    Tower of time is one of those games that does a lot of things well, doesn't do anything poorly, but unfortunately has a few things that are just average or don't fit the style of the game.

    Both in terms of storytelling, as well as gameplay, Tower of Time sits right there in the middle of the quality scale. A handful of interesting ideas do exist, and, as a whole, this isn't bad or broken, but, from the first to the fortieth hour, nothing in this dungeon crawling RPG will turn out to be exciting, either.

    This is a huge, deeply developed, beautifully crafted RPG, novel in all the right ways, and it’s not even finished.

I was not sure I would enjoy the game, but with no other new alternatives on the market right now, I decided to buy it on a whim. I am so glad I did.

    The story might start typical - post-apocalyptic world (though we do not know what has happened in the beginning) in a fantasy setting. As you play along you discover the bits and pieces of the past told via animated videos and various pieces of history contained in the books and notes scattered around. There are a lot of surprising twists and the story changes over time into something that I think no one would expect. I usually got bored very quickly with recent RPGs, here, I remained hooked until the end.

    Combat is a very fresh. The best comparison would be to Dragon Age Origins I think. It is played in real-time with slow motion or pause and has a surprising tactical depth. Your skills and equipment are equally important here to how you play your champions - where you position them and how you move them around. I started on normal difficulty and it was fine so I decided to change to hard - which was brutal. There is one other setting in the game called Epic - but it was too difficult for me.

    Having said that, this game is not for everyone - it is smart and requires some thinking about your choices and party builds. If you want to try something refreshing for a change, grab it - and you will be as surprised at the value it offers, as I was.    … Full Review »

    A fresh take on tactical real time with pause/slow-mo
    A non-grid/hex tactics game
    A story that’s both not so involved it gets in the way but is creative enough to stay interesting
    Polish and completeness of a AAA game from a new indie company at an indie price
    The developers care
    Despite being relatively linear, playthroughs can be very different
    Has a set of optional challenge scenarios that can push a player beyond the scope of the normal play through
    East to learn, hard to master

    Cons-
    Not overly difficult on normal or easier settings
    Some trope “gamey” concepts, but then again you can’t change everything on your first try

    Its a tactical RPG that uses slow time during combat to allow for player response. I believe it can also pause but I never had to do that. The way encounters work is you have to run into them in the normal view and then you are basically teleported to a MOBA-style level where combat takes place. Combat is actually pretty fun. You have 4 characters active at a time and you choose from 7 people of differing classes with their own unique abilities. You can reassign skill points at will (like Diablo 3) and you assign stat points like many other RPG's. You get to choose up to 4 active skills at a time and you use those in battle. Nothing unique but and it plays alot like a DOTA or LoL. I think that combat is fine compared to console RPG's but is pretty boring compared to PC RPGs like Baldurs Gate or open world RPG's like Skyrim. A lot of people complain that Skyrim is a dumbed down Oblivion which is a dumbed down Morrowing (I am one of those people) but even Skyrim is leagues more advanced in terms of skills/spells, gear and general customizing your character. Again, this is about as deep as a MOBA in terms of character options.

    The bad in this game is exploration. It a total bore. All you do is run around and click something to see a wall of text about something you are not particularly interested in.

    The story is simply that your leader is compelled to explore a tower... thats it. You uncover the world history as you do so and frankly... I just didnt care. Characters do not have their own stories, they simply show up and join you. They may have some backstory but rather than letting you RPG the story, its basically compulsory and very linear. Perhaps this is why I did not care. We all know how the game will end from minute 1, so reading all the text on the way down feels unnecessary. In an open world style RPG, you usually impact the story. The main plot may not change much, but you can change the story of your companions and what happens to other NPC's depending on your actions. In this game, there does not seem to be any impact aside from not getting an extra 300 gold or a useless item.

    Again, this is not a bad game. Combat is ok but dont buy this looking for a deep RPG story. Its linear like traditional jRPG's. But as a 1st iteration, its actually pretty good. I hope to see more from this company in the future.    … Full Review »
