graphic downgrade is inevitable for the sake of platform parity, so i won't hold it against cdp , their hands are tied, the game actually lives up to the hype, a must have for rpg fans, my only complain is that the game crashes every 1-2 hours, it's really getting on my nerve,my understanding is many ppl are experiencing the same problem.

The Witcher. How do I go about reviewing this. There are a lot things to consider. First of all that the company that made it is incredibly small team, think about that for a moment, a game with a tenth of the crew of GTA V managed to be this good.

The Witcher. How do I go about reviewing this. There are a lot things to consider. First of all that the company that made it is incredibly small team, think about that for a moment, a game with a tenth of the crew of GTA V managed to be this good.

The Witcher 3 is massive. Possibly THE largest open world game to date and it is filled from top to bottom with content. Every side quest is fully voiced and at times even bleed into the main story. These are the best sidequests I have ever seen. That's difinitive. The best.

-Characters from previous games make their appearences here with choices from previous games making large changes to the world. If you haven't played the previous games then don't worry the story is surprisingly easy to get into. The Story is great so I'm not going to spoil any of it for whoever goes and buys this game. It must be said that it is the highlight of the game though.

Graphics despite having a large downgrade for console performance are still very good. You know that when there's an option to have every hair in the world have advanced physics no expense was spared. But if you were planning on having max settings this I will have to dissapoint you. Even with a powerfull PC I could still not get above 50fps on the lowest settings.

-Gameplay is notably less clunky then in previous games but I think it should be reviewed on its own. It is still clunky. When playing the secondary character you will understand that this was intentional. The character is an old man of 100 something years. Even so I would have still enjoyed a much more fluid movement.

    Cons:
-The horse. This may seem stupid but the horse is extremely important to get you places so it should have been mostly bug free and such. No. It is by far the buggiest and worst AI in the whole game. In a game with excellent AI the horse stands out as a wet piece of excrement in an otherwise almost flawless system.

-There are also a host of bugs throughout the game that are almost inherent to the open world genre. Being Cdprojecktreds first venture into open world with such a small team makes this a bitter pill to swallow but still exceptable.

    -Load times, nuff said

That's it. No really my only problems with the game are the horse, the load time and the bugs (which knowing CDprokekt will get patched). In a game this expansive if that doesn't tell you something then you might need help.

Final verdict. 10 out of 10
My problems with this game were few and far between and it is well worth your time and money. There are a host of things I didn't mention in this review because it is already extremely long but rest assured that they are all positive. This coupled with CDprojekts' policy of free DLC (yes you can have your horse armor and keep it too) The game soon will be worth this rating. but as of yet with many bugs unfixed it is still a 9.5. By the time of the enhanced edition (which will probably be free) release I'm sure that if I could I would be handing out an 11 out of ten.
So Whaddya waiting for. Go buy this game. Now.

AMAZING visuals along with a seamless world that makes you feel like you've actually traveled back in time is a win situation in my books. The in depth crafting systems for both Alchemy, and Blacksmithing(Armor/Weapons) makes you want to explore what can be made and really brings out the depth of the world with the sheer amount of items availble. It truly is a paradise for RPG lovers anywhere. If you have liked pass tittles such as Oblivion/Skyrim, or Dragon Age Origins as much as I have, then do yourself a favor and don't miss out on this one. A special shout out to the developers of this wonderful game with their free DLC practices and going back to the way things should with a solid, full length, non-expensive expansion pack that is going to be worth every nickel. Fingers crossed that other developers follow suit with them. I know I will be supporting them through thick and thin. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If someone is wondering whether they should get the game or not, the answer is definitely yes! The game does so much right. By no means is it perfect but seeing as this really is the new milestone for rpg's, I couldn't justify giving this game any less than a 10. Strictly speaking, I would give the game at its current state a 9.5, but we'll round it up.

    Pros:
+ Gorgeous, MASSIVE world. It just is so beautiful and masterfully crafted. No matter where you go, you can always find something interesting. The landscapes are phenomenal and immersive. The world is also full of interesting monsters and other npc's.
+ Story and storytelling. You've probably heard that this time around the story is a personal one. And that is completely true. It really grips you and makes you feel for the characters and want to see what's going to happen next.
+ Characters. Probably the biggest thing that sets this game apart from all the other RPG's. The characters are so well done. They all have interesting, genuine personalities and the voice acting is just perfect. The dialogues feel so real and you can really see, and feel, what the characters are feeling.
+ Decision making is the best that any RPG has seen. Not only can you see the effects of your decisions in the world, there isn't always a clear line of right or wrong. You don't usually get judged right away for your decisions and you can't always know the consequences beforehand.
+ Side quests are FINALLY worthwhile. In fact, some side quests even feel like a part of the main quest. In some ways they are, since they do affect the main quest. But all the characters, lore and dialogues make you immersed in the game like no other and there's quite a bit of variety in the quests.
+ Soundtrack. Not much to be said here, the soundtrack just is extremely fitting and at times beautiful.
+ Graphics. Yes, you read right. Despite all the downgrade fuss, the graphics are phenomenal. Sure, a slight downgrade has happened, but after some patches that improve the graphics a bit, I can not honestly see how someone would say that the graphics are not good.
+ Tons of interesting loot to be found everywhere.
    + 16 free dlc's (tho minor ones).
    + Fast patches.

