Raid is good, mythic+ are worse (too much trash between bosses leads to infuriating experience on certain modifiers), world quests are more repetitive than in legion, warfonts and expeditions are glorified group mobs farm. Rewards even **** than before, getting Invincible drop is easier than a weapon, trinkets are beyond useless.

PVP: World PvP doesn't work, low level players murder max level/high geared ones (what? why the **** Alliance is nowhere to find (at least on my server). Gear is random again.

Overall: too much randomness, class balance is worse, heavy pruning (again), added global cooldowns to every ability makes game feel retardedly clunky (as if tab targeting is not clunky enough by itself). Stay away from this one, save your money.

Big disappointment. I don't know why exactly we had to purchase it, it is basically Legion but less fun.
Stupid grindy mechanics, useless WQs and too obvious time-subscription-soaking.

They made leveling take 3 times longer, implemented a GCD on all abilities, everything is tied behind boring and tedious reputation grind, even advancing in the main story, they removed active and passive abilities that were baseline and put them in the talent "tree", made 20 reskinned horses as "new" mounts. That's just 1% of all the issues and I can write a book of all of them.

It's an expansion done on a budget with a lazy ass self-absorbed dev team who ignores all feedback and tells players to play how they tell them to play and it shows well. I was not expecting such low quality from Blizzard, but here we are. It's more important for them to scam people to give them money right away instead of thinking long term, making a good game and profit from it.

I wouldn't play it even if it was free to play. It's a dying game with dungeon queues taking more than an hour. If it wasn't for realm sharding, you would barely see anyone in the game.

If you're looking for an alternative mmo with fast paced combat, great gameplay and talent trees, instant queues and millions of players online, I recommend Neverwinter online. I quit BfA for that game and I won't return to wow unless they bring back mop class design, mage tower-like challenges and class specific questlines. When I miss wow, I just play on a Legion private server which is 1000% better than the current beta for azeroth crap.

My estimation mark is 7 because of that lags. It pisses me of, especially in raid. Expand

No new PVP (the azerite resources map is a joke). No new spells/abilities, removal of class hall usefulness. Professions are next to useless, scrapping is an awful idea. Dalaran now not a hub, the new hub also has no AH (way to go devs). Zone monster auto ivlving ruined so there's no high level and low level zone, now they are all equal, yay! gold medals for all. Nice idea in theory, in practice it simply removes the high/low level zone areas altogether.

The iLvl reduction from legion to this reminds me of everything having a similar feel to timewalking dungeons from the past, the players are all scaled no matter what their iLvl is making the dungeon tedious and frustrating.
All of the fun of becoming a super iLvl killing machine was *fun*, going back and demolishing old content was *fun*, currently it feels like the fun factor has been removed from the game alltogether.

Legion was a blast, i leveled almost every character up having fun along the way. BFA i leveled one tank and it burnt me out (tedious run after run with underpowered players by my side)

Finally over this game, the gfx are looking dated, the games fighting mechanics are boring, world quests are the same thing over and over.
Oh and all of that you have to PAY to play this is insulting to seasoned players (Feels more like a reboot with nerfs than an expac)

Still fun(ish) play through for veteran fans of the series, definately play once, then cancel sub.

Very simply put, battle for azeroth took every system from the previous expansions and made them worse. "New" additions include, a matching card game with no penalty for losing, snake, and making an already rng heavy loot system even more of a dice roll. Every fix they add is a band-aid over a broken bone. It isn't helping, it won't fix the problem, and you're only making things worse.

And at first you will pretend everything is fine, there were issues before. It is time to justify the investment. After that you might play a bit more. You have friends in game after all.

Now lets see what would be the next? It takes time to find the motivation to quit and Blizzard makes a fortune on a game that gets worse and worse every year. If at any way to try the game after launch of expansion it is a still a bad game both in the new areas and in low level content not paying a cent is far easier and far more wise than feeding Blizzard for ages.

It is a very broken game now.

Cons: Artifact weapons, legendary items AND class tier sets have all been replaced with the Heart of Azeroth and Azerite armor system. The heart of Azeroth is a necklace that you use to collect azerite which in turn raises the item level and power of the necklace. Azerite armor has many passive abilities that can be unlocked as the Heart of Azerite gains power. None of these powers do anything to changes the way you play.

