  • Summary: Become a Space Wrangler and take direct control of creatures called "Voidlings" in this action-packed sci-fi 3rd person shooter.

Shape them through branching evolution paths and upgrade their abilities to overcome bubonic swarms, pestilent bosses, and reclaim lush planets overrun by corruption.

Voidling Bound could be a real sleeper hit for me. I know the gaming lineup in 2027 is extremely stacked right now, but I think this is a fantastic game to jump into for some light challenge, unique sci-fi ideas, and incredible variety. The game controls well, has well-designed and well-realized planets, and features Voidling creatures that are always fun to play. Voidling Bound offers plenty of opportunities to explore fresh RPG mechanics, which I had a fantastic time learning and mastering.

Voidling Bound could use a few quality-of-life improvements, but is otherwise an excellent, fun-to-play, and incredibly unique entry into the creature collector genre. The game has a great setting, an appealing gameplay loop, and a nice message about conservation that manages not to feel preachy or in your face. I highly recommend this title for fans of the genre or those looking for a unique new shooter.

Voidling Bound is a great monster taming game. It offers a plethora of different species, and the ability to experiment as you try to make the best, most powerful monsters you can. Additionally, the gameplay is very good, it’s engaging, and you have access to a wide variety of customization options as well. For me, it felt like a creature collector’s dream, and being able to control those creatures during planetary missions is the cherry on the top. Not everything is perfect, though. Getting resources tends to be a grind a lot of the time, and some of the mission structures are repetitive. However, the game’s mechanics and fun planetary gameplay more than makes up for the grind. It’s an excellent game for anyone who wants to chill out and relax as they put on their scientist hat and experiment to create the perfect creature.

Voidling Bound is an interesting and unique take on the creature collector style, and its stylized focus helps it stand out from the pack. The decision to only have 9 creatures that can branch out makes each one feel significantly different from each other. The evolutionary lines and progression systems feel rewarding and distinct, and some of the areas in the hub help streamline and speed up the process to make the grind feel less obnoxious. The missions can feel a little bit repetitive, and it’s easy to focus on one or two creatures instead of all of them, but that doesn’t take away from how rewarding it feels to make them progressively stronger.

Voidling Bound manages to blend a retro feel with elements of modern game design. The gameplay systems have surprising depth, which isn't really taken advantage of in fairly simplistic combat encounters. It's a game that's highly entertaining for a few hours, but fizzles out after the novelty wears off.

In the end, Voidling Bound presents as a whimsical, extraterrestrial zoo that delivers on quirky fun, but somehow falls short on difficulty, content and the sort of production touches that would truly make this odd world come to life.

Voidling Bound boasts a fantastic premise, blending creature collecting, evolution, breeding, and third-person shooter combat into a uniquely engaging experience that often feels like a mix of Spore, Risk of Rain, and Pokémon. Discovering new evolution paths, collecting parts, and experimenting with gene splicing provides plenty of creative enjoyment, but the game's potential is held back by uneven balance, simplistic combat, and an endgame that lacks meaningful challenge.