Since I'm not big on crafting stuff, I'm just going to say that alchemy and crafting has been made well and I found no issues with them.

    Cons:
    - Combat is a bit unresponsive and floaty. The problem could be with the controls, which by the way are a bit sloppy too, but I think they should have made the combat more like in Bloodborne. It's just so smooth and rewarding and you can really feel the hit of your blows in that game. Now don't get me wrong, the combat is not bad at all, it's good in fact, but I feel like there's improvements to be made.
    - Lack of spells/character development. The skill system is pretty good, but it lacks depth. It feels too restrictive. There should be more variations to the signs, more interesting skills (many skills are just passive buffs to your abilities) and quite frankly, you should be able to select more skills on your active skills bars.
    - Bugs. No surprises here. In a game this huge, there was bound to be bugs. Luckily, there aren't too many and they aren't game-breaking, or even too distracting.
    - Short viewing distance. The world and graphics are beautiful and the landscapes as well, but unfortunately the landscape gets blurred and foggy too fast.
    *MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD*
    - Honestly, this is the thing that bugs me the most. After beating the game, the game reverts back to before playing the final chapter and the main quest vanishes. This means that all the things you do during the final chapter won't have any effect on the world at all. What's more, almost all the main characters disappear from the world. Needless to say, this is SO immersion breaking. What were the devs thinking? The game is otherwise so well done and then they just pull you out of the immersion and make the world feel so hollow.
    *SPOILERS END*

    Conclusion:
All in all the pros really outweigh the cons. As for the last con, I'm really hoping that the devs release a patch or dlc SOON that will fix this problem. It seems likely, since others have complained about it too. Despite that, all I can say is: BUY THE GAME and support the awesome devs for making this game and respecting us gamers. You won't regret it.

I laughed, I cried, and I loved every moment. My first run was 68 hours and I felt like I only got through a portion of the content. This is one of the best games ever made, period.

Why, you may ask? First off, the writing. It is exceptional. There's one scene where I laughed for a solid 20 minutes. I would never have expected such consistent, witty, engaging dialogue from a game.

    Why, you may ask?

First off, the writing. It is exceptional. There's one scene where I laughed for a solid 20 minutes. I would never have expected such consistent, witty, engaging dialogue from a game.

Second, the sound design. Exceptional music and solid voice work throughout.

Third, the world, quest and monster design. In such a massive game, repetitive witcher contracts and dull quests could have easily been the norm...but there wasn't a single monster contract that wasn't different, and there wasn't a single quest without a new and engaging story! It is easy to get lost in this world. Completionists will likely go grey before coming close to the end.

Fourth, the art design. I played this game on medium settings, and everything was beautiful.

The game isn't perfect. The biggest weakness is clunky control programming. There are plenty of times when character control is less than fluid. But this is a minor annoyance in such a polished, riveting game world.

    An extraordinary game. Thank you!

The graphics were insane and the RPG elements were groundbreaking. Then came Witcher 2. I saw the game for $20 on release at a discount store that I'll not name and thought "what the heck" and purchased it. The Witcher 2 turned out to completely shatter my opinions of RPGs of the past. I played the BG series, the Dragon Age games (at the time DA2 had been released several months earlier), final fantasy games and Neverwinter Nights. Witcher 2 absolutely demolished all of them. Up until The Witcher 3, I found the Witcher 2 to be the greatest of all time. Then came Witcher 3. I have to admit I enjoyed Witcher 2's story slightly more but I still think Witcher 3 had a phenomenal story. The game has so many twists and turns and your decisions will affect the outcome. I've seen a few people complaining about being forced to use an xbox controller. I don't understand the problem with this. There are several games that command the use of a controller including Assassin's Creed games. This is a non issue for me. I've heard of a few people complaining about the control over Geralt and again, it's not an issue for me. Because some people complained about the controls, CDPR released an alternate type of control. Hopefully this satisfies those who do not like the original controls. The graphics on PC are probably the best I've ever seen in a game. Seriously. Nothings comes close. Considering this is an open world game and it runs without shudder at 4k resolution with Hairworks cranked up on a PC with a 4 year old processor and motherboard makes that all the more impressive. Again, I found the story in Witcher 2 to be slightly better but that is not a slight. I would not debate on which had a better story through because they both had their strongpoints. This game is a mature game. It does not deviate much from the books so if you're looking for a liberal utopia like Dragon Age 1, 2 or 3 then this is not your game. It doesn't care about your views but it will force you to make some moral decisions. You will not be a hero. This game does not inform you on which decision is the better decision because almost all decisions offer a positive or negative or maybe a few of both. The game does not insult your time by jamming fetch quests down your throat. The closest thing to fetch quests is the witcher armor missions, the guarded treasure, and the treasures that can be found by investigating the sea floor and surface alike. However, if you don't want to get the stuff, you do not have to. I've heard some people say that the side quests offer more of a story than the main story quests. This is probably the first time I've enjoyed a game with this much meat. I put well over 100 hours into the game and I gotta say, I loved every minute of it. Expand