I don't want to type a book here. The number of cons caused by just the Azerite system alone could fill an entire page. I think one of the biggest is that overall your character is so much less powerful feeling in BfA than in Legion. Despite the leveling zones being gorgeous and the quest pacing feeling brisk enough to not be overly grindy IMO, leveling is not enjoyable because each level you start feeling less and less powerful. If you are looking for an action MMO with a bland reward system, have at it. If you want to play an MMORPG, look elsewhere for now.

    2) Azerite armor, which supposed to fill the emptiness that was created after turning our artifact weapons off, is garbage. It does not fill anything, it is hard to get, its perks are absolutely random and stupid. Overall - today's gearing is the worst in all 14 years we play that game (trust me, i play since 2005).
    3) The idea of the expansion, its selling point were Island expedition and warfronts. Both of these things are a joke. While Islands are ok as a levelling alt tool, warfronts are a stupid AFK scenario with 370 piece of gear reward. It just makes no sense, its ez, stupid, fast and not fun.
    4) dungeons contain way to much trash, its boring to fight. Some affixes are far more difficult than the others which makes you just skip the whole weak of doing certain dungeons (tyrannical in KR, for example).
    5) The whole game now is around gambling. Everything is a lootbox where you might get something, or you might not, maybe it will be good. And thats gambling is in everything: in gear, in cosmetic rewards, in petmount rewards. Everything is random. And we still got no pvp vendors.
    6) Professions are a joke. Skins are cheap af, you wont get any gold on em. While the flasks and pots are extremely expensive and most of the players use flasks and potions FROM THE PREVIOUS EXPANSION!!! That said, blizzard does not decrease the amount of ingredients to craft potions but increases it. It does not make any sense.

Either your projecting, or this is beyond baseless regarding a twitch streamer being the cause for all negative reviews... The reviews appear to be slowly written over 2 months.. that would be one persistent streamer to visit the rating sites long ago, and many viewers that would have visited frequently thereafter. Tinfoil hat much?

As far as positive aspects to this xpac, I personally liked the art (visuals, graphics, and music), and the story. So that's two things.

    warlockdots:
""Its unfortunate that they are being given platforms to express their specific concerns with the game, say how they believe it should be fixed... and instead they just want to jump on the "I hate this game, gamers rise up, lets stick it to Blizzard" hate-wagon, drop a 0 review on every review platform they can find, and then log back into the game and continue to play while they farm Reddit karma and wait for a transmog contest. ""

Mentioned many times in these reviews are the issues that exist, if blizzard felt the need to fix them. If I can find the issues, a team at blizzard better be able to. Here are a few of the problems with this xpac listed below. The specifics of the issues within can be extrapolated further, but they have been reviewed ad nauseam already.

    Azurite power gear issues
    Repetitive World Quests
    Island expeditions
Inability to reroll (similar to legion legendary issues)
    War fronts
    Unfinished classes
    Conquest gearing system
Warmode system (major problem that hasnt been addressed yet, please research this)
    Balance ineptitudes

I would suggest not belittling every review at every website across the net, just because it suits your mental picture.

I ask you warlockdots, is it also a conspiracy that this xpac has the lowest Critic review ratings vs any wow game ever? The Critics probably just obeyed that one streamers demands as well? Too much Tin Foil for me...

Getting a 79 as AAA game from critics is pretty impressive. We all know Critic reviews are inflated :)

(1)Yes, im sure posting to Meta increased due to a streamers visit. However it doesn't explain months of poor reviews (especially before he/she visited), or every site on the net, or the Critics worst wow score ever (trending downward btw).

(2)Your second point, I assumed (incorrectly) you understood this was a widespread phenomenon. If you believe this is Meta only.. ok

(3)I gave a 1 because I think that's what it deserves. My rating of 1 is unrelated to the known inflation of Critic reviews. I know you wish to conflate them, but its best if you don't try that.

