and not limited to even just a few WoW YT channels.

    - Game Design:
Blizzard is showing more and more that they don't care what the community wants, thinks, or feels in regards to their product. Just think about GCD changes which no one asked for, nor was ever really justified in a really meaningful way. The recent changes are bleeding the fun out of the game. I mean, you can't even guide your own toon's pvp gear progression anymore. It's ALL RNG! And why is it RNG, and why has 'bad luck protection' become a thing...simply put, it's because RNG and gated content is the direction Blizzard wants. It allows them to spend less creating new and high-quality content so they can opt to build-on-a-budget. They simply feel they can't generate enough quality content to keep up with the rate that players can churn through it, and so droplets of content are what we are going to get form now on. That wouldn't even be a deal-breaker except that the content that does come out is trash. I'd love to see how many people play warfronts or island expeditions in 3 months.

    - QA:
Lastly, this launch, and its following hotfixes, have been the worst since this game has been around. Not because of one big bug, but because of all of the bugs aggregated which should have easily been caught by a half-decent QA team. Every single new feature has been broken, lackluster in execution, or broken something else upon deployment. I work in software, and if our team deployed like Blizz has done since August, we'd lose customers left and right. You can't have people going into pvp and watching their mana drain passively, c'mon!

LOST THAT LOVIN FEELIN (Ion's 'No Man's Sky Approach):
All this to say that Blizzard's passion for the game is gone. The teams that brought the original magic to this game are no longer around, and Ion is constantly playing defense to justify the major problems in the culture of development and the design changes that have gotten progressively worse over the last few years. Go and read what Ion himself said on the AMA, "We see the current system as a foundation upon which to continue building".

    - More Money for Blizzcon Virtual Tickets Shows the Heart of The Matter:
Well that's great Blizzard, I can't wait to pay $50.00 instead of the normal $35.00 for a Blizzcon virtual ticket to listen to your team's next set of ideas. I also really hope that extra $15.00 gouge goes in ticket pricing is going to go to hiring back some of the original dev team who knew how to

Reputations - they were always in the game, but they were optional, if u wanted some reward they provided. But now, they are mandatory! On each new character you have to spend weeks farming the same reputation all over again, or your main piece of gear would be weak. I do not complain because farming rep is hard, it is not. It is very, very easy, but also very boring, repetitive and time consuming.

New races - one of the new, greatly advertised BFA features were new races. In advertisement: complete quest line to unlock them! In reality? Spend !! months !! farming reputations from irrelevant outdated content from previous expansion before you can start quest line to unlock new races. When I first hear this I thought it is some scam, because no one could be so stupid to implement this... but here we are.

On the other hand, new zones are great, story is great, music is great, and both dungeons and raids are great. I would really like to enjoy them, but it's kinda hard, when fundamental basics of this game are so, so broken.

Overall 2/10, unsubscribed, and because i love WoW, i am going back to private servers to play previous expansions. Yes, private servers are buggy, they might also crash sometimes, but at least the actual class gameplay is fun - and thats all that matters.

Class design which they're promised to be more "balanced" so people who want to push to mythic progression have more variety class in their roster are not fullfilled until now, take example feral class which is are now the lowest dps compared to the other class, even that class dps have more lower dps than tank, this making people who want to play feral not getting invited or must reroll to balance spec so they can keep their head up to other dps. the other example i can give maybe fire mage, where some people reroll to frost or arcane to push their progression. Holy paladin where they given a strong cooldown with aura of sacrifice now they change it with exact effect like devotion aura but worse, they also change warrior prot with lowest damage mitigation compared to other tank. i dont get the idea why they need to change playstyle some of the classes so much where that class have some positive feedback before, are they have diffrent persons to design some of the classes and they get no idea what are they doing for?

About BfA: The core experience can be saved with future patches. The ideas Blizzard made in BfA are great on paper, but didn't work out in practice. Islands are ment to be a 1 stop shop for Azerite power and with a weekly limit so you don't feel forced to grind. Yet it's a boring feature that offers nothing but repetitive gameplay. Warfronts are a missed opportunity. Azerite armor was made to keep the end game progression alive outside gearing but turned out to be a headache of chasing the best traits with limited sources & ways of doing so.

Like all MMO's you can't judge an expansion this early on, I'm sure BfA with its 77 patch day cycle will be a good expansion at the end just like Legion. Sadly the early days have been a cluster with bugs and terrible systems.

So, my new rating of this expansion is 0 and nothing will change my mind. I will leave my first review below this, because those bad things are still relevant.

I give it a 2 because its still WoW, but that's the only good thing i can say about it. 90% of the "new" main content are content from Legion that became boring after Nighthold, the other 10% are the warfronts and expeditions and they were boring the first time i did them. In the end it just became a downgraded version of Legion. The new Azerite system is boring and flawed as well.

The story is bad compared to every other expansion so far, its boring. Classes are not well balanced and most of them doesn't feel good to play at all.

I might come back and change this review in the future, but for now i can only give it a 2, because there are tons of bugs, its unfinished and i can't play for more than 10 minutes without getting bored.