It is not surprising it won numerous awards including Game of the Year for 2015. I would recommend playing the previous games (Yes even the first Witcher) to fully get the experience of the story.

Story: Geralt is back at it again. Only this time looking even better and can grow a beard. Now equipped with his memory restored you are tasked with finding the child of prophecy. Easy right? Think again. You get to explore 3 beautiful lands that have hidden treasures and plenty of monsters to slay. Inn to Inn squeezing every last coin from a Witcher contract, you find that you are not the only one trying to find this child of prophecy.
Just when you think there is enough on your plate, comes the romance triangle from hell. God be with you.

Gameplay: A HUGE improvement from the Assassin of Kings. The Wild Hunt finally got the combat correct. The moves felt smooth, using the signs were actually rewarding. You could use Igni to send the enemy up in flames without the huge penalty of death (Witcher 2).
They also made the potion aspect of the Witcher profession very enjoyable and highly rewarding. You make the item once and it stays in your inventory, when you meditate you use heavy booze to replenish the charges of said items. Collecting all the oils, potions, and elixirs gave you the edge in battle that it was supposed to.

Oh. Gwent. The love that is Gwent. They scrapped the previous little mini games from the last games and gave us something that could be its own game. I spent hours searching for gwent cards and people to destroy with my Nilf deck. Hopefully they look to make it a stand alone title in the future.

Bugs/Glitches: Only a few to mention that stood out. Sometimes I would get a hangup in the audio, For example I would be underwater and when I resurface it still sounds like I'm underwater and cant hear properly. It would only clear after I jumped on to my boat and jumped once or twice. Another issue with water; While exploring in Skellige oceans I would get stuck and not be able to perform the dive action. I checked and made sure it wasn't just my game controller, both the keyboard and game controller wouldn't dive. Only thing to fix it would be to save the game and reload the game.
Towards the end of the game the audio for hitting with my sword seemed to disappear also. Would only hear it after the 3-4 strike on a person. The damage of course still applied, just the sound was missing.

    Positives:
+ Huge maps with ton to explore
    +Armor sets
    +Timed choices

    Negatives:
    -You can end up alone
    -Roach
    -Dandelion

Knowing Cd Projekt RED, I was certain that I would experience a improved witcher game compared with the previous one. I was greatly mistaken. Not only I played an outstanding game, much better than its successors, but I also played one of the best games on my entire life.

Despite the graphics controversy, the world of The Witcher 3 is beautiful and astonishing. It's possible to stand hours just looking at the horizon and watch the sun and moon cycles. The people, villages, animals, monsters are all alive. Not just waiting for you to kill them and gain XP. Wolves hunt, people do their daily chores, bandits try to find an easy victim, monster lurk and hunt the countryside. And the music and soundtrack bring a very emotional touch to all that.

The story is also one of its greatests achievements. From a simple treasure hunt to a big main quest, the story is never boring, short or uninteresting. Its all very integrated. On a treasure hunt you may discover how a fisher lost a package on a river or how some deserters were prowling and stealing from refugees. The sidequests and monster hunts brings amazing stories about betrayal, love, dark rituals and the war and its effects on common people. The main quest brings a race against time to find someone very important to the Witcher. With many troubles on the way, of course.

The gameplay, although not so easy to master and rather clunky (and bug) sometimes, is a very good improvement over the older Witcher games, creating a very strategic, fast and fun combat (specially on the highest difficult).

At launch the game had many bug problems but the majority are resolved with the patches released by CD RED. And 16 free DLCs were released, with new gear, quests, skins and a New+ mode.

Thereafterr, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a must buy. The beautiful visuals, lovelly music, heartbreaking stories and quests and its fun exploration and gameplay are a mark in the gaming industry. And, definitly, a true and sound ending to the franchise.

This game is amazing. Wild Hunt is the best RPG game of the year. Combat is fast and fun. Alchemy and crafting is great. Soundtracks are beautiful. In my opinion i didn't play any game like this in years. Skyrim is always the best for me but Witcher is the second best.

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