(4)You assume I deflated my review? You are incorrect, I think it deserves a 1. The reason you failed with your assumption here is reflected in your own retort. You weighted the problems I listed as 10% of the game? Says who? To me, that could be 100% of the game.. or more importantly, 100% of the additions/content in the expansion from Legion.

(5)If that list carries enough weight TO ME (not you), it could easily justify me rating it to anything, including 0. Its my opinion...

Ive played WoW since Vanilla and have been enjoying Battle for Azeroth so far. Its clear that the negative feedback/frustrations from players last expansion over long patches of content drought was heard by the Devs and they've inserted much more variety of content into this expansion, perhaps maybe TOO many things to do/directions to be pulled, as it seems some of the systems aren't polished and require constant adjustments. I don't doubt these wrinkles will be ironed out as the expansion continues. But the introduction of a variety of Allied Races has been great, I personally cannot wait to play a Zandalari Troll Druid.

Island Expeditions are a creative way to bring old expansion content/mob types into BfA while offering unique pets/toys/transmog set rewards. I hope to see more variety, perhaps special events (large scale PVP or seasonal islands) mixed in. Im neutral on Warfronts atm, I see those more for gearing alts as the expansion continues as most people's main characters are well above the 340 gear that drops.

During legion many players were frustrated that abilities and spells were being removed, we no longer had raid buffs, our classes were slowly creeping towards 3-button rotations. I've been happy to see that slowly being reversed, and spells/buffs being reintroduced back to classes. I hope that trend continues and that player have more variety regarding talents/spec choices, etc. The Azerite system was an interesting concept as a possible fix for the issues players were having with carrying multiple gear sets and being forced to farm certain content for 1 item... but I don't think its a well-received nor successful replacement. Traits are unbalanced and we're still having to carry multiple azerite pieces around for different encounters. Additionally, classes with healing/tank offspecs have to carry around even more pieces as they're seeking out the best traits.

In regards to the zones themselves, the art team has continued to just keep making better and more beautiful zones with each expansion. It was very nostalgic to once again have these expansive and big "main" city with Boralus and Dazar'alor. The music and ambiance is excellent, the variety of creatures and NPCs is refreshing, especially after a legion of puke green fel splattered over literally everything. The dungeons and interior of Uldir is equally as impressive.

    * On a side note about the negative user reviews below- its quite obvious that most of them are viewers of a certain popular WOW streamer on Twitch- not only from the time of the posts (he visited the site on stream), but because most of them are over dramatic, over-generalizations about how EVERYTHING sucks in the game and "OMG BfA is so bad blah blah blah" (but don't really lists specifics, nor can they come up with 1 positive thing about the expansion). I don't believe these streamers want this of their community, these streamers LOVE this game, its a huge part of their life, they want it to work. They want their concerns and voices heard, valued, and their suggestions for improvement taken seriously, in an attempt at hopefully improving some of these issues so more people can continue playing the game.

All the trolling posters, going around spamming 0 reviews on every website is going to do is dilute the reviews/feedback with actual listings of frustrations, issues, concerns, and suggestions- making it even harder for Blizzard to "hear" your concerns.

Edit #1- I didn't mean to imply "every single bad review" as I referenced that the streamer was just currently on the Metacritic site. i know this because I was a viewer in the chat at the time and watched the reviews going up during that time period. On release it was full of bugs and bad class balancing(this has improved but there are still plenty of bugs and weak specs). Azerite traits are boring and uninspired(most of them barely affect gameplay at all while some are clearly superior to others. This can lead to an upgrade actually being a downgrade. They'll fix it eventually, I'm sure. But I thought that was why they have beta testing). At level 120, outside of raiding and mythic plus dungeons, there's nothing interesting to do besides grind reputation and Azerite power(most of my play time at level 120 is spent getting legacy items and achievements. The main quest line is short, the exalted rep rewards are rather stingy, and warfronts barely add anything to the game. I actually miss Suramar). If you really hate yourself, you can run Island Expeditions and maybe you'll get something interesting after 500 runs.

