Tiny Terry is concise yet vast, comically snarky yet endearingly heartfelt… it has to be seen to be believed, and it’s everything I didn’t know I wanted, in the best way possible. So, for anyone needing a mental vacation and a few hours spent not worrying about the world? This is the ticket.

Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip is a hilarious journey with platforming, driving, puzzles, and laughs aplenty. While it may not last long, it is definitely a turbo trip you won't regret taking!

Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip is equal parts derpy and adorable (aderpable?), delivering a steady dose of randomness and coziness over the course of its roughly three-hour playtime. Still, if the charm’s swayed you over, there’s a healthy amount of collectibles to add a couple more hours in. I’ll admit the humor was hit-or-miss, and sometimes the characters didn’t feel all that noteworthy, but chances are the ability to screw around to your heart’s content with no penalties or deaths in this short but sweet sandbox are the real fun to be had. After all, when an NPC flails about when punted with a wrench, it’s awfully hard not to laugh.

Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip almost feels like a proof of concept for a larger game pitch that's yet to be announced. But apart from suffering from some repetitive strain injury in the late game due to its small nature, it comes largely otherwise without fault. It does capture somewhat of that PS2 feeling with a mix of 90s Nickelodeon cartoon, with a game world and art style perfectly realised for what it tries to be. Although it would be somewhere you could happily spend more time in if it were expanded, it's also easy to advocate for more smaller, fun experiences, and in a time when glut is a real issue, Terry does exactly that. It's a great title to introduce youngsters to, who might be inspired by the quirky and unique style, as it doesn't really look like anything else on the market. Short and sweet, as they say.

All I can really say about Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip is that for the few hours I spent with it nothing else mattered. I wandered around sometimes focusing on exploration, sometimes switching up and concentrating on furthering the upgrade of the taxi. I chuckled a lot, I explored because I wanted to see and collect as much as possible, and it felt like a nice detour. It was a pleasant diversion in my gaming this week, where I didn’t have to fight big monsters or sit through extended cutscenes. All I had to do was live in the moment, mooching around this bright, colourful and wonky town that constantly delivered humour. I can’t recommend it enough.

There are so many games in the zeitgeist that focus on offering the most realistic or the most refined and polished experience on the market, but often this can be to the detriment of fun. Tiny Terry's Turbo Trip knows this all too well, focusing solely on bringing the fun factor. It's a love letter to successful mascot platformers of old while offering some much-needed fan service to the kid-friendly GTA-clone sub-genre that gave us The Simpsons Hit and Run and Lego City Undercover. It's not a game that's going to change your life, but it's a wonderful, action-packed romp that just might make a lazy afternoon a little more memorable.
