Undertale doesn't impress you the same way most games do. At a first glance, the graphics and pixelated art style can be off putting for some people, the gameplay is unconventional, and it looks like a retro game that should of been released in the 90's. However, after completing it, I had quickly become obsessed with the setting, characters, lore, and soundtrack. Undertale quickly becameUndertale doesn't impress you the same way most games do. However, after completing it, I had quickly become obsessed with the setting, characters, lore, and soundtrack. Undertale quickly became a surprise to me and has then become one of my favourite games. The story is absolutely stunning, presenting players with both hilarious and heartfelt moments with perfect timing. All the characters are lovable, unique, and believable. It's hard to believe I'd have this much fun interacting with 2-D characters, but Undertale proved me wrong. The soundtrack is one of the most iconic I've heard; each track is unique, yet it sticks close to the theme of the game. The setting is full of life, encouraging players to explore the worlds many interesting aspects. Because of its 8-bit style, the graphics are either a hit or miss for people. In my opinion, it fits very well with the game, though it can be unimpressive at times. Because of this, the game may not appeal to everybody. In the end, Undertale is a spectacular indie game that raises the bar in storytelling and proved to me that 8-bit pixelated games are still worth playing today. Expand

    Creative and quirky as hell.

I never played it, but I guess it's okay. It kinda looks like that game minecraft, and I hate mineshaft so, I don't know. Overall, a solid 10/9. Great music.

This is possibly the only 10/10 review I will ever give (because I'm really picky) and I give it to a game that looks as though it crawled out of the 1980s. The characters feel real and the world that they live in draws you in and makes you feel instantly at home. If you are looking for a game that will touch your heart and probably make you cry this is it.

The strengths of this game include the writing, characters, story, and all the quirky easter eggs that the player can discover through searching. No two playthroughs are exactly alike and your choices really matter. I won't give away too much, but be careful what you say and do because your actions have consequences. ;)

This game prides itself on breaking the violent mold of traditional RPGs where the main character leaves a trail of monster corpses in their wake. It is about mercy, love, forgiveness and bravery. The gameplay is pretty fun and the soundtrack is amazing. This is a purchase you will not regret. I give it my own personal seal of profound worth.

I know some people will think I am riding the hype train with this game. But I went in blind. The only reference to the game I had was my ex who was preaching about how cool the game looked. The only reference to the game I had was my ex who was preaching about how cool the game looked. So one Steam sale I purchased it and played through it, and oh my goodness I am glad I did. There is a lot of content for such a short game, and a lot of secrets which are still being found to this day. The story is beautiful and simple. The soundtrack is fitting yet amazing. The idea of a morality choice based on the player’s actions isn’t a new concept. It had me thinking of Silent Hill 2 with its subtle morality choice just to get an ending to the game. However knowing that our choices matter is what makes a game more immersive. However this game has drawn a colorful cult following. Which is why I usually dislike communities, they tend to ruin the experience. But I digress; this game is amazing.
For $10 you get roughly four hours of gameplay if you don’t know where you’re going. If you do it’s shorter. The game messes with you in a way that it manipulated the save engine so that it will have you thinking something is wrong. The best way I can explain that is this; think about Eternal Darkness with its sanity meter. As it goes down strange things start to happen which confuses and freaks out the player. Toby Fox used this to his advantage. As for gameplay, it looks like a typical RPG however you have the ability to doge enemy attacks like a bullet hell shooter. You can spare or kill your enemies, attack or talk. It’s your choice. However the morality system is over hyped in this game. But it is an Indie game. So any high expectations are ludicrous at best.

I will not ruin the story, but it is a sad yet cute one. It had my heart feeling a tad bit weak. Then I played LISA which killed my heart. So this is the light story compared to the depressing stories of RPG’s. You’ll meet a cast of loving and goofy characters. Make a ton of friends, and will have to play the game more than once to get certain endings. That’s about the only complaint I have. If you want a complete pacifist run you have to play the game twice. Sure it increases the replay value, only because you force the players to do it again.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a game that is good for kids, cute, or just overall a time killer. I highly recommend this game. It’s not as well hyped as people make it, but it does deserve some of the praise it receives.

    Happy Gaming!

One of the funniest, goofiest, and greatest games I ever played on Steam in a lifetime. Even if you don't care about Earthbound (which this game is a tribute to btw) very much, I guarantee you'll have so much fun with Undertale.