This is a good time to talk about the randomness of BfA. Those sweet, crafted BoP items require an absurd amount of resources to begin with. Then, imagine the pain of going through all that trouble to end up with an item with mastery and versatility(the two most unwanted secondary stats in the game at the moment). There is the option to recover some of the resources required if you scrap the item, but losing all that Expulsom just isn't worth it in my opinion(Again, I'm sure they'll improve this, but why even make such a terrible system in the first place, especially considering there was already a beta to test these systems!) Why even bother going through all the trouble when I could rely on an interesting form of luck like heroic raiding? I can get a free 390 titanforged, if I get lucky of course, by doing content I enjoy.

The only reason I didn't give this a 1 is because I like the visual design of the new continents. Sadly, I don't see them much because I've all but ignored world quests after getting BfA Pathfinder Part 1. There just isn't any point to them besides filling up a green bar.

I've only covered the things that pertain to me, otherwise this review would be a lot longer. There are plenty of other gripes people have, and justifiably so.

"Well, Tom, just unsubscribe if you don't like the game!" I don't want to unsubscribe. I still enjoy the universe and some of the content. My friends play, and I enjoy socializing and doing activities with them.

You can stop reading now, but I have more to add that's mostly unrelated to what I've already covered. Recently, lots of "WoW nostalgia" videos have been popping up in my YouTube feed. Objectively, Vanilla WoW was a pretty crappy game. It was full of all sorts of bizarre, time-consuming design choices and hurdles that amplified the difficulty. However, over time as the game became more modern, most of what made WoW an RPG is gone. It was just more epic in vanilla; it felt more alive(I find server phasing incredibly lame), and the rewards you received felt so much more worthwhile because of those time-consuming and downright insane-at-times design philosophies.

In Vanilla, when I was going to a raid AQ or Ony(attunements were cool, I don't care), I had to fly to Menethil, take a boat to Theramore, take another flight, run through a high level zone, and wait for my 39 other buddies. Yeah it took forever, but it felt like an RPG. I felt like I was doing something.

Now, I can AFK in Stormgarde and get some great piece of loot for literally just waiting around. It's not the WoW I fell in love with. /rant

Upon releasing BFA blizzard admitted that they indeed did not have enough time to balance classes within the game. Many players are now forced to play through the expansion with broken, boring, and incredibly weak characters that require such a high ilevel to compete with other classes who at the end of the day, bring more damage, healing, utility, suitability than the underpowered classes. In order for these classes to compete, they require a higher item level. The problem with this is due to the way the WoW community is, where everyone, even those who aren't completely within the competitive scene know the current meta it becomes increasingly harder to gain ilevel as an underpowered class due to groups of higher end content refusing to work with your class.

It has been 2 months since the release of BFA and most if not all classes who were underpowered to broken within the beginning of the game remain at the same state with blizzard promising to help these classes even though some (marksmanship hunters) have received no indication as to changes in the future.

Beyond that the constant amounts of RNG on top of RNG has made the game not only frustrating but unfun and unrewarding. It is clear with the current game design decisions the goal of bfa was not to create an exciting experience and to refresh world pvp and faction pride, but to test the player base and see how long subscriptions could be pushed with the least amount of content. Class specific raid gear, tier sets, removal of any sort permanent player progression and a complete draining of class skills has left BFA with less and forced players to grind more only with the knowledge that like Legion all your work at the end of the day will be worth nothing due to end game catch up mechanics and removal of the azerite necklace at the end of the expansion.

Legion's game design set up BFA to feel bad when weapons were made to be removed but player were not to retain their benefits in some way. BFA will set up the next expansion in the same way with the removal the azerite necklace leaving the next expansion in a similar place where classes will feel empty and no actual amount of character progression has occurred over the next two years.

World of Warcraft is setting itself up for a dangerous pattern of game design where mistakes are completely erased and not iterated upon and players who play the game for other amounts of content other than raiding in mythic plus will be left with nothing to do in the future due to the lack of iteration upon pvp systems and crafting systems within the game. World of Warcraft is on track for a downward spiral, and only new direction and acceptance of mistakes will help this dev team move forward in a positive direction.

Almost 14 years into its life it continues to be the biggest title in its relatively niche genre. Being a sequel to the Warcraft RPG series world of Warcraft expanded and shed a greater light on the Warcraft universe, character and story involved. What WoW did differently to its predecessors was have customized characters that you could make your own in the huge world.