The dungeons are amazing as well and Mythic + is still awesome. But people who say this is like the WoD days are overreacting.

BFA is Blizzard 7th expansion to the original World of Warcraft from late 2005, however with as mechanically bankrupt as this expansion is you could easily mistake it for an MMO produced in the early 2000s. It's little more than a shell of it's former expansions; boiled down to the lowest common denominator with next to no player agency, nuance and will less content than a single player rpg from 1991.

That's not to say that the expansion has no redeeming qualities; for an engine as dated as it is the art team absolutely nailed the feel for the expansion. The horde zones run the gambit from Bright, lush forests to barren wastes with a little dark swampy moodiness in between. The alliance side is both depressing ans spooky, setting up some fantastic world building for how the people of Kul Tiras live their lives.

However, that's where the good ends for this expansion. The shiny exterior hides the hollow shell of a game that it actually is. Not a game that was made by people that care, but one that could be mistaken as being made by a corporate office run by EA.

Story: While the Alliance side has some of the best story telling the game has ever seen the Horde side is,to avoid spoilers; sorely lacking. Characters and factions move and act illogically when compared to previous confirmed lore, even so much as completely retconning entire motivations, reasoning and culture to push a narrative that feels both forced and artificial. Each zone contains its own side story that doesn't exactly mesh well with the main narrative of the game and leaves the players constantly thinking "but what about X" only to have them grasping at straws. At best it compares well with low-tier middle school fan fiction at worst it's a broken mess that even the author of those sparkly vampire books would be ashamed of.

Sound: While nothing in BFA is objectively BAD there are quite a few instances of remixes from previous expansions strewn about. Also a multitude of poor Q&A work has led to some issues with the sound sometimes stuttering or stopping entirely, usually requiring a interface reload to fix if not a full logout sequence. Depending on zone this can be immersion breaking , depending on personal musical taste. My personal favorite is Vol'dun's music; it sings that this place is a depressing, desolate and dangerous all in one tune. Exactly like Cleveland, oddly enough.

Control: At one point wow was blessed with some of the better controls in terms of interface and timing. While it has not aged particularly well compared to others in its genre it cannot be called bad as it got the job done. However, BFA manages to take the one massive step back from Legion; the global cooldown change. While Legion combat and responsiveness will never be on par with say Tera's combat, it was still quick and to the point. Now, every single class in the game feels unresponsive , clunky and in the case of some caster classes (poor shamans) outright criminally slow. I went from combat being fluid and to the point to mistiming my attacks because of some dumb timer that's now far longer than it originally was.

Optimization: Put blankly; wow runs like hot garbage. Zones and dungeons take far longer to load than they should; even on SSD and the game under utilizes powerful video cards. While this is good for those on a budget it's not exactly good for those that want more out of their gaming experience. This continues Blizzards trend of their games running on nearly everything, but not on anything exceptionally well.

This isn't a deal breaker for most, but the engine is certainly showing it's age.

Content: As I am limited to 5000 Character I will have to make this section brief, but needless to say many parts of the game are bankrupt. Casual PVP is entirely dead as warmode did next to nothing to revitalize world pvp. The rewards are randomized, not worth the hassle and the wanted marker is reported on the map too slow to catch griefers; especially ones with stealth. Rated pvp is and always has been a mess, made even worse by randomized rewards.

Heroic dungeons are pointless as the very dull warfronts mode entirely invalidates their existence 3 week in. The same could be said for the Mythic 0 dungeons as warfronts give away epic gear as if it were candy.

The Azerite gear system is simply there to add more grind on time of grind and is far less rewarding than legions Artifact weapon system. This leaves players feeling weaker and shafted as their new drop gets an absolutely terrible random set of passive abilities they don't want.

    I could easily go on for another 10,000 words , but the shorter answer is this;

They took everything bad about legion and turned it up to 11. From the unrewarding rep grind to the invalidation of so much content early on; BFA is a dark mark on WOW,s history on par with WOD.

If 8.1 doesn't fix the problems, bail on this sinking ship and go play something more worth your time.

Former Blizzard developers were not criticized for their arrogant attitude. That's because at least they have made a great game. However, current developers who have received the legacy are dancing puddles with the vomit turned over in the trash pile.
We have been patient with patience and will soon reach the limit. Other game developers want to learn a lot from Blizzard's failure.

A quite well-made expansion, but not without flaws. If they get removed by the creators, the rating will improve. However, you won’t regret buying it. [Issue#290]

Battle for Azeroth offers everything you could expect from a World of Warcraft expansion, but its scale is visibly smaller than Legion’s and there’s no truly new quality here. All that doesn’t change the fact that the charm of this extraordinary MMORPG appeals to me almost as strongly as 13 years ago. [10/2018, p.42]

Blizzard plays it safe, incorporating few innovations while trying to salvage the lore situation of Warcraft due to its constant escalation. Despite all this, BfA remains an entertaining expansion with a lot to offer in endgame for a casual player.