Undertale is a great game, possibly the best one I've ever played, it brings the feel of playing Earthbound (as the creator intended) with it's graphics and out of the ordinary story, it makes you feel part of the game, not by making you feel as the main protagonist, but by acknowledging that you are playing the game, it has an incredible soundtrack that matches with the awkward moments,Undertale is a great game, possibly the best one I've ever played, it brings the feel of playing Earthbound (as the creator intended) with it's graphics and out of the ordinary story, it makes you feel part of the game, not by making you feel as the main protagonist, but by acknowledging that you are playing the game, it has an incredible soundtrack that matches with the awkward moments, the relaxing moments, the WTF moments and the epic moments (either in a fight or when listening to Sans dialogue), it also comer with music that makes you feel weird and in suspense when the game wants you to feel that way, all of these things apply to the art style of the game, also the characters are very unique and fun to be with, with every one having a song and font that matches their personality and emotions, couple that with an awesome story that centers about solving things peacefully, awards you for your good doings and has actual consequences for your actions, a bunch of fourth wall-breakers, awesome puns ;D, a lot of Easter eggs and things to theorize about and an immersive experience, only requiring very little money and time and you've got a masterpiece as this is. It is a clever and gimmicky anti-genre game. The game is often overrated for its overall quality. However, for younger audiences, the humorous dialogue and characters can be very attractive. The gimmicky mechanics can also be "deep and rewarding" for some players.

After finishing chapter one of Deltarune, I thought to jump back on to my old favorite for a while [Undertale]. Regret soon followed. Sans is very annoying and not creative in his puns, and I love dad joke puns like the ones Sans is known for and reading them they didn't make me laugh or cringe, they made me angry because they are constant and doesn't provide any detail. The story is boring, and the three routs [Neutral, Peaceful, Genocide] are creative sure but like, who cares? This game lost its appeal on me after playing actually good games with story that dragged me in. Undertale is simply a garbage game, with a weak story, with at best semi-likable characters, and in total just okay music and bad graphics. I love pixel graphics, don't get me wrong. I love pixelation over 3 dimensional figures. [Insert Japanese porn joke here]. But the issue is that the graphics are dull, overly smooth in most areas, too bright and colorful, it hurts to look at this game sometimes. Undynes house is one of those too colorful ones, so is the lab [TOO MUCH YELLOW/LIGHT BLUE MIX.] Sometimes [for example sans secret room] it is just not that great or rewarding. Photoshop Flowey [or Omega Flowey] doesn't fit in, it sure is fun to battle him [more on the battles later] but his graphics are so badly put together [like real photoshops [this was a joke, laugh]] that it took away from the game. It was fine on its own but the graphics Flowey has here are so bad that it was not worth it anymore. The characters were tiring to deal with. Toriel is annoying and over caring [which i know is her character but like, I don't feel bad for killing her anymore]. Sans is annoying with his puns, Papyrus is also very annoying to read because of the **** way he talks, Undyne is meh, Alphys makes my head hurt when I talk to her, Mettaton [In all forms including Ex, Neo, Overworld] just no. Flowey is an awful villain, should have killed us one shot if they were trying. Asgore literally doesn't live long enough to like or hate him,

So I should talk about the one good thing, the thing that makes it a 4.
The battle system. That saves this game from a 0. I would just not be writing this review on this garbage game and hope it just ceases to exist soon except the battle system is genius. If you read/heard reviews of Undertale you will know this is the games strong point that most people love. It is easy yet difficult, creative, and just overall makes this game almost mediocre on its own. If you do plan on playing Undertale and you haven't yet, ignore the story and jump right into battle, it really is what makes the game actually somewhat worth while.

    b) The are 3 endings. Each play through last 6 hours and they are EXACTLY THE SAME. Only the final 10-15 minutes change. If you replay the game, you will fast forward everything because it is the same, every last single thing.
    c) Music is EXCELLENT.

In conclusion, it is a charming and short $5 made by one guy. It is very basic, but quite creative. Let me be clear though, this thing is not as amazing as some weird fans are making it to be. Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, Celeste TRUMP this game. Sonic Mania Plus for $20 is 10/10/ I cannot emphasize this enough, Undertale is a nice $5 game.

With multiple endings based on how you choose to play out your run, set pieces that can play out very differently based on your actions and so many incredible moments that we’d love to share but daren’t do so for risk of spoiling anything, Undertale is easily one of the indie standouts of last year.

Through a combination of often relaxed but sometimes tense gameplay, a dreamy atmosphere, and genuine characters that feel like they’re actually alive and all living together in this isolated society of longing, Undertale transcends its medium and becomes a genuinely moving experience I would recommend to anyone who is open to a sometimes sorrowful, sometimes hilarious, always bizarre and engaging emotional journey.