WoW is a PC exclusive game with intricate yet enjoyable combat mechanics. The game is rewarding to those who put the time into it and are at the peak of skill whilst keeping the game interesting enough for the less skilled or casual players. you start the game as a level one character with race and class of your choosing. You then work your way through a huge amount of different interesting and unique questing zones, travelling to other continents and even other planets, Leveling and increasing your characters power as you go. This part of the game could be considered the most boring part of the game for an experienced player but as a new player it feels fulfilling leveling your character and exploring the corners of the vast World of Warcraft. Once your character reaches maximum level the ‘End Game’ content begins for you and your character. Majority of this content is group based PvP or PvE that has different levels of difficulty, therefore requiring increasing levels of skill and co-ordination as you progress through them. Completing this content rewards you with new and better gear for your character hense increasing its power.

One of world of warcrafts perks is it doesn't require amazing PC specs to run. Its graphics are simplistic and almost cartoony at time but there is detail where needed. However, some of the graphics in the zone created in the early stages of the game can look quite outdated which could off put some players as its where your characters level through initially. Overall the graphics in the game suit the feel and match the mechanics and abilities well.

WoW releases Expansions to the game every 2 years that include a new continent or zones to level your character and raise the level cap of your characters. These expansions add an abundance of new content to the game throughout their life cycles. Within each expansion there are normally 2-4 major patches adding more major content such as new raids and dungeons as well as up to 4 minor patches that add new features and content to the game but in a lesser quantity. Each of these expansions cost upwards of £30 on top of the subscription fee of £10/month. Some find this too expensive for a game and have issue with the fact that it's so much money but to the hardcore player it is worth it for the sheer number of hours of play spent on the game.

The narrative of the warcraft games is well known to be one of the best and most complex and intricate of any game. The shear amount of small intricate stories in each zone mixed in with the greater narrative of the game makes the world really feel alive. There is always something to discover as a new player or a veteran the immense amount of small details and stories are impressive to say the least.

The user interface of world of warcraft is simple and easy for a new player to pick up although can be modified by add-ons or key binds to make things more efficient for the experienced player. There are many addons that can be used on world of warcraft that improve visual aspects or quality of life improvements.

Overall world of warcraft is an extremely versatile game with many aspects to it for many types of player. However, the game does still have elements it could improve on. Many experienced players have been complaining about how simple the gearing system is currently and how receiving items doesn't fell as rewarding as it used to. This is defiantly an issue in my eyes, I feel the game caters slightly to the casual audience in all aspects of the end-game experience and makes it very simple to improve your gear with little skill. Hopefully in the future this can be changed to reward the players at a higher level more in a more suited way.

Another issue is depending on what your style of gameplay is the game can have spells of down time and waiting around that feel very unfun and not rewarding for your time at all. (although most of the content isn't this way)

I would give World of Warcraft a 7.8 out of ten it is a great fantasy MMO that is very inclusive but could be seen as relatively niche in style and gameplay.

I knew going into this game that it would be more of a streamlined, watered down world of warcraft. I really think the best thing that can happen at this point is for new leadership that can bring back the complexity of early days wow and cater to both casuals and veteran hardcore players at least equally. In fact i think legion was better, the class halls were a great addition and concept that was fun. Its really dissapointing because i really want WoW to succeed, it holds a special place in my heart, but its been 3 expansions since ive truly been immersed in this game and i am really losing hope. Literally paid Beta for Azeroth. No new spells, no new abilities, no new talents, killed professions, killed lore. Utter garbage.

A quite well-made expansion, but not without flaws. If they get removed by the creators, the rating will improve. However, you won’t regret buying it. [Issue#290]

Battle for Azeroth offers everything you could expect from a World of Warcraft expansion, but its scale is visibly smaller than Legion’s and there’s no truly new quality here. All that doesn’t change the fact that the charm of this extraordinary MMORPG appeals to me almost as strongly as 13 years ago. [10/2018, p.42]

Blizzard plays it safe, incorporating few innovations while trying to salvage the lore situation of Warcraft due to its constant escalation. Despite all this, BfA remains an entertaining expansion with a lot to offer in endgame for a casual player.
